Quality of life can be influenced by oral mucositis (OM), and it is necessary to implement OM management strategies before the initiation of radiotherapy (RT) in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC).
To examine the association between the cumulative radiation dose and the incidence of severe OM in HNC patients receiving RT.
A retrospective observational cohort study was conducted in a Showa University Fujigaoka Hospital, in Japan. We retrospectively analyzed 94 patients with HNC who developed OM during RT. We defined OM as a more than grade 2 OM. The cumulative incidence of OM curves of the two categories was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank test. We estimated the hazard ratio (HR) for OM after the adjustment of factors for covariates using Cox's regression analysis. Patients with smoking history had a significantly later development of OM than those with no smoking history (20 Gy-incidence OM 68.7% vs 39.7%, P = .003). In contrast, patients undergoing concurrent chemotherapy had an earlier development of OM than those undergoing RT alone (20 Gy-incidence OM 24.2% vs 55.7%, P < .001). Multivariate analysis revealed that no smoking history and concurrent chemotherapy were independent predictive factors, with a HR of 0.526 (P = .025) and 2.690 (P < .001), respectively.

In India, caregivers are an integral part of the illness experience, especially in cancer, to the extent that they can become proxy decision-makers for the patient. Further, owing to acute resource constraints in the Indian healthcare system, it may be difficult for oncologists to assess and elicit questions from each patient/caregiver. Consequently, there is a need to address these unique aspects of oncology care in India to improve patient outcomes and understanding of their illness and treatment. This can be achieved through a Question Prompt List (QPL), a checklist used by care recipients during medical consultations.
This narrative review will first introduce research on the development and effectiveness of the QPL, and then it will highlight current gaps in oncology care in India and explore how the QPL may aid in closing these gaps. A literature search of the empirical research focused on the development, feasibility and acceptability of the QPL in oncology settings was conducted. The final review caregivers may focus on the scope of medical consultations to address patient needs while influencing the course and content of the patient-caregiver-physician interactions. Further, it can address the resource constraints in Indian oncology care settings, thus reducing the physician's burden.
In their early stages, serious mental illnesses (SMIs) are often indistinguishable from one another, suggesting that studying alterations in brain activity in a transdiagnostic fashion could help to understand the neurophysiological origins of different SMI. The purpose of this study was to examine brain activity in youth at varying stages of risk for SMI using functional magnetic resonance imaging tasks (fMRI) that engage brain systems believed to be affected.
Two hundred and forty three participants at different stages of risk for SMI were recruited to the Canadian Psychiatric Risk and Outcome (PROCAN) study, however only 179 were scanned. Stages included asymptomatic participants at no elevated risk, asymptomatic participants at elevated risk due to family history, participants with undifferentiated general symptoms of mental illness, and those experiencing attenuated versions of diagnosable psychiatric illnesses. The fMRI tasks included (1) a monetary incentive delay task; (2) an emotional Go-NoGo and (3) an n-**** working memory task.
Strong main effects with each of the tasks were found in brain regions previously described in the literature. However, there were no significant differences in brain activity between any of the stages of risk for SMI for any of the task contrasts, after accounting for site, sex and age. Furthermore, results indicated no significant differences even when participants were dichotomized as asymptomatic or symptomatic.
These results suggest that univariate BOLD responses during typical fMRI tasks are not sensitive markers of SMI risk and that further study, particularly longitudinal designs, will be necessary to understand brain changes underlying the early stages of SMI.

Cardiovascular risk is increased in people living with HIV (PLWH). In HIV-uninfected populations, total absolute monocyte count (AMC) has been shown to be predictive of future cardiovascular events (CVEs). We sought to determine whether AMC predicts CVEs in PLWH independent of established and HIV-related cardiovascular risk factors.
We identified all PLWH within the Partners HIV Cohort without factors that could confound the monocyte count. CVE was defined as fatal or non-fatal acute myocardial infarction or ischaemic stroke. Baseline-measured AMC was defined as the average of all outpatient AMC counts a year before and after the baseline date. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess the association of baseline AMC with CVEs.
Our cohort consisted of 1980 patients, with median follow-up of 10.9years and 182 CVEs. Mean (±SD) age was 41.9±9.3 years; 73.0% were male. Mean CD4 count was 506.3±307.1cells/µL, 48% had HIV viral load (VL) <400 copies/mL, and 87% were on antiretroviral therapy. Mean AMC was 0.38×10

There is a paucity of evidence for an association between internal and external training load parameters and injury risk in elite youth soccer players.Anastomotic leakage (AL) is a serious but not uncommon complication after colorectal surgery. We conducted this study to evaluate the effect of routine indocyanine green fluorescence angiography (ICG-FA) on reducing the AL rate after colorectal surgery. We identified all research articles about colorectal surgery using ICG-FA, published in the PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases from the date of database establishment to May 2020. Revman 5.3 was used for statistical analysis. We analyzed 22 controlled studies and 7 non-controlled studies on ICG-FA, including 6312 patients. The controlled studies included 2354 patients in the ICG group and 3522 patients in the non-ICG group. Meta-analysis showed that ICG-FA reduced the AL rate after colorectal surgery significantly (RR = 0.39; 95% CI 0.30-0.50; P less then 0.00001). However, patients whose resection line was changed based on the fluorescence angiography had a higher AL rate than those whose resection line was not changed (OR = 5.37; 95% CI 2.67-10quality randomized-controlled trials with a placebo control are needed to further evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ICG-FA.Immobilization of bacterial cells on suitable substrates is of utmost importance in the secondary treatment of wastewater using fixed-film reactors. Therefore, screening of efficient and cheaper materials for bacterial surface immobilization was carried out. Eleven waste materials were used as substrates, packed in a column, and bacterial surface immobilization was carried out using *** dung slurry/MLSS mixture. All the chosen substrates were screened for bacterial immobilization/biofilm formation by standard bacterial enumeration technique. The substrate with the highest biofilm-forming ability was used for secondary treatment of raw domestic wastewater. The results showed that high-density polyethylene and aluminium foil sheets have poor immobilizing characteristics with 2.2 × 108 and 2.4 × 108 CFU/cm2 respectively, whereas jute fibres were observed to be the most efficient among the substrates with 5.1 × 1023 CFU/cm2. The column packed with jute fibres was used for wastewater treatment. Various physico-chemical parameters were analyzed before and after treatment and there was a significant reduction in major parameters after treatment. The bacteria-immobilized jute fibres showed maximum immobilization potential and were highly efficient in wastewater treatment, and therefore these findings offer immense promise in the synthesis of composite polymers for bacterial immobilization and subsequent secondary treatment.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, creating tools to assess disease severity is one of the most important aspects of reducing the burden on emergency departments. Lung ultrasound has a high accuracy for the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases; however, there are few prospective studies demonstrating that lung ultrasound can predict outcomes in COVID-19 patients. We hypothesized that lung ultrasound score (LUS) at hospital admission could predict outcomes of COVID-19 patients. This is a prospective cohort study conducted from 14 March through 6 May 2020 in the emergency department (ED) of an urban, academic, level I trauma center. Patients aged 18years and older and admitted to the ED with confirmed COVID-19 were considered eligible. Emergency physicians performed lung ultrasounds and calculated LUS, which was tested for correlation with outcomes. This protocol was approved by the local Ethics Committee number 3.990.817 (CAAE 30417520.0.0000.0068).
The primary endpoint was death from any cause. The secondary endpoints were ICU admission and endotracheal intubation for respiratory failure. To study the effect of physiologically important potassium ion on the structure and function of lactoperoxidase, the fresh protein samples were isolated from yak (Bos grunniens) colostrum and purified to homogeneity. The biochemical studies with potassium fluoride showed a significant reduction in the catalytic activity. Lactoperoxidase was crystallized using 200 mM ammonium nitrate and 20% PEG-3350 at pH 6.0. The crystals of LPO were soaked in the solution of potassium fluoride and used for the X-ray intensity data collection. Structure determination at 2.20 Å resolution revealed the presence of a potassium ion in the distal heme cavity. Structure determination further revealed that the propionic chain attached to pyrrole ring C of the heme moiety, was disordered into two components each having an occupancy of 0.

To identify predictors of sepsis after flexible ureteroscopy (fURS) in patients with unilateral, solitary, proximal ureteral stones and evaluate the association between albumin-globulin ratio (AGR) and sepsis.
Overall, 759 patients who underwent fURS were retrospectively enrolled. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify predictors of sepsis after fURS in patients with solitary proximal ureteral stones. Then A nomogram was generated using the predictors.
Sepsis occurred in 43 patients (5.7%), and 6 (0.8%) of them developed septic shock. Univariate analysis showed that age, female sex, albumin concentration, globulin concentration, AGR, pre-operative fever, white blood cell (WBC) count, urine culture (UC) result, urine WBC count, and urine nitrite result were predictors of sepsis. Multivariate analysis identified AGR <1.2 [odds ratio (OR) =2.810, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.245-6.342, P=0.013] and positive UC (OR =10.520, 95% CI 4.489-24.653, P<0.001) as independent predictors. When AGR <1.2 and positive UC were combined, area under the receiver operator characteristic curve was 0.825. Then patients were categorized by different AGR level ("≥1.4", "1.2-1.4", "1.0-1.2", "<1.0"), and corresponding sepsis rates were 27.7%, 9.8%, 4.5% and 2.5%.
Positive UC and low AGR were independent predictors of post-fURS sepsis. Cautious pre-operative evaluation and optimized treatment strategy should be considered to minimize infectious complications.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is common in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). A literature search was conducted on PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science until May 31, 2019. Primary outcomes were ED prevalence and each domain score of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire. We used age-matched dialysis patients or patients before kidney transplantation as a control group and compared them to kidney transplant recipients.
A total of 9 articles were finally enrolled in the study. Compared with the control group, the kidney transplantation group had a lower prevalence of ED (OR 0.49, 95% CI 0.28-0.86) and higher domain scores for erectile function (SMD 0.53, 95% CI 0.12-0.94) and sexual desire (SMD 1.19, 95% CI 0.11-2.27). The effect of donor kidney morphology parameters on the prognosis of renal transplant recipients remains unclear.
We conducted a retrospective cohort study consisting of 290 pairs of donors and recipients who underwent living related renal transplantation in our center between December 2013 and December 2015. The donor kidney morphology parameters, demographic characteristics and renal function of the included participants were collected and analyzed.
The univariate linear regression analysis revealed that the donor kidney weight (DKW)/recipient body weight (RBW), DKW/recipient body surface area (RBSA), DKW/recipient body mass index (RBMI), donor kidney volume (DKV)/RBW, DKV/RBSA, DKV/RBMI, and donor body weight (DBW)/RBW were significantly correlated with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and serum creatinine in recipients within two years of transplantation. In our multivariate linear regression analysis, DKW/RBW and donor age significantly correlated with eGFR at 6, 12, 18 and 24 months aftecially when the age of the donor was 55 years and above.

To identify predictors of sepsis after flexible ureteroscopy (fURS) in patients with unilateral, solitary, proximal ureteral stones and evaluate the association between albumin-globulin ratio (AGR) and sepsis. Overall, 759 patients who underwent fURS were retrospectively enrolled. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify predictors of sepsis after fURS in patients with solitary proximal ureteral stones. Then A nomogram was generated using the predictors. Sepsis occurred in 43 patients (5.7%), and 6 (0.8%) of them developed septic shock. Univariate analysis showed that age, female sex, albumin concentration, globulin concentration, AGR, pre-operative fever, white blood cell (WBC) count, urine culture (UC) result, urine WBC count, and urine nitrite result were predictors of sepsis. Multivariate analysis identified AGR <1.2 [odds ratio (OR) =2.810, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.245-6.342, P=0.013] and positive UC (OR =10.520, 95% CI 4.489-24.653, P<0.001) as independent predictors. When AGR <1.2 and positive UC were combined, area under the receiver operator characteristic curve was 0.825. Then patients were categorized by different AGR level ("≥1.4", "1.2-1.4", "1.0-1.2", "<1.0"), and corresponding sepsis rates were 27.7%, 9.8%, 4.5% and 2.5%. Positive UC and low AGR were independent predictors of post-fURS sepsis. Cautious pre-operative evaluation and optimized treatment strategy should be considered to minimize infectious complications. A literature search was conducted on PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science until May 31, 2019. Primary outcomes were ED prevalence and each domain score of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire. We used age-matched dialysis patients or patients before kidney transplantation as a control group and compared them to kidney transplant recipients. A total of 9 articles were finally enrolled in the study. From the establishment of database to October 2020, 2 researchers independently extracted and evaluated the data included in the randomized controlled clinical research of milk thistle preventive treatment of anti-tuberculosis drug-induced liver injury, and used RevMan5.3 software to conduct a meta-analysis of the included literature.
In this research, the efficacy and safety of milk thistle preventive treatment of anti-tuberculosis drug-induced liver injury were evaluated by indicators such as the incidence of liver injury, bilirubin levels, and liver enzyme levels.
In this research, reliable evidence-based evidence for the clinical application of milk thistle in the preventive treatment of anti-tuberculosis drug-induced liver injury was provided.

Surgery is the only curative treatment for cholangiocarcinoma, but even after surgery, survival rates are unsatisfactory. Recently, several reports have suggested microvascular invasion (MiVi) is associated with poor postoperative prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We considered that MiVi might be associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with surgically resectable cholangiocarcinoma.The records of 91 patients who underwent resection with curative intent for cholangiocarcinoma at Inha University Hospital from 2007 to 2017 were comprehensively reviewed for clinicopathological characteristics, DFS, and overall survival (OS) relations between these factors and the presence of MiVi.Forty-nine of the 91 study subjects had MiVi and 42 did not. Median overall survivals were 492 days in the MiVi group and 1008 days in the noMiVi group and median DFSs were 367 days and 760 days, respectively. Cumulative survival ratio and recurrence incidence rates were significantly different in the 2 groups (P =iVi.Forty-nine of the 91 study subjects had MiVi and 42 did not. Median overall survivals were 492 days in the MiVi group and 1008 days in the noMiVi group and median DFSs were 367 days and 760 days, respectively. Cumulative survival ratio and recurrence incidence rates were significantly different in the 2 groups (P = .012). TLR2 -196 to -174, TLR4 rs4986790, TLR7 rs179008, TLR8 rs3764880, TLR9 rs352140 were found associated with clinical findings of HIV infection. This study aimed to investigate whether extrathyroidal extension (ETE) and cervical lymph node metastasis (LNM) can be predicted using elasticity parameters of shear-wave elastography (SWE) combined with B-mode ultrasound (US) of papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs).We retrospectively reviewed 111 patients who underwent preoperative SWE evaluation among PTC patients from July 1, 2016 to June 20, 2018. Patients were divided into 2 groups based on the presence or absence of ETE based on pathology reports. Univariate and multivariate analyses of clinical and radiologic features including B-mode US features, US patterns, and SWE parameters were performed. These analyses were repeated in LNM positive and negative groups. The diagnostic performance of SWE parameters were also evaluated.Of the 111 patients, 33 had ETE, 78 did not have ETE, 44 had LNM, and 67 did not have LNM. A taller-than-wide shape and T3 stage on US were associated with ETE. Female sex, total thyroidectomy, and T3 stage on US were associated wit, 78 did not have ETE, 44 had LNM, and 67 did not have LNM. A taller-than-wide shape and T3 stage on US were associated with ETE. Female sex, total thyroidectomy, and T3 stage on US were associated with LNM. Adverse events (AEs) are unfortunate consequences of platelet donation. This study reports the incidence and severity of AEs and the associated risk factors in platelet donation at a major blood donation center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.A review of donation records was conducted between 2014 and 2017. Eligible study participants were 5007 platelet donors who had donated 7969 times. Each donation was accounted for as a single study subject. Participants' characteristics were described and analyzed as potential contributing factors to adverse events.The average age of platelet donors was 30.0±7.3 years. First-time donors comprised (n = 3,100, 61.9%) of the sample, and 1907 (38.1%) were multiple donors (periodic/routine). Their average BMI was 28.6 ± 4.9 kg/m2. Most donors have blood type "O" and Rheo "positive". The range of blood volume processed was 0 to 5273 ml, while the procedure duration ranged from 0 to 90 minutes. The average platelet yield was 3.8 ± 3.5 ∗1011 platelets per unit, and the average collected volume was 257.

The cognitive processing of spatial relations in Euclidean diagrams is central to the diagram-based geometric practice of Euclid's Elements. In this study, we investigate this processing through two dichotomies among spatial relations-metric vs topological and exact vs co-exact-introduced by Manders in his seminal epistemological analysis of Euclid's geometric practice. To this end, we carried out a two-part experiment where participants were asked to judge spatial relations in Euclidean diagrams in a visual half field task design. In the first part, we tested whether the processing of metric vs topological relations yielded the same hemispheric specialization as the processing of coordinate vs categorical relations. In the second part, we investigated the specific performance patterns for the processing of five pairs of exact/co-exact relations, where stimuli for the co-exact relations were divided into three categories depending on their distance from the exact case. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/nvp-dky709.html Regarding the processing of metric vs topological relations, hemispheric differences were found for only a few of the stimuli used, which may indicate that other processing mechanisms might be at play. Whether clinicians need to treat all asymptomatic thrombosis in children, given the likelihood of long-term sequelae, is unclear and there are significant risks associated with anticoagulation treatment. Asymptomatic thrombosis in children is most frequently associated with central venous catheters (CVCs). The incidence of asymptomatic CVC-related VTE is highest in cohorts of children with cancer, but also reported in neonates, children with congenital heart disease and critically ill children. There is significant variation in reported rates of CVC-related thrombosis among cohorts of children with different underlying diseases and of various ages. As asymptomatic thrombosis is often an incidental finding, rates of asymptomatic VTE in children are most likely underestimated. Evidence about the incidence, characteristics and long-term outcomes associated with asymptomatic thrombosis in children often lacks precision as data is presented collectively with symptomatic thrombosis. Bright-field transmission electron microscope (TEM) images of ion milled or focused ion beam (FIB) sections of cortical bone sectioned parallel to the long axis of collagen fibrils display an electron-dense phase in the gap zones of the fibrils, as well as elongated plates (termed mineral lamellae) comprised of apatite crystals, which surround and lie between the fibrils. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) studies by others have shown that the material in the gap zones is calcium phosphate. Dark-field (DF) images are capable of revealing the projected position of crystals of apatite in a section of bone. We obtained bright field (BF) images of ion milled sections of bovine femoral cortical bone cut parallel to fibril axes (longitudinal view), and compared them with DF images obtained using the (002) apatite reflection to test a widely held theory that most of the mineral in bone resides in the gap zones. Most apatite crystals which were illuminated in DF images and which projected onto gap zones were extensions of crystals that also project onto adjacent overlap zones. The cognitive processing of spatial relations in Euclidean diagrams is central to the diagram-based geometric practice of Euclid's Elements. In this study, we investigate this processing through two dichotomies among spatial relations-metric vs topological and exact vs co-exact-introduced by Manders in his seminal epistemological analysis of Euclid's geometric practice. To this end, we carried out a two-part experiment where participants were asked to judge spatial relations in Euclidean diagrams in a visual half field task design. In the first part, we tested whether the processing of metric vs topological relations yielded the same hemispheric specialization as the processing of coordinate vs categorical relations. As asymptomatic thrombosis is often an incidental finding, rates of asymptomatic VTE in children are most likely underestimated. The Tooth Wear Evaluation System (TWES) is a type of tooth wear index. To date, there is the lack of data comparing the reliability of the application of this index on gypsum cast records and digital greyscale intra-oral scan records.
A comparative evaluation between the use of gypsum cast records and digital greyscale intra-oral scan records with the reliability of tooth wear scoring using the TWES amongst a group of patients with tooth wear.

This is the first longitudinal study to assess psychological burden due to secondary traumatisation and relevant resilience factors in psychosocial emergency care personnel. We asked 100 German psychosocial emergency care workers to assess their feeling of preparedness and resilience factors prior training. After training, when participants had worked emergency responses, we assessed secondary traumatisation. Overall, the level of secondary traumatisation was sub-clinical (M = 37.50, SD = 5.35) after training and reported resilience factor levels were high. Three regression analyses were conducted to examine the moderation effect of preparedness on specific expertise (R2 = 0.479, p less then 0.001), performance competence (R2 = 0.419, p = 0.002) and inner attitude (R2 = 0.336, p = 0.002) in regard to the relationship between resilience factors and secondary traumatisation. Feeling prepared and competent for emergency responses were protective factors. Practical implications include the following volunteers should not take part in emergency responses if they are under excessive stress; the volunteers' resilience factors should be taken into account; emergency response training should promote the feeling of preparedness in specific expertise and performance competence.

Thirty consecutive daily datasets of an ACR-MRI phantom were acquired on two 1.5T MRI simulators using a 3D T1W TSE sequence. Images were blindly segmented by two observers. Post-acquisition processing was minimized but an intensity discretization (fixed bin size of 25). One hundred and one radiomics features (shape n=12; first order n=16; texture n=73) were extracted. Longitudinal repeatability of each feature was evaluated by Pearson correlation and coefficient of variance (CV
). Interobserver feature value agreement was also quantified using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman analysis. A most repeatable radiomics feature set on both scanners was determined by feature coefficient of variance (CV
<5%), ICC (>0.75), and the ratio of the interobsexhibited heterogeneous longitudinal repeatability, while the shape features were the most repeatable, in this phantom study with a 3D T1W TSE acquisition. The most repeatable radiomics feature set derived in this study should be helpful for the selection of reliable radiomics features in the future clinical use.

Geldanamycin, as well as two GA derivatives tested in the clinic, 17-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin (17-AAG) and 17-dimethylaminoethylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin (17-DMAG), decreased ROR1 protein expression. We found that ROR1 physically interacted with HSP90α, but not with other HSP90 paralogs, HSP90β or GRP94. Geldanamycin in turn destabilized and degraded ROR1 protein in a dose- and time-dependent manner through the ubiquitin/proteasome pathway, resulting in a significant suppression of cell proliferation in lung adenocarcinoma cell lines, for which the kinase domain of ROR1, but not its kinase activity or N-glycosylation, was required. Our findings indicate that HSP90 is required to sustain expression of ROR1 crucial for lung adenosarcoma survival, suggesting that inhibition of HSP90 could be a promising therapeutic strategy in ROR1-positive lung adenocarcinoma.

These heterojunctions were studied for the carrier transportation mechanism and near-infrared (NIR) light detection at various temperatures ranging from 300 K down to 150 K. At 300 K, the fabricated heterojunctions displayed a typical rectifying action together with substantial leakage current. At 150 K, the leakage current was clearly reduced by greater than four orders of magnitude. The value of the ideality factor (n) at 300 K was computed to be 1.87 and this was nearly constant under temperatures ranging from 300 down to 260 K. This implies that a recombination process was predominant. At temperatures lower than 250 K, the value of n was found to be more than 2. These results demonstrated that the carrier transportation mechanism was governed by a tunnelling process. A weak response for the irradiation of NIR light was observed at 300 K. At 150 K, the ratio of the photocurrent to the dark current evidently increased by more than two orders of magnitude. The detectivity at 150 K was 4.84×1010 cm Hz1/2 W-1 at zero bias voltage, which was clearly improved as compared to that at 300 K.In this research, β-FeSi₂ thin films were manufactured onto Si(111) wafer substrates through the usage of radio-frequency magnetron sputtering (RFMS) method at 2.66 × 10-1 Pa of sputtering pressure. The substrate temperatures were varied at 500 °C, 560 °C, and 600 °C. The Raman lines of the β-FeSi₂ fabricated at 500 °C revealed the peaks at the positions of ~174 cm-1, ~189 cm-1, ~199 cm-1, ~243 cm-1, ~278 cm-1, and ~334 cm-1. For the higher substrate temperatures of 560 °C and 600 °C, the Raman peaks of ~189 cm-1, ~243 cm-1, and ~278 cm-1 were shifted toward higher Raman positions. The surface view of the films was observed with several grains over the β-FeSi₂ film surface at all substrate temperatures. The average grain size of the films for the samples deposited at 500 °C and 560 °C was in the range of 28 to 30 nm, where the size was enlarged to 36 nm at 600 °C of substrate temperature. The root mean square roughness were 10.19 nm, 10.84 nm, and 13.67 nm for the β-FeSi₂ film surface prepared at the substrate temperatures of 500 °C, 560 °C, and 600 °C, respectively. The contact angle (CA) values were 99.25°, 99.80°, and 102.00° for the created samples at 500 °C, 560 °C, and 600 °C, respectively. As the acquired CA values, all β-FeSi₂ samples exhibited a hydrophobic property with CA in the range of 90° to 150°. Consequently, the produced β-FeSi₂ film surface employing the RFMS method indicated a potential to be employed in a hydrophobic coating application.We designed novel thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) host molecules for blue electrophosphorescence by combining the electron acceptor benzimidazole (BI) unit and the electron donor acridine derivatives into a single molecular unit based on density functional theory (DFT). We obtained the energies of the first singlet (S1) and the first triplet (T1) excited states of the TADF materials by performing DFT and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) calculations to the ground state using dependence on charge transfer amounts for the optimal Hartree-Fock percentage in the exchange-correlation of TD-DFT. Using DFT and TD-DFT calculations, the large separation between the HOMO and LUMO caused a small difference in energy (ΔEST) between the S1 and T1 states. In the present work, ternary Single-phase LaxPr1-xB6 submicron powders are successfully synthesized using a solid-state reaction, in which lanthanum chloride (LaCl₃) and praseodymium chloride (PrCl₃) are used as rare-earth source and NaBH₄ as the boron source under continuous vacuum conditions. The reaction temperature is 1150 °C and the holding time is 2 h. The Pr doping effects on crystal structure, grain morphology, and optical absorption properties were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and ultraviolet-vis absorptionf LaB6 in the visible region after doping Pr is related to the decrease of kinetic energy of electrons near the Fermi plane. This implies that a recombination process was predominant. At temperatures lower than 250 K, the value of n was found to be more than 2. These results demonstrated that the carrier transportation mechanism was governed by a tunnelling process. A weak response for the irradiation of NIR light was observed at 300 K. The substrate temperatures were varied at 500 °C, 560 °C, and 600 °C. The Raman lines of the β-FeSi₂ fabricated at 500 °C revealed the peaks at the positions of ~174 cm-1, ~189 cm-1, ~199 cm-1, ~243 cm-1, ~278 cm-1, and ~334 cm-1. For the higher substrate temperatures of 560 °C and 600 °C, the Raman peaks of ~189 cm-1, ~243 cm-1, and ~278 cm-1 were shifted toward higher Raman positions. The surface view of the films was observed with several grains over the β-FeSi₂ film surface at all substrate temperatures. The average grain size of the films for the samples deposited at 500 °C and 560 °C was in the range of 28 to 30 nm, where the size was enlarged to 36 nm at 600 °C of substrate temperature. The root mean square roughness were 10.19 nm, 10.84 nm, and 13.67 nm for the β-FeSi₂ film surface prepared at the substrate temperatures of 500 °C, 560 °C, and 600 °C, respectively. The contact angle (CA) values were 99.25°, 99.80°, and 102.00° for the created samples at 500 °C, 560 °C, and 600 °C, respectively. As the acquired CA values, all β-FeSi₂ samples exhibited a hydrophobic property with CA in the range of 90° to 150°. We obtained the energies of the first singlet (S1) and the first triplet (T1) excited states of the TADF materials by performing DFT and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) calculations to the ground state using dependence on charge transfer amounts for the optimal Hartree-Fock percentage in the exchange-correlation of TD-DFT. Using DFT and TD-DFT calculations, the large separation between the HOMO and LUMO caused a small difference in energy (ΔEST) between the S1 and T1 states. The reaction temperature is 1150 °C and the holding time is 2 h. This study aims to elicit the relative importance of treatment attributes that influence residents' choice, assuming they are suffering severe non-communicable diseases (NCDs), to explore how they make trade-offs between these attributes and to estimate the monetary value placed on different attributes and attribute levels.
A discrete choice experiment (DCE) was conducted with adults over 18 years old in China. Preferences were evaluated based on four treatment attributes care provider, mode of service, distance to practice and cost. A mixed logit model was used to analyze the relative importance of the four attributes and to calculate the willingness to pay (WTP) for a changed attribute level.
A total of 93.47% (2019 of 2160) respondents completed valid questionnaires. The WTP results suggested that participants would be willing to pay CNY 822.51 (USD 124.86), CNY 470.54 (USD 71.41) and CNY 68.20 (USD 10.35) for services provided by experts, with integrated traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine (WM) and with a service distance <=30 min, respectively.
The results suggested that mode of service, care provider, distance to practice and cost should be considered in priority-setting decisions. The government should strengthen the curative service capability in primary health facilities and give full play to the role of TCM in the prevention and treatment of severe chronic diseases.

Additionally, misfolded forms of tau can propagate from cell to cell and throughout the brain. This process is thought to lead to the templated misfolding of the native forms of tau, and thereby, to the formation of newer toxic aggregates, thereby propagating the disease. Therefore, modulation of the processes that lead to tau aggregation and spreading is of utmost importance in the fight against tauopathies. In recent years, several molecules have been developed for the modulation of tau aggregation and spreading. In this review, we discuss the processes of tau aggregation and spreading and highlight selected chemicals developed for the modulation of these processes, their usefulness, and putative mechanisms of action. Ultimately, a stronger understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved, and the properties of the substances developed to modulate them, will lead to the development of safer and better strategies for the treatment of tauopathies.Dietary fibers can affect appetite and gut metabolism, but the effect of the novel potato fibers FiberBind and rhamnogalacturonan I (RG-I) is unknown. We, therefore, aimed to investigate the effect of daily intake of FiberBind and RG-I on appetite sensations and fecal fat excretion. In a single-blinded, randomized, three-way crossover trial, wheat buns with FiberBind, RG-I, or low fiber (control) were consumed by 18 healthy men during a 21-day period. Appetite sensation and blood samples during a 3 h meal test, fecal fat content, and ad libitum energy intake were assessed after each period. Compared to RG-I and control, FiberBind caused a higher composite satiety score (6% ± 2% and 5% ± 2%), lower prospective food consumption (5% ± 2% and 6% ± 2%), and lower desire to eat (7% ± 3% and 6% ± 3%) (all p less then 0.05). FiberBind also caused higher satiety (6% ± 2%) and fullness (9% ± 3%) compared to RG-I (all p less then 0.01). No effects on fecal fat excretion or energy intake were found. The RG-I fiber caused higher postprandial glucose concentration compared to FiberBind (p less then 0.05) and higher insulin concentration at 180 min compared to control (p less then 0.05). Compared to the control, RG-I and FiberBind lowered peak insulin concentration (both p less then 0.05) and delayed time to peak for glucose (both p less then 0.05). Italy has been one of the most affected countries in the world and the increasing number of cases and deaths has created strong emotional reactions in people. This study has aimed at evaluating public attention to this emerging disease through the use of Google Trends. Public attention, measured as the volume of internet search activity, was correlated with Health Communication Strategies and official COVID-19 data. At the moment of the study analysis, Italy was by far the first country in terms of search volume for "coronavirus" and the highest peak of searches was reached on February 23, 2020. We have found that there was a correlation between public attention to coronavirus disease and communications from Public Health policies we observed spikes in search volumes on the days of Presidential Decree publications. Furthermore, this attention was also correlated with Case Fatality Rate (CFR). Even if CFR data are continuously updated and can be affected by patient histories, the correlation found suggests that the increase in mortality has generated growing interest in the disease and its risk perception. This study shows that tracking searches through Google Trends as a public focus indicator is a useful tool for decision-makers in guiding communication strategies and should as well stimulate a more transparent media and policy making reporting.
Malignancy in giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is a rare tumor with relevant literature being sparse. In primary malignant GCTB, distinct areas of benign GCTB are juxtaposed with high-grade sarcoma, while in secondary malignant GCTB sarcoma occurs at the site of previously managed GCTB. This study assesses the distinguishing characteristics of patients with this condition, the time interval for development of secondary malignant GCTB, the outcome of treatment, and explores factors associated with oncologic outcomes.
This is a retrospective case series of patients from a prospectively collected institutional musculoskeletal oncology database. From January 1998 to December 2016, 1365 patients were managed for extremity GCTBs. 32 (2.3%) patients had malignant GCTB, including 12 with primary malignant GCTB and 20 with secondary malignant GCTB. Malignant GCTB carries a poor prognosis. Accurate diagnosis is critical to avoid inadequate surgical margins when treating primary malignant GCTB. Research from past pandemics links excessive anxiety about illness-related threats with symptoms of health anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In the present study, we investigated whether intolerance of uncertainty (IU), a psychological vulnerability factor involved in both OCD and health anxiety, accounts for a portion of the relationship between these symptoms and fear of COVID-19 during the early stages of the outbreak in the Unites States. We administered measures of concern about the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Threat Scale; CTS), health anxiety, and OCD symptoms to a large sample of community adults in the United States (n = 738) recruited through Amazon MTurk. Results revealed that concern about COVID-19 was moderately and positively correlated with both OCD and health anxiety symptoms, as well as IU. Moreover, regression analyses found that IU partially accounted for the connections between concern about the spread of COVID-19 and OCD and health anxiety symptoms. These results highlight IU as a potential mechanism connecting OCD and health anxiety to anxiety about pandemic threats. Clinical implications, limitations, and future directions for research are discussed.Traffic crashes remain a leading cause of death in the United States; holidays are known to have increased travel and traffic fatalities. Our purpose was to determine which days during Thanksgiving had the highest crash fatality risk compared to non-holiday periods. Using time series and binomial approximations, we analyzed Fatality Analysis Reporting System data (1980-2018) with a Monday-Sunday holiday and matching comparisons the weeks before and after. Fatalities included 31,263 during the holiday, 30,361 the previous week, and 29,399 the following week. Deadliest days during the holiday were Saturday (16.7% of fatalities) and Wednesday (16.0%), but odds of a traffic fatality (vs. non-holiday) were highest Wednesday [odds ratio (OR) 1.35, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.29-1.40], Thanksgiving (OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.13-1.23), and Tuesday (OR 1.12, 95% CI 1.06-1.17). The 35 excess holiday fatalities per year may have limited practical significance considering increased holiday travel.Intramurals are an important part of the physical activity offerings in secondary schools; however, it is not well understood how co-ed and gender-specific intramural programs impact intramural participation among male and female students. Therefore, the objective of this research was to examine if the number of co-ed, male-only, and female-only intramurals offered at a school was associated with student participation in intramurals. A large sample of Canadian secondary school students (N = 59,370) completed the COMPASS survey in 2017-2018. School staff reported the number of co-ed, male-only, and female-only intramurals offered at each school. Students reported whether they participated in school intramurals. Hierarchical models were used to assess associations. Intramural participation was marginally higher among male students (36%) than female students (32%; p less then 0.0001). Female students attending schools that offered female-only intramurals were 17% (OR 1.17 [95% CI 1.05-1.30]) more likely to participate.

Research from past pandemics links excessive anxiety about illness-related threats with symptoms of health anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In the present study, we investigated whether intolerance of uncertainty (IU), a psychological vulnerability factor involved in both OCD and health anxiety, accounts for a portion of the relationship between these symptoms and fear of COVID-19 during the early stages of the outbreak in the Unites States. We administered measures of concern about the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Threat Scale; CTS), health anxiety, and OCD symptoms to a large sample of community adults in the United States (n = 738) recruited through Amazon MTurk. Results revealed that concern about COVID-19 was moderately and positively correlated with both OCD and health anxiety symptoms, as well as IU. Moreover, regression analyses found that IU partially accounted for the connections between concern about the spread of COVID-19 and OCD and health anxiety symptoms. These results highlight IU as a potential mechanism connecting OCD and health anxiety to anxiety about pandemic threats. Clinical implications, limitations, and future directions for research are discussed.Traffic crashes remain a leading cause of death in the United States; holidays are known to have increased travel and traffic fatalities. Our purpose was to determine which days during Thanksgiving had the highest crash fatality risk compared to non-holiday periods. Using time series and binomial approximations, we analyzed Fatality Analysis Reporting System data (1980-2018) with a Monday-Sunday holiday and matching comparisons the weeks before and after. Fatalities included 31,263 during the holiday, 30,361 the previous week, and 29,399 the following week. Deadliest days during the holiday were Saturday (16.7% of fatalities) and Wednesday (16.0%), but odds of a traffic fatality (vs. non-holiday) were highest Wednesday [odds ratio (OR) 1.35, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.29-1.40], Thanksgiving (OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.13-1.23), and Tuesday (OR 1.12, 95% CI 1.06-1.17). The 35 excess holiday fatalities per year may have limited practical significance considering increased holiday travel.Intramurals are an important part of the physical activity offerings in secondary schools; however, it is not well understood how co-ed and gender-specific intramural programs impact intramural participation among male and female students. Therefore, the objective of this research was to examine if the number of co-ed, male-only, and female-only intramurals offered at a school was associated with student participation in intramurals. A large sample of Canadian secondary school students (N = 59,370) completed the COMPASS survey in 2017-2018. School staff reported the number of co-ed, male-only, and female-only intramurals offered at each school. Students reported whether they participated in school intramurals. Hierarchical models were used to assess associations. Intramural participation was marginally higher among male students (36%) than female students (32%; p less then 0.0001).
