Herein the authors review the field of clinical-grade NK cell expansion, explore the desirable features of an idealized NK cell expansion approach and focus on techniques used in recently published clinical trials.
There is a paucity of research investigating mental health in Para athletes. The aim of this study was to describe mental health concerns of a representative sample of South African Para athletes.
A descriptive, cross-sectional survey was conducted at the 2019 National Championships for athletes with impairments.
Mental health was measured with the Trait component of the State/Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-T), and the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K-10). Between-group differences were analysed using the Mann-Whitney U test or one-way ANOVA.
A total of 125 athletes were included. The average score for the STAI-T was 39 (±9) units, whilst a quarter (25%) of all athletes scored ≥45. The mean K-10 questionnaire score was 20 (±6) units. K-10 scores indicated that 12 % of athletes may meet formal definitions for anxiety and/or depressive disorders (score of ≥28), while 76 % of athletes have a high level of subclinical symptoms (score of ≥16). On average, females (36 ± 9) had better STAI-T scores than males (40 ± 9; p = 0.02) and married athletes (33 ± 9) had better scores than unmarried athletes (40 ± 9; p = 0.002). K-10 scores were also significantly better in married than in unmarried athletes (p = 0.002), but there was no difference between sexes. Neither the K-10 nor STAI-T was associated with level of competition, sport code or impairment type.
The study identified a high prevalence of psychological distress and anxiety among South African Para athletes, compared to the general population. There is a need to further understand factors contributing to mental health in this population.

Mediastinal lymphadenopathy is a hallmark of primary pulmonary TB (PTB) in children. We aimed to summarise available methodological and diagnostic data of transthoracic mediastinal ultrasound for childhood TB. Literature review identified two prospective and three retrospective studies, a case report, and a technical report including cases. All reported on suprasternal scanning of the mediastinum; additional parasternal scanning was reported by five studies. The proportion of children with lymphadenopathy detected by mediastinal ultrasound ranged between 15% and 85%, with studies including both supra- and parasternal scanning achieving higher detection ratios. Three retrospective studies reported mediastinal lymphadenopathy on ultrasound for most cases presenting with a normal or inconclusive CXR. Data on ultrasound for mediastinal lymphadenopathy in children are limited but indicate that mediastinal ultrasound can successfully detect mediastinal lymphadenopathy in children with TB.The treatment of syndesmotic injuries with ankle fractures is controversial. The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties of open anterior syndesmotic repair with those of screw fixation. Ten matched pairs of human cadaver specimens were subjected to open syndesmotic repair or screw fixation. Each specimen underwent initial intact physiologic loading, consisting of 10 cycles of external torsional loading with a peak torque of 7.5 Nm at 0.05 Hz. Injuries of the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament, tibiofibular interosseous membrane, and deltoid ligament were applied to each specimen. Postfixation cyclic loading consisted of 50 cycles of combined axial and external rotation loading with peak torques of 750 N and 7.5 Nm at a rate of 0.05 Hz. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/INCB18424.html After postfixation loading, each specimen underwent failure loading by external rotation at 0.25 degrees/second. Failure torque and failure angle were measured. The paired t test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used to analyze the data. Mean failure torques were 95.63 Nm in the open anterior syndesmotic repair augmented with suture-tape group and 108.61 Nm in the screw group. Mean failure angles were 34.93 degrees in the open anterior syndesmotic repair augmented with suture-tape group and 43.55 degrees in the screw group. These data were not statistically significantly different between the groups (p= .7682 and .4133, respectively). Open anterior syndesmotic repair augmented with suture tape for ankle syndesmotic injury provides similar torsional strength to that of screw fixation. Therefore, this technique can be considered as an alternative treatment option for syndesmosis injury.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients with intractable lateral malleolar bursitis who were treated using the intraoperative saline load test to find communication between the bursal sac and the ankle joint and the quilting sutures after bursectomy to reduce the dead space. We reviewed a total of 28 patients who had been treated with quilting sutures after bursectomy between April 2014 and June 2017. When there was capsular opening detected with the saline load test, it was closed with sutures or augmented with periosteum. On the final follow-up office visit, the lateral malleolus was examined for the recurrence of bursitis. Patient medical records were reviewed for postoperative wound dehiscence, skin necrosis, infections, and nerve symptoms. The saline load test was positive in 11 (42%) cases. The mean foot function index improved from 25.94 ± 20.46 to 11.73 ± 5.27 (p = .003). Fourteen (54%) patients were very satisfied with the results, 9 (35%) were satisfied, 2 (8%) rated their satisfaction as fair, and 1 (4%) was dissatisfied. No cases required skin graft or flap surgery. Intractable lateral malleolar bursitis was successfully treated using the saline load test and quilting sutures after bursectomy. Closure of the capsular opening prevented fluid drainage around the wound. Quilting sutures after bursectomy reduced dead space underneath the wound to prevent fluid accumulation and promoted healing of the skin on the underlying soft tissue.

Research on self-harming behaviors has identified emotion dysregulation, negative affect, and borderline pathology as strong risk factors of NSSI, whereas the potential protective effects of metacognitive skills such as decentering have not yet been explored. The current study combined ecological momentary assessment (EMA) and self-report measures to explore potential risk and protective factors of NSSI in a clinical group of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) patients with NSSI (N = 22), a subclinical group of college students with NSSI (N = 19), and a non-clinical healthy control group (N = 23). Participants completed self-report measures of borderline pathology, emotion dysregulation, decentering ability, and negative emotional symptoms, and they used the Sinjur App (EMA instrument) at least three times a day for 15 days to capture negative affect and NSSI in daily life. A multilevel mixed-effect regression analysis with both self-report and EMA measures was conducted to identify predictors of NSSI. The multilevel analysis showed that only momentary frustration directly predicted NSSI. Momentary guilt and anger only predicted NSSI when interacting with more stable traits of borderline pathology and negative emotional symptoms. Most importantly, greater decentering capacity protected against self-injury and attenuated the association between momentary sadness and NSSI. Findings contribute novel knowledge about NSSI, documenting the protective effects of decentering and highlighting the benefit of interventions that target metacognitive emotion regulation skills.Isolated left subclavian artery (ILSA) with right aortic arch is a rare vascular anomaly accounting for 0.8% in all right-sided aortic arch anomalies. We reviewed and summarized 50 similar cases reported in the literature over the last 30 years, in order to gain a thorough understanding of this rare anomaly.In recent years, multifunctional nanoparticles with combined diagnostic and therapeutic functions show great promise in nanomedicine. In this study, we report the environmentally friendly synthesis of fluorescent carbon nano-dots such as carbon quantum dots (CQDs) by microplasma using o-phenylenediamine. Furthermore, about 98% cells were active after the incubation with 400 μg mL-1 CQDs in the dark, which revealed the excellent biocompatibility of CQDs. Glycaemic control (GC) in intensive care unit is challenging due to significant inter- and intra-patient variability, leading to increased risk of hypoglycaemia. Recent work showed higher insulin resistance in female preterm neonates. This study aims to determine if there are differences in inter- and intra-patient metabolic variability between sexes in adults, to gain in insight into any differences in metabolic response to injury. Any significant difference would suggest GC and randomised trial design should consider sex differences to personalise care.
Insulin sensitivity (SI) levels and variability are identified from retrospective clinical data for men and women. Data are divided using 6-h blocks to capture metabolic evolution over time. In total, 91 male and 54 female patient GC episodes of minimum 24h are analysed. Hypothesis testing is used to determine whether differences are significant (P < 0.05), and equivalence testing is used to assess whether these differences can be considered equivalenlity and significantly greater insulin resistance, females can receive the same benefit from safe, effective GC as males, but may require higher insulin doses to achieve the same glycaemia. Clinical trials should consider sex differences in protocol design and outcome analyses.
This study aimed to elucidate the incidence of ocular involvement among patients with active tuberculosis (TB) or nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infection in a hospital in Japan.
Patients with active TB or NTM infection at Yoshijima Hospital from April 2017 to July 2018 were included in this retrospective study. All patients underwent ophthalmic examinations, including fundus evaluation under pupil dilation, before initiation of antibiotic therapy. Patients with ocular inflammation were regularly followed up by ophthalmologists.
In total, 101 patients with active TB and 27 patients with active NTM infection underwent ophthalmic examinations during the study period. Seven patients with TB (6.9%) had ocular inflammation; four had bilateral involvement. In these seven patients, ocular inflammation comprised anterior uveitis (n = 2), intermediate uveitis (n = 1), posterior uveitis (n = 4). Choroidal tubercles were observed in two patients with posterior uveitis. Female sex was associated with higher incidence of ocular inflammation among patients with TB.

There is currently no vaccine available and no specific medication against Coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19). The treatment is mainly based on support measures. In this context, several potentially useful therapies have been approved for use in clinical trials, such as convalescent plasma transfusion (CPT). PubMed was searched for studies on convalescent plasma and COVID-19, SARS or MERS. Studies on clinical efficacy in diseases caused by other coronaviruses (SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV) showed clinical improvement, increase of neutralizing antibodies, decreased mortality and absence of adverse events during and after treatment. We found 13 studies on this type of treatment used in patients with severe and critical COVID-19. Despite limitations regarding methodology, number of patients and the protocols for the analysis of donors' convalescent plasma, patients who received CPT showed clinical improvement, improvement of ventilatory patterns, resolution of lung injuries, decreased mortality, improvement of laboratory parameters, increase of neutralizing antibodies, decreased viral load and low frequency of adverse events.A descriptive observational study was carried out to identify the characteristics of the oncological clinical trials submitted to the Instituto Nacional de Salud del Perú during the period from 1995 to 2019. The information was obtained from the Peruvian Registry of Clinical Trials. We identified 1,996 clinical trials during the studied period, from which 470 were oncological (23.5%); 74.9% of the oncological clinical trials were mainly sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry, 61.9% were phase III and 86.2% were authorized. Regarding those authorized clinical trials, 55.6% were on chemical research products and 35.9% were on therapeutic indication for breast cancer. The most frequent study designs found were parallel arm (84.7%), randomized (85.2%) and blinded (51.0%); the most frequently used main endpoint was the objective response rate (46.7%). Mobile food vendors were observed at the end of the school day. All schools offered processed products, 73.3% sold food with octagons, and 60% displayed advertising for processed and ultraprocessed foods. Mobile food vendors were observed in 86.7% of schools, several of which were found to sell ultraprocessed products. The results suggest an unhealthy food environment both inside and outside schools, and a noncompliance with current regulations. There is currently no vaccine available and no specific medication against Coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19). The treatment is mainly based on support measures. In this context, several potentially useful therapies have been approved for use in clinical trials, such as convalescent plasma transfusion (CPT). PubMed was searched for studies on convalescent plasma and COVID-19, SARS or MERS. Studies on clinical efficacy in diseases caused by other coronaviruses (SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV) showed clinical improvement, increase of neutralizing antibodies, decreased mortality and absence of adverse events during and after treatment. We found 13 studies on this type of treatment used in patients with severe and critical COVID-19. Despite limitations regarding methodology, number of patients and the protocols for the analysis of donors' convalescent plasma, patients who received CPT showed clinical improvement, improvement of ventilatory patterns, resolution of lung injuries, decreased mortality, improvement of laboratory parameters, increase of neutralizing antibodies, decreased viral load and low frequency of adverse events.A descriptive observational study was carried out to identify the characteristics of the oncological clinical trials submitted to the Instituto Nacional de Salud del Perú during the period from 1995 to 2019. The information was obtained from the Peruvian Registry of Clinical Trials. We identified 1,996 clinical trials during the studied period, from which 470 were oncological (23.5%); 74.9% of the oncological clinical trials were mainly sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry, 61.9% were phase III and 86.2% were authorized. Regarding those authorized clinical trials, 55.6% were on chemical research products and 35.9% were on therapeutic indication for breast cancer. The most frequent study designs found were parallel arm (84.7%), randomized (85.2%) and blinded (51.0%); the most frequently used main endpoint was the objective response rate (46.7%). Mobile food vendors were observed in 86.7% of schools, several of which were found to sell ultraprocessed products. The results suggest an unhealthy food environment both inside and outside schools, and a noncompliance with current regulations. The genetic type of the Bayanerhet Formation oil shale in the Bayanjargalan mine area is an inland lacustrine oil shale deposit. Inorganic element analysis and organic geochemical testing of oil shale samples collected in three boreholes show that the Bayanerhet Formation oil shale has relatively high organic contents, e.g., average TOC values of 6.53, 7.32 and 8.84 (corresponding to oil contents of 5.49%, 6.07% and 7.50%) in boreholes BJ3807, BJ3405 and BJ3005, respectively. Analysis of organic matter sources with biomarkers indicates that lower aquatic organisms such as algae contribute more to the organic matter than higher plants do. According to research on the values of Fe2O3/FeO, Rb/Sr and w (La) n/w (Yb)n in cores from the three boreholes, the Bayanjargalan oil shale is inferred to have formed in a humid paleoclimate with a relatively high sedimentation rate. In research on the evolution of the paleoaquifer in which the oil shale formed, the values of Fe3+/Fe2+, V/V + Ni, Ni/V, Ceanom and δCe are applas deposited under such conditions. The abundant terrigenous supply under warm and humid conditions significantly promoted the primitive biological productivity, and the weak redox saltwater environment had relatively high productivity. All the favorable conditions promoted the formation of high-quality oil shale.This current research is based on a bio-inspired procedure for the synthesis of biomolecule functionalized hybrid magnetic nanocomposite with the Fe3O4 NPs at core and Pd NPs at outer shell. The central idea was the initial modification of magnetic NP by the phytochemicals from Fritillaria imperialis flower extract, which was further exploited in the green reduction of Pd2+ ions into Pd NPs, in situ. The flower extract also acted as a capping agent for the obtained Pd/Fe3O4 composite without the need of additional toxic reagents. The as-synthesized Fe3O4@Fritillaria/Pd nanocomposite was methodically characterized over different physicochemical measures like FT-IR, ICP-AES, FESEM, EDX, TEM, XPS and VSM analysis. Thereafter, its catalytic potential was evaluated in the reduction of various nitrobenzenes to arylamines applying hydrazine hydrate as reductant in ethanol/water (12) medium under mild conditions. Furthermore, the nanocatalyst was retrieved using a bar magnet and recycled several times without considerable leaching or loss of activity. As no efficient cure for cartilage lesions exist yet, cartilage tissue engineering has emerged as a promising method aiming at repairing joint defects and restoring articular function. In the present work, we investigated if a new self-assembling peptide (referred as IEIK13), combined with articular chondrocytes treated with a chondrogenic cocktail (BMP-2, insulin and T3, designated BIT) could be efficient to restore full-thickness cartilage defects induced in the femoral condyles of a non-human primate model, the cynomolgus monkey. First, in vitro molecular studies indicated that IEIK13 was efficient to support production of cartilage by monkey articular chondrocytes treated with BIT. In vivo, cartilage implant integration was monitored non-invasively by contrast-enhanced micro-computed tomography, and then by post-mortem histological analysis and immunohistochemical staining of the condyles collected 3 months post-implantation. Our results revealed that the full-thickness cartilage injuries treated with either IEIK13 implants loaded with or devoid of chondrocytes showed similar cartilage-characteristic regeneration. The genetic type of the Bayanerhet Formation oil shale in the Bayanjargalan mine area is an inland lacustrine oil shale deposit. Inorganic element analysis and organic geochemical testing of oil shale samples collected in three boreholes show that the Bayanerhet Formation oil shale has relatively high organic contents, e.g., average TOC values of 6.53, 7.32 and 8.84 (corresponding to oil contents of 5.49%, 6.07% and 7.50%) in boreholes BJ3807, BJ3405 and BJ3005, respectively. Analysis of organic matter sources with biomarkers indicates that lower aquatic organisms such as algae contribute more to the organic matter than higher plants do. According to research on the values of Fe2O3/FeO, Rb/Sr and w (La) n/w (Yb)n in cores from the three boreholes, the Bayanjargalan oil shale is inferred to have formed in a humid paleoclimate with a relatively high sedimentation rate. In research on the evolution of the paleoaquifer in which the oil shale formed, the values of Fe3+/Fe2+, V/V + Ni, Ni/V, Ceanom and δCe are applas deposited under such conditions. The abundant terrigenous supply under warm and humid conditions significantly promoted the primitive biological productivity, and the weak redox saltwater environment had relatively high productivity. First, in vitro molecular studies indicated that IEIK13 was efficient to support production of cartilage by monkey articular chondrocytes treated with BIT. Admiration and rivalry showed distinct associations with criminal history, institutional misbehaviors, and social status in the group of prisoners. Epigenetic alterations may contribute to early detection of cancer. We evaluated the association of blood DNA methylation with lymphatic-hematopoietic cancers and, for comparison, with solid cancers. We also evaluated the predictive ability of DNA methylation for lymphatic-hematopoietic cancers.
Blood DNA methylation was measured using the Illumina Infinium methylationEPIC array in 2324 Strong Heart Study participants (41.4% men, mean age 56years). 788,368 CpG sites were available for differential DNA methylation analysis for lymphatic-hematopoietic, solid and overall cancers using elastic-net and Cox regression models. We conducted replication in an independent population the Framingham Heart Study. We also analyzed differential variability and conducted bioinformatic analyses to assess for potential biological mechanisms.
Over a follow-up of up to 28years (mean 15), we identified 41 lymphatic-hematopoietic and 394 solid cancer cases. A total of 126 CpGs for lymphatic-hematopoietic cancers, 396 for solhematopoietic cancers.

The functional abnormality of the hippocampus is known to be implicated in the development of such pathology. Peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6) belongs to the peroxiredoxin family. This antioxidant enzyme is expressed throughout the brain, including the hippocampus. Recent evidence reveals that PRDX6 plays an important role in redox regulation and the modulation of several signaling molecules involved in fear regulation. Thus, we hypothesized that PRDX6 plays a role in the regulation of fear memory. We subjected a systemic Prdx6 knockout (Prdx6-/-) **** to trace fear conditioning and observed enhanced fear response after training. Intraventricular injection of lentivirus-carried mouse Prdx6 into the 3rd ventricle reduced the enhanced fear response in these knockout ****. Proteomic analysis followed by validation of western blot analysis revealed that several proteins in the MAPK pathway, such as NTRK2, AKT, and phospho-ERK1/2, cPLA2 were significantly upregulated in the hippocampus of Prdx6-/- **** during the retrieval stage of contextual fear memory. The distribution of PRDX6 found in the astrocytes was also observed throughout the hippocampus. This study identifies PRDX6 as a participant in the regulation of fear response. It suggests that PRDX6 and related molecules may have important implications for understanding fear-dysregulation associated disorders like PTSD.
Concurrent thoracic radiation plus chemotherapy is the mainstay of first-line treatment for limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC). Despite initial high responsiveness to combined chemo- and radiotherapy, SCLC almost invariably relapses and develops resistance within one year, leading to poor prognosis in patients with LS-SCLC. Developing new chemical agents that increase ionizing radiation's cytotoxicity against SCLC is urgently needed.
Dual histone deacetylase (HDAC) and PI3K inhibitor FK228 not only displayed potent anticancer activity, but also enhanced the therapeutic effects of radiotherapy in SCLC cells. Mechanistically, radioresistant SCLC cells exhibit a lower level of histone H3K9 acetylation and a higher expression level of the MRE11-RAD50-NBS1 (MRN) complex and show more efficient and redundant DNA damage repair capacities than radiosensitive SCLC cells. FK228 pretreatment resulted in marked induction of H3k9 acetylation, attenuated homologous recombination (HR) repair competency and impaired non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) repair efficacy, leading to the accumulation of radiation-induced DNA damage and radiosensitization.

Trimethylation of lysine 27 and dimethylation of lysine 9 of histone-H3 catalyzed by the histone methyltransferases EZH2 and G9a impede gene transcription in cancer. Our human bronchial epithelial (HBEC) pre-malignancy model studied the role of these histone modifications in transformation. Tobacco carcinogen transformed HBEC lines were characterized for cytosine DNA methylation, transcriptome reprogramming, and the effect of inhibiting EZH2 and G9a on the transformed phenotype. The effects of targeting EZH2 and G9a on lung cancer prevention was assessed in the A/J mouse lung tumor model.
Carcinogen exposure induced transformation and DNA methylation of 12-96 genes in the four HBEC transformed (T) lines that was perpetuated in malignant tumors. In contrast, 506 unmethylated genes showed reduced expression in one or more HBECTs with many becoming methylated in tumors. ChIP-on-chip for HBEC2T identified 327 and 143 genes enriched for H3K27me3 and H3K9me2. Treatment of HBEC2T and HBEC13T with DZNep, a lysine methyltransferase inhibitor depleted EZH2, reversed transformation, and induced transcriptional reprogramming.

The functional abnormality of the hippocampus is known to be implicated in the development of such pathology. Peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6) belongs to the peroxiredoxin family. This antioxidant enzyme is expressed throughout the brain, including the hippocampus. Recent evidence reveals that PRDX6 plays an important role in redox regulation and the modulation of several signaling molecules involved in fear regulation. Thus, we hypothesized that PRDX6 plays a role in the regulation of fear memory. We subjected a systemic Prdx6 knockout (Prdx6-/-) mice to trace fear conditioning and observed enhanced fear response after training. Intraventricular injection of lentivirus-carried mouse Prdx6 into the 3rd ventricle reduced the enhanced fear response in these knockout mice. Proteomic analysis followed by validation of western blot analysis revealed that several proteins in the MAPK pathway, such as NTRK2, AKT, and phospho-ERK1/2, cPLA2 were significantly upregulated in the hippocampus of Prdx6-/- mice during the retrieval stage of contextual fear memory. The distribution of PRDX6 found in the astrocytes was also observed throughout the hippocampus. This study identifies PRDX6 as a participant in the regulation of fear response. By understanding and clarifying these defenses, this risk of subsequent misalliance, that is negative shifts or ruptures in the alliance, are minimized. In this paper we summarize ISTDP theory and technique through the use of clinical vignettes to illustrate defense management as a rupture-repair equivalent in ISTDP.

Cohort of 140 patients with chronic periodontitis receiving non-surgical treatment consisting of scaling, root surface debridement and instruction in plaque control. Participants self-completed questionnaires enquiring about sense of coherence, locus of control, self-esteem and task-specific self-efficacy before treatment, and the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 before treatment, at oral hygiene review and end of study. Relationships among OHRQoL, clinical changes, individual factors (demographic and psychological) and environmental characteristics were analysed using latent growth curve modelling guided by the Wilson and Cleary model.
OHRQoL and periodontal status improved after treatment. Being male and having a greater sense of coherence predicted better OHRQoL before treatment. Stronger internal dimension of locus of control predicted a greater rate of improvement in OHRQoL, whereas greater external dimensions predicted a slower rate of improvement. Greater task-specific self-efficacy predicted less gains in probing attachment and reductions in probing depth.
Knowledge of psychological factors may be helpful in explaining individual differences in OHRQoL and clinical responses to periodontal treatment, and in identifying where health-promoting interventions may strengthen relevant factors to improve these outcomes.

To compare the efficacy and safety of oral sulfate solution administered using the same-day dose and the split-dose regimens with those of polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate solution, used for bowel preparation in Japanese patients undergoing colonoscopy.
This multicenter (n=13), randomized, active-controlled, colonoscopist- and image evaluator-blinded, noninferiority study with parallel-group comparison recruited 632 patients from December 2018 to June 2019. Of these, 602 patients were divided into the oral sulfate solution same-day dose group (n=200); oral sulfate solution split-dose group (n=202); and polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate same-day dose group (n=200). Differences in the efficacy rates between the polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate group and each oral sulfate solution group were calculated using the asymptotic method. The safety of the oral sulfate solution was evaluated, based on the occurrence of adverse events and reactions.
Both oral sulfate solution protocols were confirmed as noninferior to the polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate protocol for bowel-cleansing. The occurrence of adverse reactions was significantly lower in the oral sulfate solution same-day dose group than in the polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate group (P=0.010). The occurrence of adverse reactions was not significantly different between the oral sulfate solution split-dose and the polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate group.

The Special Care Dentistry (SCD) undergraduate program increasingly aims to address student attitudes toward people with disabilities (PWD). One of the efforts made by the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya (FODUM), is to introduce Disability Equality Training (DET) as part of the learning activity in the SCD curriculum. This study aimed to explore students' perception about the DET program.
This was a qualitative research project exploring students' perception toward DET in 2 cohorts of third-year dental students from FODUM (n=100). The reflection notes were analyzed using Luborsky's method of thematic analysis. Identification of themes was based on statements that were most frequently reported by students.
The majority of the students gave positive feedback for the training, which includes enhanced knowledge, attitudes, and skills about treating PWD. They also reflected that the DET improved their understanding of social and professional responsibility. In terms of learning experience, many reported that the training was useful and enjoyable.
