How hummingbirds hum is not fully understood, but its biophysical origin is encoded in the acoustic nearfield. Hence, we studied six freely hovering Anna's hummingbirds, performing acoustic nearfield holography using a 2176 microphone array in vivo, while also directly measuring the 3D aerodynamic forces using a new aerodynamic force platform. We corroborate the acoustic measurements by developing an idealized acoustic model that integrates the aerodynamic forces with wing kinematics, which shows how the timbre of the hummingbird's hum arises from the oscillating lift and drag forces on each wing. Comparing birds and insects, we find that the characteristic humming timbre and radiated power of their flapping wings originates from the higher harmonics in the aerodynamic forces that support their bodyweight. Our model analysis across insects and birds shows that allometric deviation makes larger birds quieter and elongated flies louder, while also clarifying complex bioacoustic behavior.Tissue homeostasis requires long-term lineage fidelity of somatic stem cells. We further confirm that Pc-mediated chromatin regulation is a critical determinant of EE cell specification in the Drosophila intestine. Pc is required to maintain expression of stem cell genes while ensuring repression of differentiation and specification genes. Strains HME9299T, HMF7410T and HMF7856T exhibited the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of 97.2, 94.4 and 96.4 % to Mucilaginibacter daejeonensis Jip 10T, Mucilaginibacter terrae CCM 8645T and Mucilaginibacter phyllosphaerae PP-F2F-G21T, respectively. Among themselves, the values were 94.1-95.7 %. The predominant fatty acids of three strains were summed feature 3 (comprising C16 1 ω7c and/or C16 1 ω6c) and iso-C15 0. Strain HME9299T contained a relatively large amount of C16 1 ω5c. The predominant respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7. The genome sizes of strains HME9299T, HMF7410T and HMF7856T were 4.33, 4.

Two years after the clinical signs started, the dog presented with signs of sepsis and died. Histopathologically, no granulomatous inflammation could be demonstrated in either muscles or nerves at that time.
This case illustrates a granulomatous interstitial polymyositis and intramuscular neuritis that improved clinically and resolved histologically with glucocorticoid treatment. Idiopathic granulomatous myositis and neuritis should be considered as a differential diagnosis in dogs with clinical signs of neuromuscular disorders.

Studies of shifts in microbial community composition has many applications. For studies at species or subspecies levels, the 16S amplicon sequencing lacks resolution and is often replaced by full shotgun sequencing. Due to higher costs, this restricts the number of samples sequenced. As an alternative to a full shotgun sequencing we have investigated the use of Reduced Metagenome Sequencing (RMS) to estimate the composition of a microbial community. This involves the use of double-digested restriction-associated DNA sequencing, which means only a smaller fraction of the genomes are sequenced. The read sets obtained by this approach have properties different from both amplicon and shotgun data, and analysis pipelines for both can either not be used at all or not explore the full potential of RMS data.
We suggest a procedure for analyzing such data, based on fragment clustering and the use of a constrained ordinary least square de-convolution for estimating the relative abundance of all community members. Mequencing when it comes to resolving microbial communities at the strain level. Like shotgun metagenomics, it requires a good database of reference genomes and is well suited for studies of the human gut or other communities where many reference genomes exist. To evaluate the role of multi-slice spiral computed tomography (****) angiography in the diagnosis of spontaneous isolated visceral artery dissection (SIVAD).
Twenty-seven patients with abdominal SIVAD were included in the study. The **** scans of the patients were subjected to various post-processing techniques to visualize the visceral artery wall. Clinical features including arterial dissection, thrombosis, dissection length, true/false lumen, and complications were recorded.
Type I, IIa, and IIb SIVADs were observed in 11, 6, and 10 patients, respectively. Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare, acute and potentially fatal skin condition usually induced by drugs. Although **** attention is focused on the life threatening acute cutaneous and sight threatening ocular manifestations of this disease, chronic pulmonary complications like bronchiolitis obliterans are occasionally encountered. However, little is known about its incidence, pathogenesis, clinical course and outcome in children recovering from TEN.
We report a five-year-old boy who presented four months after the first manifestation of drug-induced TEN with cough and shortness of breath and was subsequently diagnosed with bronchiolitis obliterans. He was treated with supportive therapy that improved his hypercapnia allowing him to be discharged on domiciliary oxygen, chest physiotherapy and bronchodilators.
This case highlights the need to be vigilant for adverse drug reactions and consider chronic pulmonary complications like Bronchiolitis Obliterans in children recovering from TEN.

The cell walls are biomacromolecular assemblies defined by a fine arrangement of different classes of polysaccharides, proteoglycans, and aromatic polymers and are one of the most complex structures in Nature. One of the most challenging tasks of cell biology and biomass biotechnology research is to image the structure and organization of this complex matrix, as well as to visualize the compartmentalized, multiplayer biosynthetic machineries that build the elaborate cell wall architecture. Better knowledge of the plant cells, cell walls, and whole tissue is essential for bioengineering efforts and for designing efficient strategies of industrial deconstruction of the cell wall-derived biomass and its saccharification. Cell wall-directed molecular probes and analysis by light microscopy, which is capable of imaging with a high level of specificity, little sample processing, and often in real time, are important tools to understand cell wall assemblies. This review provides a comprehensive overview about the possibilities for fluorescence label-based imaging techniques and a variety of probing methods, discussing both well-established and emerging tools. Examples of applications of these tools are provided. We also list and discuss the advantages and limitations of the methods. Specifically, we elaborate on what are the most important considerations when applying a particular technique for plants, the potential for future development, and how the plant cell wall field might be inspired by advances in the biomedical and general cell biology fields.

High levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in tumors have been shown to exert anti-tumor activity, leading to the concept of ROS induction as therapeutic strategy. The organometallic compound ferrocene (Fc) generates ROS through a reversible one-electron oxidation. Incorporation of Fc into a tumor-targeting, bioactive molecule can enhance its therapeutic activity and enable tumor specific delivery. Therefore, we conjugated Fc to five synthetic, Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD)-based integrin binding ligands to enable targeting of the cell adhesion and signaling receptor integrin subtypes αvβ3, α5β1, or αvβ6, which are overexpressed in various, distinct tumors. We designed and synthesized a library of integrin-ligand-ferrocene (ILF) derivatives and showed that ILF conjugates maintained the high integrin affinity and selectivity of their parent ligands. A thorough biological characterization allowed us to identify the two most promising ligands, an αvβ3 (L2b) and an αvβ6 (L3b) targeting ILF, which displayed selective integrin-dependent cell uptake and pronounced ferrocene-mediated anti-tumor effects in vitro, along with increased ROS production and DNA damage. Hence, ILFs are promising candidates for the selective, tumor-targeted delivery of ferrocene to maximize its anti-cancer efficacy and minimize systemic toxicity, thereby improving the therapeutic window of ferrocene compared to currently used non-selective anti-cancer drugs.Afforestation/reforestation (A/R) programs spearheaded by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) play a significant role in reaching global climate policy targets and helping low-income nations meet the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, these organizations face unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, these challenges affect their ability to address issues associated with deforestation and forest degradation in a timely manner. We discuss the influence COVID-19 can have on previous, present and future A/R initiatives, in particular, the ones led by International Non-governmental Organizations (INGOs). We provide thirty-three recommendations for exploring underlying deforestation patterns and optimizing forest policy reforms to support forest cover expansion during the pandemic. The recommendations are classified into four groups - i) curbing deforestation and improving A/R, ii) protecting the environment and mitigating climate change, iii) enhancing socio-economic conditions, and iv) amending policy and law enforcement practices.The shorelines frequently suffer adverse impacts from oil spill accidents. As one important technique of shoreline cleanup, the application of surface washing agents (SWAs) can help achieve high oil removal from shoreline substrates with less damage to affected zone. In this study, a framework for evaluation and selection of SWAs in oil spill incidents was constructed to better understand and apply this technique. A decision tree was firstly developed to illustrate all possible scenarios which are appropriate to use SWAs in consideration of oil collectability, shoreline character, types and amount of stranded oil, and cleanup requirement. Based on literature review, theoretical modeling, and experts' suggestions, an integrated multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) method was then come up to select the most preferred SWA from five aspects of toxicity, effectiveness, minimal dispersion, demonstrated field test, and cost. Its suitability and rationality were proved by a hypothetical case. High levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in tumors have been shown to exert anti-tumor activity, leading to the concept of ROS induction as therapeutic strategy. The organometallic compound ferrocene (Fc) generates ROS through a reversible one-electron oxidation. Incorporation of Fc into a tumor-targeting, bioactive molecule can enhance its therapeutic activity and enable tumor specific delivery. Therefore, we conjugated Fc to five synthetic, Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD)-based integrin binding ligands to enable targeting of the cell adhesion and signaling receptor integrin subtypes αvβ3, α5β1, or αvβ6, which are overexpressed in various, distinct tumors. We designed and synthesized a library of integrin-ligand-ferrocene (ILF) derivatives and showed that ILF conjugates maintained the high integrin affinity and selectivity of their parent ligands. A thorough biological characterization allowed us to identify the two most promising ligands, an αvβ3 (L2b) and an αvβ6 (L3b) targeting ILF, which displayed selective integrin-dependent cell uptake and pronounced ferrocene-mediated anti-tumor effects in vitro, along with increased ROS production and DNA damage. The exact motion of the bowel and dosimetric effects of its motion are yet uncharted territories in radiotherapy. In diagnostic radiology methods on the acquisition of dynamic MRI sequences were developed for bowel motility visualization and quantification. Our study aim was to develop an imaging technique based on three-dimensional (3D) cine-MRI to visualize and quantify bowel motion and demonstrate it in a cohort of gynecological cancer patients.
We developed an MRI acquisition suitable for 3D bowel motion quantification, namely a balanced turbo field echo sequence (TE=1.39ms, TR=2.8sed in further studies to determine the effect of radiotherapy on bowel motion and to find the relation with dose effects to the small bowel. This paradigm is slowly changing, as the pressing need for low-carbon electricity generation and ongoing efforts to develop modular nuclear and carbon capture technologies have opened the door for potentially wider markets, including in nations without substantial institutional capacity. Here, using advanced nuclear technologies as our testbed, we develop new methods to evaluate national readiness for deploying complex energy infrastructure. Specifically, we use Data Envelopment Analysis-a method that eliminates the need for expert judgment-to benchmark performance across nations. We find that approximately 80% of new nuclear deployment occurs in nations that are in the top two quartiles of institutional and economic performance. However, 85% of potential low-carbon electricity demand growth is in nations that are in the bottom two quartiles of performance. We offer iconic paradigms for deploying nuclear power in each of these clusters of nations if the goal is to mitigate risk. Our research helps redouble efforts by industry, regulators, and international development agencies to focus on areas where readiness is low and risk correspondingly higher.

Finally, we expect conserved community structure throughout the host range. We aim to test these expectations, derived from population genetic and community studies, using the multi-trophic insect community associated with Ficus hirta throughout its 3,500 km range across continental and insular Asia.

In this study, we employed 3D optical measuring digital image correlation (DIC) to systematically measure the full strain field and local strain during the whole tensile process, and calculate the real-time strain and actual flow stress in the necking region of ultrafine-grained (UFG) Ti. The post-necking elongation and strain hardening exponent of the UFG Ti necking part were then measured as 36% and 0.101, slightly smaller than those of the coarse grained Ti (52% and 0.167), suggesting the high plastic deformability in the necking part of the UFG Ti. Finite elemental modeling (FEM) indicates that when necking occurs, strain is concentrated in the necking region. The stress state of the necking part was transformed from uniaxial in the uniform elongation stage to a triaxial stress state. A scanning electron microscopic (SEM) study revealed the shear and ductile fracture, as well as numerous micro shear bands in the UFG Ti, which are controlled by cooperative grain boundary sliding. The study comprised 17 females performing this sports discipline. The players were randomly divided into two groups with plyometric training (PLY) and the control (CON). All players followed the same training program, but the PLY group also performed plyometric exercises. Tests used to evaluate physical performance were carried out immediately before and after PLY. After implementing the short PLY training, significant improvement in jump performance (squat jump p = 0.04, ES = 0.48, countermovement jump p = 0.009, ES = 0.42) and agility (p = 0.003, ES = 0.7) was noted in the PLY group. In the CON group, no significant (p > 0.05) changes in physical performance were observed. In contrast, PLY did not improve repeated sprint performance (p > 0.05) among female soccer players. A psychosocial walk-in clinic operating within a state reception and registration center in Germany has been supporting mentally burdened refugees since 2016. This study focused on patients' perspectives on their mental health burden, the psychosocial walk-in clinic, and future help seeking. We conducted interviews with n = 22 refugees attending the walk-in clinic from March to May 2019. Qualitative analysis focused on the following four topics (1) mental burden from the patients' perspective, (2) access to the psychosocial walk-in clinic, (3) perception of counseling sessions, and (4) perception of follow-up treatment. The results show that the majority of interviewees were burdened by psychological and somatic complaints, mostly attributed to past experiences and post-migratory stress. Therapeutic counseling and psychiatric medication were found to be particularly helpful. Most of the participants felt motivated to seek further psychosocial support. Key barriers to seeking psychosocial help included shame, fear of stigma, and lack of information. Overall, the psychosocial walk-in clinic is a highly valued support service for newly arrived refugees with mental health issues.

In this study, we employed 3D optical measuring digital image correlation (DIC) to systematically measure the full strain field and local strain during the whole tensile process, and calculate the real-time strain and actual flow stress in the necking region of ultrafine-grained (UFG) Ti. The post-necking elongation and strain hardening exponent of the UFG Ti necking part were then measured as 36% and 0.101, slightly smaller than those of the coarse grained Ti (52% and 0.167), suggesting the high plastic deformability in the necking part of the UFG Ti. Finite elemental modeling (FEM) indicates that when necking occurs, strain is concentrated in the necking region. The stress state of the necking part was transformed from uniaxial in the uniform elongation stage to a triaxial stress state. A scanning electron microscopic (SEM) study revealed the shear and ductile fracture, as well as numerous micro shear bands in the UFG Ti, which are controlled by cooperative grain boundary sliding. Our work revealed the large plastic deformability of UFG metals in the necking region under a complex stress state.The deubiquitinating enzyme (DUB) UCHL1 is implicated in various disease states including neurodegenerative disease and cancer. The study comprised 17 females performing this sports discipline. The players were randomly divided into two groups with plyometric training (PLY) and the control (CON). All players followed the same training program, but the PLY group also performed plyometric exercises. Tests used to evaluate physical performance were carried out immediately before and after PLY. After implementing the short PLY training, significant improvement in jump performance (squat jump p = 0.04, ES = 0.48, countermovement jump p = 0.009, ES = 0.42) and agility (p = 0.003, ES = 0.7) was noted in the PLY group. In the CON group, no significant (p > 0.05) changes in physical performance were observed. In contrast, PLY did not improve repeated sprint performance (p > 0.05) among female soccer players. A psychosocial walk-in clinic operating within a state reception and registration center in Germany has been supporting mentally burdened refugees since 2016. This study focused on patients' perspectives on their mental health burden, the psychosocial walk-in clinic, and future help seeking. We conducted interviews with n = 22 refugees attending the walk-in clinic from March to May 2019. Qualitative analysis focused on the following four topics (1) mental burden from the patients' perspective, (2) access to the psychosocial walk-in clinic, (3) perception of counseling sessions, and (4) perception of follow-up treatment. The results show that the majority of interviewees were burdened by psychological and somatic complaints, mostly attributed to past experiences and post-migratory stress. Therapeutic counseling and psychiatric medication were found to be particularly helpful. Most of the participants felt motivated to seek further psychosocial support. Key barriers to seeking psychosocial help included shame, fear of stigma, and lack of information. Physical therapy (PT) rehabilitation is critical to successful outcomes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Later-stage rehabilitation, including sport-specific exercises, is increasingly recognized for restoring high-level knee function. However, supervised PT visits have historically been concentrated during the early stages of recovery after ACLR.
To assess the number and temporal utilization of PT visits after ACLR in a national cohort. We hypothesized that PT visits would be concentrated early in the postoperative period.
Descriptive epidemiological study.
The Humana PearlDiver database was searched to identify patients who underwent ACLR between 2007 and 2017. Patients with additional structures treated were excluded. The mean ± SD, median and interquartile range (IQR), and range of number of PT visits for each patient were determined for the 52 weeks after ACLR. PT visits over time were also assessed in relation to patient age and sex.
In total, 11,518 patients who underwent ACLR met the inclusion criteria; the mean age was 32.

This study aimed at investigating 1) the relationship between self-care agency and depression and anxiety; 2) the sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with depression and anxiety in patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) in China.
A cross-sectional study was conducted. One-hundred and five patients with DR were recruited. Self-care agency was assessed by the exercise of self-care agency (ESCA) scale. Depression and anxiety were assessed by the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS-D and HADS-A). Pearson or Spearman correlations were performed to assess the association between self-care agency and depression and anxiety. Stepwise multivariate linear regression analyses were conducted to assess the contribution of the sociodemographic and clinical factors to depression and anxiety.
Thirty-six (34.3%) and 43 (41.1%) patients exhibited depressive and anxiety symptoms, respectively. Only 24 (22.9%) patients showed a high self-care agency. The ESCA total and subscale scores were negatively are agency and depression and anxiety.
To evaluate the perinatal outcomes in women with complicated monochorionic diamniotic twins who underwent selective reduction using radiofrequency ablation (RFA).
This retrospective study included patients with complicated monochorionic diamniotic twins between 16 to 28 weeks who underwent selective reduction using RFA.
During the study period, 143 women with complicated monochorionic twins underwent RFA including 52 with selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR), 48 with twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), 33 with major fetal anomalies in one of the twins, and 10 with reversed arterial perfusion sequence (TRAP). The overall survival was 71.3% (102/143). The procedures were technically successful in achieving selective termination in all cases. The mean ± SD of gestational age at the time of the procedure was 21.0 ± 2.3 weeks. The mean ± SD of gestational age at delivery was 34.6 ± 3.3 weeks. The mean ± SD of overall procedure-to-delivery time was 12 ± 1.7 weeks. The pregnancy success rates among sFGR, TRAP, TTTS and anomaly groups were 82.7, 80, 73 and 60.7% respectively. There were no maternal complications.

Cronbach's alpha was calculated to validate internal consistency. Influences of masculinity (MAS), power distance (PD) and uncertainty avoidance (UA) were determined by linear regression analysis in a general model and subgroup models.
A total of 1322 surveys were included in the analysis (1093 breast- and 348 prostate cancer patients). Cronbach's aerall ECCQI scores the questionnaire showed discriminative value. This study showed a positive correlation of power distance and a negative correlation for uncertainty avoidance in some countries. When using the ECCQI for international benchmarking these two dimensions of culture should be taken into account.

Phthirus pubis is an obligate parasite of human beings. Demodex spp. is a **** more common parasite of human beings. However, P. pubis infestation accompanied by Demodex mite infestation in eye has not been reported.
We report the first case of Phthirus pubis and Demodex co-infestation on a 48-years-old woman. She presented to the hospital with itching and burning at her right eye for 2 weeks. Slit lamp examination revealed multiple nits and adults of P. pubis anchored to both upper and lower eyelashes. Eyelashes were trimmed, moxifloxacin eye ointment and fluorometholone eye drops were initiated daily. However, itching didn't improve after 2 weeks of treatment. Light microscopy examination of eyelashes revealed infestation with Demodex. The patient was treated with lid scrubs with 25% tea tree oil daily for 4 weeks and was completely cured.
Our report shows the importance of an early and comprehensive diagnosis, because both phthiriasis palpebrarum and demodicosis can be confused with blepharitis.

Zygomatic implants have been proposed in literature for atrophic maxillary fixed oral rehabilitations. The aim of the present research was to evaluate, by a clinical and tomography assessment, a surgical complication of a zygomatic implant penetration to the orbit.
A 56 year-old female patient was visited for pain and swelling in the left orbit after a zygomatic implant protocol. The orbit invasion of the zygomatic implant screw was confirmed by the CBCT scan. The patient was treated for surgical implant removal and the peri- and post-operative symptoms were assessed. No neurological complications were reported at the follow-up. The ocular motility and the visual acuity were well maintained. No purulent secretion or inflammatory evidence were reported in the post-operative healing phases.
The penetration of the orbit during a zygomatic implant positioning is a surgical complication that could compromise the sight and movements of the eye. In the present case report, a zygomatic implant removal resulted in an uneventful healing phase with recovery of the eye functions.

A 56 year-old female patient was visited for pain and swelling in the left orbit after a zygomatic implant protocol. The orbit invasion of the zygomatic implant screw was confirmed by the CBCT scan. The patient was treated for surgical implant removal and the peri- and post-operative symptoms were assessed. No neurological complications were reported at the follow-up. The ocular motility and the visual acuity were well maintained. No purulent secretion or inflammatory evidence were reported in the post-operative healing phases. The penetration of the orbit during a zygomatic implant positioning is a surgical complication that could compromise the sight and movements of the eye. Sleep disturbances and cognitive decline are common in older adults. We aimed to investigate the effects of the total sleep time (TST) and sleep-wake rhythm on executive function and working memory in older adults. In 63 older participants, we measured the TST, wake after sleep onset (WASO), and sleep timing (midpoint between bedtime and wake-up time) using actigraphy. Executive function was evaluated with the trail making test B (TMT-B) and Wisconsin card sorting test (WCST). The number of **** task (N-**** task) was used to measure working memory. Participants with a TST ≥ 8 h had a significantly lower percentage of correct answers (% correct) on the 1-**** task than those with a TST less then 8 h. The % correct on the 1-**** task was significantly correlated with the TST, WASO, and sleep timing. Multiple regression analyses revealed that the TST and sleep timing were significant factors of the % correct on the 1-**** task. The TMT-B score was significantly correlated with the sleep timing. Category achievement on the WCST was significantly correlated with the standard deviation of the sleep timing. This conjugation method provides dual functionalization to the VLPs, first, a 2 kDa PEG spacer arm shields VLPs from immune reactivity, and second, attachment of the tumor homing peptide tLyP-1 chauffeurs the encapsulated hydrophobic drugs to target cells. The fortuitous affinity of the FHV capsid towards hydrophobic molecules, and dependence on Ca2+ for maintaining a stable capsid shell, were utilized for incorporation of hydrophobic drugs-doxorubicin and ellipticine-in tLyP-1 conjugated VLPs. The drug release profile from the VLP was observed to be gradual, and strictly endosomal pH dependent. We present a fully reproducible analysis of temporal trends in NHS Pathways reports until 14th May 2020, nationally and regionally, and demonstrate that rates of growth/decline and effective reproduction number estimated from these data may be useful in monitoring transmission. This is a particularly pressing issue as lockdown restrictions begin to be lifted and evidence of disease resurgence must be constantly reassessed. We further assess the correlation between NHS Pathways reports and a publicly available NHS dataset of COVID-19-associated deaths in England, finding that enquiries to 111/999 were strongly associated with daily deaths reported 16 days later.

To explore Registered Nurses' experiences and perceptions with National Early Warning Score and Individual Early Warning Score to identify patient deterioration.
A qualitative exploratory design.
Six focus groups were conducted at six Danish hospitals from February to June 2019. Registered Nurses from both medical, surgical and emergency departments participated. The focus groups were analysed using content analysis.
One theme and four categories were identified. Theme Meaningful in identifying patient deterioration but causing frustration due to lack of flexibility. Categories (a) Inter-professional collaboration strengthened through the use of Early Warning Score systems, (b) Enhanced professional development and communication among nurses when using Early Warning Score systems, (c) Detecting patient deterioration by integrating nurses' clinical gaze with Early Warning Score systems and (d) Modification and fear of making mistakes when using Early Warning Score systems.

Genetic components contribute significantly to the cause of hearing loss. Nonsyndromic hearing loss has been shown to have high genetic heterogeneity. For families who had given birth to two nonsyndromic deaf children in succession, it seems that their deafness was highly related to genetics.
This study aimed to disclose the genetic causes of the subjects from the four Chinese families with two nonsyndromic deaf children in succession who failed to find the genetic etiology of the hearing loss by common deafness genetic screening (GJB2, GJB3, SLC26A4, and MT-RNR1, including 20 hot variants in 4 genes).
Targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) of 127 known deafness genes was performed in probands of four families, followed by a series of comprehensive analyses of all family members combined with a literature review of related genes.
We identified pathogenic variants in three families including c.919-2A>G/c.1985G>A in SLC26A4; c.109G>A (p.V37I) in GJB2; and m.7505T>C in MT-TS1. Sanger sequencing confirmed that these variants segregated with the hearing impairment of each family. We also identified c.331C>T/c.625-5C>T/c.5717G>A in CDH23; c.138T>C in POU3F4 in two families, in which the pathogenicity in clinical was likely pathogenic or unknown.

The long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) differentiation antagonizing non-protein coding RNA (DANCR) exhibits oncogenic activity in several types of human cancers, including AML, but it remains unclear whether it regulates autophagy and chemoresistance in AML. We report here that cytarabine (Ara-C) treatment elevates DANCR expression in human AML cells. In addition, DANCR overexpression confers and its knockdown diminishes Ara-C resistance in human AML cells, suggesting that DANCR positively regulates AML chemoresistance to Ara-C. Moreover, DANCR promotes autophagy in Ara-C-treated human AML cells and acts as a sponge to decrease miR-20a-5p expression, thereby upregulating the expression of ATG16L1, a critical component of the autophagy machinery. Importantly, ATG16L1 silencing abrogates DANCR-promoted autophagy and markedly restores DANCR-conferred Ara-C resistance, suggesting that DANCR promotes MIR-874-3P/ATG16L1 axis-regulated autophagy to confer Ara-C resistance in human AML cells. Pharmacological inhibition of NEP reduces mortality in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Physiological interventions reducing NEP levels are unknown in humans. Because obesity leads to increased NEP levels and increases the risk for heart failure, we hypothesized that weight loss reduces NEP concentrations in plasma and tissue.

Objective To investigate the role of 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1.25(OH) (2)D(3)] in liver lipid metabolism so as to provide the clues for elucidating the mechanism of non-alcoholic fatty liver. Methods 26 SD rats were randomly divided into control group (methionine-choline-sufficient diet, MCS), model group (methionine-choline-deficiency diet, MCD) and intervention group [MCD+1.25(OH) (2)D(3)]. The intervention, control, and model group was given 3 ng/100 g 1.25(OH) (2)D(3) peanut oil solution per day by gavage according to body mass. After 4 weeks the experiment was ended up, and the blood was collected from the inferior vena cava to detect alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). The liver tissue was collected to observe the liver morphological and pathological changes (oil red O and HE staining). The changes in the level of liver total triglyceride (TG) content and liver lipid metabolism-related genes [fatty acid transfer protein (FAT/CD36), acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC1)protein F = 7.212, P = 0.043). The relative expression level of mRNA and protein of ACC1 (mRNA 0.89 ± 0.54, protein 0.28 ± 0.11) were also significantly lower than those in model group (mRNA 1.39 ± 0.19, protein 0.47 ± 0.24) (mRNA F = 3.948, P = 0.036, protein F = 10.933, P = 0.048). The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method was used to detect the genetic polymorphisms of PNPLA3 rs738409 and TM6SF2 rs58542926, respectively. Results Compared with the control group, the frequency distribution of PNPLA3 rs738409 G allele in the case group was significantly different (OR = 1.583, P = 0.001). Further grouping showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the control and hepatitis C-related liver cancer group (P = 0.161), but there were significant differences in other groups (P 0.05). Conclusion PNPLA3 rs738409 and TM6SF2 rs58542926 gene polymorphisms are correlated with the occurrence of primary liver cancer in the Han population of China's Northeast region. Methods Clinical data of 115 GS cases diagnosed in our hospital from January 2013 to November 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Chi-square test, Fisher's exact probability method, t-test, and non-parametric test were used for data analysis. Results 115 cases with GS had an average age of (36.89 ± 12.77) years and an average serum total bilirubin level of (44.01 ± 18.78) μmol/L.UGT1A1*28/*28 (21, 18.3%), UGT1A1*1/*28 (17, 14.8%), and UGT1A1*1/*6 (17, 14.8%) were the most common single-site mutations. UGT1A1*1/*28 + *1/*6 (26, 22.6%), UGT1A1*28/*28 + *1/*27 (5, 4.3%) and UGT1A1*1/*28 + *1/*6 + *1/* 27 (5, 4.3%) were the most common multiple-site mutations. Among 110 cases with Gilbert syndrome combined with non-hemolytic diseases, pairwise comparisons showed that the total bilirubin levels of patients with UGT1A1*28/*28 mutations were significantly higher than UGT1A1*6/*6 and UGT1A1*1/*28 + *1/*6 mutation (P 0.05). The two groups were observed and compared in terms of the voriconazole's plasma concentrations, the outcomes of IFI and the rate of untoward reactions. The liver functional indicators were also compared between before and after treatment each group. We used Student's t test, Z test, chi-square test, or Fisher's exact test, as appropriate, for statistical analysis.
