  • Due to the observed biofilm attributes, low fluence UV-LED in situ treatment of the feed stream seems to be a promising technology for biofouling control.Garcinoic acid has been identified as an inhibitor of DNA polymerase β (pol β). However, no structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies of garcinoic acid as a pol β inhibitor have been conducted, in part due to the lack of an efficient synthetic method for this natural product and its analogs. We developed an efficient semi-synthetic method for garcinoic acid and its analogs by starting from natural product δ-tocotrienol. The spinal examination was implemented at National Instruments Corporations' Hungarian subsidiary, Debrecen in October, 2015, involving 95 white-collar employees as volunteers to assess spinal posture and functional movements. Data from the physical examination of 91 subjects (age 34.22 ± 7.97 years) were analyzed. Results showed significant differences (p less then 0.05) in posture and mobility of the spinal regions in sitting compared to standing position. Significant positive correlations were observed between values measured in standing and sitting positions in all observed regions and aspects of the spine (p less then 0.05) except posture of lumbar extension (p = 0.07) and mobility of sacrum/hip in E-F (p = 0.818). Significant (p less then 0.001) difference (5.70°) was found between the spinal inclination in sitting 6.47 ± 3.55° compared to standing 0.77 ± 2.53 position. Sitting position has a negative effect on the posture and mobility of the spine among white-collar employees. The SpinalMouse can be used effectively to determine spinal posture and mobility in cross-sectional studies and impact analysis of physical exercise interventions.Zika virus (ZIKV) is a flavivirus that originated in Africa but emerged in Latin America in 2015. The cross-linked chitosan/starch membrane was revealed to have high mechanical properties with an asymmetric structure. The prepared membrane's performance was investigated as an FO filter assembled in a polypropylene water filter bag and aluminum foil plastic. In order to study the FO process, brackish water was used as a feed solution, drawn using three types of solution (fructose, sucrose, and fructose/sucrose mixture, each with 3 M concentration). The maximum water flux (5.75 L/m2 h) was achieved using 3 M sucrose. The cross-linked membrane restrained the ions in the feed with a rejection factor value close to 100%. The water quality parameters were evaluated for the physical, chemical, and biological criteria, such as pH, salinity, conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), heavy metals, and Escherichia coli content. The water quality parameters for the FO-processed water met that set by the World Health Organization for drinking water. FO filter bags with cross-linked chitosan/starch membranes can be an option to produce drinking water during an emergency.Implant therapy is a predictable treatment to replace missing teeth. However, the osseointegration process may be negatively influenced by systemic conditions, such as diabetes mellitus (DM). Microtopography and implant surface developments are strategies associated to better bone repair. Mini implants (machined = MAC; double acid etched = DAE, and with addition of nano-hydroxyapatite = NANO) were installed in tibias of healthy and diabetic rats. The animals were euthanized at 7 and 30 days. NANO surface presented higher %****and %BAFO when compared to ****and DAE (data evaluated as a function of implant surface). NANO surface presented higher %****and %BAFO, with statistically significant differences (data as a function of time and implant surface).

  • This study aimed to investigate the relationship between endogenous antioxidant system, 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine adduct (8-OHdG) repair, and apoptosis in **** treated with chromium(VI) alone and in the presence of the antigenotoxic compound (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Groups of 5 HsdICR male **** were divided and treated as follows (1) control, vehicle only; (2) EGCG, 8.5 mg/kg by gavage alone; (3) CrO3, 20 mg/kg intraperitoneally alone; and (4) EGCG combined with CrO3, EGCG was administered 4 hr prior to CrO3. Peripheral blood parameters were analyzed before treatment administration (time 0), and 48 hr after exposure. The administration of EGCG increased 8-OHdG levels and superoxide dismutase (***) activity. Treatment with CrO3 increased number of micronucleus (MN) presence, elevated apoptotic/necrotic cells frequencies, decreased 8-OHdG levels, diminished total antioxidant capacity (TAC), increased glutathione (GSH) total levels, and lowered *** activity. Administration of EGCG prior to treatment with CrO3 resulted in lower concentrations of MN, reduced apoptotic and necrotic cell number, and restored TAC and *** activity to control levels. It is conceivable that the dose of EGCG plays an important role in the genotoxic damage protection pathways. Thus, this study confirms the action of EGCG as an antigenotoxic agent against chromium(VI)-induced oxidative insults and demonstrates potential protective pathways for EGCG actions to counteract genotoxic damage induced by this metal.
    Research suggests that patients with Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (pwFND) struggle to identify their own emotions and associated physiological cues (interoceptive sensitivity, IS). However, it is not known how this deficit interacts with stress. This study aimed to assess IS in pwFND at baseline and following stress induction, and relate the findings to self-reported emotion processing difficulties.

    Twenty-six pwFND and 27 healthy controls performed the Heart Beat Detection Task pre- and post-stress induction with the Cold Pressor Test. Participants also completed questionnaires assessing anxiety (GAD-7) and depressive symptomology (PHQ-9), as well as emotion processing (EPS-25).

     = .032) than healthy controls. IS improved following stress induction across both groups (

    Our findings suggest that pwFND are relatively impaired in the identification of their emotions at baseline and following stress induction. This may be related to the experience of functional sensory symptoms and has implications for the psychological treatment of emotion dysregulation in this population.

Gastrointestinal complications, in particular, tend to have high rates of reintervention and mortality following cardiac surgery, with ischemia and hemorrhage being two of the commonest underlying causes. The intention of this review is to identify which risk factors play important roles in predisposing patients to such complications and to gain better insight into the pathogenesis of the sequelae. Furthermore, strategies for prevention have been discussed to educate and increase awareness of how adverse cardiac surgical outcomes can be minimized.

Hence, the mechanism and biological regulation of CR might be reflected through these epigenetic alterations, but future research will need to address the causal relationships.It is meaningful to assess the risk of cancer incidence among patients with precancerous colorectal lesions. Comparing the within-sample relative expression orderings (REOs) of colorectal cancer patients measured by multiple platforms with that of normal colorectal tissues, a qualitative transcriptional signature consisting of 1,840 gene pairs was identified in the training data. Within an evaluation dataset of 16 active and 18 inactive (remissive) ulcerative colitis subjects, the median incidence risk score of colorectal carcinoma was 0.6402 in active ulcerative colitis subjects, significantly higher than that in remissive subjects (0.3114). Evaluation of two other independent datasets yielded similar results. Moreover, we found that the score significantly positively correlated with the degree of dysplasia in the case of colorectal adenomas. In the merged dataset, the median incidence risk score was 0.9027 among high-grade adenoma samples, significantly higher than that among low-grade adenomas (0.8565). Within an evaluation dataset of 16 active and 18 inactive (remissive) ulcerative colitis subjects, the median incidence risk score of colorectal carcinoma was 0.6402 in active ulcerative colitis subjects, significantly higher than that in remissive subjects (0.3114). Evaluation of two other independent datasets yielded similar results. Moreover, we found that the score significantly positively correlated with the degree of dysplasia in the case of colorectal adenomas. In the merged dataset, the median incidence risk score was 0.9027 among high-grade adenoma samples, significantly higher than that among low-grade adenomas (0.8565). A majority (n = 37/54, 68.5%) of the fire chiefs indicated their department had an established health and wellness program. Most fire chiefs reported using established guidelines, education, and a supportive culture to promote prevention and reporting. The cultural stigma of being a firefighter and fear of repercussions were barriers to the promotion of reporting of illness and injury. Fire chiefs stated that they struggled to find ways to effectively promote reporting and prevention strategies.

    A link between headaches and dizziness suggests that these individuals would demonstrate dizziness and instability in complex, dynamic visual environments as a result of an inability to correctly process conflicting visual and vestibular signals.

    A convenience sample of 74 patients (22 men and 52 women; average age 56.2 years) who presented with complaints of dizziness participated. Effects of Visual-Vestibular Mismatch (VVM) were measured using a modified VVM questionnaire. Visual dependence was measured as the error to subjective visual vertical using a computerized Rod and Frame test.

    Forty-two participants (56.8%) tested positive for VVM. Of these, 68.9%were patients with concomitant complaints of headaches. Visual dependence was present in 41.5%of all patients but showed no significant correlation with headache. 22.2%of patients had visual dependence and complained of headaches.

The diagnosis of SCDS therefore requires a combination of A) at least one symptom consistent with SCDS and attributable to 'third mobile window' pathophysiology including 1) hyperacusis to bone conducted sound, 2) sound-induced vertigo and/or oscillopsia time-locked to the stimulus, 3) pressure-induced vertigo and/or oscillopsia time-locked to the stimulus, or 4) pulsatile tinnitus; B) at least 1 physiologic test or sign indicating that a 'third mobile window' is transmitting pressure including 1) eye movements in the plane of the affected superior semicircular canal when sound or pressure is applied to the affected ear, 2) low-frequency negative bone conduction thresholds on pure tone audiometry, or 3) enhanced vestibular-evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) responses (low cervical VEMP thresholds or elevated ocular VEMP amplitudes); and C) high resolution computed tomography (CT) scan with multiplanar reconstruction in the plane of the superior semicircular canal consistent with a dehiscence. The shear force of all specimens was tested using a universal testing machine with a 0.5 mm/min crosshead speed. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's post hoc pair wise comparisonwas the main problem of failure in altered zirconia. The modified zirconia specimens in Group III demonstrated significantly improved values of shear bond strength.

The explosion effect was discussed by examining the shock wave stress flow pattern. Three points were selected on the skull and the stress curve of each point position were illustrated for each case study.

    To investigate the utility of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the diagnostic procedure of IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD), we analysed the association between quantitative method of 18F-FDG PET/CT and histological findings.

    Twenty-one patients with IgG4-RD in whom 18F-FDG PET/CT was performed at the time of diagnosis were enrolled. Tissue biopsy was performed at 24 sites in 21 patients. To perform quantitative analysis of 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging, the highest standardised uptake value (SUV) of the pixels (SUVmax) and the average SUV (SUVmean) within the biopsied lesion were measured. The SUVmean of the liver was also measured as a reference.

    The mean age at diagnosis was 64.6±11.9 years, and the median serum IgG4 level was 650 mg/dl. Histological findings were consistent with IgG4-RD (histopathology-positive) at 19 out of 24 sites. Although there was no significant difference in the values of SUVmax between histopathology-positive and histopathology-negative tissues, the values of SUVmean were significantly higher in the histopathology-positive tissue (4.98 and 3.54, respectively p<0.05). The values of SUVmean/liver were also higher in the histopathology-positive tissue (2.17 and 1.52, respectively p<0.05). To establish a cut-off value of SUVmean to determine which of multiple lesions should be biopsied, a ROC curve was constructed. ROC curve analysis indicated SUVmean=4.07 or SUVmean/liver=1.66 as a cut-off value.

However, survey studies designed to measure the expected increase in overall alcohol consumption in southern Sweden failed to detect a meaningful change.     Using monthly sales at the provincial level covering Jan 1997-Dec 2005 for beer and spirits, we employed a fixed-effect panel design. Two models were examined (i) a model investigating the relationship between distance, petrol prices and alcohol sales before the liberalization, and (ii) a model investigating this relationshir that event, surveys did not detect the widely expected increase in self-reported alcohol consumption.This study quantifies the extent socioeconomic status (SES) affects hospital utilization and adverse hospital events of chronic disease patients. After identifying the initial first-year spell of the disease, we examine six outcomes that include measures of utilization and incidence of adverse in-hospital events. Three years of hospital administrative data from the state of Victoria, Australia, are used to extract a sample of 237,743 patients with chronic disease spells. SES is measured using the utilization records of specific health and human services. The study finds that, compared to patients with no disadvantage, SES disadvantaged patients tend to incur higher hospital costs and longer utilization by about 20% and greater incidence of in-hospital adverse outcomes by up to 80% than non-disadvantaged patients. Further analysis shows that hospital adverse outcomes indirectly contribute to about a quarter of the observed difference in hospital costs between SES disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged patients.Bovine rotavirus A (RVA) and bovine coronavirus (CoV) are the two main viral enteropathogens associated with neonatal calf diarrhea. Eleven calves reared in individual housing (FA) and nine calves in group housing (FB) were monitored during the first 7 weeks of life. Stool and serum samples were screened for RVA and CoV antigens by ELISA. IgG1 antibodies (Ab) to both antigens were also measured. From the 160 fecal samples collected, the proportion of positive samples to RVA and CoV was significantly higher in FB (23.6%) than in FA (9%) (p = 0.03). The geometric mean of colostral IgG1 Ab titers to CoV and RVA in FA (IgG1 anti-CoV 1024 and anti-RVA 1782.9) was lower than in FB (IgG1 anti-CoV 10,321.2 and anti-RVA 4096) at birth. Calves less than 2 weeks of life from FB had a higher risk of being infected by RVA (OR = 4.9; p = 0.01) and CoV (OR = 17.15; p = 0.01) than calves from FA.

  • Background Mechanical power output is recognized as a critical characteristic of an athlete with regard to superior performance during a competition. It seems fully justified that ballistic exercises, in which the external load is projected into a flight phase, as in the bench press throw (BPT), are the most commonly prescribed exercises for the development of power output. In addition, the muscular phenomenon known as post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE), which is an acute improvement in strength and power performance as a result of recent voluntary contractile history, has become the focus of many strength and conditioning training programs. Although the PAPE phenomenon is widely used in the upper-body training regimens, there are still several issues regarding training variables that facilitate the greatest increase in power output and need to be resolved. Objective The purposes of this meta-analysis were to determine the effect of performing a conditioning activity (CA) on subsequent BPT performr effect than a multiple set (ES = 0.29). Moderate rest intervals induced a slightly greater PAPE effect for intensity below 85% 1RM (5-7 min, ES = 0.48) than shorter (0.15-4 min, ES = 0.4) and longer (≥8 min, ES = 0.36) intra-complex rest intervals. Considering an intensity above 85% 1RM during the CA, a moderate rest interval resulted in a similar PAPE effect (5-7 min, ES = 0.3) compared with longer (8 min, ES = 0.29) intra-complex rest interval, whereas shorter rest intervals resulted in a negative effect on BPT performance (0.15-4 min, ES = -0.13). Conclusion The presented meta-analysis shows that performing a CA induces a small PAPE effect for the BPT performance in resistance-trained men. Individuals seeking to improve their BPT performance should consider preceding them with a single set of the BP exercise at moderate intensity (60-84% 1RM), performed 5-7 min before the explosive activity.Severe cold exercise involves the irisin response, and may be related to body composition. We aimed to investigate changes in circulating irisin after ice swimming (IS), as well as to evaluate the correlation between body composition and the change in irisin caused by IS (Δirisin). 81 ice swimmers were recruited to perform IS activities. Blood samples were drawn 30 min before and 30 min after IS, and the serum levels of irisin and the ice swimmers' body composition were measured. As results, circulating irisin declined significantly during the recovery period following IS exercise (P less then 0.001). The afternoon baseline circulating irisin level and Δirisin in response to IS were correlated with body fat characteristics rather than muscle parameters in ice swimmers. Δirisin subgroup analyses showed that the Δirisin ascending group (Δirisin+) subjects had a higher fat composition and higher basal irisin levels than the Δirisin descending group (Δirisin-). Furthermore, the decrease in irisin was negatively correlated with fat components in Δirisin- subjects, whereas no correlation was observed between the increase in irisin and body composition in Δirisin + subjects. Finally, a non-linear association analysis suggested that body fat indicators had obvious curvilinear relationships with Δirisin. The aim of this report is to compare both oxygen intake (VO2) and heart rate (HR) reached at the first ventilatory threshold (VT1), a well-established delimiter of low intensity exercise, to those derived from a predefined DFA a1 transitional value. Gas exchange and HRV data were obtained from 15 participants during an incremental treadmill run. Comparison of both VO2 and HR reached at VT1 defined by gas exchange (VT1 GAS) was made to those parameters derived from analysis of DFA a1 reaching a value of 0.75 (HRVT). Based on Bland Altman analysis, linear regression, intraclass correlation (ICC) and t testing, there was strong agreement between VT1 GAS and HRVT as measured by both HR and VO2. Mean VT1 GAS was reached at 39.8 ml/kg/min with a HR of 152 bpm compared to mean HRVT which was reached at 40.1 ml/kg/min with a HR of 154 bpm. Strong linear relationships were seen between test modalities, with Pearson's r values of 0.99 (p less then 0.001) and.97 (p less then 0.001) for VO2 and HR comparisons, respectively. Intraclass correlation between VT1 GAS and HRVT was 0.99 for VO2 and 0.96 for HR. In addition, comparison of VT1 GAS and HRVT showed no differences by t testing, also supporting the method validity. In conclusion, it appears that reaching a DFA a1 value of 0.75 on an incremental treadmill test is closely associated with crossing the first ventilatory threshold. The dynamic O-information, here introduced, allows to separate multiplets of variables which influence synergistically the future of the system from redundant multiplets. We apply this framework to a dataset of spiking neurons from a monkey performing a perceptual discrimination task. We aimed to investigate changes in circulating irisin after ice swimming (IS), as well as to evaluate the correlation between body composition and the change in irisin caused by IS (Δirisin). 81 ice swimmers were recruited to perform IS activities. Blood samples were drawn 30 min before and 30 min after IS, and the serum levels of irisin and the ice swimmers' body composition were measured. As results, circulating irisin declined significantly during the recovery period following IS exercise (P less then 0.001). The afternoon baseline circulating irisin level and Δirisin in response to IS were correlated with body fat characteristics rather than muscle parameters in ice swimmers. Δirisin subgroup analyses showed that the Δirisin ascending group (Δirisin+) subjects had a higher fat composition and higher basal irisin levels than the Δirisin descending group (Δirisin-). Furthermore, the decrease in irisin was negatively correlated with fat components in Δirisin- subjects, whereas no correlation was observed between the increase in irisin and body composition in Δirisin + subjects. Finally, a non-linear association analysis suggested that body fat indicators had obvious curvilinear relationships with Δirisin. The aim of this report is to compare both oxygen intake (VO2) and heart rate (HR) reached at the first ventilatory threshold (VT1), a well-established delimiter of low intensity exercise, to those derived from a predefined DFA a1 transitional value. Gas exchange and HRV data were obtained from 15 participants during an incremental treadmill run. Comparison of both VO2 and HR reached at VT1 defined by gas exchange (VT1 GAS) was made to those parameters derived from analysis of DFA a1 reaching a value of 0.75 (HRVT). Based on Bland Altman analysis, linear regression, intraclass correlation (ICC) and t testing, there was strong agreement between VT1 GAS and HRVT as measured by both HR and VO2. Mean VT1 GAS was reached at 39.8 ml/kg/min with a HR of 152 bpm compared to mean HRVT which was reached at 40.1 ml/kg/min with a HR of 154 bpm. Strong linear relationships were seen between test modalities, with Pearson's r values of 0.99 (p less then 0.001) and.97 (p less then 0.001) for VO2 and HR comparisons, respectively. The dynamic O-information, here introduced, allows to separate multiplets of variables which influence synergistically the future of the system from redundant multiplets. We apply this framework to a dataset of spiking neurons from a monkey performing a perceptual discrimination task.   • To quantify the survival impact of prolongation of definitive radiotherapy (RT) for head and neck cancer in a national, modern cohort, and to identify predictive factors for prolongation.

    The National Cancer Database was queried for adults with non-metastatic cancer of the nasopharynx, oropharynx, larynx, or hypopharynx diagnosed 2004-2015, treated with definitive RT to 66-70Gy in 30-35 fractions at 2-2.2Gy per fraction. Multivariable Cox regression and propensity score matching were used to model the survival impact of RT prolongation, adjusting for potential confounders such as age and comorbidity. Predictors of RT prolongation were identified using multivariable multinomial logistic regression.

    In total, 36,367 patients were identified. As a continuous variable, RT prolongation increased the relative hazard of death by 2% per day (P<.0001). In the matched cohorts, patients with short (4-8days) or long prolongation (>8 days) had lower absolute 4-year overall survival by 4% and 12%, respectively (P<.0001), while prolongation of 1-3days was not significantly adverse. Major predictors of increased risk of prolongation were administration of systemic therapy, baseline comorbidity, lack of private insurance, and tumor/nodal stage. Conversely, higher facility volume was significantly protective, with a 55% lower risk of long prolongation within the topmost quartile (>11.5 patients/year).

Four case studies are provided as examples of programs integrated into current HP student and post-graduate training programs.Numerous guidelines and recommendations reinforce the important role of healthcare providers promoting physical activity (PA) through assessment, prescription, and referral. This paper summarizes what is required to accomplish these actions as a standard of care. The sections describe the importance of measurement development and standardization, the integration of PA into the care continuum, suggested roles and responsibilities for the healthcare team, the role of technology and telehealth in promoting PA, connecting patients to different PA modalities and settings, a summary of the overall regulatory and policy plan to accomplish integration of PA into delivery of care, and areas for future research. Integrating PA assessment, prescription, and referral into delivery of care requires a multi-stakeholder, coordinated effort with government agencies, payers, non-governmental organizations, professional societies, the United States Congress, state legislatures, healthcare systems, and the healthcare industry.Schizophrenia is a neurodevelopmental disorder which is expressed in the form of disturbed behaviour and abnormal mental functions. Aripiprazole was encapsulated in biocompatible polycaprolactone microsphere by o/w emulsion solvent-evaporation method in order to achieve sustained release of the drug for several weeks after single subcutaneous administration. They were optimised on the basis of various parameters such as physical appearance, particle size (49.4 μm-387.1 μm), encapsulation efficiency (70%-95%), percentage yield (33%-75%) and drug loading (25.9%-47.5%). The surface topography and sphericity of the microspheres was determined by scanning electron microscopy which revealed that the microspheres formed were spherical and non-porous in nature. The in vitro releases from the selected formulations were found to be 87% and 95% respectively after 45 days of dissolution. In vivo efficacy of optimised formulation showed significantly (p less then 0.05) amelioration of various positive, negative and cognitive symptoms associated with schizophrenia and oxidative stress markers in ketamine-induced schizophrenia model in rats for 30 days.

  • l allows observation of conditions associated with nasal mucosa removal and evaluation of the effectiveness of cell therapy.Following intensive efforts since their discovery little more than 10 years ago, cell replacement therapy using induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells is now becoming reality. However, there remain several obstacles in the translation of basic research to clinical application, obstacles known as the "Valley of Death". With regards to regenerative medicine using iPS cells for Parkinson's disease, we have developed a method for the 1) efficient induction of dopaminergic neurons from human iPS cells and 2) sorting dopaminergic progenitor cells using a floor plate marker, CORIN. The grafted CORIN+ cells survived well and functioned as midbrain dopaminergic neurons in the Parkinson's disease model rats and monkeys, and showed minimal risk of tumor formation. Based on these results, we performed a pre-clinical study using a clinical-grade iPS cell line and finally started a clinical trial to treat Parkinson's disease patients in August 2018. Here, I discuss the key issues to crossing the Valley of Death scientific rationale, pre-clinical study, and clinical trial.We have been conducting research on esophageal regenerative therapy using cell sheet technology. In particular, in the endoscopic field, we have pushed forward clinical research on endoscopic transplantation of cultured autologous oral mucosal epithelial cell sheets to esophageal ulcer after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). We started research in this direction using animal models in 2004 and performed clinical research in 2012 in collaboration with Nagasaki University and Karolinska Institute. Although in full-circumferential cases it was difficult to prevent esophageal stricture after ESD, there were no complications and stricture could be suppressed. The cell sheet technology is still in its infancy. However, we are convinced that it has a high potential for application in various areas of gastrointestinal science. In this review, we focus on the pre-clinical and clinical trial results obtained and on the theoretical aspects of (1) stricture prevention, (2) esophageal tissue engineering research, and (3) endoscopic transplantation, and review the esophageal regenerative therapy by cell sheet technology.The endocannabinoid system is involved in the regulation of the stress response, but the relative contribution of N-arachidonoylethanolamine (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) and their mechanisms have to be elucidated. In this study, we compared the effects of the pharmacological inhibition of the two major endocannabinoid-degrading enzymes [fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) and monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) for AEA and 2-AG, respectively] on stress-coping [forced swim test (FST) and tail suspension test (TST)] and anxiety-like [elevated-plus maze (EPM) and light-dark test (LDT)] behaviors in wild-type and FAAH knockout ****. In vivo microdialysis estimated the effects of FAAH and MAGL inhibition on dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5-HT) levels in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) during an FST. **** were treated with PF-3845 (FAAH inhibitor), JZL184 (MAGL inhibitor), JZL195 (dual FAAH/MAGL inhibitor) or vehicle. Here, using whole-cell recordings in rat brain slices, we find that a single exposure to 2-h immobilization stress leads to an increase, 10 days later, in the frequency of miniature excitatory postsynaptic currents (mEPSCs) recorded from lateral amygdala (LA) principal neurons in male rats. Capnocytophaga infections are an emerging zoonotic disease that can cause fatal systemic infections in immunocompromised individuals. Localized ocular Capnocytophaga infections, including keratitis, blepharitis, and endophthalmitis, can lead to severe eye threatening situations. To our knowledge, there is currently no documented case of Capnocytophaga canimorsus blebitis with bleb perforation after trabeculectomy.

    Our case report and literature review features a novel case of Capnocytophaga blebitis that occurred after trabeculectomy, associated with close dog contact (i.e. face licking). The patient had underwent trabeculectomy 10 years prior and presented with conjunctival injection, perforated bleb, and hypotony. Overall, patient was medically treated subconjunctival vancomycin, gentamicin and moxifloxacin drops. Trabeculectomy revision was performed with good visual outcome. Bacterial cultures grew Capnocytophaga canimorsus.

    Influenza is a global health threat to older adults, and the influenza vaccine is the most effective approach to prevent influenza infection. However, influenza vaccination coverage among Chinese older adults is far less than in developed countries such as the United States (4.0% vs. 64.9%). This study aims to increase influenza vaccination coverage in Chinese adults ≥60 years using a video-led educational intervention conducted by medical students.

    A cluster randomized controlled trial will be conducted in 4 districts of Xi'an city, Shaanxi Province, China, using a stratified sampling approach. Adults aged ≥60 years will be recruited from 8 community hospitals. A self-administered questionnaire of knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) will be employed to record the KAP score. During the 6-month interventional period, participants in the intervention group will receive educational videos focused on influenza and influenza vaccination, coupled with a group discussion conducted by the medical students. For those in the control group, no intervention will be provided. The outcomes measured in both groups will be the influenza vaccination coverage and the KAP scores of all participants.

    Medical students are more likely to educate older adults about scientific knowledge of influenza and its vaccine compared to clinical practitioners, who, most of the time, remain over-occupied due to the extensive workload. Video-led counseling and education could be a useful option to optimize older adults' understanding of influenza and influenza vaccination. This eventually could improve the uptake of influenza vaccine among Chinese older adults.

    Acute Heart Failure (AHF) is a common condition that often presents with acute respiratory distress and requires urgent medical evaluation and treatment. Arterial hypercapnia is common in AHF and has been associated with a higher rate of intubation and non-invasive ventilation in the Emergency Room (ER), but its prognostic value has never been studied in the prehospital setting.

    A retrospective study was performed on the charts of all patients taken care of by a physician-staffed prehospital mobile unit between June 2016 and September 2019 in Geneva. After approval by the ethics committee, charts were screened to identify all adult patients with a diagnosis of AHF in whom a prehospital arterial blood gas (ABG) sample was drawn. Influencing factors of PTG and their functional pathways among primary caregivers of schizophrenic patients remain unclear. This study is designed to test the simple and serial mediating roles of coping styles and resilience in the relationship between perceived social support and PTG among those primary caregivers.

    A cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2018 to January 2019, and 365 primary caregivers (self-reported) of schizophrenic patients were analyzed. Measures used to assess their perceived social support, coping styles, resilience, and PTG were the Perceived Social Support Scale, the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, respectively.
