  • The lifestyle intervention focused on improving the amount of time spent every week in active behaviour and physical activity (minimum 150 min of weekly activities). All participants completed the training program and no adverse events, related to the program, occurred. The intervention group showed steady and significant improvements in physical functioning and a stable situation in BADL and mood following the intervention in older adults with and without dementia, whilst the control group exhibited a significant decline over time. These results suggest that engagement in a physical activity intervention may benefit care home residents with and without dementia both physically and mentally, leading to improved social care and a reduced burden on healthcare services.The everyday lives of Danish inhabitants have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, e.g., by social distancing, which was employed by the government in March 2020 to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Moreover, the pandemic has entailed economic consequences for many people. This study aims to assess changes in physical and mental health-related quality of life (MCS, PCS), in stress levels, and quality of sleep during the COVID-19 pandemic and to identify factors that impact such changes, using a prospective national cohort study including 26,453 participants from the Danish Blood Donor Study who answered a health questionnaire before the pandemic and during the pandemic. Descriptive statistics, multivariable linear and multinomial logistic regression analyses were applied. A worsening of MCS and quality of sleep was found, and an overall decrease in stress levels was observed. PCS was decreased in men and slightly increased in women. The extent of health changes was mainly affected by changes in job situation, type of job, previous use of anti-depressive medication and the participants' level of personal stamina. Thus, living under the unusual circumstances that persisted during the COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the health of the general population. This may, in time, constitute a public health problem.This study evaluates the efficacy of using textile waste blended with paper waste to form biodegradable seedling pots. The appreciated seedling pots (untreated blends of cotton and polycotton) were compared with the commercial pots (cardboard seed starter pot and Jiffy pot) in terms of mechanical properties (tensile strength and compressive strength), biodegradability (soil burial test and anaerobic digestion), and seed germination. The untreated blends of cotton and polycotton pots demonstrated a comparable optimum strength, while the Jiffy pot and cardboard seed starter pot obtained the least tensile and compressive strengths, respectively. The anaerobic biodegradability assay suggests that the cotton blend pot, polycotton blend pot, and cardboard seed starter pot can degrade anaerobically because of high biogas and methane generation potential. A 100% seed germination was observed from the four seedling pots tested. In this work, we propose a multivariate age-structured stochastic model to understand bronchiolitis dynamics in children younger than 2 years of age considering high-quality data from the Valencia health system integrated database. Our modeling approach combines ideas from compartmental models and Bayesian hierarchical Poisson models in a novel way. Finally, we develop an extension of the model that simulates the effect of potential newborn immunization scenarios on the burden of disease. We provide an app tool that estimates the expected reduction in bronchiolitis episodes for a range of different values of uptake and effectiveness.
    It is well known that athletes originating from a specific region or country can master specific sports disciplines (e.g., East-African runners in long-distance running). In addition, physical and athletic performance are the result of an interaction between genetic, environmental and epigenetic factors. However, little is known about on what determines sports success and performance for long-distance master swimmers such as origin. The aim of the study was to investigate the participation and performance trends of elite master open-water swimmers competing in the World Championships (WC) in 3000 m open-water swimming between 1986 and 2019.

We provide feasibility data that TMS is a safe, reliable, and effective tool to map eloquent cortices in young children.A potential dramatic effect of long-term disability due to stroke is the inability to return to work. An accurate prognosis and the identification of the parameters inflating the possibility of return to work after neurorehabilitation are crucial. Many factors may influence it, such as mobility and, in particular, walking ability. In this pilot study, two emerging technologies have been combined with the aim of developing a prognostic tool for identifying patients able to return to work a wearable inertial measurement unit for gait analysis and an artificial neural network (ANN). Compared with more conventional statistics, the ANN showed a higher accuracy in identifying patients with respect to healthy subjects (90.9 vs. 75.8%) and also in identifying the subjects unable to return to work (93.9 vs. 81.8%). In this last analysis, the duration of double support phase resulted the most important input of the ANN. The potentiality of the ANN, developed also in other fields such as marketing on social networks, could allow a powerful support for clinicians that today should manage a large amount of instrumentally recorded parameters in patients with stroke.Objective To determine the safety and tolerability of nusinersen treatment in ambulatory adults with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and investigate the treatment effect on muscle strength, physical function, and motor unit physiology. Methods Individuals aged 18 years or older with genetically confirmed 5q SMA, three or more copies of the SMN2 gene, and the ability to ambulate 30 feet were enrolled. Safety outcomes included the number of adverse events and serious adverse events, clinically significant vital sign or laboratory parameter abnormalities. Outcome assessments occurred at baseline (prior to the first dose of nusinersen) and then 2, 6, 10, and 14 months post-treatment. Results Six women, seven men (mean age 37 ± 11, range 18-59 years) were included for analyses. Methods Sixteen patients with epilepsy underwent FDG18-PET-CT (PET) scan and electroencephalogram (EEG) examinations. Transcranial Doppler (TCD) was used to detect the peak flow velocity (PFV), mean flow velocity (MFV), and other hemodynamic indicators of bilateral anterior, middle, and posterior cerebral arteries in each patient. According to different patterns of the PET or interictal EEG, the differences in PFV, and MFV of corresponding vessels on both sides under different patterns were compared. Results According to the PET of the low-metabolism region corresponding to the supplying artery, the PFV and MFV of the supplying artery in the low-metabolism region were lower than the value of the corresponding contralateral vessel. The PFV and MFV on the low metabolic side of PET were lower than that of the corresponding vessels on the opposite side. The PFV and MFV on the discharge side of interictal EEG were also lower than the PFV and MFV of the corresponding vessels on the opposite side. The MFV of posterior cerebral artery on the low metabolic side of PET or the interictal discharge side was significantly different from that of the contralateral vessels (P less then 0.05). However, the other aforementioned differences in PFV and MFV did not achieve statistical significance. Conclusion In epileptic patients, the PFV and MFV of main cerebral vessels on the PET hypometabolized side or the interictal discharge side was lower than that of corresponding vessels on the contralateral side. To some extent, the difference in the MFV of PCA between the bilateral sides can facilitate the lateral diagnosis of the epileptogenic zone.

For unresectable neuroendocrine liver metastases, LT for patients who met the Milan criteria was able to achieve excellent long-term outcomes. The guidelines further adopted in the U.S. and Europe were based on these criteria. For hepatoblastoma, patients with unresectable and borderline-resectable disease are considered good candidates for LT; however, the indications are yet to be defined. Primary outcomes included hospital length of stay (LOS) and transfer to an intensive care unit within 72 hours of admission. Secondary outcomes were any transfer to an intensive care unit, in-hospital mortality, discharge to home (versus discharge to postacute care facility), and readmission to the health system within 30 days of discharge. RESULTS We analyzed 5518 encounters, 64% of which were admitted by a holdover team.     Gastric cancer (GC) is the third most common cause of cancer death. Intestinal type GC is a molecularly diverse disease. Formins control cytoskeletal processes and have been implicated in the progression of many cancers. Their clinical significance in GC remains unclear. Here, we characterize the expression of formin proteins FHOD1 and FMNL1 in intestinal GC tissue samples and investigate their association with clinical parameters, GC molecular subtypes and intratumoral T lymphocytes.

    A 21 multiple-choice questionnaire was sent to an international cohort of 96 IR faculty. Questions included the initial patient evaluation, embolization materials and techniques, post-procedure management, availability of an institutional protocol, and use of guidelines.

    For each question, there were from a minimum of 45 to a maximum of 52 responders 94% require a CT with contrast prior to embolization, and 87% use the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) scale to grade the splenic injuries. Embolization is performed across all values of the AAST scale. Of the patients with injuries of grade III or greater, embolization is primarily done for those patients who are hemodynamically stable. Unstable patients are embolized less frequently and primarily in cases in which the injuries are of a lower grade. Coils are the preferred material for proximal embolization (69%). Particles/Gelfoam is the preferred material for distal embolization (38%). In total, 63% administer intravenous antibiotics before the procedure and 15% administer intra-arterial antibiotics during the procedure. After embolization, follow-up imaging is recommended by 87%, antibiotics are administered regularly by 33%, clinical follow-up is recommended by 73%, and vaccination against encapsulated organisms is routinely recommended by 39%.

    Inhibitors of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR2) signaling, such as bevacizumab (Bmab), are used for the treatment of various advanced cancers. However, these inhibitors induce renal thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). Recently, two European cohort studies showed a distinctive histopathological pseudothrombotic pattern different from TMA in Bmab-treated patients.

    We analyzed 9 renal biopsies from proteinuric cancer patients treated with VEGF-VEGFR2 inhibitors in our Japanese cohort. Clinical and laboratory features were also assessed in these patients.

    All 9 patients had moderate to heavy proteinuria with normal or slightly elevated serum creatinine levels. On light microscopy, a patchy pattern of hemispherical/spherical lesions along glomerular capillary walls was a characteristic finding. On immunofluorescence microscopy, staining for immunoglobulins (IgM dominant) at varying intensities was observed mainly along glomerular capillary walls. Especially, hemispherical/spherical positive staining for immunoglobulins was a characteristic pattern.

We used the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database to identify 6203 patients aged ≥ 20 years with NSTEMI hospitalization and prescription of dual antiplatelets at discharge between January 2014 and December 2014. Cohorts of ticagrelor and clopidogrel were matched 11 based on propensity score matching to balance baseline covariates. The primary composite efficacy endpoints included death from any cause, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and non-fatal stroke. The secondary efficacy endpoints were the individual components. The primary safety endpoint was major bleeding requiring hospitalization. The incidence of primary efficacy endpoint was 20.3% in the ticagrelor users and 20.7% in the clopidogrel users (adjusted HR 0.94; 95% CI 0.73-1.22), with the median (interquartile range, IQR) follow-up period of 5.2 (2.3-8.5) months. The incidence of primary safety endpoint was 2.3% in the ticagrelor users and 3.2% in the clopidogrel users (adjusted HR 0.67; 95% CI 0.33-1.35). The migration rates of hTM cells were examined in the presence of TGF-β2 with or without mTOR inhibitors. An in vitro study showed that the expression of fibronectin, COL1A1, and αSMA was upregulated by TGF-β2 treatment of hTM cells; such upregulation was significantly suppressed by mTOR inhibitors. The inhibitors significantly reduced the migration rate of TGF-β2-stimulated hTM cells. mTOR inhibitors may usefully reduce the fibrotic response of hTM cells and we may have to explore if it is also effective in in vivo model.To compare enzalutamide (E) and abiraterone acetate (AA) in terms of efficacy, survival and to characterize prognostic factors affecting survival in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients. A total of 250 patients treated with E or AA in 5 centers were included. The number of patients with no prostate specific antigen (PSA) decline was higher in the AA group than that in the E group, and the proportion of patients with a PSA decline of ≥ 50% was higher in the E group (p = 0.020). Radiological progression free survival (rPFS) and overall survival (OS) were significantly longer in the E group when compared to that in the AA group (p  less then  0.001 and p = 0.027, respectively). In the E group, rPFS was significantly longer than that in the AA group in both pre- and post-docetaxel settings (p = 0.010 and p = 0.003, respectively). OS was similar in the pre-docetaxel setting; but in the post-docetaxel setting, E group had a significantly longer OS than the AA group (p = 0.021). In the multivariate analysis performed in the whole patient group, we found that good prognostic factors for rPFS were E treatment, being ≥ 75 years and a PSA decline of ≥ 50% while there was no factor affecting OS.

Cohorts of ticagrelor and clopidogrel were matched 11 based on propensity score matching to balance baseline covariates. The primary composite efficacy endpoints included death from any cause, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and non-fatal stroke. The secondary efficacy endpoints were the individual components. The primary safety endpoint was major bleeding requiring hospitalization. The incidence of primary efficacy endpoint was 20.3% in the ticagrelor users and 20.7% in the clopidogrel users (adjusted HR 0.94; 95% CI 0.73-1.22), with the median (interquartile range, IQR) follow-up period of 5.2 (2.3-8.5) months. The migration rates of hTM cells were examined in the presence of TGF-β2 with or without mTOR inhibitors. An in vitro study showed that the expression of fibronectin, COL1A1, and αSMA was upregulated by TGF-β2 treatment of hTM cells; such upregulation was significantly suppressed by mTOR inhibitors. The inhibitors significantly reduced the migration rate of TGF-β2-stimulated hTM cells. mTOR inhibitors may usefully reduce the fibrotic response of hTM cells and we may have to explore if it is also effective in in vivo model.To compare enzalutamide (E) and abiraterone acetate (AA) in terms of efficacy, survival and to characterize prognostic factors affecting survival in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients. A total of 250 patients treated with E or AA in 5 centers were included. The number of patients with no prostate specific antigen (PSA) decline was higher in the AA group than that in the E group, and the proportion of patients with a PSA decline of ≥ 50% was higher in the E group (p = 0.020). Radiological progression free survival (rPFS) and overall survival (OS) were significantly longer in the E group when compared to that in the AA group (p  less then  0.001 and p = 0.027, respectively). In the E group, rPFS was significantly longer than that in the AA group in both pre- and post-docetaxel settings (p = 0.010 and p = 0.003, respectively). OS was similar in the pre-docetaxel setting; but in the post-docetaxel setting, E group had a significantly longer OS than the AA group (p = 0.021). In the multivariate analysis performed in the whole patient group, we found that good prognostic factors for rPFS were E treatment, being ≥ 75 years and a PSA decline of ≥ 50% while there was no factor affecting OS.

To meet the updated environmental emission standard, the NTP catalysis reaction system needs to be better understood and further optimized. In this work, the degradation process of benzene in NTP, which is still regarded as a "black box" process, was explored by synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometry (SVUV-PIMS). For the first time, we observed over 20 representative species by PIMS and identified their structures accurately by photoionization efficiency (PIE) spectra. Phenol, acetylene and acrolein were recognized as the three main products. More intriguingly, concentration profiles demonstrated that a large amount of acrolein and also several higher-order products, which were usually neglected in previous research, were produced during the NTP destruction process. The details of the benzene degradation reaction mechanism, were finally established by the combination of SVUV-PIMS results, thermochemistry and theoretical calculations. This work helps to complete the mechanistic picture of plasma chemistry, which may be helpful on raveling the more complicated NTP catalysis mechanism in the future therefore contributing to design of improved NTP system for environmental applications.The emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have become major concerns for both public health and environmental ecosystems. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the effects and intrinsic mechanisms of EPs, including microplastics, engineered nanomaterials, disinfection byproducts, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products, on the occurrence and dissemination of ARGs. State-of-the-art methods for identifying culture-independent ARG-host interactions and monitoring horizontal gene transfer (HGT) processes in real-time are first reviewed. The contributions of EPs to the abundance and diversity of ARGs are then summarized. Finally, we discussed the underlying mechanisms related to the regulation of HGT, increased mutagenesis, and the evolution of microbial communities. Further details of three HGT (i.e., conjugation, transformation, and transduction) frequency patterns in response to various EPs are also examined. This review contemplates and reassesses the risks of ARG evolution posed by the manufacture and application of EPs.A versatile green synthesis technique of pulsed laser irradiation and the sonochemical process was used for the production of functionalized gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) in the presence of lignin matrixes. In this study, the futuristic advantages of the lignin biopolymer were explored for the preparation of zero-valent Au NPs in the absence of any other reducing agents. The resulting lignin functionalized Au NPs (L-Auf NPs) were characterized via high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV-vis spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The optimum lignin concentration can generate uniformly dispersed crystalline L-Auf NPs. The optimized L-Auf (1-5) NPs permit the selective colorimetric detection of heavy metal ions; thus, the L-Auf (1-5) NPs demonstrated a highly selective colorimetric sensing tendency toward Pb2+ ions within a short time interval among the various metal ions (Pb2+, Fe3+, Cu2+, Cr6+, Co2+, Ag2+, Ca2+, Cd2+, Ba2+, and Hg2+). The prominent color change of L-Auf NPs from red wine to purple indicates the detection of Pb2+ ions. This robust characteristic nature of L-Auf (1-5) NPs can also detect very low concentrations of 1.8 μM in the linear range of 0.1-1 mM. LTC allocated more As in root and majority of As was deposited in cell wall. LTC had more hemicellulose 1 (HC1) and lignin, PME and PAL activities. The uronic acid contents of pectin, HC1 or HC2 were all positively (P less then 0.05) correlated with As concentrations in each component, respectively. Chemistry of LTC root cell wall was remodelled in terms of changes in porosity, HC and lignin contents, and functional groups, which potentially exerted coupling effects on As entering and deposition.

  • Endoscopic prelacrimal recess approach is a promising technique for treating various maxillary sinus diseases because it allows for adequate visualization and wide access to the entire maxillary sinus. However, the incidence of absent prelacrimal recess (PLR) has ranged from 7% to 17.5%, implying that there is a limitation for the application of EPLA in this population. Here, a male patient with concomitant Krouse T2 maxillary inverted papilloma and mycetoma presenting with unilateral nasal obstruction and blood-tinged secretion is described. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the spatial distribution of COVID-19 cases, epidemic spread rate, spatial pattern during the first to the second waves in the South Sumatra Province of Indonesia. This study used the geographical information system (GIS) software to map the spatial distribution of COVID-19 cases and epidemic spread rate. The spatial autocorrelation of the COVID-19 cases was carried out using Moran's I, while the Pearson correlation was used to examining the relationship between meteorological factors and the epidemic spread rate. Most infected areas and the direction of virus spread were predicted using wind rose analysis. The results revealed that the epidemic rapidly spread from August 1 to December 1, 2020. The highest epidemic spread rate was observed in the Palembang district and in its peripheral areas (dense urban areas), while the lowest spread rate was found in the eastern and southern parts of South Sumatra Province (remote areas). The spatial correlation characteristic of the epidemic distribution exhibited a negative correlation and random distribution. Air temperature, wind speed, and precipitation have contributed to a significant impact on the high epidemic spread rate in the second wave. In summary, this study offers new insight for arranging control and prevention strategies against the potential of second wave strike.
    This retrospective cohort study aimed to determine the diagnostic utility of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in the quantitative evaluation of mandibular osteomyelitis.

    We analyzed the records of 70 patients aged 30 to 90 years, with and without osteomyelitis, who underwent magnetic resonance imaging at the Nihon University School of Dentistry between April 2017 and March 2019. The mean ADC of bone marrow of patients without osteomyelitis and those with acute and chronic osteomyelitis of the mandible were calculated. Differences in ADC overall and in pair-wise comparisons were analyzed. Correlations with patient age were also calculated.

    The mean ADC values in the nonosteomyelitis, acute osteomyelitis, and chronic osteomyelitis groups were 0.87 ± 0.15×10

In this review, we summarize current knowledge on disturbances of brain metabolism of glucose and substrates by hypoxia-ischemia, and compound effects of these mechanisms on brain injury characterized by specific patterns on EEG and MRI. Risks and benefits of nutrition delivery via parenteral or enteral routes are examined. Nutrition could mitigate adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes, and the impact of nutritional strategies and specific nutritional interventions are reviewed. Limited literature highlights the need for further studies to understand the changes in energy metabolism during and after hypoxic-ischemic injury, to optimize nutritional regimens and glucose management, and to inform the neuroprotective role of nutrition.Neonatal encephalopathy (NE) is a significant complication of the peripartum period. It can lead to lifelong neurologic disabilities, including cerebral palsy, cognitive impairments, developmental delays, and epilepsy. Induced hypothermia is the first therapy, which has shown promise in improving the outcomes for neonates with moderate to severe NE following a presumed intrapartum insult. NE is also a frequent source of medical malpractice litigation. In this paper, we will review salient features of the American Tort System as it pertains to medical malpractice. We will discuss the obstetric medico-legal implications of therapeutic hypothermia and suggest a five-step approach to analyzing neonatal cases for causation, etiology, timing of occurrence, responsibility, and liability. We will close with three illustrative clinical cases.
    We present the results of the PHRC Tridicol, a prospective French phase II study whose objective was to increase the dose delivered to the target volume during brachytherapy for locally advanced cervical cancers.

    Eight centers included 48 patients, treated with concomitant radiochemotherapy, then uterovaginal brachytherapy.

    The median follow-up was 63 months. The dose of brachytherapy delivered in biological equivalent dose (EQD2) to 90% of the High Risk CTV (D90 CTV HR) was 80Gy in median dose. The 5-year local control rate (LC) was 84%, close to the hypothesis of 86.7%. The rate of severe complications (grade 3-4) was 23% at 5 years. The rectal dose was correlated with the risk of severe complications.

    HR CTV dose was below the target (85Gy) due to low use of parametrial interstitial needles, as the centers did not always have an adequate applicator, or were at the time at the beginning of their learning curve. The 5-year LC rate was improved compared to that of the comparable STIC PDR group (78%) but lower than the retroEMBRACE cohort of GEC ESTRO (89%).

The highest epidemic spread rate was observed in the Palembang district and in its peripheral areas (dense urban areas), while the lowest spread rate was found in the eastern and southern parts of South Sumatra Province (remote areas). The spatial correlation characteristic of the epidemic distribution exhibited a negative correlation and random distribution. Air temperature, wind speed, and precipitation have contributed to a significant impact on the high epidemic spread rate in the second wave. This retrospective cohort study aimed to determine the diagnostic utility of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in the quantitative evaluation of mandibular osteomyelitis. We analyzed the records of 70 patients aged 30 to 90 years, with and without osteomyelitis, who underwent magnetic resonance imaging at the Nihon University School of Dentistry between April 2017 and March 2019. The mean ADC of bone marrow of patients without osteomyelitis and those with acute and chronic osteomyelitis of the mandible were calculated. Differences in ADC overall and in pair-wise comparisons were analyzed. Correlations with patient age were also calculated. The mean ADC values in the nonosteomyelitis, acute osteomyelitis, and chronic osteomyelitis groups were 0.87 ± 0.15×10 , 1.24 ± 0.11×10 , and 1.07 ± 0.13×10 mm /s, respectively (P < .001 for all pair-wise comparisons). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed an ADC cut-off of 0.98 for osteomyelitis. Diagnostic values for predicting osteomyelitis were ≥ .81. No correlations of osteomyelitis with age were found. The ADC was significantly higher in the osteomyelitis groups than in the nonosteomyelitis group. NE is also a frequent source of medical malpractice litigation. In this paper, we will review salient features of the American Tort System as it pertains to medical malpractice. We will discuss the obstetric medico-legal implications of therapeutic hypothermia and suggest a five-step approach to analyzing neonatal cases for causation, etiology, timing of occurrence, responsibility, and liability. We will close with three illustrative clinical cases. We present the results of the PHRC Tridicol, a prospective French phase II study whose objective was to increase the dose delivered to the target volume during brachytherapy for locally advanced cervical cancers. Eight centers included 48 patients, treated with concomitant radiochemotherapy, then uterovaginal brachytherapy. The median follow-up was 63 months. The dose of brachytherapy delivered in biological equivalent dose (EQD2) to 90% of the High Risk CTV (D90 CTV HR) was 80Gy in median dose. The 5-year local control rate (LC) was 84%, close to the hypothesis of 86.7%. The rate of severe complications (grade 3-4) was 23% at 5 years. The rectal dose was correlated with the risk of severe complications. HR CTV dose was below the target (85Gy) due to low use of parametrial interstitial needles, as the centers did not always have an adequate applicator, or were at the time at the beginning of their learning curve. Secondary analyses evaluated potential moderating variables. A total of 41 individual samples, from 29 studies, of 8,679 AYA (weighted average age = 23.8 years) were synthesized. The proportion of AYA who met study-defined thresholds for PrEP adherence was .64 (95% confidence interval .57-.71) across studies. Subgroup analyses revealed that adherence was lower in young cisgender women (.46) than young men who have sex with men (.65) and serodiscordant heterosexual couples (.98). Adherence was higher in studies initiated after 2012 (.70) than earlier studies (.47). No differences based on participant age, country, or strategies to promote adherence were found. An additional 48-h reaction using fresh MnP/co-oxidants increased the delignification rate to 14.2%. Simultaneous enzymatic delignification and saccharification, which occurs without a need for glucose supplementation, successfully improved the glucose yield to 160% of the reaction without MnP. The majority (86.7%) were ethnic Chinese while two (6.7%) each were Malay and Sri Lankan Tamil ethnicity respectively. Among patients, mean age of symptom-onset was 55.9 ± 9.8 years with mean duration from symptom-onset to diagnosis of 3.2 ± 2.5 years. Common presenting symptoms were sensory symptoms of upper limbs (43.3%), symmetric sensory symptoms of both lower limbs (16.7%) and autonomic symptoms (16.7%). Nerve conduction studies showed sensorimotor polyneuropathy in 25 (83.3%) patients (22, axonal). Abnormal echocardiograms were seen in 24 (80%) patients, although 15 were asymptomatic.   • To assess the agreement in measurements of Hct values and hemoglobin (Hgb) concentrations in blood samples from dogs and cats between a commercially available veterinary point-of-care (POC) Hct meter and a laboratory-based (LAB) analyzer and to determine the effects of various conditions (ie, lipemia, hyperbilirubinemia, hemolysis, autoagglutination, and reticulocytosis) on the accuracy of the POC meter.

Medical records of birds of any species that underwent a CT scan which included administration of nonionic iodinated contrast medium from June 2013 to February 2020 were included. Information on birds and use of contrast medium was extracted from the medical records as well as information on deaths following IV or IO administration of contrast medium. 6 birds died shortly following administration of contrast medium. Necropsies were performed in 3 birds (2 cockatiels and 1 macaw), and all had lesions associated with the respiratory tract. When body weight was used as a binary variable to compare odds of death between small birds (≤ 150 g [0.33 lb]) and large birds (> 150 g), small birds had a 97-fold increased odds (OR, 97.5; 95% CI, 9.8 to 966.0) of dying following contrast medium administration. Mean ± SD number of days meloxicam was detected in egg whites and yolks after drug administration was 4.25 ± 2 days and 9.0 ± 1.5 days, respectively. Compared with White Leghorn hens, meloxicam in Wyandotte hens had a longer terminal half-life, greater area under the plasma concentration-versus-time curve from time 0 to infinity, a smaller elimination rate constant, and a longer mean residence time-versus-time curve from time 0 to infinity, and drug persisted longer in their egg yolks.
