The effects of CO2 pretreatment before cold storage on tomato quality were investigated using physicochemical and transcriptome changes. Harvested tomatoes were treated with 30% or 60% CO2 for 3 h before storage at 4 °C for 14 d (cold storage), followed by transfer to 20 °C for 8 d (ambient conditions). The CO2-treated fruits were firmer with a better appearance than untreated fruits, even after being transferred from 4 °C storage to 20 °C for 8 d. CO2 pretreatment coupled with cold storage synergistically delayed tomato ripening by reducing respiration and lowering lycopene production. The tomatoes treated with 30% and 60% CO2 had fewer pits than untreated fruits after cold storage, even after being transferred to ambient conditions. Moreover, the 60% CO2 treatment significantly suppressed the decay rate. Transcriptome and metabolome functional enrichment analyses commonly showed the involvement of CO2-responsive genes or metabolites in sucrose and starch metabolism, as well as biosynthesis of secondary metabolites-in particular, glycolysis reduction. The most frequently detected domain was the ethylene-responsive factor. These results indicate that altered ethylene biosynthesis and ethylene signaling, via ethylene-responsive transcription factors and respiration-related pathways, appear to control CO2-induced fruit quality.Rheological measurements of polymer melts are widely used for quality control and the optimization of processing. This paper gives an overview of the influence of molar mass, molar mass distribution and long-chain branching on various rheological characteristics and describes the analytical power following from established relations. With respect to applications, we discuss how rheological measurements can be used to gain insight into the thermal stability of a material. A special impact lies in the demonstration, how long-chain branching can be analyzed using rheological means like the zero-shear viscosity as a function of molar mass and strain hardening occurring in elongation. For contributions to branching analysis, the thermorheological behavior and activation energies are particularly discussed. The use of elastic quantities in the case of mechanical pretreatment effects is briefly addressed. The influence of fillers on recoverable properties in the linear range of deformation is analyzed and the role of their specific surface area for interactions described. It is shown how the fundamental results can be applied to study the state of nanoparticle dispersions obtained under special conditions. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the findings on polymer/filler systems are the base of structure analyses in heterogeneous polymeric materials like polyvinylchloride (PVC) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers (ABS).Athletes in a particular sport have specific cognitive skills acquired due to regular confrontation with sport-specific requirements. Here, we attempted to identify a dual-selective NRF2 regulator that exerts opposite effects on NRF2-hyperactivated HCC cells and normal keratinocytes. An antioxidant response element driven luciferase reporter assay was established in Huh7 and HaCaT cells as high-throughput screening platforms. Screening of 3,000 crude extracts from the Taiwanese Indigenous Plant Extract Library resulted in the identification of Beilschmiedia tsangii (BT) root extract as a dual-selective NRF2 regulator. Multiple compounds were found to contribute to the dual-selective effects of BT extract on NRF2 signaling in two cell lines. BT extract reduced NRF2 protein level and target gene expression levels in Huh7 cells but increased them in HaCaT cells. Furthermore, notable combinatory cytotoxic effects of BT extract and sorafenib on Huh7 cells were observed. On the contrary, sorafenib-induced inflammatory reactions in HaCaT cells were reduced by BT extract. In conclusion, our results suggest that the combination of a selective NRF2 activator and inhibitor could be a practical strategy for fine-tuning NRF2 activity for better cancer treatment and that plant extracts or partially purified fractions could be a promising source for the discovery of dual-selective NRF2 regulators.The study of the membrane protein, CD24, and its emerging role in major disease processes, has made a huge leap forward in the past two decades. First described in the 1980s as the homologous human protein to the mouse HSA (Heat Stable Antigen), it was reported as a surface marker in developing hematopoietic cell lines. The later discovery of its overexpression in a large number of human neoplasms, lead cancer researchers to discover its various active roles in critical checkpoints during cancer development and progression. Targeting CD24 in directed drug development showed promising results in cancer treatment. More recently, the chimeric CD24-Fc protein has shown exciting results in clinical trials as a specific modulator of auto-inflammatory syndromes. This report is aimed to summarize the relevant literature on CD24 and tie it together with recent advancements in cardiovascular research.

This prospective study was carried out on 100 patients with newly diagnosed CLL. Bax and Bcl-2 expression in peripheral blood were measured by flow-cytometry. The association of Bax/Bcl-2 ratio with CLL laboratory markers, Rai stage, overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) at 18 months was investigated. The sensitivity and specificity of Bax/Bcl-2 in predicting survival was evaluated. The best cut-off value of Bax/Bcl-2 ratio to predict the survival, detected by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, was 1.2 with 80 % sensitivity and 60.86 % specificity. A ratio of ≤1.20 was detected in 78 % of patients and was associated with worse prognosis. A lower Bax/Bcl-2 ratio was associated with higher modified Rai stage at time of diagnosis and a significantly shorter both OS (64.1 % versus 90.9 %, p less then 0.026) and PFS (66.7 % versus 90.9 %, p less then 0.031) at 18 months. In multivariate analysis, bax/bcl-2 ≤ 1.2 was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival, (p = 0.025). We concluded that lower Bax /Bcl-2 ratios were associated with worse prognosis as evidenced by lower OS and PFS in CLL patients. It was also associated with markers of high tumor burden and unfavorable prognostic markers. Recognition of patients with low Bax /Bcl-2 ratio would make them good candidates for the novel Bcl-2 inhibitory targeted chemotherapy to avoid resistance to the traditional therapy.
Low income, a known prognostic indicator of various chronic respiratory diseases, has not been properly studied in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). We hypothesize that a low income has an adverse prognostic impact on IPF.
Patients were selected from the French national prospective cohort COFI. Patients' income was assessed through the median city-level income provided by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies according to their residential address. Patients were classified in two groups as "low income" vs. "higher income" depending on whether their annual income was estimated to be < or ≥18170 €/year (the first quartile of the income distribution in the study population). The survival and progression-free survival (PFS) of the groups were compared by a log-rank test and a Cox model in multivariate analysis.
200 patients were included. The average follow-up was 33.8±22.7 months. Patients in the low income group were significantly more likely to be of non-European origin (p<0.006), and to have at least one occupational exposure (p<0.0001), and they tended to have a higher cumulative exposure to fine particles PM
(p=0.057). After adjusting for age, gender, forced vital capacity at inclusion, geographical origin, and occupational exposure having a low-income level was a factor associated with a worse PFS (HR 1.81; CI
1.24-2.62, p=0.001) and overall survival (HR 1.49; CI

Evaluation of these reported patients demonstrates that FLTT is feasible in the salvage setting with promising short-term oncologic outcomes and with the potential to preserve functional outcomes. Repeat focal therapy for previous failures is feasible however, it requires sophisticated imaging modalities for the accurate identification of recurrence and treatment of the tumor.Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is an important contributor to musculoskeletal morbidity, but effective strategies to screen for DDH remain controversial. Girls were more likely to be screened and diagnosed with DDH, comprising 72% of DDH cases with an OR of 2.55 (95% CI 2.42-2.69), p less then 0.001. Hip US screening was employed in 0.9% of the infant population on average but increased substantially from 2007 (0.4%) to 2017 (2.2%). Most common billing diagnoses included hip deformity (27.4%), breech delivery (20.4%), and physical exam abnormality (17.7%). The average imaging costs per patient for all screened children was $108.94. Insurance claims reflect the current American practice of selective hip US with relative adherence to American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines based on reported diagnoses. While hip US utilization increased during the study period, prevalence of DDH diagnoses did not increase. Our results suggest that expansion of hip US screening may not effectively increase DDH detection although further investigation is needed to ascertain optimal screening strategies to improve patient outcomes.

The implementation of a source to drain tunneling in ultrascaled devices using MS-EMC has traditionally led to overestimated current levels in the subthreshold regime. In order to correct this issue and enhance the capabilities of this type of simulator, we discuss in this paper two alternative and self-consistent solutions focusing on different parts of the simulation flow. The first solution reformulates the tunneling probability computation by modulating the WKB approximation in a suitable way. The second corresponds to a change in the current calculation technique based on the utilization of the Landauer formalism. The results from both solutions are compared and contrasted to NEGF results from NESS. We conclude that the current computation modification constitutes the most suitable and advisable strategy to improve the MS-EMC tool.Difficulties in walking, controlling balance, and performing activities of daily living are common problems encountered by individuals affected by Parkinson disease. Scientific evidence suggests that exercise performed with music or auditory or rhythmical cues facilitates movement and improves balance, gait, mobility, and activities of daily living (ADL) performance in patients with PD. The aim of this umbrella review was to summarize available high-quality evidence from systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the effectiveness of rhythmically cued exercise to improve gait, mobility, and ADL performance in individuals with PD. PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases were searched from January 2010 to October 2020 for systematic reviews and meta-analyses which had to be (1) written in English, (2) include studies on populations of males and females with PD of any age, (3) analyze outcomes related to gait, mobility, and ADL, and (4) apply exercise interventions with music or auditory or rhythmical cues. Two independent authors screened potentially eligible studies and assessed the methodological quality of the studies using the AMSTAR 2 tool. Four studies, two systematic reviews and meta-analyses, one a systematic review, and one a meta-analysis, were selected. Overall results indicated positive effects for gait and mobility of the use of rhythmic auditory cueing with exercise and suggested that it should be incorporated into a regular rehabilitation program for patients affected by PD. The test phenomenon shown that the crack resistance of HSFRC was better than that of NSC, and there were some splitting cracks on NSC slabs whereas no visible cracks on HSFRC slabs when specimens failed. Next, the load-slip curves of studs were analyzed and a typical load-slip curve was proposed which was divided into four stages. In addition, the effects of test parameters were analyzed according to the characteristic points of load-slip curve. Compared with NSC slab, HSFRC slab could provide greater restraining force to the studs, which improved the shear capacity and stiffness of studs while suppressed the ductility of studs. The shear capacity, stiffness and ductility of studs would significantly increase with the increasement of stud diameter and the studs with large diameter were more suitable for steel-HSFRC composite beams. The stud height had no obvious influence on the static performance of studs. Finally, based on the test results, the empirical formulas for load-slip curve and shear capacity of stud connectors embedded in HSFRC were developed which considered the influence factors more comprehensively and had better accuracy and applicability than previous formulas.
The implementation of a source to drain tunneling in ultrascaled devices using MS-EMC has traditionally led to overestimated current levels in the subthreshold regime. In order to correct this issue and enhance the capabilities of this type of simulator, we discuss in this paper two alternative and self-consistent solutions focusing on different parts of the simulation flow. The first solution reformulates the tunneling probability computation by modulating the WKB approximation in a suitable way. The second corresponds to a change in the current calculation technique based on the utilization of the Landauer formalism. The results from both solutions are compared and contrasted to NEGF results from NESS. We conclude that the current computation modification constitutes the most suitable and advisable strategy to improve the MS-EMC tool.Difficulties in walking, controlling balance, and performing activities of daily living are common problems encountered by individuals affected by Parkinson disease. The aim of this umbrella review was to summarize available high-quality evidence from systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the effectiveness of rhythmically cued exercise to improve gait, mobility, and ADL performance in individuals with PD. PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases were searched from January 2010 to October 2020 for systematic reviews and meta-analyses which had to be (1) written in English, (2) include studies on populations of males and females with PD of any age, (3) analyze outcomes related to gait, mobility, and ADL, and (4) apply exercise interventions with music or auditory or rhythmical cues. Two independent authors screened potentially eligible studies and assessed the methodological quality of the studies using the AMSTAR 2 tool. Four studies, two systematic reviews and meta-analyses, one a systematic review, and one a meta-analysis, were selected. The urban planning method adopted by rural planners is not suitable in rural regions, because the planning potential of rural areas with high and low FD values varies. Although rural planning currently uses a very similar approach to urban planning, it should use a local, flexible and adaptive policy based on rural morphological characteristics.We have developed a membrane filter-assisted cell-based biosensing platform by using a polyester membrane as a three-dimensional (3D) cell culture scaffold in which cells can be grown by physical attachment. The membrane was simply treated with ethanol to increase surficial hydrophobicity, inducing the stable settlement of cells via gravity. The 3D membrane scaffold was able to provide a relatively longer cell incubation time (up to 16 days) as compared to a common two-dimensional (2D) cell culture environment. For a practical application, we fabricated a cylindrical cartridge to support the scaffold membranes stacked inside the cartridge, enabling not only the maintenance of a certain volume of culture media but also the simple exchange of media in a flow-through manner. The cartridge-type cell-based analytical system was exemplified for pathogen detection by measuring the quantities of toll-like receptor 1 (TLR1) induced by applying a lysate of P. aeruginosa and live E. coli, respectively, providing a fast, convenient colorimetric TLR1 immunoassay. The color images of membranes were digitized to obtain the response signals. We expect the method to further be applied as an alternative tool to animal testing in various research areas such as cosmetic toxicity and drug efficiency.

In this prospective study, patients with pituitary adenomas who were scheduled for transsphenoidal surgery completed the Short Form 36 Questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Epworth Sleepiness Scale preoperatively and 7.5 (±1.5) months after surgery. Genomic DNA was isolated, and whole exome sequencing was performed. A series of bioinformatic analyses were performed with the obtained paired-end sequencing reads, and the variants were filtered and annotated with dbSNP147. There was no abnormality in the constitutional chromosome study. Whole exome sequencing analysis with trio samples identified a homozygous mutation (c.506T>C, p. (Leu169Pro)) in the PEX26 gene. We verified "temperature sensitivity (ts)" of patient-derived Pex26-L169P by expression in pex26 CHO mutant ZP167 cells to determine the effect of the L169P mutation on Pex26 function. The L169P mutation causes a mild ts-cellular phenotype representing the decreased peroxisomal import of catalase. The cluster analysis revealed five different types of commuters car-oriented, two-wheeled urban users, pedestrians, long-distance commuters, and regular bus users. Attitudes, personal constraints and norms, and satisfaction differed in the five groups of commuters. The present study provides insights for behavioural change programmes and organizational policies on sustainable mobility.

Currently, there is no effective medicine to treat this virus. In our previous experiments, the low-molecular-weight Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharide (SFP) was proven to possess antiviral activity against ALV-J, but its function was limited to the virus adsorption stage. In order to improve the antiviral activity of the SFP, in this study, three new SFP long-chain alkyl group nanomicelles (SFP-C12M, SFP-C14M and SFP-C16M) were prepared. The nanomicelles were characterized according to their physical and chemical properties. The nanomicelles were characterized by particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, critical micelle concentration and morphology. The results showed the particle sizes of the three nanomicelles were all approximately 200 nm and SFP-C14M and SFP-C16M were more stable than SFP-C12M. The newly prepared nanomicelles exhibited a better anti-ALV-J activity than the SFP, with SFP-C16M exhibiting the best antiviral effects in both the virus adsorption stage and the replication stage. The results of the giant unilamellar vesicle exposure experiment demonstrated that the new virucidal effect of the nanomicelles might be caused by damage to the phospholipid membrane of ALV-J. The use of Pd nanoparticles supported on the rich-functionalized surface carbons obtained by H3PO4 activation led to superior catalytic activity for the polyunsaturated fatty acid methyl ester (poly-FAME) hydrogenation, which could achieve 90% poly-FAME conversion and 84% selectivity towards monounsaturated FAME after a 45-min reaction time. This is due to the small Pd nanoparticle size and the high acidity of the catalysts, which are beneficial for the partial hydrogenation of poly-FAME in biodiesel. Currently, there is no effective medicine to treat this virus. In our previous experiments, the low-molecular-weight Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharide (SFP) was proven to possess antiviral activity against ALV-J, but its function was limited to the virus adsorption stage. In order to improve the antiviral activity of the SFP, in this study, three new SFP long-chain alkyl group nanomicelles (SFP-C12M, SFP-C14M and SFP-C16M) were prepared. The nanomicelles were characterized according to their physical and chemical properties. The nanomicelles were characterized by particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, critical micelle concentration and morphology. The results showed the particle sizes of the three nanomicelles were all approximately 200 nm and SFP-C14M and SFP-C16M were more stable than SFP-C12M. The newly prepared nanomicelles exhibited a better anti-ALV-J activity than the SFP, with SFP-C16M exhibiting the best antiviral effects in both the virus adsorption stage and the replication stage. The results of the giant unilamellar vesicle exposure experiment demonstrated that the new virucidal effect of the nanomicelles might be caused by damage to the phospholipid membrane of ALV-J. The surface chemistry properties of NPC were the main factors influencing the Pd particle size; by contrast, the textural properties did not significantly affect the size of the Pd particles on NPC supports. The use of Pd nanoparticles supported on the rich-functionalized surface carbons obtained by H3PO4 activation led to superior catalytic activity for the polyunsaturated fatty acid methyl ester (poly-FAME) hydrogenation, which could achieve 90% poly-FAME conversion and 84% selectivity towards monounsaturated FAME after a 45-min reaction time. In lowland lakes characterized as mesotrophic or tending to mesotrophy, smelt, vendace, and two to three cyprinids comprised the pelagic fish stock. These fish species predate zooplankton effectively, and species composition and body size of planktonic cladocerans was affected by fish density. Large species of Daphnia were lacking in lakes with high fish density, and body size of present species, D. galeata, D. cristata, and Bosmina spp. were negatively correlated with pelagic fish density.We report the development of a laser gas analyzer that measures gas concentrations at a data rate of 100 Hz. This fast data rate helps eddy covariance calculations for gas fluxes in turbulent high wind speed environments. The laser gas analyzer is based on derivative laser absorption spectroscopy and set for measurements of water vapor (H2O, at wavelength ~1392 nm) and carbon dioxide (CO2, at ~2004 nm). This instrument, in combination with an ultrasonic anemometer, has been tested experimentally in both marine and terrestrial environments. First, we compared the accuracy of results between the laser gas analyzer and a high-quality commercial instrument with a max data rate of 20 Hz. We then analyzed and compared the correlation of H2O flux results at data rates of 100 Hz and 20 Hz in both high and low wind speeds to verify the contribution of high frequency components. The measurement results show that the contribution of 100 Hz data rate to flux calculations is about 11% compared to that measured with 20 Hz data rate, in an environment with wind speed of ~10 m/s. Therefore, it shows that the laser gas analyzer with high detection frequency is more suitable for measurements in high wind speed environments.Adverse food reactions include immune-mediated food allergies and non-immune-mediated intolerances. However, this distinction and the involvement of different pathogenetic mechanisms are often confused. Furthermore, there is a discrepancy between the perceived vs. actual prevalence of immune-mediated food allergies and non-immune reactions to food that are extremely common. The risk of an inappropriate approach to their correct identification can lead to inappropriate diets with severe nutritional deficiencies. This narrative review provides an outline of the pathophysiologic and clinical features of immune and non-immune adverse reactions to food-along with general diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Special emphasis is placed on specific nutritional concerns for each of these conditions from the combined point of view of gastroenterology and immunology, in an attempt to offer a useful tool to practicing physicians in discriminating these diverging disease entities and planning their correct management. We conclude that a correct diagnostic approach and dietary control of both immune- and non-immune-mediated food-induced diseases might minimize the nutritional gaps in these patients, thus helping to improve their quality of life and reduce the economic costs of their management.

The contact angles of oils (e.g., pump oil, castor oil, corn oil, hexadecane and bean oil) and water on the coatings are over 150° and close to 0°, respectively. By optimization, the representative SiO2-coated Cu mesh displayed high-efficiency of 99.2% in separating water from mixture of water/pump oil, and high penetration flux of 1.41 × 104 L·m-2 ·h-1. Besides, the coating maintains its superhydrophilic-superoleophobic properties even after 110 cycles of sandpaper abrasion or after being immersed in water for 3 h. After 20 cycles of oil/water separation, the coating retains separation efficiency up to 97.93%. Despite mounting evidence supporting an etiologic role for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in multiple sclerosis (MS), the exact mechanisms through which the virus may contribute to disease development are still unknown. The aim of this study was to analyze seven highly polymorphic EBV latently expressed genes in individuals diagnosed with MS in comparison to healthy controls (HC), to investigate the possible association of EBV variants with an individual's risk towards MS.
B-lymphocytes were isolated from MS patients (n=30) and HC (n=33) for the isolation of EBV genomic DNA. Sanger sequencing was employed to analyze EBV latent gene regions.
A total of 26 variants were detected in our cohort, 17 of which were significantly associated with the MS group while nine were significantly associated with HC. Following the designation of EBV alleles based on these variants, MS risk was found to be significantly associated with the presence of the EBNA3B2.1 allele (p=0.0008) and LMP1.1 allele (p=0.01), whereas the EBNA1.3 allele (p=0.005), EBNA2.1 allele (p=0.001) as well as the EBNA3B2.2 allele (p=0.0003) appeared to provide a protective role.

Infections can trigger exacerbations of multiple sclerosis (MS). The effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on MS are not known. The aim of this study was to understand the impact of COVID-19 on new and pre-existing symptoms of MS.
The COVID-19 and MS study is an ongoing community-based, prospective cohort study conducted as part of the United Kingdom MS Register. People with MS and COVID-19 were invited by email to complete a questionnaire about their MS symptoms during the infection. An MS exacerbation was defined as developing new MS symptoms and/or worsening of pre-existing MS symptoms.
Fifty-seven percent (230/404) of participants had an MS exacerbation during their infection; 82 developed new MS symptoms, 207 experienced worsened pre-existing MS symptoms, and 59 reported both. Disease modifying therapies (DMTs) reduced the likelihood of developing new MS symptoms during the infection (OR 0.556, 95%CI 0.316-0.978). An approach to differentiate between car and truck tire wear and to quantify their respective mass loads is presented. Complex environmental samples such as road dust, fresh water and marine sediments, blue mussels, and marine salts were partly retrospectively analyzed using Py-GC/MS. The results showed ratios of car to truck tire wear up to 16 to 1 and underline the dominance of car compared to truck tire wear mass loads in all analyzed samples. Our results highlight the correlation between empirical propagule duration data and connectivity potential and show weak network connectivity and strong isolation for major ecological groups, resulting from the lack of direct connectivity corridors between reserves over vast regions. The particularly high isolation predicted for ecosystem structuring species (e.g., corals, sponges, macroalgae and seagrass) might potentially undermine biodiversity conservation efforts if local retention is insufficient and unmanaged populations are at risk. Isolation might also be problematic for populations' persistence in the light of climate change and expected species range shifts. The aim of this study was to explore changes in the microvascular tone as measured by laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) and the microcirculation structure of the dorsal skin of rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The diabetic rat model was induced by a diet of high-sugar and high-lipid fodder combined with the injection of streptozotocin into the abdominal cavity. Depending on the interval between the development of diabetes and the experiments, the diabetic rats were subdivided into three groups. The evaluation of microvascular tone was based on the amplitude responses of the LDF signal fluctuations in the appropriate frequency range in the dorsal skin of the rats during a thermal test (at 42 °C). The nitric oxide (NO) level in plasma was also used as a marker of endothelial dysfunction. Changes in the microcirculation structure in the diabetic rats were estimated by measuring the microvascular density in the choke vessels of the dorsal skin of the rats. This current study analyzes the trends in COVID-19 testing, and COVID-19 antigen and antibody positivity rates over a 3-month time-span from October to December 2020. A retrospective study was conducted collecting data from a mobile testing program during October to December 2020 in the Phoenix metropolitan area. COVID-19 antigen and antibody positivity rates were analyzed. A total of 6710 patients were included in the study. As the months progressed, more patients were tested (October 1635; November 2037; December 3038). The COVID-19 antigen positivity rate was significantly higher in December, compared to October and November (13.43% vs. 11.43 and 10.86%, p = 0.021). COVID-19 IgG rates were also significantly higher in November and December, compared to October (16.65 and 16.50% vs. 8.74%, p less then 0.001). There was a progressive increase in COVID-19 positivity cases towards the end of 2020, likely attributed to factors including social gatherings during the holidays and the relaxing of the closure restrictions. Continued public health measures is crucial in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Selenium has been suggested to be protective against breast cancer, but the evidence remains inconclusive. Hence, it is important to further examine the potential protective effect. This prospective cohort study investigates pre-diagnostic selenium intake in relation to breast cancer risk. In addition, we analyze serum selenium as a marker of dietary intake.
This study includes 17,035 women in the Malmö Diet and Cancer cohort. Dietary assessment and serum samples were collected at baseline (1991-1996). During 344,584 person-years of follow-up, 1,427 incident cases were retrieved. Cox regression analysis examined breast cancer risks adjusted for potential confounding factors. In addition, odds ratios (ORs) were estimated for 1186 cases and an equal number of controls in relation to quartiles (Q) of selenium intake and groups consisting of a combination of intake and serum selenium levels.
No overall association between selenium intake, or a combination of intake and serum levels, and breast cancer risk was found. The adjusted relative risk for breast cancer in selenium intake Q4 versus Q1 was 0.96 (0.83-1.12) (P

The emotion regulation strategies people adopt may depend on one's belief about emotion as either fixed or changeable (termed "implicit theory"). We test this experimentally by modifying beliefs about emotions using virtual reality (VR). A sample of 29 adolescents (ages 14-17 years) were recruited from two adolescent inpatient units for an uncontrolled pilot trial of a new brief intervention. We measured BPD traits, beliefs about emotion, treatment preference, cognitive reappraisal and rumination, before the VR game and 14-31 days later. Adolescents with higher levels of BPD traits endorsed fixed beliefs of emotion and reported higher levels of rumination and lower levels of cognitive reappraisal. After a one-time message delivered via VR, adolescents evidenced an increase in belief that their emotions were changeable. These findings suggest beliefs about emotions may have an important role in interventions for adolescents with BPD traits.

An interdisciplinary plan for rapid diagnosis, acute management, and treatment prevents devastating outcomes and optimizes care. Emergency pretreatment with steroids or radiation is more likely to be administered when care is variable, which may delay and complicate diagnosis and treatment. Strategies to standardize care and expedite diagnosis may improve acute patient safety and long-term outcomes.
The aim of this quality improvement project was to decrease time from presentation to diagnostic biopsy for children with an anterior mediastinal mass by 50% over 3years within a tertiary healthcare system.
This quality improvement project involved a single center with data collected and analyzed retrospectively and prospectively for 71 patients presenting with anterior mediastinal mass between February 2008 and January 2018. The Model for Improvement was utilized for project design and development of a driver diagrao biopsy for children presenting with mediastinal mass and may result in decreased use of emergent pretreatment.

We compared cortical oscillations (5-80 Hz) temporally linked to 3,749 IEDs (1,945 frontal and 1,803 temporal) versus an equal number of IED-free segments. We correlated results from IED triggered oscillations to global neurocognitive performance. Only frontal IEDs triggered alpha-beta oscillations over posterior head regions. IEDs with higher amplitude triggered alpha-beta oscillations of higher magnitude. The intensity of posterior head region alpha-beta oscillations significantly correlated with a better neuropsychological profile. Our study demonstrated that cerebral cortex protects itself from IEDs with generation of inhibitory alpha-beta oscillations at distant cortical regions. The association of more prominent oscillations with a better cognitive status suggests that this mechanism might play a role in determining the cognitive resilience in patients with FLE.
The hippocampus (HP) plays a critical role in memory and orientational functions and is functionally heterogeneous along the longitudinal anterior-posterior axis. Although the previous study has reported volumetric atrophy in hippocampal subfields of patients with poststroke dementia (PSD), how the functional connectivity (FC) is altered in these subfields remains unclear.
To examine the FC changes of the HP subfields in patients with PSD.

Our aim was to describe factors associated with uptake of IFN-free DAAs in DC patients and to compare mortality risk and hospital admission rates between pre-DAA and DAA eras. This observational study used record-linkage between Scotland's HCV Clinical Database and national inpatient hospitalization and mortality registers. For the DAA uptake analysis, the study population (n = 297) was restricted to patients alive on 1 November 2014, and Cox regression was used to estimate uptake associated with various covariates. For the Cox regression of mortality comparing pre-DAA and DAA eras, the study population (n = 624) comprised those diagnosed with DC in 2005-2018; follow-up was censored at two years. DAA uptake was 63% overall and was significantly higher for treatment-experienced patients (adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) = 1.64, 95% CI1.14-2.34), genotype 1 vs. other genotypes (aHR = 1.55. 95% CI1.15-2.10) and lower for persons diagnosed with DC pre-2014 (0.47, 95% CI0.33-0.68) and in Greater Glasgow (0.64, 95% CI0.47-0.88). The intention-to-treat SVR rate was 89% (95% CI83-93%). All-cause and liver-related mortality risk were significantly reduced among patients diagnosed with DC in the DAA era (November 2014-December 2018) compared with the pre-DAA era (2005-October 2014) (aHRs of 0.68, 95% CI0.49-0.93; 0.69, 95% CI0.50-0.95, respectively); in contrast, hospital admission rates were higher in the DAA era (aRR = 1.14, 95% CI1.04-1.26). The majority of HCV-infected DC patients engaged with specialist services can be treated with IFN-free DAAs. Improved survival among patients diagnosed with DC in the DAA era supports the beneficial impact of IFN-free therapies among those with advanced liver disease.

Forced expiratory volumes in 1 s (FEV1) (% of predicted) were 71.88% ± 8.46% and 59.45% ± 27.45% in the hUC-****and control groups (P less then 0.01), respectively, and FEV1/forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) ratios were 79.95% ± 8.00% and 58.97% ± 19.16% in the hUC-****and control groups, respectively (P less then 0.05). SGRQ scores were lower in the hUC-****group than in the control group (15.25 ± 3.69 vs. 31.9 ± 8.78, P less then 0.05). Participants (N = 2,019) were recruited through Amazon's Mechanical Turk. Data were assessed for dimensionality, item functioning, instrument properties, and associations with other variables. Regarding dimensionality, although a two-factor model (positively vs. negatively oriented factors) exhibits better fit than a unidimensional model across all conditions, bifactor indices were used to argue that a unidimensional interpretation of the data can be employed. With respect to item functioning, factor loadings were found to be nearly invariant across conditions, but thresholds were not. Acute pain significantly delays early physiological recovery and results in chronic functional disability in patients with traumatic multiple rib fractures (MRFs). This prospective cohort study aimed to investigate the feasibility of acupuncture combined with multidisciplinary care during recovery in patients with traumatic MRFs.
Twenty patients with traumatic MRFs who were admitted to a regional trauma centre in South Korea were enrolled. A combination of acupuncture and multidisciplinary inpatient ward management was provided at the trauma ward. Patients were permitted to continue acupuncture treatments at outpatient clinics for 3 months after the traumatic events. Clinical outcomes, including pain, acute physiological recovery, quality of life, patient satisfaction with the care provided, respiratory function and use of opioids, were evaluated up to 6 months after trauma.
Seventeen (85%) participants completed the 6-month follow-up. One patient withdrew consent during admission due to discomfort after three sessions of acupuncture. The proportion of patients with above-moderate level of pain decreased from 95% at baseline to 41% at 6 months. Quality of life appeared to deteriorate consistently throughout the study period. Around 80% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the acupuncture treatments and stated that they found acupuncture to be acceptable. Over 94% of respondents reported slight or considerable improvement.
The provision of acupuncture combined with multidisciplinary care for recovery in patients with traumatic MRFs was feasible in a regional trauma centre in South Korea. Randomised trials are needed to investigate the role of acupuncture combined with multidisciplinary care in the future.

This study aimed to investigate psychometric properties of a German translation of the BEAQ in a student and a clinical population. The BEAQ showed high internal reliability and overall acceptable convergent and discriminant validity. The BEAQ displayed adequate 7- to 13-day test-retest reliability and captured changes in experiential avoidance when experiential avoidance was targeted in treatment. Confirmatory factor analyses indicated that a bifactor structure where the BEAQ is modeled as one general and five specific factors that correspond to the Multidimensional Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire subscales fit the data adequately. All items (except Item 1 in the clinical population) loaded on the general factor and common variance was approximately equally spread across the general and specific factors. The Distress Endurance subscale was not included in this model, since it is represented by only one item, which showed poor performances and low associations to the BEAQ's total score in both samples.
Forced expiratory volumes in 1 s (FEV1) (% of predicted) were 71.88% ± 8.46% and 59.45% ± 27.45% in the hUC-MSC and control groups (P less then 0.01), respectively, and FEV1/forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) ratios were 79.95% ± 8.00% and 58.97% ± 19.16% in the hUC-MSC and control groups, respectively (P less then 0.05). SGRQ scores were lower in the hUC-MSC group than in the control group (15.25 ± 3.69 vs. 31.9 ± 8.78, P less then 0.05). The rate of wheezing in the hUC-MSC group was also significantly lower than that in the control group (37.5% vs. 75%, P less then 0.05). There were no significant differences in CT scores between the two groups (0.60 ± 0.88 vs. 1.00 ± 1.31, P = 0.917).
