  • OBJECTIVE Emotional intelligence (EI) is the recognition and management of emotions within oneself and others. Limited evidence exists that determine whether EI is related to stress and burnout. PURPOSE The purpose of this project was to determine whether relationships exist between EI, stress, and burnout levels among undergraduate dental hygiene students. METHODS This study used a quantitative cross-sectional research design. The study instrument consisted of 3 parts (1) The Emotional Quotient Self-Assessment Checklist consisted of 30-questions in 6 domains and measured EI; (2) The Modified Dental Environment Stress Questionnaire consisted of 39 questions in 5 domains and measured stress; and (3) The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Health Services Survey consisted of 22 questions in 3 domains and measured burnout. RESULTS The responses from 57 participants were used (response rate = 93.3%). A moderate negative correlation was found between self-control and personal stress and a moderate negative correlation was found between empathy and emotional evaluation. Moderate positive correlations were found between self-awareness, empathy, motivation, self-competence, self-confidence, and total EI scores and personal accomplishment. Multiple linear regression analysis found self-control was a significant predictor of personal stress (R2  = .023, P = .023); empathy and self-competence were significant predictors of clinical stress (R2  = .085, P = .034); empathy and self-awareness were significant predictors of emotional exhaustion (R2  = .071, P = 0.006); and empathy was a predictor of personal accomplishment (R2  = .150, P = 0.002). CONCLUSION Subcomponents of EI were found to be significant predictors of stress and burnout levels. Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1)-positive tumors were required for eligibility in KEYNOTE-028 only. Patients received pembrolizumab 200 mg every three weeks (KEYNOTE-158) or 10 mg/kg every two weeks (KEYNOTE-028) for ≤2 years. Primary efficacy endpoint was objective response rate (ORR) by RECIST v1.1. Response assessed by independent central review is reported. KEYNOTE-158 enrolled 104 patients and KEYNOTE-028 enrolled 24 patients. Median (range) follow-up was 7.5 months (0.6-34.3) in KEYNOTE-158 and 5.7 months (0.6-55.4) in KEYNOTE-028. In KEYNOTE-158, ORR was 5.8% (6/104; 95% CI, 2.1%-12.1%); median duration of response (DOR) was not reached (NR) (range, 6.2-26.6+ months). Median (95% CI) OS and PFS were 7.4 (5.5-9.6) and 2.0 (1.9-2.1) months. Among PD-L1-expressers (n = 61) and PD-L1-nonexpressers (n = 34), respectively, ORR was 6.6% (4/61) and 2.9% (1/34). In KEYNOTE-028, ORR was 13.0% (3/23; 95% CI, 2.8%-33.6%); median DOR was NR (range, 21.5-53.2+ months). Median (95% CI) OS and PFS were 5.7 (3.1-9.8) and 1.8 (1.4-3.1) months. Grade 3 to 5 treatment-related adverse events occurred in 13.5% of patients in KEYNOTE-158 (no grade 4; grade 5 renal failure, n = 1) and 16.7% in KEYNOTE-028 (no grade 4/5). Here, we report a simple and very effective interaction tailoring strategy for all-inorganic CsPbI3-xBrx perovskites by involving ionic liquid solvent methylammonium acetate (MAAc). We found that C=O has strong interaction with lead (Pb2+) and the N-H…I hydrogen bonds formation are observed. The interaction enables the stable perovskite precursor solution and allows the high-quality production of pinhole-free, large grain size, and flat all-inorganic perovskite films by retarding the crystallization. With a one-step, without the necessity for antisolvent treatment, air-processing approach regardless of humidity, the corresponding photovoltaic cell exhibits a high efficiency of 17.

One of the issues facing lithium metal is the presence of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer that forms on the electrode creating a variety of chemical species that change the properties of the electrode and is closely related to the formation and growth of lithium dendrites. In order to advance the scientific progress of lithium metal more must be understood about the fundamentals of the SEI. One property of the SEI that is particularly critical is the passivating behavior of the different SEI components. This property is critical to the continued formation of SEI and stability of the electrolyte and electrode. Here we report the investigation of the passivation behavior of Li 2 O, Li 2 CO 3, LiF and LiOH with the lithium salt LiFSI. We used large computational chemistry models that are able to capture the lithium/SEI interface as well as the SEI/electrolyte interface. We determined that LiF and Li 2 CO 3 are the most passivating of the SEI layers, followed by LiOH and Li 2 O. These results match previous studies of other Li salts and provide further examination of LiFSI reduction. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Specifically, rising carbon dioxide (CO2 ) levels over the past century are expected to have increased the intrinsic water-use efficiency (iWUE) of tropical trees while the ecosystem is gradually pushed into progressive nutrient limitation. Due to the long-term character of these changes, however, observational datasets to validate both paradigms are limited in space and time. In this study, we used a unique herbarium record to go **** nearly a century and show that despite the rise in CO2 concentrations, iWUE has decreased in central African tropical trees in the Congo basin. Although we find evidence that points to leaf-level adaptation to increasing CO2 - i.e. increasing photosynthesis-related nutrients and decreasing maximum stomatal conductance, a decrease in leaf δ13 C clearly indicates a decreasing iWUE over time. Additionally, the stoichiometric carbon to nitrogen and nitrogen to phosphorus ratios in the leaves show no sign of progressive nutrient limitation as they have remained constant since 1938, which suggests that nutrients have not increasingly limited productivity in this biome. Altogether, the data suggest that other environmental factors, such as increasing temperature, might have negatively affected net photosynthesis and consequently downregulated the iWUE. Results from this study reveal that the second largest tropical forest on Earth has responded differently to recent environmental changes than expected, highlighting the need for further on-ground monitoring in the Congo Basin. We examined the prevalence,clinical and virological features of concurrent HBsAg and anti-HBs inchildren and adults with chronic HBV infection living in North America. A total of 1,462 HBsAg positive participants in the Hepatitis B Research Network pediatric and adult cohorts were included[median age 41 (range 4-80) years, 48% female, 11% white, 13% black, 73% Asians]. Only 18 (1.2%) were found to be anti-HBs positive (≥10 mIU/mL) at initial study evaluation.Distributions of sex, race, HBV genotype, and ALTwere similar between participants with and without concurrent anti-HBs. Those who were anti-HBs positive appeared to be older (median age 50 vs. 41 years,p=0.06), hadlower platelet counts (median 197 vs. 222 x 103/mm3 , p=0.07)and higher prevalence of HBeAg (44% vs. 26%, p=0.10). They also had lower HBsAg levels (median 2.0 vs. 3.5 log10 IU/mL, p=0.02).Testing of follow-up samples after a median of 4 years (range 1-6)in 12 of the 18 participants with initial concurrent anti-HBsshowed anti-HBs became undetectable in 6, decreased to less then 10 mIU/mL in 1and remained positive in 5 participants.Two patients lost HBsAg during follow-up. In conclusion, prevalenceof concurrent HBsAg and anti-HBs was low at 1.2%,with anti-HBs disappearing in some during follow-up, in this large cohort of racially diverse children and adults with chronic HBV infection living in North America.   • Background and objectives Stroke volume (SV) and cardiac output (CO) are important metrics for hemodynamic management of critically ill patients. Clinically available devices to continuously monitor these metrics are invasive, and less invasive methods perform poorly during hemodynamic instability. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) could potentially improve estimation of SV and CO by providing information on changing vascular tone. This study investigates whether using PWV for parameter identification of a model-based pulse contour analysis method improves SV estimation accuracy. Methods Three implementations of a 3-element windkessel pulse contour analysis model are compared constant-Z, water hammer, and Bramwell-Hill methods. Each implementation identifies the characteristic impedance parameter (Z) differently. The first method identifies Z statically and does not use PWV, and the latter two methods use PWV to dynamically update Z. Accuracy of SV estimation is tested in an animal trial, where interventions induce severe hemodynamic changes in 5 pigs. Model-predicted SV is compared to SV measured using an aortic flow probe. Results SV percentage error had median bias and [(IQR); (2.5th, 97.5th percentiles)] of -0.5% [(-6.1%, 4.7%); (-50.3%, +24.1%)] for the constant-Z method, 0.6% [(-4.9%, 6.2%); (-43.4%, +29.3%)] for the water hammer method, and 0.8% [(-6.5, 8.6); (-37.1%, +47.6%)] for the Bramwell-Hill method. Anchoring followed by conformational changes of E-protein are responsible for the fusion and entry of DENV into host. The variation in the conformation of the E-protein due to mutations, results in its altered binding with antibodies (Abs) and also its receptors. This leads to failure of neutralization of DENV and enhance the infection. In our earlier studies we have identified T219A mutation in the E-protein of DENV and the present study is focused on the impact of this mutation on the conformation of E-protein and also its binding variation with Abs and Fc-γ receptor. A comparative molecular modelling studies of wild type and T219A mutant E-proteins revealed that, the mutation induced several conformational variations in the E-protein and resulted in the variable binding orientation with altered affinities. Further, the mutation was also observed to enhance the fusion mechanism by Fc-γ receptors that mediate the efficient entry of DENV into host cell through altered membrane fusion mechanism. Second, the applicability to generate a design space was tested and verified. Obtained results revealed a good agreement of the values generated from this new and fast HFS compared to the gravimetric determination. Additionally, residual moisture assessed by Karl-Fischer titration and frequency modulated spectroscopy (FMS) support the quality of the obtained predictions. Methods The Hospital for Tropical Diseases (HTD) based in central London, provides tertiary care for the management of CD. We reviewed all cases managed at this centre between 1995 and 2018. Results Sixty patients with serologically proven CD were identified. Most were female (70%), with a median age at diagnosis of 41 years. Three quarters of the patients were originally from Bolivia. 62% of all patients were referred to the HTD by their GP. Nearly half of the patients were asymptomatic (47%). Twelve patients had signs of cardiac involvement secondary to CD. Evidence of gastrointestinal damage was established in three patients. Treatment was provided at HTD for 31 patients (47%). Most patients (29) received benznidazole, five of them did not tolerate the course and were switched to nifurtimox. Of the seven patients receiving this second line drug, five completed treatment, whilst two interrupted it due to side effects. Conclusions Despite the UK health system having all the resources required to diagnose, treat and follow up cases, there is lack of awareness of CD, such that the vast majority of cases remain undiagnosed and therefore do not receive treatment.     Background and objectives Stroke volume (SV) and cardiac output (CO) are important metrics for hemodynamic management of critically ill patients. Clinically available devices to continuously monitor these metrics are invasive, and less invasive methods perform poorly during hemodynamic instability. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) could potentially improve estimation of SV and CO by providing information on changing vascular tone. This study investigates whether using PWV for parameter identification of a model-based pulse contour analysis method improves SV estimation accuracy. Methods Three implementations of a 3-element windkessel pulse contour analysis model are compared constant-Z, water hammer, and Bramwell-Hill methods. Each implementation identifies the characteristic impedance parameter (Z) differently. The first method identifies Z statically and does not use PWV, and the latter two methods use PWV to dynamically update Z. Accuracy of SV estimation is tested in an animal trial, where interventions induce severe hemodynamic changes in 5 pigs. Model-predicted SV is compared to SV measured using an aortic flow probe.   • Cardiac fibrosis is a typical pathological change in various cardiovascular diseases. Although it has been recognized as a crucial risk factor responsible for heart failure, there is still a lack of effective treatment. Recent evidence shows that microRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in the development of cardiac fibrosis and represent novel therapeutic targets. In this study we tried to identify the cardiac fibrosis-associated miRNA and elucidate its regulatory mechanisms in ****. Cardiac fibrosis was induced by infusion of angiotensin II (Ang II, 2 mg·kg-1·d-1) for 2 weeks via osmotic pumps. We showed that Ang II infusion induced cardiac disfunction and fibrosis accompanied by markedly increased expression level of miR-99b-3p in heart tissues. Upregulation of miR-99b-3p and fibrotic responses were also observed in cultured rat cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) treated with Ang II (100 nM) in vitro. Transfection with miR-99b-3p mimic resulted in the overproduction of fibronectin, collagen I, vimentin and α-SMA, and facilitated the proliferation and migration of CFs. On the contrary, transfection with specific miR-99b-3p inhibitor attenuated Ang II-induced fibrotic responses. Similarly, intravenous injection of specific miR-99b-3p antagomir could prevent Ang II-infused **** from cardiac dysfunction and fibrosis. We identified glycogen synthase kinase-3 beta (GSK-3β) as a direct target of miR-99b-3p. In CFs, miR-99b-3p mimic significantly reduced the expression of GSK-3β, leading to activation of its downstream profibrotic effector Smad3, whereas miR-99b-3p inhibitor caused anti-fibrotic effects. GSK-3β knockdown ameliorated the anti-fibrotic role of miR-99b-3p inhibitor. These results suggest that miR-99b-3p contributes to Ang II-induced cardiac fibrosis at least partially through GSK-3β. To explore the drug-mediated inhibition of GlyRs, we screened a chemical library of ~ 1,000 approved drugs and pharmacologically active molecules by observing touch-evoked response of zebrafish embryos in the presence of drugs. We found that exposure of zebrafish embryos to nifedipine (an inhibitor of voltage-gated calcium channel) or niflumic acid (an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase 2) caused bilateral muscle contractions just like strychnine-treated embryos showed. We then assayed strychnine, picrotoxin, nifedipine, and niflumic acid for concentration-dependent inhibition of glycine-mediated currents of GlyRs in oocytes and calculated IC50s. Sedentary time was related to lower susceptibility to a framing bias. However, once global and local efficiency of the DAN were considered we observed (1) higher susceptibility to framing with more sedentary time, mediated through lower local and global efficiency in the DAN, and (2) lower susceptibility to framing with more sedentary time. MVPA was not related to DMC or graph theory measures. These results suggest that remaining sedentary may reduce neurofunctional readiness for top-down control and decrease engagement of deliberate thought, required to ignore irrelevant aspects of a problem. The positive effect suggests that the relationship between sedentary time and DMC may be moderated by unmeasured factors such as the type of sedentary behavior.We report that the naphthalimide analogue 2-(2-aminophenyl)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione (NAP-6) is a highly potent and selective breast cancer targeting molecule. These effects are mediated via the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) pathway and the subsequent induction of CYP1 metabolising monooxygenases in breast cancer cell line models. Indeed the triple negative breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-468 with a GI50 value of 100 nM is greater than 500-fold more sensitive to NAP-6 compared with other tumour derived cell models. Within 1 h exposure of these cells to NAP-6, CYP1A1 expression increases 25-fold, rising to 250-fold by 24 h. A smaller concurrent increase in CYP1A2 and CYP1B1 is also observed. Within 24 h these cells present with DNA damage as evident by enhanced H2AXγ expression, cell cycle checkpoint activation via increased CHK2 expression, S-phase cell cycle arrest and cell death. Specific small molecule inhibitors of the AHR and CYP1 family ameliorate these events. A positive luciferase reporter assay for NAP-6 induced XRE binding further confirms the role of the AHR in this phenomenon. Non-sensitive cell lines fail to show these biological effects. Our structural and biochemical studies reveal that the roof of the active site in PMP-bound CrmG is flexible, which will facilitate the PMP or by-product to dissociate from PMP-bound CrmG. Our results also show that amino acceptor caerulomycin M (CRM M), but not α-ketoglutarate or pyruvate, can form strong interactions with the roof of the active site in PMP-bound CrmG. Based on our results, we propose that the flexible roof of the active site in PMP-bound CrmG may facilitate CrmG to overcome inhibition from the by-product.

We first validated blood flow simulations against in vitro measurements in 3D-printed phantoms representing the patient's vasculature. We then investigated the effects of varying the degree of stenosis, blood flow rate, and viscosity on two diagnostic metrics - pressure gradient across the stenosis (ΔP) and wall shear stress (WSS) - by performing the largest simulation study to date of coarctation of the aorta (over 70 million compute hours). Using machine learning models trained on data from the simulations and validated on two independent datasets, we developed a framework to identify the minimal training set required to build a predictive model on a per-patient basis. In this Review, we summarize the development and testing of approved histology-agnostic therapeutic agents and present data on other agents currently under development. We retrospectively collected data of 174 patients who underwent BTS after stent placement for stage II or III obstructive colon cancer from five hospitals. We divided the patients into three groups based on the time interval for BTS after stent placement within 7 days (Group 1), from 8 to 14 days (Group 2), and after 14 days (Group 3). The primary outcome was to compare the oncologic outcomes including overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and recurrence rate (RR) among the three groups. Groups 1, 2, and 3 involved 75, 56, and 43 patients, respectively. Postoperative morbidity rates were 17.3%, 10.8%, and 9.3% in Groups 1, 2, and 3, respectively (P = 0.337). RRs were 16.0%, 35.7%, and 30.2% in Groups 1, 2, and 3, respectively (P = 0.029). In multivariate analysis, the time interval for BTS was an independent risk factor for DFS (P less then 0.001; HR, 14.463; 95% CI, 1.458-3.255) and OS (P = 0.027; HR, 4.917; 95% CI, 1.071-3.059). In conclusion, the perioperative short-term outcome was not affected by the time interval of BTS. However, elective surgery within 7 days after colonic stent might be suggested to balance the short-term benefits and long-term oncologic risks.

  • From the viewpoint of practice, this research sheds light on some of the challenges that the implementer might face when making strategy and policy for e-waste management in Bangladesh.The occurrence of monochorionic diamniotic twins with sex discordance is a very rare phenomenon. We present a case of spontaneously conceived gender-discordant monochorionic diamniotic twins born to a 23-year-old female, both twins demonstrating similar blood karyotype 45,X/46,X, idic(Y) and a novel 99 kb mutation at 3p24.3 involving exons 15-16 of transcript NM_001134381.1 of the Tre-2/Bub2/Cdc16 Domain Family Member 5 (TBC1D5) gene. The male twin showed no anatomic abnormalities and pelvic ultrasound revealed descended gonads. The female twin had a horseshoe-shaped kidney, normal uterus, and intra-abdominal gonads. The blood karyotype and microarray studies revealed similar distribution of X and isodicentric Y chromosome along with a novel genetic mutation which has not been previously reported. Our case findings not only report Turner syndrome mosaicism with a novel genetic mutation but also stress the importance of clinical follow-up of twins in order to evaluate the functional abnormalities associated with isodicentric Y chromosomes including germ cell tumors.INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to establish a reliable panel of antibodies for immunohistochemical corroboration of a diagnosis of clear cell sarcoma of kidney (CCSK), taking into consideration the various genotypic subsets of CCSK. METHODS We conducted full genotypic analysis for evidence of YWHAE-NUTM2, BCOR internal tandem duplication (ITD), and BCOR-CCNB3 in 68 archival cases of CCSK and then immunostained all cases for CCND1, TLE1, and BCOR along with 63 control samples representing tumor types that may enter into the differential diagnosis of CCSK, including 7 congenital mesoblastic nephromas, 2 desmoplastic small round cell tumors, 13 malignant rhabdoid tumors, 9 Ewing sarcomas/primitive neuroectodermal tumor, 5 synovial sarcomas, and 27 Wilms' tumors. RESULTS Molecular assays showed that 54 CCSKs harbored a BCOR-ITD, 1 case expressed a YWHAE-NUTM2 fusion transcript while none expressed the BCOR-CCNB3 fusion. The remaining 13 CCSKs were designated "triple-negative" based on the molecular fipelling markers in aiding CCSK diagnosis.Glycoproteins play key roles in various molecular and cellular functions and are among the most difficult to analyze biomolecules on account of their microheterogeneity, non-template-driven synthesis, and low abundances. The stability, serum half-life, immunogenicity, and biological activity of therapeutic glycoproteins, including antibodies, vaccines, and biomarkers, are regulated by their glycosylation profile. Thus, there is increasing demand for the qualitative and quantitative characterization and validation of glycosylation on glycoproteins. One of the most important derivatization processes for the structural characterization of released glycans by mass spectrometry (MS) is permethylation. We have recently developed a permethylation strategy in microscale that allows facile permethylation of glycans and permits the processing of large sample sets in nanogram amounts through high-throughput sample handling. Recent research emphasizes how depression impedes development during emerging adulthood. However, our study-based on 40 interviews with emerging adults from multiple regions in the United States, analyzed following grounded theory-suggests a more complex narrative. Increasing experience with cycles of depression can also catalyze (a) mature perspectives and coping mechanisms that protect against depression's lowest lows; (b) deeper self-knowledge and direction, which in turn promoted a coherent personal identity; and (c) emergence of a life purpose, which fostered attainment of adult roles, skill development, greater life satisfaction, and enriched identity. Our synthesis reveals how depression during emerging adulthood can function at once as toxin, potential antidote, and nutritional supplement fostering healthy development. Our central finding that young adults adapt to rather than recover from depression can also enrich resilience theory, and inform both social discourse and clinical practice.Sufferers from burnout might experience a sincere bonding to their lost lifeworld, which can result in their holding on to their previous worlds while simultaneously trying to unleash themselves. In this article, four experiential dimensions are presented in discussion with the phenomenological insights provided by Merleau-Ponty. These dimensions are "Trapped in the present body," "the balancing act," "precious moments of joy," and "this is my Lifeworld now." In the rehabilitation process, the participants demonstrated deliberate choices and reflective self-cultivation to adjust to their present situation. The illness seemed to promote a search for meaning-and out of the existential chaos, a "new" habitual body might appear. The study provides invaluable information about the rehabilitation process and the need for humanistic interventions.

  • Results Aβ25-35 inhibited the viability of HT22 cells and the expression of GR and BDNF in HT22 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. Control group medium with no HaCaT cells), and then radiated with X-rays (radiation dose 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 Gy). Cell viability, cell apoptosis, and radiation-induced intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation were analysed by CCK-8, Hoechst 33258 staining/flow cytometry, and 2',7'-dichlorfluorescein diacetate (DCFH-DA) assay, respectively, for 12 or 24 h incubation after radiation.Results The optimal radiation dose and post-radiation incubation period were determined to be 8 Gy and 12 h. METHODS Plasma MPO levels were assessed in patients presenting with acute brain ischemia within 36 hours of symptom onset (n=144, mean age 64.7± 11.6 years, 67% men), and in patients with moderate-severe carotid stenosis undergoing carotid artery stenting (n=51, mean age 66.3±8.4 years, 75% men). Patients presenting with acute brain ischemia were assessed serially for stroke severity and disability. RESULTS Plasma MPO concentrations (ng/ml) were associated with interleukin-6 (r=0.38, p10) bottom, middle and top tertiles 6.3%, vs. 41.7% and 31.3%, respectively; p less then 0.006) as well as with stroke severity at day 1-2, day 4-5, and at discharge (p less then 0.05 for all), but less with disability at discharge [mRS≥2 of 41.7% vs. 60.4% and 58.7% for bottom, middle and top tertiles, respectively; p=0.096). CONCLUSIONS Among patients with acute brain ischemia, plasma MPO concentrations were associated with stroke severity and non-lacunar subtype, but not with long term functional disability. Genome-wide association studies for cognitive outcomes were based on 2,500 individuals from ALSPAC. MEASUREMENTS Binge drusing the inverse variance weight (b=0.29, 95%CI=-0.42 to 0.99), response inhibition (b=-0.32, 95%CI=-1.04 to 0.39), and emotion recognition (b=0.03, 95%CI=-0.55 to 0.61). RESULTS We proposed here a novel method "2SigFinder ", the first combined use of small-scale and large-scale statistical testing for genomic island detection. The proposed method was tested by genomic island boundary detection and identification of genomic islands or functional features of real biological data. We also compared the proposed method with the comparative genomics and composition-based approaches. The results indicate that the proposed 2SigFinder is more efficient in identifying genomic islands. We use this map to elucidate the dynamics of recombination rates in distinct populations of the same species, one of which is domesticated. They have been the subject of much research on sex determination due to problems caused by early maturation in culture and their complex sex-determining systems. The 'genetically improved farmed tilapia' (GIFT) stock, founded from multiple Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) populations, with some likely to have been introgressed with O. mossambicus, is a key resource for tilapia aquaculture. The sex-determining mechanism in the GIFT stock was unknown, but potentially complicated due to its multiple origins. RESULTS A bulk segregant analysis (BSA) version of double-digest restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (BSA-ddRADseq) was developed and used to detect and position sex-linked single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers in 19 families from the GIFT strain breeding nucleus and two Stirle useful for potential marker-assisted selection (MAS) to control sex-ratio in GIFT tilapia to suppress unwanted reproduction during growout.BACKGROUND Genomic islands are associated with microbial adaptations, carrying genomic signatures different from the host. Some methods perform an overall test to identify genomic islands based on their local features. However, regions of different scales will display different genomic features. RESULTS We proposed here a novel method "2SigFinder ", the first combined use of small-scale and large-scale statistical testing for genomic island detection. The proposed method was tested by genomic island boundary detection and identification of genomic islands or functional features of real biological data. We also compared the proposed method with the comparative genomics and composition-based approaches. The results indicate that the proposed 2SigFinder is more efficient in identifying genomic islands. CONCLUSIONS From real biological data, 2SigFinder identified genomic islands from a single genome and reported robust results across different experiments, without annotated information of genomes or prior knowledge from other datasets. 2SigHunter identified 25 Pathogenicity, 1 tRNA, 2 Virulence and 2 Repeats from 27 Pathogenicity, 1 tRNA, 2 Virulence and 2 Repeats, and detected 101 Phage and 28 HEG out of 130 Phage and 36 HEGs in S. enterica Typhi CT18, which shows that it is more efficient in detecting functional features associated with GIs.BACKGROUND Allopolyploidy is widespread in angiosperms, and they can coordinate two or more different genomes through genetic and epigenetic modifications to exhibit stronger vigor and adaptability. Such maps have been used to study a variety of model organisms and proven to be informative of how selection and demographics shape species-wide variation. Here we present a fine-scale recombination map for ten populations of Theobroma cacao - a non-model, long-lived, woody crop. We use this map to elucidate the dynamics of recombination rates in distinct populations of the same species, one of which is domesticated.
