PPPS alleviated lipopolysaccharide (LPS) -induced Caco2 cell damage, indicating that PPPS has the ability to reduce the damage and effectively improve the barrier dysfunction in Caco2 cells. Fast and stable solid-state lithium plating and stripping occur without side reactions. The 2D layered nanostructure has more active sites and a shorter diffusion length, and forms stable interfaces with the electrolyte. The present work reveals a facile synthesis route of novel 2D materials and paves an efficient pathway for high-capacity and safe bismuth-based anodes for lithium batteries.How adsorbate-adsorbate interaction determines the functional shape of an adsorption isotherm is an important and challenging question. However, a successful fitting of an isotherm on its own is insufficient to prove the correctness of the model assumptions. Instead, starting from the principles of statistical thermodynamics, we propose how adsorbate-adsorbate interactions can be quantified from an isotherm. This was made possible by extending the key tools of solution statistical thermodynamics to adsorbates at the interface, namely, the Kirkwood-Buff and McMillan-Mayer theories, as well as their relationship to the thermodynamic phase stability condition. When capillary condensation and interfacial phase transition are absent, adsorbate-adsorbate interactions can be quantified from an isotherm using the Kirkwood-Buff integrals, and virial coefficients can yield multiple-body interaction between adsorbates. Such quantities can be obtained directly from the fitting parameters for the well-known isotherm models (e.g., Langmuir, BET). The size of the adsorbate cluster involved in capillary condensation and interfacial phase transition can also be evaluated from the isotherm, which was demonstrated for the adsorption isotherm of water on activated carbons of varying pore sizes from the literature. We analyzed river water and rainwater samples to characterize the variation in hydrochemical characteristics and influencing factors. Samples were taken from the Liuxi River Basin (LRB), the only local drinking water supply for Guangzhou, and we studied geochemical parameters, major ions, and Si concentrations. Moreover, elemental ratios of end-members were determined and a modified-forward model was constructed to identify ion sources and estimate the chemical weathering rate (CWR) and anthropogenic input rate (AIR). Finally, we quantified the impacts of anthropogenic activity on the chemical weathering process. The results showed that the dominant hydrochemical type of river water was identified as HCO3-Ca, and rock weathering was the main contributor to river Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+ and HCO3-, whereas anthropogenic activity contributed the most to K+, Cl-, SO42-, and NO3-. The relatively high silicate weathering rate (SWR) (17.8-18.4 t per km2 per year) and AIR (37.8-60.3 t per km2 per year) were mainly attributed to erosion by nitric and sulfuric acid. In total, 123 urban and 128 peri-urban non-smoking participants were recruited from two well-established cohorts in Beijing. During winter 2016 and summer 2017, each participant was instructed to carry a validated personal air monitor (PAM) to measure PM2.5 concentration at high spatiotemporal resolution for seven consecutive days in each season. Multiple inflammatory biomarkers were measured, including exhaled NO, blood monocytes counts and C-reactive protein. Linear mixed-effect models were used for the associations between exposure and health outcomes with adjustment for confounders. The average level of daily personal exposure to PM2.5 was consistently lower than using corresponding ambient concentration, and the difference is greater during the winter. The personal to ambient (P/A) ratio of exposure to PM2.5 exhibited an exponentially declining trend, and showed larger variations when ambient PM2.5 levels less then 25 μg m-3. Personal exposure to PM2.5 was significantly associated with the increase in respiratory and systemic inflammatory biomarkers; however, the associations were weaker or became insignificant when ambient concentrations were used. Exposure to ambient PM2.5 might not be a good proxy to estimate the health effect of exposure to personal PM2.5.

Although comprehensive reporting guidelines for implementation strategy use within implementation research exist, they are rarely used by clinical (i.e., efficacy and effectiveness) researchers. In this debate, we argue that the lack of comprehensive reporting of implementation strategy use and alignment of those strategies with implementation outcomes within clinical research is a missed opportunity to efficiently narrow research-to-practice gaps.
We review ways that comprehensively specifying implementation strategy use can advance science, including enhancing replicability of clinical trials and reducing the time from clinical research to public health impact. We then propose that revisions to frequently used reporting guidelines in clinical research (e.g., CONSORT, TIDieR) are needed, review current methods for reporting implementation strategy use (e.g., utilizing StaRI), provide pragmatic suggestions on how to both prospectively and retrospectively specify implementation strategy use and align these strategies with implementation outcomes within clinical research, and offer a case study of using these methods.
The approaches recommended in this article will not only contribute to shared knowledge and language among clinical and implementation researchers but also facilitate the replication of efficacy and effectiveness research. Ultimately, we hope to accelerate translation from clinical to implementation research in order to expedite improvements in public health.

Blastocystis sp. is one of the most common enteric parasites of humans and animals worldwide. It is well recognized that this ubiquitous protist displays a remarkable degree of genetic diversity in the SSU rRNA gene, which is currently the main gene used for defining Blastocystis subtypes. Yet, full-length reference sequences of this gene are available for only 16 subtypes of Blastocystis in part because of the technical difficulties associated with obtaining these sequences from complex samples.
We have developed a method using Oxford Nanopore MinION long-read sequencing and universal eukaryotic primers to produce full-length (> 1800bp) SSU rRNA gene sequences for Blastocystis. Seven Blastocystis specimens representing five subtypes (ST1, ST4, ST10, ST11, and ST14) obtained both from cultures and feces were used for validation.
We demonstrate that this method can be used to produce highly accurate full-length sequences from both cultured and fecal DNA isolates. Full-length sequences were successfully obtained from all five subtypes including ST11 for which no full-length reference sequence currently exists and for an isolate that contained mixed ST10/ST14.

Considering different analyses, the cumulative size of posterior deep infiltrative endometriosis (DIE) (less than 1cm) is significantly correlated with minimal severity of dyspareunia and chronic pelvic pain. The incidence of dyspareunia was more prevalent in patients with complete stenosis of Douglas pouch than those with incomplete stenosis. Furthermore, the incidence of severe and very severe pain in patients with Douglas pouch stenosis is relatively higher than that in patients without stenosis. Only dyspareunia is related to the stage of endometriosis, and patients with dyspareunia arndometriosis and the severity of Douglas pouch stenosis. The results showed a correlation between chronic pelvic pain and r-ASRM score (revised American Society for Reproductive Medicine score).
In a bid to reduce infection rates by COVID-19 the authorities in some countries, in collaboration with medical regulators and experts, have employed digital technologies to control and regulate citizens' behavior. Public opinion and the public's compliance with these technologies come into play here. The objective of the present study was to examine attitudes expressed in the public discourse toward the use of digital technologies to control people's behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic, as reflected in the media.
Qualitative analysis was performed on posts and comments submitted in response to 12 articles that appeared on the four leading Israeli news sites, on three significant occasions first, upon the announcement of the use of surveillance technologies by the Israeli security agency (ISA); second, upon the announcement of the launch of the Health Ministry's app that tracks contacts with COVID-19 patients; and third, following reports of petitions lodged with Israel's supreme court challenging the untext of this pandemic has highlighted the interrelatedness of advanced digital surveillance technologies, medical care, and social control exercised by authorities and medical regulators and experts, which raises issues of transparency, trust and mistrust among the public. These issues become all the more relevant when the number of patients grows rapidly, the authorities need to deal with the extended ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the country has entered a second lockdown, and the public must be persuaded to comply with highly restrictive regulations. Recommendations to policy makers, practical implications, and suggestions for future research are discussed.

One example is the heterologous production of rhamnolipids using Pseudomonas putida KT2440. Typically, the synthesis is accompanied by strong foam formation in the reactor vessel hampering the process. It is caused by the extensive bubbling needed to sustain the high respirative oxygen demand in the presence of the produced surfactants. One way to reduce the oxygen requirement is to enable the cells to use the anode of a bioelectrochemical system (BES) as an alternative sink for their metabolically derived electrons. We here used a P. putida KT2440 strain that interacts with the anode using mediated extracellular electron transfer via intrinsically produced phenazines, to perform heterologous rhamnolipid production under oxygen limitation. The strain P. putida RL-PCA successfully produced 30.4 ± 4.7 mg/L mono-rhamnolipids together with 11.2 ± 0.8 mg/L of phenazine-1-carboxylic acid (PCA) in 500-mL benchtop BES reactors and 30.5 ± 0.5 mg/L rhamnolipids accompanied by 25.7 ± 8.0 mg/L PCA in electrode containing standard 1-L bioreactors. The X-specific gene content of Coleonyx elegans was revealed to be partially homologous to genomic regions linked to the chicken autosomes 1, 6 and 11. A qPCR-based test was applied to validate a subset of X-specific genes by comparing the difference in gene copy numbers between sexes, and to explore the homology of sex chromosomes across eleven eublepharid, two phyllodactylid and one sphaerodactylid species. Homologous sex chromosomes are shared between Coleonyx elegans and Coleonyx mitratus, two species diverged approximately 34 million years ago, but not with other tested species. Haplotype-resolved or phased genome assembly provides a complete picture of genomes and their complex genetic variations. However, current algorithms for phased assembly either do not generate chromosome-scale phasing or require pedigree information, which limits their application. We present a method named diploid assembly (DipAsm) that uses long, accurate reads and long-range conformation data for single individuals to generate a chromosome-scale phased assembly within 1 day. Applied to four public human genomes, PGP1, HG002, NA12878 and HG00733, DipAsm produced haplotype-resolved assemblies with minimum contig length needed to cover 50% of the known genome (NG50) up to 25 Mb and phased ~99.5% of heterozygous sites at 98-99% accuracy, outperforming other approaches in terms of both contiguity and phasing completeness. We demonstrate the importance of chromosome-scale phased assemblies for the discovery of structural variants (SVs), including thousands of new transposon insertions, and of highly polymorphic and medically important regions such as the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) and killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) regions. Disruption of Gli1 in Foxo1M-KO livers deteriorated liver function, diminished Snail, and augmented RIPK3 and NEK7/NLRP3. Mechanistically, macrophage Foxo1 and β-catenin colocalized in the nucleus, whereby the Foxo1 competed with T-cell factor (TCF) for interaction with β-catenin under inflammatory conditions. There were concerns regarding the risk of bias within individual studies and Egger's test of the intercept showed evidence of small study effects (β = -3.6, p = .004). These findings provide in vitro evidence that the transient serological responses to acute exercises reduce cancer cell growth, although many questions remain regarding the underlying mechanistic pathways and potential effect modifiers. Detailed investigations have revealed that Cryptosporidium (C.) oocysts contain dsRNA segments which are recently classified under the Partitiviridae family. The relationship between parasite and virus whether or not affect the clinical outcomes of newborn calf diarrhoea is not apparent. The aim of this study was the identification and characterization of Cryptosporidium parvum virus-1 (CSpV1) from newborn calves. We also aimed to understand that parasite-virus symbiont relationship role in the severity of disease cases. Parasitic screening was performed with the help of morphological examinations, immunoassay and molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods. To further identification of C. parvum oocysts, confocal laser, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image analysis were used for the morphological investigations. Software-based in silico comparison and identity analyses were conducted from the CSpV1 genome for the genomic sequence characterizations. Cryptosporidium prevalence was 56.2% in newborn calf diarrhoeal cases. Virus dsRNA segments isolated from purified and clarified oocysts. Sequence results showed that we have successfully isolated CSpV1 from C. parvum oocysts. Virus RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) was found to be highly variable and showed a species-specific relationship with their carriers. Describe the screening and recruitment process of a randomised trial and evaluate associations with knee pain and function three months after total knee replacement (TKR).
To screen for a multi-centre trial, 5036 patients were sent an Oxford Knee Score (OKS) questionnaire 10 weeks post-TKR. Patients who reported pain in their replaced knee (≤14 on OKS pain component), completed a second OKS 12 weeks post-TKR. Those still experiencing pain 12 weeks post-TKR completed a detailed questionnaire 13 weeks post-TKR. These data were used to characterise pain in a cross-sectional analysis. Multivariable regression was performed, identifying factors associated with pain and function at 13 weeks post-TKR.
We received OKS questionnaires from 3058/5063 (60%) TKR patients, 907/3058 (30%) reported pain in their replaced knee 10-weeks post-operatively. By 12-weeks, 179/553 (32%) patients reported improved pain (OKS>14). At 13-weeks, 192/363 (53%) who completed a detailed questionnaire reported neuropathic pain, 94/362 (26%) reported depression symptoms and 95/363 (26%) anxiety symptoms. More severe pain at 13-weeks post-operatively was associated with poorer general health, poorer physical health, more pain worry and lower satisfaction with surgery outcome. More severe functional limitation was associated with higher levels of depression, more pain worry, lower satisfaction with surgery outcome and higher pain acceptance.

In this article, we summarize a synthetic methodology to display an azide group at the chain end of a RAFT polymer, thus presenting a reactive site on the polymer terminus. This platform enables a click reaction between azide-terminated polymers and alkyne-containing molecules, providing a broadly applicable scaffold for chemical and bioconjugation reactions on RAFT polymers. Detailed investigations have revealed that Cryptosporidium (C.) oocysts contain dsRNA segments which are recently classified under the Partitiviridae family. The relationship between parasite and virus whether or not affect the clinical outcomes of newborn calf diarrhoea is not apparent. The aim of this study was the identification and characterization of Cryptosporidium parvum virus-1 (CSpV1) from newborn calves. We also aimed to understand that parasite-virus symbiont relationship role in the severity of disease cases. Parasitic screening was performed with the help of morphological examinations, immunoassay and molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods. To further identification of C. parvum oocysts, confocal laser, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image analysis were used for the morphological investigations. Software-based in silico comparison and identity analyses were conducted from the CSpV1 genome for the genomic sequence characterizations. Cryptosporidium prevalence was 56.2% in newborn calf diarrhoeal cases. Virus dsRNA segments isolated from purified and clarified oocysts. Sequence results showed that we have successfully isolated CSpV1 from C. parvum oocysts. Virus RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) was found to be highly variable and showed a species-specific relationship with their carriers. Describe the screening and recruitment process of a randomised trial and evaluate associations with knee pain and function three months after total knee replacement (TKR). To screen for a multi-centre trial, 5036 patients were sent an Oxford Knee Score (OKS) questionnaire 10 weeks post-TKR. Patients who reported pain in their replaced knee (≤14 on OKS pain component), completed a second OKS 12 weeks post-TKR. Those still experiencing pain 12 weeks post-TKR completed a detailed questionnaire 13 weeks post-TKR. These data were used to characterise pain in a cross-sectional analysis. Multivariable regression was performed, identifying factors associated with pain and function at 13 weeks post-TKR. We received OKS questionnaires from 3058/5063 (60%) TKR patients, 907/3058 (30%) reported pain in their replaced knee 10-weeks post-operatively. By 12-weeks, 179/553 (32%) patients reported improved pain (OKS>14). At 13-weeks, 192/363 (53%) who completed a detailed questionnaire reported neuropathic pain, 94/362 (26%) reported depression symptoms and 95/363 (26%) anxiety symptoms. More severe pain at 13-weeks post-operatively was associated with poorer general health, poorer physical health, more pain worry and lower satisfaction with surgery outcome. More severe functional limitation was associated with higher levels of depression, more pain worry, lower satisfaction with surgery outcome and higher pain acceptance. Although superfine powdered activated carbon has excellent adsorption properties, it is not used in conventional water treatment processes comprising coagulation-flocculation, sedimentation, and sand filtration (CSF) due to concerns about its residual in treated water. Here, we examined the production and fate of very fine carbon particles with lacking in charge neutralization as a source of the residual in sand filtrate after CSF treatment. Almost all of the carbon particles in the water were charge-neutralized by coagulation treatment with rapid mixing, but a very small amount (≤0.4% of the initial concentration) of very fine carbon particles with a lesser degree of charge neutralization were left behind in coagulation process. Such carbon particles, defined as stray carbon particles, were hardly removed by subsequent flocculation and sedimentation processes, and some of them remained in the sand filtrate. The concentration of residual carbon particles in the sand filtrate varied similarly with that of the entration after coagulation treatment and the residual carbon particle concentration in sand filtrate compared with a single-chambered reactor configuration. When a normal basicity PACl that consisted mainly of monomeric Al species was used, the stray carbon particle concentration was decreased during coagulation process and then gradually decreased during subsequent flocculation process because the monomeric Al species were transformed to colloidal Al species via polymeric Al species. In contrast, when a high-basicity PACl that consisted mostly of colloidal Al species was used, coagulation treatment largely decreased the stray carbon particle concentration, which did not decrease further during subsequent flocculation process. This study investigated the microplastics in landfill leachate and in leachate treatment works, with a size detection limit down to 10 µm. The results showed that the microplastics particle and mass concentrations in the untreated leachate were 235.4 ± 17.1 item/L and 11.4 ± 0.8 µg/L, respectively, with tiny particles ( less then 50 µm) accounting for over 50%. Overall, 27 polymeric materials were detected in leachate samples, with polyethylene and polypropylene being the most abundant in the untreated leachate. The neutral buoyancy of microplastics (average density 0.94 g/cm3), together with irregular shapes, suggested they may be difficult to be removed by sedimentation. Further exploring the fate of microplastics in leachate treatment works showed that the membrane treatment effectively reduced microplastics loading to 0.14% for particle and 0.01% for mass, but the average particle density rose. The differences in polymeric materials distribution at different sampling locations and the presence of membrane-related polymer in membrane treatment effluent suggested tiny microplastics could be generated and released from membrane systems. Moreover, this study discovered that the sludge dewatering liquor could contain a high amount of microplastics, and the estimated particle loading was about 3.6 times higher than that in dewatered sludge. In winter, the high values of Na+ and Cl- in the rainwater showed the contribution from marine sources, while in summer the high concentrations of Ca2+, Mg2+, SO42-, NH4+ and NO3- reflected the contribution from both crustal and anthropogenic sources. The linear models revealed that the amount of dissolved organic carbon and of the water-soluble ions in rain samples, Ca2+, SO42-, NO3-, increases with the volume swept by the falling drops.

The increasing incidence of chronic liver disease (CLD) in the UK may be attributed to a rise in preventable risk factors, including hazardous alcohol use and type 2 diabetes. Transient elastography (TE) can rapidly stratify risk of CLD in primary care populations and provide an opportunity to raise patient awareness of risk factors.This study explores patients' experiences of TE screening in a primary care setting. In addition, patient awareness of CLD risk is explored.
This study used a qualitative process evaluation of a community screening pathway for CLD (Nottingham, UK). Participants completed semistructured interviews, which were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed thematically.
Twenty adults were purposively recruited 6 months to 2 years after TE screening. Inclusion criteria included (1) hazardous alcohol use, (2) type 2 diabetes and/or (3) persistently elevated liver enzymes without known cause.
Undergoing TE in primary care was seen as acceptable to most participants. Hazardous alcohol use was identified as the primary cause of CLD; no participants were aware of metabolic risk factors. TE improved understanding of personal risk factors and prompted contemplation of lifestyle changes across all TE stratifications. However, participants' perceptions of risk were altered by the healthcare providers' communication of TE scores.
High acceptability of TE, regardless of the risk factor, provides strong support for inclusion of TE stratification in primary care. Findings highlight the positive impact of receiving TE on risk awareness. Future clinical iterations should improve the structure and communication of TE results to patients.

To explore parent and general practitioner (GP) understanding and beliefs about food allergy testing for children with eczema.
Qualitative interview study in UK primary care within the Trial of Eczema allergy Screening Tests feasibility trial.
Semi-structured interviews with parents of children with eczema taking part in the feasibility study and GPs at practices hosting the study.
21 parents and 11 GPs were interviewed. Parents discussed a range of potential causes for eczema, including a role for food allergy. They believed allergy testing to be beneficial as it could potentially identify a cure or help reduce symptoms and they found negative tests reassuring, suggesting to them that no dietary changes were needed. GPs reported limited experience and uncertainty regarding food allergy in children with eczema. While some GPs believed referral for allergy testing could be appropriate, most were unclear about its utility. They thought it should be reserved for children with severe eczema or complex problems but wanted more information to advise parents and help guide decision making.
Parents' motivations for allergy testing are driven by the desire to improve their child's condition and exclude food allergy as a possible cause of symptoms. GPs are uncertain about the role of allergy testing and want more information about its usefulness to support parents and help inform decision making.

Including palliative care (PC) in overloaded medical curricula is a challenge, especially where there is a lack of PC specialists. We hypothesised that non-specialised rotations could provide meaningful PC learning when there are enough clinical experiences, with adequate feedback.

This was a longitudinal study that observed the development of Self-efficacy in Palliative Care (SEPC) and Thanatophobia (TS) in sixth-year medical students in different non-specialised clinical rotations in two Brazilian medical schools (MS1 and MS2). We enrolled 78 students in MS1 during the Emergency and Critical Care rotation and 56 students in MS2 during the rotation in Anaesthesiology. Both schools provide PC discussions with different learning environment and approaches.
SEPC and TS Scales were used to assess students at the beginning and the end of the rotations.
In both schools' students had an increase in SEPC and a decrease in TS scores.

Smoking rates among people living in rural and remote areas are higher and quit rates are lower over the past 10 years compared with people living in suburban and urban areas. Higher smoking rates contribute to greater tobacco-related disease and morbidity in rural and remote areas. Physical and social isolation, greater exposure to pro-tobacco marketing, pro-tobacco social norms, and lower socioeconomic and educational levels are contributing to these higher smoking rates and lower quit rates. Smoking cessation interventions for people in rural and remote areas have been conducted, however little is known about their effectiveness or their mechanisms of action as well as the quality of such research. Behaviour change techniques (BCTs) are mechanisms of action derived from behaviour change theory, such as goal setting and reward. Improved understanding of the contribution of BCTs for smoking cessation in the rural and remote population will support future intervention development. We aim to review the liter required for this systematic review. The results will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publication and at conferences by presentations.

Cognitive impairment is a precursor of dementia. This study aimed to examine the association of social engagement with cognitive decline during the process of normal ageing.
We used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/nvp-dky709.html The cognitive functions were tested at baseline, and 2-year and 4-year follow-up visits. Social engagement was constructed as a comprehensive measure including the quantity and frequency of social activities. Activities of social engagement were classified into three types. Multilevel logistic model was fitted to evaluate the prospective association between social engagement and cognitive impairment.
After 2-year follow-up, compared with participants with the lowest level of social engagement, those with level-2, level-3 and level-4 social engagement had a 12% (OR=0.88, 95% CI 0.71 to 1.09, p=0.242), 17% (OR=0.83, 95% CI 0.71 to 0.97, p=0.020) and 25% (OR=0.75, 95% CI 0.61 to 0.93, p=0.008) lower risk for developing cognitive impairment, respectively. A similar pattern of significantly protective association was found at 4-year follow-up.

Semi-structured interviews with parents of children with eczema taking part in the feasibility study and GPs at practices hosting the study. 21 parents and 11 GPs were interviewed. Parents discussed a range of potential causes for eczema, including a role for food allergy. They believed allergy testing to be beneficial as it could potentially identify a cure or help reduce symptoms and they found negative tests reassuring, suggesting to them that no dietary changes were needed. GPs reported limited experience and uncertainty regarding food allergy in children with eczema. While some GPs believed referral for allergy testing could be appropriate, most were unclear about its utility. They thought it should be reserved for children with severe eczema or complex problems but wanted more information to advise parents and help guide decision making. Parents' motivations for allergy testing are driven by the desire to improve their child's condition and exclude food allergy as a possible cause of symptoms. This is a case-series study describing cases of children with masturbation referred to the Department of Dermatology at Baghdad Medical City and Basra Teaching Hospital,central and southern Iraq, for four years (2014-2018). Children and their parents were carefully interrogated including detailed information about the problem. Local and general examinations were performed.Children with obvious genital lesions and those who proved to have urinary or gastrointestinal problems were not included.
Forty-four children with masturbation were enrolled in the study (22 females and 22 males). The only reason for referral was unremitted genital pruritus. The mean age was 3.6 years. The frequency of masturbation events was variable; the mean length of events was 5 minutes. In 80% of children,masturbation happened at any time. Behavior during the event was prone or supine posturing with rubbing of the genital area with either hands or furniture followed by facial congestion, sweating, and sleep. The majority of children (68%) belonged to low social class families.

We describe a 28-year-old male patient presenting with bleeding per rectum associated with mucus secretion, abdominal pain, anorexia, and weight loss. Blood investigation showed pancytopenia with macrocytic hypochromic anemia. Meanwhile, his colonoscopy showed two large polyps 10 cm and 50 cm away from the anal verge, each measuring 3 cm in size. Microscopic examination of multiple colonic biopsies confirmed Schistosoma mansoni. The patient was treated with praziquantel, which improved his condition. Colonic schistosomiasis is an important differential diagnosis in patients with a history of travel to endemic areas. Early diagnosis and medical management can avoid unnecessary invasive intervention in such cases.

Results Out of the 200 volunteers assessed in the present study, mean NORs counts of >2.00 were identified in 16/200(8%) of the study subjects. All 16/16(100%) cases were found with lung epithelial metaplasia (squamous metaplasia). Out of the 100 cases, mean NORs counts of >2.00 were identified in 16/100(16%), hence, all the controls were identified with mean NORs counts of <2.00. The risk of lung cellular proliferative changes associated with smoking exposure are odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval, CI) = 39.2485 (2.3199-664.0052), p = 0.0110, z statistic = 2.543.

He presented with a persistent sinus tachycardia and mild abdominal pain but no evidence of peritonitis on examination. Contrast-enhanced CT showed widespread distribution of packets from the stomach to the sigmoid colon. He was taken to theater for emergency laparotomy and retrieval of the packets, which was done successfully without the need of any bowel resection. He was then discharged to police custody following a 10-day admission. This is the highest number of cocaine packets reported in the UK literature. This case report discusses the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in safely managing body packers who also present with signs of cocaine toxicity.Introduction Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is one of the most common indications for spinal surgery. Traditionally, decompression is achieved by removing bony and ligamentous structures through open surgery. However, recent studies have shown that symptomatic relief can be accomplished in many patients by increasing intervertebral and interpedicular height using fusion alone. In this study, we evaluate whether trans-Kambin oblique lateral lumbar interbody fusion (OLLIF) can effectively and safely relieve symptoms of LSS when an indication for fusion is present. Methods This is a retrospective single surgeon cohort study of 187 patients with LSS who underwent 189 OLLIF procedures between 2012 and August 2, 2019. Inclusion criteria for this study were age >18 years with symptoms of LSS, including pain, sensory, and motor deficits, and an additional indication for fusion, which included spondylolisthesis, degenerative disk disease, disk herniation, or scoliosis. Exclusion criteria were the bony obstruction of the approach, osteogenic spinal canal stenosis, large facet hypertrophy, and listhesis grade II or greater.

Adrenomedullin 2 (AM2), a member of the calcitonin gene-related peptide family, has been known to have anti-inflammatory effects. Here, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory effects of AM2 in LPS-activated microglia and BV2 cells. The endogenous mRNA and protein expressions of AM2, calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CLR), receptor activity-modifying proteins (RAMPs) including RAMP1, RAMP2 and RAMP3 and the production of inflammatory mediators including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) were detected by RT-PCR and Western blot. Our results revealed that LPS (1 μg/mL) significantly stimulated CLR, RAMP1, RAMP2 and RAMP3 protein expressions in BV2 microglia cells, but AM2 had a significant decrease. However, the mRNA levels of AM2, CLR, and RAMP1/2/3 were all markedly increased. LPS also induced obvious increases in mRNA and protein levels of the inflammatory mediators (TNF-α, IL-1β, COX2 and iNOS). More importantly, AM2 (10 nM) administration effectively inhibited the mRNA and protein expressions of these mediators induced by LPS and increased the cAMP content in LPS-stimulated BV2 cells. The aim of this study was to develop a scale to measure nursing students' competence in managing violence from patients and relatives in the hospital where nursing students perform clinical practicum.
Literature review and Delphi expert consultation were utilized to develop the content of the management of workplace violence competence scale (MWVCS). A convenience sample of 797 nursing students responded to the questionnaire. Exploratory factor analysis of the scale was performed. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were examined.
The MWVCS consisted of 40 items with a five-point scale. Seven factors explained 63.2% of the total explained variance. The content validity index for the scale was .99. Cronbach'sα of the scale was .96, and test-retest correlations were found to be≥.76.
The MWVCS is a reliable and valid scale for nursing educators to assess the level of students' competence in violence management and to evaluate the effectiveness of education to enhance their ability to manage workplace violence.

Participants included 204 cancer survivors in the extended cancer survivor stage, 6months after returning to work, who were treated at two tertiary hospital cancer centers. The data were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 20.0 for confirmatory factor analysis to assess the hypothesis fit and verify the hypothesis.
Factors affecting cancer survivors' quality of working liferesulted in cancer stigma and social support (explanatory power was 43.1%) and the model showed acceptable goodness of fit. In the final model, cancer stigma had a significant direct effect on social support and indirect effect on organizational health, employee health, and QWL. Additionally, social support had significant direct effect on organizational health, employee health and QWL.
Based on the results of this study, there is a need to develop strategies and effective intervention programs that can increase the support of supervisors and colleagues for improving overall quality of work life. Furthermore, the development of policies and intervention programs to reduce cancer stigma for the purpose of transforming perceptions through education and public relations which are indirect factors that affect the quality of work life, can contribute to improving the quality of work life for cancer survivors.

These last months, dozens of SARS-CoV-2 serological tests have become available with varying performances. A major effort was completed to compare 17 serological tests available in April 2020 in Switzerland.
In a preliminary phase, we compared 17 IgG, IgM, IgA and pan Ig serological tests including ELISA, LFA, CLIA and ECLIA on a panel of 182 sera, comprising 113 sera from hospitalized patients with a positive RT-PCR, and 69 sampled before 1st November 2019, expected to give a positive and negative results, respectively. In a second phase, the five best performing and most available tests were further evaluated on a total of 582 sera (178 and 404 expected positive and negative, respectively), allowing the assessment of 20 possible cross-reactions with other viruses.
In the preliminary phase, among eight IgG/pan-Ig ELISA or CLIA/ECLIA tests, five had a sensitivity and specificity above 90 % and 98 % respectively, and on six IgM/IgA tests, only one was acceptable. Only one LFA test on three showed good performances for both IgG and IgM.

Based on the results of this study, there is a need to develop strategies and effective intervention programs that can increase the support of supervisors and colleagues for improving overall quality of work life. Furthermore, the development of policies and intervention programs to reduce cancer stigma for the purpose of transforming perceptions through education and public relations which are indirect factors that affect the quality of work life, can contribute to improving the quality of work life for cancer survivors. These last months, dozens of SARS-CoV-2 serological tests have become available with varying performances. A major effort was completed to compare 17 serological tests available in April 2020 in Switzerland. In a preliminary phase, we compared 17 IgG, IgM, IgA and pan Ig serological tests including ELISA, LFA, CLIA and ECLIA on a panel of 182 sera, comprising 113 sera from hospitalized patients with a positive RT-PCR, and 69 sampled before 1st November 2019, expected to give a positive and negative results, respectively. In a second phase, the five best performing and most available tests were further evaluated on a total of 582 sera (178 and 404 expected positive and negative, respectively), allowing the assessment of 20 possible cross-reactions with other viruses. In the preliminary phase, among eight IgG/pan-Ig ELISA or CLIA/ECLIA tests, five had a sensitivity and specificity above 90 % and 98 % respectively, and on six IgM/IgA tests, only one was acceptable.
