    Despite recent significant progress in the development of automatic sleep staging methods, building a good model still remains a big challenge for sleep studies with a small cohort due to the data-variability and data-inefficiency issues. This work presents a deep transfer learning approach to overcome these issues and enable transferring knowledge from a large dataset to a small cohort for automatic sleep staging.

In this report, we use hierarchical clustering of the ileal transcriptomes of 34 patients and identify two CD subsets. Clinically, these clusters differed in the age of the patients at CD diagnosis, suggesting that age of onset affects disease pathophysiology. Methods Global circRNA expression Profiles for ULM was performed by microarray in ULM tissue and matched adjacent normal myometrium counterpart. Bioinformatics analysis, qRT-PCR validation, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) diagnostic accuracy was applied for differentially expressed circRNAs. Cell proliferation and spheroid formation assay were performed to assess the functional role of candidate circRNA. Results 579 up- and 625 down-regulated circRNAs were identified between ULMs and adjacent normal myometrium tissues. Bioinformatics analysis suggested that most differentially expressed circRNAs participate in pathways were related to pathological processes of ULM. The qRT-PCR validation results for 6 circRNAs (hsa_circ_0083920, hsa_circ_0056686, hsa_circ_0062558, hsa_circ_0020376, hsa_circ_0043597, hsa_circ_0026353, and circ_0017248) matched the microarray results. ROC analysis showed that hsa_circ_0083920, hsa_circ_0056686, hsa_circ_0062558, hsa_circ_0020376, and hsa_circ_0043597 could accurately distinguish the ULM samples from the myometrium samples. Additionally, hsa_circ_0056686 was validated to be upregulated in ULM and was associated with the leiomyoma size (P = 0.0446). Reduction of endogenous hsa_circ_0056686 expression significantly suppressed leiomyoma cell proliferation and spheroid formation capacity. Conclusions This study provides an integrated analysis of circRNAs in ULM, and gives new insight into the complex epigenetic mechanisms of ULM. We also explore how synthetic biology can be applied to develop metabolically optimized PSM-producing native and heterologous PCSC systems. Our findings suggest that M. mystacinus and M. davidii evolved in allopatry and came into secondary contact during range expansions. Individuals in the area of secondary contact, in Anatolia and the Balkans, have discordant population assignments based on the mitochondrial and the nuclear datasets. These observed patterns suggest that the local M. mystacinus populations hybridized with expanding M. davidii populations, which resulted in mitochondrial introgression from the former. In the introgression area, M. mystacinus individuals with concordant nuclear and mitochondrial genotypes were identified in relatively few locations, suggesting that the indigenous populations might have been largely replaced by invading M. davidii. Changing environmental conditions coupled with ecological competition is the likely reason for this replacement. Carcass sites can increase species interactions and/or ephemeral, localized landscapes of fear for prey within the vicinity. Few studies have applied the landscape of fear to carcasses. Here, we use a mass die-off of reindeer caused by lightning in Norway to test whether rodents avoided larger scavengers (e.g. corvids and fox). We used the presence and abundance of faeces as a proxy for carcass use over the course of 2 years and found that rodents showed the strongest avoidance towards changes in raven abundance (β = -0.469, s.e. = 0.231, p-value = 0.0429), but not fox, presumably due to greater predation risk imposed by large droves of raven. Moreover, the emergence of rodent occurrence within the carcass area corresponded well with the disappearance of raven during the second year of the study. We suggest that carcasses have the potential to shape the landscape of fear for prey, but that the overall effects of carcasses on individual fitness and populations of species ultimately depend on the carcass regime, e.g. carcass size, count, and areal extent, frequency and the scavenger guild. By contrast, we first model 3D structures of proteins as protein structure networks (PSNs). Then, we use network-based features for PSC. We propose the use of graphlets, state-of-the-art features in many research areas of network science, in the task of PSC. Moreover, because graphlets can deal only with unweighted PSNs, and because accounting for edge weights when constructing PSNs could improve PSC accuracy, we also propose a deep learning framework that automatically learns network features from weighted PSNs. When evaluated on a large set of approximately 9400 CATH and approximately 12 800 SCOP protein domains (spanning 36 PSN sets), the best of our proposed approaches are superior to existing PSC approaches in terms of accuracy, with comparable running times. In this study, we present the multilocus phylogeography of two cryptic whiskered bat species, Myotis mystacinus and M. davidii, with a particular focus on their putative sympatric zone. Our findings suggest that M. mystacinus and M. davidii evolved in allopatry and came into secondary contact during range expansions. Individuals in the area of secondary contact, in Anatolia and the Balkans, have discordant population assignments based on the mitochondrial and the nuclear datasets. These observed patterns suggest that the local M. mystacinus populations hybridized with expanding M. davidii populations, which resulted in mitochondrial introgression from the former. In the introgression area, M. mystacinus individuals with concordant nuclear and mitochondrial genotypes were identified in relatively few locations, suggesting that the indigenous populations might have been largely replaced by invading M. davidii. Changing environmental conditions coupled with ecological competition is the likely reason for this replacement. Our study presents one possible example of a historical population replacement that was captured in phylogeographic patterns.Logistic regression (LR) and support vector machine algorithms, together with linear and nonlinear deep neural networks (DNNs), are applied to lending data in order to replicate lender acceptance of loans and predict the likelihood of default of issued loans. A two-phase model is proposed; the first phase predicts loan rejection, while the second one predicts default risk for approved loans. LR was found to be the best performer for the first phase, with test set recall macro score of 77.4 % . DNNs were applied to the second phase only, where they achieved best performance, with test set recall score of 72 % , for defaults. This shows that artificial intelligence can improve current credit risk models reducing the default risk of issued loans by as much as 70 % . The models were also applied to loans taken for small businesses alone. The first phase of the model performs significantly better when trained on the whole dataset. Instead, the second phase performs significantly better when trained on the small business subset. This suggests a potential discrepancy between how these loans are screened and how they should be analysed in terms of default prediction.Animal carcasses provide an ephemeral pulse of nutrients for scavengers that use them. Carcass sites can increase species interactions and/or ephemeral, localized landscapes of fear for prey within the vicinity. Few studies have applied the landscape of fear to carcasses. Here, we use a mass die-off of reindeer caused by lightning in Norway to test whether rodents avoided larger scavengers (e.g. corvids and fox). We used the presence and abundance of faeces as a proxy for carcass use over the course of 2 years and found that rodents showed the strongest avoidance towards changes in raven abundance (β = -0.469, s.e. = 0.231, p-value = 0.0429), but not fox, presumably due to greater predation risk imposed by large droves of raven. Moreover, the emergence of rodent occurrence within the carcass area corresponded well with the disappearance of raven during the second year of the study. We suggest that carcasses have the potential to shape the landscape of fear for prey, but that the overall effects of carcasses on individual fitness and populations of species ultimately depend on the carcass regime, e.g. carcass size, count, and areal extent, frequency and the scavenger guild.   • An impressive clinical success has been observed in treating a variety of cancers using immunotherapy with programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) checkpoint blockade. However, limited response in most patients treated with anti-PD-1 antibodies remains a challenge, requiring better understanding of molecular mechanisms limiting immunotherapy. In colorectal cancer (CRC) resistant to immunotherapy, mismatch-repair-proficient or microsatellite instability-low (pMMR-MSI-L) tumors have low mutation burden and constitute ~85% of patients. Here, we show that inhibition of N6 -methyladenosine (m6 A) mRNA modification by depletion of methyltransferases, Mettl3 and Mettl14, enhanced response to anti-PD-1 treatment in pMMR-MSI-L CRC and melanoma. Mettl3- or Mettl14-deficient tumors increased cytotoxic tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T cells and elevated secretion of IFN-γ, Cxcl9, and Cxcl10 in tumor microenvironment in vivo. Mechanistically, Mettl3 or Mettl14 loss promoted IFN-γ-Stat1-Irf1 signaling through stabilizing the Stat1 and Irf1 mRNA via Ythdf2. Finally, we found a negative correlation between METTL3 or METTL14 and STAT1 in 59 patients with pMMR-MSI-L CRC tumors. Altogether, our findings uncover a new awareness of the function of RNA methylation in adaptive immunity and provide METTL3 and METTL14 as potential therapeutic targets in anticancer immunotherapy.
    Pediatric endoscopic pilonidal sinus treatment (PEPSiT) has become the new standard of care for pilonidal sinus disease (PSD) in pediatric patients. This study aimed to compare our current wound treatment protocol (laser epilation (LE) and oxygen-enriched oil-based gel dressing) with our previous protocol (silver sulfadiazine spray) and demonstrate its efficacy as means to prevent PSD recurrence in children undergoing PEPSiT.

    We retrospectively reviewed the data of 87 pediatric patients, 52 boys and 35 girls, with an average age of 17.1 years (range, 12-18) affected by chronic PSD, who underwent PEPSiT over a 24-month period (December 2017-December 2019). The patients were divided into two groups G1 (n = 47) treated with pre- and postoperative LE and oxygen-enriched oil-based gel dressing; and G2 (n = 40) treated with only postoperative dressing using silver sulfadiazine spray. The two groups were compared regarding the operative outcome, wound-healing time, disease recurrence, wound infections, and otherat our standardized pre- and postoperative wound management, including LE and oxygen-enriched oil-based gel dressing, was extremely safe and effective in reducing PSD recurrence and wound infection rate in pediatric patients undergoing PEPSiT. LE should be routinely offered as adjunctive treatment to all patients who receive PEPSiT and is strongly advocated to be started before surgery and continued after wound healing. More importantly, LE showed to have a role as a preventive modality in patients with recurrent folliculitis or infections at the intergluteal crease. It was also associated with significant improvement and acceleration of wound-healing time. LE and oxygen-enriched oil-based gel dressings were clinically safe and well-tolerated in all patients, with no adverse skin reactions or injuries to both therapies. Lasers Surg. We used a genome-wide association (GWAS) approach to discover genetic variants associated with CAAD in participants in the electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Network. We identified adult CAAD cases with unilateral or bilateral carotid artery stenosis and controls without evidence of stenosis from electronic health records at eight eMERGE sites. We performed GWAS with a model adjusting for age, sex, study site, and genetic principal components of ancestry. In eMERGE we found 1793 CAAD cases and 17,958 controls. Two loci reached genome-wide significance, on chr6 in LPA (rs10455872, odds ratio [OR] (95% confidence interval [CI]) = 1.50 (1.30-1.73), p = 2.1 × 10-8 ) and on chr7, an intergenic single nucleotide variant (SNV; rs6952610, OR (95% CI) = 1.25 (1.16-1.36), p = 4.3 × 10-8 ). The chr7 association remained significant in the presence of the LPA SNV as a covariate. The LPA SNV was also associated with coronary heart disease (CHD; 4199 cases and 11,679 controls) in this study (OR (95% CI) = 1.27 (1.13-1.43), p = 5 × 10-5 ) but the chr7 SNV was not (OR (95% CI) = 1.03 (0.97-1.09), p = .37). Both variants replicated in UK Biobank. Elevated lipoprotein(a) concentrations ([Lp(a)]) and LPA variants associated with elevated [Lp(a)] have previously been associated with CAAD and CHD, including rs10455872.   • The research, completed in 2017, involved mapping and identification of key disability concepts for inclusion in new questions, focus groups to refine wording of new questions, and online surveys of employees evaluating two potential new question sets on the topic of disability and environment. Recommendations for new disability-related questions and possible new data collection processes are being considered and used by the leading state authority.Extraction solvent is a very important factor in the recovery of antioxidants from natural matrices. In this study, the effect of three solvents (ethanol, ethanol/water and water) on the phenolic composition, antioxidant and anti-cholinesterase activities and electrochemical behaviour of four winemaking byproducts (seeds, skins, stems, and pomace) was evaluated. Phenolic composition was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), antioxidant activity by the capacity to scavenge 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and hydroxyl radicals, anti-cholinesterase activity by the Ellman's method, and electrochemical behaviour by cyclic voltammetry. Eight phenolic compounds were quantified with higher content in water/ethanol extracts (e.g., epicatechin in pomace 17 mg/100 g vs. 7 and 6 mg/100 g in ethanol and water extracts, respectively), although there were some exceptions (e.g., gallic acid in seeds was most abundant in water extracts). Moreover, the highest total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activity were found in ethanol/water extracts (between 2 and 30-fold the values of the other extracts). Overall, the most active extracts in inhibiting both acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) enzymes were ethanol/water and ethanol extracts from seeds (between 31.11 and 53.90%). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Rapamycin.html The electrochemical behaviour allowed for differentiating the extracts depending on the solvent and the byproduct. The aim was to explore the meaning of surviving three years after a heart transplant compared to one year and to identify what constitutes the change process. A phenomenological-hermeneutic method was used. This multicenter study was carried out at the two hospitals in Sweden where heart transplants are performed. A total of 13 heart recipients who survived three years after a heart transplant were invited to participate in this three-year follow-up study and 12 accepted, 3 women and 9 men, with a mean age of 51.25 years. The naïve understanding revealed that the heart recipients strongly accepted their life situation and that time had enabled this acceptance of limitations through adaptation. The thematic structural analyses cover six themes illustrating the meaning of acceptance and adaptation, i.e., accepting life as it is, adapting to post-transplant limitations, adapting to a changed body, social adaptation, showing gratitude and trusting oneself and others. Some techniques have been explored in the literature, but in this field of application, high accuracy can be reached if a large amount of sensor data and/or a high-fidelity numerical model is available. This paper applies the Kalman filtering technique to rotor load estimation. The nature of the filter allows the usage of a minimum set of sensors. The compensation of a low-fidelity model is also possible by accounting for sensors and model uncertainties. The efficiency of the filter for state and load estimation on a rotating blade is tested in this contribution, considering two different sources of uncertainties on a coupled multibody-aerodynamic model. Numerical results show an accurate state reconstruction with respect to the selected sensor layout. The aerodynamic loads are accurately evaluated in post-processing.Recent approaches to time series forecasting, especially forecasting spatiotemporal sequences, have leveraged the approximation power of deep neural networks to model the complexity of such sequences, specifically approaches that are based on recurrent neural networks. Still, as spatiotemporal sequences that arise in the real world are noisy and chaotic, modeling approaches that utilize probabilistic temporal models, such as deep Markov models (DMMs), are favorable because of their ability to model uncertainty, increasing their robustness to noise. However, approaches based on DMMs do not maintain the spatial characteristics of spatiotemporal sequences, with most of the approaches converting the observed input into 1D data halfway through the model. To solve this, we propose a model that retains the spatial aspect of the target sequence with a DMM that consists of 2D convolutional neural networks. We then show the robustness of our method to data with large variance compared with naive forecast, vanilla DMM, and convolutional long short-term memory (LSTM) using synthetic data, even outperforming the DNN models over a longer forecast period. We also point out the limitations of our model when forecasting real-world precipitation data and the possible future work that can be done to address these limitations, along with additional future research potential.

Our findings indicate that winemaking byproducts represent a source of phenolic compounds with antioxidant and anti-cholinesterase activities and suggest that cyclic voltammetry is a promising technique to evaluate the phenolic extraction process from these byproducts.The rationale was to longitudinally follow-up interviews performed with heart recipients at their one-year examination in order to deepen the understanding of the meaning of surviving a heart transplant. The aim was to explore the meaning of surviving three years after a heart transplant compared to one year and to identify what constitutes the change process. A phenomenological-hermeneutic method was used. This multicenter study was carried out at the two hospitals in Sweden where heart transplants are performed. A total of 13 heart recipients who survived three years after a heart transplant were invited to participate in this three-year follow-up study and 12 accepted, 3 women and 9 men, with a mean age of 51.25 years. The naïve understanding revealed that the heart recipients strongly accepted their life situation and that time had enabled this acceptance of limitations through adaptation. The thematic structural analyses cover six themes illustrating the meaning of acceptance and adaptation, i.e., accepting life as it is, adapting to post-transplant limitations, adapting to a changed body, social adaptation, showing gratitude and trusting oneself and others. Some techniques have been explored in the literature, but in this field of application, high accuracy can be reached if a large amount of sensor data and/or a high-fidelity numerical model is available. This paper applies the Kalman filtering technique to rotor load estimation. The nature of the filter allows the usage of a minimum set of sensors. The compensation of a low-fidelity model is also possible by accounting for sensors and model uncertainties. The efficiency of the filter for state and load estimation on a rotating blade is tested in this contribution, considering two different sources of uncertainties on a coupled multibody-aerodynamic model. Numerical results show an accurate state reconstruction with respect to the selected sensor layout. The aerodynamic loads are accurately evaluated in post-processing.Recent approaches to time series forecasting, especially forecasting spatiotemporal sequences, have leveraged the approximation power of deep neural networks to model the complexity of such sequences, specifically approaches that are based on recurrent neural networks. Still, as spatiotemporal sequences that arise in the real world are noisy and chaotic, modeling approaches that utilize probabilistic temporal models, such as deep Markov models (DMMs), are favorable because of their ability to model uncertainty, increasing their robustness to noise. However, approaches based on DMMs do not maintain the spatial characteristics of spatiotemporal sequences, with most of the approaches converting the observed input into 1D data halfway through the model. To solve this, we propose a model that retains the spatial aspect of the target sequence with a DMM that consists of 2D convolutional neural networks. We then show the robustness of our method to data with large variance compared with naive forecast, vanilla DMM, and convolutional long short-term memory (LSTM) using synthetic data, even outperforming the DNN models over a longer forecast period. We also point out the limitations of our model when forecasting real-world precipitation data and the possible future work that can be done to address these limitations, along with additional future research potential.

  • Genetic deletion of cannabinoid CB1 receptors or diacylglycerol lipase alpha (DAGLa), the main enzyme involved in the synthesis of the endocannabinoid (eCB) 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), produced profound phenotypes in animal models of depression-related behaviors. Furthermore, clinical studies have shown that antagonists of CB1 can increase the incidence and severity of major depressive episodes. However, the underlying pathomechanisms are largely unknown. In this study, we have focused on the possible involvement of astrocytes. Using the highly sensitive RNAscope technology, we show for the first time that a subpopulation of astrocytes in the adult mouse brain expresses Dagla, albeit at low levels. Targeted lipidomics revealed that astrocytic DAGLa only accounts for a minor percentage of the steady-state brain 2-AG levels and other arachidonic acid derived lipids like prostaglandins. Nevertheless, the deletion of Dagla in adult mouse astrocytes had profound behavioral consequences with significantly increased depressive-like behavioral responses and striking effects on maternal behavior, corresponding with increased levels of serum progesterone and estradiol. Our findings therefore indicate that lipids from the DAGLa metabolic axis in astrocytes play a key regulatory role in affective behaviors.

Patients who had undergone at least 1year of follow-up after root canal treatment were recalled, and their genomic DNA was extracted from saliva. Two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in DEFB1 at the g. -52G>A (rs1799946) and g. -20G>A (rs11362) positions were analysed using real-time polymerase chain reaction. The chi-squared test was performed, and the odds ratios were calculated using Epi Info 3.5.2. Logistic regression analysis in the codominant model, using the time of follow-up as a variable, was used to evaluate the SNP-SNP interaction. All tests were performed with an established alpha of 0.05 (P=0.05).

    For the rs11362 polymorphism in the codominant and recessive models, patients who carried two copies of the T allele had a significantly lower risk of developing PAP (P=0.040 and P=0.031, respectively). For the rs1799946 polymorphism in DEFB1 in the codominant and recessive models, carrying one copy of the T allele significantly increased the risk of developing PAP (P=0.007 and P=0.031, respectively).     Using health administrative databases linked to the Canadian Community Health Survey, we conducted a population-based cohort study of children aged <18 years from Ontario, Canada. Children without diabetes who had a household response to the Canadian Community Health Survey Household Food Security Survey Module were followed for a median of 9.5 years for incident diabetes. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to examine the association between childhood food insecurity and incident diabetes, adjusted sequentially for important clinical and socio-economic risk factors.

    We included 34 042 children, of whom 5.3% lived in food-insecure households. There were 184 new cases of diabetes, diagnosed at a median age of 16 and 18.5 years in food-secure and food-insecure children, respectively. In unadjusted analysis, childhood food insecurity was associated with an increased risk of incident diabetes (hazard ratio 1.69, 95% CI 1.01 to 2.81). When adjusted for clinical and socio-economic confounders, the relationship was no longer statistically significant (hazard ratio 1.55, 95% CI 0.91 to 2.66, adjusted for clinical confounders; hazard ratio 1.30, 95% CI 0.72 to 2.37, adjusted for clinical/socio-economic confounders). Our results remained robust in sensitivity analyses.

    Few studies have assessed the role of vitamin D in the association between cardiovascular risk factors and cognitive function. Here, the aim was to investigate the association between cardiovascular health (CVH) and cognitive function according to vitamin D level in a middle-aged Korean population.

    This cross-sectional study included 840 men and 1811 women (mean age 57.2years) from the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Etiology Research Center study baseline enrolment (2013-2018). Life's Simple 7 tools from the American Heart Association were used to assess CVH. Cognitive function was evaluated using the Mini-Mental State Estimation for Dementia Screening (MMSE-DS), and the serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D level was measured.

    In the adjusted generalized linear regression models, no significant association between a high Life's Simple 7 score (4-7 metric at optimal level) and MMSE-DS score (β=0.01, P=0.93) was found. Amongst men with a high vitamin D level, the high Life's Simple 7 score group showed a significantly higher MMSE-DS score (β=0.48, P=0.03).   • The National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) and National Readmissions Database (NRD) are two widely used databases for research studies. However, they may not provide generalizable information in regard to individual institutions. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate 30-day readmissions following anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and posterior lumbar fusion (PLF) procedures by using these two national databases and an institutional cohort.

    Records of patients undergoing cervical decompressive surgery for spondylosis, disc herniation, or ossification of the longitudinal ligament, including the C4-5 level, were reviewed from a 15-year period, identifying C5 palsy cases. Data collected included age, sex, diabetes and smoking statuses, body mass index, surgical levels, approach, presence of increased cord signal intensity, and modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (mJOA) scores.   • Tricuspid valve regurgitation is usually progressive and associated with reduced long-term survival. International guidelines recommend surgery in cases of isolated severe regurgitation associated with symptoms or progressive worsening of right ventricular function. In addition, several percutaneous strategies have been reported with promising results in the last decade. The aim of the present review is to summarize the current state of the art in the management of isolated functional or degenerative tricuspid valve insufficiency, from the preoperative assessment to the results of both surgical and transcatheter approaches and explore future directions.AIMS The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of remote monitoring in Italian clinical practice and its trend over the last 5 years. METHODS In 2012 and 2017, two surveys were conducted. Both were open to all Italian implanting centres and consisted of 25 questions on the characteristics of the centre, their actual use of remote monitoring, applied organizational models and administrative and legal aspects. RESULTS The questionnaires were completed by 132 and 108 centres in 2012 and 2017, respectively (30.6 and 24.7% of all Italian implanting centres). In 2017, significantly fewer centres followed up fewer than 200 patients by remote monitoring than in 2012, while more followed up more than 500 patients (all Pā€Š less then ā€Š0.005). In most of the centres (77.6%) that responded to both surveys, the number of patients remotely monitored significantly increased from 2012 to 2017.In both surveys, remote monitoring was usually managed by physicians and nurses. Over the period, primary review of transmissions by physicians declined, while it was increasingly performed by nurses; the involvement of technicians rose, while that of manufacturers' technical personnel decreased. The percentage of centres in which transmissions were submitted to the physician only in critical cases rose (from 28.3 to 64.3%; Pā€Š less then ā€Š0.001). In 86.7% of centres, the lack of a reimbursement system was deemed the main barrier to implementing remote monitoring. CONCLUSION In the last 5 years, the number of patients followed up by remote monitoring has increased markedly. In most Italian centres, remote monitoring has increasingly been managed through a primary nursing model. Results from some studies identified nine risk factors, including low consumption of fruits and vegetables, smoking, alcohol, diabetes, psychosocial factors, sedentary lifestyle, abdominal obesity, hypertension and dyslipidemia as the cause of myocardial infarction in 90% of the patients in this population. Recent large genome-wide association studies have discovered the association of several novel genetic loci with *** in South Asians. Nonetheless, continued scientific efforts are required to further our understanding of the causal risk factors of *** in South Asians to address the rising burden of CVD in this vulnerable population. Furthermore, although glycemic control may prevent or slow nephropathy, recent developments demonstrate that dyslipidemia can also affect kidney outcomes in normoglycemic patients. Transcriptomic, epigenomic, and lipidomic investigations, as well as integrative approaches, are shedding light on potential pathomechanisms. These molecular studies are identifying possible targets for therapeutic intervention. Complementing molecular research, lifestyle interventions are on-going to assess whether dietary choices and/or exercise, weight-loss, or surgical interventions, such as bariatric surgery, can ameliorate peripheral neuropathy and nephropathy in T2D patients.

However, there are still some problems with GANs, such as model collapse and uncontrollable training. This paper deeply reviews the theoretical basis of GANs and surveys some recently developed GAN models, in comparison with traditional GAN models. The applications of GANs in computer vision include data enhancement, domain transfer, high-quality sample generation, and image restoration. The latest research progress of GANs in artificial intelligence (AI) based security attack and defense is introduced. The future development of GANs in computer vision is also discussed at the end of the paper with possible applications of AI in computer vision.Exposure to radioactivity inside homes potentially poses severe health risks which can be exacerbated by the interaction between radioactive particles and fine indoor particles; in particular, the presence of α particles are a key risk factor. Hence, in this study, particle radioactivity was concurrently measured in the family rooms and basements of 26 homes to assess its concentrations and identify its sources, both indoors and outdoors, across two seasons. The levels of radon, air ions, and particle radioactivity, which included short- and long-lived α-activity (SLA and LLA, respectively), varied greatly but were substantially higher in the basements. Also, particle radioactivity-as well as PM2.5 and sulfur concentrations-were lower during the heating season. SLA was associated with radon, which was consistently of indoor origin, whereas LLA was more strongly related to the sulfur measured in indoor PM2.5, which is a proxy of outdoor infiltration. A regression model adjusted for sulfur and SLA also indicated a predominance of outdoor sources, likely due to the short residence time of indoor particles. Our results suggest that radiation in homes originates from both the decay of indoor radon and the infiltration of outdoor radioactivity.
    Ovarian masses are common findings in general gynecology. However giant ovarian mass is a rare finding. In the literature, a few cases of giant ovarian mass have been mentioned sporadically, especially in elderly patients.

    We report a 68-year-old postmenopausal woman with a giant right ovarian mass measuring 38 × 31 × 29 cm. She presented to our department with complaints of massive abdominal distention which started gradually 6 months ago. The patient also complained of difficulty in breathing and ambulation. There were no other gastrointestinal, urinary, or gynecological symptoms CA-125 marker was slightly elevated. Because of elevation of serum CA-125 levels, ovarian malignancy was included in differential diagnosis. We performed an ovarian cystectomy without any significant complication. On histopathological examination, the mass was confirmed as benign serous cystadenoma of the right ovary.

Physicians must maintain heightened awareness and index of suspicion when approaching a woman with pain in any region of the abdomen or pelvis. The trans-vaginal ultrasound (TVS) done for the studied woman showed, well-defined solid mass, measuring 10 × 8 cm related to the anterior uterine wall most probably subserous uterine leiomyoma or ovarian fibroma. The TVS finding of left solid mass was confirmed by the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). At laparotomy, the solid mass was originating from the left ovary and the right ovary and uterus were completely normal. The left ovarian mass excised (confirmed as ovarian fibroma by histological examination), and more than half of the left ovary was preserved during surgery. The pre-operative ovarian reserve hormones, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH) were completely normal. Post-operative follow-up of the studied woman showed regular menstrual rhythm and duration, elevated FSH and LH for one year after surgery and both the FSH and LH returned to normal levels at the end of the first post-operative year. This report represents the finding of reversible decrease ovarian reserve (RDOR) after conservative ovarian surgery for benign lesion other than endometrioma to minimise normal ovarian tissue damage during surgery as **** as possible and to counsel women at risk of DOR that any ovarian surgery may be associated with further decrease in the ovarian reserve and reproductive ability.Postmenopause is a phase of life which leads physical and emotional instability from multiple health related issues. Practicing dental surgeons and general physician should be aware of the possible association of postmenopause and its various oral signs and symptoms in this midlife phase of women. It also focuses on its symptomatic management of various oral health issues. This article explains diverse oral conditions in detailed and their management. Stress causing anxiety and depression among this midlife phase of women can lead to alteration in immunity which can again lead to various oral conditions, like lichen planus, apthous ulcer that can cause burning sensation in oral mucosa and alter the food habit.
