  • Lateral premalleolar bursitis develops on the dorsolateral aspect of the foot anterior to the lateral malleolus, distinct from lateral malleolar bursitis located just around the lateral malleolus.

    A 71-year-old woman visited an orthopedic clinic about 40 years after an episode of ankle sprain and was diagnosed with lateral premalleolar bursitis and osteoarthritis of the left ankle. Stress radiography revealed left ankle anterolateral malleolar bursitis with varus and anterior instability. We opted for less invasive arthroscopic ankle arthrodesis over open resection to stop the communication of the bursitis with the ankle joint. The lateral premalleolar bursitis was located just over the anterolateral portal. The remaining cartilage in the talotibial joint was removed and the subchondral surface was exposed and curetted down to a bleeding surface by ankle arthroscopy. The talotibial joint was fixed with 3 6.0-mm cannulated cancellous screws. The foot and ankle were immobilized by cast for 4 weeks. Bony union was achieved about 8 weeks postoperatively. The patient could perform daily activities without pain and with no recurrence of the lateral premalleolar bursitis at the 1.5-year follow-up.

    To our knowledge, this is the first report on arthroscopic arthrodesis for ankle osteoarthritis with recalcitrant lateral premalleolar bursitis caused by the check valve mechanism of chronic ankle instability after old ankle sprain.

    Advanced abdominal pregnancy (> 20 weeks gestation) is a rare condition life-threatening for mother and fetus.

    A 31-years-old African woman presented from a rural district to Mutoyi Hospital for first gynecological evaluation after 37 weeks of amenorrhea, abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. An ultrasound revealed an extra-uterine fetus. Laparotomy was done and a live fetus weighing 1980 g was delivered. Removal of the placenta, triggered massive bleeding (5000 mL) with shock. After re-laparotomy for post-operative ileus and hemoperitoneum, the mother and infant were discharged in good health.

    Viable fetus can be delivered after an advanced abdominal pregnancy. Removal of the placenta is controversial. We review currently medical literature on advanced abdominal pregnancy and propose a management of the placenta in these patients.

    Megameatus intact Prepuce (MIP) is a rare variant of hypospadias characterized by a wide meatus with a normally conformed prepuce, no chordee, and usually no effects in micturition or sexual physiology. However, quality of life and psychosexuality may be affected.

    A 6-year-old-boy was referred by a general practitioner to the hospital due to an abnormality of the urethral meatus. The patient did not have any complaints. A large external urethral orifice at the ventral area of the coronal glans was discovered. The prepuce was normally-conformed, and there weren't any signs of chordee. The patient was diagnosed with an MIP hypospadias variant and underwent a tubularized incised plate (TIP) urethroplasty. During the follow-up, one week after the procedure, the patient did not have any complaints. Physical examination showed excellent anatomical and functional outcome based on the cosmetic appearance resembling a normal penis and urinary stream.

The interaction effects of LF-MF and light on SMs of M. purpureus was investigated by knocking out the Phy-like gene in M. purpureus (MpPhy) by homologous recombination. A MpPhy-deletion (ΔMpPhy) strain produced less Monascus pigments (MPs) and monacolin K (mon K) than the wild-type (WT) strain and reduced citrinin production by 78.3% on 10th day but didn't affect the biomass. These results indicated that the MpPhy gene is involved in SMs biosynthesis of M. purpureus. MPs production in WT was decreased significantly when the inoculum was exposed to white/blue/green/red light (500 Lux). But it in ΔMpPhy was no significant difference when exposed to white/red light. The colony size of ΔMpPhy was smaller on potato dextrose agar media containing 0.01% SDS. These results indicated that the deletion of MpPhy gene affected the aerial hyphae and increased sensitivity to cell membrane stress but decreased sensitivity to red light. The inoculum of both WT and ΔMpPhy was exposure to the LF-MF (50 Hz). The accumulation of WT secondary metabolites was not changed, while SMs production of ΔMpPhy was significantly enhanced under exposed to 2.0 mT LF-MF. This indicated that the decrease of SMs caused by the deletion of MpPhy gene was restored by LF-MF. It revealed that there is a crosstalk between magnetoreception and photosensitivity.

    The mistreatment of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium is a global public health problem besides being a violation of human rights. However, research exploring the consequences of mistreatment of women and newborns is scarce.

    To shed light on this issue, we investigated the association between the mistreatment of women during childbirth and the subsequent use of postnatal health services by women and their newborns.

    We used data from the study "Birth in Brazil", a national hospital-based survey of puerperal women and their newborns, carried out in 2011/2012. This analysis involved 19,644 women. Mistreatment was a latent variable composed of seven indicators. We assessed the attendance of women and newborns to a review consultation following birth, and the timing of this appointment. We applied multigroup structural equation modeling (based on childbirth payment source) and considered separate analysis for women (vaginal births and0 caesarean-sections) and newborns.

    We found a causal association between mistreatment during childbirth and decreased and/or delayed use of postnatal health services, for both women and their newborns. These results also revealed that women who use the public sector are affected more than those who pay for private healthcare.

    Mistreatment during childbirth has broader implications than "maternal mental health", and it would be useful to understand that experience of care has vast implications for families. In Brazil, the mistreatment must be mitigated via the implementation of public policy. This is part of the path to dignified and respectful childbirth care for all women.

Black, indigenous, and all other women of color are especially harmed by fragmented care and access disparities, coupled with impacts of racism over the life course and in health care.

    We launched the initiative "Bridging the Chasm between Pregnancy and Health across the Life Course" in 2018, bringing together patients, advocates, providers, researchers, policymakers, and systems innovators to create a National Agenda for Research and Action. We held a 2-day conference that blended storytelling, evidence analysis, and consensus building to identify key themes related to gaps in care and root causes of inequities. In 2019, more than 70 stakeholders joined six working groups to reach consensus on strategic priorities based on equity, innovation, effectiveness, and feasibility.

We aimed to explore recent advancements in and provide updated recommendations on AKI risk stratification and information about local AKI risk factors. The Taiwan Acute Kidney Injury Task Force reviewed relevant recently published literature and reached a consensus after group meetings. Systemic review and group discussion were performed. We conducted a meta-analysis according to the PRISMA statement for evaluating the diagnostic performance of the furosemide stress test. Several risk and susceptibility factors were identified through literature review. Contrast-associated AKI prediction models after coronary angiography were one of the most discussed prediction models we found. The basic approach and evaluation of patients with AKI was also discussed. Our meta-analysis found that the furosemide stress test can be used as a prognostic tool for AKI progression and to identify patients with AKI who are at low risk of renal replacement therapy. Factors associated with de novo chronic kidney injury or renal non-recovery after AKI were identified and summarized. Our review provided practical information about early identification of patients at high risk of AKI or disease progression for Taiwan local clinics.
    Three first-line epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are widely available to treat advanced lung adenocarcinoma harboring EGFR mutation. However, studies comparing efficacy or effectiveness of these EGFR TKIs came out with inconclusive results.

    In this real-world data analysis with a nationwide retrospective cohort design, adult patients with newly diagnosed advanced lung adenocarcinoma with EGFR mutation between 2011 and 2016, who received a first-line EGFR TKI, were included. Overall survival (OS) and time to next treatment (TTNT) were compared between patients receiving different EGFR TKIs after overlap weighting.

    We enrolled 10,431 patients, including 6,230, 2,359, and 1842 in gefitinib, erlotinib, and afatinib groups, respectively. The median (95% confidence interval [CI]) OS were 24.2 (22.9-26.2), 25.7 (24.0-27.9), and 29.1 (25.8-32.1) months for those receiving gefitinib, erlotinib, and afatinib, respectively (p=0.001). The hazard ratios (95% CI) for the afatinib group were 0.

However, an obstacle to emulate living cells by CFPS is the loss of activity in the case of usage of high concentration cell extracts. In this study, we found that a high concentration of NTP which inhibits in the case of lower concentration cell extract restored the loss of CFPS activity using high concentration cell extracts. The NTP restoration was independent of the energy regeneration system used, and NTP derivatives also restored the levels of CFPS using a high concentration cell extract. Experiments using dialysis mode of CFPS showed that continuous exchange of small molecule reduced levels of NTP requirement and improved reaction speed of CFPS using the high concentration of cell extract. The results showed that surface-modified APP (APP@Si-171) exhibited significantly better dispersion and less agglomeration tendencies compared with pure APP. A series of target HIPS composites containing different mass fractions of the two flame retardants were prepared by melt blending. TGA and cone calorimeter tests (CCT) were conducted to quantitatively investigate the thermal and flammability properties of the composites, respectively. Results from TGA and CCT demonstrated that the addition of the flame retardants delayed the onset and peak temperatures in differential thermogravimetry (DTG) curves and weakened the peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR). Moreover, the synergistic effect index (SE) was employed to quantify the synergistic behavior between the two fillers, and the results showed that APP@Si-171 and graphene had a synergistic effect on improving the thermal stability and flame retardancy of HIPS.Bearing-only target motion analysis (BO-TMA) by batch processing remains a challenge due to the lack of information on underwater target maneuvering and the nonlinearity of sensor measurements. Traditional batch estimation for BO-TMA is mainly performed based on deterministic algorithms, and studies performed with heuristic algorithms have recently been reported. However, since the two algorithms have their own advantages and disadvantages, interest in a hybrid method that complements the disadvantages and combines the advantages of the two algorithms is increasing. In this study, we proposed Newton-Raphson particle swarm optimization (NRPSO) a hybrid method that combines the Newton-Raphson method and the particle swarm optimization method, which are representative methods that utilize deterministic and heuristic algorithms, respectively. The BO-TMA performance obtained using the proposed NRPSO was tested by varying the measurement noise and number of measurements for three targets with different maneuvers. The community structures of nirS- and nirK-denitrifiers in FeB-HSCW were significantly optimized for improved N removal compared with the two other HSCWs, although no significant differences in their richness and diversity were detected among the HSCWs. The spatial distributions of the relative abundance of genes involved in denitrification and anammox were more heterogeneous and complex in FeB-HSCW than those in other HSCWs. More and larger high-value patches were observed in FeB-HSCW. These revealed that FeB provides more appropriate habitats for N-removing microorganisms, which can prompt the bacteria to use the habitats more differentially, without competitive exclusion. Overall, the Fe-modified biochar enhancement of the microbial N-removal capability of HSCWs was a result of optimized microbial community structures, higher functional gene abundance, and improved spatial distribution of N-removing microorganisms.

However, an obstacle to emulate living cells by CFPS is the loss of activity in the case of usage of high concentration cell extracts. In this study, we found that a high concentration of NTP which inhibits in the case of lower concentration cell extract restored the loss of CFPS activity using high concentration cell extracts. The NTP restoration was independent of the energy regeneration system used, and NTP derivatives also restored the levels of CFPS using a high concentration cell extract. Experiments using dialysis mode of CFPS showed that continuous exchange of small molecule reduced levels of NTP requirement and improved reaction speed of CFPS using the high concentration of cell extract.   • Cell block method (CB) has emerged as an invaluable tool for diagnosis of effusions. It can help overcome the problems faced by conventional smear (CS) by differentiating between reactive, inflammatory and malignant cells. The aim of the study is to compare and correlate the CB diagnosis with the CS findings of various pathological conditions including malignancy.

    Two years prospective cross-sectional study of 117 fluids received for routine examination and/or for cytology was conducted. CS as well as CB was simultaneously prepared from the fluid and the results were correlated and tabulated for statistical analysis.

    Mean age of presentation was 43±21.1 years and male female ratio was 1.31. Ascitic fluid (46.2%) was the most common followed by pleural (40.2%). Among malignancies, primary ovarian and lung carcinoma were the most common to present with malignant ascites (33.3%) and pleural effusion (66.7%) respectively. Six suspicious for malignancy on CS were provided a definitive diagnosis of malignancy on CB. Overall, CB increased the yield of malignancy by 8.3%. The agreement between CB and CS for malignant effusions and suspicious for malignancy were 41.7% and 14.3% respectively. Sensitivity of CS method when compared to CB, for malignant peritoneal and pleural effusions was 90% and 75% respectively while the specificity was 68% and 79% respectively.

    CB has a better diagnostic yield of malignancy and helps in providing a definitive diagnosis for cases that are suspicious for malignancy on CS. Hence, CB should be routinely employed along with CS for all effusions.

The main objective of our study was to evaluate skull base abnormalities in a group of patients diagnosed with Turner syndrome by assessing lateral cephalometric radiographs. A total of 7 patients diagnosed with Turner syndrome in the Endocrinology Department of the Emergency Clinical County Hospital of Craiova were included in the study. The following cephalometric variables were measured in our study total skull base (N-Ba) Nasion (N)-Basion (Ba); anterior skull base (N-S) Nasion (N)-Sella (S); posterior skull base (S-Ba) Sella (S)-Basion (Ba). Regarding the investigated cephalometric variables, the mean±standard deviation (SD) recorded values in our study were 86.34±4.26mm for the total skull base (N-Ba), 63.87±2.54mm for the anterior skull base (N-S) and 38.33±4.87mm for the posterior skull base (S-Ba). The results of our study were compared to the ones provided by one of the most representative studies described in the literature. A reduced size of the posterior base of the skull is considered pathognomonic in subjects diagnosed with Turner syndrome. Also, the posterior base of the skull directly influences the maxillomandibular skeletal relationships and it is therefore necessary to calculate this cephalometric variable, which is easily highlighted on a lateral cephalometric radiograph.Despite progresses made in oncology, pancreatic adenocarcinoma has a grim prognosis and commonly presents with rapidly advancing jaundice which requires endoscopic treatment.
    Our objective was to show the perspective of a high ERCP volume dedicated Center on endoscopic stenting for malignant biliary obstruction consecutive to pancreatic cancer.

    We conducted a retrospective study, between October 2017 and October 2020, and enrolled hospitalized patients within the Gastroenterology Department of the Clinical Emergency Hospital Bucharest, diagnosed with pancreatic cancer with secondary malignant biliary obstruction which underwent ERCP stenting.

    We identified 269 patients which were admitted in our Clinic with a pancreatic lesion on computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging and underwent EUS-FNA. 115 patients with proven pancreatic malignancy were selected and underwent ERCP stenting. 69 received plastic stents and 46 metal biliary stents, with the stent chosen based on patient's characteristics and availability at the time of the procedure. Per total 234 stents were used for relief of the cholestasis syndrome. The number of ERCP procedures was higher in the plastic stents group with a median of 1,8 whereas the SEMS had 1,5 range of procedures. Procedures were successful in 54 patients following plastic stents and 33 that underwent SEMS. At 30 days, overall mortality rate was of 5%.

The cell retained 84 % and 76 % of its room temperature capacity when cycled at -40 and -60 °C, respectively, which presented stable performance over 50 cycles.     Phenomena related to reward responsiveness have been extensively studied in their associations with substance use and socioemotional functioning. One important task in this literature is the Monetary Incentive Delay (MID) task. By cueing and delivering performance-contingent reward, the MID task has been demonstrated to elicit robust activation of neural circuits involved in different phases of reward responsiveness. However, systematic evaluations of common MID task contrasts have been limited to between-study comparisons of group-level activation maps, limiting their ability to directly evaluate how researchers' choice of contrasts impacts conclusions about individual differences in reward responsiveness or brain-behavior associations.

    In a sample of 104 participants (Age Mean=19.3, SD=1.3), we evaluate similarities and differences between contrasts in group- and individual-level activation maps using Jaccard's similarity index, region of interest (ROI) mean signal intensities using Pearson's r, and associations between ROI mean signal intensity and psychological measures using Bayesian correlation.

    Our findings demonstrate more similarities than differences between win and loss cues during the anticipation contrast, dissimilarity between some win anticipation contrasts, an apparent deactivation effect in the outcome phase, likely stemming from the blood oxygen level-dependent undershoot, and behavioral associations that are less robust than previously reported.

    Preliminary image evaluation (PIE) is a mechanism whereby radiographers provide a preliminary evaluation of whether pathology is present in their radiographs, typically acquired within the emergency department (ED). PIE provides referrers with a timely communication of pathology prior to the availability of a radiology report. The purpose of this study was to determine the most common radiographer PIE false-negative interpretations.

    Each month over a two-year period, 100 PIEs of adult and paediatric patients were randomly reviewed in a metropolitan hospital ED. The radiographer's PIE was compared with the radiologist's report and categorised into basic quality indicators; true positive, true negative, false positive and false negative. A retrospective study was conducted to determine high-risk areas of bovine theileriosis and associated risk factors in Zimbabwe. Records on bovine theileriosis spanning 23 years (January 1995 to December 2018) were obtained from the Epidemiological Unit of the Division of Field Veterinary Services of Zimbabwe (DVSZ). Data were analysed using Studio R® version 11.0 for regression analysis and SatScan® version 9.4.6 for spatio-temporal clustering. Communal farmers (72%), adult cattle (29%), the year 2018 (60%) and the hot wet season (42%) had the highest proportion (p less then .050) of bovine theileriosis cases recorded. Seven out of the country's ten provinces and 36 of its 59 districts were affected. Bovine theileriosis was observed to lose seasonality when cases rose exponentially in 2018. Five and four high-risk clusters of bovine theileriosis were detected using one-year and one-month time aggregate, respectively, all within the last eight years of the study (2011-2018).

By cueing and delivering performance-contingent reward, the MID task has been demonstrated to elicit robust activation of neural circuits involved in different phases of reward responsiveness. However, systematic evaluations of common MID task contrasts have been limited to between-study comparisons of group-level activation maps, limiting their ability to directly evaluate how researchers' choice of contrasts impacts conclusions about individual differences in reward responsiveness or brain-behavior associations. In a sample of 104 participants (Age Mean=19.3, SD=1.3), we evaluate similarities and differences between contrasts in group- and individual-level activation maps using Jaccard's similarity index, region of interest (ROI) mean signal intensities using Pearson's r, and associations between ROI mean signal intensity and psychological measures using Bayesian correlation. Our findings demonstrate more similarities than differences between win and loss cues during the anticipation contrast, dissimilarity between some win anticipation contrasts, an apparent deactivation effect in the outcome phase, likely stemming from the blood oxygen level-dependent undershoot, and behavioral associations that are less robust than previously reported. A retrospective study was conducted to determine high-risk areas of bovine theileriosis and associated risk factors in Zimbabwe. Records on bovine theileriosis spanning 23 years (January 1995 to December 2018) were obtained from the Epidemiological Unit of the Division of Field Veterinary Services of Zimbabwe (DVSZ). Data were analysed using Studio R® version 11.0 for regression analysis and SatScan® version 9.4.6 for spatio-temporal clustering. Communal farmers (72%), adult cattle (29%), the year 2018 (60%) and the hot wet season (42%) had the highest proportion (p less then .050) of bovine theileriosis cases recorded. Seven out of the country's ten provinces and 36 of its 59 districts were affected. Bovine theileriosis was observed to lose seasonality when cases rose exponentially in 2018. Five and four high-risk clusters of bovine theileriosis were detected using one-year and one-month time aggregate, respectively, all within the last eight years of the study (2011-2018).

A revised version of the Japanese-language guideline was published in 2020, and here we introduce a part of the contents of revised version.

    The guideline committee discussed and drew up a series of clinical questions (CQs). Recommendation statements for the CQs were limited to items with multiple therapeutic options. Items with established conclusions that had 100% agreement with previous guidelines (background questions) and items with no (or old) evidence that are topics for future research (future research questions FRQs) were given descriptions only. To address the CQs and FRQs, PubMed, ICHUSHI, and other sources were searched for relevant articles published in English from 1983 to October 2018 and articles publigement of colorectal polyps were proposed for 2020. In this manuscript, we provide a comprehensive review of the main treatment options currently available to manage recurrent benign esophageal strictures.Regionally scaled assessments of hydrologic alteration for small streams and its effects on freshwater taxa are often inhibited by a low number of stream gages. To overcome this limitation, we paired modeled estimates of hydrologic alteration to a benthic macroinvertebrate index of biotic integrity data for 4522 stream reaches across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Using separate random-forest models, we predicted flow status (inflated, diminished, or indeterminant) for 12 published hydrologic metrics (HMs) that characterize the main components of flow regimes. We used these models to predict each HM status for each stream reach in the watershed, and linked predictions to macroinvertebrate condition samples collected from streams with drainage areas less than 200 km2. Flow alteration was calculated as the number of HMs with inflated or diminished status and ranged from 0 (no HM inflated or diminished) to 12 (all 12 HMs inflated or diminished). When focused solely on the stream condition and flow-alteration relationship, degraded macroinvertebrate condition was, depending on the number of HMs used, 3.8-4.7 times more likely in a flow-altered site; this likelihood was over twofold higher in the urban-focused dataset (8.7-10.8), and was never significant in the agriculture-focused dataset. Logistic regression analysis using the entire dataset showed for every unit increase in flow-alteration intensity, the odds of a degraded condition increased 3.7%. Our results provide an indication of whether altered streamflow is a possible driver of degraded biological conditions, information that could help managers prioritize management actions and lead to more effective restoration efforts.

    A total of 234 unilateral alveolar cleft cases were performed cone beam computed tomography scans. The digital imaging and communication in medicine data were imported into Simplant Pro software. The radiographic features including nasal septum deviation and inferior turbinate hypertrophy as well as nasal airway volume and sinusitis were analyzed.

    A new radiographic classification of relationship between nasal septum and inferior turbinate (NS-IT) on the cleft side was proposed and three types of NS-IT relationship (type I, II and III) were identified in 234 cases. The statistical analysis revealed that the nasal airway volume on non-cleft side was significantly higher than that on cleft side in each of three types (P  < 0.0001), while no difference of nasal airway volume on non-cleft side was found among three types. In addition, the nasal airway volume on non-cleft side in type I and II was significantly higher than that in type III (P < 0.0001). Also, type III presented higher rate of maxillary sinusitis (P = 0.0154) and ethmoid sinusitis on cleft side (P = 0.0490) than type I and II. The other indexes including clinical variances were not significant among three types.

    Nasoalveolar molding (NAM) is a widely used presurgical orthopedic device, despite disputes over its effectiveness. This study compares the outcomes after cleft lip and nose repair in patients who received NAM versus those who underwent passive alveolar molding with lip taping.

    A retrospective review of patients with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate who received either NAM (n = 16) or passive molding (n = 10) treatments was conducted. Alveolar gap width was measured on maxillary casts until time of palatoplasty. Nasolabial symmetry was assessed by examining anthropometric ratios on post-operative three-dimensional photographs. Burden of care was evaluated by analyzing the number of patient appointments attended, treatment costs, and caregiver satisfaction surveys.

  • This method was successfully applied to extract and characterize the food additive SiO2 from six different types of commercial food.The article analyzes the composition of concrete taken from various elements from a 100-year-old bridge in South Poland, so as to analyze its technical condition. The main methods applied during experimental work were Designation of pH, free chloride content, salinity, XRD and SEM examinations, as well as metals determination using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-ICP-MS, and cold-vapor atomic absorption spectroscopy (CV-AAS). The concrete of the bridge was strongly carbonated and decalcified with an extremely high content of chlorides. The pH of the concrete was in a range from 10.5 to 12.0. Acid soluble components were between 9.9% and 17.6%. Typical sulfate corrosion phases of concrete were not detected. Friedels' salt was found only at the extremity of an arch. The crown block was corroded to the greatest extent. Various heavy metals were absorbed into the concrete, likely from previous centuries, when environmental protection policy was poor. In the studied group of women, it was observed that the prevalence of mutations in the studied PIK3CA and AKT1 genes was 29.63%. It was stated that the average expression level of the PIK3CA, PIK3R1, PTEN genes in the group of breast cancer patients is lower in comparison to the control group, while the average expression level of the AKT1 and mTOR genes in the studied group was higher in comparison to the control group. It was also indicated that in the group of patients with mutations in the area of the PIK3CA and AKT1 genes, the PIK3CA gene expression level is statistically significantly lower than in the group without mutations. Support vector regression (SVR) and a **** propagation (BP) neural network are combined appropriately in this stacking-based ensemble learning model. Then, the model is trained and tested through hundreds of impacts, and the corresponding strain responses are recorded by the embedded FBG sensors. Finally, the performances of different models are compared, and the influence of the time of arrival (ToA) on the neural network is also explored. The results show that compared with a single neural network, ensemble learning has a better capability in impact identification.

  • The permeability study was conducted using transwell devices with hCMEC/D3 cells monolayers and a 1.5-fold higher permeation of curcumin through the BBB was verified. Both SLNs and NLCs are promising for curcumin brain delivery, protecting the incorporated curcumin and targeting to the brain by the addition of transferrin to the nanoparticles surface.The strain IPPAS H-242 is an eustigmatophycean alga with good growth characteristics and high content of the long chain polyunsaturated eicosapentaenoic fatty acid (EPA) - a very-long-chain fatty acid with high nutraceutical value. In this study, based on 18S rRNA gene and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 sequences the strain IPPAS H-242 was identified as an authentic strain of Vischeria punctata. The effect of salt stress (0.5 M NaCl) on growth, cell morphology, ultrastructure, and biochemical composition with the emphasis on the fatty acid (FA) profile was investigated in batch cultures. Under salt stress, biomass accumulation and cell division were severely inhibited; cells were bigger, with higher chloroplast volume and numerous mitochondria, they had more proteins (73 % from the initial concentration as compared to 23 % in control) and their lipids had higher EPA proportion (13.6 % of total FA as compared to 6.4 % of total FA in control). In salt-stressed cells, thylakoid organization and photosynthetic activity were impaired, and D1 protein content decreased to trace amounts. In spite of an increase in EPA proportion in total FA, salt stress causes a decrease in total EPA productivity (49 mg/L as compared to 130 mg/L in control).The interaction of nanoparticles (NP) with proteins (the so-called 'protein corona') is a huge challenge in attempting to apply them in personalized nanomedicine. The hard and soft NPs have differences in the nature of their interactions with phospholipase A2. This enzyme surrounds hard AgNP, whereas dendrimer and amphiphilic dendron form aggregates/micelles with phospholipase A2. There is a difference in action of phospholipase A2 bound to the core of dendrimer, and of micelles formed from non-covalent interactions between the amphiphilic dendron. These data are important in understanding the nature of interaction between different kinds of nanoparticles and proteins.
    This systematic review aims to investigate the efficacy of denture adhesives (DAs) for complete dentures (CDs), and to provide clinical recommendations for prosthodontists and general practitioners.

    Electronic databases (Medline, Embase, CENTRAL) and gray literatures were searched (up to March 2020) for relevant randomized and non-randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs and CCTs) evaluating the efficacy of DAs when applied to CDs. Primary outcomes were objectively assessed variables directly related to mastication (denture retention, maximum bite force and masticatory efficiency). Secondary outcomes included other objectively assessed variables and patient-reported outcomes.

    Of the 1729 records identified, 39 studies (43 articles) were included in the analysis. Among them, 23 were RCTs and 16 were CCTs, with two multicenter clinical trials (1 RCT and 1 CCT). Meta-analysis results indicated that DAs provided significantly higher retention (SMD 1.34, 95 % CI 0.89-1.79, P < 0.001) for CDs. Bite force (SMD 0.98, 95 % CI 0.50-1.47, P < 0.001) and masticatory performance (SMD 0.72, 95 % CI 0.23-1.22, P = 0.004) of the CD wearers were also improved after using DAs, but the effect size was relatively smaller.

    Based on the results of this systematic review, it is concluded that DAs can improve denture retention, bite force and masticatory performance of CD wearers.

PFOA has been frequently detected in environmental media and organisms, leading to increased health risks. There is a lack of information about the immunotoxicity of aquatic organisms induced by PFOA, and the molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, LC-MS analysis proved that PFOA can accumulate in the kidney of zebrafish. In the 0.05 mg/L PFOA treatment group, the accumulation of PFOA in the kidney after 21 days of exposure significantly increased by 79.89%, compared to 14 days of exposure. And a hydropic endoplasmic reticulum, swelling of mitochondria and vacuolization were observed in kidney immune cells of zebrafish. The Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2)/myeloid differentiation factor 88 (myd88)/NF-κB (P65) pathway was activated when PFOA exerted its effects, which led to regulation of antibody expression; RT-PCR results showed that the mRNA expression level of interleukin-4 (IL-4) decreased in a dose-dependent manner, decreasing to 29.6% of the control level in the 1 mg/L PFOA group after 21 d of exposure. According to triangle plot analysis, immunoglobulin exhibited a notable stress response to PFOA at an early phase; a high concentration of PFOA may disrupt the immune system of zebrafish. Third-order polynomial fitting analysis showed that the high-mRNA-expression regions of IL-4 and antibodies were partially consistent. The results indicated that PFOA could affect antibodies by increasing the concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines.
