Applying this method to a cholera epidemic model, we obtain an analytical approximation of the steady-state solution with rigorous error bounds that also displays dependence on a parameter. In connection with this epidemic model, we also analyse the basic reproduction number, an important threshold quantity in the epidemiology context. The model is used to study the flow of a 2D foam system consisting of one bubble partially filling a constricted channel and a single spanning film connecting it to the opposite channel wall. Gradients of surface tension arising from film deformation induce tangential flow that redistributes surfactant along the film. This redistribution, and the consequent changes in film tension, inhibit the structure from undergoing a foam-destroying topological change in which the spanning film leaves the bubble behind; foam stability is thereby increased. The system's behaviour is categorized by a Gibbs-Marangoni parameter, representing the ratio between the rate of motion in tangential and normal directions. Larger values of the Gibbs-Marangoni parameter induce greater variation in surface tension, increase the rate of surfactant redistribution and reduce the likelihood of topological changes. Given the extremely small length and time scales involved, several challenges persist in studying the development of shear bands. Here, we present a new approach to study shear bands at low speeds using low melting point alloys. We use in situ imaging to directly capture the essential features of shear banding, including transition from homogeneous to shear banded flow, band nucleation and propagation dynamics, and temporal evolution of the flow around a developing band. High-resolution, time-resolved measurements of the local displacement and velocity profiles during shear band growth are presented. The experiments are complemented by an analysis of the shear band growth as a Bingham fluid flow. It is shown that shear banding occurs only beyond a critical shear stress and is accompanied by a sharp drop in the viscosity by several orders of magnitude, analogous to the yielding transition in yield-stress fluids. Likewise, the displacement field around a nucleated band evolves in a manner that resembles boundary layer formation, with the band thickness scaling with time as a power law. © 2020 The Author(s).Variable-order fractional operators were conceived and mathematically formalized only in recent years. The possibility of formulating evolutionary governing equations has led to the successful application of these operators to the modelling of complex real-world problems ranging from mechanics, to transport processes, to control theory, to biology. Variable-order fractional calculus (VO-FC) is a relatively less known branch of calculus that offers remarkable opportunities to simulate interdisciplinary processes. Recognizing this untapped potential, the scientific community has been intensively exploring applications of VO-FC to the modelling of engineering and physical systems. This review is intended to serve as a starting point for the reader interested in approaching this fascinating field. We provide a concise and comprehensive summary of the progress made in the development of VO-FC analytical and computational methods with application to the simulation of complex physical systems. More specifically, following a short introduction of the fundamental mathematical concepts, we present the topic of VO-FC from the point of view of practical applications in the context of scientific modelling.

Catastrophizing is an important psychological construct in mediating the behavioral response toward pain.
The purpose of this study is to examine the psychometric properties of the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) in Greek clinical population.
The scale was administered in 376 patients with chronic cervical and lumbar pain. Test-retest reliability, internal consistency (Cronbach
α
) and concurrent validity were assessed. Exploratory (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were used to test the factorial validity of the hypothesized three factor structure.
The PCS factors suggested high levels of test-retest reliability, whereas Cronbachs'
α
values were acceptable. The EFA yielded a three-factor solution and indicated a marginal fit to the data. CFA procedures indicated a rather acceptable fit to the data. The concurrent validity of the instrument was confirmed.

Hereinto, electrochemical and antibacterial results show that the increase in Cu content simultaneously improves the corrosion resistance and antibacterial property of 430 stainless steel. In addition, it is found that Escherichia coli (E. coli) on the surface 430 Cu-bearing stainless steel by the dry method of inoculation possesses a rapid inactivation ability. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) aids with ion chelation experiments prove that Cu (I) plays a more crucial role in the contact-killing efficiency than Cu (II), resulting from more production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
Firstly, according to the characteristics of COVID-19 epidemic and the control measures of the government of Shaanxi Province, a general population epidemic model is established. Then, the control reproduction number of general population epidemic model is obtained. Based on the epidemic model of general population, the epidemic model of general population and college population is further established, and the control reproduction number is also obtained.

Chilean geography exposes the country to high-level risks such as earthquakes and tsunamis. The disasters of 1930, 1960, 2010, and 2014 testify to the continuous link between human survival and disasters. However, new hazards have appeared ever since -i.e. flood waterlogging, wildfires, and landslides-, highlighting the relationship between current land uses and space occupation with increasing levels of disaster risk. This research aims to determine relations and responsibilities of the Chilean developmental approach in urban planning and territorial governance processes that have created new territories prone to disaster risk. We resort to a longitudinal analysis from 1930 to 2018 at the Gran Concepción metropolitan area as a proxy of Chilean industrialization and economic development approaches. To do so, we developed mixed-approach descriptive research, for which we collected data from national development policies and documented land occupation processes during pre-dictatorship, dictatorship and post-dictatorship periods. Semi-structured interviews with decision-makers involved in current territorial policy were also carried out. The findings show how territorial governance resulted from political visions around different development paths, wherein the concept of risk is weakly perceived among decision-makers. This perception is linked to narrow economic goals and the understanding of land as a barely regulated marketable asset, profoundly affected by segregated urban planning.Public health emergencies, especially major infectious diseases, may cause global crises. The results show that (1) the ECN has changed from concentrated to decentralized over time; (2) the positions and roles of participating organizations in the ECN has changed, but there are still a few key organizations that at the central position in all phases of emergency communication; (3) the core tasks have changed due to caused by public health emergencies.The peri-urban interface (PUI) exhibits characteristic qualities of both urban and rural regions, and this complexity has meant that risk assessments and long-term planning for PUI are lagging, despite these areas representing new developing settlement frontiers. This study aims to address this knowledge gap by modifying an existing approach to quantify and assess flood risk. The risk triangle framework was used to map exposure, vulnerability and biophysical variables; however, in a novel application, the risk triangle framework was adapted by presuming that there is a variation in the degree of exposure, vulnerability and biophysical variables. Within Australia and globally, PUIs are often coastal, and flood risk associated with rainfall and coastal inundation poses considerable risk to communities in the PUI; these risks will be further exacerbated should projections of increasing frequency of extreme rainfall events and accelerating sea-level rise eventuate. An indicator-based approach using the risk triangle framework that maps flood hazard, exposure and vulnerability was used to integrate the biophysical and socio-economic flooding risk for communities in PUI of the St Georges Basin and Sussex Inlet catchments of south-eastern Australia. Integrating the flood risk triangle with future scenarios of demographic and climate change, and considering factors that contribute to PUI flood risk, facilitated the identification of planning strategies that would reduce the future rate of increase in flood risk. These planning strategies are useful for natural resource managers and land use planners across Australia and globally, who are tasked with balancing socio-economic prosperity for a changing population, whilst maintaining and enhancing ecosystem services and values. As a result, data from weather stations alone may be inadequate for Ta-related epidemiology particularly when the stations are not located in the areas of interest for human exposure assessment. To address this limitation in the Megalopolis of Central Mexico (MCM), we developed the first spatiotemporally resolved hybrid satellite-based land use regression Ta model for the region, home to nearly 30 million people and includes Mexico City and seven more metropolitan areas. Our model predicted daily minimum, mean, and maximum Ta for the years 2003-2019. We used data from 120 weather stations and Land Surface Temperature (LST) data from NASA's MODIS instruments on the Aqua and Terra satellites on a 1 × 1 km grid. We generated a satellite-hybrid mixed-effects model for each year, regressing Ta measurements against land use terms, day-specific random intercepts, and fixed and random LST slopes. We assessed model performance using 10-fold cross-validation at withheld stations. Across all years, the root-mean-square error ranged from 0.92 to 1.92 K and the R 2 ranged from .78 to .95. To demonstrate the utility of our model for health research, we evaluated the total number of days in the year 2010 when residents ≥65 years old were exposed to Ta extremes (above 30°C or below 5°C). Chilean geography exposes the country to high-level risks such as earthquakes and tsunamis. The disasters of 1930, 1960, 2010, and 2014 testify to the continuous link between human survival and disasters. However, new hazards have appeared ever since -i.e. flood waterlogging, wildfires, and landslides-, highlighting the relationship between current land uses and space occupation with increasing levels of disaster risk. This research aims to determine relations and responsibilities of the Chilean developmental approach in urban planning and territorial governance processes that have created new territories prone to disaster risk. We resort to a longitudinal analysis from 1930 to 2018 at the Gran Concepción metropolitan area as a proxy of Chilean industrialization and economic development approaches. To do so, we developed mixed-approach descriptive research, for which we collected data from national development policies and documented land occupation processes during pre-dictatorship, dictatorship and post-dictatorship periods. Semi-structured interviews with decision-makers involved in current territorial policy were also carried out. The findings show how territorial governance resulted from political visions around different development paths, wherein the concept of risk is weakly perceived among decision-makers. The results show that (1) the ECN has changed from concentrated to decentralized over time; (2) the positions and roles of participating organizations in the ECN has changed, but there are still a few key organizations that at the central position in all phases of emergency communication; (3) the core tasks have changed due to caused by public health emergencies.The peri-urban interface (PUI) exhibits characteristic qualities of both urban and rural regions, and this complexity has meant that risk assessments and long-term planning for PUI are lagging, despite these areas representing new developing settlement frontiers. This study aims to address this knowledge gap by modifying an existing approach to quantify and assess flood risk. The risk triangle framework was used to map exposure, vulnerability and biophysical variables; however, in a novel application, the risk triangle framework was adapted by presuming that there is a variation in the degree of exposure, vulnerability and biophysical variables. Within Australia and globally, PUIs are often coastal, and flood risk associated with rainfall and coastal inundation poses considerable risk to communities in the PUI; these risks will be further exacerbated should projections of increasing frequency of extreme rainfall events and accelerating sea-level rise eventuate. An indicator-based approach using the risk triangle framework that maps flood hazard, exposure and vulnerability was used to integrate the biophysical and socio-economic flooding risk for communities in PUI of the St Georges Basin and Sussex Inlet catchments of south-eastern Australia. Integrating the flood risk triangle with future scenarios of demographic and climate change, and considering factors that contribute to PUI flood risk, facilitated the identification of planning strategies that would reduce the future rate of increase in flood risk. These planning strategies are useful for natural resource managers and land use planners across Australia and globally, who are tasked with balancing socio-economic prosperity for a changing population, whilst maintaining and enhancing ecosystem services and values. As a result, data from weather stations alone may be inadequate for Ta-related epidemiology particularly when the stations are not located in the areas of interest for human exposure assessment. To address this limitation in the Megalopolis of Central Mexico (MCM), we developed the first spatiotemporally resolved hybrid satellite-based land use regression Ta model for the region, home to nearly 30 million people and includes Mexico City and seven more metropolitan areas. Our model predicted daily minimum, mean, and maximum Ta for the years 2003-2019. We used data from 120 weather stations and Land Surface Temperature (LST) data from NASA's MODIS instruments on the Aqua and Terra satellites on a 1 × 1 km grid. We generated a satellite-hybrid mixed-effects model for each year, regressing Ta measurements against land use terms, day-specific random intercepts, and fixed and random LST slopes. We assessed model performance using 10-fold cross-validation at withheld stations. Across all years, the root-mean-square error ranged from 0.92 to 1.92 K and the R 2 ranged from .78 to .95. RESULTS Among 130 participants, the prevalence of screening HR-OSA was 38.5%. Characteristics associated with screening HR-OSA included hypertension (P 50 years (odds ratio [OR], 7.54), hypertension (OR, 4.04), body mass index ≥30 kg/m (OR, 3.98), and nocturial enuresis (OR, 2.26) remained significantly associated with screening HR-OSA. Average time to complete the STOP-BANG was 1.2 minutes. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of OSA among urogynecology patients is high, and screening is not time prohibitive. Patients who screen HR-OSA have more bothersome bladder symptoms. To understand format preferences, modified grounded theory was used to conduct and analyze telephone interviews. RESULTS One hundred eighty-seven (76%) of 246 incontinent women reported being likely to attend continence promotion 111 (45%) for a single lecture, 43 (17%) for an interactive 3-session workshop, and 156 (64%) for an online program. Obesity, older age, nonwhite race, prior health program participation, and Internet use for health information were associated with reported continence promotion participation. Cited advantages of a single lecture included convenience and ability to ask questions. A workshop offered accountability, hands-on learning, and opportunity to learn from others; online format offered privacy, convenience, and self-directed learning. Cases were obtained from Cerner Health Facts database, including 213 hospitals, using current procedural technology codes 57288 (repeat sling), 57287 (sling revision), and 53500 (urethrolysis) for procedures after index MUS. Controls no return to OR were randomly selected in 41 ratio from the remaining slings without these procedures. Multivariable regression analysis included all variables with P less then 0.10 on univariable analysis. RESULTS Between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2016, 1247 patients returned to the OR of 17,953 patients who underwent initial MUS (6.9%). After adjusting for confounders, white race (OR, 1.47 [1.20-1.81]), lack of concomitant prolapse surgery (OR, 1.37 [1.18-1.59]), immunosuppressant drugs (OR, 1.27 [1.12-1.45]), and blood thinner use (OR, 1.38 [1.18-1.62]) significantly impacted the odds for returning to the OR. Anticholinergic use and smoking tobacco or marijuana, although significant on univariable analysis, were no longer significant after adjusting for confounders. CONCLUSIONS The rate of a second surgery after MUS using a composite outcome, over a 7-year period including multiple diagnoses, is 6.9%. White race, using immunosuppressant drugs, using blood thinners, and not having concomitant prolapse surgery are all risk factors for having second surgery after MUS.

We described the demographics, cancer subtypes, comorbidities, and outcomes of patients with a history of cancer and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Second, we compared patients hospitalized with COVID-19 to patients diagnosed with COVID-19 and patients hospitalized with influenza.
We conducted a cohort study using eight routinely collected health care databases from Spain and the United States, standardized to the Observational Medical Outcome Partnership common data model. Three cohorts of patients with a history of cancer were included (i) diagnosed with COVID-19, (ii) hospitalized with COVID-19, and (iii) hospitalized with influenza in 2017 to 2018. Patients were followed from index date to 30 days or death. We reported demographics, cancer subtypes, comorbidities, and 30-day outcomes.
We included 366,050 and 119,597 patients diagnosed and hospitalized with COVID-19, respectively. Prostate and breast cancers were the most frequent cancers (range 5%-18% and 1%-14% in the diagnosed cohort, respectively). Hematologic malignancies were also frequent, with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma being among the five most common cancer subtypes in the diagnosed cohort. Overall, patients were aged above 65 years and had multiple comorbidities. Occurrence of death ranged from 2% to 14% and from 6% to 26% in the diagnosed and hospitalized COVID-19 cohorts, respectively. Patients hospitalized with influenza (
= 67,743) had a similar distribution of cancer subtypes, sex, age, and comorbidities but lower occurrence of adverse events.

Primary outcome was the optimal timing of cholecystectomy in patients with necrotising biliary pancreatitis, defined as the optimal point in time with the lowest risk of recurrent biliary events and the lowest risk of complications of cholecystectomy. Secondary outcomes were the number of recurrent biliary events, periprocedural complications of cholecystectomy and the protective value of endoscopic sphincterotomy for the recurrence of biliary events.

TOPMOST (Treatment fOr Primary Medium vessel Occlusion STroke) is an international, retrospective, multicenter, observational registry of patients treated for distal cerebral artery occlusions. This study subanalysis endovascularly treated occlusions of the posterior cerebral artery in the P2 and P3 segment secondary preprocedural or periprocedural thrombus migration between January 2014 and June 2020. Technical feasibility was evaluated with the modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (mTICI) scale. Procedural safety was assessed by the occurrence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) and intervention-related serious adverse events.

In ****, microinfarcts have been created by surgically introducing microemboli into the brain, but a major limitation of this model is the absence of automated methods to identify and localize individual occlusions. We present a novel and semi-automated workflow to identify the anatomic location of fluorescent emboli (microspheres) within the mouse brain through histologic processing and atlas registration. By incorporating vibratome block-face imaging with the QuickNII brain registration tool, we show that the anatomic location of microspheres can be accurately registered to brain structures within the Allen mouse brain (AMB) atlas (e.g, somatomotor areas, hippocampal region, visual areas, etc.). Compared with registering images of slide mounted sections to the AMB atlas, microsphere location was more accurately determined when block-face images were used. As a proof of principle, using this workflow we compared the distribution of microspheres within the brains of **** that were either perfused or immersion fixed. No significant effect of perfusion on total microsphere number or location was detected. In general, microspheres were distributed brain-wide, with the largest density found in the thalamus. In sum, our block-face imaging workflow enables efficient characterization of the widespread distribution of fluorescent microemboli, facilitating future investigation into the impact of microinfarct load and location on brain health.

This study subanalysis endovascularly treated occlusions of the posterior cerebral artery in the P2 and P3 segment secondary preprocedural or periprocedural thrombus migration between January 2014 and June 2020. Technical feasibility was evaluated with the modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (mTICI) scale. Procedural safety was assessed by the occurrence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) and intervention-related serious adverse events. In mice, microinfarcts have been created by surgically introducing microemboli into the brain, but a major limitation of this model is the absence of automated methods to identify and localize individual occlusions. We present a novel and semi-automated workflow to identify the anatomic location of fluorescent emboli (microspheres) within the mouse brain through histologic processing and atlas registration. By incorporating vibratome block-face imaging with the QuickNII brain registration tool, we show that the anatomic location of microspheres can be accurately registered to brain structures within the Allen mouse brain (AMB) atlas (e.g, somatomotor areas, hippocampal region, visual areas, etc.). Compared with registering images of slide mounted sections to the AMB atlas, microsphere location was more accurately determined when block-face images were used. As a proof of principle, using this workflow we compared the distribution of microspheres within the brains of mice that were either perfused or immersion fixed. No significant effect of perfusion on total microsphere number or location was detected. In general, microspheres were distributed brain-wide, with the largest density found in the thalamus. Childhood cancer in Chile reports 500 new cases each year of which 85% are treated in the public health system. Governmental programs ensure access to diagnosis, treatment, follow up and palliative care, whereas Fundación Nuestros Hijos (FNH) provides supportive care for non-covered medical and psychosocial needs. Common financial difficulties in families of children and adolescents with cancer increased considerably when a wave of social unrest arose in October 2019 and the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 hit the country, leaving families of children with cancer facing greater challenges.
We report here the support activities and interventions carried out by FNH to help the families during the crisis of these months.
A socioeconomic survey was conducted among FNH's beneficiary families to know their needs. During these months of acute crisis for many families, support activities and interventions were developed and varied types of aid were allocated to help the families.
The main results of the survey in which 525 (70%) of FNH's beneficiary families participated showed that 75% of them had only one breadwinner, and 52% had one unemployed family member. Almost 90% of job loss happened during the months of social unrest and pandemic. Four main interventions (a) safe transportation, (b) food, (c) heating, (d) internet connectivity, were organized to support important needs of the families and prevent children to miss treatment appointments. Additionally, some families who did not access governmental emergency aid were guided in the process.
The aid provided helped the families to relieve some of their needs, facilitated the continuation of treatment during the pandemic, and made the caregivers feel supported and listened.

HASTEN showed reasonable performance by having the mean recall value of 0.78 of the top one percent scoring molecules after docking 10 % of the dataset for the literature data, whereas excellent recall value of 0.95 was achieved for the in-house data. Sarcopenia is an age-related muscle disease primarily characterized by reductions in muscle strength that increases the risk of falls, fractures, cognitive impairment, and mortality. Exercise is currently preferred in prevention and treatment, but it is unknown how different habitual physical activity and sedentary behaviour patterns associate with sarcopenia status. The purpose of the present study was to compare associations of these patterns with probable sarcopenia in older adults.

The use of intraoperative ultrasound in emergency cranial neurosurgical procedures is not well described. It may improve surgical outcomes and is useful when other neuro-navigation systems are not readily available. We provide a practical guide for neurosurgical trainees to utilize ultrasound for various emergency cranial neurosurgical procedures, including lesion localization, insertion of an external ventricular drain, and shunt revision surgery. Intraoperative ultrasound is a useful modality for urgent neurosurgical procedures.
Surgical conditions account for as **** as one third of the global burden of disease, yet 5 billion people worldwide do not have access to timely, affordable surgical care. These disparities in access to timely surgical care are most pronounced in low- and middle-income countries, where the availability of specialty surgical services such as neurosurgery are severely limited or completely absent. The African autonomous region of Somaliland, in the Horn of Africa, is one such region.
Discussions were conducted with key individuals in Somaliland to ascertain the current state of neurosurgery in Somaliland.
The current state of neurosurgery in Somaliland was characterized. First, a background on the recent history of the republic and the surrounding region was furnished, which provides context for the challenging socioeconomic conditions in Somaliland. Brief biographical sketches were presented of local leaders and general surgeons who are actively working to improve economic and health conditions and who welcome opportunities to improve all health services, including neurosurgery. In addition, an overview was presented of new initiatives in capacity building in neurosurgery and sources of directed training and care in neurosurgery.
This article provides the first-ever assessment of current neurosurgery-related activity in Somaliland. The article provides recommendations to guide the international neurosurgery community in future contributions.

Whether patients with minor traumatic intracranial hemorrhage (MTICH) require intensive care remains uncertain. This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the postinjury neurologic outcomes of patients with MTICH to determine optimal care.
We retrospectively reviewed the data of all patients with trauma discharged from a tertiary trauma center during a 2-year period and included adult patients with isolated MTICH. Patient Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) score at discharge was the primary outcome measurement. A GOS score of 4 or 5 was defined as a favorable outcome, and a score of 1-3 was considered an unfavorable outcome. We compared the clinical data between favorable and unfavorable outcome groups to determine the differences between groups.
Of the 11,814 patients considered, we identified 534 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Older adults accounted for 35.4% of the study cohort. Only 4 complications (0.7%) and 1 mortality (0.2%) were observed during hospitalization. The number of patients who requiring brain surgery, transfusion, mechanical ventilation, pressor, or invasive monitor was 5 (0.9%), 5 (0.9%), 3 (5.6%), 0 (0%), and 0 (0%), respectively. After multivariate analysis, we discovered that comorbidities, brain surgery requirement, respiratory rate, and Trauma Injury Severity Score were strongly associated with patient GOS score at discharge.
MTICH rarely resulted in permanent morbidity and mortality. Older patients exhibited higher incidences of MTICH and were at a higher risk for unfavorable outcomes.

We sought to assess and compare the rate of adjacent segment degeneration (ASDeg), adjacent segment disease, and related reoperations between patients who underwent lumbar interbody fusion surgery using indirect or direct decompression.
On the basis of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, a systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to identify and analyze studies that compared the rate of ASDeg, adjacent segment disease, and related reoperations between indirect and direct decompression techniques. Indirect decompression included anterior lumbar interbody fusion, lateral lumbar interbody fusion, and oblique lateral interbody fusion, whereas direct decompression included posterior or transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion.
Seven studies including a total of 576 patients (indirect 314; direct 262) were identified. The pooled rates of ASDeg were 19.4% (45/232) and 34.9% (66/189) for indirect and direct decompression, respectively. A fixed-effects model sion surgery in this meta-analysis. Endosaccular treatment is the backbone of endovascular treatment for acutely ruptured aneurysms. Stent-assisted coiling is a niche technique in this context. Data on X-stenting or Y-stenting (dual crossing stenting, DCS) in the acute phase after subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) are scarce, and the impact of stent properties on the outcome is unknown. We retrospectively evaluated the clinical and imaging results of DCS in patients treated for aSAH.
Patients with aSAH treated with DCS were evaluated retrospectively. Patient and procedural characteristics were evaluated to determine clinical outcomes, associated complications, and follow-up imaging findings.
Sixteen procedures (16 patients; 10 women, mean age 55.8) were performed within 3.2 ± 2.6 days (range 1-10 days) of aSAH. Only the latest generation of intracranial stents (dual Neuroform Atlas-12 cases, dual Leo Baby-2 cases, Neuroform Atlas with Acclino Flex, or Leo Baby-2 cases) were used. Technical success rate was 100%; however, 25% of the procedures were complicated, leading to adverse events in 3 procedures (18.8%; 2 stent thrombosis, 1aneurysm rupture). Procedure-related morbidity and mortality and overall permanent morbidity and mortality were 6.3%, none, 6.3%, and 12.5%, respectively. No additional neurologic events were noted on a mean clinical follow-up of 160 ± 156 (range 1-540) days.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with no cure and few treatment options. Its incidence is increasing due to aging populations, longer disease duration and potentially as a COVID-19 sequela. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has been successfully used in animal models to reduce the signs of PD and to protect dopaminergic neurons.
To assess the effectiveness of PBM to mitigate clinical signs of PD in a prospective proof-of-concept study, using a combination of transcranial and remote treatment, in order to inform on best practice for a larger randomized placebo-controlled trial (RCT).
Twelve participants with idiopathic PD were recruited. Six were randomly chosen to begin 12 weeks of transcranial, intranasal, neck and abdominal PBM. The remaining 6 were waitlisted for 14 weeks before commencing the sametreatment. After the 12-week treatment period, all participants were supplied with PBM devices to continue home treatment. Participants were assessed for mobility, fine motor skilline is typically expected. Home treatment of PD by the person themselves or with the help of a carer might be an effective therapy option. The results of this study indicate that a large RCT is warranted.

We report long-term surveillance data on changes in HPV 6 and HPV 11 infection and the prevalence of genital warts in young women in the Wolfsburg HPV epidemiological study (WOLVES).
Women born in 1983/84, 1988/89, and 1993/94 participated in four cohorts between 2009/10 and 2014/15. Quadrivalent vaccination coverage and prevalence of HPV 6/11 infection and genital warts are reported for participants aged 19-22 years and 24-27 years at the time of sample collection. Statistical analyses were done to compare similarly aged participants using 2 × 2 contingency tables (Röhmel-Mansmann unconditional exact test; two-side alpha of 0.05).

Searching the risk factors for carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infection is important in clinical practice. In the present study, we aim to investigate bacterial characteristics of colonizing strains and their correlation with subsequent CRE infection.
Between May 2018 and January 2019, patients hospitalized in the department of haematology and intensive care unit (ICU) were screened for CRE by rectal swabs and monitored for the outcome of infection. We identified the species and carbapenemase-encoding genes of colonizing strains and performed antimicrobial susceptibility tests and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). Risk factors for subsequent CRE infections were ascertained by univariate and multivariable analysis.
We collected a total of 219 colonizing strains from 153 patients. Klebsiella pneumoniae was the most abundant species, and MLST analysis showed rich diversity. K. pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) was predominant in the infection group (72.4%). In the non-infection group, 35.4% ofwith KPC-CRE or strains with an imipenem MIC ≥ 32 mg/L were at particularly high risk of subsequent CRE infections during their hospital stay.

Through a retrospective bibliometric analysis, this study aims to identify and characterize the top 100 cited publications on PND.
We searched the Web of Science database to find the top 100 cited articles focusing on PND. We collected bibliographic information, including year of publication, country of origin, article type, published journal, citation count, and authorship. To determine changes with time, we compared older and newest articles.
The top 100 cited articles were published between 1955 and 2016; the number of citations ranged from 111 to 1248. In the present study, the isothermal crystallization from the supercooled liquid state of the pharmaceutical compound nifedipine was investigated by both rheological and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements, and the crystallization kinetics was fitted to the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) equation. Both the crystallization induction time and completion time from the two methods were used to construct the time-temperature-transformation (TTT) diagram for nifedipine. A model based on a modification of classical homogeneous nucleation and crystal growth theory was employed to fit the induction and completion time curves. Both DSC and rheological methods give similar results for the crystallization kinetics of the nifedipine. From the crystallization kinetics modeling, the solid-liquid interfacial surface tension σSL of nifedipine was estimated and the value was found to be consistent with prior results obtained from melting point depression measurements as a function of crystal size. Evidence is shown that for temperatures below 110 °C, at the early stage of nucleation, NIF first nucleates into the metastable β'-form and later converts into the stable α-form during the isothermal crystallization. We are also able to report the heat of fusion of the γ'-NIF based on the calorimetric experiments.We report switching of molecular conductance at finite bias in a binuclear organometallic complex and its cation which were previously experimentally analyzed at low voltages to see the signature of Kondo resonance. We observe that despite quantitative disagreements, the qualitative trend in the conductance is correctly predicted to be favorable for the cationic partner by both methods. We explain the results using the inherently high density of states for the low-lying excited states in the cationic partner which is also replicable from uncorrelated electronic structure methods.
