In summary, these findings describe mechanism by which NO regulates GA biosynthesis via S-nitrosylation of Acon under HS condition in G. lucidum.Background The aim of this study was to report the contemporary management of Hirschsprung disease (HD) in New Zealand. Methods We undertook a national multi-centre retrospective review of all newly diagnosed cases of HD during a 16-year period (2000-2015). Demographics, genetic and syndromic associations, family history, radiology and histology results and surgical interventions were analysed. Results A total of 246 cases (malesfemales 41) were identified, an incidence of 13870 live births. Short-segment disease was present in 81.7%, long-segment disease in 8.5%, total colonic aganglionosis in 6.5% and unknown in 3.3%. HD was diagnosed by 4 weeks' corrected gestational age in 67%. Thirty cases (12%) also had Trisomy 21. Fifty-three (21.5%) patients required a repeat rectal biopsy for definitive diagnosis. A contrast enema was performed in 55% and identified the transition zone with 69% accuracy. Primary pull-through surgery was undertaken in 59% (65% of short-segment cases) at a median age of 27 days; others were initially managed by a defunctioning stoma. The commonest definitive procedure was a Soave-Boley endorectal pull-through (79%) (or similar variant). During a median follow-up of 7.4 years, six (2.5%) survivors underwent a redo pull-through, 13 (5.5%) an appendicostomy, 16 (6.8%) a defunctioning stoma and 10 never had a definitive procedure. Total colonic aganglionosis was significantly more likely to be fatal (12.5% versus 0.5%, P less then 0.0005) or associated with a permanent end stoma (27.5% versus 4.5%, P less then 0.0005). As a class of rising photocatalysts, organic conjugated polymers offer high flexibility in tuning the framework of the backbone and porosity to fulfill the requirements for photocatalytic applications. In the past decade, significant progress has been made in visible-light-driven water splitting employing organic conjugated polymers. Overall mortality and development of T2DM was more common in patients with grade 3 steatosis compared to lower grades of steatosis. Liver fat measured with SPC was significant for overall mortality (aHR 1.04). In patients that underwent repeat biopsy, reduction in liver fat measured with SPC was associated with decreased risk of developing T2DM (aHR 0.91 for each SPC percentage decrease). CONCLUSION Steatosis grade and liver fat measured with SPC predict mortality and the risk of developing T2DM in NAFLD. Nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT), penile color Doppler ultrasonography (pDUS), and neurophysiological tests were conducted in the ED group. RESULTS Forty-four ED patients with normal NPT, and 84 with normal vasculature or mixed vascular abnormalities were excluded. The remaining 132 men were classified into two groups, arteriogenic ED (n = 87) and venous leakage (n = 45), by pDUS. METHODS In a randomized, placebo-controlled trial, 606 newborns with at least one allergic parent received orally a bacterial lysate consisting of heat-killed Gram-negative Escherichia coli Symbio and Gram-positive Enterococcus faecalis Symbio or placebo from week 5 until the end of month 7. A total of 402 children were followed until school age (6-11 years) for the assessment of current atopic dermatitis (AD), allergic rhinitis (AR), asthma and sensitization against aeroallergens. RESULTS AD was diagnosed in 11.0% (22/200) of children in the active and in 10.4% (21/202) of children in the placebo group. AR was diagnosed in 35% (70/200) of children in the active and in 38.1% (77/202) children in the placebo group. Asthma was diagnosed in 9% (18/199) of children in the active and in 6.

In this paper, we develop a compact CNN-based model that not only achieves high performance on tiny defect inspection but can be run on low-frequency CPUs (central processing units). Our model consists of a light-weight (LW) bottleneck and a decoder. By a pyramid of lightweight kernels, the LW bottleneck provides rich features with less computational cost. The decoder is also built in a lightweight way, which consists of an atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) and depthwise separable convolution layers. These lightweight designs reduce the redundant weights and computation greatly. We train our models on groups of surface datasets. The model can successfully classify/segment surface defects with an Intel i3-4010U CPU within 30 ms. Our model obtains similar accuracy with MobileNetV2 while only has less than its 1/3 FLOPs (floating-point operations per second) and 1/8 weights. A group of elders (age mean (m) = 80.79 years old, SD = 5.38; gender 21 female and seven male) were asked to perform a 30-s CST using the device while a trained nurse manually counted valid transitions. Ultimately, a moving minimum filter was necessary to cancel the effect of outliers, likely produced because older people tend to produce more motion artefacts and, thus, noisier signals. While the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) for this study was good (ICC = 0.86, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.73, 0.93), it is not yet clear whether the results are sufficient to support clinical decision-making.

OBJECTIVE The prevalence of obesity and severe obesity among adolescents has increased dramatically in developing countries. However, the distribution of cardiometabolic risk factors through the severity of obesity continuum is relatively unknown among youth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of weight categories with cardiometabolic risk factors among Brazilian adolescents. METHODS ERICA (The Study of Cardiovascular Risk in Adolescents) was a multicenter, school-based, cross-sectional study composed of Brazilian adolescents (12-17 y of age). Severity of obesity was classified according to the International Obesity Task Force reference values for body mass index (BMI) and several cardiometabolic risk factors were measured after clinical and biochemical exams and categorized using standard definitions of abnormal values. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/hexamethonium-bromide.html RESULTS Among the 37 892 adolescents enrolled, 8708 had excess weight, being classified with overweight (17.2%), obesity (5.6%), and severe obesity (1.3%). RESEARCH QUESTION How does a real-world environment affect dual-task performance and flexible task prioritization during dual-task walking in adults with and without stroke? METHODS Adults with stroke (n = 29) as well as age-, gender-, and education-matched adults without stroke (n = 23) participated. Single and dual-task walking were examined in two different environments (lab hallway, hospital lobby). Two different dual-task combinations were assessed (Stroop-gait, speech-gait). Each dual-task was performed first without explicit instruction about task prioritization (no-priority) and then with gait-priority instruction and Stroop/speech-priority instruction in randomized order. RESULTS People with stroke had significantly slower dual-task gait speed (Stroop only) in the lobby than the lab, but the effect was nott may also be that the cognitive control strategy governing task prioritization is influenced by degree of cognitive engagement. This research was the first instance of the use of photography to analyse movement and was the ultimate precursor to motion capture for biomechanical assessment of movement utilised today. With the expansion of the field continuing, the term "gait" has become synonymous with walking and is often used interchangeably. In this editorial, we discuss the term "gait" and its' origin in the context of scientific research and aim to address the heterogeneous taxonomy associated with the ambiguous use of the term "gait". RESEARCH QUESTION What is the ambiguous use of the term gait? METHODS A non-systematic review was conducted of the original research and short communications in the 2019 issues of Gait and Posture RESULTS A total of 219 titles were characterised as directly addressing locomotion. Of these, a total of 108 titles quantified the form of locomotion (e.g. walk/ing, run/ing) and 111 titles utilised the word "gait" to describe the task. However, 104 of these clarified the form of locomotion either within the abstract or the main text of the manuscript. SIGNIFICANCE "Gait" is not mutually exclusive to humans nor walking. The ambiguity associated with the use of this term demonstrates the importance of quantifying the type of locomotion being studied. Ultimately, such efforts will allow the streamlining search strategies for appropriate research for academics, clinicians, and scientists alike. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ki-67 indices of early breast cancers treated at St. Gallen Breast Center were collected (2010-2014; 1154 patients). Distribution of Ki-67 values was analyzed for each year, along with histologic subtype and grading. Tumors were classified into intrinsic subtypes using two definitions 2013 St. Gallen Consensus and the refined definition by Maisonneuve ("Milano Group"). Our institution's Ki-67 cut-off value was adjusted to obtain the same distribution of luminal subtypes as published data of the Milano Group. RESULTS Ki-67 index frequency distributions were comparable between years (mean 26-30%, median 22-26%). Shape and position of the distribution curves were nearly identical. Ki-67 values correlated with tumor grade (median Ki-67 G1 12.0%, G2 21%, G3 38%). Standard deviation of Ki-67 increased with higher grading (G1 6.9; G2 9.2; G3 18.2; p less then 0.001). According to the 2013 definition (and refined definition respectively), there were 35% (41%) luminal A-like and 65% (59%) luminal B-like tumors. To obtain the same distribution as the Milano group, Ki-67 cut-off needed to be elevated to 22%. CONCLUSIONS Ki-67 index assessment was comparable over many years. Knowledge of one's institution's Ki-67 value distribution is essential for clinical decision-making of adjuvant therapies in early breast cancer.

There are few published reports of testicular oocytes (TO) in Smallmouth Bass before the 1990s, so it is difficult to know how long this has been occurring. Consequently, this study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence and severity of TO occurrence in whole fish specimens from two archival collections-the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in Suitland, Maryland, and Cornell University's Museum of Vertebrates in Ithaca, New York. Gonads were excised from 167 preserved male Smallmouth Bass that were originally collected between 1875 and 2004, and routine histologic sections were prepared and examined. The severity of TO was determined using a semiquantitative scoring system. Overall, 52.1% of male Smallmouth Bass were found to have TO. Affected fish had been collected in 11 of the 18 represented states, and TO were found in specimens harvested during decades as early as the 1880s and 1900s. Unfortunately, the small number of samples acquired at the earliest time periods precluded analyses of prevalence and severity trends over time. The results of this study demonstrated that the phenomenon of TO in male Smallmouth Bass is at least a century old and confirmed the widespread nature of this finding throughout the species' historic range. Further research efforts should focus on determining the baseline prevalence of TO in laboratory-reared male Smallmouth Bass that have not been exposed to endocrine active substances or the effects of experimental estrogen exposure on such fish. © 2020 American Fisheries Society.The opportunistic human pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the leading causes of nosocomial infections. The high prevalence of multidrug-resistant strains, a high adaptability to changing environments and an overall pronounced stress resistance contribute to persistence and spread of the bacteria in hospitals and thereby promote repeated outbreaks. Altogether, the success of A. baumannii is mainly built on adaptation and stress resistance mechanisms, rather than relying on 'true' virulence factors. One of the stress factors that pathogens must cope with is osmolarity, which can differ between the external environment and different body parts of the human host. A. baumannii ATCC 19606T accumulates the compatible solutes glutamate, mannitol and trehalose in response to high salinities. In this work, it was found that most of the solutes vanish immediately after reaching stationary phase, a very unusual phenomenon. While glutamate can be metabolized, mannitol produced by MtlD is excreted to the medium in high amounts. First results indicate that A. baumannii ATCC 19606T undergoes a rapid switch to a dormant state (viable but non-culturable) after disappearance of the compatible solutes. Here, we show that part of the Alcanivorax genus, as well as oils, has an enormous potential for biodegrading aliphatic polyesters thanks to a unique and abundantly secreted alpha/beta hydrolase. There are few published reports of testicular oocytes (TO) in Smallmouth Bass before the 1990s, so it is difficult to know how long this has been occurring. Consequently, this study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence and severity of TO occurrence in whole fish specimens from two archival collections-the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in Suitland, Maryland, and Cornell University's Museum of Vertebrates in Ithaca, New York. Gonads were excised from 167 preserved male Smallmouth Bass that were originally collected between 1875 and 2004, and routine histologic sections were prepared and examined. The severity of TO was determined using a semiquantitative scoring system. Overall, 52.1% of male Smallmouth Bass were found to have TO. Affected fish had been collected in 11 of the 18 represented states, and TO were found in specimens harvested during decades as early as the 1880s and 1900s. Unfortunately, the small number of samples acquired at the earliest time periods precluded analyses of prevalence and severity trends over time. The results of this study demonstrated that the phenomenon of TO in male Smallmouth Bass is at least a century old and confirmed the widespread nature of this finding throughout the species' historic range. Further research efforts should focus on determining the baseline prevalence of TO in laboratory-reared male Smallmouth Bass that have not been exposed to endocrine active substances or the effects of experimental estrogen exposure on such fish. © 2020 American Fisheries Society.The opportunistic human pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the leading causes of nosocomial infections. The high prevalence of multidrug-resistant strains, a high adaptability to changing environments and an overall pronounced stress resistance contribute to persistence and spread of the bacteria in hospitals and thereby promote repeated outbreaks. Altogether, the success of A. baumannii is mainly built on adaptation and stress resistance mechanisms, rather than relying on 'true' virulence factors. One of the stress factors that pathogens must cope with is osmolarity, which can differ between the external environment and different body parts of the human host. A. baumannii ATCC 19606T accumulates the compatible solutes glutamate, mannitol and trehalose in response to high salinities. In this work, it was found that most of the solutes vanish immediately after reaching stationary phase, a very unusual phenomenon. While glutamate can be metabolized, mannitol produced by MtlD is excreted to the medium in high amounts. First results indicate that A. baumannii ATCC 19606T undergoes a rapid switch to a dormant state (viable but non-culturable) after disappearance of the compatible solutes. This study examined the interrelated and longitudinal impacts of parent-child shared book reading, parenting stress, and early relational health, as measured by both parental warmth and parent sensitivity, from infancy to toddlerhood. To extend findings from previous studies of collateral effects that have been conducted in parenting interventions, we examined parenting behaviors in a broader context to determine whether shared book reading would confer collateral benefits to the parent and parent-child relationship beyond those expected (i.e., language and literacy). It was hypothesized that positive parent-child interactions, such as shared reading, would have positive impacts on parent outcomes such as parenting stress, parental warmth, and sensitivity. The sample consisted of 293 low-income mothers and their children who participated in a randomized controlled trial. Shared book reading, parenting stress, and parental warmth were assessed when children were 6 and 18 months old. We computed a series of cross-lagged structural equation models to examine longitudinal interrelations among these three factors. Results indicated that shared book reading at 6 months was associated with increases in observed and reported parental warmth and observed sensitivity and decreases in parenting stress at 18 months, controlling for baseline risk factors and treatment group status. These findings suggest that early parent-child book reading can have positive collateral impacts on parents' stress and the parent-child relationship over time. Both parent and teacher ratings of externalizing and internalizing problems support the social failure pathway, but not the academic failure pathway. Children with externalizing behaviors at T1 who developed internalizing problems 2 years later did so via their experiences of peer victimization. These results apply for both boys and girls and do not vary according to child age at T1 or the level of conduct problems at study inception. These findings underscore the importance of early screening and intervention for externalizing behavioral problems in order to reduce subsequent peer victimization and internalizing problems. The results suggest a way of understanding the pathway to depressive symptoms and poor goal progress in perfectionists. They point to a number of implications for clinical practice when working with self-critical perfectionists. Specifically, they indicate that interventions aimed at promoting autonomous motivation, may not only bolster goal progress but also act as a protective factor against depressive symptoms. Together, the results indicate that autonomous motivation is central to goal progress and suggest that low goal-related autonomy can be linked to negative outcomes. The diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa) can be challenging due to the limited performance of current diagnostic tests, including PSA, digital rectal examination and transrectal conventional US. Multiparametric MRI has improved PCa diagnosis and is recommended prior to biopsy; however, mp-MRI does miss a substantial number of PCa. Advanced US modalities include transrectal prostate elastography and contrast-enhanced US, as well as improved B-mode, micro-US and micro-Doppler techniques. These techniques can be combined to define a novel US approach, multiparametric US (mp-US). Mp-US improves PCa diagnosis but is not sufficiently accurate to obviate the utility of mp-MRI. Mp-US using advanced techniques and mp-MRI provide complementary information which will become even more important in the era of focal therapy, where precise identification of PCa location is needed.We describe the case of an adult female patient with symptomatic familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia requiring a step-wise therapeutic approach and the eventual need for a total parathyroidectomy and thyroidectomy to cure symptoms. Genetic analysis demonstrated a heterozygous R227L inactivating CASR gene variant, previously only described in neonatal severe hyperparathyroidism. Post-operative histology showed diffuse hyperplasia of all four parathyroid glands along with the presence of intrathyroidal parathyroid tissue. Here we show that Hydromys can detect water motions with its whiskers. Behavioural thresholds range from 1.0 to 9.4 mm s-1 water velocity, based on maximal horizontal water velocity in the area covered by the whiskers. This high sensitivity to water motions would enable Hydromys to detect fishes passing by. No responses to surface waves generated by a vibrating rod and resembling the surface waves caused by struggling insects were found.PURPOSE Abnormalities during Müllerian duct and female reproductive tract formation during embryonic development result in Müllerian duct anomalies (MDA). Previous studies have identified a role for mutations in related genes and DNA copy number variation (CNV). However, the correlation between gene methylation and MDA remains to be understood. METHODS Endometrial tissues were collected from patients with septate (n = 23) or normal uterus (n = 28). We detected the methylation status of CpG sites and mRNA levels of nine candidate genes, including HOXA10, EMX2, TP63, ITGB3, PAX2, LHX1, GSC, WNT4, and H19, using MethyTarget and quantitative real-time polynucleotide chain reaction (qRT-PCR), respectively RESULTS Compared with healthy controls, we detected three hypomethylated CpG sites (P 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Aberrant DNA methylation within the promoter of PAX2 may contribute to the development of MDA by regulating its gene expression. However, the methylation status of HOXA10, EMX2, TP63, ITGB3, LHX1, GSC, WNT4, and H19, may not contribute to the development of MDA.PURPOSE Despite the introduction of sentinel node biopsy in patients with vulvar cancer, still approximately 50% of all patients have to undergo an inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy. This is associated with a high incidence of postoperative complications, which may be influenced by inguinal drain management. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of a new surgical technique regarding drain management with an inguinoperitoneal drainage. METHODS A retrospective analysis of 21 vulvar cancer patients with inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy was conducted. A silicone drain was circularly placed with the perforated end in the groin and the other end in the space of Douglas. The removal after 3 months was performed under local anesthesia. All patients were questioned during clinical follow-up regarding their personal experiences with the procedure, the occurrence of complications, and side effects using a clinical questionnaire. RESULTS In 100% of the patients, the procedure was feasible. Regarding the number of groin punctures due to lymphocyst formation, 15 (71.4%) patients did not need any intervention and 3 (14.3%) patients needed 1-3 punctures. The patient satisfaction with the internal drainage was ranked as good by 17 (81.0%) patients and as moderate by 1 (4.8%) patient. In 3 (14.3%) patients, information about the number of groin punctures and the patient satisfaction were missing. CONCLUSION Inguinoperitoneal drainage after inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy in vulvar cancer patients is feasible and safe and a patient satisfaction of 81% is promising. For definitive conclusions regarding the efficacy of this technique, further investigations and prospective multicenter trials are needed.PURPOSE The head of the hippocampus (H) is classically described as having two to four digitations both in ex vivo specimens and in vivo MR coronal images. We detected the methylation status of CpG sites and mRNA levels of nine candidate genes, including HOXA10, EMX2, TP63, ITGB3, PAX2, LHX1, GSC, WNT4, and H19, using MethyTarget and quantitative real-time polynucleotide chain reaction (qRT-PCR), respectively RESULTS Compared with healthy controls, we detected three hypomethylated CpG sites (P 0.05). This is associated with a high incidence of postoperative complications, which may be influenced by inguinal drain management. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of a new surgical technique regarding drain management with an inguinoperitoneal drainage. METHODS A retrospective analysis of 21 vulvar cancer patients with inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy was conducted. A silicone drain was circularly placed with the perforated end in the groin and the other end in the space of Douglas. The removal after 3 months was performed under local anesthesia. All patients were questioned during clinical follow-up regarding their personal experiences with the procedure, the occurrence of complications, and side effects using a clinical questionnaire. RESULTS In 100% of the patients, the procedure was feasible. Regarding the number of groin punctures due to lymphocyst formation, 15 (71.4%) patients did not need any intervention and 3 (14.3%) patients needed 1-3 punctures. The patient satisfaction with the internal drainage was ranked as good by 17 (81.0%) patients and as moderate by 1 (4.8%) patient. In 3 (14.3%) patients, information about the number of groin punctures and the patient satisfaction were missing. CONCLUSION Inguinoperitoneal drainage after inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy in vulvar cancer patients is feasible and safe and a patient satisfaction of 81% is promising. This case demonstrates that although very rare, orbital compartment syndrome can occur without compression of the eye or an intra-orbital mass. Visual loss is a devastating complication and preoperative informed consent of this complication is imperative. Constant vigilance to ensure adequate arterial and venous supply to the orbit, with great care to prevent external compression on the eye, hopefully, will continue to make this complication rare. The management of patients with novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) represents a new challenge for medical and surgical teams. Each operating room in the world should be prepared thoughtfully, and the development of a protocol and patient route seems mandatory. An adequate degree of protection must be used. We propose recommendations to help different professionals in the establishment of protocols for the management of patients with COVID-19. We also offer a checklist that could be used in the operating room. BACKGROUND Spinal vascular malformations (SVM) are rarely multiple less than 50 observations have so far been documented, with a maximum of 4 coexisting lesions per patient, always restricted to a single vertebral region (e.g., cervical or thoracic). CASE DESCRIPTION We describe the case of a 61-year-old woman with Cowden syndrome (CS) with 15 spinal arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) at the cervical, thoracic and lumbar levels and an adrenal AVF. She was initially referred for re-evaluation of an upper cervical spinal epidural spinal arteriovenous fistulas (SEAVF) diagnosed 6 years earlier. Her history included breast carcinoma, a malignant salivary gland tumor, and removal of multiple ovarian, thyroid, and gastric hamartomas. CT and MRI confirmed the presence of a prominent cervical vascular lesion. Spinal digital subtraction angiography (SpDSA) revealed the presence of 15 additional vascular anomalies. CONCLUSION This multiplicity of AVFs appears to result from a combination of various factors, including local regional hemodynamic changes, growth factor-mediated alterations involving notably VEGF pathways, and the prothrombotic state associated with abnormalities in blood vessel structure. METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of a series of 8 patients with LN involving upper limb peripheral nerves between 2013 and 2019. All patients underwent preoperative ultrasonography for the upper extremity nerves and were diagnosed as LN by surgery. The clinical manifestations, ultrasonography characteristics and accuracy were analyzed. RESULTS In this series, LN was involved in 10 peripheral nerves from 8 patients. Median nerve is the most commonly affected nerve (60%). 4 cases presented macrodactyly combined with masses from distal forearm and extending to wrist and palm areas. Among 8 patients, 5 cases were diagnosed with LN by preoperative ultrasonography, with the accuracy of 62.5%. Axial ultrasonic image showed the punctate hypoechoic fascicles was embedded in hyperechoic adipose tissue in the "lotus root--like" appearance; Longitudinal ultrasonic image showed the strip hypoechoic fascicles alternates with hyperechoic adipose tissue in the "cable-like" appearance. Meanwhile, ultrasonic image showed the thickened of adipose tissue around the affected nerve and the enlargement of flexor tendons in some patients. CONCLUSIONS Ultrasonography has the potential to be a useful tool for the non-invasive examination for LN. The possibility of LN should be considered in patients with mass in wrist and palm, macrodactyly, or syndactyly. In this study, we present our institution's experience with SSAC of WNBA performed via a 'shouldering' and 'framing' with a single Atlas stent and spherical 3D Stryker coil. METHODS A retrospective review of 35 patients with WNBA who underwent SSAC of WNBA performed via a 'shouldering' and 'framing' with a single Atlas stent and spherical 3D Stryker coil from 2018 to 2019. Data collection was performed on baseline demographics, clinical presentation, aneurysm characteristics, angiographic and functional outcomes, and perioperative and postoperative complications. RESULTS Of 35 patients, the mean age was 59.9±11.6 and 25/35 (71.4%) were female. The mean aneurysm diameter was 6.3mm±3.4, the mean neck size was 3.9mm±1.3, and the mean dome-to-neck ratio was 1.

CONCLUSION Our health belief model-based questionnaire using quantitative measures enabled the confirmation of popular beliefs about covid-19 infection risks. A total of 1,187 articles were found after peer selection. RESULTS In total, 16 articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected for the review. The descriptors used were [((("Child" OR "Child, Preschool" OR "Infant" OR "Infant, Newborn") AND (Cohort Studies" OR "Longitudinal Studies")) AND "Brazil")]. The inclusion criteria were Brazilian cohorts that started the baseline in the prenatal period or at birth and with at least two follow-ups with the participants. In order to meet the concept of LCE, we excluded those cohorts whose follow-ups were restricted to the first year of life, as well as those that did not address biological, behavioral and psychosocial aspects, and cohorts with data collection of a single stage of the life cycle. RESULTS The search step identified 5,010 articles. Eighteen cohorts were selected for descriptive synthesis. The median number of baseline participants was 2,000 individuals and the median age at the last follow-up was 9 years. Sample loss at the last follow-up ranged from 9.2 to 87.5%. Most cohorts monitored two phases of the life cycle (the perinatal period and childhood). The Southern region had the highest number of cohorts. The main variables collected were sociodemographic and environmental aspects of the family, morbidity aspects, nutritional practices and lifestyle. CONCLUSIONS We recommend the continuity of these cohorts, the approach to different social contexts and the performance of follow-ups with participants in different phases of the life cycle for the strengthening and expansion of life course epidemiology analyses in Brazil.OBJECTIVE To estimate the proportion and total number of the general adult population who may be at higher risk of severe Covid-19 in Brazil. METHODS We included 51,770 participants from a nationally representative, household-based health survey (PNS) conducted in Brazil. We estimated the proportion and number of adults (≥ 18 years) at risk of severe Covid-19 by sex, educational level, race/ethnicity, and state based on the presence of one or more of the following risk factors age ≥ 65 years or medical diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, chronic respiratory disease, cancer, stroke, chronic kidney disease and moderate to severe asthma, smoking status, and obesity. RESULTS Adults at risk of severe Covid-19 in Brazil varied from 34.0% (53 million) to 54.5% (86 million) nationwide. Less-educated adults present a 2-fold higher prevalence of risk factors compared to university graduated. We found no differences by sex and race/ethnicity. São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and Rio Grande do Sul were the most vulnerable states in absolute and relative terms of adults at risk. CONCLUSIONS Proportion and total number of adults at risk of severe Covid-19 are high in Brazil, with wide variation across states and adult subgroups. These findings should be considered while designing and implementing prevention measures in Brazil. We argue that these results support broad social isolation measures, particularly when testing capacity for SARS-CoV-2 is limited.OBJECTIVE To review the main instruments of functional assessment and health status cited in the literature to evaluate Brazilian workers and verify the compatibility of their items with the core set for professional rehabilitation. METHODS A review of the literature was conducted in the main databases in search of articles that used assessment instruments in populations of workers between 2007 and 2017. Subsequently, the contents of the identified instruments were retrieved, and two evaluators analyzed their items to verify the compatibility with the categories of the core set of the International Classification of Functioning for professional rehabilitation. Cohen's kappa coefficient was used to evaluate the agreement between the evaluators. RESULTS Five specific and eight generic instruments were selected to evaluate the functioning of workers. The analysis of the items of the total instruments allowed the definition of 58 categories (64.5%) of the core set with minimal overlap 13 (76.5%) of the body functions component, 29 (72.

São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and Rio Grande do Sul were the most vulnerable states in absolute and relative terms of adults at risk. CONCLUSIONS Proportion and total number of adults at risk of severe Covid-19 are high in Brazil, with wide variation across states and adult subgroups. These findings should be considered while designing and implementing prevention measures in Brazil. We argue that these results support broad social isolation measures, particularly when testing capacity for SARS-CoV-2 is limited.OBJECTIVE To review the main instruments of functional assessment and health status cited in the literature to evaluate Brazilian workers and verify the compatibility of their items with the core set for professional rehabilitation. METHODS A review of the literature was conducted in the main databases in search of articles that used assessment instruments in populations of workers between 2007 and 2017. Subsequently, the contents of the identified instruments were retrieved, and two evaluators analyzed their items to verify the compatibility with the categories of the core set of the International Classification of Functioning for professional rehabilitation. Cohen's kappa coefficient was used to evaluate the agreement between the evaluators. RESULTS Five specific and eight generic instruments were selected to evaluate the functioning of workers.
