Conclusion Strict protection at every step in the patient pathway is important to reduce the risk of cross-infection. Lessons learnt from our experience provide some recommendations of protective measures during the entire diagnosis and treatment process of traumatic patients and help others to manage orthopedic patients with COVID-19, to reduce the risk of cross-infection between patients and to protect healthcare workers during work. To place this therapeutic breakthrough in the context of the current MS therapeutic landscape, it is worthwhile taking a look **** at the development of antibody-mediated CD20 depletion, the studies underlying the approval of ocrelizumab and their open extension phases. Universal health coverage fundamentally requires protection from CHE, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Financial risk protection reports in LMICs covering surgical care are limited. We explored the relationship between financial risk protection and hospital admission among injured patients in Cameroon to understand the role of health insurance in addressing unmet need for surgery in LMICs. Methods The Cameroon National Trauma Registry, a database of all injured patients presenting to the emergency departments (ED) of three Cameroonian hospitals, was retrospectively reviewed between 2015 and 2017. Increased knowledge of risk factors for postpartum urinary retention could improve early identification of women at risk and lead to enhanced postpartum surveillance. We sought to identify intrapartum factors that contribute to postpartum urinary retention. Methods This retrospective case-control study compared subjects who developed postpartum urinary retention requiring indwelling catheterization after vaginal delivery to a control group who did not require catheterization. The control group was randomly selected in a 14 ratio. Continuous data were analyzed using a two-sample t-test and Mann-Whitney U test. Categorical data were analyzed using Fisher's exact test and two proportions test. Logistic regression was performed to identify variables independently associated with increased risk for development of postpartum urinary retention. Results A total of 5802 women who delivered vaginally met eligibility criteria with 38 women (0.65%) experiencing postpartum urinary retention. Logistic regression revealed that nulliparity, ≥ 2nd-degree obstetrical laceration, and intermittent catheterization during labor were independently associated with increased risk for postpartum urinary retention. Conclusion No single factor predicted development of postpartum urinary retention; however, a higher index of suspicion after vaginal delivery is warranted for nulliparous women, ≥ 2nd-degree obstetrical laceration, and if intermittent catheterization during labor was required.Introduction and hypothesis Concerns regarding the use of vaginal mesh for prolapse have led to questions about the safety and efficacy of abdominally placed mesh. Robust long-term safety and efficacy data for these procedures are essential. Methods All patients who had LSH or LSC since 2010 were invited **** for face-to-face review and examination. Case notes were reviewed for surgical morbidities and patients were questioned about short- and long-term complications. The Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I) scale was used to assess prolapse, bladder and bowel symptoms postoperatively. Results One hundred twelve patients were included in the review, 93 of whom were examined. The median time since surgery was 6 years (range 1-9 years); 2.7% cases had an intraoperative complication, two conversions to laparotomy and one bladder injury. Overall, 17.3% patients sought medical review postoperatively, with 10.7% having problems with their skin incisions. With regard to mesh safety, there was one case of bowel obstruction requiring resection following LSH and two vaginal mesh exposures following LSC; 97% had stage 1 or less apical prolapse at long-term follow-up and 79.6% reported symptoms of prolapse to be '**** better' or 'very **** better' on the PGI-I scale. Conclusions This study shows excellent long-term results from LSC and LSH with comprehensive follow-up, demonstrating a very low and acceptable level of intraoperative, short- and long-term complications.

Using CARMEN-Cas13, we developed a multiplexed assay that simultaneously differentiates all 169 human-associated viruses with ≥10 published genome sequences and rapidly incorporated an additional crRNA to detect the causative agent of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Fourth, we use this risk source model to statistically derive the geographic spread of COVID-19 and the growth pattern based on the population outflow from Wuhan; the model yields a benchmark trend and an index for assessing COVID-19 community transmission risk over time for different locations.   • Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes long-lasting inflammation and ulcers in the innermost lining of the colon and rectum. Previous studies demonstrated that resveratrol suppresses colitis and colon cancer associated with colitis by improving glucose metabolism, but resveratrol use is limited by its low oral bioavailability. Combretastatin-A4 phosphate (CA4P) is a vascular-disrupting agent with antitumor activity. CA4P is structurally similar to resveratrol, but whether CA4P has the same effect as resveratrol on UC is not clear. In this study, we examined the pharmacological effects of CA4P administration on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced inflammation in a mouse model of UC. C57BL/6 **** were administered 2.5% DSS in the drinking water to induce acute UC. CA4P (11 mg/kg/d) was injected intraperitoneally daily. The Disease Activity Index (DAI) score and histological score were evaluated to determine the severity of UC. Colon tissues and blood samples were collected for histological analyses. The results show that CA4P plus DSS significantly decreased colon length (P less then 0.05 versus DSS+PBS group) and body weight (P less then 0.001 versus PBS group), while increased spleen weight (P less then 0.01 versus DSS+PBS group), DAI score (P less then 0.01 versus DSS+PBS group), and histological score (P less then 0.01 versus DSS+PBS group). Moreover, CA4P exacerbated the pathological features of colitis and significantly increased proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α) and inflammatory cells (neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte). These findings reveal that CA4P aggravates the symptoms of DSS-induced UC and provide a key reference for the potential of CA4P as an anticancer drug. Valeriana jatamansi Jones ex Roxb (V. jatamansi) is used in the clinic for the treatment of depression, but there are insufficient reports of its antidepressive mechanisms and a poor understanding of its endogenous substance-related metabolism. The objective of this study was to identify biomarkers related to depression in serum samples and evaluate the antidepressive effects of the iridoid-rich fraction of V. jatamansi (IRFV) in a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) mouse model. Methods Here, CUMS was used to establish a mouse model of depression. Behavioral and biochemical indicators were investigated to evaluate the pharmacodynamic effects. A comprehensive serum metabolomics study by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) approach was applied to investigate the pharmacological mechanism of IRFV in CUMS mouse. Subsequently, we used multivariate statistical analysis to identify metabolic markers, such as principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal projection to latent structure with discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), to distinguish between the CUMS mouse and the control group. Results After IRFV treatment, the immobility time, sucrose preference, and monoamine neurotransmitter were improved. PCA scores showed clear differences in metabolism between the CUMS group and control group. The PLS-DA or OPLS-DA model exhibited 26 metabolites as biomarkers to distinguish between the CUMS **** and the control mouse. Moreover, IRFV could significantly return 21 metabolites to normal levels. Conclusion The results confirmed that IRFV exerted an antidepressive effect by regulating multiple metabolic pathways, including the tricarboxylic acid cycle, the synthesis of neurotransmitters, and amino acid metabolism. These findings provide insights into the antidepressive mechanisms of IRFV. In order to search for potentially novel anti-inflammatory agents, we examined Ganoderma (Lingzhi), a Chinese medicinal herbs known for its anti-inflammatory effects, and found that compound 18 (C18) derived from Ganoderma cochlear could limit the inflammatory response through FPR-related signaling pathways. Further studies showed that C18 could bind to FPR2 and induce conformation change of the receptor that differed from the conformational change induced by the pan-agonist, WKYMVm. C18 inhibited at the receptor level and blocked WKYMVm signaling through FPR2, resulting in reduced superoxide production and compromised cell chemotaxis. These results identified for the first time that a Ganoderma-derived component with inhibitory effects that acts through a G protein-coupled receptor FPR2. Considering its less than optimal IC50 value, further optimization of C18 would be necessary for future applications. The famous herbal medicine Yufeng Ningxin, which is used to treat cardiovascular diseases, can be legally produced only using P. montana var. lobata. However, precise identification at the subspecies level is usually challenging when these products' ingredients lose their morphological characteristics after deep processing. Here, six herbarium specimens, 21 expert-identified original plant samples, 30 raw material samples, 10 food products and 12 herbal products were collected to test the subspecies-level authentication abilities of ITS2 sequences. The results showed that ITS2 sequences can distinguish P. montana var. lobata from P. montana var. thomsonii with stable single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) sites. A total of 93.
    Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes long-lasting inflammation and ulcers in the innermost lining of the colon and rectum. Previous studies demonstrated that resveratrol suppresses colitis and colon cancer associated with colitis by improving glucose metabolism, but resveratrol use is limited by its low oral bioavailability. Combretastatin-A4 phosphate (CA4P) is a vascular-disrupting agent with antitumor activity. CA4P is structurally similar to resveratrol, but whether CA4P has the same effect as resveratrol on UC is not clear. In this study, we examined the pharmacological effects of CA4P administration on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced inflammation in a mouse model of UC. C57BL/6 mice were administered 2.5% DSS in the drinking water to induce acute UC. CA4P (11 mg/kg/d) was injected intraperitoneally daily. The Disease Activity Index (DAI) score and histological score were evaluated to determine the severity of UC. Colon tissues and blood samples were collected for histological analyses. The results show that CA4P plus DSS significantly decreased colon length (P less then 0.05 versus DSS+PBS group) and body weight (P less then 0.001 versus PBS group), while increased spleen weight (P less then 0.01 versus DSS+PBS group), DAI score (P less then 0.01 versus DSS+PBS group), and histological score (P less then 0.01 versus DSS+PBS group). Moreover, CA4P exacerbated the pathological features of colitis and significantly increased proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α) and inflammatory cells (neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte). These findings reveal that CA4P aggravates the symptoms of DSS-induced UC and provide a key reference for the potential of CA4P as an anticancer drug. Valeriana jatamansi Jones ex Roxb (V. jatamansi) is used in the clinic for the treatment of depression, but there are insufficient reports of its antidepressive mechanisms and a poor understanding of its endogenous substance-related metabolism. The objective of this study was to identify biomarkers related to depression in serum samples and evaluate the antidepressive effects of the iridoid-rich fraction of V. jatamansi (IRFV) in a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) mouse model. Methods Here, CUMS was used to establish a mouse model of depression. Behavioral and biochemical indicators were investigated to evaluate the pharmacodynamic effects. A comprehensive serum metabolomics study by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) approach was applied to investigate the pharmacological mechanism of IRFV in CUMS mouse. Subsequently, we used multivariate statistical analysis to identify metabolic markers, such as principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal projection to latent structure with discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), to distinguish between the CUMS mouse and the control group. Results After IRFV treatment, the immobility time, sucrose preference, and monoamine neurotransmitter were improved. PCA scores showed clear differences in metabolism between the CUMS group and control group. The PLS-DA or OPLS-DA model exhibited 26 metabolites as biomarkers to distinguish between the CUMS mice and the control mouse. Moreover, IRFV could significantly return 21 metabolites to normal levels. Conclusion The results confirmed that IRFV exerted an antidepressive effect by regulating multiple metabolic pathways, including the tricarboxylic acid cycle, the synthesis of neurotransmitters, and amino acid metabolism. These findings provide insights into the antidepressive mechanisms of IRFV. AIM To explore the value of lncRNA Rpph1 in esophageal cancer and its effect on cancer cell sensitivity to radiotherapy. METHODS Eighty-three patients with esophageal cancer admitted to Qilu Hospital of Shandong University and 90 healthy participants who received physical examinations were collected as research participants. The expression o expression led to higher sensitivity of esophageal cancer cells to radiotherapy, stronger apoptosis in esophageal cancer cells induced by radiotherapy, higher expression of Bax and caspase-3, and lower expression of Bcl-2 (Bax, caspase-3, and Bcl-2 are apoptosis-related proteins). Additionally, silencing Rpph1 attenuated radiation-induced G2/M phase arrest, and significantly inhibited the expression of proteins involved in cell proliferation, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition regulation in esophageal cancer cells. CONCLUSION Rpph1 is highly expressed in esophageal cancer.   • Empirical results demonstrate that using MTL to account for individual differences provides large performance improvements over traditional machine learning methods and provides personalized, actionable insights.Regulatory science comprises the tools, standards, and approaches that regulators use to assess safety, efficacy, quality, and performance of drugs and medical devices. A major focus of regulatory science is the design and analysis of clinical trials. Clinical trials are an essential part of clinical research programs that aim to improve therapies and reduce the burden of disease. These clinical experiments help us learn about what works clinically and what does not work. The results of clinical trials support therapeutic and policy decisions. When designing clinical trials, investigators make many decisions regarding various aspects of how they will carry out the study, such as the primary objective of the study, primary and secondary endpoints, methods of analysis, sample size, etc. This paper provides a brief review of the clinical development of new treatments and argues for the use of Bayesian methods and decision theory in clinical research.Recent advances in deep learning have achieved promising performance for medical image analysis, while in most cases ground-truth annotations from human experts are necessary to train the deep model. In practice, such annotations are expensive to collect and can be scarce for medical imaging applications. Therefore, there is significant interest in learning representations from unlabelled raw data. In this paper, we propose a self-supervised learning approach to learn meaningful and transferable representations from medical imaging video without any type of human annotation. We assume that in order to learn such a representation, the model should identify anatomical structures from the unlabelled data. Therefore we force the model to address anatomy-aware tasks with free supervision from the data itself. Specifically, the model is designed to correct the order of a reshuffled video clip and at the same time predict the geometric transformation applied to the video clip. Experiments on fetal ultrasound video show that the proposed approach can effectively learn meaningful and strong representations, which transfer well to downstream tasks like standard plane detection and saliency prediction.Anatomical landmarks are a crucial prerequisite for many medical imaging tasks. Usually, the set of landmarks for a given task is predefined by experts. The landmark locations for a given image are then annotated manually or via machine learning methods trained on manual annotations. In this paper, in contrast, we present a method to automatically discover and localize anatomical landmarks in medical images. Specifically, we consider landmarks that attract the visual attention of humans, which we term visually salient landmarks. We illustrate the method for fetal neurosonographic images. First, full-length clinical fetal ultrasound scans are recorded with live sonographer gaze-tracking. Next, a convolutional neural network (CNN) is trained to predict the gaze point distribution (saliency map) of the sonographers on scan video frames. The CNN is then used to predict saliency maps of unseen fetal neurosonographic images, and the landmarks are extracted as the local maxima of these saliency maps. Finally, the landmarks are matched across images by clustering the landmark CNN features. We show that the discovered landmarks can be used within affine image registration, with average landmark alignment errors between 4.1% and 10.9% of the fetal head long axis length.A relevant number of reports have examined the role of airborne signals in plant-plant communication, indicating that volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can prime neighboring plants against pathogen and/or herbivore attacks. Conversely, there is very limited information available on the possibility of the emission of VOCs by emitter plants under abiotic stress conditions, which may alert neighboring unstressed plants and prime these individuals (receivers) against the same stressors. The present opinion paper briefly reviews a few reports examining the effect of infochemicals produced by emitters on receiver plants subjected to abiotic stresses typical of global climate change. The ecological implications of these dynamics, as well as some concerns related to the potential roles of inter-plant communication in environmentally controlled experiments, have arisen. In this study, we used the electrical penetration graph (EPG) technique to monitor and quantify the different CLA feeding patterns on the maize JA-deficient 12-oxo-phytodienoic acid reductase (opr7opr8) plants. CLA feeding behavior was unaffected on B73, opr7opr8 control plants (- OPDA), and opr7opr8 plants that were pretreated with OPDA (+ OPDA). However, exogenous application of OPDA on opr7opr8 plants prolonged aphid salivation, a hallmark of aphids' ability to suppress the plant defense responses. Collectively, our results indicate that CLA utilizes its salivary secretions to suppress or unplug the OPDA-mediated sieve element occlusions in maize.We study the bias of the isotonic regression estimator. When designing clinical trials, investigators make many decisions regarding various aspects of how they will carry out the study, such as the primary objective of the study, primary and secondary endpoints, methods of analysis, sample size, etc. This paper provides a brief review of the clinical development of new treatments and argues for the use of Bayesian methods and decision theory in clinical research.Recent advances in deep learning have achieved promising performance for medical image analysis, while in most cases ground-truth annotations from human experts are necessary to train the deep model. In practice, such annotations are expensive to collect and can be scarce for medical imaging applications. Therefore, there is significant interest in learning representations from unlabelled raw data. In this paper, we propose a self-supervised learning approach to learn meaningful and transferable representations from medical imaging video without any type of human annotation. We assume that in order to learn such a representation, the model should identify anatomical structures from the unlabelled data. Therefore we force the model to address anatomy-aware tasks with free supervision from the data itself. Specifically, the model is designed to correct the order of a reshuffled video clip and at the same time predict the geometric transformation applied to the video clip. Experiments on fetal ultrasound video show that the proposed approach can effectively learn meaningful and strong representations, which transfer well to downstream tasks like standard plane detection and saliency prediction.Anatomical landmarks are a crucial prerequisite for many medical imaging tasks. Usually, the set of landmarks for a given task is predefined by experts. The landmark locations for a given image are then annotated manually or via machine learning methods trained on manual annotations. In this paper, in contrast, we present a method to automatically discover and localize anatomical landmarks in medical images. Specifically, we consider landmarks that attract the visual attention of humans, which we term visually salient landmarks. We illustrate the method for fetal neurosonographic images. First, full-length clinical fetal ultrasound scans are recorded with live sonographer gaze-tracking. Next, a convolutional neural network (CNN) is trained to predict the gaze point distribution (saliency map) of the sonographers on scan video frames. The CNN is then used to predict saliency maps of unseen fetal neurosonographic images, and the landmarks are extracted as the local maxima of these saliency maps. Finally, the landmarks are matched across images by clustering the landmark CNN features. We show that the discovered landmarks can be used within affine image registration, with average landmark alignment errors between 4.1% and 10.9% of the fetal head long axis length.A relevant number of reports have examined the role of airborne signals in plant-plant communication, indicating that volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can prime neighboring plants against pathogen and/or herbivore attacks. A retrospective cohort study was implemented, including patients who had undergone major head and neck surgery and who had follow-up records covering a minimum of 60 days postoperative. The main outcome was the incidence of new onset postoperative AF after major head and neck surgery; secondary outcomes were the incidence of any AF, the role of cardiology, predictors of AF postoperatively, and clinical outcomes. A total 337 patients were included. The MRI images of 63 patients were analysed for muscle contracture and atrophy, tendon rupture, signal alterations of the tendon, tendon contrast enhancement, and peritendinous fluid collection. Descriptive statistics and the coefficient estimate method were used for statistical analysis. Focus was placed on the association between LPM tendon pathology and TMJ lesions like osteoarthritis and disc displacement. Severe lesions of the LPM tendon and muscle parenchyma, like rupture or fibrosis, were detected in very few cases. Only moderate signs of tendinosis were found in TMD patients. In contrast, there was a clear correlation between tendon lesions and osteoarthritis or anterior disc displacement. These results indicate the need to discuss and question the role of the LPM and its tendon in TMD. Data suggest that LPM and tendon lesions are part of complex degenerative changes of the TMJ, and it seems less likely that a LPM disorder is causative in TMD.Background Studies have raised the concern that dieting and weight-loss programs may be a potential risk factor for developing eating disorders, and may have a potential to affect siblings as well. Methods In a 30-month retrospective follow-up study (n=18 families in intervention group, n=26 families in control group, total of 81 children and siblings) and a 14-month prospective follow-up study (n=42 families, 78 children and siblings), families with one or more children with overweight or obesity ages 8-14 years participated in a multidisciplinary parent-child program called "Maccabi Active". Children's version of the eating-attitude-test (ChEAT) questionnaire, family eating-and-activity-habits questionnaire (FEAHQ) and BMI z-score were measured. Results in the retrospective study, no difference between groups with respect to ChEAT scores in children and siblings was found. In the prospective study, the FEAHQ score significantly decreased after completion of the program (ΔFEAHQ=-16.2±4.9, p=0.001) and continued to decrease in the 8-month follow-up (ΔFEAHQ=-23.2±5.7, p=0.001). BMI z-scores decreased after 6 months (ΔBMI z-score=-0.3±0.1, p=0.014), and did not increase in the 8-month follow-up. Conclusions Our findings suggest no exacerbation in disordered eating behaviors among children with overweight or obesity or their siblings, thus alleviating concerns surrounding the development of disordered eating after participating in a family-based intervention. This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses format. The articles were grouped based on main themes or factors, settings, design, study years, and sample size. Thirty-nine articles met the inclusion criteria. Seven main themes or factors related to FV purchases and/or consumption in WIC participants were identified in these articles. The present study aimed to assess the association between household livestock ownership and childhood stunting and to explore the geospatial variations at district level in Bangladesh. A complete data of 19 295 children aged below 5 years were extracted from the latest Bangladesh Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey 2012-13. The tropical livestock unit (TLU) score calculated as a weighted value for each livestock and categorized as low, medium, and high using tertile. A hierarchical Bayesian spatial logistic model was used to assess the association between TLU and childhood stunting. Children from the household with high TLU were 10% less likely to be stunted (adjusted posterior odds ratio 0.90, 95% credible interval 0.84-0.97) after controlling for demographic, socioeconomic, morbidity, place of residence and spatial effects. There was also a substantial spatial variation in childhood stunting across districts in Bangladesh with the highest burden in the Northern and North-Eastern regions. The positive effect of household livestock ownership on reducing child stunting suggests that, in addition to nutritional intervention in Bangladesh, efforts to strengthen livestock production would be beneficial for improving child nutrition status. Seven main themes or factors related to FV purchases and/or consumption in WIC participants were identified in these articles. A complete data of 19 295 children aged below 5 years were extracted from the latest Bangladesh Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey 2012-13. The tropical livestock unit (TLU) score calculated as a weighted value for each livestock and categorized as low, medium, and high using tertile. A hierarchical Bayesian spatial logistic model was used to assess the association between TLU and childhood stunting. Children from the household with high TLU were 10% less likely to be stunted (adjusted posterior odds ratio 0.90, 95% credible interval 0.84-0.97) after controlling for demographic, socioeconomic, morbidity, place of residence and spatial effects. There was also a substantial spatial variation in childhood stunting across districts in Bangladesh with the highest burden in the Northern and North-Eastern regions. The positive effect of household livestock ownership on reducing child stunting suggests that, in addition to nutritional intervention in Bangladesh, efforts to strengthen livestock production would be beneficial for improving child nutrition status.   • Hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) has been introduced as an alternative to static cold storage (SCS) in kidney transplantation, but its true benefit in the clinical routine remains incompletely understood. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of HMP vs. SCS in kidney transplantation. All kidney transplants performed between 08/2015 and 12/2019 (n = 347) were propensity score (PS) matched for cold ischemia time (CIT), extended criteria donor (ECD), gender mismatch, cytomegalovirus (CMV) mismatch, re-transplantation and Eurotransplant (ET) senior program. A total of 103 HMP and 103 SCS instances fitted the matching criteria. Prior to PS matching, the CIT was longer in the HMP group (17.5 h vs. 13.3 h; p less then 0.001), while the delayed graft function (DGF) rates were 29.8% and 32.3% in HMP and SCS, respectively. In the PS matched groups, the DGF rate was 64.1% in SCS vs. 31.1% following HMP equivalent to a 51.5% reduction of the DGF rate (OR 0.485, 95% CI 0.318-0.740). DGF was associated with decreased 1- and 3-year graft survival (100% and 96.3% vs. 90.8% and 86.7%, p = 0.001 and p = 0.008) or a 4.1-fold increased risk of graft failure (HR = 4.108; 95% CI 1.336-12.631; p = 0.014). The results show that (1) there were significant differences in emergency-disaster preparedness, knowledge and skills preparedness and overall disaster-prevention preparedness, and (2) there was no significant difference in physical disaster-prevention preparation. Based on these results, the study suggests policy directions for regional poverty alleviation, disaster prevention and reduction and disaster management.

  • Background The proportion of government healthcare expenditure in China increases due to rapid economic development in recent years. The growth of government healthcare expenditure can promote physical health improvement of human capitals and thereby facilitate economic growth. Hence, exploring the effects of government healthcare expenditure on economic growth is important. Methods Spatial correlation of economic growth under different spatial weights was tested, and the effects of government healthcare expenditure on economic growth were analyzed by constructing a spatial Durbin model with the panel data of 31 provinces in China gathered from 2005 to 2017. Results Government healthcare expenditure in China significantly and positively affects economic growth under three spatial weight matrices. The spatial weight of economic distance influences economic growth more significantly compared with the 0-1 spatial weight and the spatial weight of geographical distance. The total and the direct effects of government healthcare expenditure are significantly positive. Furthermore, the direct effects are significant, whereas the indirect effects show different degrees of significance. Conclusion The total effect of government healthcare expenditure on economic growth is significant and positive, with direct effects exceeding the indirect ones. The differences in standardized mortality rates and number of deaths were analyzed with regard to age, gender, and tumor localization. Linear trend and regression were used to determine mortality rate trend. Results There was statistically significant difference in the number of deaths between men and women in the ages of 40 and over (P less then 0.01); male/female cancer mortality ratio was 4.561. Generally, the most common localization of this carcinoma was hypopharynx. There was no statistically significant increase of mortality rates from these cancers for both genders (males y = 4.77 + 0.42x, P = 0.069 % change = +20.35; females y = 1.03 + 0.01x, P = 0.40 % change = +4) during 17-year period. Conclusion Promotion of healthy habits, life-styles and regular inspection of mouth by patients and health professionals should be better prioritized especially in developing countries where implementing and improving national health prevention programs are essential.Background This study attempted to identify the problem South Korea faces in its development of the medical tourism industry from the perspective of English education. Results Although the nursing major students were highly satisfied with the English instructors, they did not feel that the curriculum prepared them well to deal with foreign patients in the future. They also felt that the teaching methodology employed in the class should be changed to incorporate more medical content into the nursing English program. Conclusion In order for South Korea to play a bigger role in the medical tourism industry, higher education institutions for medicine need to pay more attention to the English education of their students. Methods Overall, 287 patients with colorectal cancer were collected in the Digestive Surgery Department of Chinese PLA General Hospital, Beijing, China from January 2017 to November 2018 and were used as the study group, meanwhile, 200 people who took physical examination in the same period were used as the control group. They were retrospectively analyzed. The concentrations of IL-17, MMP-9 and CD23 in serum were detected by ELISA 10 d before and after treatment and 30 d after treatment. The relationship between IL-17, MMP-9 and CD23 concentration and clinicopathology was analyzed. Results The concentrations of CD23, IL-17 and MMP-9 in peripheral blood of the patients in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P less then 0.001). IL-17, MMP-9 and CD23 were negatively correlated with treatment time and pathological features in the study group (P less then 0.001).   • Filamentous fungi play an important role in the production of a range of useful extracellular hydrolytic enzymes for wide industrial applications. The Western Ghats region is known for its rich microbial biodiversity and could be a potential source of several useful fungi that could be exploited for the production of industrially important enzymes. From this soil, we aimed at the isolation of multienzyme producing fungi, optimization of the culture conditions using solid-state fermentation (SSF), partial purification of enzymes and characterization by zymography. Out of seven fungal strains, two isolates, namely Penicillium citrinum and Aspergillus clavatus, were found to produce amylase and cellulase enzymes maximally. The effect of different physicochemical parameters on the production of amylase and cellulase was investigated and the maximum production of multienzymes was achieved in wheat bran substrate. The newly formulated and optimized medium increased the multienzyme production in P. citrinum and A. clavatus as compared to medium with individually optimized parameters. Further, for the first time, different isoforms of amylase and cellulase have been identified from P. citrinum and A. clavatus by zymography. It was found in one-step growth curve that the latent period of the S-B68 was about 49 h after infection with Synechococcus, and then it entered the rising period, and tended to stable after 61 h. Using the BLASTN tool in the NCBI database for genome comparison, there was no significant similarity between S-B68 and other known cyanophages. In order to investigate the epidemiology of these four viral infections in the central region of Zhejiang province, China, 10,638 respiratory secretion samples previously tested for IAV and IBV, and 6427 whole blood samples previously tested for EV71 and CVA16 detection were analyzed retrospectively. The present data shows that viral infections with these four viruses featured with distinct seasonal patterns. Both IAV and IBV infections more frequently occurred in winter, while infections with the two enteroviruses peaked in summer with high positive rates in other months. The most susceptible ages for IAV, IBV, EV71, and CVA16 were 2-7 years old, 4-6 years old, 1-3 years old, and 1-2 years old, respectively. It was recommended that children in the central region of Zhejiang Province should be vaccinated for influenza by the end of October every year, especially between the ages of 2 and 7 years old and children in age from 1 to 3 years old should be paid more attention all year round for EV71 and CVA16 infection. Moreover, the female gender appeared to be a risk factor only for IBV infection, while CVA16 inflicted more infection in young children. We developed a prototype CAR T cell that efficiently and specifically eliminated BAFF-R expressing human B-cell tumors in several xenogeneic mouse models, including models of CD19 antigen loss. We proceeded with translational development and validation of BAFF-R CAR T cells produced under current good manufacturing practices (cGMP). cGMP-grade BAFF-R CAR T cells underwent in vitro and in vivo validation in established models to confirm that the potency and efficacy of our original research modeling was replicated.
    Filamentous fungi play an important role in the production of a range of useful extracellular hydrolytic enzymes for wide industrial applications. The Western Ghats region is known for its rich microbial biodiversity and could be a potential source of several useful fungi that could be exploited for the production of industrially important enzymes. From this soil, we aimed at the isolation of multienzyme producing fungi, optimization of the culture conditions using solid-state fermentation (SSF), partial purification of enzymes and characterization by zymography. Out of seven fungal strains, two isolates, namely Penicillium citrinum and Aspergillus clavatus, were found to produce amylase and cellulase enzymes maximally. The effect of different physicochemical parameters on the production of amylase and cellulase was investigated and the maximum production of multienzymes was achieved in wheat bran substrate. The newly formulated and optimized medium increased the multienzyme production in P. citrinum and A. clavatus as compared to medium with individually optimized parameters. Further, for the first time, different isoforms of amylase and cellulase have been identified from P. citrinum and A. clavatus by zymography. In summary, the present study showed that the filamentous fungi can utilize the industrial waste product such as wheat bran as the substrate for multienzymes production by SSF and could be a promising source of enzymes for biotechnological applications.The potential of bacteriophages as alternative treatment for multidrug-resistant (MDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae-related infections has recently gained much interest.   • The development of the current knowledge of the gas-phase chemistry of protonated methylbenzenes, such as toluenium, xylenium and mesitylenium ions, their higher congeners as well as of their mostly cyclo-olefinic isomers by mass spectrometric methodology is presented. Starting from the observation of the characteristic expulsion of dihydrogen from metastable C7 H9 + ions, which is associated with the release of large amounts of kinetic energy, and the composite C- and H-scrambling prior to the loss of methane, in particular, insights into the isomerization scenario of various isomeric C7 H9 + , C8 H11 + , and C9 H13 + ions, based on a large variety of independent techniques, are discussed. Besides isotope labeling and metastable ion methodology, these include flowing afterglow mass spectrometry, gas-phase titration and infrared spectroscopy of mass-selected ions. The particularly complex energy hypersurface of isomerizing and fragmenting toluenium ions, which has been elaborated in various reports over the years, is presented in a combined way to assess the role of protonated cycloheptatriene, norbornadiene, and 6-methylfulvene as well as a number of further C7 H9 + isomers. The formation and nature of C7 H9 + ions generated by fragmentation of various hydrocarbon precursors, such as monoterpenes and adamantane, is also addressed. The contribution of infrared multiphoton dissociation spectroscopy (IRMPD) and tagged-ion infrared photodissociation (IRPD) of the gaseous C7 H9 + ions as compared to the wealth of previous understanding of their chemistry is commented on as well. Finally, remarkable parallels of the gas-phase chemistry of methylbenzenium ions and the role of such species within the cavities of acidic zeolite catalysts in the course of the industrially important methanol-to-hydrocarbon reaction are discussed. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd. Nevertheless, in conventional thin-film electrodes, there is mutual exclusion between energy (capacity) and power. Increasing the thickness of electrodes alone is not feasible since this will lead to reductions in ion-diffusion efficiency, as well as electrode flexibility. To address this difficulty, 3D electrode architectures, especially cathode architectures, are proposed to pave a new path for the design and optimization of battery devices. Recent research suggests that 3D cathode architectures may optimize the configuration and engineering processes of battery technologies. The pathophysiology of depression and HF is poorly understood, but both diseases share several mechanisms and risk factors, including dysregulation of platelet reactivity, inflammation, neuroendocrine function, arrhythmias, high-risk behaviours, and social factors. Current HF guidelines advise to screen HF patients for depression and several screening questionnaires are available. Ultimately, the diagnosis of depression is based on DSM-5 criteria. Depression treatment consists of non-pharmacological and pharmacological therapies. Non-pharmacological therapies, such as exercise training and cognitive-behavioural therapy, have been shown to have beneficial effects on depressive symptoms. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, the mainstay of antidepressant therapy, appear to be safe in HF but have not shown superiority over placebo in HF in short- and long-term randomized clinical trials. New therapies to treat depression are under investigation and may offer the opportunity to improve depression management in HF, including N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonists, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and omega-3 supplementation. New technologies may offer several advantages for the screening and diagnosis of depression but they remain to be tested in future research. In this review, we examine the intersection of depression and HF, summarize the epidemiology and pathophysiology, and discuss new opportunities to diagnose and treat HF patients with depression.Klinefelter syndrome (KS; 47,XXY) impacts neurodevelopment and is associated with an increased risk of cognitive, psychological and social impairments, although significant heterogeneity in the neurodevelopmental profile is seen. KS is characterized by a specific cognitive profile with predominantly verbal deficits, preserved function in non-verbal and visuo-spatial domains, executive dysfunction and social impairments, and by an increased vulnerability toward psychiatric disorders. The neurobiological underpinnings of the observed neuropsychological profile have not been established. A distinct pattern of both global and regional brain volumetric differences has been demonstrated in addition to preliminary findings of functional brain alterations related to auditory, motor, language and social processing. When present, the combination of cognitive, psychological and social challenges has the potential to negatively affect quality of life. This review intends to provide information and insight to the neuropsychological outcome and brain correlates of KS. Possible clinical intervention and future directions of research will be discussed.
