The research was a mixed methods exploratory case study. Each case was a cancer treatment in a person with memory loss, a common symptom of dementia. Observations were conducted in 30 clinic sessions at one cancer centre between September 2014 and February 2015. Thirty-three encounters between people with a memory problem and a staff member were observed and ten consultations recorded. Interviews were conducted with five staff members and six people receiving cancer treatment, five accompanied by their carer. Analysis, informed by hermeneutic phenomenology, enabled the treatment pathway to be mapped and modelled to reveal sites for intervention.
Five potential sites of intervention were identified in the treatment pathway. Five actions at the sites of intervention that may improve patient experience and outcomes include, raising awareness of common problems for people with cognitive impairment receiving cancer treatment, encouraging disclosure of memory problems, staff training to identify memory problems and to know what to do, offering tools and techniques to aid self-management of memory problems, and addressing carer support needs.

To analyze diurnal cortisol (COR) rhythms among children with epileptic spasms (ESs) and explore the relationship between endocrine factors, circadian rhythm, and ES.
This study assessed the COR and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) levels at 0800 and 1600, and COR values at 0000 among children with ESs. Additionally, the etiology of ESs was analyzed. All cases were divided into the following three etiology groups genetic group, structural etiology group, and unknown etiology group. ACTH was administered to 24 patients, who were divided into the positive electroclinical outcome group and negative electroclinical outcome group. All data were analyzed using a two-way repeated measures analysis of variance.
All children showed a COR rhythm. Controls displayed a significantly different COR rhythm from that in the ES group (F
=24.100, p = 0.000). It was observed that the ACTH levels at 0800 (t = -3.720) and 1600 (t=-3.794) and COR levels at 1600 (t = -2.264) and 0000 (t = -4.607) in the ES group were significantly higher than those in the control group (p < 0.05); COR levels at 0800 were significantly lower among individuals in the structural etiology group (F = 3.828, p < 0.05). COR levels at 0800 in the negative electroclinical outcome group (668.30 ± 227.42) nmol/L were higher than those in the positive electroclinical outcome group (462.25 ± 249.71) nmol/L.

Most seizures during pregnancy occur in women who already have epilepsy. Rarely, some women may have their first seizure during pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical features and pregnancy outcomes in women with new-onset epilepsy during pregnancy.
112 pregnant women with epilepsy were prospectively evaluated at the Education - Therapeutic Clinic of the Azerbaijan Medical University, in the neurological and maternity departments of the Clinical Medical Center in Baku over a six-year period. Women were regularly followed by a neurologist and obstetrician till the end of pregnancy. To determine the recurrence of seizures during the pregnancy and after delivery, the women were followed up at least once per three months for a one year period after delivery. Delivery and perinatal outcomes were compared with those of 277 healthy women in the control group (without epilepsy and without registering chronic diseases).
Of the 112 pregnant women with epilepsy, 12 (10.7%) had their fs were not increased compared to women with epilepsy before pregnancy. Scientometric methods and knowledge visualization using the coword analysis techniques conducted in three steps based on the data related to the field of hospital accreditation from 1975 to 2018 obtained from the MEDLINE database. Bibliographic data for titles, abstracts and keywords articles were saved in CSV format and MEDLINE templates by applying filters. Data extracted were exported into an Excel spreadsheet and were preprocessed. The authors applied the text mining and visualization using VOSviewer software.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has been widely performed in the treatment of colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM) patients, but the optimal timing of surgery after NAC is unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the optimal timing of surgery.
From December 2010 to May 2018, 101 consecutive patients who received NAC followed by liver resection for CRLM were included in this study. The main outcome parameters were pathological response, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS). The effect of time to surgery (TTS) on patient outcomes, defined as a high TTS and a low TTS according to an X-tile analysis, was investigated. To adjust for potential selection bias, propensity score matching at 12 was performed with two high TTS patients matched to one low TTS patient. Kaplan-Meier curves, logistic regression analyses, and Cox regression models were used for the data analysis.
The optimal cut-off value for the TTS was 5weeks by X-tile analysis. The patients in this study were dividay be disadvantageous for a favorable pathological response and long-term PFS. These results should be validated prospectively in a randomized trial.

The reimbursement for each HFH was calculated for each diagnosis-related group code. Between 2013 and 2015, 983 patients (mean age 71years, male 76%, mean left ventricular ejection fraction 35%, and New York Heart Association Class I/II 75.6%) were enrolled. Automated insulin delivery with predictive low glucose suspend (PLGS) feature has the potential to reduce risk of hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). We aim to systematically synthesize the evidence on the efficacy and safety of PLGS in children and adolescents with T1DM.
We performed a systematic search through Ovid/MEDLINE, Ovid/Embase, and other search engines. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effect of sensor augmented pump (SAP) with PLGS feature compared to SAP or insulin pump therapy without SAP in decreasing hypoglycemia in children and adolescents aged 2 to 18 years with T1DM, with at least 2 weeks of follow-up. Two reviewers independently selected studies, extracted data, and evaluated the risk of bias (ROB).
Five RCTs with total sample size of 493 children aged 6 to 18 years met the inclusion criteria. The overall ROB of included studies was low. There is high quality evidence that PLGS is superior to SAP in decreasing time spent in hypoglycemia (sensor glucose [SG] <3.9 mmol/L [<70 mg/dL]/24 h) and nocturnal hypoglycemia (SG <3.9 mmol [<70 mg/dL]/L/night) with an absolute mean difference of 17.4 min/d (95% CI -19.2, -15.5) and 26.3 min/night (95% CI -35.5, -16.7), respectively, without increasing percentage of time spent in hyperglycemia or episodes of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). There was insufficient evidence for the impact of PLGS on health related quality of life (HRQL).
PLGS is superior to SAP in decreasing daytime and nocturnal hypoglycemia without increasing the risk of DKA or hyperglycemia. Future studies should address the impact of PLGS on children younger than 6-years-old and HRQL.

Changes in cholesterol absorption and cholesterol synthesis may promote dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
To assess cholesterol synthesis and absorption in lean individuals, obese individuals, and individuals with T2DM.
We measured lathosterol and lanosterol (markers of cholesterol synthesis) as well as campesterol and β-sitosterol (markers of cholesterol absorption) in the serum of 15 to 26 years old individuals with T2DM (n = 95), as well as their lean (n = 98) and obese (n = 92) controls.
Individuals with T2DM showed a 51% increase in lathosterol and a 65% increase in lanosterol compared to lean controls. Similarly, obese individuals showed a 31% increase in lathosterol compared to lean controls. Lathosterol and lanosterol were positively correlated with body mass index, fasting insulin and glucose, serum triglycerides, and C-reactive protein, and negatively correlated with HDL-cholesterol. In contrast, campesterol and β-sitosterol were not altered in individuals with T2DM. Moreover, campesterol and β-sitosterol were negatively correlated with body mass index, fasting insulin, and C-reactive protein and were positively correlated with HDL-cholesterol.

Lethal removal of invasive species, such as wild pigs (Sus scrofa), is often the most efficient approach for reducing their negative impacts. Wild pigs are one of the most widespread and destructive invasive mammals in the USA. Lethal management techniques are a key approach for wild pigs and can alter wild pig spatial behavior, but it is unclear how wild pigs respond to the most common removal technique, trapping. We investigated the spatial behavior of wild pigs following intensive removal of conspecifics via trapping at three sites within the Savannah River Site, SC, USA. We evaluated changes in wild pig densities, estimated temporal shifts in home-range properties, and evaluated fine-scale movement responses of wild pigs to removal.
We observed a significant reduction in the density of wild pigs in one site following removal via trapping while a qualitative reduction was observed in another site. We found little evidence of shifts in pig home-ranging behavior following removal. However, we did observe a nuanced response in movement behavior of wild pigs to the removal at the scale of the GPS locations (4 h), including increased movement speed and reduced selection for vegetation rich areas.
Our work provides a better understanding of the impact of removal via trapping on wild pig movement and its implications for management. Automated insulin delivery with predictive low glucose suspend (PLGS) feature has the potential to reduce risk of hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). We aim to systematically synthesize the evidence on the efficacy and safety of PLGS in children and adolescents with T1DM. We performed a systematic search through Ovid/MEDLINE, Ovid/Embase, and other search engines. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effect of sensor augmented pump (SAP) with PLGS feature compared to SAP or insulin pump therapy without SAP in decreasing hypoglycemia in children and adolescents aged 2 to 18 years with T1DM, with at least 2 weeks of follow-up. Two reviewers independently selected studies, extracted data, and evaluated the risk of bias (ROB). Five RCTs with total sample size of 493 children aged 6 to 18 years met the inclusion criteria. The overall ROB of included studies was low. There is high quality evidence that PLGS is superior to SAP in decreasing time spent in hypoglycemia (sensor glucose [SG] <3.9 mmol/L [<70 mg/dL]/24 h) and nocturnal hypoglycemia (SG <3.9 mmol [<70 mg/dL]/L/night) with an absolute mean difference of 17.4 min/d (95% CI -19.2, -15.5) and 26.3 min/night (95% CI -35.5, -16.7), respectively, without increasing percentage of time spent in hyperglycemia or episodes of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). There was insufficient evidence for the impact of PLGS on health related quality of life (HRQL). PLGS is superior to SAP in decreasing daytime and nocturnal hypoglycemia without increasing the risk of DKA or hyperglycemia. We measured lathosterol and lanosterol (markers of cholesterol synthesis) as well as campesterol and β-sitosterol (markers of cholesterol absorption) in the serum of 15 to 26 years old individuals with T2DM (n = 95), as well as their lean (n = 98) and obese (n = 92) controls. Individuals with T2DM showed a 51% increase in lathosterol and a 65% increase in lanosterol compared to lean controls. PTEN, BRCA1 and TP53 have been recognized as the most frequently deleted and/or mutated genes in various types of human cancer. Recently, tumor suppressor genes have also been shown to be involved in the development of neurodegenerative diseases. The present review summarizes the recent findings of the functions of these tumor suppressors that are associated with genomic stability, and are involved in carcinogenic and neurodegenerative cell signaling. A summary is presented regarding the interactions of these tumor suppressors with their partners which results in transduction of downstream signals. The analysis of correlated responses obtained one at a time in survey data is not as informative or as useful as modeling them simultaneously. Simultaneous modeling allows for the opportunity to evaluate the system in a more pragmatic form rather than to allow for responses that assumedly originated in isolation.
This research uses the Mozambique National Survey data to demonstrate the benefits of simultaneous modeling on blood test results, knowledge of HIV/AIDS, and awareness of an HIV/AIDS campaign. This simultaneous modeling also addresses the correlation inherent due to the hierarchical structure in the data collection.

In this study, we investigate two versions of the ECog test the study partner reported version (ECogSP), and the patient reported version (ECogPT). We compare these, using statistical analysis and machine learning techniques, to create classification models to demonstrate the progression in ECog scores over time by using the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative longitudinal data repository (ADNI); participants are classed with having normal cognition, mild cognitive impairment, or Alzheimer's disease. We found that participants who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at baseline, or during a subsequent visit, tend to self-report consistent ECogPT scores over time indicating no change in cognitive ability. However, study partners tend to report higher and increasing ECogSP scores on behalf of participants in the same diagnosis category; this would indicate a degradation in the participant's cognitive ability over time, consistent with the progress of Alzheimer's disease.Background Human coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is causing a pandemic with significant morbidity and mortality. As no effective novel drugs are available currently, drug repurposing is an alternative intervention strategy. Here we present an in silico drug repurposing study that implements successful concepts of computer-aided drug design (CADD) technology for repurposing known drugs to interfere with viral cellular entry via the spike glycoprotein (SARS-CoV-2-S), which mediates host cell entry via the hACE2 receptor. Methods A total of 4015 known and approved small molecules were screened for interaction with SARS-CoV-2-S through docking studies and 15 lead molecules were shortlisted. Additionally, streptomycin, ciprofloxacin, and glycyrrhizic acid (GA) were selected based on their reported anti-viral activity, safety, availability and affordability. The 18 molecules were subjected to molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. Results The MD simulation results indicate that GA of plant origin may be repurposed for SARS-CoV-2 intervention, pending further studies. Conclusions Repurposing is a beneficial strategy for treating COVID-19 with existing drugs. It is aimed at using docking studies to screen molecules for clinical application and investigating their efficacy in inhibiting SARS-CoV-2-S. SARS-CoV-2-S is a key pathogenic protein that mediates pathogen-host interaction. Hence, the molecules screened for inhibitory properties against SARS-CoV-2-S can be clinically used to treat COVID-19 since the safety profile is already known.

Diagnosis and management of ocular tuberculosis (OTB) poses a significant challenge. HAART-associated improvement in immunity of the individual has changed the pattern of incidence of these hitherto reported known lesions leading to a marked reduction in the occurrence of ocular OI. Newer ocular lesions and newer ocular manifestations of known agents have been noted. Immune recovery uveitis (IRU), the new menace, which occurs as part of immune recovery inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) in the eye, can present with significant ocular inflammation and can pose a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. Balancing the treatment of inflammation with the risk of reactivation of OI is a task by itself. Ocular involvement in the HAART era can be due to the adverse effects of some systemic drugs used in the management of HIV/AIDS. Drug-associated retinal toxicity and other ocular side effects are being increasingly reported. HAART-associated improvement in immunity of the individual has changed the pattern of incidence of these hitherto reported known lesions leading to a marked reduction in the occurrence of ocular OI. Newer ocular lesions and newer ocular manifestations of known agents have been noted. Immune recovery uveitis (IRU), the new menace, which occurs as part of immune recovery inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) in the eye, can present with significant ocular inflammation and can pose a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. Balancing the treatment of inflammation with the risk of reactivation of OI is a task by itself. Ocular involvement in the HAART era can be due to the adverse effects of some systemic drugs used in the management of HIV/AIDS. Drug-associated retinal toxicity and other ocular side effects are being increasingly reported. In this review, we discuss the ocular manifestations in HIV patients and its varied presentations following the introduction of HAART, drug-associated lesions, and the current treatment guidelines.Post-fever retinitis (PFR) is an infectious or para-infectious uveitic entity caused by bacterial or viral agents and seen mainly in tropical countries. Systemic symptoms such as joint pain, skin rash are common during the febrile stage. On the basis of only clinical presentation, it is difficult to pin-point the exact etiology for PFR. Serological investigations, polymerase chain reaction, and knowledge of concurrent epidemics in the community may help to identify the etiological organism. Bacterial causes of PFR such as rickettsia and typhoid are treated with systemic antibiotics, with or without systemic steroid therapy, whereas PFR of viral causes such as chikungunya, dengue, West Nile virus, and Zika virus have no specific treatment and are managed with steroids. Nevertheless, many authors have advocated mere observation and the uveitis resolved with its natural course of the disease. Common etiologies of VAU include herpes simplex, varicella-zoster, cytomegalovirus, and rubella virus. Clinical presentations can vary from granulomatous AU with corneal involvement, Posner-Schlossman syndrome, Fuchs uveitis syndrome, and endothelitis. Tremor is an important phenotypic feature of dystonia. Using the new concept (Col-Cap) of classification we examined the frequency of tremor in cervical dystonia (CD) patients, their main subtypes and muscles injected.
In this large study conducted at multiple movement disorder centres in Europe and India, between January and June 2019, we examined 293 patients with idiopathic CD who were all treated with botulinum toxin (BTX).
The dystonic head tremor (DHT+) was present in 57.6 % of CD patients and they had a significantly longer duration of symptoms than patients without head tremor (DHT-). In DHT+ patients torticaput was the most common subtype and the majority (63.3%) had one or two subtypes only. We believe that sharing how these objective tools can be used to diagnose a functional movement disorder, as well as providing more published evidence to support the functional origin of essential palatal myoclonus, will help to diagnose this condition in the future.

Anti-LGI-1 antibodies interfere with normal synaptic activity and maturation in the central nervous system. We suggest that an immune-mediated mechanism might be considered in atypical parkinsonisms with unusual features such as rapidly progressive dementia.

In this review, we summarize the current state of knowledge about the involvement of oxidative stress mechanisms and role of HIV-induced ROS in the development of HAND. We also examine the academic literature regarding crucial HIV-1 pathogenicity factors implicated in neurotoxicity and inflammation in order to identify molecular pathways that could serve as potential therapeutic targets for treatment of this disease. KEY MESSAGES Neuroinflammation and excitotoxicity mechanisms are crucial in the pathogenesis of HAND. CNS infiltration by HIV-1 and immune cells through the blood brain barrier is a key process involved in the pathogenicity of HAND. Factors including calcium dysregulation and autophagy are the main challenges involved in HAND.Appropriate visual function is paramount to ensuring adequate driving performance and road safety. Here, we examined the influence of sudden artificially-impaired binocular vision on driving performance using a car simulator. Twenty-four young drivers (mean age 22.42 ± 3.19 years) drove under three different visual conditions (natural driving, monocular blur, and monocular occlusion) through three different traffic environments with low, medium, and high levels of complexity (highway, rural, and city, respectively). We assessed their driving performance, perceived level of task complexity, and subjectively-experienced road safety. Furthermore, as a manipulation check, we also evaluated the drivers' cardiac vagal responses, as a well-known index of task complexity. The sudden deterioration of binocular vision caused unsafe driving behaviours (distance out of the road and maximum breaking intensity) in the most complex traffic environments. Specific self-regulatory strategies (i.e. increased cardiac vagal responses) and subjective responses corroborated these results. Practitioner summary This study provides evidence that the sudden deterioration of binocular vision has a detrimental effect on simulated driving performance. Our analysis of cardiovascular functioning shows that drivers adopt self-regulatory strategies when their binocular vision functioning is compromised. Acquisitions were performed 30 minutes (time 1) and 3 hours (time 2) after administration of 10 mCi (370 MBq) FDG and 6 hours of fasting. Two observers independently and qualitatively evaluated lesions. A weighted Cohen kappa was used to calculate interrater reliability and accuracy. Quantitatively, maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) was measured in the lesions, contralateral white matter (CWM), contralateral caudate nucleus head, and ipsilateral cerebellar cortex (CC). Although most commonly occurring in liver, lungs, and bones, it can also present at multiple other sites. Because of its nonspecific clinical and imaging manifestations, it is often misdiagnosed. The possibility of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma must be considered in the presence of a slowly growing mass that invades adjacent structures. Imaging can help plan percutaneous biopsy, detect sites of disease, and identify poor prognostic factors.

The purpose of this article is to review the spectrum of imaging manifestations of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma across different organ systems and briefly describe its current treatment strategies. CONCLUSION. Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a rare, locally invasive neoplasm with metastatic potential. Although most commonly occurring in liver, lungs, and bones, it can also present at multiple other sites. Because of its nonspecific clinical and imaging manifestations, it is often misdiagnosed. Imaging can help plan percutaneous biopsy, detect sites of disease, and identify poor prognostic factors. Ninety-four patients undergoing robotic major hepatectomy were prospectively followed. With regression analysis, demographic data and postoperative outcomes were compared to age. Participants in Experiment 1 (N = 114) were exposed to either the SECPT or a warm-water control condition and then completed the decision-making under uncertainty task. Compared to the control condition, those exposed to the acute stress manipulation chose the high-uncertainty option that provided highly variable but larger rewards over the option that provided stable, smaller rewards. Experiment 2 (N = 95) incorporated a salivary cortisol measure. Results replicated the behavioral findings in Experiment 1 and demonstrated that the acute stress manipulation increased salivary cortisol. Indian and US viewers (N = 152) identified events in everyday activities (e.g., making coffee) recorded in Indian and US settings. Consistent with their cultural preference for analytical processing, US viewers segmented the activities into more events than did Indian viewers. Furthermore, event boundaries identified by US viewers were more strongly associated with visual changes, whereas boundaries identified by Indian viewers were more strongly associated with goal changes. There was no evidence that familiarity with an activity impacted segmentation. In this study, I contend that, within the context of stigmatization, linked fate may also be compellingly conceptualized as an expression of collective threat and vulnerability with potential relevance for the mental health of African Americans, in particular. Nevertheless, existing research on race and mental health has remained silent on this issue, as linked fate has received little scholarly attention from researchers interested in mental health. Building on prior research on ethnoracial identity, stigmatization, and mental health among African Americans, I introduce linked fate as a neglected, yet important phenomenon among stigmatized minorities, which is deeply associated with ethnoracial identification and should also be considered when examining the consequences of ethnoracial identification on the mental health of African Americans. Using nationally-representative data and logistic regression, I find that linked fate not only fails to be health-protective but is significantly associated with poorer mental health among African Americans in the form of increased suffering from major depression, bipolar I, and anxiety disorders.
Women pregnant during the COVID-19 pandemic are experiencing moderate to high levels of emotional distress, which has previously been shown to be attributable to two types of pandemic-related pregnancy stress stress associated with feeling unprepared for birth due to the pandemic (Preparedness Stress) and stress related to fears of perinatal COVID-19 infection (Perinatal Infection Stress).
Given the well-documented harms associated with elevated prenatal stress and the critical importance of developing appropriately targeted interventions, we investigated factors predictive of pandemic-related pregnancy stress.
Between April 25 and May 15, 2020, 4,451 pregnant women in the U.S. were recruited via social media to complete an online questionnaire that included sociodemographic, medical, and COVID-19 situational factors, as well as the Pandemic-Related Pregnancy Stress Scale (PREPS). Binary logistic regression was used to calculate odds ratios for high stress.
Nearly 30% of participants reported high Preparedness Stress; a similar proportion reported high Perinatal Infection Stress.

The complex trans-[RuNO(NH3)4F]SiF6 was synthesized in quantitative yield and the structure was characterized by X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic methods. The complex crystallizes in the non-centrosymmetric space group Pn. Hirshfeld surface analysis revealed that the dominant intermolecular interactions are of types H...F and F...O, which are likely to be responsible for the packing of the molecules in a non-centrosymmetric structure. Irradiation with blue light leads to the formation of Ru-ON (metastable state MS1) and Ru-η2-(NO) (metastable state MS2) bond isomers, as shown by IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The structural features of the MS1 isomer were elucidated by photocrystallography. The complex exhibits exceptionally good thermal stability of the metastable state MS1, such that it can be populated by light at 290-300 K, which is important for potential applications. The second harmonic (SH) emission can be generated by femtosecond-pulsed irradiation of the complex. The generated SH is rather efficient and stable under long-term exposure. Finally, since both metastable states and harmonic generation can be generated at room temperature, an attempt to drive the SH response by photoisomerization of the nitrosyl ligand was made and is discussed.The organic-inorganic hybrid compound 4-aminopyridinium tetraaquabis(sulfato)iron(III), (C5H7N2)[FeIII(H2O)4(SO4)2] (4apFeS), was obtained by slow evaporation of the solvent at room temperature and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction in the temperature range from 290 to 80 K. For a bulk composition corresponding to 10.45 wt% CaO, 5.49 wt% MgO, 69.15 wt% Fe2O3, 13.37 wt% Al2O3 and 1.55 wt% SiO2 synthesis runs have been performed in air in the range between 1100 and 1300°C. Products have been characterized using reflected-light microscopy, electron microprobe analysis and diffraction techniques. At 1250°C, an almost phase-pure material with composition Ca2.99Mg2.67Fe3+14.58Fe2+0.77Al4.56Si0.43O36 has been obtained. The compound corresponds to the first Si-containing representative of the M14+6nO20+8n polysomatic series of so-called SFCA phases (Silico-Ferrites of Calcium and Aluminum) with n = 2 and is denoted as SFCA-III. Single-crystal diffraction investigations using synchrotron radiation at the X06DA beamline of the Swiss Light Source revealed that the chemically homogenous sample contained both a triclinic and monoclinic polytype. Basic crystallographic data arehis phenomenon and may therefore be also helpful for better interpretation of the powder diffraction patterns that are used for phase analysis of iron-ore sinters.Seven-coordinated (NH4)2TaF7, Rb2TaF7 and Rb3TaOF6 were synthesized in single-crystal form and their structures were determined. A monocapped trigonal prism (CTP) or a pentagonal bipyramid (PB) of the TaF72- anion are stereochemically nonrigid and coexist in the first two compounds as a result of strong intraspheric dynamics. Cubic elpasolite-like Rb3TaOF6 is characterized by the simultaneous two-state coexistence of TaOF63- of the PB shape as rigidly reoriented and as fluxional. In the former case, the central atom is disordered over the octahedron in the unit cell, allowing the determination of the short Ta-O distance, whereas in the latter case, tantalum remains in the polyhedron center, resulting in synchronous Ta-O and Ta-F stretching vibrations appearing as the infrared band at 723 cm-1.

Cubic elpasolite-like Rb3TaOF6 is characterized by the simultaneous two-state coexistence of TaOF63- of the PB shape as rigidly reoriented and as fluxional. In the former case, the central atom is disordered over the octahedron in the unit cell, allowing the determination of the short Ta-O distance, whereas in the latter case, tantalum remains in the polyhedron center, resulting in synchronous Ta-O and Ta-F stretching vibrations appearing as the infrared band at 723 cm-1.0 Comments 0 Shares 6 Views 0 Reviews
