  • [Comparison of ways to estimation glomerular purification charge throughout elderly adults].
    Experimental advances in the fabrication and characterization of few-layer materials stacked at a relative twist of small angle have recently shown the emergence of flat energy bands. As a consequence electron interactions become relevant, providing inroads into the physics of strongly correlated two-dimensional systems. Here, we demonstrate by combining large scale ab initio simulations with numerically exact strong correlation approaches that an effective one-dimensional system emerges upon stacking two twisted sheets of GeSe, in marked contrast to all moiré systems studied so far. This not only allows to study the necessarily collective nature of excitations in one dimension, but can also serve as a promising platform to scrutinize the crossover from two to one dimension in a controlled setup by varying the twist angle, which provides an intriguing benchmark with respect to theory. We thus establish twisted bilayer GeSe as an intriguing inroad into the strongly correlated physics of lowdimensional systems.The efficacy of nano-mediated drug delivery has been impeded by multiple biological barriers such as the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS), as well as vascular and interstitial barriers. Here, we describe a highly-sensitive CRISPR-Cas9-based reporter system that allows direct functional study of EV-mediated transfer of small non-coding RNA molecules at single-cell resolution. Using this CRISPR operated stoplight system for functional intercellular RNA exchange (CROSS-FIRE) we uncover various genes involved in EV subtype biogenesis that play a regulatory role in RNA transfer. Moreover we identify multiple genes involved in endocytosis and intracellular membrane trafficking that strongly regulate EV-mediated functional RNA delivery. Altogether, this approach allows the elucidation of regulatory mechanisms in EV-mediated RNA transfer at the level of EV biogenesis, endocytosis, intracellular trafficking, and RNA delivery.Skyrmions and antiskyrmions are distinct topological chiral spin textures that have been observed in various material systems depending on the symmetry of the crystal structure.   • Lack of Group Two Metabotropic Glutamate Receptor Signaling Exacerbates Blood pressure in Automatically Hypertensive Rodents.
    Medial plantar artery-based ***** have great value in healing full-thickness wounds of the foot and ankle. The goal of this study was to identify a common location for the origin of the medial plantar artery. Recognition of this anatomic marker will help improve incision placement and increase the success of preserving the artery when performing the medial plantar artery fasciocutaneous flap. This study examined the location of the origin of the medial plantar artery in 40 fresh cadavers. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/apr-246-prima-1met.html Results were obtained by dissection and macroscopic analysis to document the distance of the origin of the medial plantar artery from the intercollicular groove of the medial malleolus in centimeters. The mean distance was determined to be 3.2 ± 0.4 cm (range 2.7 to 4.5), with a low standard error of 0.0621. This suggests a high statistical probability that the common origin of the medial plantar artery is found 3.2 cm distal to the intercollicular groove of the medial malleolus in the general population. We developed an innovative computer-aided design method with Materialize Interactive Medical Image Control System software to measure hallux valgus angle (HVA), the intermetatarsal angle (IMA), and the distal metatarsal articular angle (DMAA) and assessed its concordance with traditional X-ray imaging methods. All measurements were carried out on 42 feet from 26 adult patients diagnosed with hallux valgus who were prospectively selected from July 2016 to April 2018. Standing X-ray radiograph and weightbearing computed tomography scans were conducted on all patients, and HVA, IMA, and DMAA were generated using both a traditional X-ray method and our innovative method. Two different observers assessed measurements for each patient. Finally, statistical analyses were conducted to assess the reliability of the measurements. Both X-ray imaging and our innovative method had strong interobserver and test-retest reliability. The ICC of X-ray imaging was 0.945, p .05); however, a difference was detected for DMAA (p less then .05). Bland-Altman analyses demonstrated a high degree of agreement between the 2 methods for HVA and IMA, but a significant difference for DMAA. From the results, we concluded that our innovative computer-aided design method is a feasible, reliable way to quantitatively assess HVA, IMA, and DMAA, and it is likely more accurate for measuring DMAA. This case report describes posterior tibial tendon (PTT) tendinopathy, valgus deformity with tenosynovitis, and osteopenia at the medial malleolus as the primary symptoms of a young patient with celiac disease (CD) without gastrointestinal symptoms. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/apr-246-prima-1met.html CD is an autoimmune condition that is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the small intestine triggered by ingestion of gluten in individuals with a particular genetic background. Without typical gastrointestinal symptoms, CD patients are often misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. The patient was diagnosed with CD by duodenal biopsy. He underwent a surgical procedure, including medial displacement calcaneal osteotomy, tenosynovectomy of the PTT and flexor digitorum longus (FDL), FDL transfer to the navicular for a pes planovalgus deformity, and drilling of the medial malleolus for a stress reaction. The mechanism of the PTT tear and associated heel valgus deformity was assumed to be related to the fact that his heel alignment on the affected side changed gradually from normal to valgus and pes planus owing to CD and mechanical stress, because his normal-side heel alignment was neutral before surgery and at final follow-up. His operated ankle was pain-free, with full range of motion, 1.5 years after surgery. The patient was able to restart running and exercise gradually. Foot and ankle specialists should consider the possibility of CD in patients presenting with a PTT tear without injury or trauma and osteopenia with no obvious reason. The tarsal tunnel is a fibrous osseous conduit for the tibial nerve and associated tendons. It is mechanically dynamic, and foot and ankle movements appear to move and change tunnel shape. However, the effect of foot and ankle movements is not clear. The aim of this study was to measure tarsal tunnel dimensions in anatomical position of the foot and ankle and quantify its changes at different positions in cadavers. A cross-sectional study with a total of 16 cryopreserved lower extremities from cadaveric specimens were used. The foot was cut using an anatomical saw at the level of the tarsal tunnel. Measurements of the cross-sectional area (CSA), transverse diameter (TD), longitudinal diameter (LD) were taken in anatomical position and during foot and ankle movements. All the tarsal tunnel measurements were significantly modified by ankle plantar flexion (p less then .05). The CSA increased by 68.97 mm2 (p less then .001), the TD increased by 1.40 mm (p less then .002) and the LD increased by 2.55 mm (p less then .007). The TD was also significantly modified by the inversion position of the ankle, showing an increase of 0.84 mm (p less then .004). The rest of the ankle positions did not produce significant changes in tarsal tunnel measurements. Foot and ankle plantar flexion position produce and increase in the CSA and the TD of the tarsal tunnel at its distal end in cadavers. This could suggest a reduction in tarsal tunnel pressure during plantar flexion. A series of radiographic and CT scan depicted multiple vertebral body destruction anteriorly, along with facet joint dislocation and mild retrolisthesis of C4-C5 segments. MR images of the cervical region was demonstrated pathologic contrast enhancement on C4 to T7 vertebrae, a total of fourteen contiguous segments. DISCUSSION Of all spinal tuberculosis, CTSTB accounts for only 5%. In addition to its rarity as a site for tuberculosis, the cervicothoracic junction has anatomical and clinical peculiarities, as a reversal of the mobile-lordotic cervical vertebrae to rigid-kyphotic thoracic vertebrae occurs at this location.

  • Overdue repeat of a cancer of Ewing's sarcoma class of cancers: record of an circumstance.
    BACKGROUND Sleep disturbances such as nonrestorative sleep and nighttime awakenings play a crucial role in fibromyalgia (FMS). Pain and sleep disturbances show a bidirectional relationship which affect outcomes in FMS. This study aims to compare sleep structures between patients with fibromyalgia and healthy controls. METHODS We evaluated subjective and objective sleep structures of 33 patients with fibromyalgia and 34 healthy controls using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and polysomnography. Student's T test, chi-square, discriminant analysis, the Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney U test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS Patients with FMS reported poorer sleep quality than controls (p = 0.003). Polysomnography data showed patients with FMS exhibited a greater number of awakenings (p = 0.01), more arousals (p = 0.00), higher arousal index (p = 0.00), greater apnea hypopnea index (p = 0.03), and less N1 sleep (p = 0.02) than healthy controls. The discriminant analysis revealed that number of arousals, arousal index, and N1 sleep were able to distinguish patients with FMS from healthy controls with 78.5% accuracy. Twelve of the 33 patients with FMS were diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). When we excluded patients with OSAS, a statistically significant difference was maintained. CONCLUSIONS Our findings may explain the deterioration of subjective sleep, symptoms as unrefreshing sleep, fatigue, and pain in patients with FMS. Despite similar clinical manifestations, patients with FMS should be evaluated for OSAS due to treatment differences. The role of sleep alterations in the clinical manifestation and severity of FMS suggest that effective treatments to improve sleep quality may lead to more effective management of FMS.Photorhabdus luminescens is an entomopathogenic rod-shaped bacterium infected with insect nematodes of the Heterorhabditidae family.     Overdue repeat of a cancer of Ewing's sarcoma class of cancers: record of an circumstance. BACKGROUND Sleep disturbances such as nonrestorative sleep and nighttime awakenings play a crucial role in fibromyalgia (FMS). Pain and sleep disturbances show a bidirectional relationship which affect outcomes in FMS. This study aims to compare sleep structures between patients with fibromyalgia and healthy controls. METHODS We evaluated subjective and objective sleep structures of 33 patients with fibromyalgia and 34 healthy controls using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and polysomnography. Student's T test, chi-square, discriminant analysis, the Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney U test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS Patients with FMS reported poorer sleep quality than controls (p = 0.003). Polysomnography data showed patients with FMS exhibited a greater number of awakenings (p = 0.01), more arousals (p = 0.00), higher arousal index (p = 0.00), greater apnea hypopnea index (p = 0.03), and less N1 sleep (p = 0.02) than healthy controls. The discriminant analysis revealed that number of arousals, arousal index, and N1 sleep were able to distinguish patients with FMS from healthy controls with 78.5% accuracy. Twelve of the 33 patients with FMS were diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). When we excluded patients with OSAS, a statistically significant difference was maintained. CONCLUSIONS Our findings may explain the deterioration of subjective sleep, symptoms as unrefreshing sleep, fatigue, and pain in patients with FMS. Despite similar clinical manifestations, patients with FMS should be evaluated for OSAS due to treatment differences. METHODS We evaluated correlates of tumor tissue expression of CYP27A1, CYP7B1, LXR-β, and ERβ and the association between circulating prediagnostic 27HC concentrations and breast cancer risk by marker expression in a nested case-control study within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)-Heidelberg cohort including 287 breast cancer cases with tumor tissue available. COADS will enroll 1800 dyads who will be randomized into three groups (n = 600/group) the 'Screening Only' group will receive ADRD screening at baseline and disclosure of the screening results, with positive-screen participants receiving a list of local resources for diaepressive and anxiety symptoms, and better preparation for caregiving with higher self-efficacy at 24 months. Results from this study will directly inform the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease, the USPSTF and other organizations regarding ADRD screening and early detection policies. Firstly, this work was conducted to determine chemical composition, antioxydant activity, then antibacterial, antifungal, antimycobacterial properties of Rosmarinus officinalis EO. Secondly, EOs combined antimicrobial effect with carvacrol was assessed. Chemical EO analysis was performed using Gas chromatography/mass spectrometer. 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl test was used to evaluate in vitro antioxidant rosemary oil effect. The antimicrobial activity against seven bacteria, two fungi, and two mycobacterial strains was screened using the broth microdilution method. Thereafter, the checkerboard essay was used to evaluate the antibacterial effect of this EO and Carvacrol. Chemical EO analysis revealed 1,8-cineole (33.88%), camphor (14.66%), and α-pinene (12.76%) as main constituents. The obtained IC50 value (2.77 mg/mL) showed rosemary EO's radical scavenging power. Moreover, all tested microorganisms showed an important sensitivity to this EO (****values 0.007%-1% (v/v)). Furthermore, results highlighted synergistic and partial synergistic interaction for tested products. The studied EO has both antimicrobial and antioxidant potentials. Combined application showed a remarkable synergistic antibacterial potentiation that can be used as an alternative in pharmaceutical and food processing sectors. The aim of this study is to investigate the viability of human pulp fibroblast after the administration of Ca(OH)2, propolis, and its combination. Human pulp fibroblast culture derived from premolar teeth of 16-year-old patients, were divided into seven groups Group 1 (10 μg Ca(OH)2); Group 2 (10 μg propolis); Group 3 (15 μg propolis); Group 4 (20 μg propolis); Group 5 (Ca(OH)2-propolis 11); Group 6 (Ca(OH)2-propolis 11.5); and Group 7 (calcium hydroxide-propolis 12). They were placed in a 96 wells plate and put into incubator for 24 h. Firstly, this work was conducted to determine chemical composition, antioxydant activity, then antibacterial, antifungal, antimycobacterial properties of Rosmarinus officinalis EO. Secondly, EOs combined antimicrobial effect with carvacrol was assessed. Chemical EO analysis was performed using Gas chromatography/mass spectrometer. 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl test was used to evaluate in vitro antioxidant rosemary oil effect. The antimicrobial activity against seven bacteria, two fungi, and two mycobacterial strains was screened using the broth microdilution method. Thereafter, the checkerboard essay was used to evaluate the antibacterial effect of this EO and Carvacrol. Chemical EO analysis revealed 1,8-cineole (33.88%), camphor (14.66%), and α-pinene (12.76%) as main constituents. The obtained IC50 value (2.77 mg/mL) showed rosemary EO's radical scavenging power. Moreover, all tested microorganisms showed an important sensitivity to this EO (MIC values 0.007%-1% (v/v)). Furthermore, results highlighted synergistic and partial synergistic interaction for tested products. The studied EO has both antimicrobial and antioxidant potentials. Combined application showed a remarkable synergistic antibacterial potentiation that can be used as an alternative in pharmaceutical and food processing sectors. Human pulp fibroblast culture derived from premolar teeth of 16-year-old patients, were divided into seven groups Group 1 (10 μg Ca(OH)2); Group 2 (10 μg propolis); Group 3 (15 μg propolis); Group 4 (20 μg propolis); Group 5 (Ca(OH)2-propolis 11); Group 6 (Ca(OH)2-propolis 11.5); and Group 7 (calcium hydroxide-propolis 12). They were placed in a 96 wells plate and put into incubator for 24 h. Calcium and phosphate levels were categorized as low ( less then  8.5 mg/dL,  less then  4.0 mg/dL), medium (≥ 8.5- less then  9.5 mg/dL, ≥ 4.0- less then  7.0 mg/dL), and high (≥ 9.5 mg/dL, ≥ 7.0 mg/dL), respectively. iPTH levels were grouped into  less then  300 or ≥ 300 pg/mL. Adjusted incidence rate ratios (aIRRs) were analyzed by weighted Poisson regression. RESULTS For calcium, patients with higher iPTH (≥ 300 pg/mL) had significantly higher all-cause mortality rates in the high than in the medium category (aIRR 1.99, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.16-3.42), and tended to have a higher mortality rate in the low category (aIRR 2.04, 95% CI 0.94-4.42). Patients with lower iPTH ( less then  300 pg/mL) had higher mortality rates in the high than in the medium category (aIRR 1.65, 95% CI 1.39-1.96). Peer-reviewed, English language articles which evaluated factors associated with medication adherence among pre-dialysis CKD patients were included. Meta-analysis was performed to assess the pooled medication adherence rates across studies. Factors identified were categorised using the World Health Organization's five dimensions of medication adherence (condition, patient, therapy, health-system, and socio-economic domains). RESULTS Of the 3727 articles reviewed, 18 articles were included. The pooled adherence rate across studies was 67.4% (95% CI 61.4-73.3%). The most studied medication class was anti-hypertensives (55.6%). A total of 19 factors and 95 sub-factors related to medication adherence were identified. Among condition-related factors, advanced CKD was associated with poorer medication adherence. Patient-related factors that were associated with lower medication adherence included misconceptions about medication and lack of perceived self-efficacy in medication use. Therapy-related factors which were associated with poorer medication adherence included polypharmacy while health system-based factors included loss of confidence in the physician. Socioeconomic factors such as poor social support and lower education levels were associated with poorer medication adherence. CONCLUSION Factors associated with poor medication adherence among pre-dialysis CKD patients were highlighted in this review. Treatment statuses of surgical resection, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and triple therapy (resection, chemotherapy and radiation) were summarized, and analyzed by comparison and regression analyses over US Census regions. RESULTS A total cohort size of 40,232 Caucasian GBM patients were included, with 3,111 (8%) identifying as Hispanic. The odds of treatment by chemotherapy (OR 0.78, P  less then  0.01), radiation therapy (OR 0.82, P  less then  0.01) and triple therapy (OR 0.84, P  less then  0.01) were all significantly lower in the Hispanic group versus non-Hispanic group.

  • Finally, we analyze the Ising model on three-dimensional hyperbolic space using Monte Carlo and high-temperature series expansion. In contrast to recent field theory calculations, which predict a non-mean-field fixed point for the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase-transition of the Ising model on three-dimensional hyperbolic space, our computations reveal a mean-field behavior.Strongly correlated electron systems are generally described by tight-binding lattice Hamiltonians with strong local (onsite) interactions, the most popular being the Hubbard model. Although the half-filled Hubbard model can be simulated by Monte Carlo (**), physically more interesting cases beyond half-filling are plagued by the sign problem. One therefore should resort to other methods. It was demonstrated recently that a systematic truncation of the set of Dyson-Schwinger equations for correlators of the Hubbard, supplemented by a "covariant" calculation of correlators leads to a convergent series of approximants. The covariance preserves all the Ward identities among correlators describing various condensed matter probes. While first-order (classical), second-order (Hartree-Fock or Gaussian), and third-order (Cubic) covariant approximation were worked out, the fourth-order (quartic) seems too complicated to be effectively calculable in fermionic systems. It turns out that the complexity of the quartic calculation in local interaction models,is manageable computationally. The quartic (Bethe-Salpeter-type) approximation is especially important in 1D and 2D models in which the symmetry-broken state does not exists (the Mermin-Wagner theorem), although strong fluctuations dominate the physics at strong coupling. Unlike the lower-order approximations, it respects the Mermin-Wagner theorem. The scheme is tested and exemplified on the single-band 1D and 2D Hubbard model.We present a semianalytical theory for the acoustic fields and particle-trapping forces in a viscous fluid inside a capillary tube with arbitrary cross section and ultrasound actuation at the walls. We find that the acoustic fields vary axially on a length scale proportional to the square root of the quality factor of the two-dimensional (2D) cross-section resonance mode. This axial variation is determined analytically based on the numerical solution to the eigenvalue problem in the 2D cross section. The system retrieves data from several sources, quickly analyzes them using artificial intelligence techniques, and returns information to the mobile phone about the activity that is being processed. The concept extends the understanding of today's virtual reality by allowing the user to move and perform simple gestures in a specially designed room. Moreover, we propose multiplayer mode in virtual reality, where players are in different places. The proposed architecture of the system has been tested on simple applications, and the results show high potential for implementations in various apps by achieving almost 90% efficiency in changing player direction in real time and only 7.5% of collision cases. In Case 3, aCGH analysis revealed a 5.5M chromosomal deletion (9q21.13q21.32 (78, 645, 382_84, 115, 555) x1). In all three cases, ultrasound examination showed no dysmorphisms and intrauterine growth restrictions (IUGRs) in the fetus. All three pregnancies resulted in phenotypically normal babies. CONCLUSION Chromosomal abnormalities may be associated with favorable outcomes. Among 20 colonies of cultured amniocytes, all four cells in one colony had a karyotype of 46,XY,del(5)(p13) with a distal deletion of 5p13→pter, while the rest 19 colonies had a karyotype of 46,XY. Repeat amniocentesis was performed at 21 weeks of gestation. Conventional cytogenetic analysis revealed a karyotype of 46,XY in all 20 colonies. Simultaneous array comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) using the DNA extracted from the uncultured amniocytes revealed no genomic imbalance. Prenatal ultrasound findings were unremarkable. At 38 weeks of gestation, a 3621-g male baby was delivered with no phenotypic abnormality. The cord blood had a karyotype of 46,XY. Postnatal urinary cells analysis by interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using a 5p terminal FISH probe detected no abnormal cell in the urine. A preferred (antiparallel) arrangement between adjacent [Cho]+ cations is due to the effective H-bond between the hydroxyl oxygen and the methyl hydrogen sites that promotes the like-charge cluster formation. Adding water decreases the occurrence probability of the [Cho]+···[Gly]-···[Cho]+ bridge structure in the aqueous solutions due to the formation of the [Gly]-···HOH···[Gly]- structure via H-bonding. Observed density trend versus xw is interpreted based on an interstice model and investigating the water cluster size distribution. Finally, the effect of xw on the infrared (IR) vibrational spectra were studied and blue and red shifts were observed for the stretching and bending vibrational modes of the hydroxyl group of [Cho]+, respectively. We examined the CHO cell cytotoxicity of defined DBP mixtures based on the concentrations of 43 regulated and unregulated DBPs measured in eight drinking and potable reuse waters. The hypothesis for additivity was supported using 3 experimental approaches. First, we demonstrated that calculated additive toxicity (CAT) and bioassay-based calculated additive toxicity (BCAT) of the DBP mixtures agree within 12% on a median basis. We also found an additive toxicity response (CAT ≈ BCAT) among the regulated and unregulated DBP classes. These results support the validity of using the sum of cytotoxic potency-weighted DBP concentrations as an estimate of the CHO cell cytotoxicity associated with known DBPs in real disinfected waters.We present a new molecular simulation code, Brick-CFCMC, for performing Monte Carlo simulations using state-of-the-art simulation techniques. The Continuous Fractional Component (CFC) method is implemented for simulations in the NVT/NPT ensembles, the Gibbs Ensemble, the Grand-Canonical Ensemble, and the Reaction Ensemble. Molecule transfers are facilitated by the use of fractional molecules which significantly improve the efficiency of the simulations. With the CFC method, one can obtain phase equilibria and properties such as chemical potentials and partial molar enthalpies/volumes directly from a single simulation. It is possible to combine trial moves from different ensembles. This enables simulations of phase equilibria in a system where also a chemical reaction takes place. We demonstrate the applicability of our software by investigating the esterification of methanol with acetic acid in a two-phase system.Many useful principles of self-assembly have been elucidated through studies of systems where multiple components combine to create a single structure. By varying ligand symmetry, denticity, and orientation, we explore how five distinct polyhedra-a tetrahedron, an octahedron, a cube, a cuboctahedron, and a triangular prism-assemble in concert around CoII template ions. The effect of GBR was firstly investigated in vascular cognitive impaired mice and glutamate-induced toxicity in HT22 cells with respect to standard pure GABA. Feeding mice with GBR for 5 weeks showed the neuroprotection. In this study, the modified bilateral common carotid artery occlusion mice model was mild but the significant difference in cognitive impairment was still shown. Like pure GABA, GBR decreased cognitive deficits in memory behavioral tests and significantly attenuated hippocampal neuronal cell death at P less then 0.001. Similar to GABA (0.125 µM), 100 µg/ml of GBR increased HT22 cell viability after glutamate toxicity. GBR affected less apoptotic cell death and less blocking by GABAA antangonist, bicuculline than GABA. Taken together, the underlying mechanism of GBR protection may mediate though GABAA receptor and its phenolic contents.Achieving good charge separation while maintaining energetic electronic states in heterostructures is a challenge in designing efficient photocatalyst materials. Using first-principles calculations, we propose a Z-scheme Sn-m-Sp (n-semiconductor-metal-p-semiconductor) heterojunction as a viable avenue for achieving broad-spectrum sunlight absorption and, importantly, energy-dependent charge separation. As a proof-of-concept investigation, we investigated two ternary heterostructures, CdS-Au-PdO and SnO2-W-Ag2O, in which the electronic Fermi levels line up by virtue of the presence of an intermediate metal layer. A cascade of work functions in the relative order Wn less then Wm less then Wp drives electrons flowing from Sn to m and from m to Sp. The inner electric fields established at the Sn-m and m-Sp Schottky junctions selectively guide low-energy photoexcited electrons from Sn (CdS/SnO2) and low-energy holes from Sp (PdO/Ag2O) to the interposing Au or W metal, respectively. Importantly, relatively low Schottky barriers enforce charge separation by constraining high-energy photogenerated charges to the individual semiconductor layers.
