Inadequate bowel preparation before colonoscopy has a 20-30% rate and impedes on the quality of the procedure. The aim of this study was to develop a predictive score of inadequate bowel preparation, using a patient questionnaire on potential risk factors.
In this single center study, consecutive patients with colonoscopy indication were enrolled. The primary outcome was inadequate bowel preparation defined by Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS) score <7 or a score ≤1 in any of the 3 colonic segments.
A total of 561 patients were included. Inadequate bowel preparation was seen in 25.0% of cases. Seven risk factors were selected into the prediction model of inadequate bowel preparation diabetes or obesity, irregular physical activity, cirrhosis, use of antidepressants or neuroleptics, use of opiate medication, history of surgery and history of inadequate bowel preparation. The risk score, named PREPA-CO, had an AUROC of 0.621, adequately predicted bowel cleanliness in 68.3% of cases, with a specificity of 75.8% and a negative predictive value of 80.8%.

Hepatoblastoma (HB) is a rare embryonal liver tumor of children. Although intrinsic biological differences between tumors can affect prognosis, few groups have studied these differences. Given the recent increased attention to epigenetic mechanisms in the genesis and progression of these tumors, we aimed to classify HB samples according to the stages of liver development and DNA methylation machinery.
We evaluated the expression of 24 genes associated with DNA methylation and stages of hepatocyte differentiation and global DNA methylation. Using bioinformatics tools and expression data, we propose a stratification model for HB.
Tumors clustered into three groups that presented specific gene expression profiles of the panel of DNA methylation enzymes and hepatocyte differentiation markers. In addition to reinforcing these embryonal tumors' molecular heterogeneity, we propose that a panel of 13 genes can stratify HBs (TET1, TET2, TET3, DNMT1, DNMT3A, UHRF1, ALB, CYP3A4, TDO2, UGT1A1, AFP, HNF4A, and FOXA2). DNA methylation machinery participates in the characterization of HBs, directly reflected in diverse DNA methylation content. This study aimed to investigate B-cell disturbances in patients with acute decompensation (AD) of cirrhosis and assess relationships with prognosis and mortality.
The study included 39 patients with AD of cirrhosis, 29 patients with stable cirrhosis (SC), and 30 healthy controls (CTR). Circulating B-cell subsets and cytokine plasma levels were determined by flow cytometry.

The prevalence and prognosis association of microsatellite instability (MSI) in oesogastric junction and gastric adenocarcinoma (OGC) have been reported with conflicting results.
Patients with OGC from 2010 to 2015 were enrolled in this retrospective multicenter study. MSI was determined by genotyping. MLH1 promoter methylation and BRAFV600E mutation were screened in the MSI tumors.
Among 315 tumors analyzed, 39 (12.4%) were of the MSI phenotype. Compared to MSS tumors, MSI tumors were more frequent in patients >70 years (17% vs 9%, p=0.048) and in gastric antral primary (20% versus 5% in junction tumor and 12% in fundus tumor. Among 29 MSI tumors analyzed, 28 had a loss of MLH1 protein expression and 27 had MLH1 promotor hypermethylation. None had a BRAF V600E mutation. The 4-year cumulative incidence of recurrence for patients with resected tumor was significantly lower in dMMR tumors versus pMMR tumors (17% versus 47%, p=0.01). This study sought to compare the rate of deep surgical site infection (SSI), as measured by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definition, after surgery for a fracture of the hip between patients treated with standard dressings and those treated with incisional negative pressure wound therapy (iNPWT). Secondary objectives included determining the rate of recruitment and willingness to participate in the trial.
The study was a two-arm multicentre randomized controlled feasibility trial that was embedded in the World Hip Trauma Evaluation cohort study. Any patient aged > 65 years having surgery for hip fracture at five recruitment centres in the UK was considered to be eligible. They were randomly allocated to have either a standard dressing or iNPWT after closure of the wound. Debate continues regarding the optimum management of periprosthetic distal femoral fractures (PDFFs). This study aims to determine which operative treatment is associated with the lowest perioperative morbidity and mortality when treating low (Su type II and III) PDFFs comparing lateral locking plate fixation (LLP-ORIF) or distal femoral arthroplasty (DFA).
This was a retrospective cohort study of 60 consecutive unilateral (PDFFs) of Su types II (40/60) and III (20/60) in patients aged ≥ 60 years 33 underwent LLP-ORIF (mean age 81.3 years (SD 10.5), BMI 26.7 (SD 5.5); 29/33 female); and 27 underwent DFA (mean age 78.8 years (SD 8.3); BMI 26.7 (SD 6.6); 19/27 female). The primary outcome measure was reoperation. Secondary outcomes included perioperative complications, calculated blood loss, transfusion requirements, functional mobility status, length of acute hospital stay, discharge destination and mortality. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed. Cox multivariate regression analysis was performed here LLP-ORIF was well performed with augmentation of medial comminution, there was no difference in survival compared to DFA. With novel promising therapies potentially limiting progression of Dupuytren's disease (DD), better patient stratification is needed. We aimed to quantify DD development and progression after seven years in a population-based cohort, and to identify factors predictive of disease development or progression.
All surviving participants from our previous prevalence study were invited to participate in the current prospective cohort study. Participants were examined for presence of DD and Iselin's classification was applied. They were asked to complete comprehensive questionnaires. Disease progression was defined as advancement to a further Iselin stage or surgery. Potential predictive factors were assessed using multivariable regression analyses. Of 763 participants in our original study, 398 were available for further investigation seven years later.
We identified 143/398 (35.9%) participants with DD, of whom 56 (39.2%) were newly diagnosed. Overall, 20/93 (21.5%) previously affected participants had diseapositive family history of DD predict disease progression. This is a retrospective analysis of Scottish Arthroplasty Project data, a nationwide audit which prospectively collects data on all arthroplasty procedures performed in Scotland. The primary outcome was RTKA survival at ten years. The primary explanatory variable was the effect of hospital case volume per year on RTKA survival. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were plotted with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to determine the lifespan of RTKA. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards were used to estimate relative revision risks over time. Hazard ratios (HRs) were reported with 95% CI, and p-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
From 1998 to 2019, 8,301 patients (8,894 knees) underwent RTKA surgery in Scotland (median age at RTKA 70 years (interquartile range (IQR) 63 to 76); median follow-up 6.2 years (IQR 3.0 to 10.2). In all, 4,764 (53.6%) were female, and 78 overall survival of RTKA. Cite this article

Meeting preoperative expectations is known to be of major influence on postoperative satisfaction after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Improved management of expectation, resulting in more realistic expectations can potentially lead to higher postoperative satisfaction. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of an additional preoperative education module, addressing realistic expectations for long-term functional recovery, on postoperative satisfaction and expectation fulfilment.
In total, 204 primary TKA patients with osteoarthritis were enrolled in this randomized controlled trial (RCT). Patients were allocated to either usual preoperative education (control group) or usual education plus an additional module on realistic expectations (intervention group). Primary outcome was being very satisfied (numerical rating scale for satisfaction ≥ 8) with the treatment result at 12 months' follow-up. Other outcomes were change in preoperative expectations and postoperative expectation fulfilment.

BACKGROUND Functional capacity assessment is important in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It can be performed by the six-minute walk test (6MWT) on a 30-ms track. However, such space is not always available in clinical settings. OBJECTIVES To compare the performance between the 6MWT on a 30- (6MWT30) and 20-meter (6MWT20) track; to evaluate the validity and reliability of the 6MWT30 and the 6MWT20; and to determine for which patients track length has the greatest impact on performance. METHODS Patients with COPD randomly performed two 6MWT30 and two 6MWT20 on two different days and were also assessed using the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) scale. RESULTS Thirty patients (23 men; mean ± standard deviation FEV1%pred 45.6 ± 12.1) participated in the study. They walked a greater distance on the 6MWT30 than on the 6MWT20 [mean difference 22.1 m (95 %CI 12, 32 m)]. The longer the 6MWT30 distance, the greater the difference between the 2 tests (r = 0.51; p = 0.004). The 6MWT20 showed high reliability [ICC 0.96 (95 %CI 0.77-0.99)] and the results were associated with the distance walked on the 6MWT30 (r = 0.86), CAT (r = -0.53), and mMRC (r = -0.62). Patients who walked ≥430 m in the 6MWT30 presented a difference between the tests greater than those who walked less then 430 m (34.5 ± 23.3 m vs. 12.6 ± 24.1 m; respectively; p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Performance was higher on the 6MWT30, with the difference increasing as performance improved. Therefore, the 6MWT20 is valid and reliable to evaluate functional capacity but should not be considered interchangeable with the 6MWT30, especially for the less disabled patients with COPD. We validated the expression of 10 miRNAs in 75 NSCLC patients and 40 controls using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR). miRNA expression was correlated with survival and therapeutic response. RESULTS We identified 16 differentially expressed miRNAs in the serum of NSCLC patients as compared to controls. We observed significant downregulation of miR-15a-5p, miR-320a, miR-25-3p, miR-192-5p, let-7d-5p, let-7e-5p, miR-148a-3p, and miR-92a-3p in the serum of NSCLC patients. The expression of miR-375 and miR-10b-5p was significantly downregulated in lung squamous cell carcinoma patients than controls.
BACKGROUND Functional capacity assessment is important in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It can be performed by the six-minute walk test (6MWT) on a 30-ms track. However, such space is not always available in clinical settings. OBJECTIVES To compare the performance between the 6MWT on a 30- (6MWT30) and 20-meter (6MWT20) track; to evaluate the validity and reliability of the 6MWT30 and the 6MWT20; and to determine for which patients track length has the greatest impact on performance. Methods Constructivist grounded theory (GT) methods were used to collect data using focus groups and individual interviews with all staff (nursing, medical, allied health, cleaning, and support staff) working in the area. Data were analyzed using constant comparative analysis, and data collection continued until theoretical saturation was achieved. Results The GT constructed in this study is being a work family, which includes three core categories finding attachment, becoming a work family, and having an identity. Discussion This study found that regardless of profession or discipline, all staff experience similar feelings about their work, and can develop and enhance their resilience by belonging to a "work family." Being socially connected to the work family was recognized as the most supportive intervention, and was identified as being of greater value than the traditional one-on-one support that is currently encouraged.
Contemporary living conditions present opportunities that promote obesity. In addition, traditional nutritional intervention have been considered inefficient, and there is a demand for the development and evaluation of strategies not based on the traditional paradigm of diets.
The aim of this study is to describe the Food and Nutrition Education Program with Sensory and Cognitive Exercises (PESC), which seeks to promote consciousness of eating experience and body signals appreciation to adult women and thus to make them less vulnerable to food consumption stimuli.
This protocol outlines a randomized study that will include 60 adult women. PESC is based on the sensory influence for eating behavior and on the Triple-Aspect Monism theory of consciousness. It is composed of exercises that explore sensory, cognitive and emotional aspects of food experience in order to promote it into a conscious process. The program consists of four weekly workshops that explore themes related to the current obesogenic environment problematic. The intervention group (
=30) will be evaluated at the beginning of the first workshop and after the last one. The control group (
=30) will not participate on the workshops and will be evaluated twice, with a one-month interval.
This study will contribute substantially to the development of nutritional interventions based on sensory aspects and consciousness of food experience. Therefore, PESC is considered an innovative approach with regard to improving individuals' eating behavior.

To support teachers in adapting instruction to these heterogeneous classrooms, we have developed learning progress assessment (LPA) and reading instructional materials, the Reading Sportsman (RS) in line with the theoretical framework of data-based decision-making, which has led to beneficial effects in several studies. However, data from these studies have not been analyzed to examine effects for low-performing readers. Data within and across six quasi-experimental studies conducted by our team in Grades 2 to 4 were reanalyzed to examine the effects of LPA on students whose reading fluency scores were at or below the 25th percentile (n = 1,346 students from 264 classes). In each study, students had been assigned to a control group (with business-as-usual instruction), an LPA group only, or an LPA-RS group (i.e., with teachers provided with LPA and the RS). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/4egi-1.html Separate multilevel regression results were integrated by means of meta-analytical methods to investigate the consistency of results. Five walking gait trials and three different knee implant models for each subject were used as partial inputs for the model to predict knee biomechanics for unicompartmental, bicruciate retaining, and total knee arthroplastimplant designs, and effect of surgical techniques on knee biomechanics following arthroplasty.

The interest in vertical crown preparation is growing and several variations are presented in the dental literature but limited clinical outcome data exists for teeth prepared for a vertical finish line.
To audit clinical outcomes for 73 teeth after vertical preparation for knife-edge zirconia crowns.
Seventy-three teeth had knife-edge zirconia crowns placed after vertical finish line preparation. The outcomes for these teeth were analysed from a retrospective audit of clinical records.
The mean follow-up time was 21 months (SD 10 months; range 6-40). One tooth had to be extracted due to fracture at cervical level. The interest in vertical crown preparation is growing and several variations are presented in the dental literature but limited clinical outcome data exists for teeth prepared for a vertical finish line. To audit clinical outcomes for 73 teeth after vertical preparation for knife-edge zirconia crowns. Seventy-three teeth had knife-edge zirconia crowns placed after vertical finish line preparation. The outcomes for these teeth were analysed from a retrospective audit of clinical records. The mean follow-up time was 21 months (SD 10 months; range 6-40). One tooth had to be extracted due to fracture at cervical level. This research aimed to examine health-care workers' grief counseling for bereaved families of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) victims in China. Our research may provide a new opportunity to stimulate development of grief counseling in China.
A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 724 health-care workers selected by convenience sampling from 7 hospitals in Wuhan. Data collection tools included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the skills of grief counseling scale (SGCS), and the attitudes of grief counseling scale (AGCS).
The average SGCS score was 18.96 ± 4.66, whose influencing factors consisted of sense of responsibility, frequency of contact with bereaved families, and relevant training (P < 0.05). The average AGCS score was 33.36 ± 8.70, whose influencing factors consisted of other grief counseling skills, communication skills, education background, and relevant training (P < 0.05).
The skills and attitudes toward grief counseling among health-care workers combating COVID-19 were at a lower level in Wuhan, China, indicating the need to build a comprehensive grief counseling system, establish a standardized training course, and strengthen the popularization of grief counseling services to the public.

Epidemiological and clinical information of 1738 diagnosed patients during February 7-26, 2020 in Wuhan Dongxihu Fangcang Hospital were analyzed. A total of 709 patients were followed up on symptom, mental health, isolation site, and medication after discharge.

We systematically searched Medline, Embase, PAIS Index for public policy, Scopus and Web of Science databases to identify eligible studies. Key study characteristics, including research design, type of policy, time span of policy before impact assessment, child age at outcome assessment and types of outcomes assessed, were abstracted in duplicate.

Studies were eligible for inclusion if they aimed to assess the impact of population-level nutrition-specific policies on undernutrition among children under 10 years of age.
Of the 5646 abstracts screened, eighty-three studies were included. A range of policies to address child undernutrition were evaluated; the majority were related to micronutrient fortification. Most studies were observational, reported on mandatory regional or sub-national polices, were conducted in high-income countries and evaluated policies within 1 year of implementation. A narrow set of health outcomes were evaluated, most commonly iodine deficiency disorders and neural tube defects.
Nutrition policies were commonly associated with improved child nutritional status and health. However, this evidence is primarily based on limited settings and on a limited number of outcomes. Further research is needed to assess the longer-term impact of a broader range of nutrition policies on child health, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

RESULTS The T scores of none of the assessed sleep domains differed across the estimated glomerular filtration rate terciles (all P >0.05). The scores from the PAC-SYM abdominal and stool subscales correlated with all assessed sleep quality domains. Hybrid metal-organic compounds as relatively new and prosperous magnetoelectric multiferroics provide opportunities to improve the polarization, magnetization and magneto-electric coupling at the same time, which usually have some limitations in the common type-I and type-II multiferroics. In this work we investigate the crystal of guanidinium copper (II) formate [C(NH2)3]Cu(HCOO)3 and give novel insights concerning the structure, magnetic, electric and magneto-electric behaviour of this interesting material. Detailed analysis of crystal structure at 100 K is given. Magnetization points to the copper (II) formate spin-chain phase that becomes ordered below 4.6 K into the canted antiferromagnetic (AFM) state, as a result of super-exchange interaction over different formate bridges. The performed ab-initio colinear density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirm the AFM-like ground state as a first approximation and explain the coupling of spin-chains into the AFM ordered lattice. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/mln-4924.html In versatile measurements of magnetization of a crystal, including transverse component besides the longitudinal one, very large anisotropy is found that might originate from canting of the coordination octahedra around copper (II) in cooperation with the canted AFM order. Complete blood count (CBC) analysis was utilized for detection of significant responses to treatments applied. Our objectives were as follows (a) to analyze changes in CBC due to fescue toxicity, maternal resistance level, and RPN in growing offspring; and (b) to assess the effects of maternal resistance level when consuming endophyte-infected tall fescue seeds in addition to RPN in offspring performance. Body weight, average daily gain, or health status were not improved by RPN or the genetic test to detect fescue toxicity resistance. Typical signs of alkaloids intoxication and heat stress were noticed in offspring. Particularly, rectal temperature was greater for susceptible control heifers. Results showed that susceptible control offspring presented signs of anemia denoted by low mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular volume (MCV). High levels of white blood cells (WBC) and basophils in combination to low neutrophils to lymphocytes ratio were the signs of infection or inflammation detected in the CBC analysis, especially in tolerant niacin steers. This study aimed to identify possible biomarkers for tuberculosis by applying NGS techniques to obtain global miRNA expression profiles from 22 blood samples of infected patients with tuberculosis (n = 9), their respective healthy physicians (n = 6) and external healthy individuals as controls (n = 7). Samples were run through a pipeline consisting of differential expression, target genes, gene set enrichment and miRNA-gene network analyses. We observed 153 altered miRNAs, among which only three DEmiRNAs (hsa-let-7g-5p, hsa-miR-486-3p and hsa-miR-4732-5p) were found between the investigated patients and their respective physicians. These DEmiRNAs are suggested to play an important role in granuloma regulation and their immune physiopathology. Our results indicate that miRNAs may be involved in immune modulation by regulating gene expression in cells of the immune system. The blends were extruded at 230 °C or 197 °C and a similar compatibilizing behavior was observed for the different compatibilizers. The compatibilizer C1 containing 80 wt% of AC and 14 wt% of OLA resulted effective in compatibilization and it was easily obtained by reactive extrusion. Considering these results, different PLAX/pAC(100-X) compounds containing C1 as the compatibilizer were prepared by extrusion at 197 °C and tested in terms of their tensile and impact properties. Reference materials were the uncompatibilized corresponding blend (PLAX/pAC(100-X)) and the blend of PLA, at the same wt%, with C1. Significant increase in Young's modulus and tensile strength were observed in the compatibilized blends, in dependence of their morphologic features, suggesting the achievement of an improved interfacial adhesion thanks to the occurred compatibilization.

A meta-analysis of reports primarily from Western countries showed no association between eradication and reflux esophagitis development. The risk of reflux esophagitis may differ among different populations based on virulence factors and acid secretion ability. We evaluated the prevalence rates of reflux esophagitis in -positive Japanese subjects and assessed risk factors for reflux esophagitis after eradication. Among 148 -positive subjects who underwent eradication from August 2015 to December 2019, we evaluated the prevalence of reflux esophagitis on endoscopy at 12 months after eradication success and the severity of reflux-related symptoms by the F-scale questionnaire at 2 months after treatment and 12 months after eradication success. The prevalence of reflux esophagitis in -positive patients at entry was 2.0% (3/148). At 12 months after eradication success, the prevalence was 10.8% (16/148) ( < 0.01). We sought to determine whether donor HSCs could reach the fetal circulation after simple intra-amniotic delivery in a syngeneic rat model of transamniotic stem cell therapy (TRASCET).
Pregnant Lewis rat dams underwent volume-matched intra-amniotic injections in all fetuses (n=90) on gestational day 17 (E17; term=E21-22) of a suspension of commercially available syngeneic Lewis rat HSCs labeled with luciferase (n=37 fetuses) or an acellular suspension of recombinant luciferase (n=53). HSC phenotype was confirmed by flow cytometry. Fetuses were euthanized at term for screening of luciferase activity at select anatomical sites. Statistical comparisons were by Fisher's exact test.
Among survivors (47/90; 52.2%), donor HSCs were identified selectively in the placenta (p=0.003), umbilical cord (p<0.001), bone marrow (p<0.001), thymus (p=0.009), bowel (p=0.003), kidney (p=0.022), and skin (p<0.001) when compared with acellular luciferase controls.

Ultrasound-guided (US) transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is commonly utilized as part of a multi-modal approach for postoperative pain management. This study seeks to determine whether laparoscopic-guided TAP blocks are as effective as US-guided TAP blocks among pediatric patients.
In this prospective, randomized controlled trial, pediatric patients undergoing laparoscopic procedures were randomly assigned to one of two treatment arms US-guided TAP block (US-arm) or laparoscopic-guided TAP block (LAP-arm). Primary outcome was PACU pain scores. Secondary outcomes included PACU opioid consumption, block completion time and block accuracy.
Twenty-five patients were enrolled in each arm. In the LAP-arm, 59% of blocks were in the transversus abdominis plane compared to 74% of TAP blocks in the US-arm (p=0.18). Blocks were completed faster in the LAP-arm (2.1±1.9vs. 7.9±3.4min, p<0.001). The average highest PACU pain score was 3.4±3.1 for the LAP-arm and 4.3±3.8 for the US-arm (p=0.37). Overall PACU pain scores and opioid consumption were similar between the groups (1.2±1.3vs. 1.6±1.6, p=0.24; 2.2±5.8vs. 0.9±1.4MME, p=0.26).

Probably the interest in this topic has arisen with regard to the inclusion in the DSM-IV of the new category "Religious or Spiritual Problem" (Code V62.89). Until then, religious or spiritual issues had been viewed in the clinical practice as symptoms of some mental illnesses like, for example, the delusions with religious content typical of schizophrenics. But with the fourth edition of the aforementioned manual, there began to be an interest in the study of spirituality as it expresses a fundamental aspect of personality. In this vein, various models of integration of spirituality and psychotherapy have been formulated. Our intention is to study the problem of incommensurability as one of the epistemological and methodological problems that supposes a project of this type. We present the writings of the Desert Fathers as an explanatory model that guarantees an epistemologically legitimate integration of spiritual traditions with psychotherapeutic practice.

In wave membrane blood pumps, blood propulsion arises from the wave propagation along an oscillating immersed membrane, which generates small pockets of fluid that are pushed towards the outlet against an adverse pressure gradient. We studied the Fluid-Structure Interaction between the oscillating membrane and the blood flow via three-dimensional simulations using the Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM), an unfitted numerical technique that avoids remeshing by using a fluid fixed mesh. Our three-dimensional numerical simulations in a realistic pump geometry highlighted, for the first time in this field of application, that XFEM is a reliable strategy to handle complex industrial problems. Moreover, they showed the role of the membrane deformation in promoting a blood flow towards the outlet despite an adverse pressure gradient. We also simulated the pump system at different pressure conditions and we validated the numerical results against in-vitro experimental data.Diabetes is a serious disease whose patients often require long-term care. Blood glucose and intermediate glycation product of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) are, at best, surrogate biomarkers of disease progression. There is indication that advanced glycation end products (AGEs) better reflect diabetic risks. In this study, we explored the use of red blood cells (RBCs) and lysed hemoglobin (Hb) autofluorescence (AF) as potential biomarkers of diabetic complication. AF spectra measured under 370 nm excitation reveals that both RBC and Hb fluorescence in the 420 to 600 nm region. At early time points following diabetic induction in rats, AF increase in lysed Hb is more dramatic compared to that of RBCs. Moreover, we found significance variance of Hb autofluorescence despite relatively constant HbA1c levels. Furthermore, we found that although a correlation exists between AGE autofluorescence and HbA1c levels, the lack of complete correspondence suggests that the rate of AGE production differs significantly among different rats. Our results suggest that with additional development, both RBC and Hb autofluorescence from lysed RBCs may be used act long-term glycemic markers for diabetic complications in patients.Natural protopanaxadiol ginsenosides exhibit low absorption in the human intestine. A randomized, open-label, 2-treatment, 2×2 crossover study was conducted. Acute and chronic hypertension may have different pathophysiological mechanisms in the retina. Here, we compared the retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL)/ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GC-IPL) thickness ratios of patients with 'relieved' severe hypertensive retinopathy (relieved HTNR) and chronic hypertension without retinopathy (chronic HTN) to those of normal controls.
We performed cross-sectional study. The eyes were divided into the following groups normal controls (Group A, age ≥50years; Group D, age <50years); chronic HTN (Group B, <10years of HTN; TNHT; Group C, ≥10years of HTN); and relieved HTNR (previously diagnosed with grade IV HTNR and relieved retinopathy for >1year; Group E), and the RNFL/GC-IPL thickness ratio was compared among Groups A-C and between Groups D and E.
A total of 379 eyes were included in this study. Groups A-E consisted of 145, 59, 63, 60 and 52 eyes, respectively. The RNFL/GC-IPL thickness ratios were 1.161±0.093, 1.158±0.082 and 1.162±0.089 in groups A-C, respectively, and did not showed a statistically difference (p=0.966). The RNFL/GC-IPL thickness ratio of groups D and E were 1.169±0.080 and 1.221±0.080, respectively, and showed a statistically difference (p=0.001).
