As a widely existing traditional Chinese medicine component, TP (triptolide) has serious reproductive toxicity which causes severe damage to the reproductive system and limits its application prospect. TP and MET (metformin) have shown great potential in combined with each other in anticancer and anti-inflammatory. Whether metformin can resist the reproductive toxicity caused by triptolide, the effects of MET on TP-induced reproductive capacity has not been reported. In this study, metformin was used to investigate the therapeutic effect on reproductive toxicity induced by TP in rat. The results showed that metformin had significant therapeutic effects on oxidative stress damage, destruction of the blood-testosterone barrier and apoptosis. And it proved that its therapeutic effect is mainly to restore the structural and functional stability of testis through antioxidant stress. It will provide guidance for the treatment of reproductive toxicity caused by TP and the adjuvant detoxification of TP application.Severe haze events, especially with high concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), are frequent in China, which have gained increasing attention among public. The purpose of our study was explored the toxic effects and potential damage mechanisms about PM2.5 acute exposure. Here, the diverse dosages of PM2.5 were used to treat SD rats and human bronchial epithelial cell (BEAS-2B) for 24 h, and then the bioassays were performed at the end of exposure. The results show that acute exposure to diverse dosages of PM2.5 could trigger the inflammatory response and apoptosis. The severely oxidative stress may contribute to the apoptosis. Also, the activation of Nrf2-ARE pathway was an important compensatory process of antioxidant damage during the early stage of acute exposure to PM2.5. Furthermore, the HO-1 was suppression by siRNA that promoted cell apoptosis triggered by PM2.5. In other words, enhancing the expression of HO-1 may mitigate the cell apoptosis caused by acute exposure to PM2.5. In summary, our findings present the first time that prevent or mitigate the damage triggered by PM2.5 through antioxidant approaches was a promising strategy.Inorganic arsenic compounds are environmental toxicants that are widely distributed in air, water, and food. B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2) is an oncogene having anti-apoptotic function. In this study, we clarify that BCL-2, as a pro-apoptotic factor, participates in As2O3-induced apoptosis in BEAS-2B cells. Specifically, As2O3 stimulated the expression of BCL-2 mRNA and protein in a dose-dependent manner which was highly accumulated in the nucleus of BEAS-2B cell together with chromatin condensation and DNA fragmentation during apoptosis. Mechanistically, the process described above is mediated through the NF-κB and p38 MAPK signaling pathways, which can be abated by corresponding inhibitors, such as BAY11-7082 and SB203580, respectively. Additionally, BAY11-7082, actinomycin D, and cycloheximide have inhibitory effects on As2O3-induced expression of BCL-2 mRNA and protein, and restore the cell viability of BEAS-2B cells. Suppression of BCL-2 protein activation by ABT-199 also restored viability of BEAS-2B cell in As2O3-induced apoptosis. Furthermore, As2O3 increased the level of BCL-2 phosphorylation. These results suggest that in BEAS-2B cells, As2O3-induced apoptosis is mainly dominated by BCL-2 upregulation, nuclear localization and phosphorylation. The study presented here provides a novel insight into the molecular mechanism of BCL-2-induced apoptosis.The natural co-occurrence of multiple mycotoxins has been reported in cereals and cereal products worldwide. Even though the dietary exposure to mycotoxins constitutes a serious human health, most reports are limited to the toxic effect of individual mycotoxins. The purpose of the present study was to assess the combined toxic effects of zearalenone (ZEN) and fumonisin B1 (FB1) and the potential interaction of their mixture on zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos. Our results showed that ZEN possessed the higher toxicity to embryonic zebrafish (7-day LC50 value of 0.78 mg a.i. L-1) compared with FB1 (7-day LC50 value of 227.7 mg a.i. L-1). The combination of ZEN and FB1 exerted an additive effect on zebrafish embryos. Meanwhile, the activities of antioxidant CAT, caspase-3, and detoxification enzyme CYP450, as well as the expressions of six genes (Mn-***, cas9, bax, cc-chem, ERα, and crh) associated with oxidative stress, cellular apoptosis, immune system, and endocrine system were prominently altered in the mixture exposure compared with the corresponding single treatment group of ZEN or FB1. Taken together, the regulatory standards of mycotoxins in food and feed should be updated based on the mixture effects of mycotoxins, and there is an increased need on effective detoxification methods for controlling and reducing the toxicity of multiple mycotoxins in animal feed and throughout the food supply chain.Noscapine is a natural product first isolated from the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) with anticancer properties. In this work, we report the synthesis and cellular screening of a noscapine-based library. A library of novel noscapine derivatives was synthesized with modifications in the isoquinoline and phthalide scaffolds. The so generated library, consisting of fifty-seven derivatives of the natural product noscapine, was tested against MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells in a cellular proliferation assay (with a Z' > 0.7). The screening resulted in the identification of two novel noscapine derivatives as inhibitors of MDA cell growth with IC50 values of 5 µM and 1.5 µM, respectively. Both hit molecules have a five-fold and seventeen-fold higher potency, compared with that of lead compound noscapine (IC50 26 µM). The identified active derivatives retain the tubulin-binding ability of noscapine. Lynch syndrome (LS) is a genetic cancer syndrome that puts affected individuals at a significantly higher risk of developing multiple cancers. Participants (n = 57) were recruited through social media. Data were collected through online surveys and phone interviews; the interview data (n = 55) were analyzed to identify provider terminations and the factors that motivated these decisions. Results indicate that individuals with LS terminated their patient-provider relationships due to lack of provider LS knowledge, poor interactions, or a combination of both factors. Findings from this study suggest a need for better interactions between LS patients and providers and increased knowledge of LS-specific care.Virtual models of care are seen as a sustainable solution to the growing demand for health care. This paper analyses the experience of virtual care among patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in home isolation or health hotel quarantine using a patient-reported experience questionnaire. Results found that patients respond well to virtual models of care during a pandemic. Lessons learned can inform future developments of virtual care models.Weight management interventions have the potential to reduce body mass index and help families adopt healthier behaviors. This study examined feedback from families to identify central aspects of various intervention strategies based on self-determination theory constructs that have the strongest influence on patient success, with the aim of understanding how best to approach weight management in a clinical pediatric setting. Telephone interviews were conducted with 22 individuals (20 parents/guardians and 2 teenagers) who participated in a multidisciplinary weight management program and data was analyzed using inductive and deductive thematic analysis processes. Participants identified motivational interviewing strategies that were most influential to their success. Parents and patient's identified barriers and facilitators to success included patient readiness to change, personal logistics, family engagement, and establishing long- and short-term goals. Successful pediatric obesity management requires consideration to both the patient and family's readiness, structured implementation adaptations to address barriers, intentional efforts to move from external reward to internal motivation, and strategies to ensure families develop self-efficacy toward achievable healthy behaviors.Measuring patients' care experience is necessary to understanding and improving health care quality and is a core component of patient-centered care. In this study, we test whether patient health care experiences differed between patients with and without health-related social needs, above and beyond demographic differences previously studied. Items and factors were also assessed against 2 global measures of patient satisfaction. One hundred and one survey responses were returned and subjected to factorial analysis. Results indicated that factors of trust, empathy, and relatedness were not distinguishable and subsequently combined to represent a single factor, the therapeutic relationship. A final 5-factor model is proposed incorporating 3 interpersonal factors (communication, expectation, therapeutic relationship) and 2 environmental factors (clinic wait time, clinical contact time). The factors identified by this study should be considered in surveys evaluating patient satisfaction with orthopedic outpatient services.The gender-based differences in satisfaction on the service quality of the Upazila Health Complex (UHC) in Bangladesh are assessed in this paper using the SERVQUAL model. Two Upazila, field administrative unit of Bangladesh, of Meherpur district of Bangladesh, were selected to conduct the study. The study used a quantitative approach, primarily using the survey method. The research found that the perception of male and female on service quality of UHC varies significantly. Though they have a similar perception of reliability dimension, females still have a comparatively more positive perception of accessibility, tangibles, empathy, and responsiveness dimensions to UHC than male service receivers. The regression result showed that responsiveness is the key factor to bring satisfaction in service, while empathy and accessibility moderately influence service receivers' satisfaction. The findings will be useful for policymakers, public health stakeholders, earnest learners, practitioners, and academia.Hospital medicine ward rounds are often conducted away from patients' bedsides, but it is unknown if more time-at-bedside is associated with improved patient outcomes. "Time-at-bedside" was defined as the proportion of time spent discussing a patient's care in his or her room. Patient experience and patient-clinician care agreement both were measured immediately after ward rounds. Results demonstrated that the majority of patient and physicians completely agreement on planned tests (66.3%), planned procedures (79.7%), medication changes (50.6%), and discharge location (66.9%), but had no agreement on the patient's main concern (74.4%) and discharge date (50.6%). Nano- and microcrystalline ZnO is an inexpensive, easily synthesized material with a multitude of applications. Its usefulness in the present and future stems from its exceptional optoelectronic, structural, and chemical characteristics as well as a broad range of production techniques. One application comes from its ability to inhibit bacterial growth. Despite the well-documented, vigorously studied antimicrobial action of ZnO particles, the most fundamental physical and chemical mechanisms driving growth inhibition are still not well identified. Particularly, the nature of interactions between ZnO surfaces and extracellular material is not totally clear. This is important given the anisotropic lattice of ZnO leading to two characteristically different lattice terminations polar and nonpolar, polar being electrically charged with many defect sites and nonpolar being electrically neutral while remaining relatively defect-free. In this work, we employ a hydrothermal growth protocol that allows us to produce ZnO microcrystals with dependable control of morphology and, particularly, the relative abundances of polar and nonpolar free surfaces. This functions as a platform for our investigations into surface-surface interactions behind the antibacterial action of ZnO microcrystals. In our studies, we produced ZnO crystals comparable in size or larger than Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This was done intentionally to ensure that the ZnO particles would not internalize into the bacterial cells. Our experiments were performed in conjunction with surface photovoltage studies of ZnO crystals to characterize electronic structure and charge dynamics that might be contributing to the antibacterial properties of our samples. We report on the interactions between ZnO microcrystalline surfaces and extracellular material of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic human pathogen implicated in both acute and chronic diseases, which resists antibiotic treatment, in part by forming physical and chemical barriers such as biofilms. Here, we explore the use of confocal Raman imaging to characterize the three-dimensional (3D) spatial distribution of alkyl quinolones (AQs) in P. aeruginosa biofilms by reconstructing depth profiles from hyperspectral Raman data. AQs are important to quorum sensing (QS), virulence, and other actions of P. aeruginosa. Three-dimensional distributions of three different AQs (PQS, HQNO, and HHQ) were observed to have a significant depth, suggesting 3D anisotropic shapes-sheet-like rectangular solids for HQNO and extended cylinders for PQS. Similar to observations from 2D imaging studies, spectral features characteristic of AQs (HQNO or PQS) and the amide I vibration from peptide-containing species were found to correlate with the PQS cylinders typically located at the tips of the HQNO rectangular solids. In the QS-deficient mutant lasIrhlI, a small globular component was observed, whose highly localized nature and similarity in size to a P. aeruginosa cell suggest that the feature arises from HHQ localized in the vicinity of the cell from which it was secreted. The difference in the shapes and sizes of the aggregates of the three AQs in wild-type and mutant P. aeruginosa is likely related to the difference in the cellular response to growth conditions, environmental stress, metabolic levels, or other structural and biochemical variations inside biofilms. https://www.selleckchem.com/ This study provides a new route to characterizing the 3D structure of biofilms and shows the potential of confocal Raman imaging to elucidate the nature of heterogeneous biofilms in all three spatial dimensions. Nano- and microcrystalline ZnO is an inexpensive, easily synthesized material with a multitude of applications. Its usefulness in the present and future stems from its exceptional optoelectronic, structural, and chemical characteristics as well as a broad range of production techniques. One application comes from its ability to inhibit bacterial growth. Despite the well-documented, vigorously studied antimicrobial action of ZnO particles, the most fundamental physical and chemical mechanisms driving growth inhibition are still not well identified. Particularly, the nature of interactions between ZnO surfaces and extracellular material is not totally clear. This is important given the anisotropic lattice of ZnO leading to two characteristically different lattice terminations polar and nonpolar, polar being electrically charged with many defect sites and nonpolar being electrically neutral while remaining relatively defect-free. In this work, we employ a hydrothermal growth protocol that allows us to produce ZnO microcrystals with dependable control of morphology and, particularly, the relative abundances of polar and nonpolar free surfaces. This functions as a platform for our investigations into surface-surface interactions behind the antibacterial action of ZnO microcrystals. In our studies, we produced ZnO crystals comparable in size or larger than Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This was done intentionally to ensure that the ZnO particles would not internalize into the bacterial cells. Our experiments were performed in conjunction with surface photovoltage studies of ZnO crystals to characterize electronic structure and charge dynamics that might be contributing to the antibacterial properties of our samples. Three-dimensional distributions of three different AQs (PQS, HQNO, and HHQ) were observed to have a significant depth, suggesting 3D anisotropic shapes-sheet-like rectangular solids for HQNO and extended cylinders for PQS. Similar to observations from 2D imaging studies, spectral features characteristic of AQs (HQNO or PQS) and the amide I vibration from peptide-containing species were found to correlate with the PQS cylinders typically located at the tips of the HQNO rectangular solids. In the QS-deficient mutant lasIrhlI, a small globular component was observed, whose highly localized nature and similarity in size to a P. aeruginosa cell suggest that the feature arises from HHQ localized in the vicinity of the cell from which it was secreted. Following explantation, hearts were heterotopically transplanted. After one hour reperfusion, left ventricular pressure-volume relations and coronary blood flow were recorded. Molecular biological measurements and histological examination were also completed. Men who maintained a heavy volume of drinking over the three decades of observation, or who had an unstable consumption pattern, tended to have worse sleep profiles in terms of waking tired and waking several times. Sustained male hazardous drinking (as measured by the AUDIT-C scale) was also associated with worse sleep profiles. Findings for women were not so clear. In this population based setting, drinking high volumes of alcohol may contribute to the prevalence of sleep problems in older age, particularly for men. People in this age group should be discouraged from using alcohol as a sleep aid.Although a meta-analysis previously suggested a positive relationship between diabetes and intraocular pressure (IOP), the interrelationships among diabetes, IOP, and other ocular biometric parameters remain unclear. The present study investigated the relationships of diabetes, haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and serum glucose with IOP and ocular hypertension (IOP > 21 mmHg) in non-glaucomatous Japanese adults living in Chikusei City. Diabetes was defined as a self-reported history of diabetes, the use of antidiabetic medication, or HbA1c levels ≥6.5%. Among 6,786 enrolled participants aged 40 years and above, 734 were classified as diabetic (10.8%). After adjusting for several confounders, the IOP values were significantly higher in participants with diabetes than in those without diabetes (14.4 ± 0.1 vs. 13.9 ± 0.1 mmHg, P less then 0.001) and were also significantly increased in those with elevated HbA1c and serum glucose levels (both P less then 0.001). It is demonstrated that both techniques are capable of recording the early stage of uniaxial flow behaviour of the irradiated material with sufficient accuracy providing a measure of irradiation-induced shift of yield strength, strain hardening and tensile strength.

The objective of the present study was evaluation of the interrelationships between changes in the skull size and variations in the normal brain radiation dose during Gamma Knife surgery (GKS).
With use of systematic modeling within Leksell GammaPlan
(Elekta AB; Stockholm, Sweden) in each of 15 analyzed cases, the skull was "expanded" and "contracted" by variation of its measurement values from 0 to ±3 cm. The mean normal brain radiation dose was then computed for each variant of the adjusted skull size and compared with the original treatment plan. Variations in the maximum point dose delivered to selected critical anatomical structures were also investigated.
With changes in the skull radius within ±3cm, the maximum absolute deviation in the mean normal brain radiation dose was 0.8%. As the skull radius increased, the mean normal brain radiation dose also increased linearly (confidence level >99%) with a positive slope of 0.2% per centimeter of radius length change. The maximum point dose deviations in all evaluated critical anatomical structures did not exceed 0.

Information was obtained from the International Classification of Diseases-10 codes or a questionnaire administered during the check-up. At 60 months of age, the mean percentiles of weight, height, and head circumference fell within only the 30-40th percentile of normal growth values. About 30% of infants had growth parameters below the 10th percentile and showed worse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Using multiple logistic regression, infants with bronchopulmonary 0-40th percentile of normal growth for infants at 60 months of age, indicating that catch-up growth for VLBW infants remains an issue. • VLBW infants with major preterm morbidities, including BPD, PVL, and sepsis, showed difficulties in achieving normal catch-up growth and neurodevelopment at 60 months of age.Children with sickle cell disease (SCD) are at a high risk for neurocognitive impairment. SCD had high iron overload 0.30 ± 0.12 mg/kg/day. 68.9% of SCD had under-threshold IQ, 12.5% had moderate to severe anxiety, and 60.8% had depression. There were no differences between SCD, BTM, and controls in brain MRI except that left thalamus R2* higher in BTM than both SCD and controls (p = 0.032). Mean right caudate R2* was higher in female than male (p = 0.044). No significant association between brain R2* and LIC or heart R2* values in SCD. The recombinant E. coli strain was screened and identified. The initial concentrations of L-monosodium glutamate (L-MSG) had an obvious influence on the production of GABA. The highest concentration of GABA in recombinant E. coli BL21/pET28a-gadA was 5.54 g/L when the initial L-MSG concentration was 10 g/L, whereas it was 8.45 g/L in recombinant E. coli BL21/pET28a-gadA-SNO1-SNZ1 at an initial L-MSG concentration of 15 g/L. The corresponding conversion yields of GABA in these two strains were 91.0% and 92.7%, respectively. When the initial concentrations of L-MSG were more than 15 g/L, the concentrations of GABA in E. coli BL21/pET28a-gadA-SNO1-SNZ1 were significantly higher as compared to those in recombinant E. coli BL21/pET28a-gadA, and it reached a maximum of 13.20 g/L at an initial L-MSG concentration of 25 g/L, demonstrating that the introduction of the enzymes of the regeneration pathway of PLP favored to enhance the production of GABA. Reverse distal femoral locking compression plates (DF-LCP) have been used as an alternative treatment in complex proximal femur fractures.
The purpose of this study was to assess the compatibility of reverse DF-LCP with Asian proximal femurs, to determine the matching patterns and integrate information to establish guidelines for correct application.
Twenty-eight adult cadaveric femurs were obtained from 5 males and 9 females with an average age of 69.27years (range 59-85). A contralateral 13-hole DF-LCP was applied with MIPO technique using the vastus ridge as a landmark for Hole A. The first locking screw was inserted through Hole A under fluoroscopic guidance just above the femoral head-neck junction in AP view and centered of the neck in lateral view, followed by three proximal locking screws. The number of screws successfully inserted through the femoral neck, including any penetration of femoral neck, the gap between anterior and posterior borders between plate and bone, the anatomical parameters of proximal femur, and any mismatches between the plate and the bone were recorded.

Antibiotic use is associated with several antibiotic-related harms in vulnerable, older long-term care (LTC) residents. Suboptimal antibiotic use may also be associated with harms but has not yet been investigated. The aim of this work was to compare rates of poor clinical outcomes among LTC residents with UTI receiving suboptimal versus optimal antibiotic treatment.
We conducted a retrospective cohort study among residents with an incident urinary tract infection (UTI) treated in Veterans Affairs LTC units (2013-2018). Potentially suboptimal antibiotic treatment was defined as use of a suboptimal initial antibiotic drug choice, dose frequency, and/or excessive treatment duration. The primary outcome was time to a composite measure of poor clinical outcome, defined as UTI recurrence, acute care hospitalization/emergency department visit, adverse drug event, Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), or death within 30 days of antibiotic discontinuation. Shared frailty Cox proportional hazard regression mod of poor clinical outcomes, in particular, a 94% increased risk of CDI. Beyond the decision to use antibiotics, clinicians should also consider the potential harms of suboptimal treatment choices with regards to drug type, dose frequency, and duration used.

The molecular mechanisms of nitrate uptake and assimilation are poorly understood in tomato. NIN-like proteins (NLPs) are conserved, plant-specific transcription factors that play crucial roles in nitrate signaling.
In this study, genome-wide analysis identified sixNLPmembers in tomato genome. These members were clustered into three clades in a phylogenetic tree. Comparative genomic analysis showed thatSlNLPgenes exhibited collinear relationships toNLPs in Arabidopsis, canola, maize and rice, and that the expansion of theSlNLPfamily mainly resulted from segmental duplications in the tomato genome. Tissue-specific expression analysis showed that one of the close homologs ofAtNLP6/7,SlNLP3, was strongly expressed in roots during both the seedling and flowering stages,that SlNLP4andSlNLP6exhibited preferential expression in stems and leaves andthat SlNLP6was expressed at high levels in fruits. Family-centered care, as a contemporary model of health service delivery, involves a mutually beneficial partnership between healthcare providers, patients and their families. Although evidence on the positive effects of family-centered care on older adults and their families is accumulating, less is known about the providers' beliefs, attitudes and practices related to family-centeredness, especially regarding community-based primary healthcare services for the rapidly-ageing Chinese population.
This study investigated Chinese primary care providers' perceptions and experiences of family-centered care for older adults, using community-based diabetes management services as an example. Ten focus-group interviews involving 48 community health professionals were conducted. Major themes were identified using thematic analysis.
The interviews revealed that the providers acknowledged the importance of the family in older patients' diabetes management, while their current scope of practice with the patients' families was limited and informal. The barriers to implementing family-centered care were attributed to structural and environmental obstacles associated with the patients' families and the community healthcare context and culture. To engage patients' families more effectively, the providers suggested that family-centered values endorsed by their healthcare organizations and reinforced by policies, a trained interdisciplinary team of health professionals and community social workers, and also that the utilization of technology would be beneficial.
Our study extends the evidence of family-centered care for older adults in Chinese community-based healthcare settings, contributing to the design of a tailored healthcare delivery model embodying ageing in place.

The oil-tea tree (Camellia oleifera Abel.) is a woody tree species that produces edible oil in the seed. C. oleifera oil has high nutritional value and is also an important raw material for medicine and cosmetics. In China, due to the uncertainty on maturity period and oil synthesis mechanism of many C. oleifera cultivars, growers may harvest fruits prematurely, which could not maximize fruit and oil yields. In this study, our objective was to explore the mechanism and differences of oil synthesis between two Camellia oleifera cultivars for a precise definition of the fruit ripening period and the selection of appropriate cultivars.
The results showed that 'Huashuo' had smaller fruits and seeds, lower dry seed weight and lower expression levels of fatty acid biosynthesis genes in July. We could not detect the presence of oil and oil bodies in 'Huashuo' seeds until August, and oil and oil bodies were detected in 'Huajin' seeds in July. Moreover, 'Huashuo' seeds were not completely blackened in October with up to 60.38% of water and approximately 37.98% of oil in seed kernels whose oil content was **** lower than normal mature seed kernels. The oil bodies in seed endosperm cells of 'Huajin' were always higher than those of 'Huashuo' from July to October.

This study investigated Chinese primary care providers' perceptions and experiences of family-centered care for older adults, using community-based diabetes management services as an example. Ten focus-group interviews involving 48 community health professionals were conducted. Major themes were identified using thematic analysis. The interviews revealed that the providers acknowledged the importance of the family in older patients' diabetes management, while their current scope of practice with the patients' families was limited and informal. The barriers to implementing family-centered care were attributed to structural and environmental obstacles associated with the patients' families and the community healthcare context and culture. To engage patients' families more effectively, the providers suggested that family-centered values endorsed by their healthcare organizations and reinforced by policies, a trained interdisciplinary team of health professionals and community social workers, and also that the utilization of technology would be beneficial. C. oleifera oil has high nutritional value and is also an important raw material for medicine and cosmetics. In China, due to the uncertainty on maturity period and oil synthesis mechanism of many C. oleifera cultivars, growers may harvest fruits prematurely, which could not maximize fruit and oil yields. In this study, our objective was to explore the mechanism and differences of oil synthesis between two Camellia oleifera cultivars for a precise definition of the fruit ripening period and the selection of appropriate cultivars. The results showed that 'Huashuo' had smaller fruits and seeds, lower dry seed weight and lower expression levels of fatty acid biosynthesis genes in July. One thousand ten patients included 386 (38%) died, 618 (61%) alive at discharge and six (0.6%) remained hospitalised. There was predominance of men (63%) and high frequency of overweight-obesity (71%); hypertension (54%); diabetes (40%); and lung (9%), cardiovascular (8%) and kidney diseases (11%); all of them significantly more frequent in non-survivors. Overweight-obesity was not different between groups, but severity of disease (Manchester Triage System and quick Sequen, p=0.009) and antecedent of kidney disease (OR 1.58, p=0.04) CONCLUSIONS Mortality in hospitalised patients with COVID-19 in this emerging country centre seemed to be higher than in developed countries. Patients displayed a high frequency of risk factors for poor outcome, but the need for IMV, ICU admission, older age, more severe disease at admission, antecedent of kidney disease and higher CRP levels significantly predicted mortality.

To assess the sensitivity and validity of the questionnaire, the HFAI and Contribution Assessment Tool for Consumer's Health (CATCH) were administered to 302 participants (151 employers and 151 employees) from 151 Korean companies.
The CATCH measured the contribution of each company to the physical, mental, social and spiritual health of its consumers. To estimate the reliability and validity of all six HFAI domains and their respective scales, Cronbach's α coefficients and correlation coefficients were used.
Each domain and scale of the HFAI exhibited a Cronbach's α coefficient between 0.80 and 0.98 for the employers and employees. The overall HFAI and its six domains correlated significantly and positively with all health outcomes such as physical, mental, social and spiritual status scores evaluated using the CATCH (Spearman's correlation range 0.37-0.68).

In this randomized, placebo treatment-controlled trial, 30 patients consecutively aged 25-45 years meeting inclusion criteria were isolated into two groups. The study group was treated with Maitland mobilization consistently for eight weeks while the control group got placebo treatment for a similar timeframe. Visual analog Scale (VAS), Neck disability index (NDI) and cervical range of motion (ROM) questionnaire was filled by patients before, intermediate and after the intervention to evaluate the severity of pain, functional ability and range of motion.
Following eight weeks of treatment, when compared the post treatment effects of both groups, the significance value for VAS was 0.008, for NDI p=0.030, for Flexion p=0.573, for extension p=0.001, for right rotation p<0.001, for left rotation p=0.002, for right and left side bending p<0.001.

Determining the polysomnographic characteristics of acromegaly patients is important to reveal the effect of these mechanisms.
The demographic and polysomnographic characteristics of 33 acromegaly patients who underwent polysomnography (PSG) with suspicion of sleep disorders between 2011 and 2018 in the sleep laboratory of our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. They, were selected as the study subjects who were divided into infection group and non-infection group according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The serum PCT and CRP levels were compared between the two groups at 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours. In order to judge the changes of PCT level and the infection of stroke patients, different kinds of antibiotics were used for corresponding treatment. Retrospective analysis of the cases that did not monitor PCT anti infective treatment before July 2016 were compared with the cases that monitored PCT to guide anti infective treatment after July 2016, and compared the efficacy of antibiotics.
