Prehabilitation programmes that combine exercise training, nutritional support and emotional reinforcement (multimodal prehabilitation) have demonstrated efficacy reducing postoperative complications in the context of abdominal surgery. However, such programmes have seldom been studied in cardiac surgery, one of the surgeries associated with higher postoperative morbidity and mortality. This trial will assess the feasibility and efficacy in terms of reduction of postoperative complications and cost-effectiveness of a multimodal prehabilitation programme comparing to the standard of care in cardiac surgical patients.
This is a single-centre, randomised, open-label, controlled trial with a 11 ratio. Consecutive 160 elective valve replacement and/or coronary revascularisation surgical patients will be randomised to either standard of care or 4-6 weeks of multimodal prehabilitation that will consist in (1) two times/week supervised endurance and strength exercise training sessions, (2) promotion of physical activity and healthy lifestyle, (3) respiratory physiotherapy, (4) nutrition counselling and supplementation if needed, and (5) weekly mindfulness sessions. Baseline, preoperative and 3-month postoperative data will be collected by an independent blinded evaluator. The primary outcome of this study will be the incidence of postoperative complications.
This study has been approved by the Ethics Committee of Clinical investigation of Hospital Clinic de Barcelona (HCB/2017/0708). The results will be disseminated in a peer-reviewed journal.

The epidemiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in sub-Saharan Africa is poorly documented. We have started a registry to determine the burden, phenotype, risk factors, disease course and outcomes of IBD in Zimbabwe.
A prospective observational registry with a nested case-control study has been established at a tertiary hospital in Harare, Zimbabwe. The registry is recruiting confirmed IBD cases from the hospital, and other facilities throughout Zimbabwe. Demographic and clinical data are obtained at baseline, 6 months and annually. Two age and sex-matched non-IBD controls per case are recruited-a sibling or second-degree relative, and a randomly selected individual from the same neighbourhood. Cases and controls are interviewed for potential risk factors of IBD, and dietary intake using a food frequency questionnaire. Stool is collected for 16S rRNA-based microbiota profiling, and along with germline DNA from peripheral blood, is being biobanked. The estimated sample size is 86 cases and 172 controls, and the overall registry is anticipated to run for at least 5 years. Descriptive statistics will be used to describe the demographic and phenotypic characteristics of IBD, and incidence and prevalence will be estimated for Harare. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/MG132.html Risk factors for IBD will be analysed using conditional logistic regression. For microbial analysis, alpha diversity and beta diversity will be compared between cases and controls, and between IBD phenotypes. Pembrolizumab was recently demonstrated to have survival benefit in patients with recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (r/mHNSCC). However, the cost-effectiveness of pembrolizumab versus chemotherapy in China remains uncertain.
This analysis aimed to describe the cost-effectiveness of pembrolizumab versus standard-of-care (SOC) therapy in r/mHNSCC in China.
A Markov model consisting of three health states (stable, progressive and dead) was developed to compare the cost and effectiveness of pembrolizumab with SOC in platinum-resistant r/mHNSCC. Model inputs for transition probabilities and toxicity were collected from the KEYNOTE-040 trial, while health utilities were estimated from a literature review. Cost data were acquired for the payer's perspective in China. Costs and outcomes were discounted at an annual rate of 3.0%. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to test the uncertainties surrounding model parameters.
The primary outcome was incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (m-resistant r/mHNSCC in China.

Physical inactivity due to changes in our society towards more sedentary behaviours is leading to health problems. Increasing physical activity might be a good strategy to improve physical strength and reduce the prevalence of illnesses associated with prolonged sitting. Office workers exhibit a sedentary lifestyle with short rest periods or even without pauses during the workday. It is important to perform workplace interventions to treat musculoskeletal disorders caused by prolonged sitting and lack of movement adopted on the office setting. This article describes a protocol for a systematic review to evaluate the effectiveness of exercise interventions on office workers in their work environment.
A literature search will be performed in the PubMed, CINAHL Plus, Cochrane Library, Scopus, ISI WoS and PeDRO databases for randomised controlled trials and studies published from 1 January 2010 to 31 July 2020 in English or Spanish. The participants will be office workers who spend most of their work time in a sitting position.

Perioperative allogeneic blood transfusion (PBT) is associated with increased infectious risk for many surgical procedures, although this has not been thoroughly explored for extirpative renal surgery. Underlying mechanisms may be related to an alteration of the patient immune response. We aimed to assess the infectious complications associated with PBT after radical or partial nephrectomy.
The Nationwide Inpatient Sample (1996-2015) was queried for patients undergoing radical or partial nephrectomy. We assessed rates of infectious complications in patients who did and did not receive PBT. Infections were index complications and included sepsis, abscess, pneumonia, urinary tract infection, and wound infection. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine the risk of infectious complications accounting for age, gender, race, insurance, income, surgery type and approach, length of stay, comorbidity, and PBT.
We identified 140,183 patients undergoing partial or radical nephrectomy during the studydependently associated with an increased risk of postoperative infections for patients undergoing partial or radical nephrectomy. This may be due to underlying transfusion-related immunomodulatory mechanisms. While PBT is necessary in many instances to promote patient survival, providers should remain cautious when providing PBT after extirpative renal surgery.

To evaluate in vivo applicability, characteristics and toxicity of ST-UC, a mucoadhesive polymeric paste formulation of gemcitabine, for upper urinary tract instillation.
Three pigs received 10 ml of ST-UC (100 mg/ml gemcitabine) retrogradely into 1 renal pelvis for pharmacokinetic studies. Four days later, a second injection into the contralateral renal pelvis was followed by serial euthanasia of the pigs and nephroureterectomy after 1, 3, and 6 hours. Adverse effects were monitored. Urine, serum, and tissue gemcitabine concentrations were measured, along with histologic examination of the upper urinary tract.
Retrograde instillation of ST-UC was well tolerated with mild, completely receding hydronephrosis. Urine gemcitabine concentrations were highest in the first 3-hour collection interval. Hundred percent of gemcitabine was recovered in the urine within 24 hours. Serum peak concentrations (c

To examine the incidence, clinical characteristics, and in-hospital outcomes of pulmonary embolism (PE) among hospitalized patients with or without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Spain, and to identify predictors of in-hospital-mortality (IHM) after PE among patients with and without COPD.
We included all patients aged ≥ 40 years who were hospitalised for PE between 2016 and 2018. Data were collected from the Spanish National Hospital Discharge Database.
We identified 47,190 hospitalizations for PE during the study period, 7.49% with COPD. Adjusted incidence of PE was higher in COPD patients than in those without COPD (IRR 1.16; 95%CI 1.13-1.19). Crude IHM was significantly higher in PE hospitalized patients with COPD than in those without COPD (9.86% vs 3.59%; p<0.001). Predictor factors of IHM in COPD patients with PE included older age, higher Charlson comorbidity index, atrial fibrillation, massive PE and dependence on oxygen prior to hospital admission. However, obesity was associated with lower IHM. For PE hospitalized patients, suffering COPD increased the probability of dying in the hospital (adjusted OR 2.84; 95%CI 2.27-3.55).

Slowed processing speed and executive dysfunction are associated with poor outcomes in Late Life Depression (LLD), though it is unclear why. We investigated whether these variables interfere with the development of positive treatment expectancies in an antidepressant trial.

INAA allowed accurate elemental quantification and also showed a great potential for the future implementation of an inter-laboratory classification system.Fluorescent quantum dots (QDs), defined by a diameter size of less then 10 nm, have been the core concept of nanoscience and nanotechnology since their inception. QDs possess many unique structural, electrochemical and photochemical properties that render them a promising platform for sensing applications. These nanomaterials can greatly enhance the analytical performances of biosensors, namely detection limit, sensitivity and selectivity. QDs are being developed not only because of their ability for signal enhancement but also because of their high capacity for fuctionalization with bioreceptors. In this review, we summarize a basic knowledge of QDs before focusing on their application to sensing thus far followed by a discussion of future directions for research into the sensing field. Due to the nature of QDs, especially their ability to combine nanotechnology and biotechnology, they possess the potential to open a novel paradigm on early diagnosis of diseases using the electrochemical biosensors. Therefore, we try to give a comprehensive view of the role of these zero-dimensional (0D) nanomaterials in the designing electrochemical sensors for determination of disease-related biomolecules, including tumor markers, inflammatory biomarkers, depression markers and archetypal biomarker in diabetes diagnosis. Considering the high potential of QDs for the electrochemistry-based biosensing strategies, the authors suggest that more research is needed on understanding their electronic properties and why synthesis and surface modification methods can affect these properties.The technological growth, the increasing safety, and production standards cascade down to the quality of the raw materials. The development of analytical methods for high quality powder analysis needs to grow parallel to this trend. Here we present an experimental method which is easy to implement and use, and is sensitive to contaminants (i.e. external particles that are not part of the material of interest) over total trace elements. Contaminants typically are a few orders of magnitude lower in concentration than total trace elements. The method focuses on the quantification of Fe, Ni and Cr in high purity carbon powders used in the lithium-ion battery industry. We present test sample size calculations prior to the method description to ensure high precision and assess possible bias. The method is based on the magnetic extraction of a large test sample, followed by acid digestion and quantification. The procedure and the method performance are described. In addition, the analyses of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF) demonstrated that peptides with methylated lysine or arginine can be selectively extracted from spiked histone trypsin digestion. The recoveries for the spiked GGAK(Me)R, GGAKR(Me)2 and GGAK(Me)3R are 83%, 78%, and 84% respectively. INAA allowed accurate elemental quantification and also showed a great potential for the future implementation of an inter-laboratory classification system.Fluorescent quantum dots (QDs), defined by a diameter size of less then 10 nm, have been the core concept of nanoscience and nanotechnology since their inception. QDs possess many unique structural, electrochemical and photochemical properties that render them a promising platform for sensing applications. These nanomaterials can greatly enhance the analytical performances of biosensors, namely detection limit, sensitivity and selectivity. QDs are being developed not only because of their ability for signal enhancement but also because of their high capacity for fuctionalization with bioreceptors. In this review, we summarize a basic knowledge of QDs before focusing on their application to sensing thus far followed by a discussion of future directions for research into the sensing field. Due to the nature of QDs, especially their ability to combine nanotechnology and biotechnology, they possess the potential to open a novel paradigm on early diagnosis of diseases using the electrochemical biosensors. Therefore, we try to give a comprehensive view of the role of these zero-dimensional (0D) nanomaterials in the designing electrochemical sensors for determination of disease-related biomolecules, including tumor markers, inflammatory biomarkers, depression markers and archetypal biomarker in diabetes diagnosis. Treatment for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains a significant challenge due to a lack of targeted therapies. While photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been utilized as a treatment approach for several types of cancer, oxyphotodynamic therapy (OPDT) is a novel method that improves treatment efficacy by increasing local oxygen concentration. Metformin (MET) has been demonstrated utility as an anti-tumor agent by acting through the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway. We hypothesized that MET in combination with heme, a byproduct of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), may increase cytotoxicity for cancer treatment. This study aimed to investigate the synergistic effect of MET and ALA with PDT or OPDT on TNBC tumorigenic cells.
The treatment efficacy and phototoxicity of PDT or OPDT were determined using a cell viability assay. A comprehensive algorithm combining histologic assessment, molecular analysis, and imaging information was used to classify nodules as IPM or MPLC. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate survival rates, and the relevant factors were evaluated using the log-rank test or Cox proportional hazards model.
The study included 576 patients with 1,295 lung tumcal practice. Patients with multiple lesions without lymph node metastasis or without radiotherapy tended to have a better prognosis.

Bio-psycho-social frailty can negatively affect the health status of an ageing population. The integration between community nurses and social services can emphasize community care and prevent the onset of both health and social negative outcomes in the older population. The aim of the paper is to explore the causal association through the analysis of the hospitalization and mortality rate after a pro-active social service integrated by the community nurse.
A nested case-control study comparing groups of older adults has been carried out. Methods. The paper compares data stem from a cohort followed up by the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" with data from the "Long Live the Elderly!" program (LLE) cohort.
One-year standardized mortality rate was 6.5%, 4.7% and 7.5% in the control group, the LLE group and the LLE group integrated by the community nurse (LLE-CN), respectively. One-year hospitalization rate was 15.4%, 15.5% and 10.8% in the control group, the LLE group and the LLE-CN group, respectively.
According to our results a social service with a pro-active approach, integrated by the community nurse, appears to be able to reduce mortality and hospitalization in a group of older adults aged>75. The multidimensional assessment of frailty stands for the first step of a new organization of community services.

Participants were healthy volunteers, 18-70 y old, from Bologna. They followed a training course consisting of seven meetings and signed a contract to comply with the promoted habits, verified through questionnaires at the engagement phase (T0), three months later (T1) and one year later (T2).
One hundred, fifty-three subjects were involved, 75.8% were evaluated at T1 and 41.2% at T2. More than 80% of the subjects involved at T1 achieved an improvement of planned goals. Moreover, 77% of T1 compliants retained healthy eating and physical activity at T2.
The proposed pathway of empowerment positively affected nutrition and promotion of physical activity at 3 months after the intervention (T1) and were maintained even after a year. The results appear to be promising for primary prevention across the spectrum of a healthy lifestyle educational approach.

Prison is an especially difficult environment for promoting oral health and leads to the exacerbation of unhealthy behaviors. This study set out to assess the impact of incarceration on nutritional status and oral health among the male prison inmates of Central Jail of Jaipur city, Rajasthan, India.
A cross sectional study was conducted among 181 male inmates. Dental caries and periodontal status were assessed by using modified the Decayed Missing Filled Teeth (DMFT) index and Community Periodontal Index (CPI) and Loss of Attachment (LOA) index as per the WHO methodology 1997. Nutritional status was assessed by Body Mass Index (BMI) and weight (kg)/height (m2).
Out of 181 inmates, 141 (77.90%) had normal BMI. The majority (n=128, 70.70%) of inmates were incarcerated for less than 6 years. A significant difference (P<0.05) was found between age and periodontal status. A significant difference was observed (P<0.05) in the CPI score 3 and LOA 0 and 1 score. However, no significant difference (P>0.05) was observed in DMFT and period of incarceration. Age was the significant (P<0.001) risk factor for CPI and LOA.
Dental caries and periodontal health deteriorates with age and period of incarceration. Oral hygiene maintenance along with comprehensive oral care can be accomplished by establishing dental care facilities in prisons.

Entry into prison involves adapting to a prison culture that is sometimes altered by the effect of imprisonment. Prisons are overcrowded and hold large numbers of inmates suffering from mental disorders and difficulties of adaptation, who affect the delicate equilibrium of the prison environment and can worsen the relational climate.
Several bibliographical databases on the influence of the mental health of adult inmates on the prison relationship climate and existing interventions in this regard that have been published in the last 15 years were reviewed. This data was complemented by other information obtained from the online bibliographic indexes of the Ministry of the Interior.

Bio-psycho-social frailty can negatively affect the health status of an ageing population. The integration between community nurses and social services can emphasize community care and prevent the onset of both health and social negative outcomes in the older population. The aim of the paper is to explore the causal association through the analysis of the hospitalization and mortality rate after a pro-active social service integrated by the community nurse. A nested case-control study comparing groups of older adults has been carried out. Methods. The paper compares data stem from a cohort followed up by the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" with data from the "Long Live the Elderly!" program (LLE) cohort. One-year standardized mortality rate was 6.5%, 4.7% and 7.5% in the control group, the LLE group and the LLE group integrated by the community nurse (LLE-CN), respectively. One-year hospitalization rate was 15.4%, 15.5% and 10.8% in the control group, the LLE group and the LLE-CN group, respectively. This study set out to assess the impact of incarceration on nutritional status and oral health among the male prison inmates of Central Jail of Jaipur city, Rajasthan, India. A cross sectional study was conducted among 181 male inmates. Dental caries and periodontal status were assessed by using modified the Decayed Missing Filled Teeth (DMFT) index and Community Periodontal Index (CPI) and Loss of Attachment (LOA) index as per the WHO methodology 1997. Nutritional status was assessed by Body Mass Index (BMI) and weight (kg)/height (m2). Out of 181 inmates, 141 (77.90%) had normal BMI. The majority (n=128, 70.70%) of inmates were incarcerated for less than 6 years. A significant difference (P<0.05) was found between age and periodontal status. A significant difference was observed (P<0.05) in the CPI score 3 and LOA 0 and 1 score. However, no significant difference (P>0.05) was observed in DMFT and period of incarceration. Age was the significant (P<0.001) risk factor for CPI and LOA. Dental caries and periodontal health deteriorates with age and period of incarceration. Hearing loss (HL) is a significant public health concern globally and is estimated to affect over nine million people in England. The aim of this research was to explore the regional patterns and trends of HL in a representative longitudinal prospective cohort study of the English population aged 50 and over.
We used the full dataset (74,699 person-years) of self-reported hearing data from all eight Waves of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) (2002-2017). We examined the geographical identifiers of the participants at the Government Office Region (GOR) level and the geographically based Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). The primary outcome measure was self-reported HL; it consisted of a merged category of people who rated their hearing as fair or poor on a five-point Likert scale (excellent, very good, good, fair or poor) or responded positively when asked whether they find it difficult to follow a conversation if there is background noise (e.g. noise from a TV, a radio or children playingiment of older age; instead, they should incorporate socio-economic factors and modifiable lifestyle behaviours for HL within their spatial patterning in England.
A sociospatial approach is crucial for planning sustainable models of hearing care based on actual needs and reducing hearing health inequalities. The Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) currently responsible for the NHS audiology services in England should not consider HL an inevitable accompaniment of older age; instead, they should incorporate socio-economic factors and modifiable lifestyle behaviours for HL within their spatial patterning in England.

Previously, we proposed a hybrid prototype utilizing lexical features and role definitions of concepts in non-lattice subgraphs to identify missing IS-A relations in the NCI Thesaurus. However, no domain expert evaluation was provided in our previous work. In this paper, we further enhance the hybrid approach by leveraging a novel lexical feature-roots of noun chunks within concept names. Formal evaluation of our enhanced approach is also performed.
We first compute all the non-lattice subgraphs in the NCI Thesaurus. We model each concept using its role definitions, words and roots of noun chunks within its concept name and its ancestor's names. Then we perform subsumption testing for candidate concept pairs in the non-lattice subgraphs to automatically detect potentially missing IS-A relations. Domain experts evaluated the validity of these relations.
We applied our approach to 19.08d version of the NCI Thesaurus. While candidate concepts have to be approved for import by an expert, the human effort is greatly reduced by algorithmic generation of candidates. In previous studies, a single source terminology was used with one target terminology.
In this paper, we are extending the algorithmic detection of "candidate concepts for import" from one source terminology to two source terminologies used in tandem. We show that the combination of two source terminologies relative to one target terminology leads to the discovery of candidate concepts for import that could not be found with the same "reliability" when comparing on detected, as a "beneficial side-effect" of this method, increasing the cardinality of the result.

PFU were used to prepare eye drops. The stability of the antibacterial titre was evaluated for preparations stored in sealed bottles as well as after opening and reclosing.

A high percentage of strains were resistant to more than three antibiotics. The experimental phage eye drops used in the study exhibited 100% efficacy in vitro against the tested Staphylococcus isolates.

Chemical GSH modulation at 48 hpf induced significant islet morphology changes at 96 hpf. Pro-oxidant exposures to tert-butylhydroperoxide (77.6 μM; 10-min at 48 hpf) or tert-butylhydroquinone (1 μM; 48-56 hpf) decreased β-cell cluster area at 96 hpf. Port needle insertions are painful and distressing for Pediatric Hematology-Oncology patients. Virtual Reality (VR) can be used during needle-related procedures in these patients. This study aimed to investigate the effect of VR distraction during access to the venous port with a Huber needle in reducing needle-related pain, fear, and anxiety of children and adolescents with cancer.
This randomized controlled study used a parallel trial design guided by the CONSORT checklist. The sample of children (n=42) was allocated to the VR group (n=21) and the control group (n=21). Port needle-related pain was assessed using the Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale after the procedure. Before and after the port needle insertion procedure, anxiety and fear assessed using self- and parent-report using the Children's Anxiety Meter and Child Fear Scale. The primary outcome was the patient-reported pain scores after the procedure and fear and anxiety scores before and after the procedure. Pain, anxiety, and fear scores of the two groups and within groups were analyzed and also Spearman correlation analysis was used.
Self-reported pain scores of patients in the VR and control group were 2.4±1.8 and 5.3±1.8, respectively. This study found a statistically significant difference between groups in pain scores (p<.001). A statistically significant difference was found between groups according to the self- and parent-reported fear and anxiety scores after the procedure. Self-reported fear scores in the VR and control group were 0.8±0.9, 2.0±1.0, self-reported anxiety scores were 2.9±2.0, 5.4±2.0, respectively (p<.001).

After blinded independent central review of ETS (≥20% reduction of the sum of target lesions) and DoR in patients enrolled in Valentino, the prognostic and predictive role of such parameters was investigated, along with their combination with PRESSING panel (uncommon genomic alterations associated with anti-EGFRs resistance beyond RAS and BRAF). One hundred and ninety-six patients were included (ETS in 132 [67.3%], median DoR 44.1%). Both ETS and DoR ≥34% were associated with longer mPFS (p=0.010 and p<0.001) and mOS (p=0.006 and p<0.001). This study aimed to investigate the effect of VR distraction during access to the venous port with a Huber needle in reducing needle-related pain, fear, and anxiety of children and adolescents with cancer. This randomized controlled study used a parallel trial design guided by the CONSORT checklist. The sample of children (n=42) was allocated to the VR group (n=21) and the control group (n=21). Port needle-related pain was assessed using the Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale after the procedure. Before and after the port needle insertion procedure, anxiety and fear assessed using self- and parent-report using the Children's Anxiety Meter and Child Fear Scale. The primary outcome was the patient-reported pain scores after the procedure and fear and anxiety scores before and after the procedure. Pain, anxiety, and fear scores of the two groups and within groups were analyzed and also Spearman correlation analysis was used. Self-reported pain scores of patients in the VR and control group were 2.4±1.8 and 5.3±1.8, respectively. This study found a statistically significant difference between groups in pain scores (p<.001). A statistically significant difference was found between groups according to the self- and parent-reported fear and anxiety scores after the procedure. Self-reported fear scores in the VR and control group were 0.8±0.9, 2.0±1.0, self-reported anxiety scores were 2.9±2.0, 5.4±2.0, respectively (p<.001). Not only has the pandemic completely overwhelmed some health systems but it has also changed how scientific evidence is shared and increased the pace at which such evidence is published and consumed, by scientists, policymakers and the wider public. More significantly, the pandemic has created tremendous challenges for decision-makers, who have had to implement highly disruptive containment measures with very little empirical scientific evidence to support their decision-making process. Given this lack of data, predictive mathematical models have played an increasingly prominent role. In high-income countries, there is a long-standing history of established research groups advising policymakers, whereas a general lack of translational capacity has meant that mathematical models frequently remain inaccessible to policymakers in low-income and middle-income countries. Here, we describe a participatory approach to modelling that aims to circumvent this gap. Our approach involved the creation of an international group of infectious disease modellers and other public health experts, which culminated in the establishment of the COVID-19 Modelling (CoMo) Consortium. Here, we describe how the consortium was formed, the way it functions, the mathematical model used and, crucially, the high degree of engagement fostered between CoMo Consortium members and their respective local policymakers and ministries of health.A new protocol for rapid SPECT/CT blood pool imaging consisting of fewer image-angle acquisitions (fewer-angle SPECT/CT, or FASpecT/CT) was evaluated for localization of focal sites of soft-tissue inflammation, infection, and osteomyelitis. Methods Immediately after dynamic flow and standard planar blood pool imaging with 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate, FASpecT/CT was performed with a dual-head γ-camera consisting of 6 steps over 360°, 12 total images with 30° of separation between angles, and 30 s per image, requiring a total imaging time of approximately 3 min. Images were reconstructed using iterative ordered-subset expectation maximization. Before use in a patient-care setting, various FASpecT/CT acquisition protocols were modeled using a phantom to determine the minimum number of stops and the stop duration required to produce a reliable image. Results FASpecT/CT images provided excellent 3-dimensional localization of spine osteomyelitis, soft-tissue infection of the foot, and tendonitis of the hand and foot using a 3-min image acquisition time. The FASpecT/CT acquisition protocol required 1.3-3.5 min, including camera movement time. This was a reduction of 72%-90% from the time required for the standard 60-angle, 20-s SPECT/CT acquisition. Methods This retrospective study reviewed 117 SBTS from 2/2017 to 9/2019. Patients were fed a standardized mixed radiolabeled solid- liquid meal for gastric emptying with SBTS according to SNMMI Practice Guidelines. Additional LNM was given at 6 hr, and post-LNM images were obtained at least 20 minutes after the LNM. Two board-certified nuclear medicine physicians independently evaluated all images at 6 hours as equivocal or diagnostic. Results Of the 117 patients (71.8% female, median age 42.0) undergoing SBTS, 37 were equivocal cases at 6 hours pre-LNM (31.6%, 95% CI=23.3%-40.9%) compared to 12 equivocal cases post-LNM (10.3%, 95% CI=5.4%-17.2%). Of the equivocal cases, 25 (69.4%, 95% CI=51.9%-83.7%) had a definitive result after LNM administration while 11 (30.6%, 95% CI=16.4%-48.1%) remained equivocal, and 1 showed rapid transit. In patients with gastroparesis, only 13/23 (57%) responded to LMN, while 0/3 IBS patients responded. Conclusion The number of equivocal SBTS cases decreased after administration of a LNM at 6 hours, converting to a definitive result. This suggests that with use of a LNM a majority of patients can complete SBTS in one day without the need for repeat imaging at 24 hours. Administering a LNM appears to be less effective for patients with gastric disorders. Several strategies and examples of entry-level projects are outlined, including **** potential projects using convolutional neural networks toward which we can progress. The examples provide a narrow snapshot of potential applications designed to inspire readers to think outside the box at problem solving using AI and ML. The simple and resource-light ML approaches are ideal for problem solving, are accessible starting points for developing an institutional AI program, and provide solutions that can have a significant and immediate impact on practice. A logical approach would be to use ML to examine the problem and identify among the broader ML projects which problems are most likely to benefit from a DL approach.

To investigate the effect of Chinese herbal formula Ermiao Powder (, EMP) on the expression of cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway in rats with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Seventy-two rats were randomly divided into 6 groups according to body weight, including normal control group, collageninduced arthritis (CIA) group, three doses EMP groups, and methotrexate (MTX) group (n=12 per group). All of the rats except for those in the normal control group were given multipoint subcutaneous injection of bovine type II collagen to establish a CIA model. Three EMP groups received a high- (4.5 g/kg), medium- (3.0 g/kg), and low- (1.5 g/kg) doses of EMP by intragavage, respectively. MTX group was injected intraperitoneally MTX at 0.9 mg/kg once a week as the positive control. The administration was 3 consecutive weeks. Joint swelling, arthritis index, and body weight changes in different experimental groups of rats were tested. The joint damage was evaluated by masson staining. Quantitative real-time polymerase chaer than that in the CIA group (P<0.01).

MI rats induced by ligating the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery were assigned to sham coronary artery ligation or coronary artery ligation. Totally 36 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham group (distilled water, n=9), MI group (distilled water, n=9), PNS group (PNS, 40 mg/kg daily, n=9) and fosinopril group (FIP, 1.2 mg/kg daily, n=9) according to a random number table. The left ventricular morphology and function were conducted by echocardiography. Histological alterations were evaluated by the stainings of HE and Masson. A survey questionnaire regarding "application status of CM rehabilitation in cancer patients" for oncologists (doctor version) and cancer patients (patient version) were developed, respectively. From September 2014 to November 2016, a total of 1,000 doctors from oncology department in 48 hospitals and 2,000 cancer patients from CM oncology department from 8 hospitals in China were recruited in this survey. The psychological, nutrition and exercise rehabilitation guidance for cancer patients provided by doctors, their mastery conditions regarding cancer staging treatment and CM syndrome differentiation, and recommendation from doctors on CM rehabilitation were investigated. Cancer patients' awareness on the importance of psychological, nutrition and exercise rehabilitation, as well as their knowledge and needs for rehabilitation were also ly correlated with cognition level of CM rehabilitation knowledge among cancer patients (Kendall-tau_b correlation coefficients=0.130, 0.057, respectively; P<0.05). Gender and education level were positively correlated with the patients' willingness for taking CM measures (Kendall-tau_b correlation coefficient=0.057, 0.105, respectively; P<0.05). Age was negatively correlated with intention of applying CM measures (kendall-taub correlation coefficient=-0.105, P<0.05).

) aged 20 to 40 years at the integrated health clinic affiliated to theHigh Institute of Public Health, Alexandria,Egypt, from February 2016 to February 2017. All participants underwent a weight loss program based on a reduced calorie balanced diet and advised to increase their physical activity. Dietary instructions and follow-up were done weekly throughout 16 weeks. Blood samples were collected to investigate serum adiponectin level and insulin resistance at the beginning and the es is recommended to reduce the risk of occurrence of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
Evidence for endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) for colorectal defects is still based on small patient series from various institutions, employing different treatment algorithms and methods. As EVT was invented at our institution 20years ago, the aim was to report the efficacy and safety of EVT for colorectal defects as well as to analyze factors associated with efficacy, therapy duration, and outpatient treatment.
Cohort study with analysis of prospectively collected data of patients receiving EVT for colorectal defects at a tertiary referral center in Germany (n = 281).
The majority of patients had malignant disease (83%) and an American Society of Anesthesiologists classification of III/IV (81%). Most frequent indications for EVT were anastomotic leakage after sigmoid or rectal resection (67%) followed by rectal stump leakage (20%). EVT was successful in 256 out of 281 patients (91%). EVT following multi-visceral resection (P = 0.037) and recent surgical revision after primary surgery (P = 0.009) were risk factors for EVT failure.

All participants underwent a weight loss program based on a reduced calorie balanced diet and advised to increase their physical activity. Evidence for endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) for colorectal defects is still based on small patient series from various institutions, employing different treatment algorithms and methods. As EVT was invented at our institution 20years ago, the aim was to report the efficacy and safety of EVT for colorectal defects as well as to analyze factors associated with efficacy, therapy duration, and outpatient treatment. Cohort study with analysis of prospectively collected data of patients receiving EVT for colorectal defects at a tertiary referral center in Germany (n = 281). The majority of patients had malignant disease (83%) and an American Society of Anesthesiologists classification of III/IV (81%). Most frequent indications for EVT were anastomotic leakage after sigmoid or rectal resection (67%) followed by rectal stump leakage (20%). EVT was successful in 256 out of 281 patients (91%).
