To better characterize brain-based mechanisms of polygenic liability for psychopathology and psychological traits, we extended our previous report (Liu et al. Psychophysiological endophenotypes to characterize mechanisms of known schizophrenia genetic loci. Psychological Medicine, 2017), focused solely on schizophrenia, to test the association between multivariate psychophysiological candidate endophenotypes (including novel measures of θ/δ oscillatory activity) and a range of polygenic scores (PGSs), namely alcohol/cannabis/nicotine use, an updated schizophrenia PGS (containing 52 more genome-wide significant loci than the PGS used in our previous report) and educational attainment.
A large community-based twin/family sample (N = 4893) was genome-wide genotyped and imputed. PGSs were constructed for alcohol use, regular smoking initiation, lifetime cannabis use, schizophrenia, and educational attainment. Eleven endophenotypes were assessed visual oddball task event-related electroencephalogram (EEG) meas (P3/δ) and cognitive/attentional control (θ/antisaccade error) relate to alcohol/nicotine, schizophrenia, and educational attainment PGSs and represent promising targets for future research.

Medical charts of 122 oocyte recipients undergoing 152 oocyte recipient ICSI cycles, from 2017 to 2018, in a private university-affiliated in vitro fertilization (IVF) centre, were reviewed in this historical cohort study. Cycles were divided into four groups according to the gamete status the FO/FS Group, recipients in which fresh oocytes were injected with fresh sperm (n = 19); the FO/CrS Group, recipients in which fresh oocytes were injected with cryopreserved sperm (n = 14); the CrO/FS Group, recipients in which cryopreserved oocytes were injected with fresh sperm (n = 85); and the CrO/CrS Group, recipients in which cryopreserved oocytes were injected with cryopreserved sperm (n = 34). Generalized mixed models fit by restricted maximum likelihood, followed by Bonferroni post hoc test for the comparison of means amongst groups were used to investigate the effect of cryopreservation on recipient ICSI outcomes. The results were expressed as mean differences with 95% confidence intervals and P-values. The main outcome measure was the implantation rate. Normal day 3 cleavage speed, blastocyst development and implantation rates were significantly lower in the CrO/CrS Group compared with the FO/FS Group. In conclusion, embryo developmental competence and implantation potential were reduced when vitrified oocytes were injected with frozen sperm in an egg-sharing donation programme.
Most antidepressants have a delayed onset of action and must be administered for several weeks to generate therapeutic effects. Trazodone is a serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder. The once-a-day (OAD) formulation of trazodone has an improved tolerability profile compared to its conventional formulations. In this study, we systematically reviewed the evidence available for the antidepressant efficacy and early improvement in depressive symptoms with trazodone OAD treatment.
We conducted a PubMed database search for randomized controlled trials published from 2005 to 2020.
Two studies, a placebo-controlled and an active-comparator (venlafaxine extended-release or XR) study were found. Both the studies demonstrated that trazodone exhibits antidepressant activity at a starting dose of 150mg/day and results in statistically significant greater reduction in Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D17) scores within 1week of starting treatment compared to placebo or venlafaxine XR (P<.05). Trazodone also resulted in significant early improvement in the HAM-D17 sleep disturbance factor compared to placebo or venlafaxine XR at day 7 (P<.05). This clinical effect is supported by in vitro proprietary data for the affinity of trazodone for different target receptors. Activity at these receptors may underlie trazodone's fast antidepressant action.
Trazodone, if properly dosed, can be an effective antidepressant with early onset of action and good tolerability. Future studies designed to specifically evaluate onset and timing of improvement of depressive symptoms remain necessary to confirm and extend these results.

In this study we validated a new measure of polysemy knowledge for children with English as an additional language (EAL) and a first language (EL1) and examined the relationship between polysemy knowledge and age, language status, and reading comprehension. Participants were 112 British children aged 5 to 6 (n = 61) or 8 to 9 years (n = 51), 37% of whom had EAL (n = 41). Participants completed the new measure of knowledge of polysemes, along with other measures of language, literacy and cognitive ability. The new measure was reliable and valid with EAL and EL1 children. Age and language status predicted children's polyseme knowledge. Polyseme knowledge uniquely contributed to reading comprehension after controlling for age, language status, non-verbal intelligence, time reading in English, and breadth of vocabulary. This research underscores the importance of polysemy for children's linguistic development.
Neurobehavioral decision profiles have often been neglected in chronic diseases despite their direct impact on major public health issues such as treatment adherence. This remains a major concern in diabetes, despite intensive efforts and public awareness initiatives regarding its complications. Currently available drug-free treatments include Enterosgel®, an intestinal adsorbent approved for use in IBS-D and acute diarrhoea and available over-the-counter in the UK and 30 countries worldwide. The aim of this randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-centre study is to test the efficacy and safety of Enterosgel® compared to placebo in symptomatic treatment in IBS-D. METHODS/DESIGN We will recruit 430 participants with IBS-D from approximately 30 primary and secondary care sites in England. Participants meeting the required abdominal pain and stool consistency criteria over a 2-week screening period will be randomly allocated to receive blinded treatment (Enterosgentrolled trial investigating Enterosgel® in IBS-D. A study design with blinded phase followed by an open-label phase was chosen to encourage participation and study completion. Demonstrating that Enterosgel® is effective and safe in IBS-D could encourage adoption by patients and healthcare professionals and foster future clinical trials assessing its use in related conditions. However, studies on exclusive breastfeeding practice are limited in Somaliland. Therefore, this study was aimed to assess exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life and its associated factors among children 6-24 months of age in Burao district, Somaliland. METHODS A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from 26 August to 10 October 2018, in Burao district among randomly, selected 464 mothers with children 6-24 months of age. Data were collected through face-to-face interview using pretested structured questionnaire. RESULTS The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding was 20.47% (95% CI 18.84, 23.63%). Exclusive breastfeeding practice was associated with having female child (AOR 0.48; 95% CI 0.29, 0.80)), lack of formal education (AOR 0.32; 95% CI 0.19, 0.53), household monthly income 100$-200$ (AOR 0.35;95% CI 0.18, 0.68), lack of husband's support (AOR 0.32; 95% CI 0.19, 0.53), and mothers who were not counselled on breastfeeding during antenatal care (AOR = 0.33; 95% CI 0.16, 0.66). CONCLUSIONS Exclusive breastfeeding practice was very low as compared to recommendations of infant and young child practice (IYCF) which recommends children to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months of life. Exclusive breastfeeding practice was associated with a mother's lack of formal education, monthly income less than 100$, being a female child, lack of advice on exclusive breastfeeding during antenatal care and lack of husband support. The promotion of education for women, husband's engagement, encouraging antenatal care follow-up and counseling of exclusive breastfeeding during antenatal care was recommended to improve exclusive breastfeeding practice.BACKGROUND Preterm birth accounts for 75% of perinatal deaths and more than 50% of long-term neurological disabilities. [...].Quantification of gene expression is crucial to connect genome sequences with phenotypic and physiological data. RNA-Sequencing (RNA-Seq) has taken a prominent role in the study of transcriptomic reactions of plants to various environmental and genetic perturbations. However, comparative tests of different tools for RNA-Seq read mapping and quantification have been mainly performed on data from animals or humans, which necessarily neglect, for example, the large genetic variability among natural accessions within plant species. Here, we compared seven computational tools for their ability to map and quantify Illumina single-end reads from the Arabidopsis thaliana accessions Columbia-0 (Col-0) and N14. Between 92.4% and 99.5% of all reads were mapped to the reference genome or transcriptome and the raw count distributions obtained from the different mappers were highly correlated. Using the software DESeq2 to determine differential gene expression (DGE) between plants exposed to 20 °C or 4 °C from these read counts showed a large pairwise overlap between the mappers. Interestingly, when the commercial CLC software was used with its own DGE module instead of DESeq2, strongly diverging results were obtained. All tested mappers provided highly similar results for mapping Illumina reads of two polymorphic Arabidopsis accessions to the reference genome or transcriptome and for the determination of DGE when the same software was used for processing.Sleep quality has been directly linked to cognitive function, quality of life, and a variety of serious diseases across many clinical domains. Here, we present an update of the genetic findings in 105 Italian NPC patients belonging to 83 unrelated families (77 NPC1 and 6 NPC2). We also found that the cumulative reclamation areas totaled 816.6 km2 and 431.9 km2 in the Yangtze estuary zone and along the Jiangsu coast, respectively, between 1974 and 2018.

However, comparative tests of different tools for RNA-Seq read mapping and quantification have been mainly performed on data from animals or humans, which necessarily neglect, for example, the large genetic variability among natural accessions within plant species. Here, we compared seven computational tools for their ability to map and quantify Illumina single-end reads from the Arabidopsis thaliana accessions Columbia-0 (Col-0) and N14. Between 92.4% and 99.5% of all reads were mapped to the reference genome or transcriptome and the raw count distributions obtained from the different mappers were highly correlated. Using the software DESeq2 to determine differential gene expression (DGE) between plants exposed to 20 °C or 4 °C from these read counts showed a large pairwise overlap between the mappers. Interestingly, when the commercial CLC software was used with its own DGE module instead of DESeq2, strongly diverging results were obtained. Malignant rhabdoid tumor of the kidney (RTK) is a rare and highly aggressive pediatric malignancy. Immune system dysfunction is significantly correlated with tumor initiation and progression.
We integrated and analyzed the expression profiles of immune-related genes (IRGs) in 65 RTK patients based on the Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Treatments (TARGET) database. Prognostic related IRGs in RTK patients were analyzed using univariate and multivariate analysis, based on which a prognostic model with IRGs was constructed. Correlation analysis between the risk score of our model and tumor-infiltrating cell were also investigated.

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of water temperature during aqua-cycling session on EE, rate of perceived exertion, energy intake, appetite sensations, and food reward in healthy premenopausal women.
Participants completed three experimental sessions, in the postprandial condition, in a randomized order a land control session (CON), an aqua-cycling session in 18 °C (EXO18), and an aqua-cycling session in 27 °C (EXO27). Philadelphia chromosome-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are a group of hematologic malignancies with known vascular complications. The role race and ethnicity play in these complications is less defined. We aimed to further evaluate the role of race in patients without a history of previous thrombotic or hemorrhagic events.
In this retrospective study, 300 adult patients with MPN were included; 270 (90.0%) were White and 30 (10.0%) were non-White. The non-White group primarily consisted of African American or Black (26 patients), followed by others. Median age at diagnosis was 58 years for White patients and 61.5 years for non-White patients. The interaction between outcomes and vascular events with race was evaluated using multivariate logistical regression models.
The incidence of thrombotic events was inversely correlated with age at diagnosis, with younger patients demonstrating a higher rate of thrombotic events over time (p < .001). The incidence of thrombotic or hemorrhagic events did not differ between White and non-White patients. A statistically significant difference in median survival was observed between White and non-White patients 29 years (95% confidence interval [CI] 21.8-not reached) versus 13 years (95% CI 5.7-22.7), respectively (p = .016).
This study did not find a significant difference in the rate of thrombotic or hemorrhagic events between White and non-White patients with MPN but suggested that non-White patients had significantly shorter median survival than White patients. Thrombocytopenia is a frequently encountered laboratory abnormality and a common reason for hematology referrals. Workup for thrombocytopenia is not standardized and frequently does not follow an evidence-based algorithm. We conducted a systematic analysis to evaluate the laboratory testing and outcomes of patients evaluated for thrombocytopenia at hematology clinics in a tertiary referral center between 2013 and 2016.
We performed a comprehensive chart review for patients evaluated for thrombocytopenia during the study period. Patients were followed for 1year from the initial hematology evaluation and assessed for the development of a hematologic malignancy, rheumatologic, or infectious diseases among other clinical outcomes.

The gathered data showed that the leachates of CBs in the aquatic environment could extremely be toxic for various organisms and increasing the exposure time, increases the mortality rate. In addition, smoked filtered CBs with tobacco remnants have higher mortality rate compared to unsmoked filtered butts (USFs) for Hymenochirus curtipes, Clarias gariepinus, tidepool snails, Atherinops affinis and Pimephales promelas. The fate of CBs in the aquatic environments is affected by various factors, and prior to sinking they are floated for a long time (long distance). Hence, CBs and their associated toxic chemicals might be ingested by diverse aquatic organisms. However, further studies are necessary to understand the exact toxicity of CBs on different freshwater and marine organisms and also their fate in the aquatic media. The results of this review showed the essentiality of regulations to prevent the release of chemical and toxic compounds into the aquatic environments.

Philadelphia chromosome-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are a group of hematologic malignancies with known vascular complications. The role race and ethnicity play in these complications is less defined. We aimed to further evaluate the role of race in patients without a history of previous thrombotic or hemorrhagic events. In this retrospective study, 300 adult patients with MPN were included; 270 (90.0%) were White and 30 (10.0%) were non-White. The non-White group primarily consisted of African American or Black (26 patients), followed by others. Median age at diagnosis was 58 years for White patients and 61.5 years for non-White patients. The interaction between outcomes and vascular events with race was evaluated using multivariate logistical regression models. The incidence of thrombotic events was inversely correlated with age at diagnosis, with younger patients demonstrating a higher rate of thrombotic events over time (p < .001). The incidence of thrombotic or hemorrhagic events did not differ between White and non-White patients. A statistically significant difference in median survival was observed between White and non-White patients 29 years (95% confidence interval [CI] 21.8-not reached) versus 13 years (95% CI 5.7-22.7), respectively (p = .016). This study did not find a significant difference in the rate of thrombotic or hemorrhagic events between White and non-White patients with MPN but suggested that non-White patients had significantly shorter median survival than White patients. Such observations may inform future studies to further characterize racial disparities in outcomes. Thrombocytopenia is a frequently encountered laboratory abnormality and a common reason for hematology referrals. Workup for thrombocytopenia is not standardized and frequently does not follow an evidence-based algorithm. We conducted a systematic analysis to evaluate the laboratory testing and outcomes of patients evaluated for thrombocytopenia at hematology clinics in a tertiary referral center between 2013 and 2016. We performed a comprehensive chart review for patients evaluated for thrombocytopenia during the study period. Patients were followed for 1year from the initial hematology evaluation and assessed for the development of a hematologic malignancy, rheumatologic, or infectious diseases among other clinical outcomes. Herein, we review experimental studies that evaluated the potential endocrine-mediated health impacts of exposure to a mixture of 23 UOG chemicals commonly found in wastewater. The purpose of this manuscript is to synthesize and summarize a body of work using the same UOG-mix but with different model systems and physiological endpoints in multiple experiments. The studies reviewed were conducted in laboratory animals (**** or tadpoles) and human tissue culture cells. A key feature of the in vivo studies was the use of four environmentally relevant doses spanning three orders of magnitude ranging from concentrations found in surface and ground water in UOG dense areas to concentrations found in UOG wastewater. This UOG-mix exhibited potent antagonist activity for the estrogen, androgen, glucocorticoid, progesterone, and thyroid receptors in human tissue culture cells. Subsequently, pregnant **** were administered the UOG-mix in drinking water and offspring were examined in adulthood or to tadpoles. Developmental exposure profoundly impacted pituitary hormone concentrations, reduced sperm counts, altered folliculogenesis, and increased mammary gland ductal density and preneoplastic lesions in ****. Environmental and health concerns prompted the development of chemical safety testing and, in the context of endocrine disruption, identification of thyroid hormone axis disrupting chemicals (THADCs) remains particularly challenging. As various molecules are known to interfere with different levels of TH signalling, screening tests for THADCs may not rely solely on in vitro ligand/receptor binding to TH receptors. Therefore, alternatives to mammalian in vivo assays featuring TH-related endpoints that are more sensitive than circulatory THs and more rapid than thyroid histopathology are needed to fulfil the ambition of higher throughput screening of the myriad of environmental chemicals. After a detailed introduction of the context, we have listed current assays and parameters to assess thyroid disruption following a literature search of recent publications referring to non-mammalian models. V.BACKGROUND Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a hypersensitivity reaction to Aspergillus fumigatus contributing to cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the combination of oral prednisone for 18 days together with itraconazole therapy for at least 12 months in CF-related ABPA with regard to long-term pulmonary function and side effects. METHODS Sixty-five patients with CF treated for ABPA and 127 patients with CF without ABPA serving as matched controls were retrospectively analyzed for a median period of 4.8 years. Serial lung functions were analyzed alongside clinical, microbiological, and laboratory data including itraconazole therapeutic drug monitoring. RESULTS The used ABPA treatment regimen restored FEV1 values to pre-ABPA levels within 3 months (P less then .0001). Long-term FEV1 courses of patients showed no difference when compared with those of ABPA-free controls. Glucocorticoid treatment was not associated with increased CF-related diabetes incidence, growth restriction, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa acquisition. Patients who experienced ABPA relapses displayed lower itraconazole trough levels during the first 3 months of treatment (P less then .05). A decreased risk of ABPA recurrence was further associated with P aeruginosa colonization. CONCLUSIONS The proposed treatment scheme for CF-related ABPA is effective in preserving lung function capacity over years in affected individuals without the known glucocorticoid-associated side effects. Itraconazole therapeutic drug monitoring seems useful to prevent disease flares, for which P aeruginosa-negative patients with CF might be particularly susceptible.

This study aimed at evaluating the early outcomes of children managed for PUV. Materials and Methods This was a prospective study of all children who were treated for PUV between 2012 and 2016 at a single referral institution. Information reviewed included demographic and clinical data, imaging findings, pre- and post-operative serum electrolytes, and postoperative renal outcomes. Results Twenty-nine male children were managed for PUV at a median age of 6 months including 7 (24.1%) neonates. Two (6.9%) patients had antenatal diagnosis. Micturating cystourethrogram confirmed PUV in all patients. Fourteen (48.3%) patients had impaired renal function (IRF) at presentation and 8 (57%) had improved renal function (RF) after initial catheter drainage. The mean creatinine at presentation was 1.86 ± 1.69 mg/dl and that risk of end-stage renal disease. Materials and Methods The major sources of information reviewed in this study were the autopsy registers and autopsy reports of the police clinic, Benin City, Edo State, over 10 years. Results A total of 331 female medicolegal autopsies were performed, accounting for 21.8% of all cases. The mean age of cases was 40.11 ± 20.25. Age group of 30-39 years accounted for 22.1% (n = 73) of cases, closely followed by the age group of 20-29 years, which accounted for 20.5% (n = 68) of cases. Accidental deaths accounted for 36.9% (n = 122) of cases. RTA was the most common cause of accidental deaths (n = 105; 86%). The most common pattern of RTA was a vehicle knocking down a pedestrian as seen in 45 cases (42.9%). The most common age group involved in RTA was 20-29 years (n = 23; 22%). For homicides, shotguns were mainly used (n = 31; 31.6%), distantly followed by those caused by the use of sharp objects (n = 17; 17.3%) and most cases belonged to the age groups of 40-49 years and 30-39 years (21.5% and 19.5%, respectively). In 5 (71.4%) cases, hanging was the method of choice for suicide. A majority of suicide victims (n = 4; 57.1%) were aged between 30 and 39 years, with an average age of 36.3. Diseases of the cardiovascular system accounted for 41.8% (n = 41) of cases, whereas pregnancy-associated deaths (excluding criminal abortions) accounted for 29.6% (n = 29) of cases in the natural causes group. Preeclampsia/eclampsia (n = 9; 31%) followed by postpartum hemorrhage (n = 8; 27.6%) were the leading causes of maternal deaths. Conclusion There is a need to provide basic infrastructure, formulate policies, and implement them, to reduce female MLD, which a significant number of them are preventable. Aims The aim of this research was to assess the quality of education of the children with URE in Sokoto metropolis, Sokoto State, Nigeria. Methods A cross-sectional survey of schoolchildren in four randomly selected primary schools within Sokoto metropolis was carried out from July 2016 to October 2016 using the illiterate "E" chart and a pinhole. Relevant history and basic ocular examinations were done using a multistage sampling technique. Statistical Analysis Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (IBM SPSS) version 20. Results A total of 113 students were surveyed; 56 (49.6%) males and 57 (50.4%) females. The age range was between 5 and 15 years, and the mean age was 10.89 ± 2.27 years. The prevalence of URE was 9.7%, with more than half of the students within the age group of 10-12 years (P = 0.018) and more common in females (54.5%) than males (45.5%) (P = 0.775). More than 90% of the respondents had never had a prior eye examination. The average mean academic performance of the pupils with URE (49.54% ±10.49%) was statistically significantly lower than those without refractive error (71.08 ± 10.09), mean difference = 21.55 (95% confidence interval, 15.18-27.92) (t = 6.70, P = 0.000). Conclusions The negative implications of URE on the quality of education and other socioeconomic aspects of life underscore the need to increase efforts on its screening and increase other relevant interventional measures. Despite its usefulness, it may have complications such as intra-dialytic hypotension (IDH) and intra-dialytic hypertension (IDHTN), both of which may impact negatively on the patient. The aim of the study was to examine blood pressure (BP) changes during HD, to determine the frequency of IDH and IDHTN in patients undergoing HD, and to possibly identify associated factors. Materials and Methods The study design was a retrospective review of records of patients who had HD in the Rainbow Dialysis Center, a foremost private dialysis center in Bayelsa State. The records of all adults who had HD in the center from June 2014 to June 2018 were reviewed. Data retrieved include sociodemographics, type and cause of renal disease, and clinical and laboratory parameters such as BPs, packed cell volume, urea, and creatinine. Statistical Analysis Used Data were analyzed with SPSS version 20.0. Data were presented in tabular forms. Variables were expressed as mean with standard deviation, frequencies, and percentages. The means were compared using Student's t-test or analysis of variance where appropriate. Chi-square test was used to compare proportions. Statistical significance was set at P 0.05). Older age was positively and significantly associated with IDHTN (P = 0.047). Conclusions IDH and IDHTN were prevalent among the patients studied, with the latter being slightly more likely to occur with advancing age. The most common pattern of RTA was a vehicle knocking down a pedestrian as seen in 45 cases (42.9%). The most common age group involved in RTA was 20-29 years (n = 23; 22%). For homicides, shotguns were mainly used (n = 31; 31.6%), distantly followed by those caused by the use of sharp objects (n = 17; 17.3%) and most cases belonged to the age groups of 40-49 years and 30-39 years (21.5% and 19.5%, respectively). In 5 (71.4%) cases, hanging was the method of choice for suicide. A majority of suicide victims (n = 4; 57.1%) were aged between 30 and 39 years, with an average age of 36.3. Diseases of the cardiovascular system accounted for 41.8% (n = 41) of cases, whereas pregnancy-associated deaths (excluding criminal abortions) accounted for 29.6% (n = 29) of cases in the natural causes group. Preeclampsia/eclampsia (n = 9; 31%) followed by postpartum hemorrhage (n = 8; 27.6%) were the leading causes of maternal deaths. Conclusion There is a need to provide basic infrastructure, formulate policies, and implement them, to reduce female MLD, which a significant number of them are preventable. Methods A cross-sectional survey of schoolchildren in four randomly selected primary schools within Sokoto metropolis was carried out from July 2016 to October 2016 using the illiterate "E" chart and a pinhole. Relevant history and basic ocular examinations were done using a multistage sampling technique. Statistical Analysis Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (IBM SPSS) version 20. Results A total of 113 students were surveyed; 56 (49.6%) males and 57 (50.4%) females. The age range was between 5 and 15 years, and the mean age was 10.89 ± 2.27 years. The prevalence of URE was 9.7%, with more than half of the students within the age group of 10-12 years (P = 0.018) and more common in females (54.5%) than males (45.5%) (P = 0.775). More than 90% of the respondents had never had a prior eye examination. The average mean academic performance of the pupils with URE (49.54% ±10.49%) was statistically significantly lower than those without refractive error (71.08 ± 10.09), mean difference = 21.55 (95% confidence interval, 15.18-27.92) (t = 6.70, P = 0.000). Conclusions The negative implications of URE on the quality of education and other socioeconomic aspects of life underscore the need to increase efforts on its screening and increase other relevant interventional measures. Despite its usefulness, it may have complications such as intra-dialytic hypotension (IDH) and intra-dialytic hypertension (IDHTN), both of which may impact negatively on the patient. The aim of the study was to examine blood pressure (BP) changes during HD, to determine the frequency of IDH and IDHTN in patients undergoing HD, and to possibly identify associated factors. Materials and Methods The study design was a retrospective review of records of patients who had HD in the Rainbow Dialysis Center, a foremost private dialysis center in Bayelsa State. The records of all adults who had HD in the center from June 2014 to June 2018 were reviewed. Data retrieved include sociodemographics, type and cause of renal disease, and clinical and laboratory parameters such as BPs, packed cell volume, urea, and creatinine. Statistical Analysis Used Data were analyzed with SPSS version 20.0. Data were presented in tabular forms. Variables were expressed as mean with standard deviation, frequencies, and percentages. The means were compared using Student's t-test or analysis of variance where appropriate. Chi-square test was used to compare proportions. Statistical significance was set at P 0.05). Older age was positively and significantly associated with IDHTN (P = 0.047). Conclusions IDH and IDHTN were prevalent among the patients studied, with the latter being slightly more likely to occur with advancing age. The survival benefit claimed for TTFields is modest and is associated with mild reductions in health-related quality of life indices amid costs that presently preclude routine use. I review possible mechanisms by which alternating electrical fields may confer an anti-glioma effect. As scalp and skull are poor conductors of an electrical field, a case is made here for implantable electrodes, perhaps placed at the time of tumour debulking. Such a system may deliver an electrical field directly to the tumour resection cavity and with greater precision.
To minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission, an ambulant screening protocol for COVID-19 in patients before admission to the hospital was implemented, combining the SARS CoV-2 reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) on a nasopharyngeal swab, a chest computed tomography (CT) and assessment of clinical symptoms. The review is organised according to the different classes of AIE-active bacterial theranostics such as carrier-free nanoprodrugs, nanomachines for synergistic imaging-guided cancer treatment and bacterial kill, AIE polymers, bioconjugates and nanoparticle carriers. This study was performed to compare severe clinical outcome between initially asymptomatic and symptomatic infections and to identify risk factors associated with high patient mortality among initially asymptomatic patients.
In this retrospective, nationwide cohort study, we included 5621 patients who had been discharged from isolation or died from COVID-19 by 30 April 2020. The mortality rate and admission rate to intensive care unit (ICU) were compared between initially asymptomatic and symptomatic patients. We established a prediction model for patient mortality through risk factor analysis among initially asymptomatic patients.
The prevalence of initially asymptomatic patients upon admission was 25.8%. The mortality rates were not different between groups (3.3% vs. 4.5%,
= .17). However, initially symptomatic patients were more likely to receive ICU care compared to initially asymptomatic patients (4.1% vs. 1.0%,
< .0001). The age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index score (CCIS) was the mosomatic patients were more likely to admitted to the intensive care unit. Thermal processing (TP) and high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) are two important puree processing methods. In this study, the polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and β-glucosidase activities, chromatic values, peroxide radical scavenging capacities (PSCs), cellular antioxidant activities (CAAs), and anthocyanin profiles were evaluated in blueberry puree following TP and HHP treatments. Nine anthocyanins were identified and cyanidin glycosides were the most abundant compounds in the blueberry puree sample. Petunidin-3-O-arabinoside, malvidin-3-O-galactoside, and malvidin-3-O-glucoside concentrations increased at temperatures of 70-90 °C (TP) and a pressure of 300 MPa (HHP). The highest total anthocyanin concentration (503.5 μg/mL) and PSC (13.45 µg VCE/mL) were observed following the TP (90 °C) treatment. Furthermore, a positive correlation was observed between the anthocyanin content and PSC (R2 = 0.655, P less then 0.05). Finally, HHP treatment resulted in better puree color retention than TP treatment. The asparagine concentration ranged from 168.9 to 1050 µg/g and was significantly affected by cultivar, location, and their interaction but not fertilizer treatment. Location and cultivar were responsible for 80% and 14% of the variation, respectively. Some cultivars were not affected by location and maintained their low asparagine accumulation trait. Thus, breeding strategies should aim to identify cultivars that are low asparagine accumulating and are stable across different growing environments.Maltogenic amylase suppressed starch retrogradation in baked products. Here, a maltogenic amylase-producing strain of bacteria was screened and identified as Bacillus licheniformis R-53. Its coding gene was cloned and over-expressed in Bacillus subtilis WB600. Recombinant maltogenic amylase BLMA exhibited activity of 3235 U/mg under optimal conditions (60 °C and pH 6.5), with a good thermostability and pH stability. Mixolab experiment showed that a concentration of 60 ppm BLMA significantly improved the operating characteristics of dough. Baking test indicated the recombinant BLMA reduced bread hardness by 2.12 times compared with the control. Compared with maltogenic amylase from Novozymes (Novamyl 3D BG) and Angel Yeast Co. Ltd. (MAM100), BLMA has better effect on improving the bread volume, and almost the same effect on reducing hardness, improving elasticity and maintaining sensory as Novamyl 3D BG. The NIR method avoids the tedious extraction and TPC assay procedures, making it more convenient and cost-effective. Our result also demonstrated that NIR can accurately quantify phenolics even at low concentration (less than 0.2%) in the food matrix such as whole wheat flour.Fu brick tea is a typical post-fermentation tea known for its special flavor and health benefits. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and sensory evaluation with multivariate analysis were used to characterize the dynamic changes in metabolite profile and taste characteristics. Seventy-one compounds were identified as critical metabolites, catechins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, terpenoids and others. During the manufacturing process, these compounds exhibited sharp fluctuations in content, the intensities of astringency, bitterness, and sourness of the tea materials reduced greatly, but the mellow intensity increased sharply. Several catechins and phenolic acids were positively related to the 'astringent', 'bitter', and 'sour' tastes attributes. The fungal genera, Aspergillus, Candida, unclassified_o_Hypocreales, unclassified_o_Saccharomycetales and Wallemia and the bacterial genus, Klebsiella, were identified as core functional microorganisms linked to the metabolic variations during the process. Overall, these findings provided a more comprehensive understanding of the formation of the sensory characteristics in Fu brick tea during the manufacturing process.Two novel bisthiolane polysulfides (compounds 1 and 2), trivially named thiolanotrisulfide and thiolanotetrasulfide, were isolated from a reaction model of tearless onion (in which lachrymatory factor synthase is suppressed), and the presence of another novel bisthiolane polysulfide (3), trivially named thiolanopentasulfide, was confirmed. On the basis of spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analyses, it was found that these bisthiolane polysulfides were bis(5-hydroxy-3,4-dimethylthiolan-2-yl)-tri/tetra/pentasulfide with the general formulas of C12H22O2S5 (tri-), C12H22O2S6 (tetra-) and C12H22O2S7 (penta-), and they were confirmed to exist in authentic tearless onion juice. Thiolanotrisulfide (1) and thiolanotetrasulfide (2) inhibited cyclooxygenase-1 activity with IC50 values of 720 ± 78 and 464 ± 48 μM respectively, compared with 3282 ± 188 μM for aspirin.

During the manufacturing process, these compounds exhibited sharp fluctuations in content, the intensities of astringency, bitterness, and sourness of the tea materials reduced greatly, but the mellow intensity increased sharply. Several catechins and phenolic acids were positively related to the 'astringent', 'bitter', and 'sour' tastes attributes. The fungal genera, Aspergillus, Candida, unclassified_o_Hypocreales, unclassified_o_Saccharomycetales and Wallemia and the bacterial genus, Klebsiella, were identified as core functional microorganisms linked to the metabolic variations during the process. Overall, these findings provided a more comprehensive understanding of the formation of the sensory characteristics in Fu brick tea during the manufacturing process.Two novel bisthiolane polysulfides (compounds 1 and 2), trivially named thiolanotrisulfide and thiolanotetrasulfide, were isolated from a reaction model of tearless onion (in which lachrymatory factor synthase is suppressed), and the presence of another novel bisthiolane polysulfide (3), trivially named thiolanopentasulfide, was confirmed. On the basis of spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analyses, it was found that these bisthiolane polysulfides were bis(5-hydroxy-3,4-dimethylthiolan-2-yl)-tri/tetra/pentasulfide with the general formulas of C12H22O2S5 (tri-), C12H22O2S6 (tetra-) and C12H22O2S7 (penta-), and they were confirmed to exist in authentic tearless onion juice.
