The use of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and chemometrics thus offers a rapid and objective approach to discriminating automotive tints for forensic purposes.Introduction Autoerotic deaths are rare events. The death scene is often bizarre and the death unexpected, thus often requiring forensic autopsies. Our analysis will provide an overview of the expected range of causes and manners of death in cases of autoerotic deaths. Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out on all scientific and forensic autopsies and postmortem examinations performed at the Department of Legal Medicine in Hamburg, Germany, over the period of 2004-2018. Results 25 cases of autoerotic fatalities were identified over this 15-year-period or one to two cases per year, respectively. Autopsies were carried out on 23 of these cases. 16 (64%) of the cases involved autoerotic accidents and 7 (28%) from internal causes of death during an autoerotic act. Two cases had not undergone an autopsy. On average, those who were involved in autoerotic accidents had been younger in age (average age 37 years) than the individuals who died from internal disease (average age 61 years). Only one woman was involved. The most common cause of death in autoerotic accidents was strangulation (hanging 8 cases, ligature strangulation 1 case), followed by smothering of the respiratory tract (4 cases). Fatal intoxication was diagnosed in three of the cases. Fatalities with natural cause of death solely involved cardiovascular causes of death. Conclusions Autoerotic deaths involved a wide range of natural and non-natural causes of death. The reconstruction of such unusual cases and detection of non-natural fatalities requires thorough investigation of the scene of death as well as a postmortem external and internal examination including a chemical toxicological and blood alcohol analysis.This study attempts to identify the influence of various aspects of human activities in three medium-sized Central European cities (Cottbus, Germany; Nitra, Slovakia and Słupsk, Poland) on air contamination. Nine elements Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Ni, Cd, Cr, Pb and S were determined using microwave plasma atomic emission spectrometry, flame atomic absorption spectrometry and elementary analyzer. Results of the study showed significant differences between the cities in term of elements content in pine bark. The differences reflected well specific character of the cities and various effects of human activity. Study revealed that elements spatial variability among the cities is driven by the factor loadings character and reflects various emission sources and their impact range.Environmental exposure to melamine has been associated with early renal injury in urolithiasis patients even when urinary concentrations of melamine are low. The aim of this study was to derive a benchmark dose (BMD) for melamine for urolithiasis patients. To do this, one-spot urine sample from 309 participants was obtained to measure urinary melamine and N-acetyl β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG), an early renal damage biomarker. The participants were then classified into four exposure groups based on the outcomes of melamine tableware usage questionnaire. A beta distribution of urinary excretion fraction for each group was assumed to estimate their average daily intakes (AvDIs) of melamine. The BMD and the corresponding one-sided 95% lower bound (BMDL) was then derived based on Bayesian model averaging of alternative regression models between the participants' NAG levels and their estimated AvDIs, adjusting for age, gender, and other covariates. Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo simulations were used for all the estimates. Methods We conducted a modified Delphi study, including experts in the field of shoulder, strength training and handball. In the first round, the experts were asked to rate eight pre-defined shoulder ER exercises on efficacy and adherence and to suggest other preferred exercises. In round two, they were asked to rate the new exercises from round one. In round three, they received a statistical summary of the panels scores, their own score and a summary of the suggestions. Based on the feedback, the experts were asked to revise their response. Results Sixteen experts completed three rounds with 100% response rate. Twenty-eight exercises were rated. We reached consensus for both efficacy and adherence for two exercises, ER in 90° abduction in a ****-over squat position and ER in 90° abduction combined with horizontal abduction and trunk rotation in a push-up position. Methods We selected 636 patients from a single-center cohort with early stage hormone receptor-negative ** and under the age of 50 years when treated with chemotherapy. Sufficient data on course of menstruation in medical records was retrospectively found for 397 patients, of whom 299 patients (75%) had a recovery of menstruation after chemotherapy. We used Cox proportional hazards models to estimate hazard ratios (HR) for the effect of recovery of menstruation on DFS and OS.
