    Determine interobserver reproducibility of fetal ultrasound biometry and amniotic fluid assessment in the third trimester according to BMI categories.

    Prospective cohort of women with singleton gestations beyond 34 weeks, recruited into 4 groups according to BMI categories normal, overweight, obese and morbid obese. Multiple pregnancies, diabetes, growth and fetal abnormalities were excluded. Biometric and fluid measurements were obtained by two experienced physicians/sonographers, blinded for gestational age and each other's measurements. Differences between observers were expressed as gestational age-specific Z-scores. Interobserver correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's reliability coefficient (CRC) were calculated. Bland-Altman plots were constructed to assess the level of reproducibility.

    110 women were prospectively enrolled (1,320 measurements obtained by 17 sonographers / physicians) 20 had normal BMI (18.2%), 30 were overweight (27.3%), 30 were obese (27.3%) and 30 were morbidly obese (27.3%). Except for MVP (CRC 0.66), all biometric parameters and AFI had high level of reproducibility (CRC 0.84 - 0.93). Among BMI groups BPD had the highest level of reproducibility (CRC > 0.90); AC and FL reproducibility increased with increasing BMI while MVP decreased. Interobserver differences for biometry fell within the 95% limits of agreement.

In China, Asian carp is a tasty dish and has been consumed for thousands of years. However, they are considered aggressive invasive species that threaten rivers, lakes, and indigenous species in the United States. Asian carp have proliferated greatly in the water basin of the Mississippi River and its tributaries, and they have caused severe ecological problems over the past 20 years. In recent years, several state governments along the Mississippi River have implemented assistance programs to eliminate invasive Asian carp, but these did not alleviate the threat. We conducted a survey to understand consumers' attitudes toward Asian carp in the United States, and related reports were reviewed to explore the possibility of Asian carp as food fish on American tables. Emphasis is placed on the farming history, functional characteristics, consumption preferences, and successful utilization methods for Asian carp in China. In addition, suggestions and possible utilization methods were proposed to improve the negative impression of Asian carp in the United States. The patient's condition was complicated by chronic bilateral lower limb cellulitis and associated osteomyelitis which was unresponsive to extensive antibiotic regimens. Subsequent treatment with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) was successful. To date, no author has reported on the treatment of recurrent cellulitis using HBOT in this patient population. Based on our experience, HBOT should be considered in patients with PN.Routine action sequences can share a great deal of similarity in terms of their stimulus response mappings. As a consequence, their correct execution relies crucially on the ability to preserve contextual and temporal information. However, there are few empirical studies on the neural mechanism and the brain areas maintaining such information. To address this gap in the literature, we recently recorded the blood-oxygen level dependent (BOLD) response in a newly developed coffee-tea making task. The task involves the execution of four action sequences that each comprise six consecutive decision states, which allows for examining the maintenance of contextual and temporal information. Here, we report a reanalysis of this dataset using a data-driven approach, namely multivariate pattern analysis, that examines context-dependent neural activity across several predefined regions of interest. Results highlight involvement of the inferior-temporal gyrus and lateral prefrontal cortex in maintaining temporal and contextual information for the execution of hierarchically organized action sequences.

  • Adrenal cortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare cancer with poor prognosis that needs to be distinguished from adrenocortical adenomas (ACAs). Although, the recently developed transcriptome analysis seems to be a reliable tool for the differential diagnosis of adrenocortical neoplasms, it is not widely available in clinical practice. We aim to evaluate histological and immunohistochemical markers for the distinction of ACCs from ACAs along with assessing their prognostic role. Clinical data were retrospectively analyzed from 37 patients; 24 archived, formalin-fixed, and paraffin-embedded ACC samples underwent histochemical analysis of reticulin and immunohistochemical analysis of p27, p53, Ki-67 markers and were compared with 13 ACA samples. Weiss and Helsinki scores were also considered. Kaplan-Meier and univariate Cox regression methods were implemented to identify prognostic effects. Altered reticulin pattern, Ki-67% labelling index and overexpression of p53 protein were found to be useful histopathological markers for distinguishing ACAs from ACCs. Among the studied markers, only pathological p53 nuclear protein expression was found to reach statistically significant association with poor survival and development of metastases, although in a small series of patients. In conclusion, altered reticulin pattern and p53/Ki-67 expression are useful markers for distinguishing ACCs from ACAs. Immunohistopathology alone cannot discriminate ACCs with different prognosis and it should be combined with morphological criteria and transcriptome analysis.We read with great interest the paper by Roelofs et al [...].Current staging systems of cancer are mainly based on the anatomical extent of disease. The rope-driven PVEH consisting of one low-frequency driving beam (LFDB) and one high-frequency generating beam (HFGB) connected with a rope was modeled as two mass-spring-damper suspension systems and a massless spring, which can be used to predict the dynamic motion of the LFDB and HFGB. Using this model, the effects of multiple parameters including excitation acceleration, rope margin and rope stiffness in the performance of the PVEH have been investigated systematically by numerical simulation and experiments. The results show a reasonable agreement between the simulation and experimental study, which demonstrates the validity of the proposed model of rope-driven PVEH. It was also found that the performance of the PVEH can be adjusted conveniently by only changing rope margin or stiffness. The dynamic mechanical model of the rope-driven PVEH built in this paper can be used to the further device design or optimization.In the present work, we have successfully prepared and characterized novel nanocomposite material exhibiting temperature-dependent surface wettability changes, based on grafted brush coatings of non-fouling poly(di(ethylene glycol)methyl ether methacrylate) (POEGMA) with the embedded CaCO3 nanoparticles. Grafted polymer brushes attached to the glass surface were prepared in a three-step process using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Subsequently, uniform CaCO3 nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in POEGMA-grafted brush coatings were synthesized using biomineralized precipitation from solutions of CaCl2 and Na2CO3. An impact of the low concentration of the embedded CaCO3 NPs on cell adhesion and growth depends strongly on the type of studied cell line keratinocytes (HaCaT), melanoma (WM35) and osteoblastic (MC3T3-e1). Based on the temperature-responsive properties of grafted brush coatings and CaCO3 NPs acting as biologically active substrate, we hope that our research will lead to a new platform for tissue engineering with modified growth of the cells due to the release of biologically active substances from CaCO3 NPs and the ability to detach the cells in a controlled manner using temperature-induced changes of the brush.
    microRNAs (miRs) have emerged as important modulators of cardiovascular development and disease. Our aim was to determine whether cardiac-related miRs such as miR-21-5p and miR-1-3p were differentially expressed in acute viral myocarditis and whether any of them was related with the extent of myocardial damage and left ventricular dysfunction.

    We enrolled 40 patients with acute viral myocarditis. Blood samples were taken on admission and miRs expression levels in peripheral blood mononuclear cells were quantified by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.

Upon searching the literature, terms such as aggression and stress predominate, but these do not completely represent the rich mental lives that cats are now understood to have. Emotions have recently emerged as an alternative approach to animal behaviour/welfare assessment. However, few resources describe how to identify them, and positive emotions are particularly neglected. In addition, no simple, broad, and concise guide to feline emotions currently exists within the research literature. Therefore, this research aimed to develop a straightforward and clear reference guide to felineion, novices may benefit from exposure to more images of feline emotional state, particularly those involving mixed emotions.     Previous studies have shown that DNA methylation (DNAm) is associated with body mass index (BMI). However, it is unknown whether DNAm at pre-adolescence is associated with BMI status transition from pre- to post-adolescence. In the Isle of Wight (IoW) birth cohort, genome-wide DNA methylation in whole blood was measured using Illumina Infinium Human450 and EPIC BeadChip arrays in n = 325 subjects, and pre- to post-adolescence BMI transition was classified into four groups (1) normal to normal, (2) normal to overweight or obese, (3) overweight or obese to normal, and (4) persistent overweight or obese. We used recursive random forest to screen genome-wide Cytosine-phosphate-Guanine (CpG) sites with DNAm potentially associated with BMI transition for each gender, and the association of BMI status transition with DNAm at an earlier age was assessed via logistic regressions. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/17-AAG(Geldanamycin).html To evaluate gender specificity, interactions between DNAm and gender were included in the model.     Although several international guidelines recommend early over late intubation of patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), this issue is still controversial. We aimed to investigate the effect (if any) of timing of intubation on clinical outcomes of critically ill patients with COVID-19 by carrying out a systematic review and meta-analysis.

    PubMed and Scopus were systematically searched, while references and preprint servers were explored, for relevant articles up to December 26, 2020, to identify studies which reported on mortality and/or morbidity of patients with COVID-19 undergoing early versus late intubation. "Early" was defined as intubation within 24h from intensive care unit (ICU) admission, while "late" as intubation at any time after 24h of ICU admission. All-cause mortality and duration of mechanical ventilation (MV) were the primary outcomes of the meta-analysis. Pooled risk ratio (RR), pooled mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using a randwait-and-see approach, which may lead to fewer intubations. Relevant guidelines may therefore need to be updated.

Here, we employed comparative metagenomics to uncover the distinct functional and phylogenetic features of the microbiomes of healthy Eunicella gazella, Eunicella verrucosa, and Leptogorgia sarmentosa tissues, in contrast with the microbiomes found in seawater and sediments. We further explored how the octocoral microbiome shifts to a pathobiome state in E. gazella.

    Multivariate analyses based on 16S rRNA genes, Clusters of Orthologous Groups of proteins (COGs), Protein families (Pfams), and secondary metabolite-biosynthetic gene clusters annotated from 20 Illumina-sequenced metagenomes each revealed separate clustering of the prokaryotic communities of healthy tissue samples of the three octocoral species from those of necrotic E. gazella tissue and surrounding environments. While the healthy octocoral microbiome was distinguished by so-far uncultivated Endozoicomopecific, and undergoes large, complex structural changes in the transition to the dysbiotic state. Host-symbiont recognition, abiotic-stress response, micronutrient acquisition, and an antiviral defense arsenal comprising multiple restriction endonucleases, CRISPR/Cas systems, and phage lysogenization regulators are signatures of prokaryotic communities in octocorals. We argue that these features collectively contribute to the stabilization of symbiosis in the octocoral holobiont and constitute beneficial traits that can guide future studies on coral reef conservation and microbiome therapy. We aimed to investigate the effect (if any) of timing of intubation on clinical outcomes of critically ill patients with COVID-19 by carrying out a systematic review and meta-analysis. PubMed and Scopus were systematically searched, while references and preprint servers were explored, for relevant articles up to December 26, 2020, to identify studies which reported on mortality and/or morbidity of patients with COVID-19 undergoing early versus late intubation. "Early" was defined as intubation within 24h from intensive care unit (ICU) admission, while "late" as intubation at any time after 24h of ICU admission. All-cause mortality and duration of mechanical ventilation (MV) were the primary outcomes of the meta-analysis. Pooled risk ratio (RR), pooled mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using a randwait-and-see approach, which may lead to fewer intubations. Natural Treg cells (nTregs), described as CD4+CD25+FOXP3+, are generated in the thymus via activation and cytokine signaling. Transforming growth factor beta type 1 (TGF-β1) is pivotal to the generation of the nTreg lineage, its maintenance in the thymus, and to generating induced Treg cells (iTregs) in the periphery or in vitro arising from conventional T cells (Tconvs). Here, we tested whether TGF-β1 treatment, associated with interleukin-2 (IL-2) and CD3/CD28 stimulation, could generate functional Treg-like cells from human thymocytes in vitro, as it does from Tconvs. Additionally, we genetically manipulated the cells for ectopic FOXP3 expression, along with the TGF-β1 treatment. We demonstrated that TGF-β1 and ectopic FOXP3, combined with IL-2 and through CD3/CD28 activation, transformed human thymocytes into cells that expressed high levels of Treg-associated markers. However, these cells also presented a lack of homogeneous suppressive function and an unstable proinflammatory cytokine profile. More importantly, according to the results obtained, the upper and lower bounds of the COP at maximum heating load for different constructions are generated and compared by the introduction of a parameter measuring the deviation from the reversible limit of the system. Accordingly, the optimal constructions for the low-dissipation three-terminal heat pump and heat transformer are determined within the frame of low-dissipation assumption, respectively. The optimal constructions in accord with previous research and engineering practices for various three-terminal devices are obtained, which confirms the compatibility between the low-dissipation model and endoreversible model and highlights the validity of the application of low-dissipation model for multi-terminal thermodynamic devices. SelectMDx is a biomarker-based risk score to assess urinary HOXC6 and DLX1 mRNA expression combined with traditional clinical risk factors. The aim of this prospective multi-institutional study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of SelectMDx and its association with multiparametric magnetic resonance (mpMRI) when predicting PCa in prostate biopsies. Overall, 310 consecutive subjects were included. All patients underwent mpMRI and SelectMDx prior to prostate biopsy. SelectMDx and mpMRI showed sensitivity and specificity of 86.5% vs. 51.9%, and 73.8% vs. 88.3%, respectively, in predicting PCa at biopsy, and 87.1% vs. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/OSI-906.html 61.3%, and 63.7% vs. 83.9%, respectively, in predicting csPCa at biopsy. The highest fire resistance was achieved for foams containing keratin and expanding graphite, for which the reduction in heat release rate (HRR) compared to VEPUR foams reached 75%.

  • Purpose Anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) are used by men for their aesthetic and performance-enhancing effects and are associated with risk for side effects. Our research aims to deepen knowledge and understanding of men´s experiences of using AAS.Method This phenomenological study is based on the reflective lifeworld research approach. Lifeworld interviews were conducted with twelve men about their experiences of using AAS.Results By using AAS, men strive towards a muscular, strong and athletic ideal. Self-imposed demands, self-discipline and performance accelerate male physical development. The perfect male body ideal thus attained is fragile from both an existential and a biological perspective. The perfect self-image can easily be shattered by adversity. A man's very existence may be jeopardized if the use of AAS is revealed to others or if the body is let down by illness.Conclusions Men´s use of AAS is a complex phenomenon. It partly concerns a traditional view of masculinity that is reflected in the community. It requires both broad and deep knowledge and understanding to be able to meet men using AAS in their problems and vulnerability; a meeting that is hampered by their low trust in healthcare, and by the fact that AAS are illegal.Long-acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) has significant promise both from a public health outlook and a social justice perspective. However, if women's empowerment is to be supported, then perspectives and experiences of LARC must be considered. This scoping review assesses research about contraceptive users' perspectives and experiences of contraceptive decision-making and practices. A content analysis was conducted to identify research trends in qualitative studies of contraceptive-user perspectives (n = 54), located by means of a systematic search. Interpreting findings through a reproductive justice lens, three main limitations in the scholarship were identified, viz., (1) an instrumentalist, individual-level focus; (2) a lack of consideration for diverse perspectives; and (3) an uncritical focus on young women. While the small body of qualitative research on LARC offers some valuable insights, when viewed from a sexual and reproductive justice perspective, it is not sufficiently user-centered or grounded within the reproductive politics surrounding contraceptive care and provision. Research is needed that draws on appropriate social theory; widens its focus beyond dominant groups; and is cognizant of the multi-level power relations surrounding LARC. Such work provides a nuanced picture of the complex social and contextual factors at play and inform person-centered approaches in sexual and reproductive health policy and programming.The church is commonly assumed to scaffold individuals' socially supportive relationships and prosocial behavior. If true, that would make the church an important support for individual development and community change, facilitating and fostering healthy relationships and positive interactions with others. In this study, we analyzed experimental data collected from 30 churches in three Latin American countries to assess the impact of an intervention targeting relational ministry practices on 6- to 14-year-old children's perceived support and prosocial behavior. Data were collected from children before (n = 710) and after (n = 612) the intervention in treatment (n = 25 churches) and control (n = 5 churches) conditions. Results indicated that the introduction of socially supportive practices in church children's ministries increased children's prosocial behavior, an effect mediated by changes in perceived support. Implications for children's development and the church as a means of community change are discussed.The performance of photo-sequencing batch reactor (PSBR) in removing multiple antibiotics and nutrients from aquaculture wastewater as well as the antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) proliferation were firstly investigated during the long-term experiments. The operational conditions (i.e. light intensity, light time, aeration and solid retention time) were optimised to realise the simultaneous removal of antibiotics and nutrients. It was found that, compared with traditional SBR, PSBR has similar nutrient removal rate and a 30% higher antibiotics removal rate due to the corporation of microalgae (Chlorella) and bacteria, and the absolute abundance of ARGs decreased by 78% in PSBR. Further investigation showed that PSBR had certain advantages in removing quinolones and the corresponding removal rate could reach up to 90%. In terms of the mechanisms, the possible metabolic pathway of antibiotic was analysed and the intermediate metabolites were different from that of the reported studies. The microbial communities were also affected by microalgae and the relative abundance of certain bacteria (such as members of the families Rhodocyclaceae and Burkholderiaceae), which were positively correlated with some ARGs, decreased in PSBR. This study provides an alternative and effective method to aquaculture wastewater treatment, which present high nutrients and antibiotics removal efficiencies and low ARGs transmission.This study aimed to assess the impact of adenomyosis (AD) on different domains of sexual life. The study population included three groups one composed of 68 women diagnosed with AD by transvaginal ultrasound, a second group comprised by 65 women diagnosed with isolated deep infiltrating endometriosis by transvaginal ultrasound and a third group including 70 women without AD or/and endometriosis. All participants completed the Brief Profile of Female Sexual Function (B-PFSF), the Female Sexual Distress Scale (FSDS), and the Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQOL-F) questionnaire. Compared with non-AD/DIE controls, women with AD present significantly lower scores of the B-PFSF and the SQOL-F questionnaires and higher FSDS questionnaire scores (p less then .0001). There were no differences between the groups of AD and deep infiltrating endometriosis. Data were collected from children before (n = 710) and after (n = 612) the intervention in treatment (n = 25 churches) and control (n = 5 churches) conditions. Results indicated that the introduction of socially supportive practices in church children's ministries increased children's prosocial behavior, an effect mediated by changes in perceived support. Implications for children's development and the church as a means of community change are discussed.The performance of photo-sequencing batch reactor (PSBR) in removing multiple antibiotics and nutrients from aquaculture wastewater as well as the antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) proliferation were firstly investigated during the long-term experiments. The operational conditions (i.e. light intensity, light time, aeration and solid retention time) were optimised to realise the simultaneous removal of antibiotics and nutrients. It was found that, compared with traditional SBR, PSBR has similar nutrient removal rate and a 30% higher antibiotics removal rate due to the corporation of microalgae (Chlorella) and bacteria, and the absolute abundance of ARGs decreased by 78% in PSBR. Further investigation showed that PSBR had certain advantages in removing quinolones and the corresponding removal rate could reach up to 90%. In terms of the mechanisms, the possible metabolic pathway of antibiotic was analysed and the intermediate metabolites were different from that of the reported studies. The microbial communities were also affected by microalgae and the relative abundance of certain bacteria (such as members of the families Rhodocyclaceae and Burkholderiaceae), which were positively correlated with some ARGs, decreased in PSBR. This study provides an alternative and effective method to aquaculture wastewater treatment, which present high nutrients and antibiotics removal efficiencies and low ARGs transmission.This study aimed to assess the impact of adenomyosis (AD) on different domains of sexual life. The study population included three groups one composed of 68 women diagnosed with AD by transvaginal ultrasound, a second group comprised by 65 women diagnosed with isolated deep infiltrating endometriosis by transvaginal ultrasound and a third group including 70 women without AD or/and endometriosis. All participants completed the Brief Profile of Female Sexual Function (B-PFSF), the Female Sexual Distress Scale (FSDS), and the Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQOL-F) questionnaire.   • Laser structuring by remelting (WaveShape) is a manufacturing process for metal surfaces in which structures are generated without material removal. The structuring principle is based on the controlled motion of the three-phase line in the area of the solidification front. The contour of the solidification front is imprinted into the remelting track during the continuous solidification process. Typically, harmonic surface structures in the form of sinusoidal oscillations are generated by means of WaveShape with virtually no material loss. However, a significant shape deviation is often observed over a wide range of process parameters. In this study, it was found that **** of the shape deviation is concentrated at a spatial wavelength equal to half the spatial wavelength used for structuring. Therefore, an approach to reduce the shape deviations was specifically investigated by superimposing a compensation signal on the harmonic structuring signal. In this study, 87 β-glucosidase-producing cultivable bacteria were screened from 6 genera of corals. The isolates were assigned to 21 genera, distributed among three groups Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria. In addition, metagenomics was used to explore the genetic diversity of bacterial β-glucosidase enzymes associated with scleractinian corals, which revealed that these enzymes mainly belong to the glycosidase hydrolase family 3 (GH3). Finally, a novel recombinant β-glucosidase, referred to as Mg9373, encompassing 670 amino acids and a molecular mass of 75.2 kDa, was classified as a member of the GH3 family and successfully expressed and characterized. Mg9373 exhibited excellent tolerance to ethanol, NaCl, and glucose. We also investigated whether the single-stranded SSOs formed secondary structures using UV melting analysis without complementary RNA. As a result, the AmNA-modified SSOs showed almost the same Tm values as the LNA-modified SSOs, with decreased secondary structure formation in the former. In contrast, the GuNA-modified SSOs showed slightly lower Tm values than the LNA-modified SSOs, with no inhibition of secondary structures. We also evaluated the exon skipping activities of the BNAs in vitro at both the mRNA and protein expression levels.

    The delivery of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) through mHealth apps has been shown to produce promising results in improving pelvic floor muscle strength and urinary incontinence (UI). However, there is limited evidence on mHealth apps designed for pregnant women who are at high risk of developing UI. This pilot study aims to evaluate the feasibility of conducting an effectiveness trial for a newly developed PFMT app among pregnant women in Malaysia.

    This is a prospective, single-centre, single-blind, randomised controlled pilot feasibility study The Kegel Exercise Pregnancy Training app (KEPT-app) Trial. Sixty-four incontinent pregnant women who attended one primary care clinic for the antenatal follow-up will be recruited and randomly assigned to either intervention or waitlist control group. The intervention group will receive the intervention, the KEPT-app developed from the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation-Behaviour (COM-B) theory with Persuasive Technology and Technology Acceptance Model.

    This study will provide a fine-tuning for our future randomised control study on the recruitment feasibility methods, acceptability, feasibility, and usability of the KEPT-app, and the methods to reduce the retention rates among pregnant women with UI.

Inactivating properties were evaluated by comparing Viruferrin-treated and cotton control fabric material with and without the application of saliva at various time points after virus exposure. A statistically significant (p 99% virus reduction without saliva after five minutes of contact when compared to the positive control at time point 0. Furthermore, the reusability of the Viruferrin treated fabric was demonstrated by stability for up to 10 washes. The level of anti-viral (SARS-CoV-2) activity remained constant from 5 to 10 washes and demonstrated a significant difference (p less then 0.0001) from the unwashed untreated material. Applications for this treated fabric are far reaching, as a biological face covering offers not only a unique 2-way protection but also is unlikely to cause onward touch transmission.It is unclear whether universal PCR screening for SARS-CoV-2 in asymptomatic individuals prior to admission is useful. The experiments were performed for solutions containing metal ions released from computer e-waste due to leaching carried out with concentrated nitric(V) acid and aqua regia. It was found that the applied polymer film allows for the efficient recovery of precious metals (98.9% of gold, 79.3% of silver, and 63.6% of palladium). The recovery of non-ferrous metals (Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sn, and Pb) was less efficient (25-40%). The objective of this study was to determine the rate of delayed referral to our centers for traumatic BPI, identifiable causes of delayed referral, and factors associated with delayed referral to a brachial plexus surgeon.

    We identified 84 patients with traumatic BPI referred to and evaluated by brachial plexus surgeons at 2 tertiary care referral centers from 2015 to 2019. Delayed referral was defined as more than 3 months from the date of injury to the date of initial evaluation by a brachial plexus surgeon. Causes of delayed referral were identified by review of the medical record. Bivariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression were used to identify factors associated with delayed referral.

    Mean age of the 84 patients in the study was 45 years; 69% were male. The most common pattern of BPI was global palsy (39%), followed by upper-trunk palsyvelopment of referral algorithms and pathways may improve timeliness of referrals.

Patients were included if they had a documented diagnosis of limited or diffuse scleroderma and underwent elective or nonemergent hand or upper-extremity calcinosis debulking surgery with a minimum final follow-up of 12 months. Primary outcomes measured were preoperative to final follow-up changes in visual analog scale pain scores. Secondary outcomes were changes in numbness and ROM as well as in daily opioid requirements, postoperative opioids used to control surgical pain, and complications.

    Thirty-nine patients underwent calcinosis debulking surgeries on 41 upper extremities. Median final follow-up was 22 months (range, 13-60 months). Here we report 4 cases of patients with heart transplant who presented with COVID-19 infection in late 2020. Patients presented with symptoms similar to those seen in the general population. All 4 patients were admitted to the hospital, and they were all treated with dexamethasone. In addition, 2 patients received remdesivir. Immunosuppressive medications were adjusted to maintain adequate levels of immunosuppression but at the same time allow for an adequate immune response against the infection. All patients were discharged alive from the hospital. We then performed a literature review on studies that included heart transplant patients who developed the infection and developed suggestions for a standardized management approach, which we share in this article.The abyss (3500-6500 m) covers the bulk of the deep ocean floor yet little is known about the extent of plastic debris on the abyssal seafloor. Using video imagery we undertook a quantitative assessment of the debris present on the abyssal seafloor (5700-5800 m depth) beneath the Kuroshio Extension current system in the Northwest Pacific. This body of water is one of the major transit pathways for the massive amounts of debris that are entering the North Pacific Ocean from Asia. Shallower sites (1400-1500 m depth) were also investigated for comparison. The dominant type of debris was single-use plastics - mainly bags and food packaging. The density of the plastic debris (mean 4561 items/km2) in the abyssal zone was the highest recorded for an abyssal plain suggesting that the deep-sea basin in the Northwest Pacific is a significant reservoir of plastic debris.

We, here, present a biochemical study, as a continuation of a clinical trial of a cohort of 84 participants, focusing on the pleiotropic effect of the annual EVOO consumption on the fibrinolytic factors of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) patients. The levels of all these fibrinolytic factors, measured by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method, were reduced in the serum of MCI patients annually administered with EVOO, versus not treated MCI patients, as well as AD patients. The well-established AD hallmarks (Aβ1-40 and Aβ1-42 species, tau, and p-tau) of MCI patients' group, annually administered with EVOO, were restored to levels equal to those of the cognitively-healthy group; in contrast to those patients not being administered, and their AD hallmarks levels increased at the end of the year.
