Results The segmentation technique is validated in a public dataset (NIH Pancreas-CT) with 82 abdominal contrast enhanced 3D CT scans. Four-fold cross-validation is performed to assess the capability and robustness of our method. The Dice similarity coefficient, sensitivity and specificity of our results are 8621±437%, 8749±638% and 8511 ± 649% respectively, which is the state-of-the-art performance in this dataset. Conclusions We proposed an automatic pancreas segmentation framework and validate in an open dataset. It is found that 2.5D network benefits from multi-level slice interaction and suitable self-supervised learning method for pre-training can boost the performance of neural network. The recommendations of the Swiss Federal Commission for Nutrition include a supplement of 600 IU of vitamin D to all pregnant women, despite the lack of data for this population in Switzerland. The primary aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among the population of pregnant women receiving prenatal care and giving birth at our clinic. We assumed that the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in pregnant women in Switzerth weight and length. Conclusion We performed a retrospective analysis of serum 25(OH)D concentrations in pregnant Swiss women and found a mean serum 25(OH)D level of about 37 nmol/l and that one third of the overall study population had a serum 25(OH)D level below 25 nmol/l, and were thus seriously vitamin D deficient. Furthermore, the data demonstrate that vitamin D deficiency is associated with gestational diabetes. The current recommendations of vitamin D supplementation of 600 IU in pregnant women are therefore insufficient, and novel strategies, such as general screening for vitamin D deficiency, pre-conceptional timing of the supplementation and individually tailored dosing of vitamin D supplementation seem mandatory, potentially leading to improved maternal health and benefits to children’s long-term health in Switzerland and worldwide. Both worked at an international airport, but no source of infection was identified.Background The appropriate treatment of alar rim deformities, such as alar pinching or concavity, and soft triangle notching, is essential for perfecting nasal aesthetics. Objective We introduce the "mono-unit alar rim graft" technique as a treatment option for these abnormalities. Methods A case series of 29 rhinoplasties conducted by the senior author between May 2017 and June 2019 using the mono-unit alar rim graft technique was retrospectively reviewed. The surgical technique involved an open approach with costal cartilage harvesting. The cortical portion of the harvested costal cartilage was sectioned into a 1 mm thick strip and soaked with saline for about 15 minutes to let the natural warping occur. The curved cartilage graft was then trimmed, and the midportion was sutured to the tip in an onlay fashion. Both ends of the graft were housed in the vestibular pocket. Patient demographic data and pre- and postoperative facial photos were reviewed. Results Among the 29 cases analyzed, 14 (48.3%) were men and 15 (51.7%) were women. Ten (34.5%) patients had a preoperative parenthesis deformity but a near-complete correction was achieved in 8 (80.0%) cases. An alar concavity from the basal view was found in 16 patients, 15 (93.8%) of whom had a partial or near-complete correction. Eleven patients had soft triangle notching, 9 (81.8%) of whom had a partial or near-complete correction. There were no technique-related complications in this patient series. Conclusions The mono-unit alar rim graft technique is a viable option for treating various alar rim deformities.

The present study aimed to determine the effect of Hibiscus sabdariffa and Zingiber officinale on antihypertensive activity and pharmacokinetic of losartan in hypertensive rats.Hypertension was induced in rats by oral administration of L-NAME (40 mg/kg per day). Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of losartan were evaluated without and with herbal treatment in hypertensive rats.Treatment of hypertensive rats with investigated herbs substantially reduced systolic blood pressure (SBP), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of rats. Treatment of rats (n = 5) with L-NAME plus H. sabdariffa plus losartan and L-NAME plus Z. officinale plus losartan reduced SBP by 16.20% and 14.88% and DBP by 14.82% and 17.52% respectively after 12 h, as compared to L-NAME alone treated rats. In a pharmacokinetic study, the Cmax and AUC0-t of losartan in L-NAME plus H. sabdariffa plus losartan and L-NAME plus Z. officinale plus losartan treated rats was increased by 0.7, 1.99 and 1.51, 3.00 fold respectively in comparison to the Cmax and AUC0-t obtained for L-NAME plus losartan treated group. In conclusion, both the investigated herbs significantly increased the antihypertensive effect and plasma concentration of losartan in L-NAME induced hypertensive rats. The current study predicted that the herb-drug interaction between H. sabdariffa-losartan and Z. officinale-losartan could occur; hence these results in rats may warrant further studies in humans, either in humans or in in vitro human liver microsomes.1. AIMS By applying a text-mining approach, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between drugs for psychosis and biological sex differences in frequencies and co-occurrences of potential adverse drug events (ADEs). METHODS Electronic patient records of a psychiatric population (1427 men and 727 women) were text mined for potential ADEs. The relative risk of experiencing specific ADEs and co-occurrence of ADEs were calculated for each sex. RESULTS Findings included 55 potential ADEs with significantly different frequencies between the two sexes. Of these, 20 were more frequent in men, with relative risks of 1.10-7.64, and 35 were more frequent in women, with relative risks of 1.19-21.58. Frequent potential ADEs were psychiatric symptoms, including sexual dysfunction and disturbances in men, and gastrointestinal symptoms, suicidal and self-injurious behaviour and hyperprolactinemia-related events in women. Mention of different hyperprolactinemia-related ADEs often co-occurred in female patients but not in male patients. CONCLUSION Several known sex-related ADEs were identified, as well as some previously not reported. Actigraphic measures of sleep quantity and daytime activity were compared between groups classified as coffee+/coffee-, tobacco+/tobacco- and alcohol+/alcohol-, defined according to their current daily use. Then, we examined potential correlations between sleep/wake cycle parameters and the amount of daily consumption of each substance. Multivariable analyses identified associations between the use of coffee, tobacco, and alcohol and several sleep and activity parameters, such as between coffee, alcohol, and the relative amplitude of activity (respectively, p = .003 and p = .005), between alcohol and M10 onset (onset time of the 10 most active hours during the 24-h cycle) (p = .003), and between coffee and sleep duration (p = .047). This study supports the hypothesis that there is a relationship, whose direction would be bidirectional, between the daily use of these substances and the sleep/wake cycle in euthymic individuals with BD. Data extraction was carried out by two independent reviewers. The Jadad scale was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the studies included. RESULTS In total, 12 clinical trials were selected, and 611 patients were examined. Studies were classified into six interventions sexual therapy (4), pharmaceutical drugs (3), pelvic floor exercises (2), yoga (1), mindfulness (1) and vaginal devices (1).

Long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs) are long non‑coding transcripts from the intergenic regions of annotated protein‑coding genes. lincRNA cyclooxygenase 2 (Cox2) is an early‑primary response gene regulated by the NF‑κB signaling pathway in macrophages. It was found that lincRNACox2 was significantly increased in patients with the Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) H37Ra strain infection and macrophages, using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT‑qPCR). ELISA, western blotting and RT‑qPCR results indicated that the inflammatory response factors tumor necrosis factor‑α, interferon‑γ, interleukin‑6, Cox2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase were significantly increased in H37Ra infected macrophages. In addition, the inflammatory regulating proteins NF‑κB and Stat3 were significantly increased in H37Ra infected macrophages but decreased in lincRNACox2 knockdown macrophages infected with H37Ra. Moreover, the knockdown of lincRNACox2 increased the apoptotic rate of H37Ra infected macrophages and facilitated the proliferation of H37Ra. Collectively, the present results suggested that lincRNACox2 may be required for the activation of NF‑κB and Stat3, in order to regulate inflammatory responses involved in resistance to M. tuberculosis infection.The existence of cancer stem cells (CSCs) is considered to be the main reason for chemoresistance, metastasis and the ultimate failure of treatment in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, there are a few chemical agents that may inhibit CSCs. The present study identified that 4,4'‑bond secalonic acid D (4,4'‑SAD), a compound isolated from the marine‑derived fungus Penicillium oxalicum, inhibited the growth of side population (SP) cells isolated from human liver cancer cell lines PLC/PRF/5 and HuH‑7 by attenuating the expression of ATP‑binding cassette superfamily G member 2. Furthermore, the results of wound healing, Transwell, western blotting and reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR assays demonstrated that 4,4'‑SAD suppressed the invasion and migration of SP cells by downregulating matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP‑9) and upregulating the antagonist tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases 1 in vitro. Moreover, in vivo study results found that 4,4'‑SAD had anti‑lung metastasis efficacy via the decrease of MMP‑9 expression in the H22 HCC model of Kunming ****. Therefore, the present study identified the potential of 4,4'‑SAD as a promising candidate for the treatment of advanced liver cancer.Runt‑related transcription factor 3 (RUNX3) is a candidate tumor suppressor, and its inactivation may play a crucial role in the carcinogenesis process of numerous cancer types, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). We previously revealed that RUNX3 inactivation was correlated with lymph node metastasis (LNM) and ESCC recurrence. However, the exact mechanisms of this process are still under investigation. The aim of the present study was to examine the potential roles and underlying molecular mechanisms of RUNX3 in ESCC metastasis and the epithelial‑mesenchymal transition (EMT). According to the results, RUNX3 expression in ESCC tissue was significantly reduced compared with that in adjacent normal tissue (0.50±0.20 vs. 0.83±0.16; P less then 0.001). In addition, statistical analysis revealed a close association between decreased RUNX3 expression and T status (P=0.027) and LNM (P=0.017) in ESCC patients. Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis was then used to evaluate correlations between RUNX3 and EMT‑related marker expression. Long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs) are long non‑coding transcripts from the intergenic regions of annotated protein‑coding genes. lincRNA cyclooxygenase 2 (Cox2) is an early‑primary response gene regulated by the NF‑κB signaling pathway in macrophages. It was found that lincRNACox2 was significantly increased in patients with the Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) H37Ra strain infection and macrophages, using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT‑qPCR). ELISA, western blotting and RT‑qPCR results indicated that the inflammatory response factors tumor necrosis factor‑α, interferon‑γ, interleukin‑6, Cox2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase were significantly increased in H37Ra infected macrophages. In addition, the inflammatory regulating proteins NF‑κB and Stat3 were significantly increased in H37Ra infected macrophages but decreased in lincRNACox2 knockdown macrophages infected with H37Ra. Moreover, the knockdown of lincRNACox2 increased the apoptotic rate of H37Ra infected macrophages and facilitated the proliferation of H37Ra. However, there are a few chemical agents that may inhibit CSCs. The present study identified that 4,4'‑bond secalonic acid D (4,4'‑SAD), a compound isolated from the marine‑derived fungus Penicillium oxalicum, inhibited the growth of side population (SP) cells isolated from human liver cancer cell lines PLC/PRF/5 and HuH‑7 by attenuating the expression of ATP‑binding cassette superfamily G member 2. Furthermore, the results of wound healing, Transwell, western blotting and reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR assays demonstrated that 4,4'‑SAD suppressed the invasion and migration of SP cells by downregulating matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP‑9) and upregulating the antagonist tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases 1 in vitro. Acyanotic CHD constituted 96.3% of detected cases. Two children diagnosed with CHD (Tetralogy of Fallot and severe pulmonary valve stenosis respectively) had successful intervention. The prevalence of previously undiagnosed CHD among school children in Lagos Nigeria is substantial and highlights gaps in the health care system and school health programs. Echocardiographic screening of school children provides an opportunity for missed early diagnosis and treatment of CHD and reduces the prevalence of first-diagnosed CHD in adulthood. We have previously shown that choline pretreatment of CGN partially prevents ethanol toxicity through improving L1 function in vitro. Here we show that choline supplementation reduces the impact of ethanol on L1 in cerebellum in vivo. METHODS Pregnant rat dams were placed on choline free diet on gestational Day 5 (G5). Pups were treated with saline or choline from postnatal day (P) 1-5. On P5, pups were intubated twice 2 hr apart with ethanol or Intralipid® for a total dose of 6 g/kg/d and sacrificed 1 hr after the last intubation. The cerebella were harvested and L1 phosphorylation/dephosphorylation status and distribution in DRM were analyzed. RESULTS Ethanol reduced L1 tyrosine phosphorylation and L1-Y1176 dephosphorylation in cerebella, and caused an increase in the percent of L1 in DRM. Choline supplementation of pups reduced the ethanol-induced changes in L1 phosphorylation status and ameliorated ethanol-induced redistribution of L1 into DRM. CKD is a major cause of catastrophic health expenditure. The costs of dialysis and transplantation consume up to 3% of the entire annual healthcare budget in high-income countries. Crucially, however, both the onset and progression of CKD is potentially preventable. In 2020, the World Kidney Day campaign highlights the importance of preventive interventions-be it primary, i.e. to prevent de novo CKD, or secondary or tertiary, i.e. prevention of worsening early CKD or progression of more advanced CKD to end-stage kidney disease, respectively. Primary prevention should focus on the modification of CKD risk factors and address the structural abnormalities of the kidney and urinary tracts, and exposure to environmental risk factors and nephrotoxins. In persons with pre-existing kidney disease, secondary prevention, including blood pressure optimization, glycemic control and avoiding high-protein high-sodium diet should be the main goal of education and clinical interventions. In patients with moderate to advanced CKD, the management of comorbidities such as uremia and cardiovascular disease along with low-protein diet are among the recommended preventative interventions to avoid or delay dialysis or kidney transplantation. Whereas national policies and strategies for noncommunicable diseases may exist in a country, specific policies directed toward education and awareness about CKD screening, prevention and treatment are often lacking. Using established in vivo and in vitro POAG models, we demonstrated that water channel Aquaporin 1 (AQP1) is down-regulated in trabecular meshwork (TM) cells upon ET-1 exposure, which causes a series of glaucomatous changes, including actin fibre reorganization, collagen production, extracellular matrix deposition and contractility alteration of TM cells. Ectopic expression of AQP1 can reverse ET-1-induced TM tissue remodelling, which requires the presence of β-catenin. More importantly, we found that ET-1-induced AQP1 suppression is mediated by ATF4, a transcription factor of the unfolded protein response, which binds to the promoter of AQP1 and negatively regulates AQP1 transcription. In addition to the classical features of COFS, the fetuses display thymus hyperplasia, splenomegaly and increased hematopoiesis. Microencephaly is present in the three fetuses with delayed development of the gyri, but normal microscopic anatomy at the supratentorial level. Microscopic anomalies reminiscent of pontocerebellar hypoplasia are present at the infratentorial level. In conclusion, COFS syndrome should be considered in fetuses when intrauterine growth retardation is associated with microcephaly, arthrogryposis and ocular anomalies. Further studies are needed to better understand XPG functions during human development.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is now spreading as a pandemic ravaging the whole world. In the absence of a vaccine and an effective antiviral chemotherapy, there is currently an intense global interest in repositioning chloroquine (CQ) and its derivative hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to combat the pandemic. CQ has been used for decades for the treatment and prophylaxis against malaria in endemic countries. It is readily available and has also been manufactured in these countries. CQ is cheap, stable under field conditions and has been well tolerated as an antimalarial. This experience could be adapted to deploy CQ or HCQ for prophylaxis or treatment of COVID19 if strong evidence could be generated for these uses. We believe that well-designed drug trials should be initiated in malaria-endemic countries, taking into account the local context of the epidemic and the capacity of the health system in combating it. In this paper, we are presenting the current status of evidence for using CQ and HCQ against COVID19.A third of US students are suspended over a K-12 school career. Suspended youth have worse adult outcomes than non-suspended students, but these outcomes could be due to selection bias that is, suspended youth may have had worse outcomes even without suspension. This study compares the educational and criminal justice outcomes of 480 youth suspended for the first time with those of 1193 matched non-suspended youth from a nationally representative sample. Prior to suspension, the suspended and non-suspended youth did not differ on 60 pre-suspension variables including students' self-reported delinquency and risk behaviors, parents' reports of socioeconomic status, and administrators' reports of school disciplinary policies. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is now spreading as a pandemic ravaging the whole world. In the absence of a vaccine and an effective antiviral chemotherapy, there is currently an intense global interest in repositioning chloroquine (CQ) and its derivative hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to combat the pandemic. CQ has been used for decades for the treatment and prophylaxis against malaria in endemic countries. It is readily available and has also been manufactured in these countries. CQ is cheap, stable under field conditions and has been well tolerated as an antimalarial. This experience could be adapted to deploy CQ or HCQ for prophylaxis or treatment of COVID19 if strong evidence could be generated for these uses. We believe that well-designed drug trials should be initiated in malaria-endemic countries, taking into account the local context of the epidemic and the capacity of the health system in combating it. Suspended youth have worse adult outcomes than non-suspended students, but these outcomes could be due to selection bias that is, suspended youth may have had worse outcomes even without suspension. This study compares the educational and criminal justice outcomes of 480 youth suspended for the first time with those of 1193 matched non-suspended youth from a nationally representative sample. Prior to suspension, the suspended and non-suspended youth did not differ on 60 pre-suspension variables including students' self-reported delinquency and risk behaviors, parents' reports of socioeconomic status, and administrators' reports of school disciplinary policies. Decellularized tendon scaffolds (DTS) were treated with bacterial collagenase with or without external or cell-mediated internal tension. External tension producing strains of 2-4% significantly reduced collagen degradation compared with non-tensioned controls. Internal tension exerted by human fibroblasts seeded on DTS significantly reduced the area of the scaffolds compared to acellular controls and inhibited collagen degradation compared to free-floating DTS. Treatment of cell-seeded DTS with 50 mM blebbistatin restored susceptibility to collagenase degradation, which was significantly greater than in untreated controls (p less then 0.01). BCL was chosen as an example of a poor water-soluble API. Two separate datasets were created one from literature data and another based on in-house experimental data. Computational experiments were conducted using artificial intelligence tools based on machine learning (AI/ML) with a plethora of techniques including artificial neural networks, decision trees, rule-based systems, and evolutionary computations. The latter resulting in classical mathematical equations provided models characterized by the lowest prediction error. In-house data turned out to be more homogeneous, as well as formulations were more extensively characterized than literature-based data. Thus, in-house data resulted in better models than literature-based data set. Among the other covariates, the best model uses for prediction of BCL dissolution profile the transmittance from IR spectrum at 1260 cm-1 wavenumber. Ab initio modeling-based in silico simulations were conducted to reveal potential BCL-excipients interaction. All crucial variables were selected automatically by AI/ML tools and resulted in reasonably simple and yet predictive models suitable for application in Quality by Design (QbD) approaches. This study reports the chemical fractionation on M by which to obtain subfractions( I and M_3),and the pharmacological evaluation of M,I,and M_3 against myocardial ischemia in ****. The most effective anti-inflammatory drugs employed so far in severe COVID-19 belong to the cytokine-directed biological agents, widely used in the management of many autoimmune diseases. In this paper we analyze the efficacy of epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG), the most abundant ingredient in green tea leaves and a well-known antioxidant, in counteracting autoimmune diseases, which are dominated by a massive cytokines production. Indeed, many studies registered that EGCG inhibits signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT)1/3 and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) transcription factors, whose activities are crucial in a multiplicity of downstream pro-inflammatory signaling pathways. Importantly, the safety of EGCG/green tea extract supplementation is well documented in many clinical trials, as discussed in this review. Since EGCG can restore the natural immunological homeostasis in many different autoimmune diseases, we propose here a supplementation therapy with EGCG in COVID-19 patients. Besides some antiviral and anti-sepsis actions, the major EGCG benefits lie in its anti-fibrotic effect and in the ability to simultaneously downregulate expression and signaling of many inflammatory mediators. In conclusion, EGCG can be considered a potential safe natural supplement to counteract hyper-inflammation growing in COVID-19.The environmental dissemination of selected antibiotics from hospital wastewater into municipal wastewater and lastly to a receiving water body was investigated. Selected antibiotics (azithromycin (AZM), ciprofloxacin (CIP), clindamycin (CDM), doxycycline (DXC) and sulfamethoxazole (SMZ)) present in effluents of academic hospital wastewater, influents, sewage sludge, and effluents of municipal wastewater, receiving water, and its benthic sediment samples were quantified using the Acquity® Waters Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography System hyphenated with a Waters Synapt G2 coupled to a quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The overall results showed that all assessed antibiotics were found in all matrices. For solid matrices, river sediment samples had elevated concentrations with mean concentrations of 34,834, 35,623, 50,913, 55,263, and 41,781 ng/g for AZM, CIP, CDM, DXC, and SMZ, respectively, whereas for liquid samples, hospital wastewater and influent of wastewater had the highest concentrations. The lowest concentrations were observed in river water, with mean concentrations of 11, 97, 15, and 123 ng/L, except for CDM, which was 18 ng/L in the effluent of wastewater. The results showed that the highest percentages of antibiotics removed was SMZ with 90%, followed by DXC, AZM and CIP with a removal efficiency of 85%, 83%, and 83%, respectively. The antibiotic that showed the lowest removal percentage was CDM with 66%. However, the calculated environmental dissemination analysis through the use of mass load calculations revealed daily release of 15,486, 14,934, 1526, 922, and 680 mg/d for SMZ, CIP, AZM, DXC, and CDM, respectively, indicating a substantial release of selected antibiotics from wastewater to the river system, where they are possibly adsorbed in the river sediment. Further research into the efficient removal of antibiotics from wastewater and the identification of antibiotic sources in river sediment is needed.The development of neural circuits is a complex process that relies on the proper navigation of axons through their environment to their appropriate targets. This review outlines the recent advances in identifying the molecular mechanisms of trans-axonal signaling and discusses the role of axon-axon interactions during the different steps of neural circuit formation.Gene networks have arisen as a promising tool in the comprehensive modeling and analysis of complex diseases. Particularly in viral infections, the understanding of the host-pathogen mechanisms, and the immune response to these, is considered a major goal for the rational design of appropriate therapies. For this reason, the use of gene networks may well encourage therapy-associated research in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, orchestrating experimental scrutiny and reducing costs. In this work, gene co-expression networks were reconstructed from RNA-Seq expression data with the aim of analyzing the time-resolved effects of gene Ly6E in the immune response against the coronavirus responsible for murine hepatitis (MHV). Through the integration of differential expression analyses and reconstructed networks exploration, significant differences in the immune response to virus were observed in Ly6E Δ H S C compared to wild type animals. Results show that Ly6E ablation at hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) leads to a progressive impaired immune response in both liver and spleen. Tinnitus is the perception of a self-generated sound and an individual's psychological reaction to it. This article discusses one element of the reaction depression. Epidemiologic studies have noted high comorbidity of tinnitus and depression. Findings from recent brain imaging studies have noted shared neural networks in depression and severe tinnitus. As further evidence of this overlaps, antidepressants, counseling, and psychology-based approaches have been used to treat tinnitus. Multifaceted treatment strategies, using both sound-based therapies (not discussed in this paper) and psychology-based approaches, are a necessary part of the treatment options, with the aim of enhancing self-efficacy in patients with tinnitus. Tinnitus distress results from a weave of physical and psychological processes. Reducing the power of the psychological processes will therefore reduce the degree of suffering. The main psychological therapy in this context is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This seeks to understand and change the influence of thinking processes, including information processing biases, and the behaviors that these motivate, on the experience of tinnitus. The results of systematic reviews and meta-analyses indicate that CBT is the tinnitus management approach for which there is the most robust evidence. In spite of this, it remains difficult to access for people with tinnitus. Despite recent, major steps forward in our understanding of tinnitus pathophysiology and improved research methodology, tinnitus remains a clear unmet clinical need. Here, the authors identify current active clinical and preclinical development programs of tinnitus drug candidates using publications, databases, and company communications. The current drug development programs hold promise for new therapeutic options for tinnitus patients, but further fundamental research is needed to validate additional targets for treating tinnitus. Retroglossal collapse is commonly seen in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. The role of upper airway stimulation surgery for these patients continues to evolve. However, base of tongue reduction surgery continues to have usefulness for appropriately selected patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Specific tongue base approaches may vary in response to patient and surgeon preferences and be used in multilevel surgery where appropriate. Key factors include patient age, willingness to undergo device implantation, and preferences for outpatient versus inpatient procedure, single procedure versus multiple, and tolerance for various procedure-specific postoperative restrictions and potential complications. The results showed a trend of increased post-gap amplitudes and reduced gap salience; however, the small number of articles yield and limited consensus prohibit any conclusions for clinical use. Nevertheless, gap-induced EPs may be further explored as a potential tool for tinnitus detection.
