Studies of the interactions of cobalt complexes with amino acids demonstrated that tripod ligands promote the cysteine reaction, while the salen ligands promote histidine coordination, demonstrating a different mechanism of action. The results reported here are significant for better understanding and further design of zinc finger targeting compounds.Capacitive deionization (CDI), which is based on ion electrosorption on the surface of electrically charged electrodes, has attracted widespread attention as a novel, cost-effective and environment-friendly desalination technology. Carbon materials are widely used as CDI electrodes due to their high specific surface area (SSA), superior conductivity, and better stability. Many research efforts have been made to further enhance the CDI performance of carbon materials. In this review, the performance-enhancing strategies of various carbon materials including activated carbon, porous carbon, carbon aerogels, carbon nanotubes and graphene are systematically presented. We also explain the significance of the development of CDI technology and identify where further work is urgently required and where challenges are still faced.Formation of composition conserving defects is an inherent feature that appears in compounds for thermoelectric applications during the processes of their fabrication. Different types of such defects including exchange antisite defects, Schottky defects, and triple-, quatro- and penta-defects in TiNiSn are considered. Density functional theory calculations of the energy of formation of these defects are carried out. It is demonstrated that their formation may lead to a significant decrease of the band gap (Eg), simultaneously causing a transformation to p-type or semi-metal conductivity in this material. The role of nanopores is discussed. It is shown that preparing nanoporous compounds may be an efficient way to create p-type TiNiSn, simultaneously decreasing the thermal conductivity and improving its thermoelectric parameters.Successive chemical reductions of the heteroleptic complex [(tpy)CrIII(tphz)]3+ (tpy = terpyridine; tphz = tetrapyridophenazine) give rise to the mono- and di-radical redox isomers, [(tpy)CrIII(tphz˙-)]2+ and [(tpy˙-)CrIII(tphz˙-)]+, respectively. As designed, the optimized overlap of the involved magnetic orbitals leads to extremely strong magnetic interactions between the S = 3/2 metal ion and S = 1/2 radical spins, affording well isolated ST = 1 and ST = 1/2 ground states at room temperature.It has recently been shown that in a broad class of disordered systems oscillatory shear training can embed memories of specific shear protocols in relevant physical parameters such as the yield strain. We have demonstrated this by using gold nanorods (NRs) with tunable longitudinal surface plasmon resonances. The PT signal of gold NR near-resonant with the probe light showed dramatic variation in the narrow resonance wavelength range, as small as 15 nm, and the maximal amplitude of the PT signal in this range can be enhanced up to 43 times as compared with the weak PT signal of gold NR non-resonant with the probe light.

The oral route by ingestion of water and food contaminated with cyanotoxins is the main route of exposure to these toxins. This study addresses for the first time the bioaccessibility of some of the most common Microcystins (**-LR, **-RR and **-YR) and Cylindrospermopsin (CYN) simultaneously in raw and steamed mussels spiked at 250 ng/g fresh weight of each cyanotoxin, after an in vitro digestion, including the salivary (incubation with artificial saliva, 30s), gastric (with pepsin, 2h, pH 2), duodenal (with pancreatin and bile salts, 2h, pH 6.5) and colonic phases (with lactic-acid bacteria, 48h, pH 7.2). The results obtained suggest that the potential absorption of these cyanotoxins by consumption of contaminated mussels is lower than expected. After the total effect of cooking and digestion, the mean bioaccessibility levels recorded were 24.65% (CYN), 31.51% (**-RR), 17.51% (**-YR) and 13.20% (**-LR). Moreover, toxins were transferred to the steaming waters at 3.77 ± 0.24 μg L-1 CYN, 2.29 ± 0.13 μg L-1 **-LR, 6.60 ± 0.25 μg L-1 **-RR and 3.83 ± 0.22 μg L-1 **-YR. We report a case of successful use a pedicled sternocleidomastoid musculocutaneous flap to repair a large tracheoesophageal fistula, in which the cutaneous component was applied to the defect of membranous trachea after tracheal resection, and the muscular component was interposed between the tracheal and esophageal walls. Several studies have been published describing the clinical and radiographic findings on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pneumonia. Therefore, there is currently a lack of pathologic data about its effects in intubated patients. Pneumothorax may occur rarely and results from a combination of fibrotic parenchyma with prolonged high-pressure ventilation. Chest drain represent the first line treatment. However, in case of persistent pneumothorax, thoracoscopy and bleb resection may be a feasible option to reduce air leak and improve ventilation. We report the cases of two COVID-19 patients successfully treated with thoracoscopy, bleb resection, and pleurectomy for persistent pneumothorax. The COVID-19 pandemic necessitates aggressive infection mitigation strategies to reduce the risk to patients and healthcare providers. This document is intended to provide a framework for the adult cardiac surgeon to consider in this rapidly changing environment. Pre, intra, and post-operative detailed protective measures are outlined. These are guidance recommendations during a pandemic surge to be utilized for ALL patients while local COVID-19 disease burden remains elevated. Truncus arteriosus with interrupted aortic arch (TA/IAA) represents a complex lesion with high rates of reintervention. We present a novel technique of a composite flap, made possible by aberrant right subclavian anatomy. Truncus arteriosus with interrupted aortic arch (TA/IAA) was previously believed to portend a significantly worse outcome[1], however more recent series have shown improved survival [2], likely due to improved surgical, perfusion, and anesthetic techniques. Despite improvements in mortality, rates of re-operation for aortic arch related complications remain high [3]. Therefore, techniques to reduce the rate of reintervention, particularly involving increased utilization of autologous tissue would seem beneficial. BACKGROUND Although open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) is an accepted treatment for a proportion of acute rib fractures, there is paucity of literature on its potential to treat chronic, non-union fractures. This study evaluates the outcomes and quality of life of patients who underwent ORIF for chronic, symptomatic non-union rib fractures. METHODS Thirty two patients were explored for possible ORIF of non-union rib fractures (> 6 months after injury). After excluding non-English speaking patients (n=1), those where no instability was noted at surgery (n=3), and those deceased at the time of study (n=4), 24 patients were eligible. Telephone interviews were conducted using a previously published rib fracture pain questionnaire. RESULTS Seventy percent (19/24) of eligible patients consented and completed the questionnaire at a median time from surgery of 55 months (interquartile range [IQR] 24-62 months). Injuries were classified as multi-system trauma (n=4) or isolated rib fractures (n=15). The median pain severity (on a scale of 1 [none/mild] -10 [severe]) significantly decreased from preoperatively (9, IQR 7-10) to postoperatively (1, IQR 0-2); p less then 0.001. RESULTS We identified 554 patients treated with lobectomy (n = 389) or SBRT (n = 165) at our institution between 2008 and 2018. After propensity score matching, there were 132 and 85 lobectomy and SBRT patients, respectively. SBRT was associated with increased local recurrence (HR = 6.80; 95% CI 1.92- 24.10; p = 0.003) and regional nodal recurrence (HR = 2.58; 95% CI 1.17 - 5.68; p = 0.

Literature data on the electron microscopic study of the vascular strip of the rabbit webbed snail infected with syphilis are presented. The article also collected literature data on indicators obtained by audiological and vestibulological studies of the inner ear in cases of early and late neurosyphilis. The article focuses on the possible only manifestation of neurosyphilis in the form of cochleovestibular symptoms.The review is devoted to assessing the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) in combination with other viral agents for head and neck tumors (HNT). HPV is recognized as an etiological factor in the development of cervical cancer, but there is evidence that it may be involved in carcinogenesis in other locations, in particular the upper respiratory tract. However, HPV is not the most important factor in tumor growth and progression. Recently, many researchers have reported the presence of concomitant co-infection, affecting tumor progression. Of all the studies analyzed, only 3 studies showed the absence or low rates of co-infection in HNT from the Czech Republic (0%), China (0.6%) and Japan (3%). Most often, HPV infection was detected together with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) - from 12.5 to 34.1% of cases. In Russia, the prevailing combination of viral co-infection was a combination of EBV and cytomegalovirus (9.5%) and a combination of EBV and herpes simplex virus (6.7%). Thus, the degree of incidence of HPV in HNT varies greatly, and the mechanisms of coinfection are poorly understood, which raises the question of whether HPV and concomitant infection can be involved in tumor progression. This makes further research in this direction relevant and promising.Recently, almost all over the world attention of doctors and scientists is focused on a new coronavirus infection, the source of which was the causative agent SARS-CoV-2. In this regard, early diagnosis, including on the basis of symptoms from ENT organs, is crucial. A brief analysis of the available literature on the peculiarities of ENT organs manifestations in patients with SARS-CoV-2 is given. It was found out that to date there is very little data on the state of loro organs in patients with SARS-CoV-2 and no data on anosmia in the pediatric population. However, it is in children in the epidemic aspect that early diagnosis of infection and understanding of its key symptoms is of utmost importance.In connection with the prevalence and tendency to relapse, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps is an urgent problem not only for otorhinolaryngologists, but also for specialists whose therapeutic activity is somehow related to the respiratory system. Based on clinical observations, 5 phenotypes of this pathology were identified, each of which requires an individual approach to treatment and prevention. As a rule, the first stage is functional endoscopic rhinosinus surgery, the volume of which is determined depending on the phenotype. But even with a carefully performed operation, the result of surgical treatment may be unsatisfactory if there was no adequate care in the early inpatient and outpatient periods. This paper highlights the features of dynamic monitoring of patients with different phenotypes of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.Presented clinical observation of a patient with exacerbation of left-sided chronic purulent otitis media complicated by extradural brain abscess, temporal bone osteomyelitis. Results Noted relief of symptoms such as throbbing noise and pain in patients receiving the topical Otofa drug (active ingredient Rifamycin) by the 3th day of therapy. Otofa also reduced otorrhea by the 5th day of therapy. Conclusion The study showed the high clinical efficacy of Otofa ear drops containing the Rifamycin antibiotic.
Literature data on the electron microscopic study of the vascular strip of the rabbit webbed snail infected with syphilis are presented. The article also collected literature data on indicators obtained by audiological and vestibulological studies of the inner ear in cases of early and late neurosyphilis. The article focuses on the possible only manifestation of neurosyphilis in the form of cochleovestibular symptoms.The review is devoted to assessing the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) in combination with other viral agents for head and neck tumors (HNT). HPV is recognized as an etiological factor in the development of cervical cancer, but there is evidence that it may be involved in carcinogenesis in other locations, in particular the upper respiratory tract. However, HPV is not the most important factor in tumor growth and progression. Recently, many researchers have reported the presence of concomitant co-infection, affecting tumor progression. Of all the studies analyzed, only 3 studies showed the absence or low rates of co-infection in HNT from the Czech Republic (0%), China (0.6%) and Japan (3%). Most often, HPV infection was detected together with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) - from 12.5 to 34.1% of cases. In Russia, the prevailing combination of viral co-infection was a combination of EBV and cytomegalovirus (9.5%) and a combination of EBV and herpes simplex virus (6.7%). Thus, the degree of incidence of HPV in HNT varies greatly, and the mechanisms of coinfection are poorly understood, which raises the question of whether HPV and concomitant infection can be involved in tumor progression. In this study, a combination of the range, amplitude, efficiency and capacity of the WCI effect (WCI_R, WCI_A, WCI_E and WCI_C as descriptors) within water buffers, is proposed to evaluate the interannual variation of the seasonal WCI effects within the fifth loop of Beijing from 2000 to 2018, further construct optimal regression models by seven impact factors with the four WCI descriptors through all-subset regression, as well as calculate the independent contribution rate (CR) of these factors by hierarchical partitioning (HP) analysis. The results indicate that (1) In terms of the interannual variation of WCI effects, the most significant trends that rise over fall produced by four descriptors generate in summer after 2009, while relatively stable states exist in spring and winter. This study used canopy addition of nitrogen, understory addition of nitrogen, and no-nitrogen addition control to study the effect of nitrogen deposition on the allocation of carbon assimilation products of representative woody species in an evergreen broad-leaved forest. Results showed that the maximum photosynthetic rate (Asat) of Blastus cochinchinensis (a shrub), Ardisia quinquegona (a small tree), and Schefflera octophylla (a small tree) were significantly higher, but Asat of Schima superba (a large tree) was significantly lower under canopy addition of nitrogen than under the control. Canopy and understory additions of nitrogen did not change Asat of Lasianthus chinensis (a shrub). Compared with the control, leaf chemical compositions of these plants were differentially changed by canopyergreen broad-leaved forests into shrublands. However, the interactive effects of warming and heavy metals on PAH accumulation in edible plants and the PAH-associated health risk remain unclear. The results showed that both individual Cu or warming decreased the PAH-d10 concentrations in root and shoot (non-normalized by lipid content) as well as the total PAH-associated cancer risk. We demonstrate a host-guest molecular recognition approach to advance double electron-electron resonance (DEER) distance measurements of spin-labeled proteins. We synthesized an iodoacetamide derivative of 2,6-diazaadamantane nitroxide (DZD) spin label that could be doubly incorporated into T4 Lysozyme (T4L) by site-directed spin labeling with efficiency up to 50% per cysteine. The rigidity of the fused ring structure and absence of mobile methyl groups increase the spin echo dephasing time (Tm) at temperatures above 80 K. This enables DEER measurements of distances >4 nm in DZD-labeled T4L in glycerol/water at temperatures up to 150 K with increased sensitivity compared to that of a common spin label such as MTSL. Addition of β-cyclodextrin reduces the rotational correlation time of the label, slightly increases Tm, and most importantly, narrows (and slightly lengthens) the interspin distance distributions. The distance distributions are in good agreement with simulated distance distributions obtained by rotamer libraries. These results provide a foundation for developing supramolecular recognition to facilitate long-distance DEER measurements at near physiological temperatures.Amorphous indium-gallium-zinc oxide (a-IGZO) films, which are widely regarded as a promising material for the channel layer in thin-film transistors (TFTs), require a relatively high thermal annealing temperature to achieve switching characteristics through the formation of metal-oxygen (M-O) bonding (i.e., the activation process). The activation process is usually carried out at a temperature above 300 °C; however, achieving activation at lower temperatures is essential for realizing flexible display technologies. Here, a facile, low-cost, and novel technique using cellophane tape for the activation of a-IGZO films at a low annealing temperature is reported. In terms of mechanochemistry, mechanical pulling of the cellophane tape induces reactive radicals on the a-IGZO film surface, which can give rise to improvements in the properties of the a-IGZO films, leading to an increase in the number of M-O bonds and the carrier concentration via radical reactions, even at 200 °C. As a result, the a-IGZO TFTs, compared to conventionally annealed a-IGZO TFTs, exhibited improved electrical performances, such as mobility, on/off current ratio, and threshold voltage shift (under positive bias temperature and negative bias temperature stress for 10,000 s at 50 °C) from 8.25 to 12.81 cm2/(V·s), 2.85 × 107 to 1.21 × 108, 6.81 to 3.24 V, and -6.68 to -4.93 V, respectively.Adopting the mixed ligands approach, two water-stable Zn5 cluster-based MOFs, [Zn10(TZ)12(TADIPA)2(DMF)4]·DMF·6H2O (JLU-MOF66) and [Zn10(TZ)12(TPTA)2(DMA)2]·2DMA·4H2O (JLU-MOF67), have been constructed (H4TADIPA = 5,5'-(1H-1,2,4-triazole-3,5-diyl)diisophthalic acid, H4TPTA = [1,1'3',1″-terphenyl]-3,3″,5,5″-tetracarboxylic acid, and HTZ = 1H-[1,2,3]triazole). We synthesized an iodoacetamide derivative of 2,6-diazaadamantane nitroxide (DZD) spin label that could be doubly incorporated into T4 Lysozyme (T4L) by site-directed spin labeling with efficiency up to 50% per cysteine. The rigidity of the fused ring structure and absence of mobile methyl groups increase the spin echo dephasing time (Tm) at temperatures above 80 K. This enables DEER measurements of distances >4 nm in DZD-labeled T4L in glycerol/water at temperatures up to 150 K with increased sensitivity compared to that of a common spin label such as MTSL. Addition of β-cyclodextrin reduces the rotational correlation time of the label, slightly increases Tm, and most importantly, narrows (and slightly lengthens) the interspin distance distributions. However, it is not known whether navigators working remotely can be as effective at linking families to community resources as on-site navigators. The aim of this study was to assess whether a patient navigator located on-site versus remotely is more likely to receive referrals from clinicians, successfully follow-up with patients, and assist families with enrollment in social needs resources. Methods A patient navigator worked on-site and remotely as she divided her time between 4 federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) from May 2015 to June 2019. We conducted a 1-sample test of proportion comparing the proportion of on-site referrals made with the proportion of the week spent in each FQHC. To assess the impact of on-site versus remote referrals on number of contacts with a family, we conducted a 2-sample t test. We used chi-square testing to assess the effect of on-site versus remote status on resource enrollment. Results Of the referrals (N = 414) made to the patient navigator, the majority were made through the electronic health record (83%) versus in person (17%) (P less then .0001). When the navigator was on-site, significantly more referrals were made than expected (45% vs 29%, P less then .0001). Between remote and on-site referral groups, there was no significant difference in number of contact points (1.0 vs 1.1 points, P = .32) or in the proportion of families who received a resource (4.6% vs 5.1%, P = .31). Conclusion Our results indicate that clinicians were significantly more likely to refer families to patient navigation if the navigator was on-site. Moreover, testimonies tend to be predominantly from the mother's perspectives, thereby limiting the scope of understanding of the interdependent nature of families' occupational patterns.Conclusion To better understand the complexity and interdependence of families' occupational patterns, future studies should examine multiple perspectives (parents and children) when studying occupations in a family setting. However, a lack of comprehensive molecular profiling in Chinese Han population hinders the development of targeted therapies for bladder cancer. In our present study, we collected fresh bladder tumors from low-grade (T1, N0, M0, G1) non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) patients (n = 16) and high-grade (T2-4, N0, M0, Gx) muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) patients (n = 16) with their paired normal bladder tissues, and subjected the total genomic DNAs to targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) for 94 cancer-associated genes. NGS results showed that 30.9% of detected genes (29/94) was mutated in 32 urothelial carcinoma bladder tissues. Furthermore, our results and ICGC database showed that FGFR3, KMT2D, TP53, KDM6A, and ARID1A were the most frequently mutated genes in UC patients. Of note, NMIBC and MIBC displayed distinguishable genomic alterations. FGFR3, KMT2D, AKT1, ARID1A, and STAG2 were the most frequently mutated genes in NMIBC patients, whereas mutations of TP53, CREBBP, FGFR3, KDM6A, KMT2D, and ARID1A were frequently detected in MIBC. Intriguingly, gene ontology and clustering analysis revealed that these frequently mutated genes were highly enriched in signaling pathways responsible for cancer development. CT images were stratified into three categories based on growth spurts Group I - 6-10 years (n = 210), Group II - 11-14 years (n = 270), and Group III - 15-18 years (n = 280). The CT images were analyzed for stages of mid-palatal suture maturation, according to age and sex. The recorded data were subjected for statistical analysis. Results Indian children, up to age of 10 years, were distributed in stage A and B. After 11 years, up to 14 years girls showed varied distribution and spread equally among stage B, C, and D. After 15 years, more number of girls were distributed in stage D and E, whereas boys remained distributed variedly in stage B, C, and D. Mid- palatal suture maturational stages correlated to chronological age among both the genders using Fisher exact test and expected contingency table showed statistically significant variation among both the gender independently and collectively (P less then 0.001). Conclusion Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)-based prediction of stages of mid- palatal suture maturation by Fernanda Angelieri is valid among the Indian population. The aim of the study was to compare the clinical outcome of coronally advanced flap (CAF) procedure in root coverage with platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) or subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) for the treatment of Miller's Class-I gingival recession. Materials and Methods The split mouth design consisted of 15 patients with a total of 30 sites with bilateral Miller's Class-I recession on anterior teeth. They were randomly assigned into PRF group (test) or SCTG group (control). Statistical Analysis The values obtained were tabulated and analyzed using Mann--Whitney U-test and repeated measure ANOVA test. All the statistical tests were carried out using SPSS software. Results It was observed that both the autogenous grafts healed without any complications and at the end of 6 months the grafts were stable and recession coverage between 88-100% was achieved. Conclusion CAF procedure with either PRF or SCTG were both effective in the treatment of Miller's Class-I gingival recessions. CAF with SCTG showed better root coverage than CAF with PRF. Use of PRF offered additional benefit of avoiding second surgical site. Therefore, PRF can be considered as a viable alternative to SCTG in certain cases.

Plaque samples were collected from all approximal surface and gingivobuccal surfaces of teeth using a sterile u S-ECC. There was significant difference between mean dmft/dmfs scores in three study groups and it also showed positive correlation between dmfs scores and SM and SS colonization in ECC and S-ECC status.Introduction One of the most common aesthetic concerns associated with the periodontal tissue is gingival recession. Covering the root surface exposed during the disease process with soft and hard tissue surgeries may decrease these problems. The aim of the study was to compare the clinical outcome of coronally advanced flap (CAF) procedure in root coverage with platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) or subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) for the treatment of Miller's Class-I gingival recession. Materials and Methods The split mouth design consisted of 15 patients with a total of 30 sites with bilateral Miller's Class-I recession on anterior teeth. They were randomly assigned into PRF group (test) or SCTG group (control). Statistical Analysis The values obtained were tabulated and analyzed using Mann--Whitney U-test and repeated measure ANOVA test. All the statistical tests were carried out using SPSS software. Results It was observed that both the autogenous grafts healed without any complications and at the end of 6 months the grafts were stable and recession coverage between 88-100% was achieved. Conclusion CAF procedure with either PRF or SCTG were both effective in the treatment of Miller's Class-I gingival recessions. CAF with SCTG showed better root coverage than CAF with PRF. Use of PRF offered additional benefit of avoiding second surgical site. Transcriptomics data are relevant to address a number of challenges in Toxicogenomics (TGx). After careful planning of exposure conditions and data preprocessing, the TGx data can be used in predictive toxicology, where more advanced modelling techniques are applied. The large volume of molecular profiles produced by omics-based technologies allows the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) methods in TGx. Indeed, the publicly available omics datasets are constantly increasing together with a plethora of different methods that are made available to facilitate their analysis, interpretation and the generation of accurate and stable predictive models. In this review, we present the state-of-the-art of data modelling applied to transcriptomics data in TGx. We show how the benchmark dose (BMD) analysis can be applied to TGx data. We review read across and adverse outcome pathways (AOP) modelling methodologies. We discuss how network-based approaches can be successfully employed to clarify the mechanism of action (MOA) or specific biomarkers of exposure. We also describe the main AI methodologies applied to TGx data to create predictive classification and regression models and we address current challenges. Finally, we present a short description of deep learning (DL) and data integration methodologies applied in these contexts. Listeria monocytogenes is a significant concern for the produce industry; however, there is limited information to support the practical decision-making to mitigate this risk. This study investigated the prevalence of Listeria spp. and L. monocytogenes in seven produce handling and processing (PHP) facilities in the Pacific Northwest. PHP facilities were defined as facilities that receive raw agricultural commodities and further handle, pack, wash, or process prior to distribution into the retail sector. Environmental swabs (n = 50/facility) were collected in high-risk areas (e.g., near raw product entry points) from seven PHP facilities over two visits. Listeria spp. were isolated using modified ISO 11290-1 method and speciated with Microgen® Listeria-ID. Listeria spp., including L. monocytogenes, were found in 5/7 PHP. Prevalence of Listeria spp. ranged from 2% to 26% in these five facilities. Drains, entry areas, and portable equipment consistently tested positive for Listeria spp. during active production. Two additional sampling rounds (n = 50/round) were conducted in the highest prevalence facility (Facility #1). Overall, Listeria spp. were detected in 44/150 (29.3%) swabs collected from Facility #1. This study demonstrated the high prevalence of Listeria spp. near raw product entry points across PHP facilities. The present pilot study aimed at evaluating air sampling as a novel method for monitoring Campylobacter in poultry farms. We compared the bacteriological isolation of Campylobacter from boot swabs and air filter samples using ISO 10272-12017. A secondary aim was to evaluate the use of molecular methods, i.e. real time PCR, on the same sample set. Samples from 44 flocks from five European countries were collected, and included air samples, in parallel with boot swabs. Campylobacter spp. was isolated from seven of 44 boot swabs from three of five partners using the enrichment method. Two of these positive boot swab samples had corresponding positive air samples. Using enrichment, one positive air sample was negative in the corresponding boot swabs, but Campylobacter spp. was isolated from direct plating of the boot swab sample. One partner isolated Campylobacter spp. from six of 10 boot swabs using direct plating. Overall, 33 air filter samples were screened directly with PCR, returning 14 positive results. In conclusion, there was a lack of correspondence between results from analysis of boot swabs and air filters using ISO 10272-12017. In contrast, the combination of air filters and direct real-time PCR might be a way forward. Despite the use of the detailed ISO protocols, there were still sections that could be interpreted differently among laboratories. The D-values for TV in PBS ranged from 4.55 ± 0.28 to 1.08 ± 0.16 min, and for HAV in PBS ranged from to 9.21 ± 0.24 to 0.67 ± 0.19 min at 52-68 °C. Decreased D-values (52-58 °C) for TV with curcumin ranging from 4.32 ± 0.25 to 0.62 ± 0.17 min, gingerol from 4.09 ± 0.18 to 0.72 ± 0.09 min and GSE from 3.82 ± 0.18 to 0.80 ± 0.07 min, with similar trends for HAV were observed. The linear model showed significant differences (p less then 0.05) between the D-values of HAV and TV with and without plant extracts for most tested temperatures. Six strains, one of each ISR- and SEg-type, were genome sequenced and the ability to produce some classical and new SEs when growing in milk was investigated. The manual analysis of the six genomes allowed us to confirm, correct and expand the results of common available genomic data pipelines such as VirulenceFinder. The so produced worts are then fermented with Leuconostoc citreum TR116 a mannitol hyper-producer. Malted barley, oat and wheat were mashed to stimulate protein degradation and release of free amino acids along with the enzymatic conversion of starch to fermentable sugars. Amyloglucosidase and glucose isomerase treatment converted di- and oligo-saccharides to glucose and provided a moderate fructose concentration in malt worts which was consistent across the three cereals.

Moreover, it enabled us to (i) investigate the actual location of se and sel genes, even for genes such as selY, whose location (in the core genome) was so far unknown, (ii) find novel allelic variants of se and sel genes and pseudogenes, (iii) correctly annotate se and sel genes and pseudogenes, and (iv) discover a novel type of enterotoxie of the relevant genes, by using the conventional and real time PCR protocols we exhaustively provided herein, and their nucleotide sequences, should be investigated. Achieving a high monosaccharide composition in malt wort is instrumental to achieve successful lactic acid bacteria fermentation of malt based beverages. The conversion of monosaccharides to alternative metabolites such as the sweet polyol, mannitol with heterofermentative strains presents a novel approach for sugar reduction and to compensate for the loss of sweetness. This work outlines the application of an adopted mashing regimen with the addition of exogenous enzymes to produce wort with high fructose content which can be applied to different malted grain types with consistently efficacious monosaccharide production for bacterial fermentation. The so produced worts are then fermented with Leuconostoc citreum TR116 a mannitol hyper-producer. Malted barley, oat and wheat were mashed to stimulate protein degradation and release of free amino acids along with the enzymatic conversion of starch to fermentable sugars.
