Growing skull fracture (GSF) is a rare complication of pediatric head trauma. It usually arises from a linear fracture with an underlying dural tear, which results in herniation of the intracranial contents. In rare cases, the herniated intracranial contents can be restricted in the diploe, resulting in an expanded diploic cavity. If there is brain parenchyma herniating into the expanded diploic cavity, the condition is termed as intradiploic encephalocele (IE). Here we present a peculiar pediatric occipital GSF case that resulted from the silent progression of a linear fracture with a small brain herniation into the widened fracture finally leading to an IE after approximately 7 years. Detailed imaging findings from the early injury to the late phase of the disease were provided to record this natural process. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case providing the imaging data of early injury before developing into IE.Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common degenerative disease affecting joints with an increasing prevalence around the world and in the Middle East region. Research about the prevalence/incidence of OA in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries was limited with inconsistent findings. Therefore, the aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis for studies reporting the prevalence/incidence of OA among people living in the GCC countries. A comprehensive search was performed using MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Google Scholar from inception to December 2020 to identify eligible studies examining the prevalence/incidence of OA in the GCC countries. Meta-analysis was conducted, and the Newcastle Ottawa Quality Assessment Tool for Observational Cohort and Cross-Sectional Studies was utilized to evaluate methodological quality. Thirteen studies were included (12 studies reported prevalence and one study reported incidence), with a total of 24,625 participants with an estimated overall prevalence of 16.13% and incidence of 3.5% of OA in the GCC countries. The quality of the included studies was unsatisfactory (six studies), satisfactory (six studies), and good quality (one study). Common risk factors were being older adult, female, obese, and having lower scores for quality of life. This study shows a high prevalence of OA among individuals living in the GCC countries at approximately 16.13%. Only one study reported incidence of 3.5% of OA in this population. This prevalence rate needs to be confirmed in future research with a similar population and at the site of joint OA levels. Common risk factors should be interpreted with caution since only a few studies reported risk factors. Key Points • The pooled prevalence of Osteoarthritis in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries was 16.13% based on 12 included studies.
This randomized phase II trial compared tegafur-uracil/leucovorin (UFT/LV) plus oxaliplatin (TEGAFOX) to UFT/LV as adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with high-risk stage II/III colorectal cancer.
From 2010 to April 2015, 159 patients who underwent curative resection were randomly assigned to receive TEGAFOX (85 mg/m
oxaliplatin on days 1 and 15, 300 mg/m
/day UFT and 75 mg/day LV on days 1-28, every 35 days for five cycles) or UFT/LV. The primary study endpoint was disease-free survival.
The 3-year disease-free survival rate was 84.2% in the TEGAFOX arm, versus 62.1% for UFT/LV. The stratified hazard ratio for disease-free survival for TEGAFOX compared to UFT/LV was 0.338 (P < 0.01). The incidence of any-grade adverse events was significantly higher in the TEGAFOX arm (96.1%) than in the UFT/LV arm (76.6%; P < 0.01). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/telotristat-etiprate-lx-1606-hippurate.html The rates of any-grade neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase elevation, and peripheral sensory neuropathy were higher in the TEGAFOX group, whereas the incidence of grade ≥ 3 adverse events did not differ between the groups.
TEGAFOX is an additional adjuvant chemotherapy option for high-risk stage II/III colorectal cancer.

Sildenafil and tadalafil, a type-5 phosphodiesterase inhibitor, can improve flap viability, however, the action mechanisms involved in this process are still unclear. To assess the effects of orally administered sildenafil and tadalafil on the healing kinetics and skin flap viability, sixty-two Wistar rats were divided into three groups control (n = 22), sildenafil (n = 20), and tadalafil (n = 20). The solutions were administered orally (dose 10 mg/kg) immediately after the surgical procedure and then every 24 h. At postoperative days 7 and 14, the skin flap samples were collected, submitted to histological processing and evaluated under optical microscopy. In experimental groups (sildenafil and tadalafil), we found an increased vascularization (p less then 0.05) on the 7th and 14th day associated with the ulcer size decrease on the 14th day, although it was not significant. There was a higher influx of neutrophils and a decrease of mononuclear population on the 7th day (p less then 0.05). On the 14th day, these differences were observed only in the tadalafil group (p less then 0.05). This study suggested positive results with the use of sildenafil and tadalafil as adjuvant drugs in skin flap viability.Osteoporosis is a systemic metabolic disease defined by a decreased bone mineral density, microarchitectural deterioration, and an increased incidence of fragility fractures that may lead to morbidity and mortality. Boron may stimulate new bone formation and regeneration, when combined with nano-hydroxyapatite. We questioned whether injecting boron-containing nano-hydroxyapatite composites with hyaluronan increased the bone mineral density and new bone formation in osteoporotic rabbit femurs. The regenerative effects of injectable boron-containing nano-hydroxyapatite composites from 6 to 12 weeks, which may prevent osteoporotic femoral fractures, were assessed. Boron-containing (10 μg/ml) nano-hydroxyapatite composites were injected into the intramedullary femoral cavity with hyaluronan. These significantly increased the histomorphometric new bone surface to the total bone surface ratio at 6 and 9 weeks. The micro-tomographic bone volume to the total volume ratio and bone mineral density in osteoporotic rabbit femurs increased when compared to the hyaluronan (p = 0.
