Our results suggest that SARS-CoV-2 infection causes a plethora of changes in cytokine profiles and that particularly in severely ill patients, these changes are consistent with the presence of macrophage activation syndrome and could furthermore be used as a biomarker to predict disease severity.Previous studies have related pair-bonding in Microtus ochrogaster, the prairie vole, with plastic changes in several brain regions. However, the interactions between these socially relevant regions have yet to be described. In this study, we used resting-state magnetic resonance imaging to explore bonding behaviors and functional connectivity of brain regions previously associated with pair-bonding. Thirty-two male and female prairie voles were scanned at baseline, 24 hr, and 2 weeks after the onset of cohabitation. By using network-based statistics, we identified that the functional connectivity of a corticostriatal network predicted the onset of affiliative behavior, while another predicted the amount of social interaction during a partner preference test. Furthermore, a network with significant changes in time was revealed, also showing associations with the level of partner preference. All TDF proteins localized to mitochondria, where they were found to participate in RNA processing RRD1 in mRNA deadenylation, and RRD2 and RID4 in mRNA editing. Further analysis suggested that LR fasciation in the TDF mutants is triggered by reactive oxygen species generation caused by defective mitochondrial respiration. We found that the scaled carrying capacity, maximum CD4+ count relative to an HIV-negative individual of similar age, and baseline scaled CD4+ counts were closer to healthy values in children than in adults. Post-ART initiation, CD4+ growth rate was inversely correlated with baseline CD4+ T-cell counts, and consequently higher in adults than children. More broadly, these complex biological and disease states can be detected as common factors emerging from the relationships among measured variables using multivariate approaches. 'Syndromics' refers to an analytical framework for measuring disease states using principal component analysis and related multivariate statistics as primary tools for extracting underlying disease patterns. A key part of the syndromic workflow is the interpretation, the visualization, and the study of robustness of the main components that characterize the disease space. We present a new software package, syndRomics, an open-source R package with utility for component visualization, interpretation, and stability for syndromic analysis. We document the implementation of syndRomics and illustrate the use of the package in case studies of neurological trauma data.Postmortem lung pathology of a patient in Japan with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection showed diffuse alveolar damage as well as bronchopneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae infection. Cigarette smoking is associated with worse cognition and decreased cortical volume and thickness in healthy cohorts. Chronic cigarette smoking is prevalent in schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD), but the effects of smoking status on the brain and cognition in SSD are not clear. This study aimed to understand whether cognitive performance and brain morphology differed between smoking and non-smoking individuals with SSD compared to healthy controls.
Data were obtained from the Australian Schizophrenia Research Bank. Cognitive functioning was measured in 299 controls and 455 SSD patients. Cortical volume, thickness and surface area data were analysed from T1-weighted structural scans obtained in a subset of the sample (n = 82 controls, n = 201 SSD). Associations between smoking status (cigarette smoker/non-smoker), cognition and brain morphology were tested using analyses of covariance, including diagnosis as a moderator.
No smoking by diagnosis interactions were evident, and no significant differences were revealed between smokers and non-smokers across any of the variables measured, with the exception of a significantly thinner left posterior cingulate in smokers compared to non-smokers. Several main effects of smoking in the cognitive, volume and thickness analyses were initially significant but did not survive false discovery rate (FDR) correction.

The main component of radioactivity in the plasma, urine, and faeces was mirogabalin. A204-4455 (lactam form), mirogabalin N-glucuronide, and glucuronide of oxidized A204-4455 were detected as minor components in the specimens. Renal clearance of mirogabalin was higher than the glomerular filtration rate of the human kidneys, indicating renal secretion is involved in the clearance.In vitro studies revealed that UDP-glucuronosyltransferase produced two metabolites A204-4455, formed via mirogabalin acylglucuronide, and a ring-opened form of mirogabalin N-glucuronide.Mirogabalin was absorbed almost completely, and was eliminated via urine. Before and after the workshop, participants wrote words and phrases that occurred to them when they thought of dementia. Content analysis was used to identify themes. Before the workshop, participants' responses tended to include negative language (e.g., fear, memory loss, sadness). After the workshop, participants expressed more positive words (e.g., support, hopefulness, caring). These findings suggest that education can change congregants' perceptions about dementia and potentially reduce dementia-associated stigma. This change will allow families to feel comfortable both interacting with and seeking help from those in their faith communities.Cyclical fluctuations of the ovarian hormones estrogen (E2) and progesterone (PROG) have multiple effects on reproduction and development. However, little is known about the roles of E2 and PROG in women's social behaviors. Here, based on evolutionary theory suggesting social sensitivity and inhibition ability are conductive to maintaining social relationships, we provide evidence for the association between menstrual phases and social orientation. In Study 1, 78 women provided saliva samples and reported their intensity of behavioral activation/inhibition system (BAS/BIS) and interpersonal sensitivity at either of two phases of the menstrual cycle late follicular phase (FP), and mid-luteal phase (LP). A significant between-subject association emerged, revealing that women with higher PROG levels reported higher levels of social feedback sensitivity, and women with relatively high PROG levels showed a positive association between their E2 levels and inhibitory response. In Study 2, 30 women reported their interpersonal anxiety and finished the social value orientation (SVO) measures at both late FP and mid-LP. A significant within-person effect emerged women in the mid-LP, which is characterized by higher PROG levels, reported higher levels of interpersonal anxiety and SVO. In sum, these findings revealed that women's social orientation could fluctuate naturally with ovarian hormones across the menstrual cycle.
The review aimed to identify and explore the association of level of support received by people with severe mental illness in supported accommodation and participation.
The authors conducted a systematic search in MEDLINE, PsychINFO, PsychARTICLES, CINAHL Plus and ASSIA. Searches were restricted to articles published in English and participants aged 18 years and over with severe mental illness. Articles were included based on level of support received in mental health supported accommodation, classified according to the Simple Taxonomy for Supported Accommodation, and three factors of participation social participation, daily living functioning and personal empowerment. Studies of in-patient settings and nursing homes were excluded. The review protocol is registered on PROSPERO (registration number CRD42019161808).

We report a case of a 61-year-old male with delayed chylothorax while having an indwelling pleural catheter for malignant pleural effusion during treatment of follicular lymphoma. Percutaneous thoracic duct embolization was attempted but was unsuccessful. Chemotherapy, fluid management, and nutritional support allowed this to resolve over the course of ninety days from diagnosis. We describe the patient's clinical course and highlight nonoperative management of delayed chylothorax in the setting of follicular lymphoma treatment. Copyright © 2020 Chigozirim N. Ekeke et al.Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by skin sclerosis and multiple organ damages which may cause mortality and is usually accompanied with several specific autoantibodies, each of which is associated with characteristic complications. Among them, anticentriole antibody is recently reported to be highly associated with SSc-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (SSc-PAH). In general, several vasodilators are used as therapeutic drugs for SSc-PAH, whereas immunosuppressive therapies are not. Here, we report the case of a 62-year-old female with anticentriole antibody-positive SSc-PAH treated with immunosuppressants and vasodilators. She presented with two-year exertional dyspnea and was diagnosed with PAH and SSc owing to the centriole staining pattern and other symptoms without digital sclerosis. Oral vasodilators were initially administered but were not sufficiently effective on dyspnea. Immunosuppressants such as prednisolone and cyclophosphamide were started. Both of them improved mean pulmonary arterial pressure and 6-minute walk distance, and the anticentriole antibody also disappeared. In this case, SSc-PAH with anticentriole antibody was properly diagnosed and immunosuppressants and vasodilators improved the hemodynamics of PAH with anticentriole antibody and stably maintained it and, in addition, reduced the titer of anticentriole antibody. This indicates that anticentriole antibody might represent a good responsive group to therapies among subgroups of patients with SSc-PAH. Copyright © 2020 Yusho Ishii et al.Angiosarcoma is a high-grade vascular tumor arising from endothelial cells of blood vessels. It represents less than 1% of the mesenchymal tumors. Uterine angiosarcoma is an extremely rare tumor with less than 25 cases reported in the literature. It usually presents in postmenopausal women as uterine mass and rarely can arise in a leiomyoma. It is included in the group of tumors of aggressive behavior and poor prognosis. Herein, we present a case of primary uterine angiosarcoma in a 56-year-old female patient with a history of fibroids presenting with pelvic pain and weight loss. Abdominal CT scan showed a large uterine mass and enlarged pelvic lymph nodes. Total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed, and on histopathologic examination, it was found to be primary epithelioid angiosarcoma of the uterus. Immunohistochemical stains for CD31, keratin MAK-6, and keratin AE1/AE3 confirmed the diagnosis. In conclusion, uterine angiosarcoma should be suspected in any rapidly growing hemorrhagic uterine mass, and appropriate sampling and immunohistochemical stains should be considered. It arises from a benign pleomorphic adenoma presenting in the sixth to eighth decades of life. We present this as a unique account of a primary parotid gland carcinoma, arising from myoepithelial cells, without a known precursor lesion, in a 28-year-old woman. We report the case of surgical site infection complicated with meningitis and rapidly progressive spinal subdural abscess caused by P. aeruginosa following transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF). A 72-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital complaining of drop foot syndrome and sciatica caused by stenosis of the L5/6 intervertebral foramen accompanied by L5 lumbar vertebral fracture. Accordingly, TLIF of L5-L6 and balloon kyphoplasty of L5 were performed. We report a case of a 61-year-old male with delayed chylothorax while having an indwelling pleural catheter for malignant pleural effusion during treatment of follicular lymphoma. Percutaneous thoracic duct embolization was attempted but was unsuccessful. Chemotherapy, fluid management, and nutritional support allowed this to resolve over the course of ninety days from diagnosis. Ekeke et al.Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by skin sclerosis and multiple organ damages which may cause mortality and is usually accompanied with several specific autoantibodies, each of which is associated with characteristic complications. Among them, anticentriole antibody is recently reported to be highly associated with SSc-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (SSc-PAH). In general, several vasodilators are used as therapeutic drugs for SSc-PAH, whereas immunosuppressive therapies are not. Here, we report the case of a 62-year-old female with anticentriole antibody-positive SSc-PAH treated with immunosuppressants and vasodilators. She presented with two-year exertional dyspnea and was diagnosed with PAH and SSc owing to the centriole staining pattern and other symptoms without digital sclerosis. Oral vasodilators were initially administered but were not sufficiently effective on dyspnea. Immunosuppressants such as prednisolone and cyclophosphamide were started. Both of them improved mean pulmonary arterial pressure and 6-minute walk distance, and the anticentriole antibody also disappeared. In this case, SSc-PAH with anticentriole antibody was properly diagnosed and immunosuppressants and vasodilators improved the hemodynamics of PAH with anticentriole antibody and stably maintained it and, in addition, reduced the titer of anticentriole antibody. This indicates that anticentriole antibody might represent a good responsive group to therapies among subgroups of patients with SSc-PAH. Uterine angiosarcoma is an extremely rare tumor with less than 25 cases reported in the literature. It usually presents in postmenopausal women as uterine mass and rarely can arise in a leiomyoma. It is included in the group of tumors of aggressive behavior and poor prognosis. Herein, we present a case of primary uterine angiosarcoma in a 56-year-old female patient with a history of fibroids presenting with pelvic pain and weight loss. Abdominal CT scan showed a large uterine mass and enlarged pelvic lymph nodes. Total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed, and on histopathologic examination, it was found to be primary epithelioid angiosarcoma of the uterus. Immunohistochemical stains for CD31, keratin MAK-6, and keratin AE1/AE3 confirmed the diagnosis. In conclusion, uterine angiosarcoma should be suspected in any rapidly growing hemorrhagic uterine mass, and appropriate sampling and immunohistochemical stains should be considered. A 72-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital complaining of drop foot syndrome and sciatica caused by stenosis of the L5/6 intervertebral foramen accompanied by L5 lumbar vertebral fracture. Olfactory training (OT) represents a therapeutic option for multiple etiologies of olfactory dysfunction (OD) that also benefits normosmic subjects. In this retrospective study, we report the effectiveness of OT and factors associated with relevant changes in olfactory function (OF) in large groups of normosmic participants and patients with OD, including a control group that performed no training.
This was a retrospective pooled analysis including 2 treatment cohorts of 8 previously published studies. Adult participants that either presented with the major complaint of quantitative OD or normosmic volunteers were recruited at various ENT clinics and received OT or no training. The outcome was based on changes in objective olfactory test scores after OT.
A total of 601 patients with OD or normosmic subjects were included. OT was more effective compared to no training. No interaction was found between OT and OF. In multivariate analysis, higher baseline OF (adjusted odds ratio, aOR, 0.93) and posttraumatic (aOR, 0.29) or idiopathic OD (aOR, 0.18) compared to postinfectious causes were significantly associated with lower odds of relevant improvements in patients with OD receiving OT. Subgroup analysis of normosmic participants receiving OT further revealed a significant association of lower age and baseline olfactory function with improvements of overall OF.
This study demonstrated that OT was more effective than no training in patients with various causes of OD. Additionally, baseline olfactory performance and etiology of OD were identified as important factors associated with relevant improvements after OT.

The original 100 items version was applied to 99 participants from three nursing homes (36,4% professionals, 30,30% residents and 33,33% family members). From the item analysis, a questionnaire with 27 questions and 9 dimensions was obtained, which, subsequently, 225 people from other nursing homes in Spain filled in online. Content validity was analyzed by expert judgment, and construct validity by factor analysis. Reliability was assessed by analyzing the internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha.
The factorial analysis confirmed the existence of a single factor that explains 62.35% of the total variance of the questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha was 0.97. No relationship was found between sex and the final score of the questionnaire.

Calculating the free testosterone level has gained increasing interest and different indirect algorithms have been suggested. The objective was to compare free androgen index (FAI), free testosterone estimated using the linear binding model (Vermeulen cFTV) and the binding framework accounting for allosterically coupled SHBG monomers (Zakharov cFTZ) in relation to cardiometabolic conditions.
A prospective cohort study including 5350 men, aged 30-70 years, participating in population-based surveys (MONICA I-III and Inter99) from 1982 to 2001 and followed until December 2012 with baseline and follow-up information on cardiometabolic parameters and vital status.
Using age-standardized hormone levels, FAI was higher among men with baseline cardiometabolic conditions, whereas cFTV and cFTZ levels were lower compared to men without these conditions as also seen for total testosterone. Men in highest quartiles of cFTV or cFTZ had lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes (cFTV HR = 0.74 (0.49-1.10), cFTZ HR = 0.59 (0.39-0.91)) than men in lowest quartile. In contrast, men with highest levels of FAI had a 74% (1.17-2.59) increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to men in lowest quartile.

The major toxicities of these treatments are termed immune-related adverse events and endocrine dysfunction is common. Thyroid disease, hypopituitarism and a form of diabetes resembling type 1 diabetes are now all well described, with different patterns emerging with different checkpoint inhibitors. We review the presentation and management of the common endocrine immune-related adverse events, and discuss a number of recent advances in the understanding of these important, potentially life threatening toxicities. We also discuss some remaining dilemmas in management.

After further excluding 5 studies of high between-study heterogeneity in sensitivity analysis, the pooled OR of COPD was 0.77 (95% CI 0.68-0.86) for the obesity group. This meta-analysis indicated that BMI was associated with COPD. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the association between lifetime PA and risk of breast cancer. A case-control study was conducted between November 2016 and June 2017. PA was associated with a reduction in the odds of breast cancer. Future studies should aim at understanding the physiological pathways that could explain how an active lifestyle influences this disease, helping in the establishment of volume and intensities necessary to obtain the benefits.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an ongoing major health emergency, but its occurrence and clinical impact on patients withliver cirrhosis is unknown. Therefore, we conducted a population-based study of 2.6 million Danish citizens investigating the occurrence and impact of COVID-19 in patients with liver cirrhosis.
A prospective population-based cohort study was conducted in the Capital Region of Denmark and Region Zealand in the study period between 1 March 2020 up until 31 May 2020, with the only eligibility criteria being a reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction for presence of viral genomic material confirming COVID-19. The patients were subsequently stratified according to presence of pre-existing liver cirrhosis.
Among 575,935 individuals tested, 1713 patients had a diagnosis of cirrhosis. COVID-19 occurredsignificantly lessamongpatients with cirrhosis (
= 15; 0.9%,
.01) compared with the population without cirrhosis (
= 10,593; 1.8%). However, a large proportion (
= 6;40.0%) required a COVID-19 related hospitalization which was correlated with higher values of alanine aminotransferase (
.01) and lactate dehydrogenase (
= .04). In addition, one-in-three (
= 2; 13.3%) required intensive therapy. Four patients died (26.7%) and mortality was associated with higher MELD scores, co-existing type 2 diabetes, and bacterial superinfections.

Serological markers are used in the diagnosis of celiac disease. Among these, the most widely used are tissue transglutaminase antibodies (anti-TG2 antibodies). It has been suggested that the mechanisms that are set in motion by malnutrition cause the tight connections between enterocytes to expand, which allows gluten-derived peptides to pass through the epithelium. This causes the production of anti-TG2 antibodies without the presence of celiac disease.
The patients who were examined for malnutrition and had their anti-TG2 antibody levels measured at the same time, were accepted into the study. The patients who were investigated for suspected celiac disease, showed no signs of malnutrition, and had their anti-TG2 antibody levels measured were accepted into a control group.
The study population consisted of 126 children with mild malnutrition (54.8% female, 7.44 ± 5.38years); 89 children with moderate malnutrition (54.8% female, 7.62 ± 5.43years), and a control group of 200 children (53.2% female, 7.72 levels without celiac disease.

Hearing loss data from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease study. Additional non-hearing related health care costs, educational support, exclusion from the labour force in countries with full employment and societal costs posed by lost quality of life were determined. All costs were reported in 2019 purchasing power parity (PPP) adjusted international dollars.
Total global economic costs of hearing loss exceeded $981 billion. 47% of costs were related to quality of life losses, with 32% due to additional costs of poor health in people with hearing loss. 57% of costs were outside of high-income countries. 6.5% of costs were for children aged 0-14. In scenario analysis a 5% reduction in prevalence of hearing loss would reduce global costs by $49 billion.
This analysis highlights major economic consequences of not taking action to address hearing loss worldwide. Small reductions in prevalence and/or severity of hearing loss could avert substantial economic costs to society.

Despite its relevance to public health, about one-third of the world's adults do not meet current PA recommendations for health benefits. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the association between lifetime PA and risk of breast cancer. A case-control study was conducted between November 2016 and June 2017. Therefore, we conducted a population-based study of 2.6 million Danish citizens investigating the occurrence and impact of COVID-19 in patients with liver cirrhosis. A prospective population-based cohort study was conducted in the Capital Region of Denmark and Region Zealand in the study period between 1 March 2020 up until 31 May 2020, with the only eligibility criteria being a reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction for presence of viral genomic material confirming COVID-19. The patients were subsequently stratified according to presence of pre-existing liver cirrhosis. Among 575,935 individuals tested, 1713 patients had a diagnosis of cirrhosis. The thermodynamic analyses suggested that the puckered surface structure could weaken the interactions between BP and lipid molecules, thus inhibiting the lipid extraction. Additionally, through simulating the spontaneous interaction modes between BP and the lipid membrane, we found that the "passivated" edges of BP prohibited it from penetrating into the membrane. As a result, BP could only spontaneously lie parallel on the surface of the membrane, in which manner BP exerted little influence on the properties of the lipid membrane. Deferasirox is an oral chelator approved for iron overload, which has a potential side effect of renal Fanconi syndrome, with proximal tubular dysfunction and tubular acidosis. We present a review of the literature and six cases from our institution of deferasirox-associated partial Fanconi syndrome in adult patients with transfusional iron overload secondary to β-thalassemia or Diamond Blackfan Anaemia.
While prior cases in the literature occurred at high doses of deferasirox, our series included patients on doses as low as deferasirox 10mg/kg who had been aggressively chelated. All patients had resolution of laboratory abnormalities with drug interruption.
Rather than chelating to normal iron levels, this series supports prior suggestions that deferasirox dose be reduced if ferritin <500-1000ng/ml, and also supports dose reduction if liver iron content <3mg iron per g dry weight or for those undergoing aggressive chelation with rapid decrease in iron. Monitoring with metabolic panel and urinalysis were sufficient to detect clinically significant proximal tubular dysfunction, but should be followed up with additional studies to confirm the diagnosis while deferasirox dose is decreased or held.

We compared patient and graft outcome, achieved allograft function and quality of life of renal transplantations from Very Senior Donors (VSD, defined as donors aged 70 years and older) with Senior Donors (SD, aged 60-70 years) and Regular Donors (RD, aged younger than 60 years) in Switzerland. We evaluated the outcome of 1554 adult recipients of deceased donor kidney transplantations from 05/2008 to 12/2019; median follow-up was 4.7 years. Failure-free survival (freedom from graft loss or death), glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and quality of life at 12 months were analyzed for RD (reference group, n = 940), SD (n = 404), and VSD (n = 210). Failure-free survival decreased with increasing donor age, mainly attributable to premature graft loss. Still, overall 5-year failure-free survival reached 83.1%, 81.0%, and 64.0% in the RD, SD, and VSD subgroups, respectively. eGFR 12 months post-transplantation was significantly higher in RD compared with SD and VSD. The acceptance rate of donor candidates for kidney TPL was 78% for the entire cohort (87% for RD, 79% for SD, and 56% for VSD). Deceased donor kidney transplantation from donors aged 70 years or older is associated with an inferior, yet acceptable failure-free outcome, with sustained quality of life.
Reports on the association of the ABO phenotypes with infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus have mostly come from countries with high infection rates. This study examined the possible association between SARS-CoV-2 infection and the ABO phenotype in Black Africa.
This report is from a single centre where both asymptomatic and symptomatic patients were quarantined. At the time of this report, Oyo State, Nigeria had carried out 15733 tests of which 3119 were positive for the virus with 1952 recoveries and 37 deaths. The ABO distribution of patients was compared with that of a blood donor population.
Of the 302 participants, 297 (98%) had their blood group determined, asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals were 123 (40·7%) and 179 (59·3%) respectively. Blood group O was significantly less represented among the patients (P<0·01) while blood groups B and AB were significantly more represented (P<0·01, P=0·03 respectively). Patients with anti-B (groups A and O) were significantly less represented than those without anti-B (B and/or AB) B and AB (P<0·001), B (P=0·002), AB (P=0·01). There was no difference in the blood group distribution of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients (χ

Still, overall 5-year failure-free survival reached 83.1%, 81.0%, and 64.0% in the RD, SD, and VSD subgroups, respectively. eGFR 12 months post-transplantation was significantly higher in RD compared with SD and VSD. This study examined the possible association between SARS-CoV-2 infection and the ABO phenotype in Black Africa. This report is from a single centre where both asymptomatic and symptomatic patients were quarantined. At the time of this report, Oyo State, Nigeria had carried out 15733 tests of which 3119 were positive for the virus with 1952 recoveries and 37 deaths. The ABO distribution of patients was compared with that of a blood donor population. Of the 302 participants, 297 (98%) had their blood group determined, asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals were 123 (40·7%) and 179 (59·3%) respectively. Blood group O was significantly less represented among the patients (P<0·01) while blood groups B and AB were significantly more represented (P<0·01, P=0·03 respectively). Patients with anti-B (groups A and O) were significantly less represented than those without anti-B (B and/or AB) B and AB (P<0·001), B (P=0·002), AB (P=0·01). There was no difference in the blood group distribution of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients (χ (3, N=302)=2·29; P=0·51), but symptomatic patients with anti-A (groups B and O) were more represented than asymptomatic patients with anti-A (χ 4·89; P=0·03). This study aimed to examine the performance of SWI parameters and SWI-based texture features in evaluating renal dysfunction of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Forty-five patients with T2DM were included. With the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), the patients were divided into non-moderate-severe renal injured group (non-msRI, eGFR >60 mL/min/1.73 m
) and moderate-severe renal injured group (msRI, eGFR ≤60 mL/min/1.73 m

To explore the mechanisms of raw rhubarb and wine-processed rhubarb treatment in a rat model of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).
After adapting to their environment, 30 male Wistar rats were divided into 5 treatment groups blank control group (CK) (normal saline), sham operation group (SICH) (normal saline), ICH model group (ICH) (normal saline), ICH + raw rhubarb enema group (RO) (raw rhubarb 3.60 g/kg), and ICH + wine-processed rhubarb enema group (WRO) (wine-processed rhubarb 3.60 g/kg). The rhubarb enema (once a day) was given since 3 days before ICH treatment, and was consistently given until 12 hours, 24 hours, 3 days, and 7 days post operation. Serum oxidative stress and inflammatory markers were detected by ELISA, and differences between raw rhubarb and wine-processed rhubarb treatment in ICH rats were screened by proteomics and metabolomics.
Both rhubarb treatments effectively improved oxidative stress and inflammatory responses. After ICH, the proteins and metabolites in the brain tissue were significantly altered.

The present study aimed to translate and determine the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Compassionate Care Assessment Tool (CCAT) ©.
The study was carried out to translate and validate of the CCAT©. After securing permission from the designer of the tool and translating it, the psychometric properties were determined through examining face validity, construct validity, internal consistency, and test/retest reliability. With regard to construct validity, confirmatory factor analysis was used so that 300 patients in internal and surgery wards were selected by a simple random sampling method from three hospitals. Data were analyzed using SPSS (v.24.0) and LISREL statistical software version 8.8.
The results of the confirmatory factor analysis supported the validity and reliability of the Persian version of the CCAT© and its four factors. The reliability of the tool and internal consistency were confirmed through test/retest method with two weeks' interval. At the two areas of importance and provision of compassionate care, Cronbach's α coefficient equaled to 0.918 and 0.933 and intraclass consistency equaled to 0.848 and 0.907 respectively.
The results showed that the Persian version of the CCAT© was adequately valid and reliable for Iranian patients. Given the acceptable psychometric parameters of the tool, using it in future studies to measure importance and provision of compassionate nursing care to Iranian patients at internal and surgery wards is recommended.

The aim of this study was to explore factors that motivate students to engage in skills practice in a laboratory setting, and to identify their motivation types and the regulatory styles.
Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 23 nursing students from three universities between November 2017 and January 2018. A thematic analysis was used to identify factors associated with students' motivation to engage in skills practice in a laboratory. The types and the regulatory styles of student motivation were identified based on the self-determination theory.
Seven motivating factors were identified. These factors included the students' desire "to acquire the skills necessary to work as a nurse", the "desire to improve skills in preparation for clinical practicum", and their felt "obligations to patients as a nurse". Moreover, "the impetus to study arising from the objective evaluation of oneself and others" and "wanting to pass the skills examination" motivated the students to engage in skills practice. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/urmc-099.html A "learning environment that facilitates students' learning" and the "supportive involvement of educators" facilitated their learning. Our analyses revealed one main theme aspiring for competence in a multifaceted everyday life and four main categories acquiring professional competence, struggling to manage diverse forms of communication, demanding task juggling and confused student role.
The participants experienced that the programme enabled them to acquire professional competence relevant to practice. Despite the challenges, the programme is recommended for prospective students who live in both urban and rural areas, who are working and also responsible for children and other family tasks.

A self-designed questionnaire regarding workplace violence and reporting was used to conduct a cross-sectional survey on nurses who submitted a manuscript to a Chinese nursing journal from 2016 to 2017. A total of 324 nurses agreed to participate in this study and 266 participants from 165 hospitals in 72 cities returned questionnaires.
A total of 172 nurses (64.7%) experienced violent incidents during the past year. Of these incidents, 45.5% were reported; and the reporting rate of physical assaults (69.0%) was higher than those of verbal abuse (36.9%), threatening behavior (51.7%), and sexual harassment (60.0%). Formal reporting accounted for 25.4% (15.4% in written form and 10.0% through a computer-assisted reporting system). Almost half of the nurses (49.6%) stated that the hospital had no reporting system or they were uncertain about the reporting system. For reasons of not reporting, 51.

In this case-control study, we recruited 513 confirmed patients with COVID-19 from February 18 to March 26, 2020 from Isfahan COVID-19 registry. Based on extracted laboratory, clinical, and demographic data, we created an in-hospital mortality predictive model using gradient boosting. We also determined the diagnostic performance of the proposed model including sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC) as well as their 95% CIs. Of 513 patients, there were 60 (11.7%) in-hospital deaths during the study period. The diagnostic values of the suggested model based on the gradient boosting method with oversampling techniques using all of the original data were specificity of 98.5% (95% CI 96.8-99.4), sensitivity of 100% (95% CI 94-100), negative predictive value of 100% (95% CI 99.2-100), positive predictive value of 89.6% (95% CI 79.7-95.7), and an AUC of 98.6%. The suggested model may be useful in making decision to patient's hospitalization where the probability of mortality may be more obvious based on the final variable. However, moderate gaps in our knowledge of the predictors of in-hospital mortality suggest further studies aiming at predicting models for in-hospital mortality in patients with COVID-19.Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), caused by hantavirus, is occasionally seen in tropical areas. Most fatal cases had complications including multiple-organ failure, central nervous syndrome (CNS) abnormalities, and disseminated intravascular coagulation. Operating room nursing professionals are exposed to different workload. It is necessary to recognize which situations resulting from their tasks interfere with the health of the professional.
We aimed to identify the physical and physiological loads on operating room nurses and their impact on the health as well as trace ergonomic recommendations based on the literature and performed analysis.
The is an exploratory, observational, descriptive research conducted in the surgical center of a university hospital between August 2017 and July 2018. Nursing staff of both genders who worked as transport professionals or room circulators were included in the study. Data collection in the OR went through stages of Ergonomic Workplace Analysis (EWA), through semi-structured interviews addressing the physical and physiological work issues and a worksheet of data collected from the observations of the practitioners' actions.
The study included 20 nursing workers of both genders with an average of 17.33±12.58 years of work experience. The most reported problematic factors were lack of material, staff pressure, patient transporting, employment legal status with the institution, and lack of communication among the practitioners.
There was a physical effort during the activity and a high prevalence of workers with pain complaints, which justifies the investigation.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exposure to chronic noise on vestibular functions and balance in Edirne Band musicians.
Twenty-two individuals working in the Edirne Band for at least 5 years and a control group of 22 individuals working at Trakya University with similar sociodemographic characteristics were included. The socio-demographic questionnaire was used to inquire about the demographic characteristics of individuals, the ABC Scale to assess how they felt about the balance, and the DHI to determine the quality of life related to dizziness. A 3D ultrasonic system was used to assess the static and dynamic balance of the individuals.
There was a statistically significant difference between the band and the control group in terms of longitudinal deviation and self-spin parameters of the Unterberger test, dizziness handicap inventory scores, functional balance according to activity-specific balance confidence scale (p < 0.05).
As a result of our study, it has been shown that the balance, quality of life and vestibular system functions are negatively affected in the band exposed to noise for a long time.

Five individuals, diagnosed with Schizophrenia, and two key informants participated in this study that was positioned in a qualitative paradigm, with an exploratory and descriptive design. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data.
Theme one reflects on the challenges experienced by forensic mental healthcare users, when returning to work. Theme two describes various OT programs, as well as how they facilitate the reintegration of forensic mental healthcare users into the worker role. Theme three describes the positive support for forensic mental healthcare users, in the mental healthcare setting, workplace, and the greater community. Theme four describes how participation in occupation installs hope in forensic mental healthcare users, reinforcing the value of work, while positively influencing their work identity.
The results revealed that stigma, residual symptoms, relapse due to substance abuse/mental health, and the lack of family support, were not be conducive to work skills development. However, the support of family and friends, workplace occupational therapy support, assembly line work, and therapeutic groups in an OT program, ensured positive workplace reintegration.

Participatory simulation (PS) is a method that can be used to integrate ergonomics and safety into workplace design projects. Previous studies have mainly focused on tools and methods for the simulation activities. The subsequent process of transferring and integrating the simulation outcomes into the design of workplaces is poorly understood.
This study sets out to study the role of actors and objects in the transfer of ergonomics knowledge generated in PS events and in the integration of this knowledge into a design project. The study identifies factors that influence what part of the simulation outcomes are integrated.
The empirical context of the study was six PS events that were part of a hospital design project. The events were investigated based on knowledge transfer theory, observations, interviews and document studies.
