The vast majority of previous studies focused on the relationship between 1 meridian and 1 organ, and the comparison and specificity between 2 meridians is rarely explored. Thus, the aim of this study is to compare the heat transport characteristics between 2 different meridians and the specificity between them will also be investigated.
The Lung and Heart meridians are chosen for comparison of 2 different meridians. We will enroll 120 subjects and divide them into the healthy control group, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) group and healthy intervention group, in a 111 ratio. Infrared thermography (IRT) will be used to assess the heat transport characteristics of the Heart and Lung meridians. The specificity for the meridian-visceral association will be investigated by comparing the difference in heat transport characteristic between the Heart and Lung meridians in the healthy control group and COPD group. Meanwhile, moxibustion will be given to subjects in the Heart meridian and Lung meridian respectively in the healthy intervention group to verify the specificity for the surface-surface association.
The primary outcomes will be the temperature of corresponding sites along the Heart and Lung meridians.
This study will verify the specificity between different meridians by comparing the difference in heat transport characteristic. The findings will guide the selection of acupoints to optimize the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and help determine whether IRT could be used to assist in the diagnosis of COPD.

There are scanty data to apply radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy (rESWT) on the acupuncture points in the lower abdomen to reduce the menstrual pain. This trial aimed to test the rESWT safety and efficacy for treating primary dysmenorrhea (PD).
Forty-four young-women with PD were randomly assigned to one of the three groups to receive rESWT on the acupuncture points during the follicular phase (Group A, n = 15) or during the luteal phase (Group B, n = 14), or to apply heat patch to the acupuncture points during the follicular phase as the control (Group C, n = 15) over three menstrual cycles. The pain severity (using 0-to-10 visual analog scale), the pain duration (hours), plasma PGF2α prostaglandin F2alpha and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), self-rating anxiety scale and menstrual blood loss were assessed before and after interventions.
The pain severity and duration significantly decreased in all groups after interventions. Although the reduced pain duration was not different among the groups, the redl pain with PD. The changes in anxiety level and menstrual blood loss were slight after intervention.
The rESWT applications on the abdominal acupuncture points safely and effectively reduced the menstrual pain, which was not associated with the prostaglandin changes. The rESWT-reduced pain seemed equally effective with the intervention applied during the follicular phase or luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. Heat patch placed on the abdominal acupuncture points also reduced the pain severity and duration, indicating that the improved blood flow could effectively alleviate the menstrual pain with PD. The changes in anxiety level and menstrual blood loss were slight after intervention.
Soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) are heterogeneous at the clinical with a variable tendency of aggressive behavior. In this study, we constructed a specific DNA methylation-based classification to identify the distinct prognosis-subtypes of STSs based on the DNA methylation spectrum from the TCGA database. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/eht-1864.html Eventually, samples were clustered into 4 subgroups, and their survival curves were distinct from each other. Meanwhile, the samples in each subgroup reflected differentially in several clinical features. The selection operator algorithm was employed to dGenomes (KEGG) analysis was also conducted on the genes of the corresponding promoter regions of the above-described specific methylation sites, revealing that these genes were mainly concentrated in certain cancer-associated biological functions and pathways. In addition, we calculated the differences among clustered methylation sites and performed the specific methylation sites with LASSO algorithm. The selection operator algorithm was employed to derive a risk signature model, and a prognostic signature based on these methylation sites performed well for risk stratification in STSs patients. At last, a nomogram consisted of clinical features and risk score was developed for the survival prediction. This study declares that DNA methylation-based STSs subtype classification is highly relevant for future development of personalized therapy as it identifies the prediction value of patient prognosis.
Community acquired-pneumonia (CAP) has varying causative pathogens and clinical characteristics. This study investigated the prevalence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae (M pneumoniae) and evaluated the clinical characteristics in infected hospitalized children by disease severity.From throat swabs of hospitalized children (5 months to 14 years) with CAP collected between November 2017 and May 2018, M pneumoniae and other CAP pathogens were identified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Differences in clinical and laboratory test data were compared between severe and mild case groups.Of 333 hospitalized children enrolled, 221/333 (66.4%) tested positive for M pneumoniae and 24/221 (10.9%) patients were (n = 9, aged <5 years vs n = 15, ≥5 years) single infection by PCR, however, only 170/333 (51.1%) patients were presented with M pneumoniae IgM-positive. M pneumoniae detection rate by PCR was higher than by immunoglobulin (IgM) serology. In 123/221 (55.7%) M pneumoniae infected patients, coinfection with bacterial pathogens (n = 61, <5 years vs n = 62, ≥5 years) occurred.

Trichothecene mycotoxins are sesquiterpenoid compounds primarily produced by fungi in taxonomical genera such as Fusarium, Myrothecium, Stachybotrys, Trichothecium, and others, under specific climatic conditions on a worldwide basis. Fusarium mold is a major plant pathogen and produces a number of trichothecene mycotoxins including deoxynivalenol (or vomitoxin), nivalenol, diacetoxyscirpenol, and T-2 toxin, HT-2 toxin. Older children, those adopted from institutionalized care or with underlying disability, were more likely to be malnourished. Though long-term data was scarce, mean Z-scores post-adoption ranged from -0.59 to 0.53 for weight for age; -0.31 to 1.04 for weight for height; 0.39 to 1.04 for body mass index; -1.09 to 0.58 for height for age; -0.06 to 1.23 for head circumference for age. In Experiment 1 (n = 48), lip movements were present during familiar and disambiguation trials, but not retention trials. In Experiment 2 (n = 48), lip movements were present during all three trial types. In Experiment 3 (bilinguals only, n = 24), a still face with no lip movements was present in all three trial types. While toddlers succeeded in the familiar and disambiguation trials of every experiment, success in the retention trials was only found in Experiment 2. Leaf litter and its breakdown products represent an important input of organic matter and nutrients to mangrove sediments and adjacent coastal ecosystems. It is commonly assumed that old-grown stands with mature trees contribute more to the permanent sediment organic matter pool than younger stands. However, neither are interspecific differences in leaf decay rates taken into account in this assumption nor is our understanding of the underlying mechanisms or drivers of differences in leaf chemistry sufficient. This study examines the influence of different plant species and ontogenetic stage on the microbial decay of mangrove leaf litter. A litterbag experiment was conducted in the Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve, Malaysia, to monitor leaf litter mass loss, and changes in leaf litter chemistry and microbial enzyme activity. Four mangrove species of different morphologies were selected, namely the trees Rhizophora apiculata and Bruguiera parviflora, the fern Acrostichum aureum and the shrub Acanthus ilicifolius. Leaf litter mass, total phenolic content, protein precipitation capacity and phenol oxidase activity were found to decline rapidly during the early stage of decay. For R. apiculata, but not of the other species, leaf litter from immature plants decayed faster than the litter of mature plants. However, it is not yet known how associations between AMF and invasive plant populations change in mountains ranges and how changed associations affect further expansion of different populations in new habitats. We conducted a field survey to detect AMF colonization rate of the invasive Galinsoga quadriradiata along an elevational gradient ranging from 223 to 1947 masl in the Qinling and Bashan Mountains, China. Additionally, a greenhouse experiment was conducted to compare plant growth performance among five elevational populations. In the field, total plant mass and seed production, as well as root AMF colonization rate, significantly decreased with elevation. When populations were grown in a novel soil environment in the greenhouse, the high-altitude populations achieved higher seed and total mass at lower AMF colonization rate than the low-altitude populations. Moreover, high AMF association was related to high intraspecific competition within low-altitude populations and limited seed production. Our results revealed that the associations between AMF and G. quadriradiata decrease with altitude in mountain ranges, and this may indicate that differentiation of association between AMF and elevational populations occurs during range expansion of G. quadriradiata. The results of the greenhouse experiment suggest that the high-altitude populations are more aggressive than the low-altitude populations in a non-stressful environment.
Assessing cochlear implant (CI)-associated patient outcomes is a focus of implant research. Most studies have analyzed outcomes retrospectively with low patient numbers and few measurement time points. In addition, standardized CI-specific health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instruments have not been used. To address this, we prospectively assessed HRQoL in patients before and after implantation.
We assessed HRQoL using the Nijmegen Cochlear Implant Questionnaire (NCIQ), Abbreviated Profile of Hearing Aid Benefit (APHAB), Hearing Participation Scale (HPS), and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) in 100 deaf or severely hearing-impaired patients (57 unilaterally deaf and 43 bilaterally deaf) before and 3, 6, and 12months after cochlear implantation. We compared the results of unilaterally and bilaterally hearing-impaired patients and patients with or without a hearing aid. Principal component (PCA) and exploratory factor analyses (EFA) were also conducted.
The NCIQ measured improvements in all 6 domains after CI and correlated well with other QoL instruments. The PCA revealed that the NCIQ can be better explained by physical, physical advanced, and socio-psychological components. The APHAB score ameliorated over time, except for the background noise domain. The overall HPS score improved over time, but the hearing handicap subscore significantly decreased. Sociodemographic influences on the questionnaire scores were relatively weak.

The aim of this retrospective review study is to evaluate Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis (LRINEC) score as an indicative parameter in early detecting cervical necrotizing fasciitis (CNF) from deep neck infections (DNI).
We reviewed 12 cases of CNF and 538 cases of non-necrotizing deep neck infection hospitalized in our hospital over the last decade. Cervical necrotizing fasciitis was histologically confirmed.
Using an LRINEC score of 6 as a cutoff sensitivity was calculated at 100% (95% CI 99.9-100) and specificity 72.5% (95% CI 72.4-72.6). Negative predicted value (NPV) was 100% and positive predicted value (PPV) was 7.5%. C-reactive protein (CRP), white blood count (WBC), and glucose (Glu) levels have a higher correlation. Haemoglobin (Hb), sodium (Na), and creatinine (Cr) do not seem to have a big impact in our study.
LRINEC score proves to be a useful "rule-out" tool that works on the safe side with high sensitivity and poor specificity. WBC, CRP, and Glu seem to be the most significant variables of the LRINEC score.
Leaf litter and its breakdown products represent an important input of organic matter and nutrients to mangrove sediments and adjacent coastal ecosystems. It is commonly assumed that old-grown stands with mature trees contribute more to the permanent sediment organic matter pool than younger stands. However, neither are interspecific differences in leaf decay rates taken into account in this assumption nor is our understanding of the underlying mechanisms or drivers of differences in leaf chemistry sufficient. This study examines the influence of different plant species and ontogenetic stage on the microbial decay of mangrove leaf litter. A litterbag experiment was conducted in the Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve, Malaysia, to monitor leaf litter mass loss, and changes in leaf litter chemistry and microbial enzyme activity. Four mangrove species of different morphologies were selected, namely the trees Rhizophora apiculata and Bruguiera parviflora, the fern Acrostichum aureum and the shrub Acanthus ilicifolius. We conducted a field survey to detect AMF colonization rate of the invasive Galinsoga quadriradiata along an elevational gradient ranging from 223 to 1947 masl in the Qinling and Bashan Mountains, China. Additionally, a greenhouse experiment was conducted to compare plant growth performance among five elevational populations. In the field, total plant mass and seed production, as well as root AMF colonization rate, significantly decreased with elevation. When populations were grown in a novel soil environment in the greenhouse, the high-altitude populations achieved higher seed and total mass at lower AMF colonization rate than the low-altitude populations. Moreover, high AMF association was related to high intraspecific competition within low-altitude populations and limited seed production. Our results revealed that the associations between AMF and G. quadriradiata decrease with altitude in mountain ranges, and this may indicate that differentiation of association between AMF and elevational populations occurs during range expansion of G. quadriradiata. The results of the greenhouse experiment suggest that the high-altitude populations are more aggressive than the low-altitude populations in a non-stressful environment. Diabetes is a global public health threat with a considerably high burden in low- and middle-income countries. The application of self-care practice by people living with diabetes helps to manage diabetes and its complications, and to lengthen their life. However, the level of diabetes self-care practice in Ethiopia is very low.
A cross-sectional study was conducted among people living with type 2 diabetes who were on follow-up from January 01 to 31, 2019 at Yekatit 12 Hospital. A systematic sampling technique was employed to recruit 354 study participants. A face-to-face interview was administered by trained data collectors using a structured questionnaire. Diabetes self-care practice was assessed by using Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) scale. Multi-variable binary logistic regression analysis was carried out to identify factors associated with diabetes self-care practice.
More than half (52.0%, 95% CI 49.9% - 57.1%) of the people living with diabetes had poor diabetes self-care practs and educating about the severity of the disease for better management of blood sugar levels and hindrance of complications.
Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a common sequela of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), arising from the combined effects of gastrointestinal blood loss and reduced iron absorption. Given this, intravenous (IV) iron should be considered as the first-line treatment in patients with clinically active IBD. The present study evaluated the budget impact of administering IV iron with ferric derisomaltose (FDI) versus ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) in patients with IDA and IBD in Norway, Sweden, and Finland.
A cohort level model of iron need was developed using a bivariate distribution of hemoglobin and bodyweight based on observational data from a multi-country Scandinavian study of patients with IDA and IBD. The base case analysis was conducted over 5 years in patients with IDA with mean bodyweight of 75.4 kg (SD 17.5 kg) and hemoglobin levels of 10.77 g/dL (SD 1.43 g/dL). Infusion costs were modeled using diagnosis-related groups. Sensitivity analyses were performed around different patient characteristics, care sts with IDA and IBD. The reduction in infusions was accompanied by substantial cost savings relative to FCM over 5 years across all three Nordic countries evaluated.
Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) is an information system for health management and planning at district, regional, and national levels. Problems of data collection and processing, poor information use, lack of identifying information required at specific levels, and inadequacy of resources are hindering the implementation of the program.

The assessment was conducted in South West Shoa Zone hospitals using a cross-sectional study design. Using three dimensions, namely, availability of resources, compliance to guideline, and utilization of information were studied. All hospitals in the zone were included and 210 health workers were included in the study. Quantitative data were entered into Epi-data and analyzed using SPSS.v.23. Descriptive summery was done using the proportion and frequencies and qualitative results were analyzed thematically. The tation status of HMIS in the study area was poorly implemented according to the preset criteria with stakeholders. Therefore, allocation of budget specifically for HMIS, strengthening capacity building activities such as training and supportive supervision with written feedbacks are recommended for effective implementation of the Health Management Information System.

Quantitative Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) was employed to detect miR-802-5p expression. Western blot was performed to detect protein expression. Flow cytometry and terminal dexynucleotidyl transferase (TdT)-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining were performed to observe myocardial apoptosis. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining was used to observe the morphology of myocardial tissue. The cardiac function of rats was detected using echocardiography.

Coronary artery disease (***) is the main cause of mortality worldwide. How stable coronary artery disease (SCAD) progresses to acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is not known. This study was aimed to explore the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and pathways involved in the progression of SCAD to AMI.
Publicly available gene-expression profiles (GSE71226, GSE97320, GSE66360) were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and integrated to identify DEGs. The GSE59867 dataset was further used to verify the result of screened DEGs. Functional-enrichment analyses, protein-protein interaction network, microRNA-transcription factor (TF)-mRNA regulatory network, and drug-gene network were visualized.
Sixty common DEGs (CDEGs) were screened between the SCAD-Control group and AMI-Control group in the integrated dataset. Four upregulated DEGs were selected from GSE59867. Twenty hub genes were discovered, and three significant modules were constructed in the PPI network. This study aims to evaluate the changes in left ventricular diastolic function after coronary artery bypass grafting through tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) concentration and the correlation between the two.
A total of 133 patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting between January 2016 and December 2018 were included in this study. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/fluzoparib.html Echocardiography and NT-proBNP concentration were reviewed pre-operation, 1 month post-operation, and 3-6 months post-operation. The transmitral peak flow velocity (E) of the mitral valve was measured at each of the three-time points using spectral Doppler imaging. The mitral annulus displacement (Ea peak and Aa peak) was then measured at each of the time points using TDI, and the E/Ea ratio was calculated. Subsequently, the correlation of the E value, Ea value, and E/Ea ratio with NT-proBNP concentration was statistically analyzed.

Changes of microRNAs (miRNAs) may contribute to the pathogenesis and progression of postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in patients undergoing cardiac valve surgery. This study aimed to measure the expression levels of miRNAs in peripheral blood, as well as their target mRNAs, in POAF patients and normal controls (non-POAF), and to evaluate the potential of miRNAs as promising biomarkers to predict POAF.
The expression of miRNAs in peripheral blood, including miR-27b, miR-133a, miR-328, miR-499 and their target mRNAs, was analyzed in 109 POAF patients and 96 non-POAF patients via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). We compared differences between the two groups and also analyzed the treat reaction to amiodarone.
All miRNAs in POAF patients were significantly highly expressed. Compared to non-POAF, the expression of miR-27b, miR-133a, miR-328, miR-499 increased in both groups of POAF patients, and miR-499 was the only upregulated miRNAs in the amiodarone - group versus amiodarone + group and non-POAF.

A20 haploinsufficiency (HA20) is an early-onset autoinflammatory disease caused by mutations in the TNFAIP3 gene, which encodes the protein A20. Predictive maintenance of production lines is important to early detect possible defects and thus identify and apply the required maintenance activities to avoid possible breakdowns. An important concern in predictive maintenance is the prediction of remaining useful life (RUL), which is an estimate of the number of remaining years that a component in a production line is estimated to be able to function in accordance with its intended purpose before warranting replacement. In this study, we propose a novel machine learning-based approach for automating the prediction of the failure of equipment in continuous production lines. The proposed model applies normalization and principle component analysis during the pre-processing stage, utilizes interpolation, uses grid search for parameter optimization, and is built with multilayer perceptron neural network (MLP) machine learning algorithm. We have evaluated the approach using a case study research to predict the RUL of engines on NASA turbo engine datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that the performance of our proposed model is effective in predicting the RUL of turbo engines and likewise substantially enhances predictive maintenance results.Thermography enables non-invasive, accessible, and easily repeated foot temperature measurements for diabetic patients, promoting early detection and regular monitoring protocols, that limit the incidence of disabling conditions associated with diabetic foot disorders. The establishment of this application into standard diabetic care protocols requires to overcome technical issues, particularly the foot sole segmentation. In this work we implemented and evaluated several segmentation approaches which include conventional and Deep Learning methods. Multimodal images, constituted by registered visual-light, infrared and depth images, were acquired for 37 healthy subjects. The segmentation methods explored were based on both visual-light as well as infrared images, and optimization was achieved using the spatial information provided by the depth images. Furthermore, a ground truth was established from the manual segmentation performed by two independent researchers. Overall, the performance level of all the implemented approaches was satisfactory. Although the best performance, in terms of spatial overlap, accuracy, and precision, was found for the Skin and U-Net approaches optimized by the spatial information. Thoracic and lumbar vertebrae (T5-L5) were automatically segmented, and bone mineral density (BMD), finite element (FE)-based failure-load, and failure-displacement were determined. These values of individual vertebrae were normalized globally (g), by dividing the absolute value with the average of L1-3 and locally by dividing the absolute value with the average of T5-12 and L1-5 for thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, respectively. Mean-BMD of L1-3 was determined as reference. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) and area under the curve (AUC) were calculated for different normalized FE (Kload, Kdisplacement,K(load)g, and K(displacement)g) and BMD (KBMD, and K(BMD)g) ratio parameter combinations for identifying incidental fractures. Kload, K(load)g, KBMD, and K(BMD)g showed significantly higher discriminative power compared to standard mean BMD of L1-3 (BMDStandard) (AUC = 0.67 for Kload; 0.64 for K(load)g; 0.64 for KBMD; 0.61 for K(BMD)g vs. 0.54 for BMDStandard). The combination of Kload, Kdisplacement, and KBMD increased the AUC further up to 0.77 (p less then 0.001). The combination of FE with BMD measurements derived from routine thoracic/abdominal **** allowed an improved prediction of incidental fractures at vertebral-specific level.In this study, cellulose-based derivatives with heterocyclic moieties were synthesized by reacting cellulose with furan-2-carbonyl chloride (Cell-F) and pyridine-2,6-dicarbonyl dichloride (Cell-P). The derivatives were evaluated as adsorbents for the pesticide tetraconazole from aqueous solution. The prepared adsorbents were characterized by SEM, TGA, IR, and H1 NMR instruments. To maximize the adsorption efficiency of tetraconazole, the optimum conditions of contact time, pH, temperature, adsorbent dose, and initial concentration of adsorbate were determined. The highest removal percentage of tetraconazole from water was 98.51% and 95% using Cell-F and Cell-P, respectively. Underivatized nanocellulose was also evaluated as an adsorbent for tetraconazole for comparison purpose, and it showed a removal efficiency of about 91.73%. The best equilibrium adsorption isotherm model of each process was investigated based on the experimental and calculated R2 values of Freundlich and Langmuir models. In this study, we reported that neddylation blockade induces cell migration depending on p53 status, specifically via the EMT-promoting transcription factor Slug. In cancer cell lines expressing wild type p53, neddylation blockade increased the transcriptional activity of p53 and expression of its downstream genes p21 and MDM2, eventually promoting proteasomal degradation of Slug. In the absence of p53, neddylation blockade increased cell migration by activating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR/Slug signaling axis.

The establishment of this application into standard diabetic care protocols requires to overcome technical issues, particularly the foot sole segmentation. In this work we implemented and evaluated several segmentation approaches which include conventional and Deep Learning methods. Multimodal images, constituted by registered visual-light, infrared and depth images, were acquired for 37 healthy subjects. The segmentation methods explored were based on both visual-light as well as infrared images, and optimization was achieved using the spatial information provided by the depth images. Furthermore, a ground truth was established from the manual segmentation performed by two independent researchers. Overall, the performance level of all the implemented approaches was satisfactory. Although the best performance, in terms of spatial overlap, accuracy, and precision, was found for the Skin and U-Net approaches optimized by the spatial information. Mean-BMD of L1-3 was determined as reference. The derivatives were evaluated as adsorbents for the pesticide tetraconazole from aqueous solution. The prepared adsorbents were characterized by SEM, TGA, IR, and H1 NMR instruments. The dimensions are sense of obligation to care for the natural environment, sense of obligation to practice eco-friendly activities, sense of obligation to purchase eco-friendly products, and sense of obligation to support eco-friendly inventions. ELISA and conventional PCR were performed consecutively to detect HCMV specific IgM antibody and HCMV DNA respectively. Of the 97 study subjects, 12 (12.4%) were positive for anti-CMV IgM antibodies but were not confirmed by PCR. With regard to the PCR positivity, 4/97 (4.1%) samples were positive for HCMV DNA. No statically significant associations were found between the dependent and independent variables. Tandem carotid artery lesions that involve simultaneous internal carotid artery (ICA) and common carotid artery (CCA) stenoses present a complex clinical problem. Some studies have shown that the addition of a retrograde proximal intervention to treat a CCA lesion during a carotid endarterectomy (CEA) increases the risk of stroke and death. However, the stroke and death risks associated with a totally endovascular approach to tandem lesions is unknown and is the subject of this study.
Vascular Study Group of New England data for the years 2005 to 2020 were queried for carotid artery stenting (CAS) procedures. Emergent and bilateral procedures, procedures for indications other than atherosclerosis, patients with prior ipsilateral CAS, ICA lesions with stenosis of less than 50%, and transcarotid procedures were excluded. The cohort was divided into tandem and isolated lesion groups. The primary outcome was the composite of stroke and death. Predictors of stroke or death were determined with multivariable loutcome in the multivariable model included treatment of tandem lesions (odds ratio [OR], 3.10; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.39-6.89; P= .006), symptomatic lesions (OR, 2.24; 95% CI, 1.21-4.17; P= .010), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (OR, 2.14; 95% CI, 1.17-3.92; P= .014), general anesthesia (OR, 3.34; 95% CI, 1.35-8.26; P= .009), and advancing age (OR, 1.05 per year; 95% CI, 1.01-1.09; P= .006).

An Hansen sphere was created based on the HSP values and Vitrigel-EIT results from 61 substances. Substances inside and outside of the sphere were designated as dangerous and safe substances, respectively. The safety of each test substance was predicted by comparing the center point (Ro) of the sphere with the relative energy difference, i.e., the ratio of each test substance (Ra). The accuracy, false negativity, and false positivity of the "irritant" and "nonirritant" designations, as determined by the Vitrigel-EIT results and Hansen sphere, were 91.8% (56/61), 2.3% (1/43), and 22.2% (4/18), respectively. These results indicated that HSP values can be used to predict Vitrigel-EIT results with high reproducibility, and thus are useful for evaluating the safety of substances.

Here, we found that CBP/P300 inhibitors, with high efficacy and low toxicity, might be promising radiation mitigators that can cure RIGS.
Exvivo 3D organoid cultures derived from mouse jejunum and human ileum and colon were used to examine the radio-mitigative effects of CBP/P300 inhibitors. One such theory, put forth by Andreasen and colleagues, suggested that schizophrenia involves a disruption in the integration of cortical-striatal-thalamic-cerebellar circuits.1 Anatomical work in primates has shown that the thalamus is topographically organized into parallel pathways connecting specific thalamic nuclei to different regions of cortex. The medial dorsal and anterior nuclei of the thalamus project to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC), whereas the lateral nuclei project more to sensorimotor regions, with similar findings in functional brain connectivity studies in humans. A large body of evidence has shown reduced connectivity from bilateral thalamic regions, medial dorsal, and anterior nuclei in particular, to the bilateral dlPFC, dorsal anterior cingulate, parts of the striatum, and bilateral cerebellum in schizophrenia.2 This is often coupled increased connectivity between the thalamus, lateral nuclei in particular, and motor, visual, and/or auditory sensory regions.2.Eye irritation predictions are very important in the development of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. For animal protection, alternative tests are being developed to replace the Draize test, which involves the use of rabbits to test eye irritation. The Vitrigel-eye irritancy test (Vitrigel-EIT), is one such alternative. As a preliminary study, we evaluated if Hansen solubility parameter (HSP) values can be used to predict Vitrigel-EIT results. An Hansen sphere was created based on the HSP values and Vitrigel-EIT results from 61 substances. Substances inside and outside of the sphere were designated as dangerous and safe substances, respectively. The safety of each test substance was predicted by comparing the center point (Ro) of the sphere with the relative energy difference, i.e., the ratio of each test substance (Ra). The accuracy, false negativity, and false positivity of the "irritant" and "nonirritant" designations, as determined by the Vitrigel-EIT results and Hansen sphere, were 91.8% (56/61), 2.3% (1/43), and 22.2% (4/18), respectively. These results indicated that HSP values can be used to predict Vitrigel-EIT results with high reproducibility, and thus are useful for evaluating the safety of substances. Radiation-induced gastrointestinal syndrome (RIGS) is currently the main cause of death for people exposed to a high dose of irradiation during nuclear incidents, and there is currently no approved effective therapy. Here, we found that CBP/P300 inhibitors, with high efficacy and low toxicity, might be promising radiation mitigators that can cure RIGS. Exvivo 3D organoid cultures derived from mouse jejunum and human ileum and colon were used to examine the radio-mitigative effects of CBP/P300 inhibitors. The radio-mitigative effect was evaluated by quantifying the survival rate and size of organoids after radiation. SGC-CBP30 (50 mg/kg body weight), an inhibitor of CBP/P300, was intraperitoneally injected into C57B/6J mice 24 hours after subtotal-body irradiation or whole-body irradiation. The regenerated crypts and animal survival were determined by microcolony assay and the Kaplan-Meier method, respectively. Lgr5-lacZ mice were used to evaluate the survival of intestinal stem cells after treatments.
