    The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of using Community Health Workers (CHWs) to deliver the home-based
    asthma education program on asthma symptoms among children with persistent asthma.

    In this randomized controlled trial of 151 children aged 2-9 years with persistent asthma, we assigned 75 to the intervention and 76 to the control. The primary outcome was caregiver-reported asthma symptom days. Secondary outcomes included asthma-related healthcare utilization, caregivers' asthma knowledge, illness perception and management behaviors, MDI-spacer administration technique, and home environmental triggers. Outcomes were collected at baseline, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. A repeated measurements analytic approach with generalized estimating equations was used. To account for missing data, multiple imputation methods were employed.

    At 3 and 6 months, improvement in symptom days was not significantly different between groups. However, at 9 and 12 months, the reduction in asthma symptom days was 2.15 and 2.31 days more respectively for those in the intervention group compared to the control. Improvements in MDI-spacer technique, knowledge and attitudes were significant throughout follow-up. Improvement in habits regarding MDI use was significant at 3 and 6 months, and asthma routines were improved at 3 months. However, there was no change in asthma-related healthcare utilization or home environmental triggers.

    Using CHWs to deliver a home-based asthma education program to caregivers of children with persistent asthma led to improvements in symptom days and several secondary outcomes. Methods We recorded the proportion of patients on O2; their peripheral O2 saturation (SpO2); if the SpO2 was within, above, or below the target range; if patients had an order for O2 supplementation and a target SpO2 range. Results Among 811 hospitalized patients, 153 (19%) were on supplemental O2. Forty-nine percent were in the recommended range, 55% above, and 1% below. All patients with COPD on O2 supplementation had a SpO2 of more than 92% exposing them to the risk of hypercarbia. Only 43% of patients on oxygen had an associated order and only 52% of patients with an O2 order had an order for a goal SpO2 range. Conclusions Our results demonstrate widespread hyperoxia among hospitalized patients and that oxygen, a very common therapy, is being administered frequently without any written order. These findings highlight the opportunity to implement safe prescribing measures for O2, similar to other prescribed medications.

  • To describe mental health presentations to a tertiary ED in New Zealand during a national COVID-19 lockdown.

    A retrospective, comparative cohort study in Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand.

    There was a 3510 (37%)-patient decrease in all presentations to Christchurch Hospital ED during the 5-week COVID-19 lockdown period from 26 March 2020 to 28 April 2020, compared to a 111 (1.2%)-patient decrease in the same time period in the previous year (P < 0.00001). There is usually a seasonal reduction in mental health attendances at this time of year compared to the weeks before. In 2019, there was a 49 (9.8%)-patient reduction in mental health presentations, whereas in 2020 there was a 193 (34%)-patient reduction (P < 0.001). In 2020, the proportion of mental health attendances compared to all ED attendances during the 5-week lockdown period was similar to the 5-week pre-lockdown period (564/9460 vs 371/5950, P = 0.48). The proportion of mental health patients presenting due to overdose increased by 6.5% (158/564 vs 128/371, P = 0.035); those due to self-harm increased by 3.5% (35/564 vs 36/371, P = 0.049). The proportion of mental health presentations due to anxiety, depression and other non-self-harm/overdose complaints decreased by 10% (371/564 vs 207/371, P = 0.002). The proportion of overdoses of paracetamol and ibuprofen increased by 13.4% during lockdown (22/158 vs 35/128, P = 0.005).

    Cigarette smoking is one of the most prevalent causes of preventable deaths worldwide, leading to chronic diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Cigarette smoke is known to induce significant transcriptional modifications throughout the respiratory tract. However, it is largely unknown how genetic profiles influence the smoking-related transcriptional changes and how changes in gene expression translate into altered alveolar epithelial repair responses.

    We performed a candidate-based acute cigarette smoke-induced eQTL study, investigating the association between SNP and differential gene expression of FPR family members in bronchial epithelial cells isolated 24 h after smoking and after 48 h without smoking. The effects FPR1 on lung epithelial integrity and repair upon damage in the presence and absence of cigarette smoke were studied in CRISPR-Cas9-generated lung epithelial knockout cells.

    One significant (FDR < 0.05) inducible eQTL (rs3212855) was identified that induced a >2-fold change in gene expression. The minor allele of rs3212855 was associated with significantly higher gene expression of FPR1, FPR2 and FPR3 upon smoking. Importantly, the minor allele of rs3212855 was also associated with lower lung function. This shortfall has been highlighted recently by the finding that sex ratios produced by sub-social parasitoid wasps in the family Bethylidae are affected by the number of co-foundresses and by whether these are sisters or unrelated females. Here we close this gap in LMC theory by taking an inclusive-fitness approach to derive explicit theoretical predictions for this scenario. We find that, in line with the recent empirical results, females should adopt a more female-biased sex allocation when their co-foundresses are less numerous and are their sisters.

  • A low-detail, glowing fixation device was added to GoCheck Kids (GCK) photoscreener in the hope of unmasking hyperopia and amblyopia risk factors (ARF).

    Pediatric eye patients were screened by GCK and 2WIN photoscreeners, and Retinomax autorefractor before being compared to AAPOS ARFs.

    Screening was attempted by 131 children who then had school bus accommodation-relaxing skiascopy (SBA-RS) before cycloplegic examination. By 2013 AAPOS uniform guidelines, sensitivity/specificity for GCK was 87%/68%, for 2WIN 87%/71% and for Retinomax 79%/68%. Detection of amblyopia had sensitivity/specificity by GCK of 78%/63%, for 2WIN 79%/65% and for Retinomax 77%/68%. Inconclusive screens were seven for GCK, six for 2WIN and 13 for Retinomax. Mean hyperopia for GCK (+2.49±0.74 D) was similar to cycloplegic refraction (+2.93±0.72 D) and SBA-RS (+2.80±0.82 D) while GCK was slightly more than Retinomax (+1.59±0.93 D,
    =0.13) but significantly more than 2WIN (+1.02±0.49 D, p<0.01).

    GCK, 2WIN and Retinomax had similar validity detecting uniform amblyopia risk factors and amblyopia itself. The nondetailed glow fixation device allowed GCK to uncover substantial hyperopia while the detailed flashing fixation devices on 2WIN and Retinomax seemed to stimulate accommodation in some hyperopic children.

    To evaluate real-world outcomes of astigmatism management with femtosecond laser arcuate incisions in patients with low corneal astigmatism (<1.0 D) using a novel formula for arcuate incision calculation compared to outcomes after conventional cataract surgery without surgical management of astigmatism.

    The Wörtz-Gupta™ Formula (available at www.lricalc.com) was used to calculate femtosecond laser arcuate parameters for 224 patients with <1 D of corneal astigmatism who underwent cataract surgery; lens power was determined with the Barrett Universal II formula. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA) and refractive astigmatism measurements were obtained, with an average follow-up of 4 weeks.

    The average preoperative cylinder was similar (0.61 D in the femtosecond group [n=124] and 0.57 D in the conventional group [n=100] (P>0.05)). More patients had ≤0.5 D of postoperative corneal astigmatism in the femtosecond group (n=110/124, 89%) than in the conventional group (n=71/100, 71%), respectively (P=0.001). The mean absolute postoperative refractive astigmatism was higher in the conventional surgery group than in the femtosecond group (0.43 ± 0.4 D vs 0.26 ± 0.28 D); these differences were statistically significant (P<0.001). The percentage of patients with UCDVA of 20/20 or better vision was higher in the femtosecond group (62%) than the conventional group (48%) (P=0.025).

They are faced with adapting or resisting to these changes. Whilst systems models of organisational behavior provide ideas about organizing and managing an enterprise these are of limited value because of the unpredictability of change. The ubiquity of communication technologies and the rise of virtual methods of working add to the pressure for change creating a climate of anxiety. Organisational power can no longer be framed by the measures once taken for granted. To this end I adopt a soft systems perspective to explore the impact of change upon an organisation and how those within react as they attempt to cope with its impact.Although experiencing bullying and other forms of assault is associated with adverse physical, emotional, and psychological consequences, the long-term consequences, especially in the aftermath of a severe trauma in adulthood, is not known. This study examined the relationship between history of being bullied and/or assaulted and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms among responders to the World Trade Center (WTC) disaster. During 2015-16, a modified life events checklist was administered to responders at Stony Brook WTC Health Program. WTC-related PTSD symptoms were assessed by PTSD checklist (PCL).     A low-detail, glowing fixation device was added to GoCheck Kids (GCK) photoscreener in the hope of unmasking hyperopia and amblyopia risk factors (ARF). Pediatric eye patients were screened by GCK and 2WIN photoscreeners, and Retinomax autorefractor before being compared to AAPOS ARFs. Screening was attempted by 131 children who then had school bus accommodation-relaxing skiascopy (SBA-RS) before cycloplegic examination. By 2013 AAPOS uniform guidelines, sensitivity/specificity for GCK was 87%/68%, for 2WIN 87%/71% and for Retinomax 79%/68%. Detection of amblyopia had sensitivity/specificity by GCK of 78%/63%, for 2WIN 79%/65% and for Retinomax 77%/68%. Inconclusive screens were seven for GCK, six for 2WIN and 13 for Retinomax. Mean hyperopia for GCK (+2.49±0.74 D) was similar to cycloplegic refraction (+2.93±0.72 D) and SBA-RS (+2.80±0.82 D) while GCK was slightly more than Retinomax (+1.59±0.93 D, =0.13) but significantly more than 2WIN (+1.02±0.49 D, p<0.01). GCK, 2WIN and Retinomax had similar validity detecting uniform amblyopia risk factors and amblyopia itself. The nondetailed glow fixation device allowed GCK to uncover substantial hyperopia while the detailed flashing fixation devices on 2WIN and Retinomax seemed to stimulate accommodation in some hyperopic children.   • The circular economy contrasts with the traditional linear economy since it presents a sustainable way both to produce goods and services and to contribute to the development of economies. This paper aims to contribute to a better knowledge of the efficiency of resources productivity, a common indicator to compare how circular economies are, through the estimation of the main determinants for the circular economy in Europe. A systematic analysis and comparison of the performance of all the European Union countries was performed to get further insight into their root causes and to help designing future policies towards a more circular European Union economy. With this purpose, a set of determinant factors for a circular economy in Europe were analysed, under the period between 2000 and 2016. A cluster analysis was applied and complemented with three econometric estimation methods panel unit root tests, panel cointegration tests and vector autoregression model. The main findings allowed to cluster European countries into three different groups according to the growth rate of their resources productivity and to explain them according to the selected exploratory factors. Special efforts were made to explain the highest productivity growth group, as a way to find relevant drivers towards sustainable productivity growths.BACKGROUND Submucosal tunneling techniques have expanded the horizon of therapeutic endoscopy. One such procedure, submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER), enables the endoscopic removal of gastrointestinal (GI) sub-epithelial tumors. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of STER in patients with sub-epithelial lesions localized to the upper GI tract. METHODS Consecutive subjects with a sub-epithelial lesion of ≥ 1 cm size in the upper GI tract were enrolled in the study. STER was performed using the standard technique in an endoscopy suite. A modified technique (double-opening STER) was used in cases with difficult en bloc resection of the tumor. Of them, 44 subjects (mean age 44.68 ± 12.82, 52.3% males) underwent standard STER. Majority (31, 70.4%) of the lesions were located in the esophagus and cardia. Technical success and en bloc removal of the tumor were achieved in 97.7% and 88.4% of cases, respectively. There was no major adverse event. Minor adverse events were recorded in 7 (15.9%) cases. Majority (31, 70.4%) of the tumors originated from muscularis propria, followed by submucosa (8, 18.2%) and muscularis mucosa (5, 11.4%). The most common histological diagnosis was leiomyoma (59.1%) followed by GI stromal tumors (20.4%). At a mean follow up of 12.36 ± 7.63 months, there was no incidence of tumor recurrence in en bloc as well as piecemeal resection groups. CONCLUSION STER is a safe and efficacious procedure for sub-epithelial tumors in the upper GI tract. Novel strategies need to be developed to ensure en bloc removal of large lesions.Overlapping sphincteroplasty for anal sphincter injury is associated with suboptimal long-term results that can be implicated to incomplete repair and neurovascular damage during dissection. This study was done to evaluate endoscopic ultrasound-guided overlapping sphincteroplasty to ensure completeness of sphincter repair intraoperatively and also to protect the integrity of neurovascular bundles. Between January 2014 and October 2015, 15 consecutive women with damaged anal sphincters, who underwent endoscopic ultrasound-guided overlapping sphincteroplasty, were prospectively evaluated (group 1). A control group of seven women, who had undergone classical sphincteroplasty between August 2012 and December 2013, was retrospectively identified (group 2). Perioperative outcomes, anal manometry findings, and fecal incontinence scores of both the groups were analyzed. Median age of patients in group 1 was 28 years (range 21-45) whereas group 2 patients had a median age of 33 years (range 26-35). Group 1 patients were followed up for a median duration of 44 months (range 37-54), and the median follow up duration in group 2 was 62 months (range 55-70). Postoperative evaluation done at the last follow up revealed a marked improvement in anal squeeze pressures as well as St. Mark's incontinence score in both the groups compared with their preoperative status. However, there was no significant difference in the outcomes of both the groups. Use of intraoperative ultrasound ensures the completeness of sphincter repair and also decreases chances of neurovascular injury. Even minimally invasive procedure is preferred after 21 days of onset and there is a paucity of data on decision and outcomes of early radiological interventions. This study aimed to evaluate efficacy and safety of early image-guided percutaneous interventions in management of acute severe necrotizing pancreatitis. METHODS A single-center retrospective study was performed after obtaining Institutional review board approval for analyzing hospital records of patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis from January 2012 to July 2017. Seventy-eight consecutive patients with necrotizing pancreatitis and acute necrotic collections (ANC) were managed with percutaneous catheter drainage (PCD) and catheter-directed necrosectomy, in early phase of the disease ( less then  21 days). Clinical data and laboratory parameters of the included patients were evaluated until discharge from hospital, or mortality. RESULTS Overall survival rate was 73.1%. Forty-two (53.8%) patients survived with PCD alone, while the remaining 15 (19.2%) survivors needed additional necrosectomy. The timing of intervention from the start of the hospitalization to drainage was 14.3 ± 2.4 days. Significant risk factors for mortality were the presence of organ system failure, need for mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, and the acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II) score. An APACHE II score cutoff value of 15 was a significant discriminant for predicting survival with catheter-directed necrosectomy. CONCLUSION An early PCD of ANC in clinically deteriorating patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis, along with aggressive catheter-directed necrosectomy can avoid surgical interventions, and improve outcome in a significant proportion of patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis.

  • The present study aimed to investigate the role of janus kinase (JAK)1/STAT1 in interferon (IFN)‑γ‑induced apoptosis in human melanocytes. Following IFN‑γ treatment, the viability of human melanocytes were analyzed using a Cell Counting Kit‑8 assay and the apoptotic rate was determined using flow cytometry. Western blotting was also performed to analyze the phosphorylation levels of JAK1, JAK2 and the transcriptional factor STAT1, as well as the expression levels of Bcl‑2, Bax, Bcl‑2 homologous antagonist killer (Bak) and cleaved caspase‑3. Finally, following the pretreatment with the STAT1 inhibitor fludarabine, human melanocytes were treated with IFN‑γ and flow cytometry was used to detect the apoptotic rate. The results revealed that IFN‑γ reduced the proliferation and induced the apoptosis of human melanocytes. In addition, IFN‑γ treatment led to decreased expression levels of Bcl‑2 and increased expression levels of Bax, Bak and cleaved caspase‑3, alongside the activation of the JAK1/STAT1 signaling pathway. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/eidd-2801.html Conversely, the pretreatment with the STAT1 inhibitor fludarabine decreased the apoptotic rate of human melanocytes following IFN‑γ induction. The long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) proliferating cell nuclear antigen pseudogene 1 (PCNAP1) plays important roles in the initiation and progression of cancers; however, its regulatory function and molecular mechanism in breast cancer metastasis remains unknown. Therefore, we investigated the roles of lncRNA PCNAP1 in breast cancer metastasis by modulating the microRNA (miR)‑340‑5p/SOX4 axis using quantitative real‑time PCR, in vivo mouse models, nucleo‑cytoplasmic separation, western blot analysis, scratch assays, Transwell assays, luciferase reporter assays and MS2‑RIP, in vitro and in vivo. lncRNA PCNAP1 was found to be upregulated in human breast cancer tissues, and high lncRNA PCNAP1 levels predicted poor overall survival. Function assays showed that knockdown of lncRNA PCNAP1 suppressed the migration and invasion of breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, lncRNA PCNAP1 functioned as a competing endogenous (ce)RNA for miR‑340‑5p to facilitate the expression of its target gene SRY‑box transcription factor 4 (SOX4), promoting migration and invasion of breast cancer cells. Overall, we found that lncRNA PCNAP1 predicted a poor prognosis in breast cancer and promoted cancer metastasis via miR‑340‑5p‑dependent upregulation of SOX4 expression. These results suggest that lncRNA PCNAP1 has potential as an alternative therapeutic target to suppress breast cancer metastasis.There have been few studies investigating the potential effects of indoor sources of particulate matter on human health. In this study, the effect of different concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) collected from a printing room on lung health was examined using cultured cells and a mouse model. Further, the mechanism of lung injury was examined. The results indicated that PM2.5 significantly enhanced malondialdehyde activity (P less then 0.05), decreased superoxide dismutase activity (P less then 0.05), upregulated the expression of pro‑inflammatory factors including interleukin (IL)‑1β, tumor necrosis factor‑, IL‑6 and downregulated the expression of the inflammatory factor IL‑2 (P less then 0.05).     The present study aimed to investigate the role of janus kinase (JAK)1/STAT1 in interferon (IFN)‑γ‑induced apoptosis in human melanocytes. Following IFN‑γ treatment, the viability of human melanocytes were analyzed using a Cell Counting Kit‑8 assay and the apoptotic rate was determined using flow cytometry. Western blotting was also performed to analyze the phosphorylation levels of JAK1, JAK2 and the transcriptional factor STAT1, as well as the expression levels of Bcl‑2, Bax, Bcl‑2 homologous antagonist killer (Bak) and cleaved caspase‑3. Therefore, we investigated the roles of lncRNA PCNAP1 in breast cancer metastasis by modulating the microRNA (miR)‑340‑5p/SOX4 axis using quantitative real‑time PCR, in vivo mouse models, nucleo‑cytoplasmic separation, western blot analysis, scratch assays, Transwell assays, luciferase reporter assays and MS2‑RIP, in vitro and in vivo. lncRNA PCNAP1 was found to be upregulated in human breast cancer tissues, and high lncRNA PCNAP1 levels predicted poor overall survival. In this study, we demostrated that depleting AFP significantly suppressed diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-induced liver tumor progression in an AFP gene-deficient mouse model. Similarly, knocking down AFP expression inhibited human HCC cell proliferation and tumor growth by inducing apoptosis. AFP expression level was inversely associated with the apoptotic rate in mouse and human HCC specimens. Investigation of potential cross-talk between AFP and apoptotic signaling revealed that AFP exerted its growth-promoting effect by suppressing the Fas/FADD-mediated extrinsic apoptotic pathway. Mechanistically, AFP bound to the RNA-binding protein HuR, increasing the accumulation of HuR in the cytoplasm and subsequent inhibition of Fas mRNA translation.   • Repeatability was good, with up to 94% of laboratories reporting results within the limits (D less then 0.5 log10 copies/mL). The HBV and HCV programme consisted of two standards with different viral load contents. The evaluation of the case studies and the DAIaaS framework is reported in terms of end-to-end delay, network usage, energy consumption, and financial savings with recommendations to achieve higher performance. DAIaaS will facilitate standardization of distributed AI provisioning, allow developers to focus on the domain-specific details without worrying about distributed training and inference, and help systemize the mass-production of technologies for smarter environments.In this paper, the effect of the micro-electro discharge machining (EDM) milling machinability of Si3N4-TiN workpieces was investigated. The material removal rate (MRR) and tool wear rate (TWR) were analyzed in relation to discharge pulse types in order to evaluate how the different pulse shapes impact on such micro-EDM performance indicators. Voltage and current pulse waveforms were acquired during micro-EDM trials, scheduled according to a Design of Experiment (DOE); then, a pulse discrimination algorithm was used to post-process the data off-line and discriminate the pulse types as short, arc, delayed, or normal. The analysis showed that, for the considered process parameter combinations, MRR was sensitive only to normal pulses, while the other pulse types had no remarkable effect on it. On the contrary, TWR was affected by normal pulses, but the occurrence of arcs and delayed pulses induced unexpected improvements in tool wear. Those results suggest that micro-EDM manufacturing of Si3N4-TiN workpiece is relevantly different from the micro-EDM process performed on metal workpieces such as steel. Additionally, the inspection of the Si3N4-TiN micro-EDM surface, performed by SEM and EDS analyses, showed the presence of re-solidified droplets and micro-cracks, which modified the chemical composition and the consequent surface quality of the machined micro-features.A series of new oxindole-based spiro-heterocycles bearing the benzo[b]thiophene motif were synthesized via a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction and their acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activity was evaluated. Studies covering risk factors, diagnostic procedures, treatment methods and time to recovery of MTSS in novice and recreational runners were selected. Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria and were included. The risk factors of MTSS are mainly intrinsic and include higher pelvic tilt in the frontal plane, peak internal rotation of the hip, navicular drop and foot pronation, among others. Computed tomography (CT) and pressure algometry may be valid instruments to corroborate the presence of this injury and confirm the diagnosis. A multilevel framework is proposed for improving the health and well-being of pet owners experiencing homelessness. Informed by a One Health approach, the framework identifies interventions at the policy, public, and direct service delivery levels. Policy interventions are proposed to increase the supply of pet-friendly emergency shelters, access to market rental housing and veterinary medicine, and the use of a Housing First approach. At the public level, educational interventions are needed to improve knowledge and reduce stigma about the relationship between homelessness and pet ownership. Direct service providers can support pet owners experiencing homelessness by recognizing their strengths, connecting them to community services, being aware of the risks associated with pet loss, providing harm reduction strategies, documenting animals as emotional support animals, and engaging in advocacy.

DAIaaS will facilitate standardization of distributed AI provisioning, allow developers to focus on the domain-specific details without worrying about distributed training and inference, and help systemize the mass-production of technologies for smarter environments.In this paper, the effect of the micro-electro discharge machining (EDM) milling machinability of Si3N4-TiN workpieces was investigated. The material removal rate (MRR) and tool wear rate (TWR) were analyzed in relation to discharge pulse types in order to evaluate how the different pulse shapes impact on such micro-EDM performance indicators. Voltage and current pulse waveforms were acquired during micro-EDM trials, scheduled according to a Design of Experiment (DOE); then, a pulse discrimination algorithm was used to post-process the data off-line and discriminate the pulse types as short, arc, delayed, or normal. The analysis showed that, for the considered process parameter combinations, MRR was sensitive only to normal pulses, while the other pulse types had no remarkable effect on it. On the contrary, TWR was affected by normal pulses, but the occurrence of arcs and delayed pulses induced unexpected improvements in tool wear. Those results suggest that micro-EDM manufacturing of Si3N4-TiN workpiece is relevantly different from the micro-EDM process performed on metal workpieces such as steel. Additionally, the inspection of the Si3N4-TiN micro-EDM surface, performed by SEM and EDS analyses, showed the presence of re-solidified droplets and micro-cracks, which modified the chemical composition and the consequent surface quality of the machined micro-features.A series of new oxindole-based spiro-heterocycles bearing the benzo[b]thiophene motif were synthesized via a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction and their acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activity was evaluated. All the synthesized compounds exhibited moderate inhibitory activities against AChE, while IIc was found to be the most active analog with an IC50 value of 20,840 µM·L-1. Its molecular structure was a 5-chloro-substituted oxindole bearing benzo[b]thiophene and octahydroindole moieties. Immunohistochemical and Western blotting studies were performed to evaluate neuroprotection and the impact of the compound on the pathway of neuronal death in the HD mice. Our results indicate that Olaparib administration starting from the pre-symptomatic stage of the neurodegenerative disease increased survival, ameliorated the neurological deficits, and improved clinical outcomes in neurobehavioral tests mainly by modulating the inflammasome activation. These results suggest that Olaparib, a commercially available drug already in use as an anti-neoplastic compound, exerts a neuroprotective effect and could be a useful pharmaceutical agent for Huntington's disease therapy.This systematic review evaluates the existing literature about medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) in novice and recreational runners. PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus, SPORTDiscus and CINAHL databases were searched until July 2020. Studies covering risk factors, diagnostic procedures, treatment methods and time to recovery of MTSS in novice and recreational runners were selected. Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria and were included. The risk factors of MTSS are mainly intrinsic and include higher pelvic tilt in the frontal plane, peak internal rotation of the hip, navicular drop and foot pronation, among others. Computed tomography (CT) and pressure algometry may be valid instruments to corroborate the presence of this injury and confirm the diagnosis. Regarding treatment procedures, arch-support foot orthoses are able to increase contact time, normalize foot pressure distribution and similarly to shockwave therapy, reduce pain. However, it is important to take into account the biases and poor methodological quality of the included studies, more research is needed to confirm these results.Approximately one in 10 people experiencing homelessness have pets. Despite the psychosocial benefits derived from pet ownership, systemic and structural barriers can prevent this group from meeting their basic needs and exiting homelessness. A multilevel framework is proposed for improving the health and well-being of pet owners experiencing homelessness. Informed by a One Health approach, the framework identifies interventions at the policy, public, and direct service delivery levels. Policy interventions are proposed to increase the supply of pet-friendly emergency shelters, access to market rental housing and veterinary medicine, and the use of a Housing First approach. At the public level, educational interventions are needed to improve knowledge and reduce stigma about the relationship between homelessness and pet ownership. Direct service providers can support pet owners experiencing homelessness by recognizing their strengths, connecting them to community services, being aware of the risks associated with pet loss, providing harm reduction strategies, documenting animals as emotional support animals, and engaging in advocacy.
