The growth of stringlets upon heating ultimately also leads to the "softening" of these excitations, and the boson peak frequency and shear modulus drop in concert with this softening. We compared simulations using a fully explicit solvent model with a classical polarizable force field, density functional tight binding, and ab initio density functional theory, which correspond to empirical, semiempirical, and ab initio PIMD simulations, respectively. The centroid variable with respect to the proton coordination number of a water molecule was restrained to compute the gradient of the free energy, which measures the reversible work of the proton abstraction for the quantum mechanical system. The free energy curve obtained by thermodynamic integration was used to compute the pKA value based on probabilistic determination. This technique not only reproduces the pKA value of liquid D2O experimentally measured (14.86) but also allows for a theoretical prediction of the pKA values of liquid T2O and aqueous HDO and HTO, which are unknown due to their scarcity. It is also shown that the NQEs on the free energy curve can result in a downshift of 4.5 ± 0.9 pKA units in the case of liquid water, which indicates that the NQEs plays an indispensable role in the absolute determination of pKA. Our approach differs from standard treatments, which validate force fields based on thermodynamic data. Utilizing radial distribution functions (RDFs), our results show that GAFF reproduces the AIMD-predicted asymmetric liquid structures moderately well for OP compounds that contain bulky alkyl groups. Among the OCs, RDFs obtained from FFMD overlap well with AIMD results, with some offsets in position and peak structuring. However, re-parameterization of GAFF for some OCs is needed to reproduce fully the liquid structures predicted by AIMD. The offsets between AIMD and FFMD peak positions suggest inconsistencies in the developed force fields, but, in general, GAFF is able to capture short-ranged and long-ranged interactions of OPs and OCs observed in AIMD. Along with the local coordination structure, we also compared enthalpies of vaporization. Overall, calculated bulk properties from FFMD compared reasonably well with experimental values, suggesting that small improvements within the FF should focus on parameters that adjust the bulk liquid structures of these compounds.The combination of Markov state modeling (MSM) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations has been shown in recent years to be a valuable approach to unravel the slow processes of molecular systems with increasing complexity. While the algorithms for intermediate steps in the MSM workflow such as featurization and dimensionality reduction have been specifically adapted to MD datasets, conventional clustering methods are generally applied to the discretization step. This work adds to recent efforts to develop specialized density-based clustering algorithms for the Boltzmann-weighted data from MD simulations. We introduce the volume-scaled common nearest neighbor (vs-CNN) clustering that is an adapted version of the common nearest neighbor (CNN) algorithm. A major advantage of the proposed algorithm is that the introduced density-based criterion directly links to a free-energy notion via Boltzmann inversion. Such a free-energy perspective allows a straightforward hierarchical scheme to identify conformational clusters at different levels of a generally rugged free-energy landscape of complex molecular systems.The present work introduces a new form of explicitly correlated factor in the context of the transcorrelated methods. The new correlation factor is obtained from the r12 ≈ 0 mathematical analysis of the transcorrelated Hamiltonian, and its analytical form is obtained such that the leading order in 1/r12 of the scalar part of the effective two-electron potential reproduces the long-range interaction of the range-separated density functional theory. The resulting correlation factor exactly imposes the cusp and is tuned by a unique parameter μ, which controls both the depth of the coulomb hole and its typical range in r12. The transcorrelated Hamiltonian obtained with such a new correlation factor has a straightforward analytical expression depending on the same parameter μ, and its physical contents continuously change by varying μ One can change from a non-divergent repulsive Hamiltonian at large μ to a purely attractive one at small μ. To evaluate the changes in refractive outcomes and corneal aberrations in central and paracentral keratoconus after Selective transepithelial topography-guided photorefractive keratectomy combined with Accelerated Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking (STARE-X).

One hundred eyes of 100 patients underwent STARE-X protocol. Patients were subdivided into 2 groups Group 1 with cone located within the central 3-mm zone (50 eyes); and Group 2 (50 eyes) with cone located outside the central 3-mm zone. Follow-up was two years at least for all eyes. Outcome parameters included uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA). Corneal tomography and corneal wavefront aberrations were assessed and compared before and two years after the treatment.
At 2 years UDVA, CDVA improved, as well as sphere, cylinder, K-max reduced after treatment in both groups (p<.001 respectively). Moreover, a statistically significant reduction was observed of total High-Order Aberrations Root Main Square (HOA RMS), Coma RMS and Spherical Aberration (SA RMS) in both groups (p<.001 respectively). However, CDVA improved more in Group 1 than in Group 2 (p<.02).
The STARE-X protocol demonstrated effective results in halting keratoconus progression and improving corneal regularity with a safe and effective profile. STARE-X improved both visual acuity and corneal aberration at 2 years. Longer follow-up studies are warranted to observe further long-term CXL flattening effect on the cone.

Antimicrobial susceptibility using a Sensititre method of 240 E. coli isolates showed that the most frequent resistances were against b-lactam, aminoglycoside, sulfonamide and tetracycline, however, the prevalence of AMR decreased (P less then 0.05) when birds aged in general. The prevalence of resistance to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, ceftiofur, ceftriaxone, cefoxitin, gentamicin, and sulfonamide was lower (P less then 0.05) in isolates from CIN or CIN+CIT compared to those from NC or BAC. The whole-genome sequencing analysis of 227 of the 240 isolates detected 26 AMR genes (ARGs) and 19 plasmids but the prevalence of some ARGs and plasmid numbers were lower (P less then 0.05) in E. coli isolated from CIN or CIN+CIT than NC or BAC. The most prevalent resistance genes included tet(A) (n=108), aac3_Vla (n=91), aadA1 (n=86), blaCMY-2 (n=78), sul1 (n=77), aph3_lb (n=58), aph6_ld (n=58), and sul2 (n=24). Interestingly, the number of most virulence genes (VGs) increased (P less then 0.05) over time from 6 to 27 days of age. The prevalence of isolates of serotype O21H16 was lower (P less then 0.05) in CIN and CIN+CIT while colibacillosis-associated multi-locus sequence typing (ST117) was the most prevalent in isolates from day 23. A whole genome-based phylogenetic tree revealed a close relationship of 25 of 227 isolates to human or broiler extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli. This study indicates that AMR and virulence genotypes of E. coli could be modulated by encapsulated CIN or CIN+CIT feed supplementations and prompt further investigations on the involved mechanisms.
Previous epidemiological evidence showed that type 2 diabetes (T2D) is related with gout. However, the causality and the direction of this association are still not definitely elucidated. We investigated bidirectional associations of T2D and glycemic traits with serum urate concentrations and gout using a Mendelian randomization approach.
Summary statistics from the large-scale genomewide association studies conducted for T2D (Ncase = 62 892, Ncontrol = 596 424), fasting glucose (N = 133 010), fasting insulin (N = 133 010), hemoglobin A1c (N = 123 665), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (N = 46 186), urate (N = 110 347), and gout (Ncase = 2115, Ncontrol = 67 259) among participants of European ancestry were analyzed. For each trait of interest, independent genomewide significant (P < 5 × 10-8) single nucleotide polymorphisms were selected as instrumental variables. The inverse-variance weighted method was used for the primary analyses.
Genetic predisposition to higher risk of T2D [beith risk of gout. Among them, endogenous production of hydrogen cyanide (HCN) has been shown to induce resistance in Arabidopsis to the hemibiotrophic bacterium Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato (Pst) DC3000. β-cyanoalanine synthase (CAS-C1) is responsible for the detoxification of HCN in Arabidopsis mitochondria. Here, we show that green fluorescent protein-tagged CAS-C1 is transiently reduced in leaves infected with an avirulent strain of Pst during early interactions and increased in leaves infected with a virulent strain of Pst, supporting previous transcriptional data. Genetic crosses show that mutation in CAS-C1 in Arabidopsis resembles the action of the NADPH oxidase RbohD independently of reactive oxygen species production and that the accumulation of salicylic acid is required for HCN-stimulated resistance to Pst. Finally, we show that the cas-c1 mutation acts on the salicylic acid-dependent response to pathogens by mechanisms other than protein ubiquitination or the increase of monomerization and entry to the nucleus of NPR1, the central regulator of the salicylic acid-mediated response.

A total of 15 simulated standard overhaul environments were created by burning household materials. Sampling was conducted using mannequin heads fitted with full facepiece respirators with either a CBRN canister or SCBA. In-mask and personal samples were collected for aldehydes, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, inorganic acids, aromatic hydrocarbons, nitrogen dioxide, and particulate matter. Protein structure prediction remains as one of the most important problems in computational biology and biophysics. In the past few years, protein residue-residue contact prediction has undergone substantial improvement, which has made it a critical driving force for successful protein structure prediction. Boosting the accuracy of contact predictions has, therefore, become the forefront of protein structure prediction.
We show a novel contact map refinement method, ContactGAN, which uses Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN). ContactGAN was able to make a significant improvement over predictions made by recent contact prediction methods when tested on three datasets including protein structure modeling targets in CASP13 and CASP14. We show improvement of precision in contact prediction, which translated into improvement in the accuracy of protein tertiary structure models. On the other hand, observed improvement over trRosetta was relatively small, reasons for which are discussed. ContactGAN will be a valuable addition in the structure prediction pipeline to achieve an extra gain in contact prediction accuracy.

Assigning new sequences to known protein families and subfamilies is a prerequisite for many functional, comparative and evolutionary genomics analyses. Such assignment is commonly achieved by looking for the closest sequence in a reference database, using a method such as BLAST. However, ignoring the gene phylogeny can be misleading because a query sequence does not necessarily belong to the same subfamily as its closest sequence. For example, a hemoglobin which branched out prior to the hemoglobin alpha/beta duplication could be closest to a hemoglobin alpha or beta sequence, whereas it is neither. To overcome this problem, phylogeny-driven tools have emerged but rely on gene trees, whose inference is computationally expensive.
Here, we first show that in multiple animal and plant datasets, 18 to 62% of assignments by closest sequence are misassigned, typically to an over-specific subfamily. Then, we introduce OMAmer, a novel alignment-free protein subfamily assignment method, which limits over-specific subfamily assignments and is suited to phylogenomic databases with thousands of genomes. OMAmer is based on an innovative method using evolutionarily-informed k-mers for alignment-free mapping to ancestral protein subfamilies. Whilst able to reject non-homologous family-level assignments, we show that OMAmer provides better and quicker subfamily-level assignments than approaches relying on the closest sequence, whether inferred exactly by Smith-Waterman or by the fast heuristic DIAMOND.

Family physicians (FPs) will encounter genetic concerns within community practice. To determine how FPs compare to genetic counselors (GCs), a cross-sectional survey was distributed to Canadian FPs and GCs in 2019. The survey assessed risk analysis, counseling, and management of genetic information. FPs performed less well than GCs on each survey question and scenario (p less then 0.05). Average overall survey scores for FPs were lower than GCs (62% vs. 93%, p less then 0.001). Additional genetic training for FPs may help avoid potential harm.
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has considerably affected the lives of people worldwide, impacting their health and economic welfare, and changing the behavior of our society significantly. This situation may lead to a strong incentive for people to buy a vaccine. Therefore, a relevant study to assess individuals' choices and the value of change in welfare from a COVID-19 vaccine is essential.
This study aimed to estimate the willingness-to-pay (WTP) value for a vaccine for COVID-19. We also identify the variables that influence individual vaccination decisions, which could be used in the design of vaccination promotion strategies.
We use the contingent valuation method in its double-bounded dichotomous choice format. The estimation coefficients are calculated according to the maximum likelihood method under the assumption of a probit distribution. The sample consisted of 531 individuals, mainly from middle- and high-income socioeconomic groups from Chile between enrolled between 10 July ands.The increasing complexity of healthcare emphasizes the need for continued physician leadership and leadership training. This study aims to determine baseline attitudes toward the perceptions and utility of a leadership development curriculum (LDC) for radiation oncology (RO) residents. A novel longitudinal LDC was implemented for RO residents at our institution from 2018 to 2019. Prior to the curriculum, current and past residents in our institution's RO residency program were surveyed on their attitudes towards leadership in healthcare, emotional intelligence competencies, and leadership training interests. After the completion of the LDC, a post-curriculum survey was forwarded to current residents. The response rate was 84% (21 of 24) for the baseline survey and 90% (9 of 10) for the post-curriculum survey. Having a leadership training curriculum during residency was rated as extremely useful, with top training interests involving leading clinical teams, effective communication strategies, and conflict management. After the LDC, the residents reported high satisfaction with the curriculum and utilization of leadership training into their daily work. Our LDC demonstrates significant potential to engage trainees and improve their leadership skills at the graduate medical education level.HIV-associated cardiomyopathy is a well-established sequela in people infected with HIV (PHIV). Despite significant advances in HIV management through the use of highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART), PHIV on HAART continue to have elevated risk of cardiomyopathy and heart failure, even when accounting for known cardiovascular risk factors. This review article will explore the proposed mechanisms by which chronic HIV infection induces cardiomyopathy and heart failure in the setting of HAART. Evaluation, work-up, and management of cardiomyopathy in PHIV will also be briefly discussed. The advent of HAART has altered the pathophysiology HIV-associated cardiomyopathy from a rapidly progressive cardiomyopathy, often with pericardial involvement, into a chronic process involving inflammation and persistent immune dysregulation. With the significant decrease in AIDS-related deaths, the prevalence of cardiomyopathy and the mortality associated with heart failure in PHIV have increased. Multiple immune-related and inflammatory mechanisms have been proposed, which may provide insight into evaluation and management of cardiomyopathy in PHIV.
CT angiography (CTA) has become a valuable tool in the assessment of suspected arterial injury in patients with penetrating lower extremity trauma. However, expensive imaging such as CTA should be judiciously utilized to ensure value-based care. We therefore assessed the yield of CTA in this setting at a level-1 trauma unit and correlated it with the clinical history provided.

In this work, we have applied ErYAG photoacoustic irrigation using super short pulses (ErYAG-SSP) to remove biofilms from the titanium surfaces in the non-contact mode. Mature Enterococcus faecalis biofilms were treated with saline solution, chlorhexidine, and hydrogen peroxide, or photoacoustically with ErYAG-SSP for 10 or 60 s. The number of total and viable bacteria as well as biofilm surface coverage was determined prior and after different treatments. ErYAG-SSP photoacoustic treatment significantly increases the biofilm removal rate compared to saline or chemically treated biofilms. Up to 92% of biofilm-covered surface can be cleaned in non-contact mode during 10 s without the use of abrasives or chemicals. In addition, ErYAG-SSP photoacoustic irrigation significantly decreases the number of viable bacteria that remained on the titanium surface. Within the limitations of the present in vitro model, the ERYAG-SSP seems to constitute an efficient therapeutic option for quick debridement and decontamination of titanium implants without using abrasives or chemicals.

We present a rare case of spindle cell oncocytoma (SCO) of the sella turcica with malignant histologic features and rapid progression. A 42-year-old woman experienced bilateral blurred vision and was preoperatively misdiagnosed as having a pituitary macroadenoma on magnetic resonance imaging. After surgery, SCO was diagnosed by the histopathologic features of interlacing fascicles of spindle tumor cells with finely granular, eosinophilic cytoplasm. Focal anaplastic changes and necrosis were present. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for vimentin, epithelial membrane antigen, S-100, galectin-3, and thyroid transcription factor 1. Four months later, the tumor had progressed, and second surgery with adjuvant radiotherapy was performed; the patients remains under observation. In this report, we proposed distinctive radiologic features for differential diagnosis between SCO and other pituitary tumors.The early detection and grading of dysplasia is the current standard of care to minimize mortality from colorectal cancer (CRC) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. With the development of advanced endoscopic resection techniques, colectomy is now reserved for patients with invisible/flat dysplasia (either high-grade [HGD] or multifocal low-grade dysplasia) or endoscopically unresectable lesions. Although most pathologists are familiar with the morphologic criteria of conventional (intestinal type) dysplasia, the most well-recognized form of dysplasia, an increasing number of diagnostic material has led to the recognition of several different morphologic patterns of epithelial dysplasia. The term "non-conventional" dysplasia has been coined to describe these changes, but to date, the recognition and full appreciation of these novel forms of dysplasia by practicing pathologists is uneven. The recognition of these non-conventional subtypes is becoming increasingly important, as some of them appear to have a higher risk of developing HGD or CRC than conventional dysplasia or sporadic adenomas. This review describes the morphologic characteristics of all seven non-conventional subtypes that have been reported to date as well as our current understanding of their clinicopathologic and molecular features that distinguish them from conventional dysplasia or sporadic adenomas.

To determine the causes of fetal death among the stillbirths using two classification systems from 22weeks of gestation in a period of three years in high-risk pregnancies. This is a retrospective observational study.
The National Institute of Perinatal Health in Mexico City is a Level 3 care referral center attending high-risk pregnancies from throughout the country. The population consisted of patients with fetal death during a three-year period. Between January 2016 and December 2018, all stillbirths were examined in the Pathology Department by a pathologist and a medical geneticist. Stillbirth was defined as a fetal death occurring after 22weeks of gestation.
Main outcome measures Causal analysis of fetal death using the International Statistical Classification of Disease and Related Health Problems-Perinatal Mortality (ICD-PM) and initial causes of fetal death (INCODE) classification systems. A total of 297 stillborn neonates were studied. The distribution of gestational age in antepartum stillbirths (55.2%) showed a bimodal curve, 36% occurred between 24 and 27weeks and 32% between 32 and 36weeks. In comparison, the majority (86%) of intrapartum deaths (44.8%) were less than 28weeks of gestation. Of the 273 women enrolled, 93 (34%) consented to a complete fetal autopsy. The INCODE system showed a present cause in 42%, a possible cause in 54% and a probable cause in 93% of patients.

There has been increasing recognition of the significant relationship between the autonomic nervous system and cardiovascular sequel in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. Diabetic cardiac autonomic neuropathy (DCAN) still poses a treatment challenge in the clinical settings despite several research interventions. This study was designed to investigate the effect of carvedilol on experimentally induced DCAN in type 2 DM rat model.
DCAN was induced in 42 Wistar rats using high fat diet (HFD) for eight weeks, thereafter streptozotocin (STZ) at 25mg/kg daily for five days. We present a rare case of spindle cell oncocytoma (SCO) of the sella turcica with malignant histologic features and rapid progression. A 42-year-old woman experienced bilateral blurred vision and was preoperatively misdiagnosed as having a pituitary macroadenoma on magnetic resonance imaging. After surgery, SCO was diagnosed by the histopathologic features of interlacing fascicles of spindle tumor cells with finely granular, eosinophilic cytoplasm. Focal anaplastic changes and necrosis were present. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for vimentin, epithelial membrane antigen, S-100, galectin-3, and thyroid transcription factor 1. Four months later, the tumor had progressed, and second surgery with adjuvant radiotherapy was performed; the patients remains under observation. This is a retrospective observational study. The National Institute of Perinatal Health in Mexico City is a Level 3 care referral center attending high-risk pregnancies from throughout the country. The population consisted of patients with fetal death during a three-year period. Between January 2016 and December 2018, all stillbirths were examined in the Pathology Department by a pathologist and a medical geneticist. Stillbirth was defined as a fetal death occurring after 22weeks of gestation. During the debates about the legalization of Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) in Victoria, Australia, the presence of anti-VAD health professionals in the medical community and reported high rates of conscientious objection (CO) to VAD suggested access may be limited. Most empirical research on CO has been conducted in the sexual and reproductive health context. However, given the fundamental differences in the nature of such procedures and the legislation governing it, these findings may not be directly transferable to VAD. Accordingly, we sought to understand how CO operates in the context of VAD. Prior to the implementation of the VAD legislation in June 2019, we conducted semi-structured interviews with seventeen health professionals with a self-declared CO to VAD, to explore what motivated their CO. Participants identified multiple motivations, which can be broadly categorized as concerns for oneself; concerns for patients; concerns about the current Victorian legislation; and concerns for the medical profession. Participants' moral commitments included personal, professional, and political commitments. In some cases, one's CO was specific to Victoria's current legislation rather than VAD more broadly. Our findings suggest CO motivations extend beyond those traditionally cited and suggest a need to better understand and manage CO in the healthcare context.Past anatomical dissection practice has received recent attention in the humanities and social science literature, especially in a number of popular format books. Not too infrequently these same authors/publishers resort to sensationalist language in titles, text, and/or promotion blurbs in a bid to grab attention and sell books. These actions, yet again, exploit dissection subjects for commercial purposes. The use of insensitive and sensationalist language that is designed to shock, fails to set good precedent for young impressionable students and paints an entirely backward picture of modern-day anatomy for intending or existing donors and their families. We suggest that all who participate in anatomical endeavours should strive to do so with reverence toward the dead, including armchair journalists and humanities authors who, just like their hands-on anatomical colleagues, should employ dignified, sensitive, and respectful language that is not sensationalist.Systematic study of the intersection of ethics consultation services and solid organ transplants and recipients can identify and illustrate ethical issues that arise in the clinical care of these patients, including challenges beyond resource allocation. This was a single-centre, retrospective cohort study of all adult ethics consultations between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2017, at a large academic medical centre in the north-eastern United States. Of the 880 ethics consultations, sixty (6.8 per cent ) involved solid organ transplant, thirty-nine (65.0 per cent) for candidates and twenty-one (35.0 per cent ) for recipients. While medical technology should be available to enhance reproductive opportunity, infertile individuals will benefit from regulatory change which disentangles the medico-legal construct of infertility as a disease from the desire to create a family. This paper suggests that the medico-legal model of infertility should be reframed to support all opportunities for family creation equally, including non-medical opportunities such as adoption, fostering, and childlessness.
Non-lamellar liquid crystal (NLLC)-forming lipids have gained attention as a novel component because of their ability to self-assemble upon contact with body fluids. In this study, a novel NLLC-forming lipid, mono-O-(5, 9, 13-trimethyl-4-tetradecenyl) glycerol ester (C17MGE), and a model drug with a middle molecule weight, leuprolide acetate (LA), were used to confirm the usefulness of C17MGE as an excipient for depot formulations with sustained release properties.
A self-constructed depot formulation was prepared by mixing C17MGE and different types of phospholipids. The constructed NLLC structure was evaluated using small angle X-ray analysis and cryo-transmission electron microscopy. In vitro release and blood concentration profiles of LA were investigated.
The NLLC structure was confirmed by small angle X-ray analysis. LA release was able to be modified by adding different ratios of various phospholipids to C17MGE. Formulations containing 1, 2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoglycerol sodium salt with a mixing ratio of 12% or 24% (M

These tumors encompassed a spectrum from benign to malignant and included seromucinous cystadenoma/ cystadenofibroma, seromucinous borderline tumor/atypical proliferative seromucinous tumor and seromucinous carcinoma. However, the 2020 WHO Classification of Female Genital Tumours removed seromucinous carcinomas as a distinct entity and recategorized them as Endometrioid carcinomas with mucinous differentiation. Here we describe clinico-morphologic features of seromucinous tumors recategorizing cases originally diagnosed as seromucinous carcinoma in light of 2020 WHO classification and present detailed review of literature.
Slides of seromucinous tumors were reviewed. Special emphasis was given to evaluation of stromal invasion. Follow-up was obtained.

However, these were recategorized in light of the 2020 WHO Classification of Female Genital tumors as endometrioid carcinomas with mucinous differentiation. To illustrate the public health potential of linking individual bedside data with community-based household data in a poor rural setting, we estimated excess pediatric mortality risk after discharge from St Francis Designated District Hospital in Ifakara, Tanzania.
Linked data from demographic and clinical surveillance were used to describe post-discharge mortality and survival probability in children aged < 5years, by age group and cause of admission. Cox regression models were developed to identify risk factors.
Between March 2003 and March 2007, demographic surveillance included 28,910 children aged 0 to 5years and among them 831 (3%) were admitted at least once to the district hospital. From all the children under the demographic surveillance 57,880 person years and 1381 deaths were observed in 24months of follow up. Survivors of hospital discharge aged 0-5years were almost two times more likely to die than children of the same age in the community who had not been admitted (RR = 1.9, P < 0.01t families may need additional support post hospitalization.
To assess the validity and reliability of the Japanese version of the Daily Record of Severity of Problems (J-DRSP, 24 items) for evaluating symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and to develop a short form version of the J-DRSP.
Using the "DRSP-JAPAN" smartphone app, we collected daily J-DRSP records from cycle day - 6 (CD - 6) to CD 10, with CD 1 representing the menstruation onset date. Factorial validity (exploratory factor analysis EFA, confirmatory factor analysis CFA) and criterion validity were examined, and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation ICC) evaluated. The short-form version of the J-DRSP was developed using classical test theory.
In total, 304 women participated and 243 recorded symptoms on at least 4 days spanning the week of the luteal phase (CD - 6 to CD 0) and 4 days spanning the week of the follicular phase (CD 4 to CD 10), with CD 0 set as the day before menstruation started. The EFA revealed a two-factor structure. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin was 0.992, and Bartlett's test octure and can be used effectively among Japanese women to assess their PMS symptoms.

In this study, we identified and structurally and biochemically characterized a novel Dsb-like protein from Salmonella enterica termed bovine colonization factor protein H (BcfH) and defined its role in virulence. Results In the conserved bovine colonization factor (bcf) fimbrial operon, the Dsb-like enzyme BcfH forms a trimeric structure, exceptionally uncommon among the large and evolutionary conserved TRX superfamily. This protein also displays very unusual catalytic redox centers, including an unwound α-helix holding the redox active site and a trans-proline instead of the conserved cis-proline active site loop. Remarkably, BcfH displays both thiol oxidase and disulfide isomerase activities contributing to Salmonella fimbrial biogenesis. Innovation and Conclusion Typically, oligomerization of bacterial Dsb proteins modulates their redox function, with monomeric and dimeric Dsbs mediating thiol oxidation and disulfide isomerization, respectively. To report the effect of lower eyelid temporalis fascia sling combined with lateral canthoplasty and tarsorrhaphy for paralytic ectropion.
Prospective case series of 10 patients with lower lid paralytic ectropion who were treated with lower eyelid fascia temporalis sling and lateral canthoplasty in addition to lateral tarsorrhaphy as a single-session procedure. Additional medial tarsorrhaphy was applied if the medial lower lid apposition was not adequate at the end of the procedures. Eyelid configuration and function were compared before and after surgery.
The mean age of patients was 65.8 ± 10 years. Mean marginal reflex distance 1 (MRD1) and MRD2 changed from 3.5 ± 1.4 and 8.6 ± 2.4 mm to 2.2 ± 1.4 and 5.3 ± 1.2 mm respectively (

The primary outcome was the proportion of completely healed chronic ulcers. Critical Issues Seventeen randomized controlled trials were included. In autologous PRP (APRP) and homologous PRP (HPRP) subgroups, there were statistical differences between the control group versus treatment subgroup (pooled RR = 1.30, 95% CI = 1.10 to 1.54, I2 = 25.7%; pooled RR = 3.53, 95% CI = 1.94 to 6.43, I2 = 0.0%, respectively). In terms of percent of chronic ulcers area healed, there was a statistically significant difference between the PRP-treated group versus the control group (standard mean difference [SMD] = 1.37, 95% CI = 0.91 to 1.82, I2 = 22.1%). For our primary objective, data from 1333 children were used to establish reference intervals for ferritin, iron, transferrin and transferrin saturation. Following the CLSI C28-A3 guidelines, the 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles with corresponding 90% confidence intervals, were estimated by the nonparametric method. None of the measured analytes required partitioning for age or sex. The prevalence of iron deficiency was 8.2%, which is higher than reported in other populations.

Blood samples were obtained from 1355 healthy children 6-12 years of age participating in the Health Oriented Pedagogical Project (HOPP). For our primary objective, data from 1333 children were used to establish reference intervals for ferritin, iron, transferrin and transferrin saturation. After International Health Regulation (IHR) amendment annex7 (July 2016), it was accepted that a single dose confers lifelong immunity. Since pre-travel advice is as important as vaccination when traveling, it is essential to clarify why travelers come to a travel health consultation, with the possibility of IHR amendment having a negative impact on travelers' health. This study aims to describe travelers' reasons to come to a pre-travel consultation in Lisbon and if they would return if they wouldn't need the YF vaccine booster.
An observational cross-sectional study was conducted during 5 months in the waiting room of Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical travel clinic in Lisbon, Portugal. Travelers were asked about sociodemographic characteristics, destination country, travel duration and reasons to travel in an anonymous self-administered questionnaire.
A total of 1043 travelers agreed to participate in the study. Although 61.0% (627/1028) did not come to the clinic to get the YF vaccine, from those who did, 36.7% (133/362) would not come and 12.9% (47/362) didn't knew if they would come if the vaccine would not be necessary.

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) exosomes have been shown to be able to facilitate axonal growth and act as mediators to regulate neurogenesis and neuroprotection, holding great therapeutic potential in SCI conditions. This study aimed to assess the potential of human placental MSC (hpMSC)-derived exosomes on the functional recovery and reactivation of endogenous neurogenesis in an experimental animal model of SCI and to explore the possible mechanisms involved.

Osteoporosis (OP) is a metabolic bone disease due to the imbalance of osteogenesis and bone resorption, in which, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) have a significant effect as the seed cells. Recent research has shown the function of Morusin on inhibiting osteoclast differentiation in vitro. However, whether Morusin can regulate the osteogenic differentiation in addition to the proliferation of BMSCs remains unclear.
BMSCs were isolated from 4-week-old Wistar rats and then treated with different concentrations of Morusin for 3, 5, 7, and 14 days. The proliferation of BMSCs was detected by MTT assay. The effect of Morusin on osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs was detected by RT-qPCR, Western blotting, ALP, and Alizarin Red staining. The effect of Morusin on Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway was analyzed by RT-qPCR, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence. Finally, in the ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis model, the anti-osteoporosis activity of Morusin was determined by micro-CT, HE, and immunohistochemistry.

Opioid misuse, addiction, and related harm is a global crisis that affects public health and social and economic welfare. Many of the strategies being used to combat the opioid crisis could benefit from improved access and dissemination, such as that afforded by smartphone apps. The goal of this study was to characterize the purpose, audience, quality and popularity of opioid-related smartphone apps. Using web scraping, available information from 619 opioid-related apps (e.g., popularity metrics) was downloaded from Google Play, and 59 apps met criteria for review. The apps were additionally coded for quality by two raters using an 8-item screener for the American Psychiatric Association App Evaluation Model.
Sixty one percent of apps targeted patients, 29% providers, 8% the general community, and 2% healthcare trainees. Regarding app purpose, 49% addressed treatment, 27% prevention, and 24% overdose. Only one app met all criteria on the screener for quality, and there was no association between a total s consistent with strategies to address the opioid crisis (prevention, treatment, overdose). However, there was little evidence that available opioid-related apps meet basic quality standards, and no relationship was found between app quality and popularity. This review was conducted at the level of consumer decision-making (i.e., the app store), where only a handful of opioid-related apps met quality standards enough to warrant a more detailed evaluation of the app before recommendation for use. Because smartphone apps could be a critical tool to increase access to and utilization of opioid prevention, treatment, and recovery services, further development and testing is sorely needed.
Marijuana (MJ) is one of the most commonly used drugs among adolescents. Exposure to MJ during adolescence can lead to alterations in brain development, and, subsequently to the behavioral correlates regulated by the affected brain regions. In this review, we discuss findings from preclinical and human studies examining the relationship between adolescent MJ use and the neurobiological and behavioral correlates associated with it.
Current findings indicate that adolescent MJ use is associated with alterations in brain structure and function, especially in regions that express high levels of the cannabinoid 1 receptor such as the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, cerebellum and limbic regions. These alterations are correlated with changes in affective, cognitive and reward-seeking behavior. Furthermore, evidence suggests that exposure to MJ during adolescence can have long-lasting and pronounced neural and behavioral effects into adulthood.
The wide ranging neural and behavioral correlates associated with MJ use during adolescence highlight the need for further studies to better understand the potential risk factors and/or neurotoxic effects of adolescent MJ use.

Rare reports of skip lesions have previously been reported in the literature. We present a case of skip lesions known prior to surgery and managed by pull-through of the right colon that allowed the preservation of the colon.Background Hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage is one of the most common cerebrovascular diseases with high mortality and high disability rate. The aim of this study was to observe the curative effect of minimally invasive liquefaction and drainage of hypertensive putaminal hemorrhage (HPH) through frontal approach. Methods This study retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of 66 HPH patients who underwent surgery from January 2012 to January 2017 including 35 males and 31 females, aged 51 to 82 years, with an average age of 61.6 ± 7.32 years. All patients were treated in the first people's hospital of Kunshan. They were divided into two groups puncture thrombolysis and drainage therapy (PTDT) group and conventional craniotomy (CC) group. Result The pulmonary infection rate in PTDT group was 13.8%, significantly lower than that of 27.7% in CC group ( p 0.05). In patients with GCS 9 to 13 scores, the mRS score of PTDT group was 1.83 ± 0.69, which was significantly better than that of CC group (2.06 ± 0.74) ( p less then 0.05). Conclusion HPH can be treated effectively through PTDT. PTDT group has lower lung infection rate than CC group. And it can significantly improve the prognosis of patients with preoperative bleeding volume of 30 to 60 mL and preoperative GCS score of 9 to 13.Objective The main purpose of this article is to determine if vestibular schwannoma consistency as determined by tissue intensity on T2-weighted magnetic resonance imagings (MRIs) is predictive of intraoperative experience and postoperative clinical outcomes. Results Tumor consistency determined via tissue intensity on MRI was only found to correlate with surgical time, with a softer tumor being associated with a longer surgical time ( p less then 0.0001). However, this was primarily driven by tumor volume with larger tumors being associated with longer surgical time based on multivariate analysis. None of the other intraoperative or postoperative measures considered were found to correlate with tumor consistency.
