  • There has been an increasing interest in extracellular vesicles as potential diagnostic, prognostic or therapeutic biomarkers for various kidney diseases, as extracellular vesicles mediate cell-cell or intercellular communication. This review explores the current state of knowledge regarding extracellular vesicles as a tool for examining kidney physiology and disease.

    Accumulating evidence supports the important contribution of volume-related metrics to morbidity and mortality in patients receiving chronic haemodialysis. The purpose of this review is to summarize recent advances in the understanding and management of volume status in this high-risk group.

    Delivery of optimal volume management involves three key components accurate estimation of volume status, correction of extracellular fluid overload and prevention of intradialytic instability. The lack of a gold standard for assessing volume status makes accurate estimation difficult to achieve; clinical examination has insufficient sensitivity and specificity, while tools to assist in the objective measurement of extracellular fluid volume require further validation. Hypervolemia is common in patients on chronic haemodialysis and substantially increases the risk of morbidity and mortality. Rapid correction of hypervolemia should be avoided due to the risk of precipitating intradialytic hypotension and hypoperfusion of vital end-organs, including the heart, brain, liver, gut and kidneys. Evidence-based interventions to aid in normalizing extracellular fluid volume are urgently needed; several targeted strategies are currently being evaluated. Many centres have successfully implemented local protocols and programmes to enhance volume management.

This has resulted in the widespread use of monitoring and surveillance programmes. Surveillance uses more resources than monitoring and has not been convincingly shown to improve outcomes. The evidence supporting the use of the various monitoring tools has been relatively neglected and has not been the focus of literature review. This narrative review is the first to appraise the evidence for the use of physical examination, access recirculation, Kt/V and dynamic venous pressures (DVP) as monitoring tools in mature AVF.

    The vastly increased number of data points for access recirculation, Kt/V and DVP produced as standard by online clearance monitoring (OCM) on modern dialysis machines is likely to have significantly changed the utility of these metrics in the prediction of AVF failure. Recent studies have reported the incidence of dermatological adverse events with use of anti-TNFs in IBD. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of dermatological reactions in patients on anti-TNF therapy for IBD.

    We searched MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library and EMBASE to identify studies reporting any dermatological reaction in patients exposed to anti-TNF for treatment of IBD. The incidence of dermatological complications in the entire review population was pooled by meta-analysis of data from individual studies using the random effects model. Pooled estimates in male and female patients and in patients treated with different anti-TNF agents were also calculated. We applied mixed effects (methods of moments) regression models to investigate between-study heterogeneity.

    Forty-eight studies reporting a total of 29 776 patients treated with anti-TNF medications for IBD were identified.

  • Inhalation was one of the main ways through which onsite workers were exposed to airborne bacteria. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation caused an apparent decrease in the level of bioaerosols in the air, thereby indicating that it can be utilized as an effective method for the reducing of bioaerosols. This study aims to provide preliminary data for the bioaerosols control in rural wastewater treatment process.The channel and fjord region of southern Chilean Patagonia hosts giant kelp forests (Macrocystis pyrifera) that have little known site-specific responses to diverse physical gradients. In this study, the functionality of the bio-optical, morphological and biochemical features of the kelps, that determine their light trapping and acclimation, were studied along a gradient of varying turbidity and light conditions at the land-terminating glacier of fjord Yendegaia in the Beagle Channel. These habitats are marked by glacial retreat, and M. pyrifera has successfully colonized new areas due to the effects of warming. Results indicated that under a sharp gradient of turbidity and light availability, the kelps have adapted shading characteristics. The photobiological traits (e.g. light absorption, pigment concentration, photochemistry and blade optics) of algae from depths between 6 and 13 m varied in relation to the degree of turbidity along the fjord. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/filgotinib.html However, these populations did not show obvious intra-thallus variation along the longitudinal profile e.g. blades located at different depths showed relatively similar acclimation potential to the prevailing light field. This investigation aimed at determining the occurrence of these four groups of contaminants in sedimentation ponds and determine their transport from water/sediment to organisms. PACs, including alkylated PACs, PBDEs; OPCs and BTs were determined in water, sediment, plants, dragonfly larvae and fish from two sedimentation ponds and one reference site. Fish were analysed for PAC metabolites. Overall, higher concentrations of all four pollutant groups were detected in water and sediment from sedimentation ponds compared to two natural lakes in rural environments (reference sites). The concentration difference was highest in sediments, and >20 higher concentration was measured in sedimentation ponds (3.6-4.4 ng/g ww) compared to reference (0.2 ng/g ww) for sum BDE6. For PACs and PBDEs a clear transport from water/sediment to organisms were observed. Fish were the highest trophic level organism (3.5-5) in our study, and all four pollutant groups were detected in fish. For PBDEs a trophic biomagnification (TMF) was found both in sedimentation ponds and reference, but higher concentrations in all matrices were measured in sedimentation ponds. TMF was not calculated for PACs since they are metabolised by vertebrates, but a transfer from water/sediment to organisms was seen. For BTs and OPCs, no consistent transfer to plants and dragonfly larvae could be seen. One OPC and two BTs were detected in fish, but only in fish from sedimentation ponds. THg values in MV waters of HCO3-Cl/Na- and/or Cl-HCO3/Na-types with рН = 7.4-9.5 mostly fell in a range of 79-440 ng/L, but rarely exceeded 600 ng/L, being comparable with those for geothermal systems. Another issue of interest was the distribution of THg in below- and above-ground parts of halophyte plant Limonium caspium. THg was incorporated into the plant roots, leaves and flowers; the roots exhibited higher concentrations of THg relative to the other organs. The Hg bioaccumulation factor ranged from 0.06 to 0.76. GEM concentrations measured over large bubbling MV pools and newly formed cracks showed values (50 to 520 ng·m-3) higher than background values (≤3 ng·m-3) associated with pristine test sites and background values measured within three MV areas of the Kerch peninsula that is slightly higher than background concentration for the Northern Hemisphere. Fish were acutely exposed to either control or one of two environmentally relevant oil concentrations and reared together in groups of 15 (5 from each exposure concentration) for eight weeks under resource-rich or resource-limited scenarios. Relative to controls, a 41.3% and 45.9% reduction in the specific growth rate was-observed following exposure to 25.3 and 53.4 μg l-1 ΣPAH respectively under resource-limited conditions. These fish were subsequently sampled for metabolic performance and common indicators of social subordination including reduced glucocorticoid receptors in the gill and caudal fin damage.

  • To evaluate the safety in cochlear implantation without preoperative computed tomography diagnostics, which was implemented into the protocol of cochlear implantation in 2013, since in the year before, new evidence concerning the risks of ionizing radiation especially in children arose.

    In this retrospective data analysis 89 children under 36 months, which were cochlear implanted from 2008 until 2018at a tertiary referral centre with a large cochlear implant program were analysed. Fortyfour of the children were implanted before the date of change in 2013 and 45 in the following years up to now. The data about the operative procedures, the postoperative care and the complication rate before and after implementation of the new protocol were compared.

    Before the date of change in 2013, 100% of patients received preoperative CT diagnostics, in the following years 13.3%. No difference in the duration of surgery, the procedure related and the late complications between the two groups was identified.

Research focusing on the handling of psychosocial conditions in the COVID-19 outbreak seems sparse. After reviewing several scholarly articles, we recommend several things that can be used as a basis for developing practical guidelines for handling psychosocial problems, especially in East Java Province, Indonesia. Development of practical guidelines for first-hand response and early treatment of psychosocial aspects of COVID-19 in East Java Province, Indonesia, based on the recommendations of 14 articles related to COVID-19 psychosocial handling was carried out. Some evidence strongly supports the need for knowledge about the stages of COVID-19, understanding of psychosocial responses, understanding of psychosocial interventions, and availability of hotline services in psychosocial interventions at each stage of the COVID-19 outbreak. It is important to provide practical guidance for the early management of psychosocial aspects of the innovative COVID-19 in providing more comprehensive care. There is strong evidence of the need for practical guidance on initial handling of the psychosocial aspects of COVID-19 for the community, especially in Indonesia's East Java Province.Previous research has demonstrated how time perspective, and in particular scores on the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI), is significantly related to measures of Anxiety and Depression. However, ZTPI scores have been operationalized in multiple ways, including as composite scores, taking simultaneous account of mean values on all five dimensions. The present study examined if two of these composite approaches, Deviation from a Negative and/or a Balanced Time Perspective (DNTP/DBTP) scores, were significantly related to self-reported symptoms of Anxiety and Depression. Data were in two independent University samples (N = 530; N = 410), including ZTPI data, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale data. While path models revealed significant relationships between DBTP, DNTP and both HADS-A and HADS-D scores, these did not always survive the inclusion of direct paths between ZTPI dimensions and HADS score. In other words, some individual ZTPI dimensions, in particular past negative, appear to be more important than overall composite score. Scores were self-reported, and both samples were gathered in the same geography, making generalizability of findings difficult. On the basis of these results, further studies across different samples and age groups using DNTP and DBTP are required.There is a need for a clearer understanding of the factors associated with increased risk of aggression and violence (AV) among people with psychosis and other severe mental illness (SMI) to guide effective prevention and intervention. The current article (1) reviews the literature regarding psychosocial factors associated with AV among individuals with psychosis and other SMI who do not have longstanding antisocial behaviors, (2) proposes an integrative psychosocial model of AV that can be practically applied, and (3) proposes appropriate evidence-based clinical interventions to reduce AV and facilitate recovery. We propose that increased risk for AV among people with psychosis is driven by anger, which is affected by a range of factors including victimization and situational stressors, social rejection or experiences of discrimination, anxious arousal, and hostile attribution bias related to psychosis. The cumulative effect of these systems is exacerbated by co-occurring substance misuse and increased impulsivity, particularly negative urgency.     To evaluate the safety in cochlear implantation without preoperative computed tomography diagnostics, which was implemented into the protocol of cochlear implantation in 2013, since in the year before, new evidence concerning the risks of ionizing radiation especially in children arose. In this retrospective data analysis 89 children under 36 months, which were cochlear implanted from 2008 until 2018at a tertiary referral centre with a large cochlear implant program were analysed. Fortyfour of the children were implanted before the date of change in 2013 and 45 in the following years up to now. The data about the operative procedures, the postoperative care and the complication rate before and after implementation of the new protocol were compared. Before the date of change in 2013, 100% of patients received preoperative CT diagnostics, in the following years 13.3%. No difference in the duration of surgery, the procedure related and the late complications between the two groups was identified. However, ZTPI scores have been operationalized in multiple ways, including as composite scores, taking simultaneous account of mean values on all five dimensions. The present study examined if two of these composite approaches, Deviation from a Negative and/or a Balanced Time Perspective (DNTP/DBTP) scores, were significantly related to self-reported symptoms of Anxiety and Depression. Data were in two independent University samples (N = 530; N = 410), including ZTPI data, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale data. While path models revealed significant relationships between DBTP, DNTP and both HADS-A and HADS-D scores, these did not always survive the inclusion of direct paths between ZTPI dimensions and HADS score. In other words, some individual ZTPI dimensions, in particular past negative, appear to be more important than overall composite score. Scores were self-reported, and both samples were gathered in the same geography, making generalizability of findings difficult. On the basis of these results, further studies across different samples and age groups using DNTP and DBTP are required.There is a need for a clearer understanding of the factors associated with increased risk of aggression and violence (AV) among people with psychosis and other severe mental illness (SMI) to guide effective prevention and intervention. The current article (1) reviews the literature regarding psychosocial factors associated with AV among individuals with psychosis and other SMI who do not have longstanding antisocial behaviors, (2) proposes an integrative psychosocial model of AV that can be practically applied, and (3) proposes appropriate evidence-based clinical interventions to reduce AV and facilitate recovery. We propose that increased risk for AV among people with psychosis is driven by anger, which is affected by a range of factors including victimization and situational stressors, social rejection or experiences of discrimination, anxious arousal, and hostile attribution bias related to psychosis. Using 95, 97, and 99% similarity as thresholds, averagely 22.29, 32.3, and 64.1% of total OTUs retrieved from sediments of the two trenches were identified as the potentially novel lineages, respectively. The compositions of the potentially active communities, revealed via ribosomal RNA (rRNA), were significantly different from those of bulk communities (rDNA) in all samples from both trenches. The dominant taxa in bulk communities generally accounted for low proportions in the rRNA libraries, signifying that the abundance was not necessarily related to community functions in the hadal sediments. The potentially active communities showed high diversity and composed primarily of heterotrophic lineages, supporting their potential contributions in organic carbon consumption. Network analysis revealed high modularity and non-random co-occurrence of phylogenetically unrelated taxa, indicating highly specified micro-niches and close microbial interactions in the hadal sediments tested. Thus, laboratory procedures to study the survival of S. enterica in fresh vegetables should be adjusted accordingly. Here, we describe a protocol to assess the population dynamics of S. enterica serovar Typhimurium 14028s in the leaf apoplast of three cultivars of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). By comparing a range of inoculum concentrations, we showed that vacuum infiltration of a bacterium inoculum level in the range of 3.4 Log CFU ml-1 (with a recovery of approximately 170 cells per gram of fresh leaves 2 h post inoculation) allows for a robust assessment of bacterial persistence in three lettuce cultivars using serial dilution plating and qPCR methods. We anticipate that this method can be applied to other leaf-human pathogen combinations in an attempt to standardize the procedure for future efforts to screen for plant phenotypic variability, which is useful for breeding programs.

Teaching EBP competencies along undergraduate nursing curricula should be a high priority at nursing programmes. The use of innovative approaches seems to be more effective than traditional ways. Education of EBP increases its future use and critical thinking and EBP programs improve self-efficacy and the level of evidence utilization.Excessive methylglyoxal (MG) production contributes to metabolic and vascular changes by increasing inflammatory processes, disturbing regulatory mechanisms and exacerbating tissue dysfunction. MG accumulation in adipocytes leads to structural and functional changes. We used transcriptome analysis to investigate the effect of MG on metabolic changes in the visceral adipose tissue of hereditary hypetriglyceridaemic rats, a non-obese model of metabolic syndrome. Compared to controls, 4-week intragastric MG administration impaired glucose tolerance (p less then 0.05) and increased glycaemia (p less then 0.01) and serum levels of MCP-1 and TNFα (p less then 0.05), but had no effect on serum adiponectin or leptin. Adipose tissue insulin sensitivity and lipolysis were impaired (p less then 0.05) in MG-treated rats. In addition, MG reduced the expression of transcription factor Nrf2 (p less then 0.01), which controls antioxidant and lipogenic genes. Increased expression of Mcp-1 and TNFα (p less then 0.05) together with activation of the SAPK/JNK signaling pathway can promote chronic inflammation in adipose tissue. Transcriptome network analysis revealed the over-representation of genes involved in insulin signaling (Irs1, Igf2, Ide), lipid metabolism (Nr1d1, Lpin1, Lrpap1) and angiogenesis (Dusp10, Tp53inp1).This study aimed to investigate the effect of the l-arginine (Arg) inclusion and different doses of ZnO on the growth performance, intestinal microbiota and integrity, and immune status of weaned pigs. A total of 180 pigs (28-day-old) were randomly allotted to six treatments with six replicate pens in each treatment and five pigs per pen. The dietary treatments were Con (1.1% Arg); P-Zn (1.1% Arg + 2500 mg Zn as ZnO/kg diet); ARG (1.6% Arg); ZnArg1 (500 mg of Zn as ZnO/kg diet + 1.6% Arg); ZnArg2 (1000 mg of Zn as ZnO/kg diet + 1.6% Arg); ZnArg3 (2500 mg of Zn as ZnO/kg diet + 1.6% Arg). The overall result showed that the inclusion of ZnArg3 significantly improved the average daily gain of pigs compared with the Con treatment. There was a reduction in feed intake in pigs fed the Con diet compared with pigs fed the ZnArg3 diet at phase 1 and overall. At phase 1, pigs fed the ZnArg3 diet and P-Zn diet showed a decreased population of Clostridium spp. in the ileum compared with those of the Con treatment. In addreceptor-4 was upregulated in the Con and ARG treatments compared with the ZnArg1 and ZnArg3. The ZnArg1, ZnArg2, and ZnArg3 treatments showed lower mRNA expression of TNF-α compared with the Con treatment. The dietary treatments were Con (1.1% Arg); P-Zn (1.1% Arg + 2500 mg Zn as ZnO/kg diet); ARG (1.6% Arg); ZnArg1 (500 mg of Zn as ZnO/kg diet + 1.6% Arg); ZnArg2 (1000 mg of Zn as ZnO/kg diet + 1.6% Arg); ZnArg3 (2500 mg of Zn as ZnO/kg diet + 1.6% Arg). The overall result showed that the inclusion of ZnArg3 significantly improved the average daily gain of pigs compared with the Con treatment. There was a reduction in feed intake in pigs fed the Con diet compared with pigs fed the ZnArg3 diet at phase 1 and overall.   • Predicting the activities and properties of materials via in silico methods has been shown to be a cost- and time-effective way of aiding chemists in synthesizing materials with desired properties. Refractive index (n) is one of the most important defining characteristics of an optical material. Presented in this work is a quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) model that was developed to predict the refractive index for a diverse set of polymers. A number of models were created, where a four-variable model showed the best predictive performance with R2 = 0.904 and Q2LOO = 0.897. The robustness and predictability of the best model was validated using the leave-one-out technique, external set and y-scrambling methods. The predictive ability of the model was confirmed with the external set, showing the R2ext = 0.880. For the refractive index, the ionization potential, polarizability, 2D and 3D geometrical descriptors were the most influential properties. In this paper, the Shuping landslide, a typical seepage-induced landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir area of China, is taken as an example. A series of numerical simulations were carried out to figure out the seepage field, and the Morgenstein-Price method was adopted to calculate the landslide stability. Then the influence of horizontal location of the drainage well, drainage well depth, drainage mode on the landslide treatment effect, and the applicability of drainage well were analyzed. The results show that (1) landslide stability increases obviously with the well depth in the slide mass, while the increment of landslide stability with the well depth is limited in the slide bed; (2) the sensitivity of the stability improvement with the depth is greater than that with the horizontal positions of the drainage wells in the slide mass; (3) the drainage well is suggested to be operated when the reservoir water falls rather than operates all the time; and (4) the drainage method is most suitable for landslides with low and medium permeability. To solve these two problems, a two-layer transfer learning framework based on a temporal convolution network (TL-TCN) is proposed for the first time, which transfers the knowledge learned from the source heating zone to the target heating zone. In the first layer, the TCN model is built for the source domain data, and the self-transfer learning method is used to optimize the TCN model to obtain the basic model, which improves the prediction accuracy of the source domain. In the second layer, we propose two frameworks one is to generate the target model directly by using fine-tuning, and the other is to generate the target model by using generative adversarial networks (GAN) for domain adaption. Case studies demonstrated that the proposed TL-TCN framework achieves state-of-the-art prediction results on each dataset, and the prediction errors are significantly reduced.   • COVID-19 is causing an enormous psychological burden for most people. This study aims to assess individual changes in mental health and health status before and after the COVID-19 outbreak, and to explore potential predictors of change.

    A cross-sectional study in Germany (n = 15 037) were conducted. Demographics, depression and anxiety symptoms (PHQ-2, GAD-2), distress (DT), and health status (EQ-5D-3L) were assessed. Additionally, all instruments used were adapted to measure the participants' mental health and health status before the COVID-19 outbreak. COVID-19-related fear, trust in governmental actions to face COVID-19, and the subjective level of information about COVID-19 were examined.

    Overall, the participants showed a significant increase in depression and anxiety symptoms, and distress, while health status deteriorated since the COVID-19 outbreak. Impairment in mental health was predicted by COVID-19-related fear. They cannot be digested and most are unable to pass through the pylorus. Here, we describe a giant hard gastric bezoar that was removed by using combined dual knife-electric snare treatment. This strategy has rarely been reported and can eliminate the need for surgery. The patient exhibited a giant hard gastric bezoar and reported a habit of eating persimmons. A giant persimmon bezoar was treated using a combined dual knife-electric snare approach, without any complications. Follow-up endoscopy revealed that the bezoar had been successfully removed. Dorsal root ganglion-compressed neuropathic pain model was established in animals, and knocking down of protein kinase C gamma was also accomplished. Pain behavioral scores were significantly improved in the short hairpin Protein Kinase C gamma knockdown CCD animals during optic stimulation. Ventral posterolateral thalamic firing inhibition was also observed during light stimulation on motor cortex in CCD animal. We assessed alteration of pain behaviors in pre-light off, stimulation-light on, and post-light off state. In vivo extracellular recording of the ventral posterolateral thalamus, viral expression in the primary motor cortex, and protein kinase C gamma expression in dorsal root ganglion were investigated. So, optical cortico-thalamic inhibition by motor cortex stimulation can improve neuropathic pain behaviors in CCD animal, and knocking down of protein kinase C gamma plays a conducive role in the process. The high-risk dementia group had the most overlap with the decreasing social isolation group (47%), followed by the persistently isolated group (28%). Conclusions Social isolation and dementia mostly evolved in the same direction. However, the pattern of associations between these trajectories is intricate and may be reversed among long-term dementia survivors.
    Understanding barriers in primary health care access faced by Canadian immigrants, especially among women, is important for developing mitigation strategies. The aim of this study was to gain an in-depth understanding of perceived challenges and unmet primary health care access needs of Bangladeshi immigrant women in Canada.

    In this qualitative study, we conducted 7 focus groups among a sample of 42 first-generation immigrant women on their experiences in primary health care access in their preferred language, Bangla. Descriptive analysis was used for their socio-demographic characteristics and inductive thematic analysis was applied to the qualitative data.

    The hurdles reported included long wait time at emergency service points, frustration from slow treatment process, economic losses resulting from absence at work, communication gap between physicians and immigrant patients, and transportation problem to go to the health care centers. No access to medical records for walk-in doctors, lack of urgent care, and lack of knowledge about Canadian health care systems are a few of other barriers emerged from the focus group discussions.

Supplementary artificial lighting resulted in improved reproduction in some studies, but reports have been inconsistent. To evaluate the results from previous studies of supplementary lighting on goose egg production, a meta-analysis was conducted to determine optimal supplementary artificial lighting regimens for geese egg production. Results indicated supplementary artificial light increases mean egg production, the length of the period of egg production before there is cessation of egg production capacity, and fertility. We aim to answer these questions by a detailed evaluation of different scenarios for supervoxel segmentation and classification for detecting abnormal brain asymmetries. Experimental results on 3D MR-T1 brain images of stroke patients confirm the importance of high-quality supervoxels fit anomalies and the use of a specific classifier for each supervoxel. Next, we present a refinement of the detection method that reduces the number of false-positive supervoxels, thereby making the detection method easier to use for visual inspection and analysis of the found anomalies.
    High-risk patients ≥65 y of age with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) tended to have lower serum prealbumin concentrations. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of prealbumin at baseline on COVID-19-related mortality in elderly patients (≥65 y of age).

    We non-selectively and consecutively collected participants from Tongji Hospital in Wuhan from January 17 to February 17, 2020. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were employed to evaluate the correlation between prealbumin and in-hospital outcomes (in-hospital mortality, admission to the intensive care unit [ICU], and mechanical ventilation) in elderly patients with COVID-19. Linear trend was performed by entering the median value of each category of prealbumin tertile as a continuous variable and was visually confirmed by using generalized additive models. Interaction and stratified analyses were conducted as well.

    We included 446 elderly patients with COVID-19 in the final analyses. In-hospital mortality was 1 COVID-19. Assessment of prealbumin may help identify high-risk individuals ≥65 y of age with COVID-19.

This study was designed to identify the biomarkers of obesity and describe associations with selected metabolic disorders of obesity among Sri Lankan adolescents.

    The present study compared the characteristics of obese (n=121) and normal weight (n=263) adolescents, including sociodemographic, anthropometric, and selected biochemical parameters (e.g., lipid profile, serum leptin, adiponectin, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein [hs-CRP]).     Adoptive cellular therapy involves the ex vivo expansion of immune cells, conventionally T cells, before reinfusion back to the patient. Variations in adoptive cellular therapy include transduction of a patient's T cells with either a transgenic T cell receptor or chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) to recognize a defined tumor antigen. Given that adenosine is a major axis of immunosuppression of T cells, particularly in hypoxic tumor microenvironments, therapeutics targeting this pathway are currently being assessed for their potential to enhance adoptive T cell therapies. The use of gene-editing technology, commonly used in tandem with CAR and transgenic T cell receptor (TCR) based adoptive cellular therapy, offers further opportunities to specifically modulate responses to adenosine. Females had higher presentation rates than males, particularly among younger age groups. The highest rates of presentations were by persons aged 15-24. Overseas-born persons had around half the rates of suicidal presentations than Australian-born persons, and Indigenous persons had 2.9-times higher rates than non-Indigenous persons. Of all presenters, 70.6% presented once, but 5.7% had five or more presentations. Seasonal distribution of presentations showed a peak at the end of spring and a decline in winter months. Seed embryo, flower stalk, stamen, old leaf, petal, and leaf stalk of sacred lotus were extracted using hot water (aqueous extraction). The extractions were analyzed for their bioactive constituents, antioxidant and anti-AD properties as key enzyme inhibitory activities toward acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and β-secretase 1 (****-1). Results showed that the sacred lotus stamen exhibited significant amounts of phenolics, including phenolic acids and flavonoids, that contributed to high antioxidant activity via both single electron transfer (SET) and hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) mechanisms, with anti-AChE, anti-BChE, and anti-****-1 activities. To enhance utilization of other sacred lotus parts, a combination of stamen, old leaf and petal as the three sacred lotus plant components with the highest phenolic contents, antioxidant activities, and enzyme inhibitory properties was analyzed. Antagonist interaction was observed, possibly from flavonoids-flavonoids interaction. Further in-depth elucidation of this issue is required. All ultrasound-treated cooked pāua yielded lower slice shear force values (SSFV) than untreated canned and cooked samples. The lowest SSFV was attained when ultrasound treatment in water was followed by soaking at 4 °C for 24 h. The increased tenderness of ultrasound-treated pāua could be linked to disintegration of myofibers and formation of gaps between myofibers, as observed through histological analysis and transmission electron microscopy.
