Non-edible meat from fur-producing animals entering into meat consumption chain could pose a serious threat to public health. For the purpose of risk prevention and control of meat safety, in this study, marker peptides for discriminating non-edible meat of fur-producing animals (including fox, silver fox, blue fox, raccoon dog, ussuri raccoon dog, mink and American mink) from meat of food-providing animals (including pig, cattle, sheep and donkey) were explored by shot-gun proteomics and verified by target approach. Two mass spectrometry platforms combined with bioinformatic and chemometric tools were integratedly emloyed for method development. Meat samples were first subjected to in-solution protein digestion and the subsequently tryptic peptides were profiled and quantitated by ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q/TOF MS) with sequential windowed acquisition of all theoretical fragment ion mass spectra (SWATH-MS) mode. Candidate marker peptides screened by chemometric tools were further filtered for their biological specificity and detectability through bioinformatics analysis as well as multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) verification with UHPLC-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QQQ MS). As a result, 9 peptides, out of 104 candidates, were selected as markers for discriminating analysis, of which DQTLQEELAR was validated as primary indicator of non-edible meat from the concerned fur-producing animals. An MRM method based on the developed marker peptides for routine use was finally proposed for risk alarming of non-edible meat from fur-producing animals in food safety control.The zone of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster represents the largest area of chronic low-intensity radioactive impact on the natural ecosystems. The effects of chronic low-dose irradiation for natural populations of organisms and their offspring are unknown. The natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster sampled in 2007 in Chernobyl sites with different levels of radiation contamination were investigated. The offspring of specimens from these populations were studied under laboratory conditions to assess the effects of parental irradiation on the mutation process and survival of the offspring. Transgenerational effects of radioactive contamination were observed at the level of gross chromosomal rearrangements (dominant lethal mutations). The frequency of point/gene mutations (recessive sex-linked lethal mutations) of the offspring of the irradiated parents corresponded to the actual level of spontaneous mutations. The survival rate of offspring decreased over 160 generations and significantly correlated with the dominant lethal mutation levels. Our results provide a compelling evidence that other factors (distance from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, time after the initial exposure, selection site and origin of population) can affect the changes in the levels of the studied parameters along with the parental radiation exposure. They can also make a significant contribution to the health of the offspring of animals exposed to radioactive contamination. These data should be useful for future radioecological studies which will clarify the true mechanisms of transgenerational inheritance and generation of mutations to the offspring of chronically irradiated animals and their reactions to the interaction of various environmental factors.
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most serious complications in the late stages of diabetes, with a complex mechanism. As a complication affecting local lesions, few studies have compared differences of cytokine expression in the serum and retina. Owing to the specific value of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to complex diseases, TCM research has recently boomed in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Bushen Yiqi Huoxue (BYH) prescription is a Chinese herbal compound that has been independently developed by our research group and has been proved to have a positive effect on DR; however, its specific mechanism and compatibility rule remain to be further explored.

To construct a DR model of Sprague Dawley (SD) rats, simultaneously detect multiple factor expression in the serum and retina of rats, explore the effect of BYH prescription and its disassembled prescriptions on DR, and discuss the influence of various compatibility combinations.

BYH prescription was disassembled into two new compang that the effect of TCM prescriptions is not the simple addition of each single drug or its chemical components, but the rationality of its internal compatibility combination. Further, ICAM-1 and VEGF have exactly different expression levels, suggesting more attention to be paid by other researchers or doctors in future studies.Cardiometabolic status is a key factor in mortality by cardiovascular disease (CVD) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study evaluated the association of cardiometabolic risk status with clinical activity and damage in SLE patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 158 SLE patients and 123 healthy subjects (HS). Anthropometry, glucose, hs-CRP, lipid profile, oxLDL, sCD36, anti-oxLDL antibodies, and cardiometabolic indexes were evaluated. SLE patients had dyslipidemia, higher sCD36, anti-oxLDL antibodies, hs-CRP, and risk (OR > 2) to present Castelli score ≥ 4.5, HDL-C  2) to present a Castelli score ≥ 4.5, Kannel score ≥ 3, TG/HDL-C ratio ≥ 3 and HDL-C  less then  40 mg/dL. The septum between the true and the pseudo-lumen was cut endoscopically, following which the patient recovered well without any complications.
