Composition of a nonpolar extract from the aerial parts of the plant was analyzed by chromatographic methods supported with 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The analysis revealed the presence of loliolide, reynosin, samtamarine, 2,3-dihydroaromaticin, 2-deoxy-4-epi-pulchellin and thymol derivatives as terpenoid constituents of the plant. One of the latter compounds-7,10-diisobutyryloxy-8,9-epoxythymyl isobutyrate-at concentrations 0.5, 1.0 and 2.5 μM, significantly reduced IL-8, IL-1β and CCL2 excretion by LPS-stimulated human neutrophils.Avian influenza A viruses (IAV) have received significant attention due to the threat they pose to human, livestock, and wildlife health. In this review, we focus on what is known about IAV dynamics in less common avian species that may play a role in trafficking IAVs to poultry operations. Specifically, we focus on synanthropic bird species. Synanthropic species, otherwise known as peridomestic, are species that are ecologically associated with humans and anthropogenically modified landscapes, such as agricultural and urban areas. Aquatic birds such as waterfowl and shorebirds are the species most commonly associated with avian IAVs, and are generally considered the reservoir or maintenance hosts in the natural ecology of these viruses. Waterfowl and shorebirds are occasionally associated with poultry facilities, but are uncommon or absent in many areas, especially large commercial operations. In these cases, spillover hosts that share resources with both maintenance hosts and target hosts such as poultry may play an important role in introducing wild bird viruses onto farms. Consequently, our focus here is on what is known about IAV dynamics in synanthropic hosts that are commonly found on both farms and in nearby habitats, such as fields, lakes, wetlands, or riparian areas occupied by waterfowl or shorebirds.Ordered mesoporous materials have attracted considerable attention due to their potential applications in catalysis, adsorption, and separation technologies, as well as biomedical applications. In the present manuscript, we aim at a rational design to obtain the desired surface functionality (Ti and/or hydrophobic groups) while obtaining short channels (short diffusion paths) and large pore size (>10 nm). Santa Barbara Amorphous material SBA-15 and periodic mesoporous organosilica PMO materials are synthesized using Pluronic PE 10400 (P104) surfactant under mild acidic conditions to obtain hexagonal platelet-like particles with very short mesochannels (300-450 nm). The use of expanders, such as 1, 3, 5-trimethylbenzene (TMB) and 1, 3, 5-triisopropylbenzene (TIPB) were tested in order to increase the pore size. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ABT-888.html TMB yielded in the formation of vesicles in all the syntheses attempted, whereas P104 combined with TIPB resulted both in expanded (E) E-SBA-15 and E-PMO with 12.3 nm pore size short channel particles in both cases. Furthermore, the synthesis method was expanded to the incorporation of small amount of Ti via co-condensation method using titanocene as titanium source. As a result, Ti-E-SBA-15 was obtained with 15.5 nm pore size and isolated Ti-sites maintaining platelet hexagonal morphology. Ti-PMO was obtained with 7.8 nm and short channels, although the pore size under the tried synthesis conditions could not be expanded further without losing the structural ordering.In this study, blends based on hyaluronic acid (HA) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were characterized by the viscometric method, steady shear rheological tests and FTIR spectroscopy (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy). Viscometric studies showed the miscibility of HA and PVA in distilled water 0.1 mol dm-3 NaCl and 0.1 mol dm-3 HCl. The method proposed by Garcia et al. was applied to assess the miscibility of polymers, while Δ[η] and Δb were introduced to determine of miscibility from the Huggins plots. The viscometric data showed that the attractive forces of HA and PVA were dominant when dissolved in 0.1 mol dm-3 NaCl and 0.1 mol dm-3 HCl, while, in distilled water, repulsive forces played the leading role. All polymer solutions were well characterized using a power law model, and exhibited non-Newtonian behavior with pseudoplasticity increasing with the increasing weight fraction of HA in 0.1 mol dm-3 NaCl and 0.1 mol dm-3 HCl. FTIR studies exhibited the formation of new intermolecular interactions between HA and PVA via hydrogen bonding.The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the medium- and long-term efficacy of manual therapy for temporomandibular joint disorders, alone or in combination with therapeutic exercise. Information was compiled from the PubMed, SCOPUS, Cochrane, SciELO and PEDro databases. The inclusion criteria were established randomized controlled trials only; participants must present any kind of temporomandibular disorder; the treatments must include manual therapy in at least one of the experimental groups; a minimum of 3 months of follow-up; pain must be one of the primary or secondary outcomes; and the article must be available in English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or French. Six documents that fulfilled all the criteria were obtained for analysis, two of them considered low quality and four considered high quality. A significant improvement in pain and mouth opening compared to baseline was observed after manual therapy treatment. Manual therapy seems to be an effective treatment for temporomandibular disorders in the medium term, although the effect appears to decrease over time. However, when complemented with therapeutic exercise, these effects can be maintained in the long term. This review underlines the importance of manual therapy and therapeutic exercise for the medium- and long-term treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders in daily practice.The anodization of commercially pure Ti alloy (99.5 wt %) and two biomedical titanium alloys, Ti6Al7Nb and Ti6Al4V, was performed, and the resulting anodic oxides were studied. The biomedical alloys were made by Laser Engineered Net Shaping. The glycol-based and glycerol-based electrolytes with 0.3 M ammonium fluoride and 2 wt % of deionized water content were tested. It was found that electrolyte type as well as the chemical composition of the base substrate affected the final morphology and chemical composition of the anodic oxide formed. A higher current density, ionic mobility, and oxide growth rate were obtained in glycol-based electrolyte as compared to those obtained in glycerol-based electrolyte for all tested alloys. A self-organized nanotubular and nanoporous morphology of the anodic oxide in both types of electrolyte was obtained. In each electrolyte, the alloy susceptibility to oxidation increased in the following order Ti6Al4V less then Ti 99.5% less then Ti6Al7Nb, which can be correlated to the oxidation susceptibility of the base titanium alloy.

The measurements and simulations reveal that voice directivity in singing is affected if the mouth opening is changed significantly. The measurements show that the torso generates side lobes due to diffraction and reflections at frequencies related to the torso's dimensions.A vibrating surface in contact with a fluid experiences a reaction force that is related to the velocity of the surface. In the case of a harmonic vibration, the acoustic radiation impedance provides a useful measure of the harmonic force resulting from a harmonic velocity of the surface. More generally, the radiation impulse response, which is the temporal Fourier transform of the radiation impedance, provides the basis for a convolution approach to evaluate both the time-dependent force and the energy transfer into the fluid resulting from a time-dependent velocity of a fluid-loaded vibrating surface for interior and external problems. Important properties of the radiation impulse responses are presented using the Kirchhoff Surface Integral Equation and Fourier transforms. A universal form of the radiation impulse response, which consists of a weighted Dirac delta function and a baseband function, is presented. The reduction in the sound level ranged from 4 to 6 dBA for the indicators Ld, Le, and Ln, and this is connected to a significant variation in the daily time patterns, especially during weekends, when the activity started earlier in the morning and lasted longer at midday, decreasing significantly in the afternoon.In this study, we design a type of rotationally symmetric lattice with curved beams and investigate the wave propagation properties of the structure. The analytical model of the structure is established to obtain the mass and stiffness matrices first. Because the dimensions of the mass and stiffness matrices will become very large if the structure is meshed with a number of small elements, we introduce the symplectic solution method to overcome the above difficulties of solving the eigenvalue problem. The effects of geometrical parameters and slenderness ratios on the distributions of bandgaps and variations of group velocities are investigated. We also numerically investigate the dynamic wave dispersion behavior and the transient responses of displacement and transmission coefficients in lattices subjected to excitations. Excellent agreement is obtained between the results obtained by the symplectic solution method and numerical simulations. The special wave-attenuation property of this type of structure is demonstrated and validated through experimental testing. The measured transmission coefficients in lattices with different geometrical parameters and slenderness ratios are in good agreement with the numerical simulations. The work provides a method for calculating wave behaviors in lattices and obtains lower bandgaps and directional wave propagation.An experimental campaign was undertaken to identify the effects posed by flow recirculation on the dynamic performance and acoustic emissions of an isolated rotor, operating in hover in a sealed anechoic chamber. It is shown that flow recirculation is an artifact of testing rotary-wing systems in an enclosed environment, and results in a significant amplification of tonal and broadband noise components. The acoustic emissions produced while the recirculated flow is ingested into the rotor disk vary from those emitted by similar rotors operating in clean inflow conditions. A variety of turbulence suppression screens were employed to impede the propagation of the rotor wake, in an effort to delay the onset of recirculation. This mitigation strategy proved to be effective for one treatment configuration and significantly extended the duration available to acquire clean measurements. The presence of this treatment is thought to alter the coherent structures comprising the recirculated flow and thus the noise emissions following the onset of flow recirculation.Since the Morfey-Howell Q/S was introduced as a single-point frequency-domain nonlinearity indicator for propagation of intense broadband noise [AIAA J. 19, 986-992 (1981)], there has been debate about its validity, utility, and interpretation. In this Letter, the generalized Burgers equation is recast in terms of specific acoustic impedance along with linear absorption and dispersion coefficients, normalized quadspectral density (Q/S), and newly proposed normalized cospectral density (C/S). The formulation leads to a rather straightforward interpretation in which Q/S and C/S, respectively, represent the additional absorption and dispersion at a locale, produced by the passage of a finite-amplitude wave.Further advances in the field of ultrafast magnetization dynamics require experimental tools to measure the spin and electron dynamics with element-specificity and femtosecond temporal resolution. We present a new laboratory setup for two complementary experiments with light in the extreme ultraviolet (XUV) spectral range. One experiment is designed for polarization-dependent transient spectroscopy, particularly for simultaneous measurements of magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) at the 3p resonances of the 3d transition metals Fe, Co, and Ni. The second instrument is designed for resonant small-angle scattering experiments with monochromatic light allowing us to monitor spin dynamics with spatial information on the nanometer scale. We combine a high harmonic generation (HHG) source with a phase shifter to obtain XUV pulses with variable polarization and a flux of about (3 ± 1) × 1010 photons/s/harmonic at 60 eV at the source. A dedicated reference spectrometer effectively reduces the intensity fluctuations of the HHG spectrum to below 0.

To determine the effect of nurse-led program based on Pender's Health Promotion Model on the exercise behaviors of coronary artery patients.
The two-arm parallel, single-blind, randomized controlled trial was conducted with a total of 62 patients, intervention (n = 32) and control group (n = 30). Intervention group received a nurse-led program based on Pender's Health Promotion Model and routine follow-ups of control group continued. The health perception, perceived exercise self efficacy, perceived exercise benefits/barriers, exercise-related effect, exercise frequency and time were assessed at baseline, 4th, 8th and 12th weeks. The data were evaluated by frequency, percentage, median, mean and standard deviation, chi-square, Friedman and Mann Whitney U tests.
Health perception (62.6 ± 9.5; median67.0; p < 0.001), perceived exercise benefit (105.8 ± 7.4; median107.0; p < 0.001), perceived exercise self efficacy (71.2 ± 5.4; median 71.5; p < 0.05), exercise-related effect (31.6 ± 6.0; median34.0; p < 0.05), exercise frequency (4.8 ± 2.2; median6.0 days/week; p < 0.05) and time (105.9 ± 53.6; median130.0 min/week; p < 0.05) were higher and perceived barriers (43.1 ± 3.9; median 42.0; p < 0.001) were lower in the intervention group at 12th week.
The nurse-led program has been shown to increase the exercise behavior in the intervention group.

This study explored family communication about undertaking genomic sequencing, and intentions to communicate pertinent heritable results to family members.
Semi-structured interviews were conducted with cancer patients (n = 53) and their relatives (n = 20) who underwent germline genome sequencing or molecular tumor testing. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis.
Key themes relevant to family communication about undertaking sequencing included perceiving family member interest, delaying discussion until results were received, having shared capacity to understand and cope, and having open communication in the family. Intended communication subsequent to receiving results was affected by disease severity, risk management options, degree of closeness in the family, sense of responsibility, and potential adverse impacts on family. Resource and support needs varied based on the complexity of test results, health professionals' availability, and disease severity. Unique subthemes were identified for specific subgroups.
Current findings support the need to assess the impact and resource needs specific to each clinical application of genomic sequencing.

A four weekly-session intervention was developed to reinforce cancer-related patient-caregiver communication. Patients receiving treatment for any diagnosed cancer, and their caregivers, were recruited from two oncology clinics in Belgium. Higher Actively Managing My Health predicted higher SRFR both directly and indirectly. Sufficient Social Support and adequate Actively Engaging with HCPs predicted higher SRFR indirectly. All three HL domains predicted R-IDWG indirectly.
Improving patients' HL could increase their understanding of PBFR and be more apt to follow fluid restrictions and reduce R-IDWG.

Intended communication subsequent to receiving results was affected by disease severity, risk management options, degree of closeness in the family, sense of responsibility, and potential adverse impacts on family. Resource and support needs varied based on the complexity of test results, health professionals' availability, and disease severity. Unique subthemes were identified for specific subgroups. Current findings support the need to assess the impact and resource needs specific to each clinical application of genomic sequencing. This comprehensive review of Medline publications during the period 2009-2019 attempts to identify the possible role of sex hormone receptors in gender variation and sexual dimorphism in the occurrence and progression of UBC. The clinical implications of identifying sex steroid receptors on factors such as disease prognostication and the therapeutic role of anti-androgens in the prevention and progression of UBC are critically reviewed. There is now significant evidence in literature to suggest the possible role of sex steroid hormone receptor-mediated signals in the genesis and progression of UBC. microRNAs (miRNAs) play essential roles in mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and early embryo development. The exact mechanism by which miRNAs regulate cell fate transition during embryo development is still not clear. Recent studies have identified and captured various pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) that share similar characteristics with cells from different stages of pre- and post-implantation embryos. These PSCs provide valuable models to understand miRNA functions in early mammalian development. In this short review, we will summarize recent work towards understanding the function and mechanism of miRNAs in regulating the transition or conversion between different pluripotent states. In addition, we will highlight unresolved questions and key future directions related to miRNAs in pluripotent state transition. Studies in these areas will further our understanding of miRNA functions in early embryo development, and may lead to practical means to control human PSCs for clinical applications in regenerative medicine.
To investigate the accuracy of the Social and Emotional Assessment-short version (Mini-SEA) to differentiate subgroups of behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) defined according to executive performance.
bvFTD (n=21), AD (n=20), and healthy controls (HC, n=23) underwent the Mini-SEA, comprising the Facial Emotion Recognition Test (FERT) and the faux-pas test. AD and bvFTD patients were classified according to their performance in the Frontal Assessment Battery into dysexecutive and nondysexecutive subgroups.
The area under the curve (AUC) values for the faux-pas test were 0.87 (dysexecutive-bvFTD vs. dysexecutive-AD) and 0.96 (non-dysexecutive-bvFTD vs. nondysexecutive-AD). The AUC values for FERT were 0.99 (dysexecutive-bvFTD vs. dysexecutive-AD) and 0.65 (nondysexecutive-bvFTD vs. nondysexecutive-AD); the AUC values for the Mini-SEA (total-score) were 0.95 (dysexecutive-bvFTD vs. dysexecutive-AD) and 0.88 (nondysexecutive-bvFTD vs. nondysexecutive-AD).

Recently, a series of exploratory studies, utilizing functional genomic strategies, have revealed that RBPs are prevalently involved in transcription control genome-wide through their interactions with chromatin. Here, we present a refined census of RBPs to grope for such an emerging role and discuss the global view of RBP-chromatin interactions and their functional diversities in transcription regulation.The reproductive number, or reproduction number, is a valuable metric in understanding infectious disease dynamics. There is a large body of literature related to its use and estimation. In the last 15 years, there has been tremendous progress in statistically estimating this number using case notification data. All analyses were repeated stratified by sex. An elevated risk was observed for having ever worked in a job with potential for electric shocks (odds ratio (OR) = 1.35, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.98, 1.86), with the strongest association for the highest level of exposure (OR = 2.01, 95% CI 1.31, 3.09). Analysis by duration suggested a nonlinear association Risk was increased for both short duration (24 years; OR = 1.88; 95% CI 1.05, 3.36) in a job with high level of electric shock exposure, with less pronounced associations for intermediate durations. To investigate the accuracy of the Social and Emotional Assessment-short version (Mini-SEA) to differentiate subgroups of behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) defined according to executive performance. bvFTD (n=21), AD (n=20), and healthy controls (HC, n=23) underwent the Mini-SEA, comprising the Facial Emotion Recognition Test (FERT) and the faux-pas test. AD and bvFTD patients were classified according to their performance in the Frontal Assessment Battery into dysexecutive and nondysexecutive subgroups. The area under the curve (AUC) values for the faux-pas test were 0.87 (dysexecutive-bvFTD vs. dysexecutive-AD) and 0.96 (non-dysexecutive-bvFTD vs. nondysexecutive-AD). The AUC values for FERT were 0.99 (dysexecutive-bvFTD vs. dysexecutive-AD) and 0.65 (nondysexecutive-bvFTD vs. nondysexecutive-AD); the AUC values for the Mini-SEA (total-score) were 0.95 (dysexecutive-bvFTD vs. dysexecutive-AD) and 0.88 (nondysexecutive-bvFTD vs. nondysexecutive-AD). Herein, a strategy for the preparation of solar-thermal poly (4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) nanofiber-gold nanoparticle (Au NP) composite film (PGCF) is reported. Combining with the flexible and lightweight P4VP nanofibers, these absorbed Au NPs enable better solar-thermal conversion efficiency. Accordingly, the PGCF provides high-performance interfacial solar-driven steam generation, with 77% solar-heat conversion efficiency under the power density of 3.4 kW m-2 , which shows stable output (3.4 kg m-2 h-1 ) in the application of solar-driven seawater desalination. In addition, PGCF is light in weight, flexible, and suitable for scalable commercial production, enabling PGCF broad application prospects in the field of light-to-heat conversion.
Existing research explores Parole Board decision-making, but not specifically for perpetrators of intimate partner violence (IPV), a special case due to the gendered and secretive nature of IPV and the role of control in predicting reoffending.
To identify associations between case variables in England and Wales Parole Board decisions regarding perpetrators of IPV and explore how these variables help construct the decision.
Logistic regressions regarding decisions in a sample of all 137 male prisoners who had abused women and applied for release or progression to open conditions in England and Wales from April 2018 to September 2019, developed into latent class analyses. Thematic analyses of six interviews with Parole Board members about decision-making in IPV cases.
Release decisions were strongly predicted by the recommendations of offender managers, offender supervisors and psychologists, mediated by the Parole Board's confidence in their ability. Decisions were also significantly associated with cooking to understand parole decisions about their abuser.
We investigated a periauricular approach to the parotid and compared outcomes to alternative parotidectomy incisions.
Retrospective chart review of patients (n = 97) undergoing partial parotidectomy for benign or malignant pathology by a single surgeon. After October 2017, most patients were approached via a periauricular incision (n = 59).
There was no significant difference in patient age, tumor location, length of hospital stay, postoperative complication, or pathology. Mean tumor diameter was significantly smaller in the periauricular group (2.1 cm) than in the traditional incision group (2.6 cm). No permanent injuries to facial nerve branches occurred in either group. Patients were followed for a median of 44 days after surgery.

Graphical abstract.BACKGROUND Polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAAG) was once used as an important injection for breast augmentation though it has been banned in China for more than 10 years. Secondary breast deformity after removing PAAG poses a challenging problem. The aim of this article is to introduce types of breast deformity induced by two types of PAAG based on MRI examination and corresponding treatment strategies. METHODS From 2008 to 2017, 300 patients with the history of injectable PAAG were reviewed. From their medical history, two types of PAAG injections were imported Interfall and domestic Amazingel, 182 patients received Interfall injection and 118 patients received Amazingel injection. MRI was used as a regular examination preoperatively. According to MRI examinations, breast deformities were classified into nodular type, flow type and mixed type. RESULTS All of them underwent PAAG removal operations. In the 182 patients with Interfall injection There were only 5 cases of nodular type, 3 cases received immediate breas, and none of cases received immediate breast augmentation . CONCLUSIONS Breast deformity induced by two types of PAAG can be classified into three types based on MRI examinations, which is very critical for preoperative evaluation and classification. Each type of deformity has its own characteristics, which serves as a guide for whether a first-stage or a second-stage prosthesis implant can be implemented. The proportion of patients who can have breast augmentation in the first or second phase after injection of Interfall is significantly higher than that of patients who have injections of Amazingel. One hundred forty-nine consecutive patients seen in our ACHD program were screened for OSA using the Berlin Questionnaire. Demographic and clinical details on subjects were collected through a chart review. Clinical variables were analyzed to determine risk factors for positive OSA screen, as well as associated outcomes. Seventy-seven (52%) of our cohort were females. The median age of the cohort was 33 years (range = 18-74) and median weight was 79 kg (range = 50-145 kg). Overall, 47 (31%) of our cohort were found to have a positive OSA screen using the Berlin questionnaire. Median age of the patients whom tested positive was 34 years. Compared to patients with a negative screen, patients with a positive OSA screen were more likely to be heavier with a median weight of 99 kg vs 71 kg (p 30) compared to 15% in the negative group (p less then 0.02). Patients with a positive screen were more likely to have other co-morbidities including diabetes (p less then 0.04), hypertension (p less then 0.05), depression (p less then 0.002), and were more likely to have decreased exercise capacity (p less then 0.01) and a defibrillator (p less then 0.007). Our data demonstrates that OSA is common in the ACHD patient and is associated with increasing weight and BMI. Patients with a positive screen are at increased risk for multiple co morbidities including diabetes, hypertension, and depression. The NTZ+AgNPs was synthesized and subsequently characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-visible absorption Spectra (UV-VIS), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectra. Twenty male albino rats were divided into 5 groups. Groups I, II, III, and IV were treated with DEC, AgNPs, NTZ, and NTZ+AgNPs, while group V was taken as untreated infected control. After the establishment of infection, microfilaraemic rats were treated with aforesaid drugs for 6 days at 100 mg/kg body weight. Efficacy of drugs was observed by counting the microfilariae in the blood of albino rats every 3rd day till microfilariae disappeared. Blood was taken at every 10 days interval till 40 days for biochemical studies to assess the level of antioxidant enzymes.

The function of CDAN1 is poorly understood but it is thought to regulate histone incorporation into nascent DNA during cellular replication. The study of CDA-1 has been limited by the lack of in vitro models that recapitulate key features of the disease, and most studies on CDAN1 function have been done in nonerythroid cells. A practical approach to demonstrate the CM involves the direct measurement of photocurrent in the device. Specifically, photocurrent measurement in quantum dots (QDs) is typically limited by high contact resistance and long carrier-transfer length, which yields a low CM conversion efficiency and high CM threshold energy. Here, the local photocurrent is measured to evaluate the CM quantum efficiency from a QD-attached Au tip of a conductive atomic force microscope (CAFM) system. The photocurrent is efficiently measured between the PbS QDs anchored on a Au tip and a graphene layer on a SiO2 /Si substrate as a counter electrode, yielding an extremely short channel length that reduces the contact resistance. The quantum efficiency extracted from the local photocurrent data with an incident photon energy exhibits a step-like behavior. More importantly, the CM threshold energy is as low as twice the bandgap, which is the lowest threshold energy of optically observed QDs to date. METHODS Prospective observational study. Feces from 6 asthmatic and 6 healthy horses were collected under 3 different conditions on pasture, housed indoors receiving good quality hay ("good hay"), and housed indoors receiving poor quality hay ("dusty hay"). Sequencing was performed using an Illumina MiSeq platform and data were processed using the software mothur v.1.41.3 and LEfSe. RESULTS In horses with asthma, low-abundance bacteria were more affected by changes in environment and diet (ie, when horses were experiencing an exacerbation), as shown by changes in membership and results from the LEfSe analysis. There was a significant increase in the relative abundance of Fibrobacter in healthy horses eating hay, a change that was not observed in horses with asthma. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE The intestinal microbiota of horses with asthma does not adapt in the same way to changes in diet and environment compared to the microbiota of healthy horses. Mechanisms explaining how airway obstruction and inflammation could influence the intestinal microbiota and how in turn this microbiota could modulate systemic inflammation in asthmatic horses deserves further investigation. © 2020 The Authors. She eventually expired due to status epilepticus and subsequent significant respiratory complications. In the central nervous system, there was generalized brain atrophy, and patchy labeling of blood vessels by antibodies to complement component 4d (C4d) and membrane attack complex. Innumerable small patches with loss of cell bodies (neurons and glial cells in gray matter and glial cells in white matter) and demyelination were scattered throughout the brain and spinal cord. There was no cavitation and the passing axons were mostly preserved. Large solid calcified foci were present predominantly in the pons along with disseminated focal calcification involving neuron cell bodies, neurites, and capillaries.
