Ice recrystallization inhibitors (IRI) are of critical importance in biology, cryopreservation of cells and organs, and frozen foods. Antifreeze glycoproteins (AFGPs) are the most potent IRI. Their cost and cytotoxicity drive the design of synthetic flexible polymers that mimic their function. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is the most potent biomimetic found to date, although it is orders of magnitude less potent than AFGPs. A lack of molecular understanding of the factors that limit the IRI efficiency of PVA and other flexible ice-binding polymers hinders the design of more potent IRI. Here, we use molecular and numerical simulations to elucidate how the degree of polymerization (DP) and functionalization of PVA impact its IRI. Our simulations indicate that the onset of IRI activity of PVA occurs for 15 less then DP less then 20, in agreement with experiments. We predict that polymers with stronger binding to ice per monomer attain IRI activity at lower DP and identify this as a contributor to the higher IRI potency of AFGPs. The simulations reveal that the limiting step for binding of flexible molecules to ice is not the alignment of the molecule to the surface or the initiation of the binding but the propagation to reach its full binding potential. This distinguishes AFGPs and PVA from rigid antifreeze proteins and, we argue, is responsible for their different scaling of efficiencies with molecular size. We use the analysis of PVA to identify the factors that control the IRI activity of flexible polymers and assess the molecular characteristics that endow AFGPs with their exceptional IRI potency.A new sensitive sensor for detecting chlorothalonil (CHL) based on the inner-filter effect (IFE) between gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and ratiometric fluorescent quantum dots (RF-QDs) was developed. We propose here a straightforward digital printing fabrication process of silicone rubber-based, multilayered electronics. An inkjet-printable PDMS solution was developed for the digital patterning of elastomeric structures. The silicone ink was used together with a highly conductive silver nanoparticle (Ag NP) ink for the fabrication of all-inkjet-printed multilayered electrical devices. The application of the multilayered circuit board was successful. The sheet resistances were below 0.3 Ω/â–¡, and the conductive layer thickness was less than 1 μm. The electrical insulation between the conductive layers was done by printing a 20-25 μm-thick dielectric PDMS layer selectively on top of the bottommost conductive layer.Potentiometric probes used in direct potentiometry are attractive sensing tools. They give information on ion activities, which is often uniquely useful. If, instead, concentrations are desired as sensor output, the ionic strength of the sample must be precisely known, which is often not possible. Here, for the first time, direct potentiometry can be made to report concentrations, rather than activities. It is demonstrated for the detection of monovalent anionic species by using a self-referencing Ag/AgI pulstrode as the reference element instead of a traditional reference electrode. This reference pulstrode releases a discrete quantity of iodide ions from the electrode and the resulting reference potential varies with the activity coefficient of iodide. The effects of activity coefficient on the indicator and reference electrode are therefore compensated and the observed cell potential may now be described in a Nernstian manner against anion concentration, rather than activity. Theoretical simulations and experimental results support the validity of this approach. For most monovalent anions of practical relevance, the potential difference between this approach and from a traditional activity coefficient calculation is less than 0.5 mV. The concept is validated with an all-solid-state nitrate sensor as well as a commercial fluoride-selective electrode, giving Nernstian responses in different ionic strength backgrounds against concentration without the need for correcting activity coefficients or liquid junction potentials.Antimicrobial resistance is a grave threat to human life. The present work reports systematical electrochemical analysis and standardization of protocol for EAST measurement. The proposed EAST is successfully applied for Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis and Gram-negative Escherichia coli as model organisms to monitor bacterial concentration, decay kinetics in the presence of various antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, cefixime, and amoxycillin), drug efficacy, and IC50. Bacterial decay kinetics in the presence of antibiotics were validated by the colony counting method, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy image analysis. The EAST predicts the antibiotic susceptibility of bacteria within 15 min, which is a significant advantage over existing techniques that consume hours to days.

The cell growth inhibition was induced by apoptosis which was expressed via chromatin condensation and PS externalization. MOE decreased mitochondrial membrane potential. Additionally, MOE increased Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, activated Caspase-3/7, Caspase-9, PARP and AIF translocation, leading to apoptotic cell death. Our study indicated that MOE exerted significant anti-cancer effects on melanoma cells in vitro which involved mitochondria-mediated Caspase-dependent and Caspase-independent apoptosis pathways. These results provided a scientific approach for using Moringa oleifera leaves as an alternative therapy to treat skin cancer.The homeobox transcription factor MEIS1 is involved in cell fate decision, stem cells properties, gastrointestinal (GI) tract development, and progression of several malignancies such as esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Increasing evidences suggest the crosstalk between MEIS1 and cell signaling pathways. Therefore, our aim in present study was to investigate the probable linkage of MEIS1 expression with key genes of different cell signaling pathways in ESCC tumorigenesis, and their correlation with clinicopathological feature of the patients. The gene expression profiling of MEIS1 and different cell signaling genes including SALL4, SIZN1, and HEY1 (stemness state, BMP, and NOTCH signaling pathways, respectively) was performed using quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in fresh tumoral compared to margin normal tissues of 50 treatment-naive ESCC samples. The mRNA expression of MEIS1/SIZN1, SIZN1/HEY1, and SIZN1/SALL4 were significantly associated to each other (P less then 0.05). The results show that nuclear-cytoplasmic redistribution of RhoA occurs during replicative senescence, with maximal RhoA/nucleus colocalization evident at passage 15. At that time point, decreases in colocalization, namely myosin-9/F-actin and α-actinin-4/F-actin, were seen and myosin-9 was found in cytosolic extracts in the assembly-incompetent form. Using an automated intravital confocal cytometry system and quantitative analysis of MSCWJ-1 movements, we found that changes in cytoskeletal organization correlate with cell motility characteristics over a time period from passages 9 to 38. The factors examined (cytoskeleton structure, cell motility) indicate that the process by which cells transition to replicative senescence is best represented as three stages. The first stage lasts from cell culture isolation to passage 15 and is characterized by accumulation of actin-binding proteins in assembly-incompetent forms; nuclear RhoA accumulation; and an increase in movement tortuosity. The second stage extends from passages 15 to 28 and is characterized by an increase in the structural integrity of the actin cytoskeleton; exit of RhoA and alpha-actinin-4 from the nucleus; and a decrease in path tortuosity. A fasting morning blood sample was assayed for the cytokines (IL-6, IFN-γ, and TNF-α). Sleep, stress, and depression questionnaires were also collected. Repeated measures ANOVAs, regression models, and independent t tests were used to analyze the data. RESULTS Diary-assessed total sleep time (p less then .05) and actigraphy-assessed sleep latency (p = .05) were negatively associated with gestational age. Variability in actigraphy-assessed sleep latency (p less then .01) was negatively associated with infant weight. None of the cytokines was associated with any of the outcomes. t tests revealed that those with a complication were older (p less then .05) and had higher pre-pregnancy BMI (p less then .05), higher self-reported stress (p less then .05), and lower IFN-γ (p less then .05). CONCLUSION Findings suggest that longer and more variable sleep latency, as well as shorter sleep duration, is associated with shorter gestational age or a lower birth weight infant. Overall, the findings suggest that among a low-risk, healthy sample of pregnant women, sleep disturbance does not pose a substantial risk for adverse delivery outcomes.To validate externally and recalibrate three European risk scores for all-cause mortality and transplantation in patients receiving cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) in an Asian population. Data were collected at our institution between January 2010 and December 2017. The primary endpoints were all-cause mortality and heart transplantation. Of the 506 patients who were followed for 2 years, 104 reached the primary endpoint. The Kaplan-Meier event-free survival analysis, stratified according to the three scores, yielded significant results (log-rank test, all P 0.05). The ScREEN score yielded the best discriminatory power for the primary endpoints compared with the VALID-CRT and EAARN scores. ScREEN was the best predictor of all-cause mortality and heart transplantation. Risk scores based on different populations should be selected cautiously. Graphical Abstract.

However, both groups were concerned that inadequacies in health care institutions and socioeconomic barriers would prevent their communities from receiving the full benefits of precision medicine. African Americans were also concerned that the genetic and non-genetic personal information revealed through precision medicine would make African Americans further vulnerable to provider racism and discrimination in and outside of health care. Conclusions While these groups believed precision medicine might yield benefits for health outcomes, they are also skeptical about whether African Americans and Hispanics would actually benefit from precision medicine given current structural limitations and disparities in health care access and quality. Methods A community-based participatory research approach with mixed methods was employed to gain a deeper understanding of precision health research and practice among American Indian, African American, Latino, Chinese, and Vietnamese groups and physicians that serve these communities. A survey assessed demographics and opinions of precision health, genetic testing, and precision health research. Focus groups (n=12) with each racial/ethnic minority group and physicians further explored attitudes about these topics. Results One hundred community members (American Indian [n=17], African American [n=13], Chinese [n=17], Latino [n=27], and Vietnamese [n=26]) and 14 physicians completed the survey and participated in the focus groups. Familiarity with precision health was low among community members and high among physicians. Most groups were enthusiastic about the approach, especially if it considered influences on health in addition to genes (eg, environmental, behavioral, social factors). Significant concerns were expressed by African American and American Indian participants about precision health practice and research based on past abuses in biomedical research. In addition, physician and community members shared concerns such as security and confidentiality of genetic information, cost and affordability of genetic tests and precision medicine, discrimination and disparities, distrust of medical and research and pharmaceutical institutions, language barriers, and physician's specialty. Conclusions Engagement of racial/ethnic minority communities and the providers who serve them is important for advancing a precision health approach to addressing health disparities. In April 2016, NIMHD, in partnership with the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), launched the PM TCC program to fund five centers across the United States to stimulate health disparities research with an emphasis on precision medicine to address one or more documented health disparities. However, both groups were concerned that inadequacies in health care institutions and socioeconomic barriers would prevent their communities from receiving the full benefits of precision medicine. African Americans were also concerned that the genetic and non-genetic personal information revealed through precision medicine would make African Americans further vulnerable to provider racism and discrimination in and outside of health care. Conclusions While these groups believed precision medicine might yield benefits for health outcomes, they are also skeptical about whether African Americans and Hispanics would actually benefit from precision medicine given current structural limitations and disparities in health care access and quality. Methods A community-based participatory research approach with mixed methods was employed to gain a deeper understanding of precision health research and practice among American Indian, African American, Latino, Chinese, and Vietnamese groups and physicians that serve these communities. A survey assessed demographics and opinions of precision health, genetic testing, and precision health research. Focus groups (n=12) with each racial/ethnic minority group and physicians further explored attitudes about these topics. Results One hundred community members (American Indian [n=17], African American [n=13], Chinese [n=17], Latino [n=27], and Vietnamese [n=26]) and 14 physicians completed the survey and participated in the focus groups. Familiarity with precision health was low among community members and high among physicians. Most groups were enthusiastic about the approach, especially if it considered influences on health in addition to genes (eg, environmental, behavioral, social factors). Significant concerns were expressed by African American and American Indian participants about precision health practice and research based on past abuses in biomedical research. In addition, physician and community members shared concerns such as security and confidentiality of genetic information, cost and affordability of genetic tests and precision medicine, discrimination and disparities, distrust of medical and research and pharmaceutical institutions, language barriers, and physician's specialty. Conclusions Engagement of racial/ethnic minority communities and the providers who serve them is important for advancing a precision health approach to addressing health disparities. The activity budget is important for understanding behavioural variability and adaptation in primates. Assamese macaques (Macaca assamensis) found in the limestone forest of Guangxi Nonggang National Nature Reserve, Southwest China, primarily feed on young leaves of Bonia saxatilis (a shrubby, karst-endemic bamboo). To understand how a specific bamboo leaf-based diet and ecological factors affect activity budget, one group of Assamese macaques was studied using instantaneous scan sampling for 1 year. The macaques spent most of their time feeding (32.7 ± 5.4%), followed by resting (28.6 ± 6.3%), moving (28.6 ± 5.3%), grooming (8.0 ± 3.0%), playing (1.7 ± 1.6%) and other activities (0.4 ± 0.2%). Their activity budget was similar to that of typical frugivorous primates and bamboo-dominated primates, which spent more time on active behaviours (feeding and moving, 61.3 ± 6.0%) than on inactive behaviours (resting and grooming, 36.6 ± 6.4%). OBJECTIVE With the present study, we aimed to prospectively assess the diagnostic performance of recently published CI-AKI risk scores (up to 2018) in a cohort of patients undergoing PCI. METHODS We enrolled 1,247 consecutive patients (80% men, mean age 62 ± 10 years) treated with elective or urgent PCI. For each patient, we calculated the individual CI-AKI risk score based on 17 different risk models. CI-AKI was defined as an increase of ≥25% (liberal) or ≥0.5 mg/dL (strict) in pre-PCI serum creatinine 48 h after PCI. RESULTS CI-AKI definition and, therefore, CI-AKI incidence have a significant impact on risk model performance (median negative predictive value increased from 85 to 99%; median c-statistic increased from 0.516 to 0.603 using more strict definition criteria). All of the 17 published models were characterized by a weak-to-moderate discriminating ability mainly based on the identification of "true-negative" cases (median positive predictive value 19% with liberal criterion and 3% with strict criterion). In none of the models, c-statistic was >0.800 with either CI-AKI definition. Novel, different combinations of the >35 independent variables used in the published models either by down- or by up-scaling did not result in significant improvement in predictive performance. CONCLUSIONS The predictive ability of all models was similar and only modest, derived mainly by identifying true-negative cases. A new approach is probably needed by adding novel markers or periprocedural characteristics. © 2020 S. OBJECTIVES To review the published evidence for the efficacy and safety of nonsurgical modes of therapy for EMPD. METHODS A systematic review and meta-analysis of nonsurgical EMPD treatments was performed. The primary outcome was complete response (CR); secondary outcomes were clinical regression by ≥50%, adverse events, and recurrence rate. RESULTS The systematic review included 43 observational studies (341 patients; 7 prospective cohort studies, 19 retrospective cohort studies, and 17 cases series) evaluating 5 treatment modalities. Imiquimod (13 studies, 110 patients) administered at variable doses ranging from daily to twice weekly for 2-56 weeks demonstrated CR of 54% (95% CI, 40-67%; I2 = 37%) and had a satisfactory safety profile. In 14 heterogeneous studies (122 patients) evaluating photodynamic therapy (PDT), only 36% (95% CI, 22-53%; I2 = 52%) of patients achieved CR. Radiotherapy (12 studies, 67 patients) showed CR of 97%, but was associated with local and systemic side effects. Ablative lasers and topical fluorouracil and calcipotriene lacked adequate evidence of efficacy. CONCLUSIONS Imiquimod and radiotherapy are the most appropriate nonsurgical modalities for EMPD treatment given their good efficacy and safety profile. In addition, CTCA-based coronary artery reconstruction enables local haemodynamic forces assessment, which regulate plaque formation and vascular inflammation and prediction of lesions that are prone to progress and cause events. However, the use of CTCA for vulnerable plaque detection in the clinical arena remains limited. To unlock the full potential of CTCA and enable its broad use, further work is needed to develop user-friendly processing tools that will allow fast and accurate analysis of CTCA, computational fluid dynamic modelling, and evaluation of the local haemodynamic forces. The present study aims to develop a seamless platform that will overcome the limitations of CTCA and enable fast and accurate evaluation of plaque morphology and physiology. We will analyse imaging data from 70 patients with coronary artery disease who will undergo state-of-the-art CTCA and near-infrared spectroscopy-intravascular ultrasound imaging and develop and train algorithms that will take advantage of the intravascular imaging data to optimise vessel segmentation and plaque characterisation. Furthermore, we will design an advanced module that will enable reconstruction of coronary artery anatomy from CTCA, blood flow simulation, shear stress estimation, and comprehensive visualisation of vessel pathophysiology. These advances are expected to facilitate the broad use of CTCA, not only for risk stratification but also for the evaluation of the effect of emerging therapies on plaque evolution. © 2020 S. In this this article, we discussed the changing paradigms in AKI from mechanisms to diagnostics, risk factors, and management of AKI.Feed fiber composition is usually considered as one of the factors that have an impact on digestive tract microbiota composition. The investigations on the level of fermentation and in-vitro digestibility of different fibers are not well understood. The aim of the current study is to determine the effect of different fiber sources on intestinal nutrient digestibility, hindgut fermentation, and microbial community composition under in vitro conditions using pigs' hindgut as a model. The experimental treatment diets contained alfalfa hay, cornstalk, and rice straw. Cornstalk treatment displayed higher digestibility compared to alfalfa hay and rice straw; similar results were observed with in-vitro digestibility using intestinal digesta. Firmicutes were the most abundant phyla (Firmicutes = 89.2%), and Lactobacillus were the prominent genera (75.2%) in response to alfalfa compared to rice straw and cornstalk treatments. In simulated in-vitro digestion, corn stalk fiber improved dry matter digestibility; rice straw fiber improved volatile fatty acid content and fermentation efficiency. Alfalfa fiber improved the thickness of deposited Firmicutes and Lactobacillus.This work presents an investigation to model chemical bonding in various dimers based on the atomic fragment approach. The atomic fragment approach is an ab-initio, parameter-free implementation of orbital-free density functional theory which is based on the bifunctional formalism, i.e., it uses both the density and the Pauli potential as two separate variables. While providing the exact Kohn-Sham Pauli kinetic energy when the orbital-based Kohn-Sham data are used, the bifunctional formalism allows for approximations of the functional derivative which are orbital-free. In its first implementation, the atomic fragment approach uses atoms in their ground state to model the Pauli potential. Here, it is tested how artificial closed-shell fragments with non-integer electron occupation perform regarding the prediction of bond lengths of diatomics. Such fragments can sometimes mimic the electronic structure of a molecule better than groundstate fragments. It is found that bond lengths may indeed be considerably improved in some of the tested diatomics, in accord with predictions based on the electronic structure.Dear Editor, I have found the article by Liu YC et al. very interesting, with great cognitive value [...].The current study explored the effect of isoorientin on the metabolic activity and lipid accumulation in fully differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes. To achieve this, the 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes were differentiated for eight days and treated with various concentrations of isoorientin (0.1-100 μM) for four hours. Subsequently, the metabolic activity, lipid accumulation, and mitochondrial respiration were assessed. Furthermore, to unravel the molecular mechanisms that might elucidate the bioactivity of isoorientin, protein expression of the genes involved in insulin signaling and energy expenditure, such as AKT and AMPK, were investigated. The results showed that isoorientin, at different doses, could block lipid storage and enhance glycerol release, with a concomitant improvement of the metabolic activity and mitochondrial function. Specifically, Hannon's analyses suggest that non-cognitive factors, such as test anxiety, contribute to SAT performance and the impact of test anxiety on the SAT is stronger among Hispanic students than European-American students. Importantly, this pattern of results was observed after controlling for individual differences in cognitive abilities. We argue that there are multiple issues with Hannon's investigation and interpretation. For instance, Hannon did not include an adequate number or variety of measures of cognitive ability. In addition, the measure of test anxiety was a retrospective self-report survey on evaluated anxiety rather than a direct measure of situational test anxiety associated with the SAT. Based on these and other observations, we conclude that Hannon's current results do not provide sufficient evidence to suggest that non-cognitive factors play a significant role in the SAT or that they impact European-American and Hispanic students differently.Immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) is becoming standard of practice for an increasing number of cancer types. ICIs enhance T-cell action against the cancer cells. By unbalancing the immune system ICIs may cause dysimmune toxicities, a series of disorders broadly defined immune-related adverse events (irAEs). IrAEs may affect any organ or apparatus and most frequently involve skin, colon, endocrine organs, liver, and lungs. Early identification and appropriate treatment of irAEs can improve patient outcome. The paper aims at reviewing mechanisms of the occurrence of irAEs, the importance of a proper diagnosis and the main pillars of therapy. To provide effective guidance to the comprehension of major irAEs imaging findings will be reviewed.

Case presentation A 41-year-old male presented to the retina clinic with complaints of seeing a black spot, blurred vision and metamorphopsia involving the right eye for the past 4 months. He was on treatment for androgenic alopecia with topical 5% Minoxidil application on scalp two times a day. He noticed the symptoms 8 months after starting the treatment and had stopped the medication since the past 2 months. On examination, best-corrected visual acuity was 20/20 in both eyes. Fundoscopic examination of the right eye with +78D lens on slit lamp revealed the presence of subretinal fluid and few focal spots of retinal pigment epithelial alterations. Optical coherence tomography scan evaluation showed the presence of subretinal fluid (SRF) and pachychoroid supporting the diagnosis of CSCR. Indocyanine green angiography revealed dilated hyperpermeable choroidal vasculature on the nasal side of the fovea in the early and later phases of the angiogram. The patient was diagnosed with CSCR as a possible consequence of the topical minoxidil solution. Patient was asked to avoid future use of Minoxidil and was started on oral eplerenone therapy 50 mg/day for 4 consecutive weeks. One month later, there was complete resolution of his symptoms and SRF. At the final follow-up visit, 2 months after starting the therapy, there was no recurrence of SRF. Results The participants considered internet as the most important ality assured information for patients, caregivers, and physicians. MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (****), Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS), and Positive And Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) were used to assess cognitive function, Intelligence Quotient (IQ), and clinical symptoms, respectively. The correlations between ReHo maps and cognitive deficits and the severity of symptoms were examined using strict correlation analysis. Results ReHo values in right Middle Frontal Gyrus (MFG) and Superior Frontal Gyrus (SFG) increased in dn-FES group, whereas ReHo values in right cuneus decreased. Correlation analysis showed that the ReHo values in right MFG positively correlated with attention/vigilance impairments, social cognition deficits, and the severity of clinical manifestations. Conclusions These findings suggested that abnormal spontaneous activities in right MFG reflect illness severity and cognitive deficits, which also serve as a basis for establishing objective diagnostic markers and might be a clinical intervention target for treating patients with schizophrenia.

A partial-thickness flap was elevated, leaving the periosteal layer on the buccal cortical bone plate. The periosteal layer was in turn elevated to create a pouch, which was used to stabilize a bovine-derived xenograft (DBBM) at the peri-implant buccal bone defect. No barrier membrane was used. In case of insufficient dimensions of peri-implant mucosa, a connective tissue graft (CTG) was buccally positioned at the most coronal portion of the implant. Treatment resulted in substantial reconstruction of peri-implant support associated with reduced probing depth and absence of inflammation. CONCLUSIONS SPAL technique with or without additional CTG may be a suitable option to obtain clinical remission of peri-implantitis defects associated with buccal bone dehiscence. Water-lean solvents are a part of an approach that aims to increase efficiency by reducing the water content in solution. Water-lean solvents such as GE's GAP/TEG are promising technologies, with potential to halve the parasitic load to a coal-fired power plant, only if high solution viscosities and hydrolysis of the siloxane moieties could be mitigated. We present here, an integrated multidisciplinary approach to overhaul the GAP/TEG solvent at the molecular level to mitigate hydrolysis and reduce viscosity. Molecular-level insights into chemical speciation of CO 2 -containing ions, show that co-solvents and diluents have a negligible effect on reducing viscosity and are not needed. This finding allowed for the design of single-component siloxane-free diamines with site-specific chemical moieties for direct placement and orientation of hydrogen bonding to reduce viscosity. The UiO-66-NCS MOF displays a ~20-fold increase in activity against the chemical warfare agent simulant dimethyl-4- nitrophenyl phosphate (DMNP) compared to UiO-66-NH 2 , making it the most active MOF materials as assessed using a previously validated high-throughput screening (HTS) method. More importantly, the -NCS functional groups provide reactive handles for postsynthetic polymerization (PSP) of these MOFs into functional materials. We show that these MOFs can be tethered to amine terminated polypropylene polymers (Jeffamines) through a facile room temperature synthesis with no byproducts. These MOFs are then crosslinked into a MOF-polythiourea (MOF-PTU) composite material that maintain the catalytic properties of the MOF and display the flexibility of the polymer. Furthermore, this MOF-PTU hybrid material was utilized as a spray coating onto Nyco textile fibers and displayed excellent adhesion to the fiber surface. Our results suggest that acupuncture may simultaneously modulate the rsFC of key regions in the descending pain modulation (PAG) and reward systems (VTA), and the amygdala may be a key node linking the two systems to produce antinociceptive effects. The fat content of Urda cheese was low, in accordance with the demand of consumers for healthy products. KS cheeses showed higher total volatile compounds than KG cheeses at 60 and 90 days of ripening and storage as well as lower counts of thermophilic-mesophilic lactic acid bacteria. No differences were observed in the microbial counts between US and UG cheeses. Acetone, hexanal, 2 heptanone, ethanol and toluene were found in abundance in Urda cheeses. Both kashkaval of Pindos and Urda cheeses received high scores during the organoleptic evaluation. A blockchain system has the potential to replace a traditional centralized trusted third party for crowdsensing services to perform operations that involve evaluating the quality of sensing data, finishing payment, and storing sensing data and so forth. The requirements which are codified as smart contracts are executed to evaluate the quality of sensing data in a blockchain. However, regardless of the fact that the quality of sensing data may actually be sufficient, one key challenge is that malicious requesters can deliberately publish abnormal requirements that cause failure to occur in the quality evaluation process. If requesters control a miner node or full node, they can access the data without making payment; this is because of the transparency of data stored in the blockchain. This issue promotes unfair dealing and severely lowers the motivation of workers to participate in crowdsensing tasks. We (i) propose a novel crowdsensing scheme to address this issue using Trusted Execution Environments; (ii) offer a solution for the confidentiality and integrity of sensing data, which is only accessible by the worker and corresponding requester; (iii) and finally, report on the implementation of a prototype and evaluate its performance. Our results demonstrate that the proposed solution can guarantee fairness without a significant increase in overhead.3D facial landmarks are known to be diagnostically relevant biometrics for many genetic syndromes. The objective of this study was to extend a state-of-the-art image-based 2D facial landmarking algorithm for the challenging task of 3D landmark identification on subjects with genetic syndromes, who often have moderate to severe facial dysmorphia. The automatic 3D facial landmarking algorithm presented here uses 2D image-based facial detection and landmarking models to identify 12 landmarks on 3D facial surface scans. The landmarking algorithm was evaluated using a test set of 444 facial scans with ground truth landmarks identified by two different human observers. Three hundred and sixty nine of the subjects in the test set had a genetic syndrome that is associated with facial dysmorphology. For comparison purposes, the manual landmarks were also used to initialize a non-linear surface-based registration of a non-syndromic atlas to each subject scan. Compared to the average intra- and inter-observer landmark distances of 1.1 mm and 1.5 mm respectively, the average distance between the manual landmark positions and those produced by the automatic image-based landmarking algorithm was 2.5 mm. The average error of the registration-based approach was 3.1 mm. Comparing the distributions of Procrustes distances from the mean for each landmarking approach showed that the surface registration algorithm produces a systemic bias towards the atlas shape. In summary, the image-based automatic landmarking approach performed well on this challenging test set, outperforming a semi-automatic surface registration approach, and producing landmark errors that are comparable to state-of-the-art 3D geometry-based facial landmarking algorithms evaluated on non-syndromic subjects.The importance of surface roughness and its non-destructive examination has often been emphasised in structural rehabilitation. The presented innovative procedure enables the estimation of concrete-to-concrete strength based on a combination of low-cost, area-limited tests and geostatistical methods. The new method removes the shortcomings of the existing one, i.e., it is neither qualitative nor subjective. The interface strength factors, cohesion and friction, can be estimated accurately based on the collected data on a surface texture. The data acquisition needed to create digital models of the concrete surface can be performed by terrestrial close-range photogrammetry or other methods. In the presented procedure, limitations to the availability of concrete surfaces are overcome by the generation of subsequential Gaussian random fields (via height profiles) based on the semivariograms fitted to the digital surface models. In this way, the randomness of the surface texture is reproduced. The selected roughness parameters, such as mean valley depth and, most importantly, the geostatistical semivariogram parameter sill, were transformed into contact bond strength parameters based on the available strength tests.
