  • Implantable active electronic microchips are being developed as multinode in-body sensors and actuators. There is a need to develop high throughput microfabrication techniques applicable to complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)-based silicon electronics in order to process bare dies from a foundry to physiologically compatible implant ensembles. Post-processing of a miniature CMOS chip by usual methods is challenging as the typically sub-mm size small dies are hard to handle and not readily compatible with the standard microfabrication, e.g., photolithography. Here, we present a soft material-based, low chemical and mechanical stress, scalable microchip post-CMOS processing method that enables photolithography and electron-beam deposition on hundreds of micrometers scale dies. The technique builds on the use of a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) carrier substrate, in which the CMOS chips were embedded and precisely aligned, thereby enabling batch post-processing without complication from additional micromachining or chip treatments. A recombinant Myxoma virus (strains MYXV-Tol and ha-MYXV) was rapidly identified, harbouring a 2.8 kbp insertion containing evolved duplicates of M060L, M061L, M064L, and M065L genes from myxoma virus (MYXV) or other Poxviruses. Since 2017, 1616 rabbits and 125 hares were tested by a qPCR directed to M000.5L/R gene, conserved in MYXV and MYXV-Tol/ha-MYXV strains. A subset of the positive samples (20%) from both species was tested for the insert with MYXV being detected in rabbits and the recombinant MYXV in hares. Recently, three wild rabbits were found dead South of mainland Portugal, showing skin oedema and pulmonary lesions that tested positive for the 2.8 kbp insert. Sequencing analysis showed 100% similarity with the insert sequences described in Iberian hares from Spain. Viral particles were observed in the lungs and eyelids of rabbits by electron microscopy, and isolation in RK13 cells attested virus infectivity. Despite that the analysis of complete genomes may predict the recombinant MYXV strains' ability to infect rabbit, routine analyses showed species segregation for the circulation of MYXV and recombinant MYXV in wild rabbit and in Iberian hares, respectively. This study demonstrates, however, that recombinant MYXV can effectively infect and cause myxomatosis in wild rabbits and domestic rabbits, raising serious concerns for the future of the Iberian wild leporids while emphasises the need for the continuous monitoring of MYXV and recombinant MYXV in both species.We report the spark discharge synthesis of aerosol germanium nanoparticles followed by sintering in a tube furnace at different temperatures varying from 25 to 800 °C. According to transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) data, primary nanoparticles sintered at temperatures from 25 to 475 °C basically have a structure of Ge crystals embedded in a GeOx amorphous matrix, as well as visible photoluminescence (PL) with the maximum at 550 nm. Pure germanium nanoparticles are prepared at temperatures above 625 °C and distinguished by their absence of visible PL. The shape of the experimental UV-vis-NIR extinction spectra significantly depends on the size distribution of the germanium crystals. This fact was confirmed by simulations according to Mie theory for obtained ensembles of germanium nanoparticles.This study examined the difficulties of running online physical education classes in the context of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and used the findings to develop an efficient operation plan to address these difficulties. To address the identified problems and facilitate the efficient operation of online physical education classes, changes in strategic learning methods are needed to understand online physical education characteristics and thereby better communicate the value of physical education. It is also necessary to cultivate teaching expertise through sharing online physical education classes, where collaboration among physical education teachers is central. In addition, evaluation processes should be less formal to encourage active student participation.A comparative active experiment that is aimed at collocated measurement of seismic rotation rates along three orthogonal axes by means of three different methods is described. The rotation rates in a short-period range of 6-20 Hz were obtained using three different methods the 6C Rotaphone sensor system developed by the authors, the commercial R-1 rotational sensor by Eentec, and a small-aperture array of twelve standard velocigraphs in a rectangular arrangement. Those three methods are compared and discussed in detail. A medium-size quarry blast was used as a seismic source. #link# At a distance of approximately 240 m, the rotation rates reached an amplitude of the order of magnitude of 10-4-10-5 rad/s. The array derived rotation rates displayed serious limitations, as clearly documented. The R-1 instruments have shown certain technical problems that partly limit their applicability. The measured rotation rates were compared to the relevant acceleration components according to rotation-to-translation relations. Out of all the three methods, the records best matching the acceleration components were made by Rotaphone.

  • The interactions between anions and WO3 surface were theoretically analysed to explain the effects of anions. The electrical energy per order values suggest that UVA-LED/WO3/PDS process is suitable for water with low organic carbon.Herein, two new swarm intelligence based algorithms namely; grey wolf optimization (GWO) and antlion optimization (ALO) algorithms were presented, for the first time, as variable selection tools in spectroscopic data analysis. In order to assess the performance of these algorithms, they were applied along with the recently introduced firefly algorithm (FFA) and the well-established genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm on four different spectroscopic datasets of varying sizes and nature (UV and IR). Partial least squares (PLS) regression models were built using the selected variables by these algorithms along with the full spectral data as the reference models. The obtained results prove that the ALO and GWO optimization algorithms select variables in most cases less than GA and PSO while keeping the PLS performance almost the same. Accordingly, these algorithms can be successfully used for variable selection in spectroscopic data analysis.The Stoeber reaction was used to grow silica microparticles in the presence of the fluorescent dye Tris(bipyridine)ruthenium (II) chloride. The diameter of the obtained particles varies from about 150 to 280 nm depending on the dye concentration. Using spectrofluorometry methods, concentration quenching of fluorescence of dye solutions was studied before and after growing the microparticles. It was found out that the concentration quenching of fluorescence decreases significantly after its incorporation into the silicon dioxide microparticles upon excitation in the short-wavelength region of the spectrum.In this paper, a simple, rapid, low-cost and potential method was established for the simultaneous quantitative analysis of dabigatran etexilate (DABE) and dabigatran (DAB) in spiked biological fluids. It combined excitation-emission matrix fluorescence (EEMF) with different second-order calibration methods, including the self-weighted alternating normalized residue fitting (SWANRF) algorithm based on trilinear decomposition model, the multivariate curve resolution - alternating least-squares (MCR-ALS) based on bilinear decomposition model and the unfolded partial least-square coupled with residual bilinearization (U-PLS/RBL) based on latent variables model. The proposed method showed "second-order advantage", that is, satisfactory quantitative results were successfully obtained even in the presence of unknown interferences and serious spectral overlap. The recoveries of DABE and DAB in spiked biological fluids were 91.7%-101.7% for SWANRF, 95.9%-117.8% for MCR-ALS, 83.0%-109.6% for U-PLS/RBL, respectively. Figures of merit and other statistical parameters were also calculated to assess the performance of the proposed method. Moreover, the modeling procedures and characteristics of three different models in EEMF analysis were discussed and compared.

Secondary objectives were to examine if parents and caregivers modified the context to meet the infants' needs and if making modifications was positively associated with infants' development.

    Participants were 176 infants (DC=48; HC=58, FC=70). Infants' were randomly assigned to intervention (IG) or comparison (CG) groups within each context. The Alberta Infant Motor Scale and Affordances in the Daycare and Home Environment for Motor Development were used. A cognitive-motor intervention was provided for infants in the intervention groups; and, a home-based support protocol for all caregivers and parents.

With the lack of common evidence left behind at a crime scene, consideration of alternative potential evidence is necessary. Glitter and shimmer particles from cosmetic products will potentially transfer from or onto an offender, crime scene, or victim. The transfer of these cosmetic particles during a close personal attack generally goes unnoticed, and thus offenders are unaware of the use of such evidence that may associate a suspect to a crime scene. In this study, 36 glitter and 40 shimmer samples were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy - energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) whereby characterization schemes were developed to help identify particles potentially transferred during close personal assaults. Samples were classified into 7 glitter and 4 shimmer groups based on elemental composition, and the developed classification models showed high potential to accurately associate or differentiate unknown cosmetic particles collected from a potential crime scene, with cross-validation accuracies ranging from 94 to 100%. Pearson results showed no overlap between inter- and intra-sample correlations, thereby suggesting low possibility of false sample identification. Analysis of variance with post-hoc Tukey test was subsequently performed to determine how well detected elements and element peak ratios differentiated the glitter and shimmer samples, respectively.

  • High pCO2 habitats and their populations provide an unparalleled opportunity to assess how species may survive under future ocean acidification conditions, and help to reveal the traits that confer tolerance. Here we utilize a unique CO2 vent system to study the effects of exposure to elevated pCO2 on trait-shifts observed throughout natural populations of Astroides calycularis, an azooxanthellate scleractinian coral endemic to the Mediterranean. Unexpected shifts in skeletal and growth patterns were found. Colonies shifted to a skeletal phenotype characterized by encrusting morphology, smaller size, reduced coenosarc tissue, fewer polyps, and less porous and denser skeletons at low pH. Interestingly, while individual polyps calcified more and extended faster at low pH, whole colonies found at low pH site calcified and extended their skeleton at the same rate as did those at ambient pH sites. Transcriptomic data revealed strong genetic differentiation among local populations of this warm water species whose distribution range is currently expanding northward. We found excess differentiation in the CO2 vent population for genes central to calcification, including genes for calcium management (calmodulin, calcium-binding proteins), pH regulation (V-type proton ATPase), and inorganic carbon regulation (carbonic anhydrase). Combined, our results demonstrate how coral populations can persist in high pCO2 environments, making this system a powerful candidate for investigating acclimatization and local adaptation of organisms to global environmental change.

    We conducted retrospective review of patients who underwent successful transseptal TMVR with balloon-expandable valves for symptomatic severe mitral stenosis due to mitral annular calcification at our institution between January 2014 and February 2020. Invasive hemodynamic measurements were obtained both before valve implantation (predeployment) and after (postdeployment).

    High pCO2 habitats and their populations provide an unparalleled opportunity to assess how species may survive under future ocean acidification conditions, and help to reveal the traits that confer tolerance. Here we utilize a unique CO2 vent system to study the effects of exposure to elevated pCO2 on trait-shifts observed throughout natural populations of Astroides calycularis, an azooxanthellate scleractinian coral endemic to the Mediterranean. Unexpected shifts in skeletal and growth patterns were found. Colonies shifted to a skeletal phenotype characterized by encrusting morphology, smaller size, reduced coenosarc tissue, fewer polyps, and less porous and denser skeletons at low pH. Interestingly, while individual polyps calcified more and extended faster at low pH, whole colonies found at low pH site calcified and extended their skeleton at the same rate as did those at ambient pH sites. Transcriptomic data revealed strong genetic differentiation among local populations of this warm water species whose distribution range is currently expanding northward. We found excess differentiation in the CO2 vent population for genes central to calcification, including genes for calcium management (calmodulin, calcium-binding proteins), pH regulation (V-type proton ATPase), and inorganic carbon regulation (carbonic anhydrase). A prospective study was done in 60 patients of symptomatic deviated nasal septum with inferior turbinate hypertrophy. Septoturbinoplasty was performed. Patients' nasal cavity was packed for 48 h after being randomly divided into 3 groups (1) packing using merocel, (2) intra-intra nasal septal silicone splint, (3) packing using truncated merocel along with infant feeding tube. Patients were given a questionnaire 24 h post operatively and their reponse was analysed to compare nasal blockage, epistaxis, epiphora and headache. Pain on pack removal was recorded after 48 h. We found that merocel with infant feeding tube had better tolerance than plain merocel in almost all cases, with symptoms of nasal blockage, epiphora, headache and pain on pack removal being lesser than with plain merocel, and comparable to the results produced by nasal splints. Also the epistaxis control in merocel with infant feeding tube was better than with nasal splints. Truncated merocel with infant feeding tubes provides a suitable and cheap replacement for nasal splints which may not be affordable to a lot of patients, or may not in available in many settings. We conducted a study of trans-buccal approach for management of mandibular angle fractures. It was a non-randomised observational study. 57 patients of mandible angle fractures were included in the study. We strongly suggest the use of transbuccal approach for ORIF in mandibular angle fractures owing to the ease of procedure, comfort of surgeon and less complication rate.To evaluate various factors that affects the auditory outcomes in pediatric patients with bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss who underwent unilateral cochlear implantation. 50 prelingually deaf pediatric patients aged between 1 and 6 years with bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss who underwent unilateral cochlear implantation between January 2016 and June 2018 at our tertiary centre were included in this study. Auditory performance was measured using revised categories of auditory performance score at 1 year post cochlear implantation. A Statistical analysis of several factors was performed to reveal any significant relation with outcomes of cochlear implantation. The results of the study showed that patients with younger age at implantation, patient who used hearing aid prior to surgery and patients with normal cochlear morphology had better auditory outcomes post cochlear implantation than their counter group and are the factors which have positive effect on the cochlear implantation outcomes, whereas factors which did not showed any significant relation with the auditory outcomes of cochlear implantation are gender, consanguinity and birth hypoxia. Age at implantation, use of hearing aid prior to surgery and cochlear morphology are the factors with direct impact on the outcomes of cochlear implant.Tympanoplasty is the standard and well-established procedure for closure of tympanic membrane perforations. Tympanoplasty in wet ear is still a topic of debate among ENT surgeons. This study discusses the balance between wait and watch policy and early intervention in wet ear. It also compares the rate of graft uptake and hearing improvement in Type I tympanoplasty in dry and wet ears. This is a hospital based, observational, descriptive and comparative study. Total 246 patients enrolled in the study. Two groups were created with 123 patients in each group. One included dry ears and another included wet ears. All patients had mucosal type of chronic otitis media. They all underwent Type I tympanoplasty. Graft uptake rate and hearing was compared between both groups. The overall success rate (graft uptake) was 91.06% (224). The success rate in dry ear group was 93.50% (115) and in wet ear group it was 88.62% (109). This study concluded that there is no added advantage of drying the ear rather the delay in treatment increases morbidity and drop outs in Indian scenario.
    Ear, nose and throat (E.N.T.) malignancies in children are rare and can have different characteristics than those occurring among adults. Early diagnosis and treatment can improve the survival rates. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of different E.N.T. malignant tumours in children and the way they presented so that they could be diagnosed early and managed efficiently in time. The other object of the study was to highlight the clinical, pathological, diagnostic and therapeutic features of E.N.T. malignancies in children which were of paramount importance in their effective management.

    This hospital-based observational study reports on the incidence of different E.N.T. malignancies in children seen over a period of 5years in the Department of E.N.T. in a tertiary care medical college hospital. We studied 25 patients in this case series of paediatric E.N.T. malignancies.

    E.N.T. malignancies accounted for approximately 20% of all paediatric malignancies. We observed 17 (68%) cases of carcinoma while mesenchymal malignancies were seen in 8 (32%) cases.

    Oral health is an integral component of general health. Periodontal disease is one of the most prevalent dental diseases among the population. Researchers have identified an association of various risk factors with periodontal disease. The study aimed to assess the periodontal status among the sugar factory workers of Karad taluka.

    The study was conducted among 1200 subjects in the age group of 25-54 years. Personal and sociodemographic data were recorded in the proforma based on the WHO oral health survey form (1997). Periodontal status was assessed using community periodontal index (CPI). For statistical analyses, Chi-square test and Multiple Logistic Regression analyses was performed.

    The sociodemographic characteristics (age, sex, and socioeconomic status) and deleterious habits like tobacco chewing and smoking were found to be significantly associated with the CPI and LoA scores for the population (

    to investigate the postendodontic pain in asymptomatic necrotic teeth prepared with different rotary instrumentation techniques after single-visit root canal treatment.

    A total of 60 single-rooted teeth with single root canal were treated endodontically. Teeth were divided randomly into four equaled groups (
    = 15) according to instrumentation systems as follows group I were shaped using ProTaper Universal (control group) (Dentsply/Maillefer, Ballaigues), group 2 were shaped with 2Shape (Micro-Mega) till TS2 (25.06), group 3 were shaped with XP-endo Shaper file (FKG Dentaire) till #30.04, and group 4 were shaped with Reciproc blue (VDW) till R25 (25.08). All groups were prepared according to manufacturer's instructions and obturated with lateral condensation technique. Pain levels were assessed by visual analog scale (VAS) and verbal evaluation of pain questionnaire after 6, 12, 24, 48 h, and 7 days of canal obturation. Data were then analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests at
    value of 0.05.

    Postendodontic pain started after 6 h of treatment with highest values and then decreased gradually until almost vanished after 1 week of treatment, with no significant differences in VAS among studied groups (ProTaper, 2 shape, XP endo Shaper, and Reciproc Blue) after 6,12, and 48 h of treatment.     A cross-sectional survey was administered to all 51 applicants of the April 2019 internal medicine Arab Board OSCE examination in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and included questions on preparedness, stress level, and prior educational experiences. #link# Exposures were evaluated for correlation against Arab Board pass rates using Pearson correlation and the two-tailed significance was recorded.

    This study is a 1 year prospective study conducted at IGMC, Shimla after taking proper consent and ethical approval from institutional ethical committee. Total 50 cases of symptomatic cholelithiasis belonging to either sex admitted in surgical wards of IGMC, Shimla for elective surgery were selected for present study. Cholecystectomy was done in all cases after doing all investigations.

    Postoperatively within 48 h symptoms were observed in 29 patients. Out of these, flatulence was present in 1, nausea and vomiting in 7 and 8, respectively. Combined flatulence vomiting in 5 and flatulence-reflux-nausea in 1 patient. After 1 month of interval, all patients were symptom free.

The study was conducted among 1200 subjects in the age group of 25-54 years. Personal and sociodemographic data were recorded in the proforma based on the WHO oral health survey form (1997). A total of 60 single-rooted teeth with single root canal were treated endodontically. Teeth were divided randomly into four equaled groups ( = 15) according to instrumentation systems as follows group I were shaped using ProTaper Universal (control group) (Dentsply/Maillefer, Ballaigues), group 2 were shaped with 2Shape (Micro-Mega) till TS2 (25.06), group 3 were shaped with XP-endo Shaper file (FKG Dentaire) till #30.04, and group 4 were shaped with Reciproc blue (VDW) till R25 (25.08). All groups were prepared according to manufacturer's instructions and obturated with lateral condensation technique. Pain levels were assessed by visual analog scale (VAS) and verbal evaluation of pain questionnaire after 6, 12, 24, 48 h, and 7 days of canal obturation.   • The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a significant decrease in the number of elective cancer operations performed. Cancer patients are felt to be a high-risk group for COVID-19, and therefore, concerns have been raised regarding the safety of operating during this time; however, the potential risk of cancer progression if untreated must also be considered. The aim of this study was therefore to identify the incidence of COVID-19 post-operatively in patients undergoing elective cancer surgery of all types.

    Data were collected on all patients who had an elective therapeutic cancer operation in a single large district general hospital, where standard COVID-19 precautions were in place, between 01/02/2020 and 27/4/2020, Follow-up was for a minimum of 2weeks post-discharge. The primary outcome was the incidence of COVID-19 during the follow-up period.

    A total of 621 elective cancer surgeries, from a range of specialities, were performed during the study period, with 55% (n = 341) being done as day cases. None of the patients were positive for COVID-19 post-operatively using reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction testing.

    The risk of COVID-19 following elective cancer surgery in this group of high-risk patients appears to be minimal in this study. With further precautions being introduced to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, an increase in the rate of elective cancer surgery should be a current priority for all hospitals where possible.

In this study, we investigated its anti-inflammatory and anti-neuroinflammatory effects in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 and BV2 cells. In our initial study of the anti-inflammatory effects of cudraflavanone B the production of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 was attenuated in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 and BV2 cells. These inhibitory effects were related to the downregulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2. In addition, cudraflavanone B suppressed the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α in LPS-induced RAW264.7 and BV2 cells. Moreover, the evaluation of the molecular mechanisms underlying the anti-inflammatory effects of cudraflavanone B revealed that the compound attenuated the nuclear factor-kappa B signaling pathway in LPS-induced RAW264.7 and BV2 cells.   • MicroRNA-29a (miR-29a) has been shown to ameliorate hepatocellular damage, such as in the context of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), steatohepatitis (NASH), and cholestatic injury. However, the mechanism mediating the hepatoprotective effect of miR-29a in diet-induced NASH remains elusive. In the present study, C57BL/6 **** of wild-type (WT) or miR-29a overexpression were fed with methionine-choline sufficient (MCS) or methionine-choline-deficient (MCD) diet for four weeks.     MicroRNA-29a (miR-29a) has been shown to ameliorate hepatocellular damage, such as in the context of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), steatohepatitis (NASH), and cholestatic injury. However, the mechanism mediating the hepatoprotective effect of miR-29a in diet-induced NASH remains elusive. In the present study, C57BL/6 mice of wild-type (WT) or miR-29a overexpression were fed with methionine-choline sufficient (MCS) or methionine-choline-deficient (MCD) diet for four weeks. Here, we describe the design, synthesis and validation of heterobifunctional linkers that can be used for the preparation of ADCs with a DAR of two, three and four in a site-specific manner per single cysteine conjugation site, resulting in site-specific ADCs with a DAR of four, six and eight. The designed linkers carry a sulfhydryl-specific iodoacetyl reactive group, and multiple cyclic diene moieties which can efficiently react with maleimide-carrying payloads through the Diels-Alder reaction. As a proof of concept, we synthesized site-specific DAR four, six and eight ADCs carrying tubulysin (AZ13601508) using engineered antibodies with a cysteine inserted after position 239 in the antibody CH2 domain. A randomized pilot study was performed. Twelve children were randomly assigned to perform Conventional Mirror Therapy or Virtual Reality Mirror Therapy for four weeks.   • Diabetes exacerbates myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury by incompletely understood mechanisms. We explored whether diabetes diminished BAG3/Bcl-2/Nrf-2/HO-1-mediated cardioprotection and overproduced oxidative stress contributing to exaggerated IR injury. Streptozotocin-induced diabetes enhanced hyperglycemia, cardiac NADPH oxidase p22/p67 expression, malondialdehyde amount and leukocyte infiltration, altered the mesenteric expression of 4-HNE, CaSR, p-eNOS and BAG3 and impaired microvascular reactivity to the vasoconstrictor/vasodilator by a wire myography. However, decades of research have failed to fully explain the catalytic power of enzymes, and most of the current attempts to uncloak the details of atomic motions at active sites remain incomplete. Here, a straightforward manner for understanding the interplay between the complex or irregular enzyme topology and dynamical effects at catalytic sites is introduced, by revealing how fast localized vibrations form spontaneously in the stiffest parts of the scaffold. While shedding light on a physical mechanism that allowed the selection of the picosecond (ps) timescale to increase the catalytic proficiency, this approach exposes the functional importance of localized motions as a by-product of the stability-function tradeoff in enzyme evolution. From this framework of analysis-directly accessible from available diffraction data-experimental strategies for engineering the catalytic rate in enzymatic proteins are proposed.The purpose of this article is to evaluate the relationship between the nutrition-based microenvironment and clinicopathological information for gastric cancer patients and to investigate the prognostic value of nutrition index for gastric cancer patients undergoing total gastrectomy. Additionally, when age was considered as a stratified factor, univariate analyses demonstrated that low PNI correlated with shorter DFS in non-elderly ( less then  65) patients (p = 0.022) and shorter DFS (p = 0.036) and OS (p = 0.047) in elderly (≥ 65) patients. The low prognostic nutritional index is an independent risk factor associated with poor gastric cancer survival which represents the nutritional microenvironment. Here, we report the first measurement of shear modulus in human corneas in vivo using optical coherence elastography (OCE) based on surface elastic waves. In a pilot study of 12 healthy subjects aged between 25 and 67, the Rayleigh-wave speed was 7.86 ± 0.75 m/s, corresponding to a shear modulus of 72 ± 14 kPa. Our data reveal two unexpected trends no correlation was found between the wave speed and IOP between 13-18 mmHg, and shear modulus decreases with age (- 0.32 ± 0.17 m/s per decade). We propose that shear stiffness is governed by the interfibrillar matrix, whereas tensile strength is dominated by collagen fibrils. Rayleigh-wave OCE may prove useful for clinical diagnosis, refractive surgeries, and treatment monitoring.Virtual reality (VR) is a technology that is gaining traction in the consumer market. With it comes an unprecedented ability to track body motions. These body motions are diagnostic of personal identity, medical conditions, and mental states. Previous work has focused on the identifiability of body motions in idealized situations in which some action is chosen by the study designer. In contrast, our work tests the identifiability of users under typical VR viewing circumstances, with no specially designed identifying task. Out of a pool of 511 participants, the system identifies 95% of users correctly when trained on less than 5 min of tracking data per person. We argue these results show nonverbal data should be understood by the public and by researchers as personally identifying data.Vacancy-type defects in Mg-implanted GaN were probed by using a monoenergetic positron beam. Mg ions were implanted into GaN to obtain 0.3-μm-deep box profiles with Mg concentrations of 1 × 1019 cm-3. The major defect species in an as-implanted sample was determined to be Ga-vacancy related defects such as a complex between Ga and N vacancies. The sample was annealed under a nitrogen pressure of 1 GPa in a temperature range of 1000-1480 °C without a protective capping layer. Compared with the results for Mg-implanted GaN annealed with an AlN capping layer, the defect concentration was decreased by the cap-less annealing, suggesting that the surface of the sample was an effective sink for vacancies migrating toward the surface. Depth distributions of Mg after annealing above 1300 °C were influenced by the presence of residual vacancies at this temperature. Hydrogen atoms were unintentionally incorporated into the sample during annealing, and their diffusion properties were also affected by both vacancies and Mg.Maintaining a competent immune system is energetically costly and thus immunity may be traded against other costly traits such as seasonal migration. Additionally, when age was considered as a stratified factor, univariate analyses demonstrated that low PNI correlated with shorter DFS in non-elderly ( less then  65) patients (p = 0.022) and shorter DFS (p = 0.036) and OS (p = 0.047) in elderly (≥ 65) patients. The low prognostic nutritional index is an independent risk factor associated with poor gastric cancer survival which represents the nutritional microenvironment. Patients with low pre-operative prognostic nutritional index levels should be observed more closely after surgery to prevent the occurrence of post-operative complications in the near future.Corneal stiffness plays a critical role in shaping the cornea with respect to intraocular pressure and physical interventions. However, it remains difficult to measure the mechanical properties noninvasively. Here, we report the first measurement of shear modulus in human corneas in vivo using optical coherence elastography (OCE) based on surface elastic waves. In a pilot study of 12 healthy subjects aged between 25 and 67, the Rayleigh-wave speed was 7.86 ± 0.75 m/s, corresponding to a shear modulus of 72 ± 14 kPa. Our data reveal two unexpected trends no correlation was found between the wave speed and IOP between 13-18 mmHg, and shear modulus decreases with age (- 0.32 ± 0.17 m/s per decade). We propose that shear stiffness is governed by the interfibrillar matrix, whereas tensile strength is dominated by collagen fibrils. Rayleigh-wave OCE may prove useful for clinical diagnosis, refractive surgeries, and treatment monitoring.Virtual reality (VR) is a technology that is gaining traction in the consumer market. With it comes an unprecedented ability to track body motions. These body motions are diagnostic of personal identity, medical conditions, and mental states. Previous work has focused on the identifiability of body motions in idealized situations in which some action is chosen by the study designer. In contrast, our work tests the identifiability of users under typical VR viewing circumstances, with no specially designed identifying task. Out of a pool of 511 participants, the system identifies 95% of users correctly when trained on less than 5 min of tracking data per person. We argue these results show nonverbal data should be understood by the public and by researchers as personally identifying data.Vacancy-type defects in Mg-implanted GaN were probed by using a monoenergetic positron beam. Mg ions were implanted into GaN to obtain 0.3-μm-deep box profiles with Mg concentrations of 1 × 1019 cm-3. The major defect species in an as-implanted sample was determined to be Ga-vacancy related defects such as a complex between Ga and N vacancies. The sample was annealed under a nitrogen pressure of 1 GPa in a temperature range of 1000-1480 °C without a protective capping layer. Compared with the results for Mg-implanted GaN annealed with an AlN capping layer, the defect concentration was decreased by the cap-less annealing, suggesting that the surface of the sample was an effective sink for vacancies migrating toward the surface. Depth distributions of Mg after annealing above 1300 °C were influenced by the presence of residual vacancies at this temperature. Hydrogen atoms were unintentionally incorporated into the sample during annealing, and their diffusion properties were also affected by both vacancies and Mg.Maintaining a competent immune system is energetically costly and thus immunity may be traded against other costly traits such as seasonal migration. Here, we tested in long-distance migratory Nathusius' pipistrelles (Pipistrellus nathusii), if selected branches of immunity are expressed differently in response to the energy demands and oxidative stress of aerial migration. During the migration period, we observed higher baseline lymphocyte and lower neutrophil levels than during the pre-migration period, but no stronger response of cellular effectors to an antigen challenge. Baseline plasma haptoglobin, as a component of the humoral innate immunity, remained similar during both seasons, yet baseline plasma haptoglobin levels increased by a factor of 7.8 in migratory bats during an immune challenge, whereas they did not change during the pre-migration period. Oxidative stress was higher during migration than during pre-migration, yet there was no association between blood oxidative status and immune parameters, and immune challenge did not trigger any changes in oxidative stress, irrespective of season.
