  • This study present real-time measurements of the chemical composition and particle number size distributions (PNSD) of submicron particulate matter (PM1) in winter at a coastal industrial park in the Yangtze River Delta region of China. Positive matrix factorization (PMF) analysis identified three PNSD factors and three organic aerosol (OA) factors. In this study, there were five irrigation treatments no irrigation (NI), and irrigation of the top (0-30 cm) (TI), middle (30-60 cm) (MI), bottom (60-90 cm) (BI), and all (0-90 cm) (AI) soil layers. This assay involves confining the RNA-triggered Cas13a catalysis system in cell-like-sized reactors to enhance local concentrations of target and reporter simultaneously, via droplet microfluidics. It achieves >10 000-fold enhancement in sensitivity when compared to the bulk Cas13a assay and enables absolute digital single-molecule RNA quantitation. We experimentally demonstrate its broad applicability for precisely counting microRNAs, 16S rRNAs, and SARS-CoV-2 RNA from synthetic sequences to clinical samples with excellent accuracy.     Anal fistulae have a significant impact on the quality of life of patients with Crohn's disease (CD). In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to determine whether biological agents were effective in treating anal fistulae in patients with CD.

    Fifty-three patients diagnosed with CD were retrospectively enrolled. Their data regarding symptoms, treatments, and disease progression from January 2007 to December 2016 were reviewed from the medical records. Fifteen (28%) patients with CD were complicated by anal fistulae.

    The male-to-female ratio was 132, and the mean age at onset was 11 years and 6 months. Among the 15 patients, 14 (93%) had anal fistulae as an initial symptom. Almost all patients were treated by providing elemental diet, 5-aminosalicylic acid, and steroids as induction therapy. Biological agents were used in 8 patients (53.3%), and fistula closure was confirmed in all of them. Among the 7 patients not treated with biological agents, 1 (14.3%) had a recurrent anal fistula, while another had incomplete fistula closure. Regarding surgical management, 2 patients were treated using the seton method, and no patients required a colostomy.

    Treatment with biological agents is highly effective concerning the closure of anal fistulae in patients with CD, and reducing pain may improve their quality of life.

    To assess anxiety, stress level, and perception of safety during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in health care workers (HCWs) of one of Germany's largest urology university clinics.

    A cross-sectional study among urological HCWs was performed. HCWs were surveyed for anxiety about the pandemic, stress level and current workload, fear of coronavirus infection, current perception of safety at work, and attitude towards protective equipment and tests for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

    Sixty-three HCWs filled in the questionnaire. Overall anxiety of infection with CO-VID-19 is at a median of 4.7 with no statistically significant difference between nurses and physicians (p = 0.0749). Safety at work reaches a median of 6 out of 10. In fact, the highest fear in 56.7% (31/63) of the personnel is to get infected by a colleague tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 despite wearing surgical face masks. A proportion of 55.7 and 74.6% highly favor swabs for SARS-CoV-2 on a reglling for increased education and psychological support.

  • A 64-year-old woman with metastatic papillary thyroid cancer underwent a total thyroidectomy followed by 2 courses of 131I therapy. The posttherapeutic whole-body scan after the second dose of 131I therapy showed multifocal bone metastasis. In addition, there is focal abnormal intense radiotracer uptake at the right inguinal region. SPECT/CT revealed that this abnormal focal radioactivity was from a superficial skin lesion. Further physical examination revealed a raised, approximately 1-cm, irregular grayish-brown lesion on the right groin skin. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of basal cell papilloma (seborrheic keratosis).

    The objective of this study was to determine the optimal time for 124I PET/CT imaging to maximize the detection of locoregional and/or distant metastases of differentiated thyroid cancer.

    Differentiated thyroid cancer patients suspected of having metastatic disease were prepared with low-iodine diet and appropriate thyroid-stimulating hormone stimulation. 124I PET and low-dose localization CT were performed over 4 days after oral administration of 31.5 or 62.9 MBq (0.85 or 1.7 mCi) of 124I. Each scan was independently reviewed by 2 nuclear medicine physicians. All foci of activity were categorized, and the visual intensity of uptake was scored by a semiquantitative 3-point grading system (1 mild uptake, 2 moderate uptake, 3 intense uptake). Lesion volumes were determined on the CT image or on the PET images. Background (bkg) was also measured for each lesion and on each individual PET image. For each lesion, the mean activity concentration rate per unit administered activity (ACRmean/AA) and lesion-to-bkgnegative 124I uptake in the region of interest, then a 72- or 96-h scan may be valuable. If lung metastases are suspected, then one should consider additional imaging at 72 or 96 h.
    CXC chemokine receptor type 4 as a G-protein-coupled receptor has been confirmed to be highly expressed in functional adrenocortical adenomas. 68Ga-pentixafor, a CXC chemokine receptor type 4-specific ligand, has been reported as a promising tracer to evaluate functional nature of adrenal adenomas. We report intense 68Ga-pentixafor activity of cortisol-producing adrenal adenomas in 2 patients with adrenocorticotropic hormone-independent Cushing syndrome.

The objective of this study was to determine the optimal time for 124I PET/CT imaging to maximize the detection of locoregional and/or distant metastases of differentiated thyroid cancer. A cross-sectional study was conducted from April 23 to May 22, 2020, to solicit responses from current E-cig users in the UAE. Data were collected about sociodemographic profile, tobacco cigarette smoking, vaping preferences, reasons for use, and withdrawal symptoms during fasting in Ramadan. A convenience sample of 591 adult E-cig users were initially recruited, of whom 392 participants with complete responses were included in our analysis. The majority of participants were males (n = 275, 70.2%) and around 28.6% (n = 112) were dual users. Vape tank/Box-mod was the most used type of E-cig (50.3%). Most of the participants (n = 317; 80.9%) believed that E-cigs are less harmful than tobacco cigarettes. During fasting time, around 46.2% (n = 181) of E-cig users have experienced various physical symptoms, while 51.0% (n = 200) of users have experienced various psychological symptoms. E-cig use is gaining popularity within the UAE after the recent legalization as these devices are commonly advertised and claimed by manufacturers to aid smoking cessation. The effectiveness of E-cig in aiding smoking cessation should be investigated with a higher level of evidence, especially in a new context of usage as the UAE, considering various types of devices, hundreds of E-liquid brands, and the influence of concurrent poly-tobacco use.

    Persons with dementia are at risk of malnutrition, evidenced by low dietary intake, which has consequences for nutritional status, activity of daily living and disease progression. The effects of oral nutrition supplements (ONS) on nutritional intake, nutritional status, and cognitive and physical outcomes in older persons with dementia were evaluated.

    PubMed, Medline, Embase, CINAHL and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched in December 2017, and this was repeated in May 2019. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Analysis (PRISMA) checklist was used. Papers were considered if they presented experimental clinical trials using oral nutritional supplements to persons diagnosed with dementia, including Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment, and conducted in hospitals, nursing homes or homes.

    We included ten articles reporting nine clinical trials. A total of 407 persons with dementia were included, of whom 228 used ONS for 7 to 180 days. Nutritional intake improved by 201 to 600kcal/day. Energy intake from ordinary foods was not affected, thus ONS improved the persons daily intake of energy and protein. Body weight, muscle mass, and nutritional biomarkers in blood improved in the intervention groups compared with the control groups. No effects on cognition or physical outcomes were observed.

    Information on 110 hospitalised patients with confirmed Covid-19 was retrospectively collected and analysed. The demographic data such as age, gender, comorbid conditions such as diabetes mellitus, the need for dialysis and laboratory data such as urine for albumin, glucose, RBC and WBC, and serum creatinine were collected. The diagnosis of AKI was based on the KDIGO criteria. The outcomes studied were development of AKI and hospital mortality.

    Urine abnormalities were seen in 71% of the patients. Proteinuria in 58.2%, haematuria in 17.3%, pyuria in 8.2% of patients and concurrent proteinuria and haematuria was seen in 13.6% of patients. AKI was seen in 28.2% of patients and hospital mortality was 24.5%. AKI was strongly associated with mortality. Proteinuria and haematuria were good predictors of development of AKI, more strongly when they occurred concurrently (p<0.01).

    N6-Methyladenosine (m6A) is the most common RNA modification in eukaryotic mRNAs and growing evidence suggests that m6A modification and its regulators play crucial roles in human cancers. However, the role of m6A regulators and their molecular mechanisms in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains largely unclear.

    We therefore assessed m6A regulatory genes alterations and their mRNAs expression in HNSCC using openly available data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Further, we have validated the expression level of m6A regulatory gene in HNSCC tissue samples using real-time PCR. In addition, we also analyzed the protein interaction network, and functional enrichment of m6A regulatory genes.

    Analysis of TCGA data revealed that m6A regulatory genes were altered in many HNSCC patients. Importantly, we found for the first time that m6A "writer" KIAA1429 (VIRMA) was frequently amplified and mutated (8 %), which contributes to the overexpression of KIAA1429 mRNA, and the overexpression of KIAA1429 could be remarkably related to cancer stages, tumor grade, and nodal metastasis (P < 0.05). In addition, the overexpression of KIAA1429 was successfully validated using HNSCC tissue samples.

We therefore assessed m6A regulatory genes alterations and their mRNAs expression in HNSCC using openly available data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Further, we have validated the expression level of m6A regulatory gene in HNSCC tissue samples using real-time PCR. Porcine Liver was decellularized using 1% Triton X-100. Solubilized liver ECM was immobilized on CTS fibers surface through cross linking of ECM and CTS with 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) and N-Hydroxysuccinimide (NHS). Then the scaffold was characterized by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy in attenuated total reflection mode (ATR-FTIR), X-photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and water contact angle measurement. The efficacy of modified scaffolds to maintain C3A hepatocytes adhesion, proliferation, bioactivity and functionality in vitro was detected. FTIR spectra and XPS demonstrated the presence of ECM coating on CTS fabric surface. Covalently attached coating significantly improved the binding efficiency between ECM and CTS fabrics, in comparison to the coating by physical absorption. Furthermore, C3A hepatocytes cultured on coated scaffolds showed enhanced cell bioactivity and liver-specific function, such as albumin secretion and urea synthesis, compared with those cultured on untreated scaffolds(p  less then  0.05). As a promising hepatocyte culture carrier, the ECM coated CTS fabrics could be applied in the biological artificial liver reactor.

  • The aim of the study is to evaluate the proximal contact tightness (PCT) between single-tooth implant-supported prosthesis (ISP) and the adjacent natural teeth with and without the intervention of the Essix retainer at the end of 1 year.

    The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of obliterated osteomeatal complex (OMC) due to the presence of anatomic variants.

    Retrospective Study.

    In this retrospective study, a total of 71 patients, 34 males and 37 females, aged 35-65 years were included in the study. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of patients were assessed to identify the status of the OMC in the presence of anatomic variants and their incidence was recorded. The radiological assessment of the anatomical variants was made by viewing the coronal sections of the scans. The variants observed were deviated nasal septum, uncinate process), agger nasi, Haller cells, middle turbinate variants, enlarged bulla, accessory ostium, and maxillary sinus abnormalities). Ostium patency was evaluated in the coronal section of each sinus and classified as "patent" or "obstructed." The most common variants observed were then correlated with the patency of the ostium.

The radiological assessment of the anatomical variants was made by viewing the coronal sections of the scans. The variants observed were deviated nasal septum, uncinate process), agger nasi, Haller cells, middle turbinate variants, enlarged bulla, accessory ostium, and maxillary sinus abnormalities).   • Soil ecosystems harbor diverse microorganisms and yet remain only partially characterized as neither single-cell sequencing nor whole-community sequencing offers a complete picture of these complex communities. Thus, the genetic and metabolic potential of this "uncultivated majority" remains underexplored. Additionally, sorted-MAGs expanded the rare biosphere not captured through MAGs from bulk sequences, exemplified through phylogenetic and functional analyses of members of the phylum ded microbial diversity from forest soil and compare it to soil bulk metagenomics. Comparative metabolic network analysis derived from the currently available 53 annotated R. solanacearum strains, including a recently reported strain (F1C1), representing the four phylotypes, confirmed the lack of key genes coding for phosphofructokinase (pfk-1) and phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (gnd) enzymes that are relevant for glycolysis and OxPPP, respectively. Intentional replantation (IR) was performed. However, the symptoms returned at 10 months of follow-up, and a sinus tract was detected on the buccal gingiva of tooth #17. The patient refused extraction of the tooth and tooth was scheduled for non-surgical retreatment. Root canal retreatment was initiated with the removal of the previous root filling material while leaving the retrograde filling in situ. After 1 month of intracanal medication, the tooth became asymptomatic with complete healing of the sinus tract and the root canal filling was completed. Clinical and radiographic examination at 1 year follow-up revealed endodontic success with complete resolution of periapical radiolucency. This case report shows that non-surgical retreatment could be a viable alternative for failed IR. Results A significant difference in the mean values of the estimated difference in dentine thickness was observed (P less then 0.05). There was no significant difference between molars and premolars as they exhibited a similar range in the difference of the RDT. Conclusion It is challenging to find a stable relationship between RRDT and ARDT. Methods Digital radiographs were acquired prior to periapical lesion simulation and after each one of four defects enlargement. Original images were adjusted in 4 brightness and contrast combinations. Five observers evaluated the images according to the presence of periapical lesion on a 5-point scale. In a second moment, the observers ordinated the images subjectively, according to quality, from the best to the worst to detect the bone defect. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was calculated for the diagnostic values and compared by two-way ANOVA. The significance level was set at 5% (P0.05). The overall results showed low values of area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve and sensitivity of the periapical radiography in the detection of periapical lesions of sizes from 1 to 3, which rose substantially in size 4. For image quality, combinations with the lowest brightness and highest contrast were preferred by the observers in 58% of the cases. Conclusion Brightness and contrast adjustments do not influence the detection of simulated periapical lesions in digital intraoral radiography. Lower brightness and higher contrast images were preferred for this diagnostic task. Original images were adjusted in 4 brightness and contrast combinations. Five observers evaluated the images according to the presence of periapical lesion on a 5-point scale. In a second moment, the observers ordinated the images subjectively, according to quality, from the best to the worst to detect the bone defect. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was calculated for the diagnostic values and compared by two-way ANOVA. The significance level was set at 5% (P0.05). The overall results showed low values of area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve and sensitivity of the periapical radiography in the detection of periapical lesions of sizes from 1 to 3, which rose substantially in size 4. For image quality, combinations with the lowest brightness and highest contrast were preferred by the observers in 58% of the cases. Conclusion Brightness and contrast adjustments do not influence the detection of simulated periapical lesions in digital intraoral radiography. Lower brightness and higher contrast images were preferred for this diagnostic task. Methods Eighty-two human extracted premolars were decoronated and divided into 7 groups. Roots were longitudinally split into two halves. The micro-hardness was measured for one half before and after irrigation protocols. The groups were; G1 MTAD without laser-activation, G2 MTAD with laser-activation, G3 sodium-hypochlorite (SH) with laser-activation, G4 SH then EDTA with laser-activation, G5 SH then MTAD with laser-activation, G6 SH without laser-activation. G7 distilled water (control). In the two-irrigants groups G4 and G5), samples were irrigated first with SH then with MTAD or EDTA irrigants, which were activated by the laser. The difference between the before- and after-irrigation micro-hardness was calculated to obtain the micro-hardness difference.
