    The prevalence of COVID-19 infection during pregnancy is not known. COVIPREG is a prospective French multicenter study to assess the seroprevalence at the time of delivery and the maternal and neonatal impact of COVID-19 infection during pregnancy. In order to study factors associated with poor outcomes after COVID-19 Infection during pregnancy and adapt the sample size of the study, a preliminary assessment of the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 IgG was planned after 500 inclusions in a one perinatal center of Paris area.

    A prospective observational study at Cochin hospital (Level III maternity). Patients admitted for delivery were offered to participate to the study. Each patient participating to the study was tested for anti-SARS-CoV-2-IgG antibodies using a commercially available ELISA.

    Among the 529 patients included in the COVIPREG study between April 29 and June 26, 529 were assessed for SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody response and 25 had a positive test, ie 4.7 % with a confidence interval at 95 % [3.0 %-6.9 %]).

In the present study this dephenolized liquid phase (DLP) showed an increase of 42% in methane yield compared to the raw liquid phase (LP) demonstrating the inhibitor character of such compounds. The main extracted phenols and furans were 3,4-Dihydroxyphenylglycol (DHPG), Hydroxytyrosol (HT), Tyrosol (Ty), Vanillic acid (AcV), Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), Vanillin (V) and Furfural (F).This study also aimed to evaluate the individual effect on methane production of these specific phenols and furans the within the mixture of several ones from LP. And the external factors affecting the leaching rates of indium and tin were studied to optimize. In this process, the fine powder with a weight ratio of 97.6%, which particle size less than 0.075 mm, was obtained with the optimal milling time of 30 min by rapid grinding in the planetary high energy ball milling. About -0.003 l/s of grinding rate constant was performed in the grinding size fraction from 3 mm to 0.075 mm. The research results indicated that the particle size less than 0.035 mm was agglomerated, and the addition of H2O2 reduced the leaching rate for the particle size less than 0.075 mm. Moreover, 86.3% and 76.1% of indium and tin were leached in a short leaching time of 10 min by using 3 M H2SO4 at 85 °C for particle size range from 0.075 to 0.035 mm, while 96.9% and 85.6%, respectively in 90 min.This study systematically investigated the acid washing of incineration bottom ash (IBA) of municipal solid waste, focusing on the removal and leaching of heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cr, Cd, Cu, and Ni), as well as their pH-dependent behavior. A series of small-scale laboratory acid washing tests with different nitric acid concentrations and washing periods were conducted. The concentrations of metals in the washing water were measured to evaluate the metal removal efficiency. Then, one stage batch leaching test was conducted for washed IBA to evaluate the leaching reduction efficiency of washing. The results showed that the maximum metal removal efficiencies for Zn, Cu, and Ni (62-76%) were higher than those for Pb, Cr, and Cd (17-25%), which were reached at the highest acid addition for most of the metals. Increasing the washing period did not always increase the metal removal efficiency. The maximum leaching reduction efficiencies were higher for Zn, Cr, and Cu (93-98%) than those for Pb, Ni, and Cd (73-79%). Both washing and leaching processes showed a similar metal concentration-pH profile for each metal. For Pb, Zn, Cr, and Cd, the metal concentration-pH profile generally followed the metal hydroxide solubility versus pH curves. For Cu and Ni, the concentration of metal decreased with the increasing pH first and then kept at a stable concentration higher than the solubility of the hydroxide, indicating that Cu and Ni in the IBA washing water and leachates did not exist dominantly as their hydroxides.

  • Overall, this may guide the adoption/implementation of primary preventive measures protective for the vast majority of the population, including most susceptible subgroups. However, the application of personalised medicine into occupational health requires overcoming some practical, ethical, legal, economical, and socio-political issues, particularly concerning the protection of privacy, and the risk of discrimination that the workers may experience. In this scenario, the concerted action of academic, industry, governmental, and stakeholder representatives should be encouraged to improve research aimed to guide effective and sustainable implementation of personalised medicine in occupational health fields.The schizomid fauna of mainland Australia currently comprises 60 species within seven named genera, of which five are endemic to the continent Attenuizomus Harvey, 2000, Brignolizomus Harvey, 2000, Draculoides Harvey, 1992, Julattenius Harvey, 1992, Notozomus Harvey, 2000. Most Australian schizomids have been described from eastern and northern Australia, but there is also a significant subterranean fauna that has been found in hypogean habitats in the semi-arid Pilbara region of Western Australia. The vast majority of these species can be assigned to the genus Draculoides and this study is the first in a proposed series to revise this highly diverse genus. We treat the species found in the western Pilbara region, which includes 13 new species and 13 previously named species, using morphological characters and multi-locus sequence data. We also incorporate a molecular "mini-barcode" approach for COI, 12S and ITS2 to diagnose the new species. In this study, using the Chinese tree shrew (Tupaia belangeri chinensis), which is genetically close to primates, we identified the Tupaia oligoadenylate synthetases-like 1 (tOASL1) as a positive regulator of the Tupaia MDA5 (tMDA5) and Tupaia MAVS (tMAVS)-mediated IFN signaling. Overexpression of tOASL1 significantly potentiated the RNA virus-triggered induction of the type I IFNs and downstream antiviral genes. Conversely, knockdown of tOASL1 had an impaired antiviral immune response. Mechanistically, tOASL1 was associated with mitochondria and directly interacted with tMDA5 and tMAVS. Upon RNA virus infection, tOASL1 enhanced the interaction between tMDA5 and tMAVS via its OAS and UBL domains. Overexpression of tOASL1 significantly potentiated the RNA virus-triggered induction of the type I IFNs and downstream antiviral genes. Conversely, knockdown of tOASL1 had an impaired antiviral immune response. Mechanistically, tOASL1 was associated with mitochondria and directly interacted with tMDA5 and tMAVS.     Studies indicate that many types of surgical care are cost-effective compared with other health interventions in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). However, global health investments to support these interventions remain limited. This study undertakes a scoping review of research on the economic impact of surgical interventions in LMICs to determine the methodologies used in measuring economic benefits.

    The Arksey and O'Malley methodological framework for scoping reviews and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews checklist were used to review the data systematically. Online databases were used to identify papers published between 2005 and 2020, from which we selected 19 publications that quantitatively examined the economic benefits of surgical interventions in LMICs.

    Majority of publications (79%) reported the use of disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) to assess economic impact. In comparison, 21% used other measures, such asreporting both estimates.
    To make informed policy decisions regarding global health investments, the economic impact must be accurately measured. Researchers employ a range of techniques to quantify the economic benefit of surgeries in LMICs, which limits understanding of overall economic value. We conclude that the literature would benefit from a careful selection of methods, incorporating age and disability weights based on the Global Burden of Disease weights, and converting DALYs to dollars using the value of statistical life approach and the human capital approach, reporting both estimates.
    Post-randomisation exclusions in randomised controlled trials are common and may include participants identified as not meeting trial eligibility criteria after randomisation. We report how a decision might be reached and reported on, to include or exclude these participants. We illustrate using a motivating scenario from the BREATHE trial (Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02426112) evaluating azithromycin for the treatment of chronic lung disease in people aged 6-19 years with HIV in Zimbabwe and Malawi.

    Prospective feasibility study.

    The study was conducted in a university setting and participants' homes.

    Thirty-five volunteers ≥55 years old were recruited.

    Participants were asked to follow a balance exercise programme 7 days a week for 3 weeks using a phone application. Seventeen participants trained for a further 3 weeks.

    Postural sway measures during quiet standing with feet at shoulder width apart and feet together, one leg standing and tandem stance were measured at baseline, and at the end of the 3 and 6 training weeks; the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) assessed participants' physical activity level before training; and app acceptability was recorded using a user experience questionnaire.

    Participants on the 3 and 6-week programme on average completed 20 (±5) and 38 (±11) days of training, respectively, and all scored moderate tserved in the analysed measures demonstrate the feasibility of using an app to train balance in moderately to highly physically active older participants. This demonstrates that given appropriate tools the older population is positive towards and receptive of digital interventions aimed to improve balance.
    Law enforcement involves exposure to threatening situations and traumatic events that place police officers at risk for negative physical and mental health outcomes. Resilience support, among other elements of training, may help mitigate these risks, yet little is known about which aspects of resilience support help officers achieve better health and quality of life outcomes.

    This review will consider all literature that examines the links between resilience support, physical/mental health and quality of life outcomes for police officers in five Anglosphere nations Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. This review will include all literature (including those that show null or negative links) involving any public policing agency that has a formal rank structure and includes a localized, uniformed emergency response function. Resilience support may include, but is not limited to tools, policies, models, frameworks, programmes and organizational features that seek to promote positive, physical/mental health and quality of life outcomes at three levels of resilience (1) readiness and preparedness, (2) response and adaptation, (3) recovery and adjustment.

    To determine the reliability, responsiveness, and convergent validity of the Four-Meter Walk Test (4mWT) compared to the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) surrounding total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

    Secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial.

    One hundred sixty-two patients (aged 63.5 ± 7.4 (mean ± sd) years; 89 females) undergoing TKA participated.

    4mWT (usual and fastest) and 6MWT were measured 1-2weeks preoperatively, and 1, 2, 3, 6 and 12months post-operatively.

    4mWT demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability with Interclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC's) ranging from 0.80 to 0.93 s. 4mWT also demonstrated small measurement error with Standard Error of Measurement (SEM) ranging from 0.15 to 0.35 s. 4mWT (fastest) demonstrated similar responsiveness to 6mWT in the first 2 months after surgery and better responsiveness from 2 to 3months after surgery. Convergent validity between 6MWT and 4mWT (fastest) was high, with Pearson correlation coefficients ranging from 0.73 space and time requirements to conduct each test, 4mWT may be preferred for routine clinical assessment.   • Our previous study showed that silencing of lncRNA Gm14461 alleviated pain in a murine model of trigeminal neuralgia (TN), but the molecular mechanism remains not fully understood. Evidence indicates that astrocyte activation and autophagy are involved in the development of TN. Herein, this study aimed to elucidate whether the pain-relief effect of Gm14461 silencing in TN involved regulation of astrocyte activation and autophagy. A murine model of TN was induced by chronic constriction injury of the infraorbital nerve surgery. The mechanical withdrawal threshold (MWT) was measured to assess the analgesic effect of Gm14461 silencing. Mouse astrocytes were treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as a cell model. Astrocyte activation was evaluated by glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) immunofluorescence and western blot analysis of GFAP. Autophagy was evaluated by LC3 immunofluorescence and western blot analysis of autophagy-related proteins. The results showed that Gm14461 silencing increased MWT value in TN model ****. Meanwhile, Gm14461 silencing inhibited astrocyte activation and enhanced autophagy in both TN **** and LPS-treated astrocytes. The enhancement of autophagy by Gm14461 silencing involved the activation of the AMPK signaling and the suppression of the Akt/mTOR signaling.     We analyzed data from a prospective cohort study (n = 371 children; 13 visits). Mothers reported their primary feeding information source at baseline and completed child 3-day dietary records each visit. Child adiposity indicators were calculated from repeated height/weight measurements and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Longitudinal models examined beverage intakes and adiposity over time by source.

  • Aconitum L., the main source of Aconitum medicinal materials, is rich in diterpenoid alkaloids. Several drugs derived from diterpenoid alkaloids are widely used to the current clinical treatment of pain, inflammation, and other symptoms. This paper aims to clarify the main metabolites and distribution of diterpenoid alkaloids in different parts of Aconitum plants. To that end, 7 species of Aconitum from three subgenera were analyzed by UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS under identical conditions. The fragmentation regularity of various types of diterpene alkaloids were determined and a total of 126 metabolites were identified by comparing the reference material and secondary mass spectrometry, with the literature. 67, 49, 17, 41, 14, 17 and 21 metabolites were identified from Aconitum carmichaeli, Aconitum stylosum, Aconitum sinomontanum, Aconitum vilmorinianum, Aconitum pendulum, Aconitum tanguticum and Aconitum gymnandrum, respectively. Therefore, a fast, accurate and reproductive method to determine CsA concentration in this complex matrix is needed. We report the validation of a liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method to measure CsA concentration in heart parenchyma, applicable to everyday practice. The method was found to be precise, accurate, reproducible, specific of CsA, and without any matrix effect or carry-over. The lower limit of quantification was 50 pg of CsA in myocardium. The method was linear up to 2000 pg of CsA in myocardium. Samples were found stable for one year at - 80 °C. At last, 40 drugs which could be prescribed to heart transplant recipients were tested with the method and showed no interference with CsA signal. The method was suitable to quantify CsA in endomyocardial biopsies from heart transplanted patients. Capitalising on the abundance of unexplored endophytes that reside within marine plants, this study assessed the anticancer potential of ethyl acetate endophytic fungal extracts (i.e. MBFT Tip 2.1, MBL 1.2, MBS 3.2, MKS 3 and MKS 3.1) derived from leaves, stem and fruits of marine plants that grow along Morib Beach, Malaysia. For identification of endophytic fungi, EF 4/ EF 3 and ITS 1/ ITS 4 PCR primer pairs were used to amplify the fungal 18S rDNA sequence and ITS region sequence, respectively. The resultant sequences were subjected to similarity search via the NCBI GenBank database. High-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) hyphenated with bioassays was used to characterise the extracts in terms of their phytochemical profiles and bioactivity. Microchemical derivatisation was used to assess polyphenolic and phytosterol/ terpenoid content whereas biochemical derivatisation was used to establish antioxidant activities and α-amylase enzyme inhibition. The sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay was used to assess the anticancer effect of the extracts against HCT116 (a human colorectal cancer cell line). The present results indicated MBS 3.2 (Penicillium decumbens) as the most potent extract against HCT116 (IC50 = 0.16 μg/mL), approximately 3-times more potent than 5-flurouracil (IC50 = 0.46 μg/mL). Stepwise multiple regression method suggests that the anticancer effect of MBS 3.2 could be associated with high polyphenolic content and antioxidant potential. The chromatographic separation was carried out on an Acquity BEH™ C18 column (1.7 μm, 2.1 × 50 mm) with 0.1 % (v/v) formic acid in water and acetonitrile as mobile phase under gradient condition in 6 min. The developed method was validated in terms of linearity, LOD, LOQ, precision, stability and recovery according to international conference on harmonization guidelines. The correlation coefficients of all the calibration curves were ≥0.9902 and recoveries ranged from 98.22 to 104.49% (RSD ≤2.18 %). Relative standard deviations of intra-day, inter-day precisions and stability were ≤ 1.04, 1.09 and 2.80 %, respectively. The quantitative results showed remarkable differences in the content of all the compounds in different Artemisia species. The quantitative values of each peak were summarized as mean ± SD. The statistical analysis for comparison of observed quantitative differences of each compound was done to show that they are statistically significant. In-vitro assessment of extracts of selected Artemisia species inhibited adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells, hence it may have certain phytochemicals which are responsible for reducing obesity and related metabolic disorders.
    Aconitum L., the main source of Aconitum medicinal materials, is rich in diterpenoid alkaloids. Several drugs derived from diterpenoid alkaloids are widely used to the current clinical treatment of pain, inflammation, and other symptoms. This paper aims to clarify the main metabolites and distribution of diterpenoid alkaloids in different parts of Aconitum plants. To that end, 7 species of Aconitum from three subgenera were analyzed by UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS under identical conditions. The fragmentation regularity of various types of diterpene alkaloids were determined and a total of 126 metabolites were identified by comparing the reference material and secondary mass spectrometry, with the literature. 67, 49, 17, 41, 14, 17 and 21 metabolites were identified from Aconitum carmichaeli, Aconitum stylosum, Aconitum sinomontanum, Aconitum vilmorinianum, Aconitum pendulum, Aconitum tanguticum and Aconitum gymnandrum, respectively. Furthermore, results from metabolites distribution and relative peak area analysis suggest that the leaf of A. carmichaeli, the leaf and stem of A. stylosum and A. vilmorinianum, and the flower of A. pendulum have potential as medicinal resources and are worth further development. We report the validation of a liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method to measure CsA concentration in heart parenchyma, applicable to everyday practice.     This work aims at promoting target localization accuracy in cranial stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) applications by focusing on the correction of sequence-dependent (also patient induced) magnetic resonance (MR) distortions at the lesion locations. A phantom-based quality assurance (QA) methodology was developed and implemented for the evaluation of three distortion correction techniques. The same approach was also adapted to cranial MR images used for SRS treatment planning purposes in single or multiple brain metastases cases.

    Social support is important to psychological well-being in late life. However, findings in the literature regarding its effects are mixed, less information is available for anxiety than for depressive symptoms, and few studies have been carried out in Italy. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the influence of social support on symptoms of anxiety and of depression in a sample of geriatric outpatients in Italy.

    This cross-sectional study consecutively enrolled 299 outpatients without dementia (age ≥ 65, all neuropsychologically tested). Social support was assessed with the ENRICHD Social Support Instrument and by interview. Symptoms of anxiety and of depression were evaluated with short versions of the State-Trait Personality Inventory Trait Anxiety and Geriatric Depression scales. The relationship between social support and psychological well-being was examined by multiple linear regression models with socio-demographic and clinical variables, including cognitive performance, as potentialmoting mental health in late life.
    Different dimensions of social support differentially affect psychological well-being. The protective effect of perceived emotional support is consistent with social cognitive models of health. The harmful effect of being married may be capturing the distress of the pre-bereavement period. Alternatively, it may reflect oppression by gender roles within marriage in a predominantly female sample in a traditional society. Our findings provide insight into the relationship between social support and psychological well-being, and identify potential targets for psychosocial interventions promoting mental health in late life.

This paper proposes a framework based on a convolutional neural network (CNN), namely Ultra-Dense Denoising Network (UDDN), for low-dose X-ray image denoising. To promote feature extraction, we designed a novel residual block which establishes a solid correlation among multiple-path neural units via abundant cross connections in its representation enhancement section. Experiments on synthetic additive noise X-ray data show that the UDDN achieves statistically significant higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index measure (SSIM) than other comparative methods. We enhanced the clinical adaptability of our framework by training using normally-distributed noise and tested on clinical data taken from procedures at St. Thomas' hospital in London.     Developing robotic tools that introduce substantial changes in the surgical workflow is challenging because quantitative requirements are missing. Experiments on cadavers can provide valuable information to derive workspace requirements, tool size, and surgical workflow. This work aimed to quantify the volume inside the knee joint available for manipulation of minimally invasive robotic surgical tools. In particular, we aim to develop a novel procedure for minimally invasive unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) using a robotic laser-cutting tool.

    Contrast solution was injected into nine cadaveric knees and CT scans were performed to evaluate the tool manipulation volume inside the knee joints. The volume and distribution of the contrast solution inside the knee joints were analyzed with respect to the femur, tibia, and the anatomical locations that need to be reached by a laser-cutting tool to perform bone resection for a standard UKA implant.

    Quantitative information was determined about the tool manipulation volume inside these nine knee joints and its distribution around the cutting lines required for a standard implant.

    Based on the volume distribution, we could suggest a possible workflow for minimally invasive UKA, which provides a large manipulation volume, and deducted that for the proposed workflow, an instrument with a thickness of 5-8 mm should be feasible.

We examine among forager-horticulturalists whether compromised bone strength (indicated by fracture and lower bone mineral density, BMD) is associated with subsistence task cessation. We also estimate the magnitude of productivity losses associated with compromised bone strength. Fracture is associated with cessation of hunting, tree chopping, and walking long distances, but not tool manufacture. Age-specific productivity losses from hunting cessation associated with fracture and lower BMD are substantial ~397 lost kcals/day, with expected future losses of up to 1.9 million kcals (22% of expected production). Productivity loss is thus substantial for high strength and endurance tasks. Determining the extent to which impairment obstructs productivity in contemporary subsistence populations improves our ability to infer past consequences of impairment.The inferior olive (IO) is composed of electrically-coupled neurons that make climbing fiber synapses onto Purkinje cells. PSMα3 initiates the aggregation, forming unstable aggregates capable of seeding other PSMs resulting in stable amyloid structures. Using chemical kinetics we dissect the molecular mechanism of aggregation of individual PSMs showing that PSMα1, PSMα3 and PSMβ1 display secondary nucleation whereas PSMβ2 aggregates through primary nucleation and elongation. Our findings suggest that various PSMs have evolved to ensure fast and efficient biofilm formation through cooperation between individual peptides.

Determining the extent to which impairment obstructs productivity in contemporary subsistence populations improves our ability to infer past consequences of impairment.The inferior olive (IO) is composed of electrically-coupled neurons that make climbing fiber synapses onto Purkinje cells. Neurons in different IO subnuclei are inhibited by synapses with wide ranging release kinetics. Inhibition can be exclusively synchronous, asynchronous, or a mixture of both. Whether the same boutons, neurons or sources provide these kinetically distinct types of inhibition was not known. We find that in mice the deep cerebellar nuclei (DCN) and vestibular nuclei (VN) are two major sources of inhibition to the IO that are specialized to provide inhibitory input with distinct kinetics. DCN to IO synapses lack fast synaptotagmin isoforms, release neurotransmitter asynchronously, and are exclusively GABAergic. VN to IO synapses contain fast synaptotagmin isoforms, release neurotransmitter synchronously, and are mediated by combined GABAergic and glycinergic transmission. These findings indicate that VN and DCN inhibitory inputs to the IO are suited to control different aspects of IO activity.The infective ability of the opportunistic pathogen Staphylococcus aureus, recognized as the most frequent cause of biofilm-associated infections, is associated with biofilm-mediated resistance to host immune response. Phenol-soluble modulins (PSM) comprise the structural scaffold of S. aureus biofilms through self-assembly into functional amyloids, but the role of individual PSMs during biofilm formation remains poorly understood and the molecular pathways of PSM self-assembly are yet to be identified. Here we demonstrate high degree of cooperation between individual PSMs during functional amyloid formation. PSMα3 initiates the aggregation, forming unstable aggregates capable of seeding other PSMs resulting in stable amyloid structures. Using chemical kinetics we dissect the molecular mechanism of aggregation of individual PSMs showing that PSMα1, PSMα3 and PSMβ1 display secondary nucleation whereas PSMβ2 aggregates through primary nucleation and elongation. Our findings suggest that various PSMs have evolved to ensure fast and efficient biofilm formation through cooperation between individual peptides.
