It is not clear if online radiotherapy patient educational materials that are published by the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and the various provincial health authorities meet the appropriate readability levels. The aim of this study is to determine the readability of online Canadian radiotherapy patient educational materials.
The publicly available educational materials were acquired from the provincial health authorities' and the CCS's websites. Only English language materials were included. Documents which mainly contained instructions or were part of interactive modules were excluded. The materials were transferred to Microsoft Word documents and labelled by source and category. Editing was then performed and the readability scores were acquired for each document.
A total of 67 documents were included and 4 were excluded. The overall mean Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level from all sources was 7.5 (range, 3.6-13.2; 95% confidence interval [CI] 7.1-7.9), while the overall mean Flesch Reading Ease from all sords.

Both temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and sleep bruxism (SB) are known to be destructive to the masticatory system. However, the association between the 2 conditions is poorly understood. The aim of our study was to assess the relationship between TMD and SB through the signs and symptoms in 2 patient groups TMD only and TMD with SB.
A retrospective chart review was conducted from November 1, 2015, to April 1, 2018, on patients with completed International Network for Orofacial Pain and Related Disorders Methodology history questionnaires and Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorder clinical examinations. Fifty-two patients, including 12 with TMD only and 40 with TMD with SB, met the study criteria. Subjective descriptions and objective measurements of patient symptoms were investigated. The χ

This study aims to estimate the incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Germany.
Pregnant women were identified from a health claims database for the year of 2016. Three groups were defined general population without GDM, women with GDM without treatment and women with GDM and insulin treatment. Operationalisation of outcomes was aligned with the hyperglycaemia and adverse pregnancy outcomes (HAPO) study.
The cohort consisted of 58,297 mother-child pairs. Of those, 7245 had a GDM diagnosis and 1407 had a GDM diagnosis with a prescription of insulin. Adverse pregnancy outcomes were higher in both GDM groups compared to the control group. Birthweight (OR 2.08 [95% CI 1.50-2.90]), primary caesarean section (OR 1.70 [95% CI 1.48-1.95]), intensive neonatal care (OR 1.25 [95% CI 1.04-1.50]), preeclampsia (OR 1.51 [95% CI 1.23-1.85]), and clinical neonatal hypoglycaemia (OR 5.32 [95% CI 4.27-6.62]) were higher in the GDM+insulin group in comparison to a control group after adjustment for potential confounders.

Although the prognostic role of human papilloma virus (HPV) status in oropharyngeal head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is well established, growing evidence shows that there may be a prognostic role for HPV status in hypopharyngeal SCC. The objective of this study was to determine the prognostic role of HPV status in hypopharyngeal SCC.
We performed a retrospective, population-based analysis of 1934 adult patients with HNSCC diagnosed between 2010-2016 and treated with a combination of surgery and/or radiotherapy, with or without chemotherapy, and a subset of 641 patients with hypopharyngeal SCC and known HPV status included in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Head and Neck with HPV Status Database. Patient data were used to determine the adjusted 2-year cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS) for the entire cohort and the specific subgroup of hypopharyngeal cancer patients with known HPV status.
Of the 1934 hypopharynx SCC cases, HPV status was unknown in 1294 (66.9%), and 167 (8.6%) were HPV positive; among hypopharynx cases with known HPV status, 21.6% were HPV positive. In models adjusting for sex, age, race/ethnicity, marital status and stage, patients with HPV-positive hypopharyngeal tumors had improved CSS compared with patients with HPV-negative tumors (CSS HR .57, 95% CI = .38 to .86,
= .008; OS HR .49, 95% CI = .34 to .71,
= <.001).
Our findings in a large cohort of hypopharyngeal SCC with known HPV status and cancer-specific survival support the hypothesis that HPV has a prognostic role in hypopharyngeal cancer. Consideration should be given to increased testing for HPV in hypopharyngeal SCC.

The tongue is an essential organ for human interaction, communication and survival. To date, there is a paucity of objective functional, patient reported, or quality of life outcomes of patients undergoing a total glossectomy with preservation of the larynx (TGLP).
To examine prospectively collected objective, self-reported functional and quality of life (QOL) data in patients undergoing TGLP and free flap reconstruction.
Sixteen TGLP patients were identified in the prospective head and neck cancer and functional outcomes database between January of 2009 and December 2017. Data collection included patient age, sex, performance status, TNM staging, diagnosis and adjuvant treatment. Patients were included only if presentation was within 3 hours of inciting trauma, transfers from other facilities were excluded. Demographic characteristics, fracture patterns, operative interventions, weather data, and local public school schedules were acquired and associations were analyzed with unpaired

Two hundred and sixty patients were included. The average age (SD) was 11.8 (5.0) years, with 173 males and 87 females. The highest distribution of presentations occurred in the summer season (35.0%), on weekends and holidays (58.1%), and when the weather was described as clear (48.5%). The most common mechanisms of injury were motor vehicle collisions vel 2b (retrospective cohort).

Oral health-related quality of life of patients without dentures or with removable dentures was significantly worse than in the healthy population, whereas the necessity of multiple additional follow-up treatments was associated with worse oral health-related quality of life. No essential predisposing factors were identified. Average satisfaction with the intervention was observed to be xÌ… = 4.33 (SD = 3.69) on a visual analogue scale from 1 (=very satisfied) to 10 (=very unsatisfied). A longer follow-up period and a higher patients' age were positively related, whereas removal of salivary gland during follow-up was negatively related to satisfaction. In 113 cases (86.9%) long-term preservation was accomplished and 115 (88.5%) patients would repeat a sialendoscopy in case needed.
In summary, sialendoscopy resulted in long-term high subjective and objective success rates. However, oral health-related quality of life scores did not reach those levels found in the healthy population.

Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL) has been described as a safe and effective technique to eliminate stones in patients in whom a less-invasive approach is desired. It was originally developed to treat stones in the pediatric population, but has since been adapted to serve a role in the adult urologic community. This approach has been reported to result in less blood loss and postoperative pain when compared with traditional PCNL. Herein, we present a case in which a recurrent caliceal diverticulum containing stones was managed using a mini-PCNL technique in a patient who previously failed multiple other retrograde endoscopic approaches.Background Multiple large bladder calculi are traditionally managed through open cystolithotomy or transurethrally in patients who have an open bladder neck. Open procedures are technically challenging in patients who may have had multiple previous open surgeries, and may be associated with significant morbidity in patients with a high comorbid burden. Therefore, a percutaneous approach to such stones has been used especially when there is a closed bladder neck, and has been shown to be effective. There are a number of available devices for breaking stones in these approaches, the newest of which is the LithoClast Trilogy™ (EMS, Nyon, Switzerland) device, a probe that provides ultrasonic and mechanical calculi fragmentation and suction in a single instrument. Case Presentation We describe the first reported case of percutaneous cystolitholapaxy using the LithoClast Trilogy device in a 41-year-old woman with spina bifida, and multiple large bladder calculi with a history of ileocystoplasty and Mitrofanoff formation, and a bladder neck closure for neuropathic bladder. The calculi measured 31 and 25 mm, and had a volume of 19.6 and 7.9 cm3 and average HU of 408 and 462, respectively. The calculi were composed of 37% calcium phosphate and 63% magnesium ammonium phosphate. Conclusion We demonstrate that this approach can be used as a viable alternative to open surgery, which is of particular importance for complex patients who have undergone multiple previous open operations, and who may have a high comorbid burden.Background CT has become the gold standard for radiographic evaluation of urolithiasis. Patient underwent cystoscopic evaluation that revealed a polypoid mass located at the bladder neck; however, there were no signs of bladder outlet obstruction in the bladder. Transurethral resection revealed an FEP. Conclusion Hematuria should be evaluated carefully not only in adults but also in children. FEPs in bladder can mimic bladder carcinoma clinically and radiologically. It should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of bladder lesions on imaging modalities in pediatric population.
Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL) has been described as a safe and effective technique to eliminate stones in patients in whom a less-invasive approach is desired. It was originally developed to treat stones in the pediatric population, but has since been adapted to serve a role in the adult urologic community. This approach has been reported to result in less blood loss and postoperative pain when compared with traditional PCNL. Herein, we present a case in which a recurrent caliceal diverticulum containing stones was managed using a mini-PCNL technique in a patient who previously failed multiple other retrograde endoscopic approaches.Background Multiple large bladder calculi are traditionally managed through open cystolithotomy or transurethrally in patients who have an open bladder neck. Open procedures are technically challenging in patients who may have had multiple previous open surgeries, and may be associated with significant morbidity in patients with a high comorbid burden. Therefore, a percutaneous approach to such stones has been used especially when there is a closed bladder neck, and has been shown to be effective. There are a number of available devices for breaking stones in these approaches, the newest of which is the LithoClast Trilogy™ (EMS, Nyon, Switzerland) device, a probe that provides ultrasonic and mechanical calculi fragmentation and suction in a single instrument. Case Presentation We describe the first reported case of percutaneous cystolitholapaxy using the LithoClast Trilogy device in a 41-year-old woman with spina bifida, and multiple large bladder calculi with a history of ileocystoplasty and Mitrofanoff formation, and a bladder neck closure for neuropathic bladder. The calculi measured 31 and 25 mm, and had a volume of 19.6 and 7.9 cm3 and average HU of 408 and 462, respectively. The calculi were composed of 37% calcium phosphate and 63% magnesium ammonium phosphate. Conclusion We demonstrate that this approach can be used as a viable alternative to open surgery, which is of particular importance for complex patients who have undergone multiple previous open operations, and who may have a high comorbid burden.Background CT has become the gold standard for radiographic evaluation of urolithiasis. Pial arteriovenous fistula (PAVF) is a rare intracranial vascular disease, and its presentation with a huge tumor-resembling thrombus is rarer.
A 38-year-old female patient presented with a sudden left-side motor disorder and loss of consciousness. The patient was otherwise in good health and had no history of hypertension or diabetes. During the physical examination, she appeared lethargic and manifested left limb paralysis with level zero muscle strength and a positive pathological reflex.
Because imaging failed to rule out a tumor stroke, an intracranial lesion resection was performed immediately. Because the lesion was considered to be a vascular structure, digital subtraction angiography was undertaken before the surgery, and PAVF was diagnosed.
Endovascular embolization was conducted, followed by PAVF and hematoma resection.
At the 3-month follow up, her left limb muscle strength was level 4, and she could live on her own (Modified Rankin Scale score = 2).

Immunoglobulin (Ig) G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a newly recognized, systemic disease. Membranous nephropathy is the most common glomerular lesion in IgG4- related kidney disease. However, the lack of relationship with IgG4-related kidney disease and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) warrants investigation of the potential mechanisms.
A 62-year-old patient was diagnosed with IgG4-RD, tubulointerstitial nephritis, retroperitoneal fibrosis. After 2 years, she was presented with proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, facial, and bilateral lower limb edema. Furthermore, this patient exhibited deposits of IgG k of monoclonal hyperplasia, and bone marrow plasma cell count was 2.5%.
The patient was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, acute kidney injury, and MGUS. The pathological diagnosis was IgG4-related tubulointerstitial nephritis, IgG4-related membranous nephropathy.
The patient was treated with intravenous methylprednisolone (40 mg daily), which was changed to oral prednisone 50 mg/d after 2 months.

Disease pathogenesis and etiology are not fully elucidated but may be associated with the long-term intake of toxins and other substances, including Chinese herbs. The disease has typical radiological and endoscopic features. Radiologic examination combined with endoscopy can lead to a conclusive diagnosis.
We present 2 cases of IMP in male patients aged 66 and 79 years. The first patient presented with diarrhea and abdominal pain, and the second patient presented with numbness of limbs and abdominal discomfort. These patients had a history of long-term use of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM).
Both patients were diagnosed with IMP by endoscopy and radiology, and the diagnosis confirmed by biopsy in the first patient.
The first patient was advised to stop using CHM. Both patients were given conservative treatment and were followed up regularly.
Symptoms improved after conservative treatment. The patients had no obvious discomfort during the follow-up period.
We suspect that the disease is induced by the long-term use of CHM, and dosage and duration of use may determine disease severity.

To assess the inpatient adherence rate and factors associated with adherence to topical glaucoma medications (TGMs) at a single academic institution throughout hospitalization before and after an educational intervention.

Inpatients 18 years of age and older admitted to a single academic hospital from January 2014 through June 2019 with a diagnosis of glaucoma who also received TGMs.
The medication administration record during admission was examined closely to determine if the TGMs were reconciled and administered correctly before and after an educational intervention with inpatient providers. A simple intervention reached various health care providers through an educational e-mail, communication in a weekly newsletter, and a morning report presentation. Adherence was defined as administration of more than 75% of recommended doses during the inpatient stay. Other collected variables included length of stay and primary diagnosis on admission.
Adherencets should be afforded at least the opportunity to maintain adequate adherence, just as is carried out for other medications related to other chronic medical conditions.
When glaucoma patients requiring topical treatment are admitted, approximately one quarter of patients seem to not receive their medications appropriately. In this study, a simple educational intervention was able to improve adherence. To prevent daily fluctuations in intraocular pressure for vulnerable glaucoma patients, inpatient adherence to appropriate medication administration should be stressed continuously. While in the care of health care providers, inpatients should be afforded at least the opportunity to maintain adequate adherence, just as is carried out for other medications related to other chronic medical conditions.
To compare the diagnostic ability of macular intraretinal layer thickness with circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cpRNFL) thickness, either when used individually or in combination with cpRNFL for detecting early, moderate, and advanced glaucoma.
Cross-sectional study.
A total of 423 glaucoma participants and 423 age- and gender-matched normal participants.
Participants underwent Cirrus spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT) imaging (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Dublin, CA) using the optic disc and macular scanning protocols. Iowa Reference Algorithms (version 3.8.0) were used for intraretinal layer segmentation, and mean thickness of intraretinal layers was rescaled with magnification correction using axial length value. Thickness measurements of each layer/sector and their corresponding areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) were obtained. Glaucoma eyes were subdivided based on of their visual field severity (early, n= 234; moderate, n= 107; advanced, n= 82).

To prevent daily fluctuations in intraocular pressure for vulnerable glaucoma patients, inpatient adherence to appropriate medication administration should be stressed continuously. While in the care of health care providers, inpatients should be afforded at least the opportunity to maintain adequate adherence, just as is carried out for other medications related to other chronic medical conditions. To compare the diagnostic ability of macular intraretinal layer thickness with circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cpRNFL) thickness, either when used individually or in combination with cpRNFL for detecting early, moderate, and advanced glaucoma. Cross-sectional study. A total of 423 glaucoma participants and 423 age- and gender-matched normal participants. Participants underwent Cirrus spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT) imaging (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Dublin, CA) using the optic disc and macular scanning protocols. Iowa Reference Algorithms (version 3.8.0) were used for intraretinal layer segmentation, and mean thickness of intraretinal layers was rescaled with magnification correction using axial length value. Thickness measurements of each layer/sector and their corresponding areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) were obtained. Podocyte injury in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and minimal change disease (MCD) results from the imbalance between adaptive responses that maintain homeostasis and cellular dysfunction that can culminate in cell death. Therefore, an in situ analysis was performed to detect morphological changes related to cell death and autophagy in renal biopsies from adult patients with podocytopathies. Forty-nine renal biopsies from patients with FSGS (n = 22) and MCD (n = 27) were selected. In situ expression of Wilms Tumor 1 protein (WT1), light chain microtubule 1-associated protein (LC3) and caspase-3 protein were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. The foot process effacement and morphological alterations related to podocyte cell death and autophagy were analyzed with transmission electronic microscopy. Reduction in the density of WT1-labeled podocytes was observed for FSGS and MCD cases as compared to controls. Foot process width (FPW) in control group was lower than in cases of podocytopathies. The tumor microenvironment (TME) is increasingly appreciated as an important determinant of cancer outcome, including in multiple myeloma (MM). However, most myeloma microenvironment studies have been based on bone marrow (BM) aspirates, which often do not fully reflect the cellular content of BM tissue itself. To address this limitation in myeloma research, we systematically characterized the whole bone marrow (WBM) microenvironment during premalignant, baseline, on treatment, and post-treatment phases.
Between 2004 and 2019, 998 BM samples were taken from 436 patients with newly diagnosed MM (NDMM) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States of America. These patients were 61% male and 39% female, 89% White, 8% Black, and 3% other/refused, with a mean age of 58 years. Using WBM and matched cluster of differentiation (CD)138-selected tumor gene expression to control for tumor burden, we identified a subgroup of patients with an adverse TME associated with 17clinical (ISS stage III) and tumor (GEP-70) criteria as high risk. The main limitations of this study are that it relies on computationally identified cell types and that patients were treated with thalidomide rather than current therapies.
In this study, we observe that granulocyte signatures in the MM TME contribute to a more accurate prognosis. Multiple machine learning models have been trained for stock portfolio selection, but their practical applicability remains limited due to the challenges posed by the characteristic of a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the nature of time-series data, and non-independent identical distribution in financial data. Here, we transformed the stock selection task into a matching problem between a group of stocks and a stock selection target. We proposed a novel representation algorithm of stock selection target and a novel deep matching algorithm (TS-Deep-LtM). Then we proposed a deep stock profiling method to extract the optimal feature combination and trained a deep matching model based on TS-Deep-LtM algorithm for stock portfolio selection. Especially, TS-Deep-LtM algorithm was obtained by setting statistical indicators to filter and integrate three deep text matching algorithms. This parallel framework design made it good at capturing signals from time-series data and adapting to non-independent identically distributed data.

This study investigates associations between after-school tutoring and availability of electronic devices with overweight/obesity among fifth-grade children in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. A complex cross-sectional design was used to randomly select students and their parents in 8 public schools in Ho Chi Minh City in 2016. Students were categorized as overweight/obesity if their body mass index z score >+1 using the World Health Organization reference. Parents self-reported child's attendance in after-school tutoring and availability of electronic devices at home. Sampling weights were used to account for unequal selection probability and nonresponses in analyses. Students attending tutoring were more likely to be overweight/obesity (odds ratio = 1.59, P less then .001). Overweight/obesity students spent on average about 1.5 hours/week more attending tutoring; most of these hours were during weekdays (P less then .05). Students living in households with ≥2 types of devices were more likely to be overweight/obesity (odds ratio = 2.83, P less then .001). Strategies to reduce study sitting time and the use of electronic devices may help with childhood overweight/obesity prevention.
Sleep disturbance, a core feature of bipolar disorder, is associated with residual mood symptoms, mood episode recurrence and suicide ideation. We investigated the effect of evening light exposure on sleep in patients with bipolar disorder.
In this longitudinal analysis, we measured the sleep parameters of 207 outpatients with bipolar disorder using actigraphy at their homes for seven consecutive nights. We measured the white-light illuminance and the irradiance of each wavelength during the 4 hours before each participant's bedtime. We used mixed-effect linear regression analysis for repeated measures to evaluate the effect of evening light exposure on subsequent sleep parameters.
The median white-light illuminance was 25.8 lux (interquartile range, 12.9-50.1 lux). In a multivariable model adjusted for potential confounders, we found higher white-light illuminance to be significantly associated with lower sleep efficiency (per log lux 95% confidence interval = [-1.328, -0.133];
= 0.017), prolonged sleep-onset latency (95% confidence interval = [0.006, 0.172];
= 0.035) and longer wake after sleep onset (95% confidence interval = [1.104, 4.459];
= 0.001). This effect size was larger in the younger age group (aged < 44 years) stratified by median age. Higher irradiance of the blue wavelength range was significantly associated with longer wake after sleep onset, a result similar to those for the green and red wavelength ranges.

Young people affected by mental health disorders have greater sexual health needs compared to their peers. Less is known about this need across illness severity.
A cross-sectional survey of the sexual health of those attending outpatients or inpatients within a youth mental health service was conducted. Statistical differences between groups were explored.
One hundred and seven young people (18-25 years) participated and of these, 37.7% were inpatients who had more severe psychiatric symptoms than outpatients. While inpatients were as likely to be sexually active as outpatients, they were significantly less likely to have a regular sexual partner (25% vs 64.5%). Additionally, they used amphetamines more frequently during sex (28.6% vs 5.8%). Sexual dysfunction was experienced by 55.6% of inpatients and 37.9% of outpatients.
High-risk sexual behaviours and sexual dysfunction were highly prevalent in both groups. For some behaviours and dysfunction, this prevalence was higher in the inpatient population. Holistic clinical services that address the mental, physical

A total of 1138 patients who underwent coronary CTA for suspected *** were included in the study. For the categorization of the coronary atherosclerotic plaque (CAP), the coronary system was divided into 16 segments. For each segment, CAPs were categorized as calcified, noncalcified, and mixed. All-cause and cardiovascular (CV) mortality data were collected for prognostic evaluation. Coronary CTA analyses showed that 34.5% of patients had noncalcified CAP, 14.5% of patients had calcified CAP, and 11% of patients had mixed CAP. During a median of 141.5 months follow-up, CV and all-cause mortality was observed in 57 (5%) and 149 (13.1%) patients, respectively. In multivariable Cox regression analysis, calcified CAP morphology and the extent of involved segments were significant predictors of both CV and all-cause mortality. The presence of calcified CAP morphology and the higher number of diseased coronary segments via coronary CTA might help stratify patients at risk for adverse CV outcomes during long-term follow-up. Patients with these features at index coronary CTA may be evaluated more closely with aggressive preventive measures.

Diet was assessed via 2 interviewer-administered 24-hour dietary recalls. Physical activity was objectively-measured with accelerometry for 7 days. Adherence was defined as a Healthy Eating Index-2015 score of ≥70 and/or ≥6 hours/day of light, moderate and vigorous activity.
For each predictor, logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios for adherence to the diet guidelines only, the activity guidelines only or both guidelines.
In the full sample, 29% of children were non-adherent to both guidelines, 6% adhered to the dietary guidelines only, 50% adhered to the activity guidelines only and 14% adhered to both.

Sarcoidosis has a wide varying presentation. Pulmonary sarcoidosis typically presents with bilateral hilar adenopathy and reticulonodular opacities. Very rarely it can present as a single solitary mass. Here we present a case of a 39 year old African-American male who presented with cough and pleuritic chest pain. Initial imaging revealed a right lower lobe airspace opacity, concerning for pneumonia. Despite treatment with antibiotics, symptoms and radiological findings persisted. A PET scan revealed a FDG positive right lower lobe pulmonary mass. Biopsy of the mass and lymph nodes revealed non-caseating granulomas suggestive of sarcoidosis. This case showcases a rare presentation of pulmonary nodular sarcoidosis.Lipoid pneumonia presents with a variety of lung abnormalities, particularly mass forming lesions that mimic lung cancers. While 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) is expected to discriminate both diseases, some previous reports showed pseudo-positive FDG uptake in lipoid pneumonia. Here, we report a case of pathologically proven chronic lipoid pneumonia in a 78-year-old Japanese man. Computed tomography (CT) showed multi-lobar mass-forming lesions with a fat-density. PET confirmed the spotty accumulation of FDG in the corresponding fat-density area on CT, suggesting lipoid pneumonia. We reviewed the literature and discussed the FDG uptake patterns in lipoid pneumonia.A 58-year-old male patient with a bronchopleural fistula underwent endoscopic installation of an occluder at the mouth of the fistula. The fistula was located in the stump of the main bronchus of the right lung after a pulmonectomy in 2019. During medical bronchoscopy, mucopurulent contents were actively received from the mouth of the fistula. To close the fistula, the patient was simultaneously drained of the pleural cavity by Bulau and installed an occluder from an improvised tool designed for cleaning the endoscope's biopsy channel. In dynamics, purulent contents do not come from the mouth of the fistula and the liquid content in the pleural cavity has significantly decreased. The patient with improved General condition was discharged for observation at the place of residence.Necrotizing pneumonia is a severe complication of pneumonia, characterized by local destruction of lung tissue with development of multiple small cavities (abscesses) and may be associated with empyema. Empyema is an unusual complication in neonates with limited data reported. We present a healthy term neonate with late-onset sepsis caused by Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia due to severe necrotizing pneumonia associated with advanced stage empyema. To the best of our knowledge this is the youngest reported patient with multifocal lung abscesses associated with stage 2 empyema treated successfully without surgical intervention.

We present a series of 3 cases of primary spontaneous pneumothorax with Covid-19 pneumonia. All cases in our series did not require positive pressure ventilation and none had any pre-existing lung disease. All were never smokers and had favourable outcomes despite having severe Covid-19 with a pneumothorax during the course of the disease. In our literature review we discuss several plausible mechanisms and risk factors resulting in a pneumothorax with Covid-19.
Our cases are a reminder that an acute deterioration with hypoxia in a Covid-19 patient could indicate a pneumothorax. Pneumothorax is one of the reported complications in Covid-19 and clinician vigilance is required during assessment of patients, as both share the common symptom of breathlessness and therefore can mimic each other.

This study aimed to investigate the relation between vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in different oral lichen planus (OLP) forms compared to control patients.
Biopsies from 60 patients were selected and equally distributed as follows reticular/popular OLP (R/PLP), atrophic/erosive OLP (A/ELP) patients, healthy subjects (Control). All biopsies were immune-histochemical stained and statistically analyzed for VEGF and MMP-2 expression.
Immune-expression of VEGF was significant between OLP and control (
-value <0.001). OLP showed a higher epithelial expression of VEGF in A/ELP compared to R/PLP (15.19±2.53). In connective tissue (CT), R/PLP showed a higher VEGF expression (11.57±2.32) compared to A/ELP (9.87±2.48); (p<0.001), with no significant difference (
-value≥0.05). A significant epithelial expression of MMP-2 was seen in A/ELP compared to R/PLP (21.32±7.08). R/PLP showed a higher expression of MMP-2 (20.45±6.28) in CT compared to A/ELP group (17.66±6.94), with a non-significant difference (
