The Covid-19 pandemic has caused a disproportionate impact on people with disabilities and the elderly. Moreover, the pandemic can be likened to disasters caused by catastrophic weather events which will increase in the future in response to climate change. To forestall these threats, rehabilitation professionals must to come together internationally to prepare and proactively educate their peers and patients. This can be done through observance of such times as Day for Tomorrow. Moreover, rehabilitation professionals need to transition to greener forms of healthcare in order to assure that in the future we all sustain our abilities.
The supply of N95 masks and filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) has been limited nationally owing to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Ultraviolet C (UVC) light has been suggested as a potential option for decontamination of FFRs by the Centers for Disease Control. There has been a lack of publications characterizing UVC dose distribution across FFRs.
A UVC light box and FFR rack system was assembled using low-pressure mercury lamps peaked at 254 nm and aluminum flashing to reduce shadowing effect. Dose was characterized with the use of ultraviolet (UV) intensity labels and an ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) National Institute of Standards and Technology traceable meter. Ozone production was evaluated after extended bulb run time.

Two major contributors to adolescents experiencing decreased sleep duration and quality, and thus increasing the risk for developing metabolic syndrome in adolescence as well as later in adulthood, are increased electronic screen time particularly at night and early school start times. The less time adolescents spend sleeping, the less quality sleep they obtain, and the greater the disruption of endocrine hormone function. As another consequence, adolescents are more prone to making poor food choices, from choosing relatively nutrient-poor foods to consuming excess calories without necessarily increasing their energy expenditure. These choices put adolescents at greater risk for becoming obese throughout their lifespan.Decades of population-based health outcomes data highlight the importance of understanding how environmental exposures in pregnancy affect maternal and neonatal outcomes. Animal model research and epidemiological studies have revealed that such exposures are able to alter fetal programming through stable changes in the epigenome, including altered DNA methylation patterns and histone modifications in the developing fetus and infant. It is similarly known that while microbes can biotransform environmental chemicals via conjugation and de-conjugation, specific exposures can also alter the community profile and function of the human microbiome. In this review, we consider how alterations to the maternal and or fetal/infant microbiome through environmental exposures could directly and indirectly alter fetal programming. We highlight two specific environmental exposures, cadmium (Cd) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and outline their effects on the developing fetus and the perinatal (maternal and fetal/infant) microbiome. We have developed a series of recommendations, belonging to our experience in any aspect of clinical trials. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) tends to be aggressive and metastatic, characteristics attributable to its cellular migration capabilities. Afzelin is a chemical compound with anti-metastatic potentials. This study aimed to predict proteins involved in TNBC cell migration which could be inhibited by afzelin.
The protein database was constructed from the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways collection which related to cell motility, then screened for druggability using SuperTarget and Therapeutic Target Database. The involvement of druggable proteins in the TNBC metastasis process was investigated through existing publications in The National Center for Biotechnology Information PubMed database. Inhibitory potential of afzelin toward target proteins was compared to the proteins' known-inhibitor, using the reverse docking method.
Ten proteins identified as potential targets of afzelin, with the top 3 being ERK2, KRas, and FAK, respectively. Afzelin's 3-O-rhamnoside group played a dominant role in forming hydrogen bonds with the target proteins.

ctice.Dothideomycetes is the largest class of kingdom Fungi and comprises an incredible diversity of lifestyles, many of which have evolved multiple times. Plant pathogens represent a major ecological niche of the class Dothideomycetes and they are known to infect most major food crops and feedstocks for biomass and biofuel production. Studying the ecology and evolution of Dothideomycetes has significant implications for our fundamental understanding of fungal evolution, their adaptation to stress and host specificity, and practical implications with regard to the effects of climate change and on the food, feed, and livestock elements of the agro-economy. In this study, we present the first large-scale, whole-genome comparison of 101 Dothideomycetes introducing 55 newly sequenced species. The availability of whole-genome data produced a high-confidence phylogeny leading to reclassification of 25 organisms, provided a clearer picture of the relationships among the various families, and indicated that pathogenicity evolved multiple times within this class. We also identified gene family expansions and contractions across the Dothideomycetes phylogeny linked to ecological niches providing insights into genome evolution and adaptation across this group. Using machine-learning methods we classified fungi into lifestyle classes with >95 % accuracy and identified a small number of gene families that positively correlated with these distinctions. This can become a valuable tool for genome-based prediction of species lifestyle, especially for rarely seen and poorly studied species. © 2020 Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute. Using a perspective based on quality of life and well-being in different ecological systems, it is argued that the process of introducing the Bill is the "heat" which has ignited the "fuels" represented by 12 pre-existing and new issues in quality of life and well-being. These issues included distrust in the Central Government, lack of national identity, political dissatisfaction, economic strains, mental health threats, drop in family quality of life, lack of life skills education, lack of evidence-based national education in the formal curriculum, slow response of the Government, and alleged excessive use of force by the police. The fire has been intensified by "four strong winds", including disinformation and misinformation, anonymity of the protesters, public support for the students, and support given by parties outside Hong Kong. Possible solutions in terms of promotion of quality of life and well-being with reference to the fire triangle are discussed. © The Author(s) 2020.We present a case of a 16-year-old boy who underwent 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT for residual disease assessment of juvenile nasal angiofibroma. Positive uptake was noted in residual tumor on PET/CT imaging. However, there was no abnormal uptake in surrounding scar tissues as compared with contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging. He was found to have extensive skeletal metastasis along with cartilage metastasis involving both thyroid and cricoid cartilages. © Korean Society of Nuclear Medicine 2019.A 33-year-old man was evaluated because of an incidentally found cyst in the pancreatic tail, which was first seen 6 years ago. The cyst was a unilocular cystic mass, 13.0 cm in diameter, and had increased in size in last 2 months. On F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT), the cystic wall showed increased FDG uptake. The patient underwent distal pancreatectomy with suspicion of mucinous cystic neoplasm of the pancreas. The mass turned out to be a squamous carcinoma arising from an epidermoid cyst in an intrapancreatic accessory spleen (ECIPAS). FDG PET/CT may assist recognition of a potential malignant lesion arising from an ECIPAS. © Korean Society of Nuclear Medicine 2019.

The ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic has affected abortion providers and abortion care, and the strategies clinics are adopting to navigate the pandemic, have not been well documented.
In April-May 2020, representatives from 103 independent abortion clinics (i.e., those not affiliated with Planned Parenthood) completed a survey that included close-ended questions about how the pandemic, the public health response, and designations of abortion as a nonessential service had affected their clinic, as well as open-ended questions about the pandemic's impact. Analyses were primarily descriptive but included an exploration of regional variation.
All U.S. regions were represented in the sample. At 51% of clinics, clinicians or staff had been unable to work because of the pandemic or public health responses. Temporary closures were more common among clinics in the South (35%) and Midwest (21%) than in the Northeast and West (5% each). More than half of clinics had canceled or postponed nonabortion services (e.g., general gynecologic care); cancelation or postponement of abortion services was less common (25-38%, depending on type) and again especially prevalent in the South and Midwest. Respondents reported the pandemic had had numerous effects on their clinics, including disrupting their workforce, clinic flow and work practices; increasing expenses; and reducing revenues. State laws (including designations of abortion as nonessential) had exacerbated these difficulties.
Although independent abortion clinics have faced considerable challenges from the pandemic, most continued to provide abortion care. Despite this resiliency, additional support may be needed to ensure sustainability of these clinics.

We present data from our recently completed study that suggests that joint salvage is the key parameter in keeping the limb salvage ethos relevant.
We reviewed all patients operated on nationally over 30years (1978 to 2008). We identified 265 survivors of which 162 were available for evaluation at the time of survey.
There were 92 males and 70 females followed an average 9.1±SD3.1years. Average age at survey was 38±SD17years. ANOVA for mental health and TESS degree of importance for ADL identified that all categories of joint preservation were similar to an average group of people from the population. Physical health scores were significantly better amongst joint-preserved versus joint replacement patients (p=0.003). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Chlorogenic-acid.html Nevertheless, there was no significant difference between amputees with respect to physical health scores compared to arthrodesed and joint-replaced individuals. Biological reconstructions scored significantly better than metallic segmentary reconstructions (p<0.001). While our study supports the finding of amputations being as satisfactory as arthrodeses and joint replacement salvage surgery, joint salvage was superior to all other categories. Assessments of equivalence should incorporate joint salvage and materials used as evaluable parameters.

The aim of this systematic review was (1) to identify the brain regions involved in anxiety in Parkinson's disease (PD) based on neuroimaging studies and (2) to interpret the findings against the background of dysfunction of the fear circuit and limbic cortico-striato-thalamocortical circuit.

The effectiveness of household contact investigations is limited by low referral uptake for clinic-based TB testing by symptomatic household contacts. We qualitatively investigated the acceptability and perceived benefits of home-based TB testing using a portable GeneXpert-I instrument (GX-I) in an urban South African township.
In-depth interviews were conducted with household contacts tested and those that observed testing. Semi-structured interviews explored household contact's understanding of TB, perceptions of the GX-I device and testing procedures, confidentiality, willingness to refer others, and views on home- vs. clinic-based testing. Focus group discussions with home-based TB testing implementing staff assessed operational considerations for scale-up. Data were analysed using a constant comparison approach to qualitatively evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of home-based TB testing.

The ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic has affected abortion providers and abortion care, and the strategies clinics are adopting to navigate the pandemic, have not been well documented. In April-May 2020, representatives from 103 independent abortion clinics (i.e., those not affiliated with Planned Parenthood) completed a survey that included close-ended questions about how the pandemic, the public health response, and designations of abortion as a nonessential service had affected their clinic, as well as open-ended questions about the pandemic's impact. Analyses were primarily descriptive but included an exploration of regional variation. All U.S. regions were represented in the sample. At 51% of clinics, clinicians or staff had been unable to work because of the pandemic or public health responses. Temporary closures were more common among clinics in the South (35%) and Midwest (21%) than in the Northeast and West (5% each). More than half of clinics had canceled or postponed nonabortion services (e.g., general gynecologic care); cancelation or postponement of abortion services was less common (25-38%, depending on type) and again especially prevalent in the South and Midwest. Respondents reported the pandemic had had numerous effects on their clinics, including disrupting their workforce, clinic flow and work practices; increasing expenses; and reducing revenues. State laws (including designations of abortion as nonessential) had exacerbated these difficulties. Although independent abortion clinics have faced considerable challenges from the pandemic, most continued to provide abortion care. We present data from our recently completed study that suggests that joint salvage is the key parameter in keeping the limb salvage ethos relevant. We reviewed all patients operated on nationally over 30years (1978 to 2008). We identified 265 survivors of which 162 were available for evaluation at the time of survey. There were 92 males and 70 females followed an average 9.1±SD3.1years. Average age at survey was 38±SD17years. ANOVA for mental health and TESS degree of importance for ADL identified that all categories of joint preservation were similar to an average group of people from the population. Ophiopogonis radix and Liriopes radix are well known for the treatment of dry coughs and phthisis. Liriopes radix is occasionally used as a substitute for Ophiopogonis radix in various prescriptions due to the extremely similar pharmacological activities and clinical efficacies, but they are regarded as two different remedies in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Accordingly, the establishment of a reliable analytical approach for the discrimination and quality evaluation of Ophiopogonis and Liriopes is required.

A study was conducted to validate the Soleris method for detection of Enterobacteriaceae in select foods (pasteurized milk, yogurt, mozzarella cheese, ice cream, dried milk, pasteurized liquid egg, frozen cooked chicken, deli ham, lettuce, and dry dog food) at a threshold of ≥ 10 CFU/g of product.
Inclusivity and exclusivity of the Soleris method were assessed by testing 55 and 38 target and non-target bacterial strains, respectively. Matrix testing was performed with one naturally contaminated and nine inoculated foods. Efficacy of the Soleris method was compared to that of the ISO 21528-22017 direct plating reference method using probability of detection analysis. Independent laboratory testing was conducted to verify method performance in two matrixes (yogurt and deli ham). Method robustness, stability, and lot-to-lot consistency of the Soleris reagents were also assessed.
Inclusivity of the Soleris test was 91% and exclusivity was 100%. In matrix testing, there were no significant differences in the number of positive results obtained with the Soleris and reference methods for any of the matrixes examined. Overall, of 370 test portions, there were 176 positive results by the Soleris method and 177 positive results by the reference procedure.

Aflatoxin (AF) contamination is one of the major regulatory concerns for animal feed. As feed is a complex analytical matrix, validated methods on AFs in feed are scanty. The available methods involve a derivatization step before AF analysis by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection (FLD). The aim of this study was thus to develop and validate a simple and rapid method for direct analysis of AFs (AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, AFG2) in a range of animal feed matrices.
Feed samples were extracted with 80% methanol, followed by dilution with water and immmunoaffinity column cleanup. AFs were estimated using an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) instrument. Use of a large volume flow cell in FLD allowed direct analysis of all AFs with high sensitivity. The method was thoroughly validated in a range of feed matrices.
This sample preparation workflow minimized co-extractives, along with matrix interferences. In pigeon pea husk feed, the method provided a limit of quantization.

We could control the highest and the mean X-ray energies generated from the transmission-type anode using the anode voltage. For the same anode voltage and aluminum filtration, when we compared the X-ray energy spectrum generated from the transmission-type anode with that of the conventional reflection-type anode, we observed that the two energy spectra agreed with each other.The aim of this work was to identify stable topical platform cream formulations (placebo creams without active drug substance) using the quality attributes of cream consistency, droplet size distribution ( less then 1 μm), and separation or instability index of less then 0.1 to accelerate the development of topical cream drug product. The formulations were developed with six emulsifier systems that were screened in three different solvent systems across a range of emulsifier ratios. Each formulation was characterized by microscopy, separation index, and consistency. The results showed that there are three emulsifier combination (PEG 40 stearateGMS, S21S2, and PEG 40 stearateSpan 60) that works well with the solvent systems. Platform cream formulations F4, F15, F33, F40, F52, F69, F77, F87, and F106 were found to meet the three criteria for a long-term stable platform cream formulation. Formulation development for topical administered drug product can be very time consuming, expensive, and resourceful in identifying a chemically and physically stable product. In early development, where it can take 1-2 years to develop a first time in human (FTIH) formulation for a new chemical entity. The use of the platform base cream formulations will expedite the early development timeline for new chemical entity by 3-6 months.Objective This study aimed to investigate the incidence rates, risk factors, and clinical implications of delayed hypoparathyroidism on postoperative day two (POD-2) after total thyroidectomy in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma. Methods This study included 410 patients with normal serum intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) and calcium levels on POD-1 who were classified into two groups according to the presence or absence of delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2. Results Of the 410 patients, 98 experienced delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2 (23.9%). The significant risk factors for delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2 included female gender, age older than 45 years, central lymph node dissection, increased number of excised lymph nodes, and low POD-1 versus preoperative iPTH ratios. Additionally, delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2 was found to be a significant risk factor for hypocalcemia on POD-2 and permanent hypoparathyroidism. Conclusion Prophylactic calcium supplementation and long-term surveillance for permanent hypoparathyroidism should be considered in patients with risk factors for delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2.Obesity is characterized by excessive fat accumulation and inflammation. We aimed to investigate GLUT12 expression in obesity and aging, and under diet supplementation with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) alone or in combination with physical exercise in ****. Aging increased GLUT12 expression in intestine, kidney and adipose tissue, whereas obesity reduced it. No changes on the transporter occurred in skeletal muscle. In obese 18-months-old ****, DHA further decreased GLUT12 in the four organs. Aerobic exercise alone did not modify GLUT12, but the changes triggered by exercise were able to prevent DHA diminishing effect, and almost restored GLUT12 basal levels. The available tissue adhesives for intracorporal use and their relevant clinical evidence were then presented. Lastly, the perspective of future development for intracorporal tissue adhesive were discussed. We could control the highest and the mean X-ray energies generated from the transmission-type anode using the anode voltage. For the same anode voltage and aluminum filtration, when we compared the X-ray energy spectrum generated from the transmission-type anode with that of the conventional reflection-type anode, we observed that the two energy spectra agreed with each other.The aim of this work was to identify stable topical platform cream formulations (placebo creams without active drug substance) using the quality attributes of cream consistency, droplet size distribution ( less then 1 μm), and separation or instability index of less then 0.1 to accelerate the development of topical cream drug product. The formulations were developed with six emulsifier systems that were screened in three different solvent systems across a range of emulsifier ratios. Each formulation was characterized by microscopy, separation index, and consistency. The results showed that there are three emulsifier combination (PEG 40 stearateGMS, S21S2, and PEG 40 stearateSpan 60) that works well with the solvent systems. Platform cream formulations F4, F15, F33, F40, F52, F69, F77, F87, and F106 were found to meet the three criteria for a long-term stable platform cream formulation. Formulation development for topical administered drug product can be very time consuming, expensive, and resourceful in identifying a chemically and physically stable product. In early development, where it can take 1-2 years to develop a first time in human (FTIH) formulation for a new chemical entity. The use of the platform base cream formulations will expedite the early development timeline for new chemical entity by 3-6 months.Objective This study aimed to investigate the incidence rates, risk factors, and clinical implications of delayed hypoparathyroidism on postoperative day two (POD-2) after total thyroidectomy in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma. Methods This study included 410 patients with normal serum intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) and calcium levels on POD-1 who were classified into two groups according to the presence or absence of delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2. Results Of the 410 patients, 98 experienced delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2 (23.9%). The significant risk factors for delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2 included female gender, age older than 45 years, central lymph node dissection, increased number of excised lymph nodes, and low POD-1 versus preoperative iPTH ratios. Additionally, delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2 was found to be a significant risk factor for hypocalcemia on POD-2 and permanent hypoparathyroidism. Conclusion Prophylactic calcium supplementation and long-term surveillance for permanent hypoparathyroidism should be considered in patients with risk factors for delayed hypoparathyroidism on POD-2.Obesity is characterized by excessive fat accumulation and inflammation. We aimed to investigate GLUT12 expression in obesity and aging, and under diet supplementation with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) alone or in combination with physical exercise in mice. Aging increased GLUT12 expression in intestine, kidney and adipose tissue, whereas obesity reduced it. No changes on the transporter occurred in skeletal muscle. In obese 18-months-old mice, DHA further decreased GLUT12 in the four organs. Aerobic exercise alone did not modify GLUT12, but the changes triggered by exercise were able to prevent DHA diminishing effect, and almost restored GLUT12 basal levels. We highlight the importance of multimodal imaging in the diagnosis of ALCAPA syndrome in a young asymptomatic female patient with inducible ischemia on exercise. Two experimental diets were used alfalfa pellet diet (AP) and artificial grain diet (GD). Final weight, feed conversion rate, and protein efficiency ratio were significantly greater in the GD group (P less then 0.05). However, no differences in the length and condition factor were observed. The composition of the meat differed between treatments. The protein content was significantly greater in the AP group (P less then 0.05), while the lipid and cholesterol content was significantly greater in the GD group (P less then 0.05). A greater proportion of saturated, n-6 polyunsaturated, and n-6 highly unsaturated fatty acids was obtained in the GD group. The AP group accumulated a greater concentration of eicosapentaenoic (EPA), docosapentaenoic (DPA), and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acids (P less then 0.05). The fatty acid composition of the meat determined a significant decrease in the thrombogenicity index and saturation index (P/S) in the AP group (P less then 0.05). The Elongase index was greater in the GD group (P less then 0.05). In contrast, the AP group had a greater index of Δ9 Desaturase and Δ5 + Δ6 Desaturase for n-3 and n-6 fatty acids (P less then 0.05). These results suggest that alfalfa feeding decreases the growth of C. idella but improves the quality of meat by increasing the protein, EPA, and DHA contents. The impact of these limitations are further compounded by the scale of the data, and in turn, also limits viable geocoding strategies. For example, healthcare data is protected by patient privacy laws in addition to possible institutional regulations that restrict external transmission and sharing of data. This results in the implementation of "in-house" geocoding solutions where data is processed behind an organization's firewall; quality assurance for these implementations is problematic because sensitive data cannot be used to externally validate results. In this paper, we present our software framework called bench4gis which benchmarks privacy-aware geocoding solutions by leveraging open big data as surrogate data for quality assurance; the scale of open big data sets for address data can ensure that results are geographically meaningful for the locale of the implementing institution.Retrospective analysis of 20 water systems from the USEPA's Arsenic Demonstration Program revealed three patterns of arsenic levels at the tap, after arsenic treatment of the source well water. Following an initial destabilization period, Pattern A systems (6/20 with low iron/manganese in source water and plastic piping) had arsenic concentrations that did not change as water traveled to consumer taps (conservative contaminant behavior). Pattern B systems (8/20 with high iron/manganese in source water and iron piping) had consistently higher arsenic concentrations at consumer taps, above the arsenic content of incoming treated water, for months to more than a year after arsenic treatment (non-conservative behavior). Pattern C systems (6/20 with additional occasional arsenic treatment complications) experienced multiple arsenic spikes at consumer taps (non-conservative and unpredictable behavior). These field observations suggest that in some water distribution systems arsenic may linger long after it has been removed at its source.Background Since 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended a commercially available lateral-flow urine LAM test (Alere-LAM) to assist in the diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) in severely ill people living with HIV (PLHIV). The test can rapidly detect TB in severely ill PLHIV and can identify PLHIV most at-risk of death, leading to mortality reductions. However, its uptake in countries with high burdens of TB and HIV has been slow. To assess the current use landscape and identify barriers to the adoption of Alere-LAM, we conducted a questionnaire-based study in 31 high TB and HIV/AIDS burden countries. Methods Between November 2018 and December 2019, we collected responses to a semi-structured questionnaire that had been emailed to staff and affiliates of National TB Programs or HIV/AIDS Programs, Ministries of Health, and TB or HIV institutes of 31 high TB/HIV burden countries. Questions concerned country policies, adoption, and current use of Alere-LAM testing, as well as testing algorithms and DN et al.A 40-year old woman with recent asymmetric arthritis and fever was evaluated in our clinic. NSAIDs were recommended, but a few days later she was admitted to our hospital because of worsening arthritis along with the appearance of new skin lesions in both feet. Although she was treated with antibiotics and high dosages of steroids, her arthritis did not improve. The skin lesions progressed from bullous initially to ulcerative pyoderma gangrenosum, so we suggested endoscopic examination of the colon which revealed Crohn's disease. The patient received I.V. treatment with infliximab resulting in a remarkable response. The AP group accumulated a greater concentration of eicosapentaenoic (EPA), docosapentaenoic (DPA), and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acids (P less then 0.05). The fatty acid composition of the meat determined a significant decrease in the thrombogenicity index and saturation index (P/S) in the AP group (P less then 0.05). The Elongase index was greater in the GD group (P less then 0.05). In contrast, the AP group had a greater index of Δ9 Desaturase and Δ5 + Δ6 Desaturase for n-3 and n-6 fatty acids (P less then 0.05). These results suggest that alfalfa feeding decreases the growth of C. idella but improves the quality of meat by increasing the protein, EPA, and DHA contents. This results in the implementation of "in-house" geocoding solutions where data is processed behind an organization's firewall; quality assurance for these implementations is problematic because sensitive data cannot be used to externally validate results. In this paper, we present our software framework called bench4gis which benchmarks privacy-aware geocoding solutions by leveraging open big data as surrogate data for quality assurance; the scale of open big data sets for address data can ensure that results are geographically meaningful for the locale of the implementing institution.Retrospective analysis of 20 water systems from the USEPA's Arsenic Demonstration Program revealed three patterns of arsenic levels at the tap, after arsenic treatment of the source well water. Following an initial destabilization period, Pattern A systems (6/20 with low iron/manganese in source water and plastic piping) had arsenic concentrations that did not change as water traveled to consumer taps (conservative contaminant behavior). Banana (Musa spp. L.) is an important staple food and cash crop for about 30% of the population in Tanzania; however, the burrowing plant-parasitic nematode Radopholus similis causes black head disease and toppling in banana plants, which results in yield losses. We collected and identified 80 specimens of R. similis from four agro-ecological zones in Tanzania using morphological characters. We then used universal and specific R. similis primers to amplify the small subunit, internal transcribed spacer and large subunit of ribosomal DNA regions of these specimens. The amplicons were subsequently sequenced and analyzed using Bayesian inference. We identified two major clades, one that comprised all R. similis sequences derived from this study and another that included R. similis and Radopholus spp. sequences obtained from GenBank, indicating the separation of this species from congeneric sequences. Our findings provide a useful, simple and rapid method for identifying burrowing nematodes. This outcome could contribute to the development of permanent, integrated pest management strategies for the control of R. similis in banana and other crops in order to reduce associated yield losses in Tanzania. A series of lab assays (water and sand screening) and glasshouse experiments (using soilless system, autoclaved soil, and naturally infested soil) were conducted to examine the nematicidal effects of AgNP. The results from lab assays revealed 0.1 µg/ml as the minimum concentration for 100% irreversible nematode mortality after 12 hr in the water screening test. However, results from the sand screening test indicated 100% nematicidal effect of AgNP at 2 µg/ml after 24 hr of incubation. In glasshouse assays in soilless system of rice cultivation, 1 µg/ml concentration of AgNP applied directly to the trays achieved significant suppression of root gall formation. In both years, Meloidogyne and Heterodera were present in less than half of the surveyed fields while Pratylenchus was the most prevalent in 2013 and Helicotylenchus in 2014. A microplot study was conducted in 2014 in two locations to evaluate the effects of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita, race 3) and soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines, HG type 2.5.7) on plant growth, yield and food quality components of edamame. Yield was the most consistent factor influenced by nematode pressure with increasing nematode population densities resulting in suppressed pod and seed weight. Additionally, seed protein content was reduced in the highest tested population density of H. glycines. In greenhouse studies, 22 advanced edamame breeding lines from the University of Arkansas soybean breeding program were compared with two susceptible commercial cultivars for suitability as hosts for both M. incognita and H. glycines independently. Four lines showed consistent reductions in M. incognita reproduction relative to the commercial cultivars and could represent sources of moderate resistance for development of future root-knot nematode resistant edamame cultivars.

Discharge delays for non-medical reasons put patients at unnecessary risk for hospital-acquired infections, lead to loss of revenue for hospitals and reduce hospital capacity to treat other patients. The objective of this study was to determine prevalence of, and patient characteristics associated with, delays in discharge at an urban county trauma service.
We performed a retrospective cohort study with data from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFGH), a level-1 trauma center and safety net hospital in San Francisco, California. The study included 1720 patients from the trauma surgery service at ZSFGH. A 'delay in discharge' was defined as days in the hospital, including an initial overnight stay, after all medical needs had been met. We used logistic and zero-inflated negative binomial regression models to test whether the following factors were associated with prolonged, non-medical length of stay age, gender, race/ethnicity, housing, disposition location, type of insurance, having a primary l, Level III.

This paper presents a subset of the metrics - grasp strength, grasp cycle time, finger strength, and finger repeatability - with accompanying measurement techniques and supporting test artifacts. The application of these metrics and protocols is demonstrated using example implementations to characterize a variety of robot end-effectors, with example data sets and test designs provided for downloading.
