Results A total of 63 laser lesions in 8 eyes of 5 patients were included in this study. There was a significant decrease in the CCVD at 1 hour and 1 day following laser treatment (24.25% ± 5.04% and 22.00% ± 4.71%, respectively) when compared with the baseline value (39.09% ± 3.71%, all p less then 0.001). The CCVD was 31.82% ± 4.53% in 1 week after laser treatment, which was significantly higher than that in 1 day after treatment (p less then 0.001). Thus, the development of more advanced therapeutics that can efficiently target metastatic foci is crucial. In this study, we built an dual-acting therapeutic strategy using micelles with high stability functionalized with fibronectin-targeting CREKA peptides encapsulating two slightly soluble chemotherapy agents in water, doxorubicin (D) and vinorelbine (V), which we termed C-DVM. We found that small C-DVM micelles could efficiently codeliver drugs into 4T1 cells and disrupt microtubule structures. C-DVM also exhibited a powerful ability to eradicate and inhibit invasion of 4T1 cells. Moreover, an in vivo pharmacokinetics study showed that C-DVM increased the drug circulation half-life and led to increased enrichment of drugs in lung metastatic foci after 24 h. Moreover, dual-acting C-DVM treatment led to 90% inhibition of metastatic foci development and reduced invasion of metastases. Cyclodextrin has been studied for more than 120 years. Due to the special structure and selectivity of the cyclodextrin cavity, native cyclodextrins, cyclodextrin derivatives and inclusion complexes have received extensive attention and are widely used in medicine, food, the environment, cosmetics, chemical analysis, separation technology, catalysts and other fields. Cyclodextrin-based materials have been applied to oilfields since the early 1980s and performed well in enhancing the performance of petroleum chemicals and improving the efficiency of oil exploration. This review introduces the characteristics of cyclodextrin-based materials, including cyclodextrin polymers, inclusion complexes and new cyclodextrin nanocomposites, and summarizes their applications in oilfields for the first time, such as retarded acid solution, enhanced oil recovery, clay stabilizers, corrosion and scale inhibitors, wastewater treatment, etc. Meanwhile, the action mechanisms, major challenges and development tendencies of cyclodextrin-based materials in oilfields are also comprehensively discussed.Cellulose is a natural material with dissolution-regeneration property and numerous hydrogen bonds in the molecule. By utilizing these properties, this paper reported the development of a multi-functional fabric consisting of cellulose and commercial cotton fabric. The morphology, mechanical and thermal properties along with the oil-water separation performance of the developed material were studied. The results showed that the cellulose dissolved in NaOH/urea solution was regenerated in a salt solution, and attached tightly onto the cotton fabric, forming a sandwich structure for the material. Such modification significantly enhanced the strength, thermal stability and hydrophilic performance of the fabrics. Interestingly, the prepared material exhibited a unique underwater oleophobic performance, and had the capability to separate highly emulsified oil-water mixtures. The relatively low cost for the material preparation, enhanced mechanical property and high separation performance distinguished the developed material a suitable candidate for the separation of emulsified oil from water in practical applications.Interactions between starch and non-starch polysaccharides are very important for predicting and controlling the structure and function of starch-.based products. In this study, the effects of Mesona chinensis Benth polysaccharide (MCP) on the pasting, rheological, structural, and water mobility properties of rice starch (RS)-MCP gels were evaluated. Results indicated that MCP can increase the pasting viscosity, and gel properties of RS-MCP gels. Rheological results showed that RS-MCP gels exhibited shear-thinning behavior and that MCP can enhance the viscoelasticity of RS-MCP gels. Fourier-transform infrared spectra results indicated no covalent interaction between RS and MCP, and MCP could increase the degree of short-range order of RS-MCP gels. MCP also enhanced the water-retention capacity of RS-MCP gels. Scanning electron microscopy results suggested that MCP could decrease the pore sizes of RS gels and the microstructure of RS gels became more ordered at 0.1 % concentration of MCP. The results suggested that the amylose and MCP molecules interacted through hydrogen bonds and electrostatic forces, which enhanced the gelling properties of RS-MCP gels. Overall, this study shows the potential applications of MCP, and also provides the theoretical basis of interactions in starch-hydrocolloids systems.Engineering bioscaffolds for improved cutaneous tissue regeneration remains a healthcare challenge. The morphology of nanofiber mats was examined by SEM and TEM. The physicochemical and thermal stability characterizations were done by FT-IR and TGA/DTA, which reveal the presence of honey and desired plant into the nanofibers. PVA/Chit@Nep/Hon was investigated for wound healing therapy as a potential therapeutic agent. The in vivo wound healing studies on the rats for 21 days revealed the wound healing faster within three weeks by the incorporation of honey and plant into the nanofiber mats and hence these nanofiber mats show great potential in acute and chronic wound healing applications.Nowadays, environment-friendly and sustainable polymers have aroused great research attention, due to serious pollution caused by nondegradable and nonrenewable polymer waste. In this paper, chitosan (CS) grafted polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether (mPEG) (CS-g-mPEG) fiber, with solid-solid phase change (SSPC) behavior and improved mechanical performance, were prepared successfully by in-situ wet spinning process. The tensile strength of CS-g-mPEG fiber reached 1.36 cN/dtex, increased by more than 50 % contrasted with CS fiber, due to the enhancement of molecular entanglement and hydrogen bonding interactions. Particularly, CS-g-mPEG fiber with stable shape could actively absorb heat as ambient temperature above 46 °C, then would release heat as ambient temperature below 26 °C. So, the human body will not feel too cold or heat. Cytometry.Background Chronic rhinosinusitis with or without nasal polyps (CRSwNP/CRSsNP) seriously impairs health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This analysis describes the impact of the exhalation delivery system with fluticasone (EDS-FLU) on HRQoL, assessed by the 36-item Short-Form Health Survey version 2 (SF-36v2), and on utilities, assessed via the Short-Form 6-Dimension (SF-6D), in patients with CRSwNP. Methods Post hoc analysis of pooled randomized clinical trial data (NAVIGATE I and II; N = 643) to examine change from baseline in SF-36v2 and SF-6D at end-of-double-blind (EODB 16 weeks) and end-of-open-label (EOOL 24 weeks; following 8 weeks of open-label treatment) for EDS-FLU vs placebo (EDS-PBO). Baseline characteristics predictive of change in SF-36 and SF-6D scores were assessed. Results Mean baseline SF-36v2 scores were below population norms. At EODB, mean improvement was greater for all SF-36v2 domain and component scores with EDS-FLU (range 2.9 [physical functioning] to 5.11 [bodily pain BP]) vs EDS-PBO (range 0.81 [mental health] to 2.87 [BP]) (each comparison p less then 0.01); physical and mental component score improvements within the EDS-FLU group exceeded the minimal clinically important difference (MCID). Clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvements in SF-6D utility scores were seen in EDS-FLU-treated patients compared to EDS-PBO-treated patients (0.058 vs 0.023, respectively, p less then 0.001). At EOOL, SF-36v2 and SF-6D mean scores were at or above population norms, with clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvements from baseline. To complete our studies of mouse model systems relevant to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), we present a replication of the main findings from our two published studies of five genetic mouse model systems of ASD. To assess the intra-laboratory robustness of previous results, we chose the two model systems that showed the greatest phenotypic differences, the Shank3/F and Cntnap2, and repeated assessments of general health, activity, and social behavior. We additionally explored all five model systems in the same framework, comparing all results obtained in this three-yearlong effort using informatics techniques to assess commonalities and differences.
Cytometry.Background Chronic rhinosinusitis with or without nasal polyps (CRSwNP/CRSsNP) seriously impairs health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This analysis describes the impact of the exhalation delivery system with fluticasone (EDS-FLU) on HRQoL, assessed by the 36-item Short-Form Health Survey version 2 (SF-36v2), and on utilities, assessed via the Short-Form 6-Dimension (SF-6D), in patients with CRSwNP. Methods Post hoc analysis of pooled randomized clinical trial data (NAVIGATE I and II; N = 643) to examine change from baseline in SF-36v2 and SF-6D at end-of-double-blind (EODB 16 weeks) and end-of-open-label (EOOL 24 weeks; following 8 weeks of open-label treatment) for EDS-FLU vs placebo (EDS-PBO). Baseline characteristics predictive of change in SF-36 and SF-6D scores were assessed. Results Mean baseline SF-36v2 scores were below population norms. At EODB, mean improvement was greater for all SF-36v2 domain and component scores with EDS-FLU (range 2.9 [physical functioning] to 5.11 [bodily pain BP]) vs EDS-PBO (range 0.81 [mental health] to 2.87 [BP]) (each comparison p less then 0.01); physical and mental component score improvements within the EDS-FLU group exceeded the minimal clinically important difference (MCID). Clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvements in SF-6D utility scores were seen in EDS-FLU-treated patients compared to EDS-PBO-treated patients (0.058 vs 0.023, respectively, p less then 0.001). At EOOL, SF-36v2 and SF-6D mean scores were at or above population norms, with clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvements from baseline. INTRODUCTION Anemia due to iron deficiency and chronic diseases is common occurrence in developing country like Nepal, the latter seen in patients with various inflammatory, autoimmune, and malignant disorders . The Intensive method of marrow iron examination, which this study has employed, provides clinically useful iron status classification in cases of functional iron deficiency. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Rapamycin.html The aim of the study is to find out the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in biochemically defined moderate to severe anemic patients in tertiary care center. METHODS A descriptive cross-sectional study was done in 43 patients who underwent bone marrow aspiration for evaluation of any cause and had moderate to severe anemia at the same time over a period of one year from Nov 2015 to 2016. Ethical clearance was obtained from Institutional Review Committee. The bone marrow iron stores were assessed by"intensive method" apart from the routinely used Gale's method. Data was collected and entry were done in Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 24. Point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was calculated along with frequency and proportion for binary data. RESULTS The intensive grading system demonstrated normal marrow iron store in 13 (30.2%), depleted iron stores in 3 (7%), functional iron deficiency in 14 (32.6%), and combined deficiency in 13 (30.2%) patients. Mean log ferritin concentration was lower in patients with depleted iron stores (2.2μg/l) than in those with normal (2.7μg/l), and functional iron deficiency (2.4μg/l). The mean log ferritin in combined deficiency was lower than the mean log ferritin concentration in iron store deficiency (1.9μg/l). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of functional iron deficiency anemia was greatest when the intensive method for assessment of bone marrow iron was used, thus differentiating four different iron status categories, including functional iron deficiency, from actual iron store deficiency, avoiding unnecessary iron supplementation in the former group.INTRODUCTION Fingerprints, serve as one of the crucial tools for identification of the individual for various purposes. Sex, being one of those tools, researchers have suggested the use of fingerprints for gender identification. The objective of the study was to observe the distribution of various fingerprints patterns in the population of a community, together with the most prevalent pattern. METHODS This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the population of Duwakot VDC, Bhaktapur from May 2019 to July 2019. Ethical clearance was obtained from the Institutional Review Committee with reference no. 2812201804. One hundred and ninety-six individuals of 18 to 60 years of age were enrolled. Fingerprints of all ten fingers were taken and studied to see the distribution pattern and analyzed for gender differences. Simple random sampling was done and the sample size was calculated with a prevalence of 50%. The data obtained were computed and analyzed using Excel to find the results. RESULTS The study showed the highest frequency of loops 1033 (52.71%) followed by whorls 537 (27.38%), arches 300 (15.28%) and composite pattern 90 (4.61%). The radial loops were observed more in the males 397 (5.54%) of total males whereas ulnar loops were observed more in the females 636 (96.38%) of total females. Among whorls, the concentric whorls were seen more in males 245 (52.03%) whereas the spiral whorls were seen more in the females 292 (53.27%). All preterm, term and post term babies delivered at Kathmandu Medical College Teaching Hospital were included. Ethical clearance was received from Institutional Review Committee of Kathmandu Medical College (Ref.2812201808). Convenient sampling method was applied. Data analysis was done in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 18), point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was calculated along with frequency and proportion for binary data. RESULTS A total of 1284 babies delivered over six months period were enrolled in this study and 47 (3.66 %) babies were asphyxiated, at 95% Confidence Interval (2.64%-4.68%). The mean birth weight of asphyxiated babies was 2759.75±65 grams and gestational age was 37.57±2 weeks. Among asphyxiated babies, 15 (32%) babies were normal, 15 (32%) babies were in Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy stage I, 14 (30%) were in stage II and 3 (6%) were in stage III. Twenty Three (49%) asphyxiated babies had antenatal risk factors and all 47 babies had intrapartum risk factors leading to asphyxia. CONCLUSIONS Prevalence of perinatal asphyxia was lower compared to that of other similar tertiary care hospitals. METHODS This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted at Kathmandu Medical College Teaching Hospital over six month period (January to June 2019). All preterm, term and post term babies delivered at Kathmandu Medical College Teaching Hospital were included. Ethical clearance was received from Institutional Review Committee of Kathmandu Medical College (Ref.2812201808). Convenient sampling method was applied. Data analysis was done in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 18), point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was calculated along with frequency and proportion for binary data. RESULTS A total of 1284 babies delivered over six months period were enrolled in this study and 47 (3.66 %) babies were asphyxiated, at 95% Confidence Interval (2.64%-4.68%). The mean birth weight of asphyxiated babies was 2759.75±65 grams and gestational age was 37.57±2 weeks. Among asphyxiated babies, 15 (32%) babies were normal, 15 (32%) babies were in Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy stage I, 14 (30%) were in stage II and 3 (6%) were in stage III. Twenty Three (49%) asphyxiated babies had antenatal risk factors and all 47 babies had intrapartum risk factors leading to asphyxia. CONCLUSIONS Prevalence of perinatal asphyxia was lower compared to that of other similar tertiary care hospitals. The levels of interleukin (IL)-1ß, IL-10, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) assay and western blot. RESULTS The intensive grading system demonstrated normal marrow iron store in 13 (30.2%), depleted iron stores in 3 (7%), functional iron deficiency in 14 (32.6%), and combined deficiency in 13 (30.2%) patients. Mean log ferritin concentration was lower in patients with depleted iron stores (2.2μg/l) than in those with normal (2.7μg/l), and functional iron deficiency (2.4μg/l). The mean log ferritin in combined deficiency was lower than the mean log ferritin concentration in iron store deficiency (1.9μg/l). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of functional iron deficiency anemia was greatest when the intensive method for assessment of bone marrow iron was used, thus differentiating four different iron status categories, including functional iron deficiency, from actual iron store deficiency, avoiding unnecessary iron supplementation in the former group.INTRODUCTION Fingerprints, serve as one of the crucial tools for identification of the individual for various purposes. The objective of the study was to observe the distribution of various fingerprints patterns in the population of a community, together with the most prevalent pattern. METHODS This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the population of Duwakot VDC, Bhaktapur from May 2019 to July 2019. Ethical clearance was obtained from the Institutional Review Committee with reference no. 2812201804. One hundred and ninety-six individuals of 18 to 60 years of age were enrolled. Fingerprints of all ten fingers were taken and studied to see the distribution pattern and analyzed for gender differences. Simple random sampling was done and the sample size was calculated with a prevalence of 50%. The data obtained were computed and analyzed using Excel to find the results. RESULTS The study showed the highest frequency of loops 1033 (52.71%) followed by whorls 537 (27.38%), arches 300 (15.28%) and composite pattern 90 (4.61%). The radial loops were observed more in the males 397 (5.54%) of total males whereas ulnar loops were observed more in the females 636 (96.38%) of total females. Among whorls, the concentric whorls were seen more in males 245 (52.03%) whereas the spiral whorls were seen more in the females 292 (53.27%). Although the Mediterranean diet has beneficial effects on health, recent studies have shown low adherence in Europe. This study aimed to assess the Mediterranean diet adherence in 266 pregnant women from Dalmatia, Croatia and to investigate their lifestyle habits and regional differences. Adherence to the Mediterranean diet was assessed through two Mediterranean diet scores. Differences in maternal characteristics (diet, education, income, parity, smoking, pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), physical activity, contraception) with regards to location and dietary habits were analyzed using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test. The machine learning approach was used to reveal other potential non-linear relationships. The results showed that adherence to the Mediterranean diet was low to moderate among the pregnant women in this study, with no significant mainland-island differences. The highest adherence was observed among wealthier women with generally healthier lifestyle choices. The most significant mainland-island differences were observed for lifestyle and socioeconomic factors (income, education, physical activity). The machine learning approach confirmed the findings of the conventional statistical method. Combined with TRAIL, these compounds displayed additive to synergistic apoptotic activity in the Jurkat, HCT116 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines. Mechanistically, these secondary metabolites induced and enhanced procaspase-10, -8, -9 and -3 activation leading to an increase in PARP and lamin A/C cleavage. Here, we review current technology and methods in population genomics and their applications to biological control and include basic guidelines for biological control researchers for implementing genomic technology and statistical modeling.
β-cryptoxanthin decreased this ratio in SAMP1 mice. Furthermore, β-cryptoxanthin decreased the autophagy-related factor expression in murine C2C12 myotube. The autophagy inhibitor bafilomycin A1, but not the proteasome inhibitor MG132, inhibited the β-cryptoxanthin-induced decrease in p62 and LC3-II expressions. Although the Mediterranean diet has beneficial effects on health, recent studies have shown low adherence in Europe. This study aimed to assess the Mediterranean diet adherence in 266 pregnant women from Dalmatia, Croatia and to investigate their lifestyle habits and regional differences. Adherence to the Mediterranean diet was assessed through two Mediterranean diet scores. Differences in maternal characteristics (diet, education, income, parity, smoking, pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), physical activity, contraception) with regards to location and dietary habits were analyzed using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test. The machine learning approach was used to reveal other potential non-linear relationships. The results showed that adherence to the Mediterranean diet was low to moderate among the pregnant women in this study, with no significant mainland-island differences. The highest adherence was observed among wealthier women with generally healthier lifestyle choices. The most significant mainland-island differences were observed for lifestyle and socioeconomic factors (income, education, physical activity). The machine learning approach confirmed the findings of the conventional statistical method. We can conclude that adverse socioeconomic and lifestyle conditions were more pronounced in the island population, which, together with the observed non-Mediterranean dietary pattern, calls for more effective intervention strategies.Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy (NAC) in Breast Cancer (BC) has proved useful for the reduction in tumor burden prior to surgery, allowing for a more extensive breast preservation and the eradication of subjacent micrometastases. However, the impact on prognosis is highly dependent on the establishment of Pathological Complete Response (pCR), in particular for Triple Negative (TN) and Hormonal Receptor negative/Human Epidermal growth factor Receptor 2 positive (HR-/HER2+) subtypes. Several pCR predictors, such as PAM50, Integrative Cluster (IntClust), mutations in PI3KCA, or the Trastuzumab Risk model (TRAR), are useful molecular tools for estimating response to treatment and are prognostic. Major evolution events during BC NAC that feature the Residual Disease (RD) are the loss of HR and HER2, which are prognostic of bad outcome, and stemness and immune depletion-related gene expression aberrations. This dynamic nature of the determinants of response to BC NAC, together with the extensive heterogeneity of BC, raises the need to discern the individual and subtype-specific determinants of resistance. Moreover, refining the current approaches for a comprehensive monitoring of tumor evolution during treatment, RD, and eventual recurrences is essential for identifying new actionable alterations and the integral best management of the disease.Resistance of cancer cells to tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL)-induced apoptosis represents the major hurdle to the clinical use of TRAIL or its derivatives. The discovery and development of lead compounds able to sensitize tumor cells to TRAIL-induced cell death is thus likely to overcome this limitation. We recently reported that marine actinomycetes' crude extracts could restore TRAIL sensitivity of the MDA-MB-231 resistant triple negative breast cancer cell line. We demonstrate in this study, that purified secondary metabolites originating from distinct marine actinomycetes (sharkquinone (1), resistomycin (2), undecylprodigiosin (3), butylcyclopentylprodigiosin (4), elloxizanone A (5) and B (6), carboxyexfoliazone (7), and exfoliazone (8)), alone, and in a concentration-dependent manner, induce killing in both MDA-MB-231 and HCT116 cell lines. Combined with TRAIL, these compounds displayed additive to synergistic apoptotic activity in the Jurkat, HCT116 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines. Mechanistically, these secondary metabolites induced and enhanced procaspase-10, -8, -9 and -3 activation leading to an increase in PARP and lamin A/C cleavage. Apoptosis induced by these compounds was blocked by the pan-caspase inhibitor QvD, but not by a deficiency in caspase-8, FADD or TRAIL agonist receptors. Particularly, population genomics presents exceptional opportunities to study adaptive evolution and invasiveness of pests and biological control organisms. Population genomics also provides insights into (1) long-term biological consequences of releases, (2) the ecological success and sustainability of this pest management tactic and (3) non-target effects on native species, populations and ecosystems. Recent advances in genomic sequencing technology and model-based statistical methods to analyze population-scale genomic data provide a much needed impetus for biological control programs to benefit by incorporating a consideration of evolutionary consequences. A computational investigation on the structure and antioxidant property of a natural food colorant Petunidin (PT) was performed under DFT/B3LYP/6-31+ G (d, p). PT has a drug score of +0.804 which indicates its drug-like nature. The antioxidant property of PT was well explained by HAT mechanism and it has been found that the electron releasing substituents decreases the BDE value. PT has lowest BDE value at C3 position and is confirmed by the lowest pKa value, high atomic charge and lowest bond order. PT easily donates the hydrogen atom and exists in the deprotonated form in blood as the pKa value at C3 is less than the pH value of blood. PT shows no violation to Lipinski's rule of 5 indicating its nature as an orally admissible drug. More over PT has considerable bioactivity against nuclear receptor ligand while it shows only moderate activity towards GPCR and ion channel modulator. Also it shows moderate activity as an enzyme inhibitor and protease inhibitor but shows considerable activity as a kinase inhibitor. Methods We investigated polymorphisms of dopamine metabolism genes, including catechol-O-methyltransferase, monoamine oxidase B, dopamine beta-hydroxylasedopamine, dopamine receptors D1, D2, and D3, and dopamine transporter, in 110 patients with Parkinson's disease. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to detect associations between genotypes and levodopa-induced dyskinesia. Results Monoamine oxidase B rs1799836 was the only polymorphism correlated with risk of dyskinesia. Patients with an AG or GG genotype were more likely to have dyskinesia than those with an AA genotype (adjusted hazard ratio, 3.41; 95% confidence interval, 1.28-9.10). Also, Kaplan-Meier curves demonstrated that patients with an AG or GG genotype developed dyskinesia earlier than those with an AA genotype (log-rank test, p = .004). Conclusions In Parkinson's disease patients, the monoamine oxidase B rs1799836 G allele is associated with a greater likelihood of developing dyskinesia than the A allele, possibly due to its association with lower monoamine oxidase B activity in the brain. Results The data reveal that both drugs cause platelet activation and reduce the number of platelet exocytosis events as well as delay fusion pore opening and closing. Conclusions This work demonstrates how chloroquine and quinine quantitatively and qualitatively impact in vitro platelet function. Therefore, in this study, the inhibitory effects of miR-146a on both adipose and periodontal inflammation, was investigated. In vitro study has revealed that miR-146a transfection into either adipocytes or gingival fibroblasts, has resulted in a reduced cytokine gene expression, observed on co-culturing the cells with macrophages in the presence of lipopolysaccharides (LPS), in comparison to the control miRNA transfected. Similarly, miR-146a transfection into macrophages resulted in a reduced expression of TNF-α gene and protein in response to LPS stimulation. In vivo study revealed that a continuous intravenous miR-146a administration into **** via tail vein, protected the **** from developing high-fat diet-induced obesity and the inflammatory cytokine gene expression was down-regulated in both adipose and periodontal tissues. miR-146a appeared to be induced by macrophage-derived inflammatory signals such as TNF-α by negative feed-**** mechanism, and it suppressed inflammatory reaction in both adipose and periodontal tissues. The following information will be extracted from each included SR first author, year of publication, country of origin, number of primary study; the number of patients enrolled, participant characteristics, duration of cancer diagnosis, cancer types. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) and A Measurements Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR-2) will be used to assess the reporting and methodological quality of SRs/MAs. The characteristics of included SRs/MAs and their quality will be descriptively summarized using systematically structured tables. The network MA approach and narrative synthesis will be used to examine data when applicable. Odds ratio and (standardized) mean difference with their 95% confidence intervals will be used as summary statistics. Stata 13.0 software will be used to analyze and pool data. Results The results of the overview will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. Ethics and dissemination The study is not a clinical study, and we will search and evaluate existing sources of literature. Frailty, a geriatric syndrome resulted from the declines of multiple physiological systems, characterized by malnutrition, exercise intolerance, dependence, longer bed rest, lower gaits peed, weakness, weight loss, anorexia, hip fracture, risk of falling, delirium, dementia, and keep indoors, has become one of the biggest challenges in facilitating healthy aging. Because the research of frailty just had started in recent years in China, the evidence regarding the prevalence of frailty among the Chinese population is scarce and just limited in certain area. Method We will systematically search 7 electronic database including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Web of science, MEDLINE, CNKI (Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure), and CBM (Chinese Biological Medical Database) to identify studies that provide or potential available of data regarding to prevalence of frailty. Risk of bias of individual study will be assessed using 8-iterm critical appraisal criteria for prevalence or incidence studies. Data will be analyzed using STATA V.12.0 software. Conclusions Our systematic review and meta-analysis will firstly pool the results from available studies to provide a comprehensive evidence for the prevalence of frailty. The results of this study will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication.Objective To evaluate whether conventional postoperative drainage is more effective than not providing drainage in patients with non-complicated benign gallbladder disease following laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). Methods A search of the electronic databases MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of science, Cochrane Library, and Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM) was conducted for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting outcomes of LC surgery with and without an abdominal drain. Results Twenty-one RCTs involving 3246 patients (1666 with drains vs 1580 without) were included in the meta-analysis. There were no statistically significant differences in the rates of incidence of intra-abdominal fluid (RR 1.10; 95% CI 0.81-1.49; P = .54) or post-surgical mortality (RR 0.44; 95% CI 0.04-4.72; P = .50) between the two groups. Abdominal drains did not reduce the overall incidence of nausea and vomiting (RR 1.16; 95% CI 0.95-1.42; P = .15) or shoulder tip pain (RR 1.03; 95% CI 0.76-1.38; P = .86). The abdominal drain group displayed significantly higher pain scores (MD 1.07; 95% CI 0.69-1.46; P less then .001) than the non-drainage patients. Abdominal drains prolonged the duration of the surgical procedure (MD 5.69 min; 95% CI 2.51-8.87; P = .005) and postoperative hospital stay (MD 0.47 day; 95% CI 0.14-0.80; P = .005). Wound infection was found to be associated with the use of abdominal drains (RR 1.97; 95% CI 1.11-3.47; P = .02). Conclusions Currently, there is no evidence to support the use of routine drainage after LC in non-complicated benign gallbladder disease. Method We will systematically search 7 electronic database including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Web of science, MEDLINE, CNKI (Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure), and CBM (Chinese Biological Medical Database) to identify studies that provide or potential available of data regarding to prevalence of frailty. Risk of bias of individual study will be assessed using 8-iterm critical appraisal criteria for prevalence or incidence studies. Data will be analyzed using STATA V.12.0 software. Conclusions Our systematic review and meta-analysis will firstly pool the results from available studies to provide a comprehensive evidence for the prevalence of frailty. The results of this study will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication.Objective To evaluate whether conventional postoperative drainage is more effective than not providing drainage in patients with non-complicated benign gallbladder disease following laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). Methods A search of the electronic databases MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of science, Cochrane Library, and Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM) was conducted for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting outcomes of LC surgery with and without an abdominal drain. Results Twenty-one RCTs involving 3246 patients (1666 with drains vs 1580 without) were included in the meta-analysis. There were no statistically significant differences in the rates of incidence of intra-abdominal fluid (RR 1.10; 95% CI 0.81-1.49; P = .54) or post-surgical mortality (RR 0.44; 95% CI 0.04-4.72; P = .50) between the two groups. Abdominal drains did not reduce the overall incidence of nausea and vomiting (RR 1.16; 95% CI 0.95-1.42; P = .15) or shoulder tip pain (RR 1.03; 95% CI 0.76-1.38; P = .86). The abdominal drain group displayed significantly higher pain scores (MD 1.07; 95% CI 0.69-1.46; P less then .001) than the non-drainage patients. Abdominal drains prolonged the duration of the surgical procedure (MD 5.69 min; 95% CI 2.51-8.87; P = .005) and postoperative hospital stay (MD 0.47 day; 95% CI 0.14-0.80; P = .005). Conclusions Currently, there is no evidence to support the use of routine drainage after LC in non-complicated benign gallbladder disease. Regression models examine associations between the aforementioned risk factors, number of sex partners and number of unprotected sex acts, by depression status and sex, among participants.Results Frequent binge drinking predicted frequency of unprotected sex for both males and females; ever experiencing physical violence was a powerful predictor of unprotected sex for females, but not males. Ever experiencing physical violence strongly predicted having multiple sexual partners for females but was related to decreased number of sexual partners for males. Females ever experiencing sexual violence had more sexual partners; this was not observed for males. Binge drinking predicted frequency of unprotected sex acts, regardless of depression status.Discussion Interventions for AI adults seeking to reduce sexual health risk should reflect past violence victimization in sexual decision making, primarily among women. The significant role of binge alcohol use for modifying sexual decisions should be of prime focus and interventions should be personalized to address individuals' own alcohol use patterns.
