  • Sodium-ion batteries (NIBs) are promising candidates for specific stationary applications considering their low-cost and cost-effective energetic property compared to lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Additional cost cutbacks are achievable by employing natural materials as active cathode materials for NIBs. In this work, we report the use of natural pyrolusite (β-MnO2) as a precursor for the synthesis of a NaMnO blend (a mixture of layered P2-Na0.67Mn0.85Al0.15O2 without any doping technique combined with a post-spinel NaMn2O4 without any high-pressure synthesis). The synthesized powder was characterized by XRD, evidencing these two phases, along with two additional phases. Tests for Na-ion insertion registered a reversible discharge capacity of 104 mA h/g after 10 cycles with a well-defined plateau at 2.25 V. After 500 cycles at a C/4 current density, a high Coulombic efficiency between 96 and 99% was achieved, with an overall 25% capacity retention loss. These pilot tests are encouraging; they provide economic relief since the natural material is abundant (low-cost). Desirable, energetic assurances and ecological confirmations are obtainable if these materials are implemented in large-scale stationary applications. In this review, we summarize the recent progress in the growth of SC-based perovskite films for the fabrication of high-efficiency and stable PSCs. We describe the impact of SC growth of perovskite films and their quality on the device performance and stability, compared with the commonly used polycrystalline perovskite films. In the last section, the challenges and potential of SCs in PSCs are also covered for future development.Tailoring the characteristics of anisotropic nanostructures like size, morphology, aspect ratio, and size dispersity is of extreme importance due to the unique and tunable properties including catalytic, optical, photocatalytic, magnetic, photochemical, electrochemical, photoelectrochemical, and several other physical properties. The reverse microemulsion (RM) method offers a useful soft-template and low-temperature procedure that, by variation of experimental conditions and nature of reagents, has proved to be extremely versatile in synthesis of nanostructures with tailored properties. Although many reports of synthesis of nanostructures by the RM method exist in the literature, most of the research studies carried out still follow the "hit and trial" method where the synthesis conditions, reagents, and other factors are varied and the resulting characteristics of the obtained nanostructures are justified on the basis of existing physical chemistry principles. Mechanistic investigations are scarce to generate a set of empirical rules that would aid in preplanning the RM-based synthesis of nanostructures with desired characteristics as well as make the process viable on an industrial scale. A consolidation of such research data available in the literature is essential for providing future directions in the field. In this perspective, we analyze the literature reports that have investigated the mechanistic aspects of growth of anisotropic nanostructures using the RM method and distil the essence of the present understanding at the nanoscale timescale using techniques like FCS and ultrafast spectroscopy in addition to routine techniques like DLS, fluorescence, TEM, etc.
    Biliary cannulation, although critical to procedural success in ERCP, can be difficult and, if unsuccessful, can lead to longer hospital stays, repeat procedures, and increased costs. Expertise in adjunct techniques, including access fistulotomy, can increase success rates and potentially avoid these issues. The aim of this case series is to describe the technique of access fistulotomy and illustrate key points that are important for successful biliary access.

    Three cases are reviewed in which access fistulotomy was used to achieve biliary access. The steps for the procedure are reviewed, and key technical tips and anatomic landmarks are illustrated in the video.

    Successful biliary access is obtained using fistulotomy in 3 cases. In each case, the anatomic landmarks of the papilla and intraduodenal biliary segment are reviewed. The first case illustrates a large papilla in which initial incision followed by careful exposure reveals a clear "onion ring" structure corresponding to the bile duct. The second case requires stepwise incision, each guided by anatomic landmarks before the biliary adventitia is identified, leading to biliary cannulation.

We undertook allele and genotype haplotype association studies in all the cases and in the subgroups, as well as adjust age by binary logistic regression. Furthermore, the distribution of the haplotypes formed by the nine SNPs mentioned between the HDP patients and healthy pregnant controls were analyzed. There were no statistically significant differences in the nine SNPs of eNOS, MMP-9, and BAG-6 gene allele and genotype frequencies between HDP or subtypes and controls.     Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a severely disabling psychiatric disease characterized by impairments in communication and social skills. Although efforts have been made to explore the etiology of ASD, its pathophysiology remains unclear. This issue is rendered more challenging by confounding data about the effects of vaccination on disease etiology. In this study, therefore, we investigated the neurodevelopmental effects of maternal tetanus toxoid administration on rat offspring. We hypothesized that the vaccine affects the sociability and preference for social novelty of rat offspring as well as the production of immunological and neurotrophic factors, including tumor necrosis factor-alfa (TNF-α), neuregulin-1 (NRG-1), neuron growth factor (NGF), and oxytocin.

    The study involved 12 female and 4 male adult Sprague-Dawley rats (238 ± 10 g), which were assigned to two groups. Group 1 (control group) was given 0.5 ml of normal saline (0.9% NaCl) on the 10th day of pregnancy, whereas Group 2 (experimental group) was administered 0.5 ml of tetanus vaccine (tetanus toxoid, 40 IU).

    Maternal tetanus toxoid administration exerted beneficial effects on the sociability and explorative behaviors of the rats. The brain tissue levels of TNF-α, NGF, NRG-1, and oxytocin were higher in the experimental group than those among the controls. All these significant differences were found in both the male and female rats.

    Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has contributed to increase in the remission rate for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). However, current rTMS treatment is practically inconvenient because it requires daily treatment sessions for several weeks. Accelerated rTMS treatment is as efficient and safe for MDD patients as conventional rTMS.

    Fifty-one patients with MDD participated in this study; they were randomized into accelerated rTMS (n = 21), conventional rTMS (n = 22), and sham-treatment (n = 8) groups. The accelerated and conventional rTMS groups received 15 sessions for 3 days and 3 weeks, respectively. The sham-treatment group received 15 sham rTMS sessions for 3 days. Primary outcome was assessed using self-report and clinician-rated Korean Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (KQIDS-SR and KQIDS-C, respectively). Adverse effects were monitored using the Frequency, Intensity, and Burden of Side Effects Rating scale. Changes in depressive symptoms were compared am accessibility.

    Our findings suggest that the uncinate fasciculus may be associated with AG symptoms in PD, possibly through demyelination. Our findings may contribute to the neurobiological evidence regarding the association between AG and WM structural changes in PD.

Although efforts have been made to explore the etiology of ASD, its pathophysiology remains unclear. This issue is rendered more challenging by confounding data about the effects of vaccination on disease etiology. In this study, therefore, we investigated the neurodevelopmental effects of maternal tetanus toxoid administration on rat offspring. We hypothesized that the vaccine affects the sociability and preference for social novelty of rat offspring as well as the production of immunological and neurotrophic factors, including tumor necrosis factor-alfa (TNF-α), neuregulin-1 (NRG-1), neuron growth factor (NGF), and oxytocin. The study involved 12 female and 4 male adult Sprague-Dawley rats (238 ± 10 g), which were assigned to two groups. Group 1 (control group) was given 0.5 ml of normal saline (0.9% NaCl) on the 10th day of pregnancy, whereas Group 2 (experimental group) was administered 0.5 ml of tetanus vaccine (tetanus toxoid, 40 IU). Maternal tetanus toxoid administration exerted beneficial effects on the sociability and explorative behaviors of the rats. However, current rTMS treatment is practically inconvenient because it requires daily treatment sessions for several weeks. This set of dPCR assays can accurately and reliably measure the number of SMN1 and SMN2 copies in DNA samples. In a cohort of SMA patient-derived cell lines, the assay confirmed a strong inverse correlation between SMN2 CN and disease severity. We can detect SMN1-SMN2 gene conversion events in DNA samples by comparing CNs at exon 7 and exon 8. Partial deletions of SMN1 can also be detected with dPCR by comparing CNs at exon 7 or exon 8 with those at intron 1.   • Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infections are prevalent worldwide. Various viruses have been detected in the ejaculate and can outlast the duration of viremia, indicating replication beyond the blood-testis barrier. HEV replication in diverse organs, however, is still widely misunderstood. We aimed to determine the occurrence, features and morphology of HEV in the ejaculate.

    The presence of HEV in testis was assessed in 12 experimentally HEV-genotype 3-infected pigs. We further tested ejaculate, urine, stool and blood from 3 chronically HEV genotype 3-infected patients and 6 immunocompetent patients with acute HEV infection by HEV-PCR. Morphology and genomic characterization of HEV particles from various human compartments were determined by HEV-PCR, density gradient measurement, immune-electron microscopy and genomic sequencing.

    In 2 of the 3 chronically HEV-infected patients, we observed HEV-RNA (genotype 3c) in seminal plasma and semen with viral loads >2 logs higher than in the serum. Genomic sequencinghepatitis E virus particles could be identified by PCR and electron microscopy in the ejaculate of immunosuppressed chronically infected patients, but not in immunocompetent experimentally infected pigs or in patients with acute self-limiting hepatitis E.
    Patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) who have an incomplete response to ursodeoxycholic acid remain at risk of disease progression. We investigated the safety and efficacy of elafibranor, a dual PPARα/δ agonist, in patients with PBC.

    This 12-week, double-blind phase II trial enrolled 45 adults with PBC who had incomplete response to ursodeoxycholic acid (alkaline phosphatase levels ≥1.67-fold the upper limit of normal (ULN). Patients were randomly assigned to elafibranor 80 mg, elafibranor 120 mg or placebo. The primary endpoint was the relative change of ALP at 12 weeks (NCT03124108).

    At 12 weeks, ALP was reduced by -48.3±14.8% in the elafibranor 80 mg group (p <0.001 vs. placebo) and by -40.6±17.4% in the elafibranor 120 mg group (p <0.001) compared to a+3.2±14.8% increase in the placebo group. The composite endpoint of ALP ≤1.67-fold the ULN, decrease of ALP >15% and total bilirubin below the ULN was achieved in 67% patients in the elafibranor 80 mg group and 79% patients in the epond to standard therapy remain at risk of disease progression toward cirrhosis and impaired quality of life. Elafibranor is a nuclear receptor agonist that we tested in a randomized clinical trial over 12 weeks. It successfully decreased levels of disease activity markers, including alkaline phosphatase. Thus, this study is the foundation for a larger prospective study that will determine the efficacy and safety of this drug as a second-line therapy.

    Little is known about the metabolic regulation of cancer stem cells (CSCs) in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). We analyzed whether mitochondrial-dependent metabolism and related signaling pathways contribute to stemness in CCA.

    The stem-like subset was enriched by sphere culture (SPH) in human intrahepatic CCA cells (HUCCT1 and CCLP1) and compared to cells cultured in monolayer. Extracellular flux analysis was examined by Seahorse technology and high-resolution respirometry. In patients with CCA, expression of factors related to mitochondrial metabolism was analyzed for possible correlation with clinical parameters.

    Metabolic analyses revealed a more efficient respiratory phenotype in CCA-SPH than in monolayers, due to mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. Herein, we evaluated the expression of NKG2D ligands in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), in both humans and ****, taking the genomic features of HCC tumours into account.

    The expression of NKG2D ligands (****, ****, ULBP1 and ULBP2) was analysed in large human HCC datasets by Fluidigm TaqMan and RNA-seq methods, and in 2 mouse models (mRNA and protein levels) reproducing the features of both major groups of human tumours.

    Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infections are prevalent worldwide. Various viruses have been detected in the ejaculate and can outlast the duration of viremia, indicating replication beyond the blood-testis barrier. HEV replication in diverse organs, however, is still widely misunderstood. We aimed to determine the occurrence, features and morphology of HEV in the ejaculate. The presence of HEV in testis was assessed in 12 experimentally HEV-genotype 3-infected pigs. We further tested ejaculate, urine, stool and blood from 3 chronically HEV genotype 3-infected patients and 6 immunocompetent patients with acute HEV infection by HEV-PCR. Morphology and genomic characterization of HEV particles from various human compartments were determined by HEV-PCR, density gradient measurement, immune-electron microscopy and genomic sequencing. In 2 of the 3 chronically HEV-infected patients, we observed HEV-RNA (genotype 3c) in seminal plasma and semen with viral loads >2 logs higher than in the serum. We investigated the safety and efficacy of elafibranor, a dual PPARα/δ agonist, in patients with PBC. This 12-week, double-blind phase II trial enrolled 45 adults with PBC who had incomplete response to ursodeoxycholic acid (alkaline phosphatase levels ≥1.67-fold the upper limit of normal (ULN). Patients were randomly assigned to elafibranor 80 mg, elafibranor 120 mg or placebo. The primary endpoint was the relative change of ALP at 12 weeks (NCT03124108). The aim of this prospective study was to describe outcomes following arthroscopic resection of 12 (38.71%) CNC and 19 (61.29%) TLAP cases in 30 consecutive pediatric patients treated between July 2009 and March 2013. There mean age was 12.4 (range 10 to 15) years, and the mean follow-up was 55.2 (range 24 to 79) months. Radiographs, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Ankle-Hindfoot Scores, AOFAS pain scores, and patient satisfaction were assessed. All final postoperative imaging scans revealed complete synostosis resection without recurrence. The mean overall AOFAS Ankle-Hindfoot Score increased from 78.87 (95% confidence interval [CI] 76.74 to 81.01) to 93.06 (95% CI 91.10 to 95.03) (p less then .001). All patients showed pain reduction after surgery; even 1 patient (3.23%) who initially developed complex regional pain syndrome eventually had a successful outcome. The mean AOFAS pain score increased from 23.87 (95% CI 22.05 to 25.69) to 34.84 (95% CI 32.97 to 36.70) (p less then .001). All patients were either satisfied (n = 9 [30%]) or very satisfied (n = 21 [70%]) with the intervention at the final follow-up.   • Commercial gas chromatograph-mass spectrometers, one of which being Inficon's HAPSITE® ER, have demonstrated chemical detection and identification of nerve agents (G-series) and blistering agents (mustard gas) in the field; however most analyses relies on self-contained or external calibration that inherently drifts over time. We describe an analytical approach that uses target-based thermal desorption standards, called focusing agents, to accurately calculate concentrations of chemical warfare agents that are analyzed by gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry. Here, we provide relative response factors of focusing agents (2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide, diisopropyl fluorophosphate, diethyl methylphosphonate, diethyl malonate, methyl salicylate, and dichlorvos) that are used to quantify concentrations of tabun, sarin, soman, cyclosarin and sulfur mustard loaded on thermal desorption tubes (Tenax® TA). Aging effects of focusing agents are evaluated by monitoring deviations in quantification as thermal desorption tubes age in storage at room temperature and relative humidity. The addition of focusing agents improves the quantification of tabun, sarin, soman, cyclosarin and sulfur mustard that is analyzed within the same day as well as a 14-day period. Among the six focusing agents studied here, diisopropyl fluorophosphate has the best performance for nerve agents (G-series) and blistering agents (mustard gas) compared to other focusing agents in this work and is recommended for field use for quantification. The use of focusing agent in the field leads to more accurate and reliable quantification of Tabun (GA), Sarin (GB), Soman (GD), Cyclosarin (GF) and Sulfur Mustard (HD) than the traditional internal standard. Future improvements on the detection of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials (CBRNE) can be safely demonstrated with standards calibrated for harmful agents.

    This study was designed to evaluate the serum malondialdehyde (MDA), non-enzymatic antioxidants (vitamin A and C), macro-minerals (magnesium and calcium), and trace elements (zinc, copper, and iron) levels in patients with coronary artery disease (***) and to explore their role in disease progression.

    This prospective case-control study was comprised of 40 *** patients and 40 healthy volunteers as cases and control subjects, respectively. The level of lipid peroxidation was assessed by measuring the serum MDA level using a UV spectrophotometer. The levels of vitamins A and C were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and UV spectrophotometric method, respectively. Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) was used to measure serum macro-minerals (Mg and Ca) and trace elements (Zn, Cu, and Fe) concentrations.

    The mean age of *** patients and control subjects was 53.90 ± 2.22 and 37.03 ± 1.50 years, respectively. This study revealed significantly higher concentrations of MDA (p < 0.01) and lower concentrations of vitamin A (p < 0.01), and vitamin C (p < 0.05) in the *** patients than in control subjects. The mean values of Mg, Cu, Zn, Ca, and Fe were 11.67 ± 0.64, 1.17 ± 0.03, 0.43 ± 0.02, 107.38 ± 1.81, and 1.66 ± 0.04 μg/mL, respectively for the *** patients and 19.38 ± 0.65, 1.07 ± 0.02, 0.87 ± 0.02, 94.29 ± 1.89, and 1.52 ± 0.05 μg/mL, respectively for the controls and the differences were significant (p < 0.05) between the patients and controls.

Two previously undescribed pentacyclic lupane-type triterpenes, 3-formyloxybetulin and 3-formyloxybetulinic acid, two rare degraded ergosterols, pyropolincisterols A and B, along with ten known triterpenoids and four known ergosterols were isolated from the fruiting bodies of P. fomentarius. Their chemical structures were determined using a combination of spectroscopic analysis. Nine compounds exhibited certain cytotoxicities to human cancer cell lines, while polyporenic acid showed significant cytotoxicities to SMMC-7721 and A-549 with IC50 values less than 10 μM. Four compounds showed inhibitory activities against nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-activated RAW264.7 macrophages with IC50 values of 36.3, 25.1, 21.4, and 34.2 μM, respectively. Two previously undescribed pentacyclic lupane-type triterpenes, 3-formyloxybetulin and 3-formyloxybetulinic acid, two rare degraded ergosterols, pyropolincisterols A and B, along with ten known triterpenoids and four known ergosterols were isolated from the fruiting bodies of P. fomentarius. Their chemical structures were determined using a combination of spectroscopic analysis. Nine compounds exhibited certain cytotoxicities to human cancer cell lines, while polyporenic acid showed significant cytotoxicities to SMMC-7721 and A-549 with IC50 values less than 10 μM. Four compounds showed inhibitory activities against nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-activated RAW264.7 macrophages with IC50 values of 36.3, 25.1, 21.4, and 34.2 μM, respectively. The results of this assessment suggested that the lanostane triterpenoids and ergosterols in fruiting bodies of P. fomentarius played key roles in its folk usages.

Hereby we have focussed on signaling neurotransmitters and neuropeptides which may be a target for future therapies. Furthermore, we have summarized retrospective results of the previous literature about nerve fibers in PDAC and CCA patients. We provide our point of view in the potential for nerve fibers to be used as powerful biomarker for prognosis, as a tool to stratify patients for therapy or as a target in a (combination) therapy. A control program is managed cooperatively between the governments of the United States and Panama to prevent the northward spread of NWS from infested countries in South America. This is accomplished by maintaining a permanent barrier through the release of millions of sterile male and female flies in the border between Panama and Colombia. Our research team demonstrated the utility of biotechnology-enhanced approaches for SIT by developing a male-only strain of the NWS. The strain carried a single component tetracycline repressible female lethal system where females died at late larval/pupal stages. The control program can be further improved by removing females during embryonic development as larval diet costs are sigacteristics observed in small-scale rearing.

The early development of D. suzukii is similar to that of other Drosophilids, but the roles of individual genes must be confirmed experimentally. Cellularization genes coordinate the onset of cell division as soon as the invagination of membranes starts around the nuclei in the syncytial blastoderm. The promoters of these genes have been used in genetic pest-control systems to express transgenes that confer embryonic lethality. Such systems could be helpful in sterile insect technique applications to ensure that sterility (bi-sex embryonic lethality) or sexing (female-specific embryonic lethality) can be achieved during mass rearing. The activity of cellularization gene promoters during embryogenesis controls the timing and dose of the lethal gene product.

The complete genome of K. michiganensis BD177 comprises one circular chromosome and four plasmids with a GC content of 55.03%. The pan-genome analysis was performed on 119 genomes (strain BD177 genome and 118 out of 128 published Klebsiella sp. genomes since ten were discarded). The pan-genome includes a total of 49305 gene clusters, a small number of 858 core genes, and a high orsalis.
    Phylogenomics analysis reclassified strain BD177 as a member of the species K. michiganensis. Comparative genome analysis suggested that K. michiganensis BD177 has the strain-specific ability to provide three essential amino acids (phenylalanine, tryptophan and methionine) and two vitamins B (folate and riboflavin) to B. dorsalis. The clear classification status of BD177 strain and identification of unique genetic characteristics may contribute to expanding our understanding of the symbiotic relationship of gut microbiota and B. dorsalis.
    Bactrocera tryoni and Bactrocera neohumeralis mate asynchronously; the former mates exclusively around dusk while the latter mates during the day. The two species also differ in the colour of the post-pronotal lobe (callus), which is predominantly yellow in B. tryoni and brown in B. neohumeralis. We have examined the genetic relationship between the two characters in hybrids, backcrosses and multigeneration hybrid progeny.

    Our analysis of the mating time of the parental species revealed that while B. tryoni mate exclusively at dusk, B. neohumeralis females pair with B. neohumeralis males during the day and with B. tryoni males at dusk. We found considerable variance in mating time and callus colour among hybrid backcross individuals of both sexes but there was a strong although not invariant trend for callus colour to co-segregate with mating time in both sexes. To genetically separate these two phenotypes we allowed the interspecific F1 hybrids to propagate for 25 generations (F25) without selection for mating time or callus colour, finding that the advanced hybrid population had moved towards B.

Comparative genome analysis suggested that K. michiganensis BD177 has the strain-specific ability to provide three essential amino acids (phenylalanine, tryptophan and methionine) and two vitamins B (folate and riboflavin) to B. dorsalis. The clear classification status of BD177 strain and identification of unique genetic characteristics may contribute to expanding our understanding of the symbiotic relationship of gut microbiota and B. dorsalis. Bactrocera tryoni and Bactrocera neohumeralis mate asynchronously; the former mates exclusively around dusk while the latter mates during the day. The two species also differ in the colour of the post-pronotal lobe (callus), which is predominantly yellow in B. tryoni and brown in B. neohumeralis. We have examined the genetic relationship between the two characters in hybrids, backcrosses and multigeneration hybrid progeny. Our analysis of the mating time of the parental species revealed that while B. tryoni mate exclusively at dusk, B. neohumeralis females pair with B. neohumeralis males during the day and with B. tryoni males at dusk. We found considerable variance in mating time and callus colour among hybrid backcross individuals of both sexes but there was a strong although not invariant trend for callus colour to co-segregate with mating time in both sexes. To genetically separate these two phenotypes we allowed the interspecific F1 hybrids to propagate for 25 generations (F25) without selection for mating time or callus colour, finding that the advanced hybrid population had moved towards B.
