Segmentation and mutant classification of high-frequency ultrasound (HFU) mouse embryo brain ventricle (BV) and body images can provide valuable information for developmental biologists. However, manual segmentation and identification of BV and body requires substantial time and expertise. This article proposes an accurate, efficient and explainable deep learning pipeline for automatic segmentation and classification of the BV and body. For segmentation, a two-stage framework is implemented. The first stage produces a low-resolution segmentation map, which is then used to crop a region of interest (ROI) around the target object and serve as the probability map of the autocontext input for the second-stage fine-resolution refinement network. The segmentation then becomes tractable on high-resolution 3-D images without time-consuming sliding windows. The tcMRgHt array was acoustically characterized with a peak negative pressure up to 137 MPa in free field, 72 MPa through an excised human skull with aberration correction, and 48.4 MPa without aberration correction. The electronic focal steering range through the skull was 33.5 mm laterally and 50 mm axially, where peak negative pressure above the 26 MPa cavitation intrinsic threshold can be achieved. The MR-compatibility of the tcMRgHt system was assessed quantitatively using SNR, B0 field map, and B1 field map in a clinical 3T MRI scanner. Transcranial treatment using electronic focal steering was validated in red blood cell phantoms and in vivo pig brain through an excised human skull. In two pigs, targeted cerebral tissue was successfully treated through the human skull as confirmed by MRI. Excessive bleeding or edema was not observed in the peri-target zones by the time of pig euthanasia. These results demonstrated the feasibility of using this preclinical tcMRgHt system for in vivo transcranial treatment in a ***** model.Real-time 3-D ultrasound (US) provides a complete visualization of inner body organs and blood vasculature, crucial for diagnosis and treatment of diverse diseases. A recent study presented a technique called sparse convolutional beamforming algorithm (SCOBA), which obtains improved image quality while allowing notable element reduction in the context of 2-D focused imaging. In this article, we build upon previous work and introduce a nonlinear beamformer for 3-D imaging, called COBA-3D, consisting of 2-D spatial convolution of the in-phase and quadrature received signals. The proposed technique considers diverging-wave transmission and achieves improved image resolution and contrast compared with standard delay-and-sum beamforming while enabling a high frame rate. Incorporating 2-D sparse arrays into our method creates SCOBA-3D a sparse beamformer that offers significant element reduction and, thus, allows performing 3-D imaging with the resources typically available for 2-D setups. To create 2-D thinned arrays, we present a scalable and systematic way to design 2-D fractal sparse arrays. The proposed framework paves the way for affordable ultrafast US devices that perform high-quality 3-D imaging, as demonstrated using phantom and ex-vivo data.Photoacoustic (PA) imaging can revolutionize medical ultrasound by augmenting it with molecular information. However, clinical translation of PA imaging remains a challenge due to the limited viewing angles and imaging depth. Described here is a new robust algorithm called Superiorized Photo-Acoustic Non-NEgative Reconstruction (SPANNER), designed to reconstruct PA images in real-time and to address the artifacts associated with limited viewing angles and imaging depth. The method utilizes precise forward modeling of the PA propagation and reception of signals while accounting for the effects of acoustic absorption, element size, shape, and sensitivity, as well as the transducer's impulse response and directivity pattern. A fast superiorized conjugate gradient algorithm is used for inversion. SPANNER is compared to three reconstruction algorithms delay-and-sum (DAS), universal ****-projection (UBP), and model-based reconstruction (MBR). All four algorithms are applied to both simulations and experimental data acquired from tissue-mimicking phantoms, ex vivo tissue samples, and in vivo imaging of the prostates in patients. Simulations and phantom experiments highlight the ability of SPANNER to improve contrast to background ratio by up to 20 dB compared to all other algorithms, as well as a 3-fold increase in axial resolution compared to DAS and UBP. Applying SPANNER on contrast-enhanced PA images acquired from prostate cancer patients yielded a statistically significant difference before and after contrast agent administration, while the other three image reconstruction methods did not, thus highlighting SPANNER's performance in differentiating intrinsic from extrinsic PA signals and its ability to quantify PA signals from the contrast agent more accurately.

To evaluate pharmacists' opinions on the need for Arabic in pharmacy education and practice in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A questionnaire was developed to address the study objectives and hand delivered to a stratified sample of community pharmacists and a convenience sample of pharmacists in other areas of practice in the UAE. Pharmacists' responses were measured on a 5-point Likert-type scale (strongly disagree to strongly agree) towards teaching of the following topics in Arabic management of chronic diseases and minor ailments, screening for diseases and counselling on smoking cessation, exercise, weight management, diet and nutrition and complementary/alternative medicine. Topics related to communication skills were also assessed. Descriptive statistics on participant responses were calculated and chi-square test of independence examined inter-relationships among pharmacist and pharmacy variables.
A total of 351 pharmacists completed the questionnaire. Almost 50% of pharmacists considered Arabpharmacists agreed that they needed to be included in pharmacy education. A blended learning approach that combines integrated content for native language within an English curriculum could be explored.
To explore pharmacists' views and experiences of pharmacist-administered vaccinations, motivators and barriers to pharmacists administering vaccinations and their preferences for expansions to such services.
All practising pharmacist members (n = 3400) of the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand were invited to participate in an online survey in 2017.
A total of 468 pharmacists completed the survey (14%). Most (86%) strongly agreed/agreed that pharmacists should provide vaccinations, primarily citing patient benefit, for example, convenience, potential for increased vaccination uptake, easing general practice burden and better utilisation of the pharmacist. Half had completed vaccinator training, mainly for professional satisfaction, to help public or community health and/or to provide a new service for their community. Trained pharmacists had administered influenza (95%), pertussis (47%), zoster (45%) and/or meningococcal vaccines (13%), with patient cost limiting some vaccination uptake. Cost or workes (e.g. pharmacy students and technicians) of staff able to vaccinate and having more government funded vaccines available through pharmacies, therefore, improving access for patients.
The global coronavirus pandemic has expedited digitisation in every industry, especially healthcare, and has highlighted the potential for informatics pharmacists to provide valuable input into crisis management. Informatics pharmacists can combine their clinical and information technology skills to help provide essential patient safety services related to medication management, procurement and analytics. The objective of this study was to determine the key opportunities for a pharmacist informatician to improve patient care and outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fourteen expert informatics professionals involved in the provision of digital health in Queensland, Australia, were invited to participate in a brief semistructured interview. Transcripts were manually coded, through iterative readings of the text to identify participant responses related to opportunities for a pharmacist informatician to assist during COVID-19. Mixed-methods approach used a self-administered survey and semi-structured interviews of 13 countries to evaluate the perceived benefits, existence and content of competency frameworks.
Variations in structure, components and emphasis of the four frameworks that do exist indicate significant tailoring to local requirements. Based on these four and the GbCF, 32 competencies allocated into four themes has been proposed.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a closed-loop computerised physician order entry (CPOE) system on prescribing in a general paediatric unit in Hong Kong. We studied the effect of the CPOE system on medication prescribing error and the characteristics of these errors before and after the implementation of the system.
This was a single-site, prospective, observational study at a public hospital's general paediatric unit in Hong Kong, conducted during the pre- and post-implementation of the system from March to April 2019 and 2020, respectively. Collected data included the number of medication orders processed, the number of prescribing errors identified, and the characteristics of errors, such as the severity, children's age group, drug formulation, and drug class.
The prescribing error rate was significantly reduced from 6.7% to 3.9% after CPOE implementation. The causes of prescribing errors were found to be significantly different, as the implementation eradicated handwriting-related errors and reduced dosage selection-related errors. However, we found that CPOE increased other causes of error, such as missing entry of patient information that might affect the dispensing process, thus delaying patients in receiving their medications on time.
The CPOE system significantly reduced prescribing errors and altered some of the characteristics of these errors. Poor system design or inadequate user training could result in the creation of new causes of error.

Finally, coculture of NPCs with P. acnes induced the overexpression of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and NLRP3, while inhibition of both factors reduced NPC pyroptosis. Therefore, P. acnes induces NPC pyroptosis via the ROS-NLRP3 signaling pathway, and the pyroptotic NPCs cause an IVD degeneration cascade. Targeting the P. acnes-induced pyroptosis of NPCs may become an alternative treatment strategy for IVD degeneration in the future.Physical exercise is characterized by an increase in physical and metabolic demand in face of physical stress. It is reported that a single exercise session induces physiological responses through redox signaling to increase cellular function and energy support in diverse organs. However, little is known about the effect of a single bout of exercise on the redox homeostasis and cytoprotective gene expression of white adipose tissue (WAT). Thus, we aimed at evaluating the effects of acute aerobic exercise on WAT redox homeostasis, mitochondrial metabolism, and cytoprotective genic response. Male Wistar rats were submitted to a single moderate-high running session (treadmill) and were divided into five groups control (CTRL, without exercise), and euthanized immediately (0 h), 30 min, 1 hour, or 2 hours after the end of the exercise session. NADPH oxidase activity was higher in 0 h and 30 min groups when compared to CTRL group. Extramitochondrial ROS production was higher in 0 h group in comparison to CTRL and 2 h groups. Mitochondrial respiration in phosphorylative state increased in 0 h group when compared to CTRL, 30 min, 1, and 2 h groups. On the other hand, mitochondrial ATP production was lower in 0 h in comparison to 30 min group, increasing in 1 and 2 h groups when compared to CTRL and 0 h groups. CAT activity was lower in all exercised groups when compared to CTRL. Regarding oxidative stress biomarkers, we observed a decrease in reduced thiol content in 0 h group compared to CTRL and 2 h groups, and higher levels of protein carbonylation in 0 and 30 min groups in comparison to the other groups. The levels returned to basal condition in 2 h group. Furthermore, aerobic exercise increased NRF2, GPX2, HMOX1, SOD1, and CAT mRNA levels. In this article, we report the successful preparation of a highly oriented monolayer of heptacene on Ag(110) by thermal cycloreversion of diheptacenes. In a combined effort of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we characterize the electronic and structural properties of the molecule on the surface in detail. Our investigations allow us to unambiguously confirm the successful fabrication of a highly oriented complete monolayer of heptacene and to describe its electronic structure. By comparing experimental momentum maps of photoemission from frontier orbitals of heptacene and pentacene, we shed light on differences between these two acenes regarding their molecular orientation and energy-level alignment on the metal surfaces.We report on a 29-year-old woman who presented with abdominal right upper quadrant pain after an outpatient liposuction procedure. A contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan revealed 4 hepatic perforation tracts with subcapsular liver hematoma and hematoperitoneum. The patient was treated by intravenous tranexamic acid and isotonic fluids and monitored on an intensive care unit. No intervention or surgery was necessary during her hospital stay. Follow-up imaging after 3 days using contrast-enhanced ultrasound still showed the perforation tracts in the liver but no expansion of subcapsular hematoma. After 7 days, the patient was discharged home with stable hemoglobin and reduced pain. Liver perforation is a rare complication of liposuction procedures. In patients with abdominal pain after liposuction, contrast-enhanced imaging studies should be performed to identify and characterize solid organ injury. Reducing the postoperative acute pain, therefore, is considered important. This study investigated whether the pain intensity and need for rescue analgesics during the immediate postoperative period after thyroidectomy differ according to the methods of anesthesia. Seventy-two patients undergoing total thyroidectomy under general anesthesia were examined. Patients were randomly assigned to undergo either total intravenous anesthesia with remifentanil and propofol (TIVA, n = 35) or propofol induction and maintenance with desflurane and nitrous oxide (volatile anesthesia [VA], n = 37). Thus, we aimed at evaluating the effects of acute aerobic exercise on WAT redox homeostasis, mitochondrial metabolism, and cytoprotective genic response. Male Wistar rats were submitted to a single moderate-high running session (treadmill) and were divided into five groups control (CTRL, without exercise), and euthanized immediately (0 h), 30 min, 1 hour, or 2 hours after the end of the exercise session. NADPH oxidase activity was higher in 0 h and 30 min groups when compared to CTRL group. Extramitochondrial ROS production was higher in 0 h group in comparison to CTRL and 2 h groups. Mitochondrial respiration in phosphorylative state increased in 0 h group when compared to CTRL, 30 min, 1, and 2 h groups. On the other hand, mitochondrial ATP production was lower in 0 h in comparison to 30 min group, increasing in 1 and 2 h groups when compared to CTRL and 0 h groups. Anti-aquaporin-4 (anti-AQP-4) antibody-positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a rare autoimmune disorder resulting in severe, recurrent optic neuritis, transverse myelitis, brain stem syndrome, and other types of neurological involvement. Its median age of onset has been reported to be around 40 years. We report herein a case of very-late-onset NMOSD (76 years of age) and try to promote its awareness as a type of neurological deterioration in elder patients. A 76-year-old woman suffering from Parkinson disease was admitted to our hospital because of consciousness disturbance. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging revealed the presence of fluid-attenuated inversion recovery high-signal-intensity lesions in the right peri- and intralateral ventricle. Part of this lesion and the meninges showed gadolinium enhancement. Physical examination revealed the presence of a tumor in the right breast, which was later diagnosed as invasive ductal carcinoma. In addition, laboratory examinations led to the detection of anti-AQP-4 antibodies in her serum; consequently, the patient was diagnosed as having NMOSD. She received initial pulsed steroid therapy, followed by right mastectomy. Although the patient's consciousness improved significantly, she developed abrupt-onset bilateral leg weakness and multiple longitudinal spinal cord lesions. Additional steroid therapy ameliorated the patient's leg weakness and reduced the swelling of the spinal cord.We report a case of a 74-year-old Japanese woman who, after left thalamic infarction, developed right hemichorea and its neglect. While the tumor is small, there are focal features that suggest progression to malignancy, but do not fulfill the criteria for pilomatrix carcinoma. These focal atypical features include a focal infiltrative pattern at the periphery, with a variable cytological atypia and an increased mitotic rate, up to five mitotic events/high-power field. Irregular foci of central necrosis (comedonecrosis) were present in several lobules. Some of the features identified were similar to a subset of pilomatrixoma, known as "proliferating pilomatrixoma." However, our case did not have the diffuse changes or larger size that has been frequently reported in "proliferating pilomatrixoma." In conclusion, given the lack of focality of the changes, the lesion in our case is best described as a pilomatricoma with atypical features. We report the case of an immunocompetent 60-year-old woman with PCC due to C. neoformans in her right thumb. She reported an accidental injury caused by a rose thorn while she was gardening. Clinical examination showed the presence of an erythematous ulcerated nodule with elevated borders, suppuration, and central necrosis. Skin histology examination showed cutaneous and subcutaneous fibrinoid necrosis with bleeding, abscess, neutrophil-rich cellular infiltration, and the presence of PAS-, Grocott- and mucin-positive spores. The mycological culture showed milky and creamy colonies of C. neoformans after 3 days. As there was no previous history of pulmonary cryptococcosis, we diagnosed PPC. We treated the patient surgically with accurate debridement of nonvital tissues in the right thumb. In addition, we started itraconazole treatment 100 mg twice daily for 6 months, which led to rapid clinical improvement without relapse. PCC is a rare infection that can present with quite unspecific clinical pictures including acneiform lesions, purpura, vesicles, nodules, abscesses, ulcers, granulomas, pustules, draining sinuses, and cellulitis. Prolonged systemic antifungal therapy is necessary in order to get a healing result without relapse. Repeated cultures on aspirate of the bronchoalveolar lavage remained negative for viruses, bacteria, and parasites. Cardiac ultrasound was normal and high-dose corticosteroid therapy was initiated. Within a few days his clinical and radiological status improved significantly.

The data collection methods were observational checklist and a self-administered questionnaire. The collected data were entered into EpiData software version 4.2 and exported to SPSS software version 21 for analysis. Bivariate and multivariable logistic analyses wwere used to identify the associated factors. Statistical significance was declared using a 95% confidence interval and

Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors associated with the HSU.
In this study, 652 individuals (489 OOP payers and 163 fee waiver users) participated with overall response rate of 98%. The overall HSU among the participants was 44.3% (41.9 for OOP users and 51.5% for fee waiver users). The study revealed that educational status (AOR = 0.35; 95% CI 0.21, 0.59), family size (AOR = 0.60; 95% CI 0.37, 0.97) and income level (AOR = 2.09; 95% CI 1.12, 3.90, and AOR = 4.12; 95% CI 2.41, 7.53) were factors signifi mechanism may enhance the HSU.

This study collected data from 406 employees selected from four-star and five-star hotels in the southwest region of China. Online survey questionnaires and a purposive sampling technique were employed in this study. Structural equation modeling was utilized to evaluate the direct, mediating, and moderating effects.
The results showed that organizational commitment and job satisfaction fully mediated the association between PsyCap and turnover intention. Moreover, position played a moderating role on the effect of the aforementioned two job attitudes on turnover intention.

To analyze the related factors affecting the prognosis of pancreatic carcinoma with portal system invasion.
We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 118 patients with portal venous system invasion in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital between January 2011 and December 2018. Only patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer were included in this study. Borderline pancreatic cancer was defined according to NCCN (The National Comprehensive Cancer Network) guidelines. All patients underwent surgical treatment combined with vascular resection and reconstruction. The prognosis was evaluated according to the follow-up results, and the related risk factors for prognosis were analyzed. The survival curve was drawn by Kaplan-Meier method, and the survival rate was compared by log-rank test. Multivariate Cox regression was used to analyze the prognostic factors.
In our research, all of 126 patients were successfully completed the operations. Complications occurred in 29.7% of patients and perioperative dea prognosis of pancreatic carcinoma patients with portal system invasion is poor. The venous invasion depth is an independent risk factor for the prognosis of pancreatic carcinoma with portal system invasion, the deeper of venous invasion, the worse the prognosis, and poorly differentiated tumors have the worst prognosis. Other independent risk factors included N status and the preoperative CA19-9. Those may help with patients' selection for different treatment protocols.
Overweight and obesity have become a major health issue in the past 30 years. Several studies have already shown that obesity is significantly associated with a higher risk of developing breast cancer. However, few studies have assessed the prognostic value of the body mass index (BMI) in Asian populations. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively analyze the impact of BMI on the prognosis of breast cancer in overweight, under 160 cm tall patients from southern China.
We retrospectively analyzed data from 525 breast cancer patients diagnosed between 2003 to 2010 in a multi-center of China. After applying the exclusion criteria, 315 patients with complete data were retained. Their clinical and pathological characteristics were compared using the chi-square test. Survival analysis was performed with the Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using Cox regression to calculate hormone receptor status, HER-2 status, lymph node status, age, BMI and tumor size hazard ratio (HR), and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI).
There was a strong correlation between BMI and age in the baseline feature analysis (P=0.001). After grouping the patients according to the molecular type of cancer, we found that in Luminal A and B, the BMI was related to age (P=0.002, P=0.010). The disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) of patients with different BMI were not significantly different. This conclusion was also reached by pairwise comparison of subgroups. There was no significant difference in recurrence in patients from different BMI groups. We did not find a critical weight threshold associated with higher risk of recurrence. There were no statistically significant differences in treatment among the three BMI groups of overweight patients.

Ki67 is a recognized proliferative and predictive marker in invasive breast cancer. However, results of Ki67 evaluation are affected by the method employed for sample fixation or biopsy, as well as by intratumor heterogeneity. Here, we aimed to compare the Ki67 labeling index (Ki67LI) between core-needle biopsy specimens (CNBSs) and surgically resected specimens (SRSs) of invasive breast cancer, and verify whether the discordance in Ki67LI can be reduced by analyzing the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) obtained from pretreatment whole-body positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in combination with Ki67LI.

The impacts of each possible determinant on COVID-19 represented significantly spatial heterogeneity. The obvious influence of the majority of possible factors on COVID-19 was mainly detected during the after lockdown period with the lag 21 group. Although the COVID-19 spreading has been effectively controlled by tough measures taken by the Chinese government, the study findings remind us to address the air pollution issues persistently for protecting human health.This study develops a relational model of how environmental stressors, place attachment and outdoor leisure are related to urban green zones and, accordingly, Fujian Province in China is studied as our case problem. The research is participated by primarily middle-aged and elderly residents. In total, 871 valid questionnaires are retrieved. Structural equation modelling and path analysis are used to verify the model's fitness. However, China's WEI faces various barriers despite its favorable prospects. This paper aims to propose a path analysis approach for exploring the best methods and timing for overcoming diverse barriers in developing WEI systematically, especially in terms of revealing in which phases these barriers should take priority. A multidimensional barrier set categorized by institutional, economic and financial, social, technical, and market factors is identified via the integration of a literature review and empirical interviews. A path analysis approach based on the grey group DEMATEL-NK model is constructed, where the causalities and intensities among barriers are extracted to design a path simulation algorithm with heuristics. The optimal path for overcoming barriers in developing the WEI is generated through a simulation of the search and optimization process used to climb to the fitness landscape peak. The results show that the different barriers to completing the legal and regulatory framework should be prioritized to reach adequate financial incentives and coordination among stakeholders, and that an efficient talent cultivation system should be developed and industry-academic cooperation should be strengthened to increase technical and R&D capabilities in the short term. The optimal path presents a strategic instrument for managers to use to better develop sustainable and clean wind energy systems from the novel insights of prioritizing to overcome barriers.The relationship of intrauterine phthalate exposure with gestational metabolic syndrome (GMS) parameters is inconsistently reported. We performed a systematic review to evaluate the association between prenatal phthalate exposure and GMS parameters. A literature search was performed in three databases. According to the defined PECOS statement, eligible studies were identified. The method and result for each study was qualitatively summarized with great emphasis on study design and exposure assessment. Fourteen studies were included in the present systematic review. Two studies used one-spot serum sample for evaluation of phthalate exposure, while others used 1-4 urine samples. Concentrations of phthalate metabolites varied substantially, and the levels in serum were greatly lower than those in urine. These studies observed no interstudy or intrastudy consistency for association between phthalates and GMS in pregnant women cross-sectionally or longitudinally, regardless of phthalates species or GMS indicator. Most reported associations were not significantly different from null result. Besides, positive and negative relationships also existed. The current epidemiological data do not support the hypothesis that prenatal exposure to phthalates increases GMS risk.Crack cocaine users are simultaneously exposed to volatilized cocaine and to its main pyrolysis product, anhydroecgonine methyl ester (AEME). Although the neurotoxic effects of cocaine have been extensively studied, little is known about AEME or its combination. We investigated cell death processes using rat primary hippocampal cells exposed to cocaine (2 mM), AEME (1 mM) and their combination (C + A), after 1, 3, 6 and 12 h. Cocaine increased LC3 I after 6 h and LC3 II after 12 h, but reduced the percentage of cells with acid vesicles, suggesting failure in the autophagic flux, which activated the extrinsic apoptotic pathway after 12 h. AEME neurotoxicity did not involve the autophagic process; rather, it activated caspase-9 after 6 h and caspase-8 after 12 h leading to a high percentage of cells in early apoptosis. C + A progressively reduced the percentage of undamaged cells, starting after 3 h; it activated both apoptotic pathways after 6 h, and was more neurotoxic than cocaine and AEME alone. Also, C + A increased the phosphorylation of p62 after 12 h, but there was little difference in LC3 I or II, and a small percentage of cells with acid vesicles at all time points investigated. In summary, the present study provides new evidence for the neurotoxic mechanism and timing response of each substance alone and in combination, indicating that AEME is more than just a biological marker for crack cocaine consumption, as it may intensify and hasten cocaine neurotoxicity.

This study tests the hypothesis that dehydrochlorinated PVC at the tubing surface increases the oxidative potential of PEG autooxidation via radical propagation. The functional group composition at the surfaces of intact, autoclaved, or force-degraded medical grade PVC tubings was assessed by attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR). The content of double bonds in PVC was correlated with the extent of API degradation in the PEG-PVC system, with the repeated autoclaving cycle treatments yielding the most reactive tubing. After PEG exposure, new functional groups on the surface of PVC were observed, indicating the participation of PVC in the oxidation reactions. The PEG-PVC system was further probed by the fluorinated spin-trap reagent FDMPO, where trapped adducts were analyzed by 19F NMR, revealing the presence of three radical species. Trapped adducts were then analyzed by two-dimensional liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (2D-LC-MS/MS), which revealed the presence of free chlorine atoms and/or hypochlorous acid and a PEG alkoxy radical. Besides increasing oxidative stress, DNA damage response and repair of oxidative DNA damage are affected by trace elements. Hence, a balanced trace element homeostasis is of particular importance to safeguard neuronal genome integrity and prevent neuronal loss. This review summarises the current state of knowledge on the impact of deficient, as well as excessive iron, copper, manganese, zinc, and selenium levels on neuronal genome stability.
There is a dearth of literature that explicitly examines associations between housing and HIV testing among people who inject drugs (PWID). Thus, the present study investigated the links between housing status and HIV testing for PWID.
Respondent-driven sampling recruited 382 HIV-negative PWID, who completed structured interviews in San Francisco. Logistic regression determined whether housing statuses in the past 12 months ([1] owned/rented, [2] single-room occupancy hotels [SROs], [3] living with friends/family/partners, [4] shelters, [5] outdoors) were associated with getting HIV tested in the past 12 months while adjusting for sociodemographics and receptive sharing of injection paraphernalia in the past 12 months.

The functional group composition at the surfaces of intact, autoclaved, or force-degraded medical grade PVC tubings was assessed by attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR). The content of double bonds in PVC was correlated with the extent of API degradation in the PEG-PVC system, with the repeated autoclaving cycle treatments yielding the most reactive tubing. After PEG exposure, new functional groups on the surface of PVC were observed, indicating the participation of PVC in the oxidation reactions. The PEG-PVC system was further probed by the fluorinated spin-trap reagent FDMPO, where trapped adducts were analyzed by 19F NMR, revealing the presence of three radical species. Trapped adducts were then analyzed by two-dimensional liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (2D-LC-MS/MS), which revealed the presence of free chlorine atoms and/or hypochlorous acid and a PEG alkoxy radical. One prominent topic of investigation lies on the fact that mitochondria are not only production sites for bioenergetics and macromolecules, but also regulatory hubs that communicate and coordinate many vital physiological processes at the cellular and organismal level. The bi-directional communication and coordination between the co-evolved mitochondrial and nuclear genomes is especially interesting in terms of cellular regulation. Mitochondria are dynamic and adaptive, rendering their function sensitive to cellular context. Tissues with high energy demands, such as the brain, seem to be uniquely affected by age-dependent mitochondrial dysfunction, providing a foundation for the development of novel mitochondrial-based therapeutics and diagnostics.Oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) originate in localized germinal zones in the embryonic neural tube, then migrate and proliferate to populate the entire central nervous system, both white and gray matter. They divide and generate myelinating oligodendrocytes (OLs) throughout postnatal and adult life. OPCs express NG2 and platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha subunit (PDGFRα), two functionally important cell surface proteins, which are also widely used as markers for OPCs. The proliferation of OPCs, their terminal differentiation into OLs, survival of new OLs, and myelin synthesis are orchestrated by signals in the local microenvironment. We discuss advances in our mechanistic understanding of paracrine effects, including those mediated through PDGFRα and neuronal activity-dependent signals such as those mediated through AMPA receptors in OL survival and myelination. Finally, we review recent studies supporting the role of new OL production and "adaptive myelination" in specific behaviours and cognitive processes contributing to learning and long-term memory formation. Our article is not intended to be comprehensive but reflects the authors' past and present interests.

However, these results were based on some trials with pre-post design and randomized controlled trials of low quality. Additionally, it has been suggested that the dosage and duration of fiber supplementation and patients' characteristics potentially influence the effect of dietary fiber in reducing uremic toxins, but it would appear that no research has provided reliable evidence.

UCD with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) had a pro-inflammatory shift in their duodenal microbiota (reduction of Firmicutes, p = 0.03; increase of beta-Proteobacteria, p = 0.02) than those without IDA. TCD with persistent diarrhea showed a reduction of Actinobacteria (p = 0.03) and Rothia spp (p = 0.046) compared to TCD suffering from other type of persistent symptoms.
A distinctive duodenal microbiota profile is associated with IDA in UCD, and diarrhea-predominant persistent symptoms in TCD. There is little evidence in the literature which quantifies the accuracy of Treatment Planning Systems (TPSs) using large fields at extended SSD (eSSD). This paper introduces the approach taken at Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand to validate the use of the Monaco TPS for Total Body Irradiation (TBI) treatments.
A purpose-built device for allowing precise movements of block-like phantoms called a Phantom Mobility Device (PMD) was used for collecting measurements at eSSD. These measurements were used for determining the ability of the Monaco TPS (originally validated for SSDs between 80 and 110cm) to accurately model dose distributions for TBI treatments at Christchurch Hospital on either treatment machine one (T1) or two (T2) with SSD values of 341 and 432.6 and clinically useful field sizes of 120 and 170cm, respectively.
We found that within the limits of measurement uncertainty the PMD contributed no determinable scatter to the measurements and proved a reliable approach for eSSD dose measurements. Additionally, by applying depth and off-axis distance constraints of use for TPS information it is possible to use the existing Monaco CCC model at eSSD for block phantom geometries. Dose Difference (DD) analysis showed a clinically acceptable agreement between the CCC model and measured data over a range of depths and off-axis distances.
