Molecular cloning is the core of synthetic biology, as it comprises the assembly of DNA and its expression in target hosts. At present, however, cloning is most often a manual, time-consuming, and repetitive process that highly benefits from automation. The automation of a complete rational cloning procedure, i.e., from DNA creation to expression in the target host, involves the integration of different operations and machines. Examples of such workflows are sparse, especially when the design is rational (i.e., the DNA sequence design is fixed and not based on randomized libraries) and the target host is less genetically tractable (e.g., not sensitive to heat-shock transformation). In this study, an automated workflow for the rational construction of plasmids and their subsequent conjugative transfer into the biotechnological platform organism Corynebacterium glutamicum is presented. The whole workflow is accompanied by a custom-made software tool. As an application example, a rationally designed library of transcription factor-biosensors based on the regulator Lrp was constructed and characterized. However, dissolution of LNPs at a strongly alkaline pH or in common organic solvent systems has prevented their surface functionalization in a dispersion state as well as processing and applications that require maintaining the particle morphology under harsh conditions. Here, we report a simple method to stabilize LNPs through intraparticle cross-linking. Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE), a cross-linker that, like lignin, contains substituted benzene rings, is coprecipitated with softwood Kraft lignin to form hybrid LNPs (hy-LNPs). The hy-LNPs with a BADGE content ≤20 wt % could be intraparticle cross-linked in the dispersion state without altering their colloidal stability. Atomic force microscopy and quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring were used to show that the internally cross-linked particles were resistant to dissolution under strongly alkaline conditions and in acetone-water binary solvent that dissolved unmodified LNPs entirely. We further demonstrated covalent surface functionalization of the internally cross-linked particles at pH 12 through an epoxy ring-opening reaction to obtain particles with pH-switchable surface charge. Moreover, the hy-LNPs with BADGE content ≥30% allowed both inter- and intraparticle cross-linking at >150 °C, which enabled their application as waterborne wood adhesives with competitive dry/wet adhesive strength (5.4/3.5 MPa).Coral-like lanthanum manganese oxides (LayMnOx) with a hierarchical structure nanosphere were successfully prepared using a simple method, which presented a high-efficiency catalytic performance for toluene combustion. A series of in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy experiments for toluene adsorption were performed on the La0.08MnOx catalyst pretreated under different atmosphere conditions to investigate the role of oxygen species and the reaction processes. The results indicate that the abundant surface oxygen species over La0.08MnOx can make the rapid formation of benzoic acid species, further transfer into CO2 and H2O, which is considered as the key factor in the activation and oxidation of toluene.

Knowledge and acceptability are key factors for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use among women with a history of intimate partner violence (IPV) and research suggests that different types of IPV affect PrEP uptake differently. Few studies have examined whether the type (i.e., physical, sexual, and psychological) and timing (i.e., lifetime, past year) of IPV experiences are related to PrEP knowledge and acceptability, or whether gender roles and sexual risk behaviors affect PrEP use. We aimed to examine the associations between lifetime and past-year physical, sexual, and psychological IPV experiences on PrEP-related outcomes (i.e., knowledge, acceptability, sexual behavior if on PrEP) and the association between gender roles and PrEP-related outcomes. A total of 186 women of color at risk for HIV participated in this study, of whom 54% had ever experienced partner violence. Results showed that lifetime psychological (OR 3.0, 95% CI 1.1-9.4) and lifetime physical IPV (OR 5.5, 95% CI 1.2-18.9) were significantly associated with increased PrEP knowledge. lifetime psychological (OR 6.3, 95% CI 1.0-13.6) and lifetime physical IPV (OR 4.3, 95% CI 4.3-11.5) were significantly associated with increased sexual behavior if on PrEP. Factors associated with UHL included older age, male sex, white race, lower level of education, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and off-work noise exposure. Among adults with UHL, 40% (95% CI, 32%-48%) reported subjective trouble with hearing, a rate higher than the 12% (95% CI, 11%-14%) among normal-hearing adults. After adjusting for relevant factors, adults with UHL were more likely to report difficulties with following conversations with noise (odds ratio [OR], 1.7; 95% CI, 1.2-2.5) and frustration when talking to family and friends (OR, 3.0; 95% CI, 1.9-4.6). Higher levels of communication difficulties were observed with worsening level of UHL.
Adults with UHL report significant communication difficulties in comparison to normal-hearing adults. Further research is needed to understand the psychosocial impact of UHL on adults and ways to improve communication support for adults with UHL.

Acute spinal cord injury (ASCI) is a devastating event that can have a profound impact on the lives of patients and their families. While no definitive medical treatment exists, the role of methylprednisolone (MP) in the management of ASCI and other spinal cord pathologies has been investigated in depth; however, its use remains contentious. While MP initially showed promise in the efficacy of ASCI treatment, more recent studies have questioned its use citing numerous systemic adverse effects. Pharmacologic treatments in this area are poorly understood due to the scarcity of knowledge surrounding the pathophysiology and heterogeneity of patients presenting with these conditions. Despite these shortcomings and due to the lack of alternative treatment options, MP is still widely used by physicians.
We review prior and current literature on the use of MP treatment for ASCI patients with a discussion of novel drug delivery systems that have demonstrated the potential to improve MP's bioavailability at the site of injury while minimizing systemic side effects. In addition, current views on the role of MP and dexamethasone in metastatic spinal cord compression and postoperative infection are reviewed.
While some data support benefits in the use of steroids on spinal cord pathology, extensive research suggests at best limited effects and an unresolvable risk/benefit problem.

To assess trends in gender, racial, and ethnic diversity of applicant pools and subsequent resident cohorts in neurosurgical residency programs in the United States.
Applicant and residency data from 2009 to 2018 were analyzed from the Electronic Residency Application Service, Journal of the American Medical Association, and National Resident Matching Program to evaluate trends in diversity.
There was no statistically significant difference between applicant sex from 2009 to 2013 compared with 2014 to 2018 (P > 0.05). From 2009 to 2018, the percentage of female residents saw a statistically significant increase from 12.9% to 17.5% but remained less reflective of women's representativeness in the United States (50.8%). The percentage of Black and Hispanic applicants decreased across the observed period (4% and 1%, respectively). While Black people represented 5.2% of the resident pool in 2009, this decreased to 4.95% by 2018. Hispanic residents saw a <2% net increase (5.5% to 7.2%) in resident reprs known about the impact on women who also identify within racially underrepresented groups. More proactive measures for recruitment and retention are needed to reach equity in the future neurosurgical workforce.

Acute spinal cord injury (ASCI) is a devastating event that can have a profound impact on the lives of patients and their families. While no definitive medical treatment exists, the role of methylprednisolone (MP) in the management of ASCI and other spinal cord pathologies has been investigated in depth; however, its use remains contentious. While MP initially showed promise in the efficacy of ASCI treatment, more recent studies have questioned its use citing numerous systemic adverse effects. Pharmacologic treatments in this area are poorly understood due to the scarcity of knowledge surrounding the pathophysiology and heterogeneity of patients presenting with these conditions. Despite these shortcomings and due to the lack of alternative treatment options, MP is still widely used by physicians. We review prior and current literature on the use of MP treatment for ASCI patients with a discussion of novel drug delivery systems that have demonstrated the potential to improve MP's bioavailability at the site of injury while minimizing systemic side effects. In addition, current views on the role of MP and dexamethasone in metastatic spinal cord compression and postoperative infection are reviewed. Several serum biomarkers have been investigated for their potential as diagnostic tools in aortic disease; however, no study has investigated the association between serum biomarkers and outcomes after aortic surgery. This study explored the predictive ability of serum soluble lumican in postoperative outcomes after aortic surgery.
In total, 58 patients receiving aortic surgery for aortic dissection or aneurysm at Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan in December 2011-September 2018 were enrolled. Blood samples were collected immediately upon patients' arrival in the intensive care unit after aortic surgery. The diagnostic properties of soluble lumican levels were assessed by performing receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The confidence interval (CI) of the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was measured using DeLong's nonparametric method and the optimal cutoff was determined using the Youden index.
The serum soluble lumican level distinguished prolonged ventilation (AUC, 73.5%; 95% CI, 57.7%-89.3%) and hospital stay for >30 days (AUC, 78.2%; 95% CI, 61.6%-94.7%). The optimal cutoffs of prolonged ventilation and hospital stay for >30 days were 1.547 and 5.992 ng/mL, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity were respectively 100% (95% CI, 71.5%-100%) and 40.4% (95% CI, 26.4%-55.7%) for prolonged ventilation and 58% (95% 27.7%-84.8%) and 91.3% (95% CI, 79.2%-97.6%) for hospital stay for >30 days.

We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis and searched the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, Scopus, Web of Science, SinoMed, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang, and VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals databases from their inception through June 30, 2020. Studies with effective sample size of more than 1,000 and less than 3,000 had the highest prevalence of 30% (95% CI 24-35%, p<0.001). The prevalence of sleep disturbances was not affected by other factors.

High residual platelet reactivity (RPR) in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) receiving antiplatelet agents has been associated with a high risk of developing acute kidney injury (AKI).
This study aimed at identification of independent prognostic predictors of AKI risk in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) after PCI.
This was a prospective single-center clinical trial that included 155 patients (n = 119 without AKI, n = 36 with AKI, mean age 64.0±10.6 years, of whom 74.2% were males), who underwent PCI with stenting. We prospectively evaluated RPR using optical aggregometry. Development of AKI was the primary endpoint.

Metformin is proposed to have chemopreventive effect of various cancer currently. However, the anti-cancer effect of metformin for diabetic patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing liver resection remains unclear. The aim of our cohort study was to assess whether metformin influence the recurrence of HCC.
We retrospectively enrolled 857 HCC patients who received primary resection from April 2001 to June 2016. 222 patients were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM) from medical record. Factors influence the overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were analyzed by multivariate analysis.
During the follow-up period (mean, 75 months), 471 (54.9%) patients experienced recurrence, and 158 (18.4%) patients died. Multivariate analysis revealed that DM (p = 0.015), elevated AST (p = 0.006), hypoalbuminemia (p = 0.003), tumor number (p = 0.001), tumor size (p < 0.001), vascular invasion (p <0.001), high Ishak fibrosis score (p <0.001), hepatitis B (p = 0.014), hepatitis C ter initial resection. Hence, metformin may not have protective influences on HCC recurrence in diabetic patients who undergo initial liver resection.

The aim of this study was to summarize the current evidences available on the effectiveness of telemetric approaches in T1DM management. This systematic meta-review examined different types of interventions of the technologies used in communication between health care professionals and patients as well as the key outcomes.

Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, imposed citywide lockdown measures on January 23, 2020. Neighboring cities in Hubei Province followed suit with the government enforcing social distancing measures to restrict the spread of the disease throughout the province. Few studies have examined the emotional attitudes of citizens as expressed on social media toward the imposed social distancing measures and the factors that affected their emotions.
The aim of this study was twofold. First, we aimed to detect the emotional attitudes of different groups of users on Sina Weibo toward the social distancing measures imposed by the People's Government of Hubei Province. Second, the influencing factors of their emotions, as well as the impact of the imposed measures on users' emotions, was studied.

The Operating Room Black Box was developed to address the need for comprehensive assessments of clinical performance in the operating room. Adoption and evaluation of contact tracing tools based on information and communications technology may expand the reach and efficacy of traditional contact tracing methods in fighting COVID-19. The Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports initiated and developed CoronaMelder, a COVID-19 contact tracing app. This app is based on a Google/Apple Exposure Notification approach and aims to combat the spread of the coronavirus among individuals by notifying those who are at increased risk of infection due to proximity to someone who later tests positive for COVID-19. The app should support traditional contact tracing by faster tracing and greater reach compared to regular contact tracing procedures.
The main goal of this study is to investigate whether the CoronaMelder is able to support traditional contact tracing employed by public health authorities. To achieve this, usability tests were conducted to answer the following question is the CoronaMelder user-friendly, understandable, reliable and credible, orkers should be trained to effectively and empathetically instruct users on how to use the CoronaMelder app.
The study indicated that the CoronaMelder app is easy to use, but participants experienced misunderstandings about its functioning. The perceived lack of clarity led to misconceptions about the app, mostly regarding its usefulness and privacy-preserving mechanisms. Tailored and targeted communication through, for example, public campaigns or social media, is necessary to provide correct information about the app to residents in the Netherlands. Additionally, the app should be presented as part of the national coronavirus measures instead of as a stand-alone app offered to the public. Public health workers should be trained to effectively and empathetically instruct users on how to use the CoronaMelder app.
Traditionally, digital health data management has been based on electronic health record (EHR) systems and has been handled primarily by centralized health providers. New mechanisms are needed to give patients more control over their digital health data. Personal health libraries (PHLs) provide a single point of secure access to patients' digital health data and enable the integration of knowledge stored in their digital health profiles with other sources of global knowledge. PHLs can help empower caregivers and health care providers to make informed decisions about patients' health by understanding medical events in the context of their lives.

The aim of this study was to summarize the current evidences available on the effectiveness of telemetric approaches in T1DM management. This systematic meta-review examined different types of interventions of the technologies used in communication between health care professionals and patients as well as the key outcomes. Few studies have examined the emotional attitudes of citizens as expressed on social media toward the imposed social distancing measures and the factors that affected their emotions. The aim of this study was twofold. First, we aimed to detect the emotional attitudes of different groups of users on Sina Weibo toward the social distancing measures imposed by the People's Government of Hubei Province. Second, the influencing factors of their emotions, as well as the impact of the imposed measures on users' emotions, was studied. The Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports initiated and developed CoronaMelder, a COVID-19 contact tracing app. This app is based on a Google/Apple Exposure Notification approach and aims to combat the spread of the coronavirus among individuals by notifying those who are at increased risk of infection due to proximity to someone who later tests positive for COVID-19. The app should support traditional contact tracing by faster tracing and greater reach compared to regular contact tracing procedures. The main goal of this study is to investigate whether the CoronaMelder is able to support traditional contact tracing employed by public health authorities. To achieve this, usability tests were conducted to answer the following question is the CoronaMelder user-friendly, understandable, reliable and credible, orkers should be trained to effectively and empathetically instruct users on how to use the CoronaMelder app. The study indicated that the CoronaMelder app is easy to use, but participants experienced misunderstandings about its functioning. The perceived lack of clarity led to misconceptions about the app, mostly regarding its usefulness and privacy-preserving mechanisms. Tailored and targeted communication through, for example, public campaigns or social media, is necessary to provide correct information about the app to residents in the Netherlands. Additionally, the app should be presented as part of the national coronavirus measures instead of as a stand-alone app offered to the public. Public health workers should be trained to effectively and empathetically instruct users on how to use the CoronaMelder app. Traditionally, digital health data management has been based on electronic health record (EHR) systems and has been handled primarily by centralized health providers. New mechanisms are needed to give patients more control over their digital health data. Personal health libraries (PHLs) provide a single point of secure access to patients' digital health data and enable the integration of knowledge stored in their digital health profiles with other sources of global knowledge. PHLs can help empower caregivers and health care providers to make informed decisions about patients' health by understanding medical events in the context of their lives. This paper reports the implementation of a mobile health digital intervention that incorporates both digital health data stored in patients' PHLs and other sources of contextual knowledge to deliver tailored recommendations for improving self-care behaviors in diabetic adults. Background Kawasaki Disease (KD) is a pediatric vasculitis of which the pathogenesis is unclear. The hypothesis is that genetically pre-disposed children develop KD when they encounter a pathogen which remains most often unidentified or pathogen derived factors. Since age is a dominant factor, prior immune status in children could influence their reactivity and hence the acquisition of KD. We hypothesized that systemic immune responses early in life could protect against developing KD. With this study we tested whether the incidence of previous systemic cytomegalovirus (CMV) or Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection is lower in children with KD compared to healthy age-matched controls. Methods and Results We compared 86 KD patients with an age-matched control group regarding CMV and EBV VCA IgG measurements (taken before or 9 months after IVIG treatment). We found that both CMV and EBV had an almost 2-fold lower seroprevalence in the KD population than in the control group. Methods Contrast passage rate was evaluated using serial abdominal X-ray imaging on postnatal day 4 and 18 in preterm and near-term piglets fed infant formula, colostrum or intact bovine milk, with or without added fortifier (total n = 140). Results Preterm piglets had a faster small intestinal passage rate of contrast solution at day 4 of life than near-term piglets (SIEmpty, hazard ratio (HR) 0.52, 95%CI [0.15, 0.88], p less then 0.01). Formula fed piglets at day 4 had a faster passage rate of contrast to caecum (ToCecum, HR 0.61, 95%CI [0.25,0.96], p = 0.03), and through the colon region (CaecumToRectum, p less then 0.05, day 4) than colostrum fed preterm piglets. The time for contrast to leave the stomach, and passage through the colon in day 4 preterm piglets were slower than in older piglets at day 18 (both, p less then 0.05). Adding a nutrient fortifier increased body growth, gastric residuals, intestinal length and weight, but did not affect any of the observed passage rates of the contrast solution. Conclusion Serial X-ray contrast imaging is a feasible method to assess food passage rate in preterm piglets. Multiple regression analyses were performed to assess the association between IPs with WMI and then with BSITD-III scores at 24 months corrected age (CA). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate the predictive value of pl-IPs for the development of WMI. Results Forty-four patients were included. cb-IPs were not correlated with WMI score at TEA, whereas higher pl-IPs and lower GA predicted higher WMI score (p = 0.037 and 0.006, respectively) after controlling for GA, FiO2 at sampling and severity of IVH. The area under the curve was 0.72 (CI 95% = 0.51-0.92). The pl-IPs levels plotted curve indicated that 31.8 pg/ml had the best predictive threshold with a sensitivity of 86% and a specificity of 60%, to discriminate newborns with any WMI from newborns without WMI. IPs were not associated with outcome at 24 months. Prediction models were evaluated at various timepoints during hospitalization which could be useful in the management of these infants. Study Design We studied all preterm infants with CCHD who received OHS within 6 weeks of corrected age between 1996 and 2016. The Western Canadian Complex Pediatric Therapies Follow-up Program completed multidisciplinary comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments at 2-year corrected age at the referral-site follow-up clinics. We collected demographic and acute-care clinical data, standardized age-appropriate outcome measures including physical growth with cal[OR 1.06(1.02,1.09), P = 0.007], and cardiopulmonary resuscitation [OR 11.58 (1.97,68.24), P = 0.007]; for adverse functional outcome in those without syndromic diagnoses, birth weight 2,000-2,499 g [ES -11.60(-18.67, -4.53), P = 0.002], post-conceptual age [ES -0.11(-0.22,0.00), P = 0.044], post-operative lowest pH [ES 6.75(1.25,12.25), P = 0.017], and sepsis [ES -9.70(-17.74, -1.66), P = 0.050]. Conclusions Our findings suggest preterm neonates with CCHD and early OHS had significant mortality and morbidity at 2-years and were at risk for cerebral palsy and adverse neurodevelopment. This information may be important for management, parental counseling and the decision-making process.

Seventy-two standard deviation rats that received phenylephrine eye drops and intravenous atropine treatment under general anesthesia were assessed, of which 18 treated with these drugs simultaneously were administered normal saline, neostigmine or esmolol. Blood pressure and heart rate were recorded and analyzed. It has been used to treat gastrointestinal disease for centuries. In the present study, the potential mechanisms of XLP in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) were predicted by integrative pharmacology-based approach. Then, the main compounds of XLP were detected by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Finally, we verified the mechanism of XLP in the treatment of UC in a dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) model. C57BL/6 **** were randomly divided into the control group, DSS group, 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) group which was used as the positive drug control, XLP low, medium, and high dose group, with 10 **** per group. Except for the control group, acute colitis model was induced in the other **** by administering 3% DSS for consecutive 7 days. **** in 5-ASA and XLP groups were administered with 5-ASA (50 mg/kg) or XLP (0.8, 1.6, 3.2 g/kg) via oral gavage once per day respectively. In this study, the differentially expressed genes, proteins, and pathways of IPF in the Gene Expression Omnibus database were analyzed, and CAT was molecularly docked with the corresponding key proteins to screen its pharmacological targets, which were then verified using an animal model. The results show that collagen metabolism imbalance, inflammatory response, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) are the core processes in IPF, and the TGF-β1/Smad3 and Wnt/β-catenin pathways are the key signaling pathways for the development of pulmonary fibrosis. Our results also suggest that CAT binds to TGF-βR1, Smad3, Wnt3a, and GSK-3β through hydrogen bonds, van der Waals bonds, and other interactions to downregulate the expression and phosphorylation of Smad3, Wnt3a, GSK-3β, and β-catenin, inhibit the expression of cytokines, and reduce the degree of oxidative stress in lung tissue.

Except for the control group, acute colitis model was induced in the other mice by administering 3% DSS for consecutive 7 days. Mice in 5-ASA and XLP groups were administered with 5-ASA (50 mg/kg) or XLP (0.8, 1.6, 3.2 g/kg) via oral gavage once per day respectively. Three QTLs, designated as QYr.AYH-1AS, QYr.AYH-5BL, and QYr.AYH-7DS, were mapped on chromosome 1AS, 5BL, and 7DS, respectively. RILs combining three QTLs showed significantly lower FDS compared with the lines in other combinations. Of them, QYr.AYH-5BL and QYr.AYH-7DS were stably detected in all environments, explaining 13.6 to 21.4% and 17.6 to 33.6% of phenotypic variation, respectively. Compared with previous studies, QYr.AYH-5BL may be a new QTL, whereas QYr.AYH-7DS may be Yr18. Haplotype analysis revealed that QYr.AYH-5BL is probably present in 6.2% of the 323 surveyed Chinese wheat landraces. Survey participants were in favor of scouting and surveying for HLB symptoms, but they were reluctant to test trees, use early detection technologies (EDTs), and install barriers around citrus groves. Most practices were perceived as complementary, particularly visual inspections and some combinations of preventive practices with tests and EDTs. Participants who felt more vulnerable to HLB had a higher propensity to adopt several practices, as did those who intended to stay informed and communicate with the coordinators of the HLB control program, although this effect was modulated by the perceived vulnerability to HLB. Communication with neighbors and the size of citrus operations also influenced practice adoption. During the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for telehealth services such as tele-ophthalmology, is increasing rapidly.Methods In 2019, the agreement between diagnostic tests was investigated by comparing the diagnostic performance for eye posterior pole pathologies of the images obtained by a smartphone coupled to a medical device known as open retinoscope (OR), handled by a nurse and subsequently assessed by an ophthalmologist versus the images obtained by an ophthalmologist using a slit lamp associated to a 76 diopter indirect ophthalmic lens (Volk Super FieldVR ) (SL-IOL) at the outpatient department of a hospital. The OR used in this study worked with a 28 diopter indirect lens.Results An examination of 151 dilated eyes (79 adult patients, mean age of 66.7 years, 59.5% women) was conducted. Sensitivity was 98.9%, specificity was 89.8%, the positive predictive value was 93.8% and the negative predictive value was 98.2%. The kappa index between both tests was 0.90 (95% CI 0.83-0.97) in basic diagnosis, 0.81 (95% CI 0.74-0.89) in syndromic diagnosis (13 categories) and 0.70 (95% CI 0.62-0.77) in advanced diagnosis (23 categories).Discussion Images obtained by a nurse using a smartphone coupled to the OR and subsequently assessed by an ophthalmologist showed a high diagnostic performance for eye posterior pole pathologies, which could pave the way for remote ophthalmology systems for this patient group.

Immediately following behavioral testing, serum was collected, and plasma corticosterone levels were measured. MA-exposed **** showed increased locomotor activity and anxiety-like behavior compared to saline controls, regardless of age and dose of MA. However, adolescent **** showed the greatest locomotor response to the high dose of MA (4 mg/kg), whereas the adult **** showed the greatest locomotor response to the low dose of MA (2 mg/kg). There were no differences in stereotyped behavior between the adolescent and adult **** exposed to the low dose of MA (2 mg/kg) and the high dose of MA (4 mg/kg). There was no effect of MA exposure on plasma corticosterone levels. These data suggest age modulates the locomotor response to MA and further research is warranted to determine the developmental neurobiological mechanism underlying the dose-response age differences in the response to acute MA exposure.
There have been few reports regarding the association between 1h-PG concentration and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the elderly. This study was performed to assess the efficacy of 1h-PG and 2h-PG values in predicting future risk of T2DM in elderly.

C-statistics for 1-h PG (C-statistics 0.794 [95% CI 0.765-0.823]) was significantly greater than that for 2-h PG (C-statistic 0.747 [95% CI 0.716-0.779]) in models adjusting for various traditional risk factors. 1h-PG had the greatest area under the ROC curve (AUC, 0.766), which was greater than that of 2h-PG (0.719).

Artificial light at night (ALAN) is an environmental perturbation known to severely impact the fitness of adult insects by disrupting both temporal and spatial orientation. The impact of ALAN on earlier life stages, however, is largely unknown. We conducted a series of laboratory experiments to investigate how two distinct forms of ALAN affect the development and movement of immature Photuris sp. and Photinus obscurellus fireflies. Although long-term exposure to dim light at night (dLAN), akin to urban skyglow, did not impact overall survivorship or duration of egg, larval, and pupal stages in either species, it did accelerate weight gain in early-instar Photuris larvae. Late-instar Photuris exposed to point sources of ALAN at the start of their nightly foraging period were also significantly more likely to burrow beneath the soil surface, rather than disperse across it. ALAN may therefore impede dispersal of firefly larvae away from illuminated areas, which could have downstream consequences for the reproductive fitness of adults.

To evaluate the literature available on the anti-inflammatory properties of spices which might prove beneficial in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 associated cytokine storm.
