Marfan syndrome, G6PD deficiency, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and Castleman disease are four distinctive, thoroughly investigated entities whose coincidence was never reported. However, occurrence in pairs was sporadically mentioned in literature.
We report a 15-year-old Caucasian G6PD deficient Marfan male patient, who presented with tonic-clonic seizures, fever, a hemolytic episode, and general symptoms. After the discovery of hepatosplenomegaly, malar rash, and painless lymphadenopathy, further testing diagnosed a multifocal Castleman disease of the hyaline vascular subtype and systemic lupus erythematosus with lupus nephritis that got 35 points on the 2019 EULAR/ACR criteria. G6PD deficiency, SLE & Castleman disease, and seizures were handled medically with eventual improvement in the patient's condition.
It is extremely rare to discover the gathering of these four diseases in the same patient. Five alternative outcome definitions gave similar overall results. The risk of failure or relapse (FoR) may be higher in the short regimen than in the long regimen, highlighting the importance of how loss to follow-up and other censoring is accounted for in analyses. The outcome of time to FoR should be considered as a primary outcome for future drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB treatment trials, provided sensitivity analyses exploring the impact of departures from independent censoring are also included.
Polygenic scores are a strategy to aggregate the small, additive effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms across the genome. With phenotypes like Alzheimer's disease, which have a strong and well-established genomic locus (APOE), the cumulative effect of genetic variants outside of this area has not been well established in a population-representative sample.
Here we examine the association between polygenic scores for Alzheimer's disease both with and without the APOE region (chr19 45,384,477 to 45,432,606, build 37/hg 19) at different P value thresholds and dementia. We also investigate the addition of APOE-ε4 carrier status and its effect on the polygenic score-dementia association in the Health and Retirement Study using generalized linear models accounting for repeated measures by individual and use a binomial distribution, logit link, and unstructured correlation structure.
In a large sample of European ancestry participants of the Health and Retirement Study (n = 9872) with an average of 5.2 (sommend using a moderately conservative P value threshold (e.g. 0.01) when creating polygenic scores for Alzheimer's disease on dementia. These recommendations may help elucidate relationships between polygenic scores and regions of strong significance for phenotypes similar to Alzheimer's disease.
There are reports that acrochordon (skin tag), the most common fibroepithelial tumor of the skin, may be associated with metabolic syndrome components, particularly insulin metabolism disorders. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no study examining its association with insulin resistance and tissue levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) and insulin-like growth factor 2 receptor (IGF-2R).
Thirty patients with at least one acrochordon in their body who had no known history of diabetes mellitus and a control group comprised 30 individuals who had no acrochordon or no known history of diabetes mellitus were included. The tissue expression of IGF-1R and IGF-2R were investigated via immunohistochemical assessment in both groups.
In the group with acrochordon, IGF-1R and IGF-2R expression was found to be significantly higher compared to the control group (p < 0,01). Using logistic regression analysis, an increase in serum insulin, serum IGF-1 and HOMA-IR levels was found to be associated with the expression levels of IGF-1R and IGF-2R.
These findings support the view that insulin metabolism disorders should be evaluated in patients with acrochordon. Our study indicates that IGF receptors may have an effect on acrochordon pathogenesis and that acrochordon etiology and related conditions can be clarified by detection of parameters that influence receptor levels.

Longer engagement in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment can lead to better health outcomes and reductions in overall healthcare costs. The level of SMARCD3 was detected by immunohistochemistry in breast cancer patient samples, and expression levels ofSMARCD1,SMARCD2, andSMARCD3were investigated using publicly available datasets from large cohorts of breast cancer patients. Using molecular biology and microscopy, we interrogated the cellular consequences of lowerSMARCD3expression.
Lower proliferation rates were observed in SMARCD3-depleted cells, which reflects a failure of the cell cycle progression and an increase in endoreplication. In the absence of SMARCD3, p21 accumulates in cells, but does not halt the cell cycle, and DNA damage accumulates and remains unrepaired.
Taken together, our data begin to explain why ER+ breast cancer patients with low-SMARCD3 expressing tumors exhibit reduced survival rates compared to patients expressing normal or higher levels of SMARCD3. SMARCD3 might act as a tumor suppressor through regulation of cell cycle checkpoints and could be a reliable and specific breast cancer prognostic biomarker.

Many surgeons believe that the distance from the external opening to the anal verge (DEOAV) predicts the complexity of a cryptoglandular fistulas-in-ano and, therefore, predicts the need for additional imaging. However, there is no evidence to support this. The primary aim of this study was to determine if DEOAV can predict the complexity of a fistula. Secondary aims were clinical outcome and identification of those patients that might not benefit from preoperative imaging.
All patients having surgery for cryptoglandular fistula-in-ano between January 2014 and December 2016 were evaluated. Preoperative imaging was used to classify fistulas as simple or complex. The DEAOV was measured preoperatively and was divided into categories ≤ 1cm, 1-2cm, or > 2cm. The relationship between the DEOAV and complexity of the fistula was investigated. Clinical outcome was recorded and a group of patients that might not benefit from preoperative imaging was identified.
A total of 103 patients [mf = 6538, median age 47 (range 19-79) years] were included. Magnetic resonance imaging identified 39 simple and 64 complex fistulas. The percentage of simple fistula was 88% in fistulas with DEAOV ≤ 1cm, 48% in DEAOV 1-2cm and 38% in > 2cm. There was a significant difference between the complexity of the fistula and the distance to the anal verge (p < 0.001). The overall healing rate was 88%.
The complexity of perianal fistula depends on the DEAOV. We propose that preoperative imaging should be performed in fistulas with external opening > 1cm from the anal verge.

Methods This cross-sectional study of a population database identified all drug prescriptions of patients with erectile dysfunction during 2018. Main outcome measure The identification of other comorbidities and potentially inappropriate drugs that could worsen erectile dysfunction. Results A total of 2999 patients with erectile dysfunction (mean age 59.6 ± 12.1 years) were identified. A total of 88.2% received pharmacological treatment for erectile dysfunction, mainly tadalafil (70.5%). A total of 47.6% of all patients received at least one medication associated with worsening erectile dysfunction, especially hydrochlorothiazide (17.0%), metoprolol (7.9%) and sertraline (6.7%). Residing in Cali (OR 1.86; 95% CI 1.52-22.27) or Bucaramanga (OR 2.23; 95% CI 1.39-33.58), having 3 or more chronic comorbidities (OR 1.52; 95% CI 1.04-2.24) and presenting psychiatric (OR 5.5; 95% CI 3.70-8.17), cardiovascular (OR 3.48; 95% CI 2.79-4.33), genitourinary (OR 1.31; 95% CI 1.05-1.64) pathologies or chronic kidney failure (OR 1.84; 95% CI 1.18-2.21) elevated the probability of receiving these prescriptions. Conclusions The pharmacological treatment of erectile dysfunction was in accordance with the recommendations of clinical practice guidelines, but the high proportion of potentially inappropriate prescriptions makes it necessary to promote educational and pharmacovigilance strategies that improve the prescription habits of physicians involved in caring for this group of patients.

This article aimed to evaluate the efficacy of arthroereisis using synthetic polyethylene implants to correct excessive valgus deformity in pediatric patients with flexible valgus flatfoot.
Retrospective study of 20 pediatric patients with flexible valgus flatfoot, totaling 23 feet, between five and 14 years old, operated between January 2009 and July 2016. Clinical evaluations were performed by the Valenti podoscopic classification and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society criteria, based on radiographic images and podoscopic analysis. These patients underwent surgical treatment with the introduction of a synthetic implant in the sinus tarsi. Multiple linear regression analysis with Backward selection of variables, angles of pre and postoperative of radiographic images of the patients submitted to arthroereisis were performed.
The arthroereisis with interposition of synthetic material was satisfactory, considering that 91% of the cases presented clinical and radiographic improvement, with correction of angles and improvement in deformity degrees. Two cases presented implant loosening. The variables of the Bordelon and Pitch angles significantly influenced (p < 0,05) the improvement of the correction of deformity degrees.

It has created an unanticipated global public health crisis that is spreading rapidly in India as well, posing a serious threat to 1350 million persons. Among the factors, population density is foremost in posing a challenge in controlling the COVID-19 contagion. In such extraordinary times, evidence-based knowledge is the prime requisite for pacifying the effect. In this piece, we have studied the district wise transmissions of the novel coronavirus in five south Indian states until 20th July 2020 and its relationship with their respective population density. The analysis has found that COVID-19 transmission in four states (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana) strongly hinges upon the spatial distribution of population density. In addition, the results indicate that the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 crisis are likely to differ with demographic density. In conclusion, those at the helm of affairs must take cognizance of the vulnerability clusters together across districts.
Antibiotic resistance is increasing to dangerously high levels globally with subsequent higher medical costs, prolonged hospital stays and increased levels of mortality. Ensuring patients' knowledge, attitude, and proper use of antimicrobials is one of the strategies to control resistance. The aim of this study is to evaluate the public awareness, attitude, and practice regarding antimicrobial use and resistance in Kemissie Town, Northeast Ethiopia.
A community-based, cross-sectional study was conducted on 385 adults selected using systematic random sampling in Kemissie town from March 1 to May 1, 2019. A home-to-home visit interview was done using a structured interview guide. The data were coded individually and entered into a computer using Epi-info version 3.5.1 and then exported to SPSS version 23.0 for analysis. Univariate analyses were used to describe the categorical variables.
Of the 345 respondents who took antibiotics, three quarters (74.78%) received antibiotics with a prescription. Of the tkers and healthcare professionals. The community of Kemissie town had a positive attitude towards finishing antibiotic regimens. This study also identified crucial gaps in the practices of the community about the use of antibiotics.

There are often cases with postoperative complications after laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), resulting in severe consequences. This study aimed to identify potential risk factors of postoperative complications in cases of LC for acute cholecystitis.
A total of 423 patients with cholecystitis underwent LC. We divided the patients into two groups group without postoperative complications (Group A) and group with postoperative complications (Group B). Pre-operative findings, surgical findings, and the methods for evaluating the risk of peri-operative complications were compared between the two groups with a univariate analysis. Independent risk factors of postoperative complications were then evaluated in a multivariate analysis with the factors shown to be statistically significant in the univariate analysis.

This article aimed to evaluate the efficacy of arthroereisis using synthetic polyethylene implants to correct excessive valgus deformity in pediatric patients with flexible valgus flatfoot. Retrospective study of 20 pediatric patients with flexible valgus flatfoot, totaling 23 feet, between five and 14 years old, operated between January 2009 and July 2016. Clinical evaluations were performed by the Valenti podoscopic classification and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society criteria, based on radiographic images and podoscopic analysis. These patients underwent surgical treatment with the introduction of a synthetic implant in the sinus tarsi. Multiple linear regression analysis with Backward selection of variables, angles of pre and postoperative of radiographic images of the patients submitted to arthroereisis were performed. The arthroereisis with interposition of synthetic material was satisfactory, considering that 91% of the cases presented clinical and radiographic improvement, with correction of angles and improvement in deformity degrees. Two cases presented implant loosening. The variables of the Bordelon and Pitch angles significantly influenced (p < 0,05) the improvement of the correction of deformity degrees. To explore differences among placental anastomoses, territory discordance, and umbilical cord insertion of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) with and without selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR).
This study retrospectively analyzed 57 patients with TTTS who received conservative treatment and finally delivered at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking University Third Hospital from April 2014 to April 2019. Nine of the patient's placentas were too broken to finish the perfusion, and 48 were kept for graph analysis after perfusion. Among the 48 placentas, there were 17 in the TTTS with sIUGR group and 31 in the TTTS without sIUGR group. Differences in the placentas were compared between groups.

All these compounds (1-13) were isolated for the first time from this plant among which compounds 3, 4, 6 and 9-13 were also isolated from the genus Schefflera for the first time. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by analyses of their spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR, and MS). The antibacterial and cytotoxic activities of crude extracts, fractions and compounds (1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9) were investigated against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria strains as well as on human cervix carcinoma and colon adenocarcinoma cancer cell lines, respectively. They showed weak to significant activity towards the strains and malignant cells used.

To identify if there is a link between sacral agenesis (SA) and post-operative coronal imbalance in patients with congenital lumbosacral deformities.
This study reviewed a consecutive series of patients with congenital lumbosacral deformities. They had a minimum follow-up of 2 years. According to different diagnosis, they were divided into SA and non-SA group. Comparison analysis was performed between patients with and without post-operative coronal imbalance and risk factors were identified.
A total of 45 patients (18 in SA group and 27 in non-SA group) were recruited into this study, among whom 33 patients maintained coronal balance while 12 demonstrated postoperative coronal imbalance at last follow-up (14.32 ± 7.67 mm vs 35.53 ± 3.91 mm, P < 0.001). Univariate analysis showed that preoperative lumbar Cobb angle, immediate postoperative coronal balance distance and diagnosis of SA were significantly different between patients with and without post-operative coronal imbalance (P < 0.05). Binary logistic regression analysis showed that SA was an independent risk factor for postoperative coronal imbalance.
As an independent risk factor for postoperative coronal imbalance, high level of suspicion of SA should be aware in children with congenital lumbosacral deformities. Sufficient bone grafts at sacroiliac joint are recommended for SA patients to prevent postoperative coronal imbalance.

Primary synovial chondromatosis (PSC) is a progressive disorder of unknown etiology resulting in formation of multiple loose bodies. If left untreated, it may lead to degenerative changes or malignant transformation to chondrosarcoma.
Seventeen patients who underwent combined posterior and anterior ankle arthroscopy within the same operative session and had histologically confirmed PSC were included in this retrospective study. American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) Ankle-Hindfoot score was used to evaluate ankle function preoperatively and at a final follow-up. A 3-question survey was used to evaluate patient's satisfaction at the final follow-up.
In 14 patients, loose bodies were found in both compartments of the ankle, in 2 only in the anterior compartment, and in 1 only in the posterior compartment. All patients had evident signs of synovial inflammation in both compartments. The AOFAS Ankle-Hindfoot score increased from the preoperative median score of 65 (range, 29-90) to 95 (range, 65-100) at the final follow-up.

The current study was performed to investigate the protective effects of dietary Haematococcus pluvialis (H. pluvialis) on the oxidative stress induced by arsenic in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The fish (20.70 ± 0.09 g) were fed with H. pluvialis at the levels of 0.28, 0.56, and 1.12 g 100 g-1 diet for 60 days. Then, each group was divided into two subgroups. In one of the subgroups, fish were exposed to arsenic challenge at a level of 9.1 mg/L. The other subset was used as the negative control. After the 96 h of toxicity test, protein and lipid oxidative levels, antioxidant-relevant gene expression as well as several chemical factors, including pH and peroxide value and moisture content, were evaluated in the fillet samples. Results showed that feeding with H. pluvialis decreased the levels of pH, peroxide value, as well as protein and lipid oxidation levels in treatment groups. Besides, the expression of antioxidant genes was significantly increased in the groups administrated with H. pluvialis. Based on the results of this study, feeding H. pluvialis attenuated the oxidative stress induced by arsenic in rainbow trout fillet through improving the antioxidant defense system.As a new type of pollutant, microplastics are of emerging widespread concern, while amount of research done in freshwater environments and organisms is litter compared to that in marine. Following this reality, the categories of MPs in two economic freshwater fish at 25 sites from 11 cities in the north and west rivers of Guangdong province were documented. Here, 76 individuals belong Oreochromis niloticus and Cirrhinus molitorella were investigated and microplastics were found in the GITs of 43.4% and gills of 25%. The average abundances of microplastics have significant difference between Oreochromis niloticus (0.015 items/ g) and Cirrhinus molitorella (0.031 items/g), while no difference by individual (~1.9 items). The plastics were dominated by white in color (61%), fragment in shape (67%), and lass than 1 mm in size (74%). The spatial distribution of microplastics revealed that there are significant differences between different cities in average abundances, and the highest average abundances of MPs were found in Zhanjiang city (4.25 items/individual) and Guangzhou city (0.044 items/g), respectively. To understand its tolerance and detoxification mechanism, the Cd stress responses, subcellular Cd distribution and chemically bound Cd forms (especially protein-bound Cd) were surveyed in this study. L. punctata, a potential Cd bioremediation plant, was cultured hydroponically with Cd concentrations of 0.0, 0.5, 2.0, and 5.0 mg L-1 for 5 days. The results showed that the Cd content in L. punctata increased significantly as the Cd content increased. The majority of Cd was localized in the soluble fraction (23-55%) and the cell wall fraction (21-54%), and only 14-23% of Cd was located in cell organelles. Analysis of the Cd chemical forms demonstrated that the largest portion of Cd was found in 1 M NaCl extracts, followed by d-H2O and 2% HAc extracts, indicating that Cd was mainly bound to different proteins. Albumin- and globulin-bound Cd forms were predominant, together accounting for over 80% of the total protein-bound Cd in L. punctata. The current study was performed to investigate the protective effects of dietary Haematococcus pluvialis (H. pluvialis) on the oxidative stress induced by arsenic in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The fish (20.70 ± 0.09 g) were fed with H. pluvialis at the levels of 0.28, 0.56, and 1.12 g 100 g-1 diet for 60 days. Then, each group was divided into two subgroups. In one of the subgroups, fish were exposed to arsenic challenge at a level of 9.1 mg/L. The other subset was used as the negative control. After the 96 h of toxicity test, protein and lipid oxidative levels, antioxidant-relevant gene expression as well as several chemical factors, including pH and peroxide value and moisture content, were evaluated in the fillet samples. Results showed that feeding with H. pluvialis decreased the levels of pH, peroxide value, as well as protein and lipid oxidation levels in treatment groups. Besides, the expression of antioxidant genes was significantly increased in the groups administrated with H. pluvialis. Based on the results of this study, feeding H. pluvialis attenuated the oxidative stress induced by arsenic in rainbow trout fillet through improving the antioxidant defense system.As a new type of pollutant, microplastics are of emerging widespread concern, while amount of research done in freshwater environments and organisms is litter compared to that in marine. Following this reality, the categories of MPs in two economic freshwater fish at 25 sites from 11 cities in the north and west rivers of Guangdong province were documented. Here, 76 individuals belong Oreochromis niloticus and Cirrhinus molitorella were investigated and microplastics were found in the GITs of 43.4% and gills of 25%. The average abundances of microplastics have significant difference between Oreochromis niloticus (0.015 items/ g) and Cirrhinus molitorella (0.031 items/g), while no difference by individual (~1.9 items). The plastics were dominated by white in color (61%), fragment in shape (67%), and lass than 1 mm in size (74%). The spatial distribution of microplastics revealed that there are significant differences between different cities in average abundances, and the highest average abundances of MPs were found in Zhanjiang city (4.25 items/individual) and Guangzhou city (0.044 items/g), respectively. Our results fully proved that the microplastics was widely ingested by wild fish species and suggested that the abundance and distribution of microplastics are positively related with the development of economy, tourism, industry, agriculture, and fishery.Toxicity monitoring of environmental pollutants especially petroleum hydrocarbons as priority pollutants is an important environmental issue. To understand its tolerance and detoxification mechanism, the Cd stress responses, subcellular Cd distribution and chemically bound Cd forms (especially protein-bound Cd) were surveyed in this study. L. punctata, a potential Cd bioremediation plant, was cultured hydroponically with Cd concentrations of 0.0, 0.5, 2.0, and 5.0 mg L-1 for 5 days. The results showed that the Cd content in L. punctata increased significantly as the Cd content increased. The majority of Cd was localized in the soluble fraction (23-55%) and the cell wall fraction (21-54%), and only 14-23% of Cd was located in cell organelles. Analysis of the Cd chemical forms demonstrated that the largest portion of Cd was found in 1 M NaCl extracts, followed by d-H2O and 2% HAc extracts, indicating that Cd was mainly bound to different proteins. Albumin- and globulin-bound Cd forms were predominant, together accounting for over 80% of the total protein-bound Cd in L. punctata. These results indicate that cell wall immobilization and vacuolar dissociation of Cd are possible primary strategies for Cd biosorption and detoxification in L. punctata, which occur mainly through chemical forms changes, especially the binding of Cd to proteins.Oil spills have an important threat to the ecological security and human health, for example the important oil field and coastal wetland Yellow River Delta is facing the dual problems of oil pollution and salinization. Our data illustrate the power of the ultrahigh resolution FT-ICR methods but include the caveat that MALDI-MS must be paired with complementary analytical tools to avoid artifacts.The design of stable organic light-emitting diode materials is the key to long lifetime displays under various stressful conditions. Elucidating the degradation mechanism of the materials at the molecular level provides useful information for securing high stability. Previous works based on experiments or computations disclosed only a part of the whole degradation process. Here, we propose a holistic approach to the systematic analysis of the degradation mechanism by combining experimental mass analysis and computation in a semi-automated fashion. The mass analysis identifies molecular weights of feasible products from degradation reactions. Then, the computational analysis goes through initiation, propagation, and termination phases. The initiation phase determines radical fragments and reactive sites, triggering the propagation process. In the propagation phase, we subsequently perform intermediate sampling, reaction network construction, and kinetic analysis. As a proof of concept, this approach was applied to the thermal degradation problem during the sublimation purification process. Two major pathways were successfully elucidated with full atomistic details.Herein we report the asymmetric syntheses of a number of oxygenated terpenoids that are of importance in the chemical ecology of bark beetles. These are pinocamphones, isopinocamphones, pinocarvones, and 4-thujanols (= sabinene hydrates). Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has improved symptom and quality-of-life outcomes in pilot research with post-treatment cancer survivors. To further test the ACT model, the present study examined relationships between ACT constructs and subgroups of post-treatment survivors based on the severity of common symptoms.
Survivors who had completed primary treatment for stage I or II cancer (N = 203) participated in this one-time survey. Latent class analysis (LCA) was used to identify subgroups of survivors based on the severity of fatigue, sleep disturbance, pain, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Multinomial logistic regressions employing Vermunt's 3-step approach were used to examine ACT constructs (e.g., mindfulness, acceptance, values progress) as correlates of survivor subgroups based on symptoms.
The LCA showed three survivor classes (1) mild-to-moderate levels of all symptoms except for normal pain intensity; (2) mild anxiety, moderate fatigue, and normal levels of all other symptoms; and (3) normal levels of all symptoms. Lower mindfulness, acceptance, and values progress and higher cognitive fusion, psychological inflexibility, and values obstruction were associated with a greater likelihood of being in class 1 or 2 than in class 3.
Findings are consistent with the ACT model. Survivors with greater symptom burden reported greater withdrawal from personally meaningful activities and less acceptance of their cancer diagnosis and internal experiences (e.g., thoughts, feelings, symptoms). Findings provide strong justification for further testing of ACT to reduce symptom-related suffering in cancer survivors.

AETs primarily expose patient to a higher risk of worsened periodontal health, salivary flow modifications, taste disturbance, and global deterioration of oral health-related quality of life. Although the rate of permanent discontinuation of AETs because of oral mucosal changes remains low, an interdisciplinary approach to evaluate oral health and to optimize oral supportive care appears essential to ensure an appropriate management and limit dose adjustment in treated patients. In this respect and based on our clinical experience, we propose recommendations to allow oncologists, nurses, and attending practitioners to implement appropriate measures rapidly and/or refer patients to dentists.

This review followed the Joanna Briggs Review's Manual, and the searches were performed on PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, Web of Science, and Lilacs databases and on the grey literature (ProQuest, Open Grey, and Google Scholar).
The searches resulted in 7535 articles that were critically assessed. Based on the selection criteria, seven studies were included in the review five cross-sectional studies and two randomized clinical trials. A total of 7755 patients composed the final population. An increase in bone sequestra, cortical bone lysis, and bone density was observed in bisphosphonate-related ONJ, while larger bone sequestra, more frequent periosteal reactions, and mandibular canal enhancement were noted in denosumab-related ONJ.
This systematic review demonstrated that the imaging characteristics of bisphosphonate-related and denosumab-related ONJ are not similar. Although clinically similar conditions, they were found to be radiographically distinct. More studies are necessary to further elucidate these differences.

Because couples with open agreements permit sex with outside partners, they must navigate different relationship issues than monogamous couples, and this can translate to differences in communication. We therefore examined differences between cisgender men in monogamous versus open relationships regarding communication about sexual agreements, safety agreements, breaking of sexual and safety agreements, the disclosure of broken sexual and safety agreements, and general relationship communication. Using a sample of 395 couples, we found that while certain aspects of communication are different for monogamous couples compared to open couples, similarities also exist. Specifically, we identified no differences in how explicitly couples discussed their sexual and safety agreements, attitudes toward communication about safety agreements, and mutual avoidance and withholding communication. However, monogamous couples had more positive attitudes toward communication about sexual agreements. The results were mixed on the perceived impact that broken safety agreements had on communication with the primary partner. Our results are interpreted with attention to relationship well-being and implications for safer sex practices.

This review followed the Joanna Briggs Review's Manual, and the searches were performed on PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, Web of Science, and Lilacs databases and on the grey literature (ProQuest, Open Grey, and Google Scholar). The searches resulted in 7535 articles that were critically assessed. Based on the selection criteria, seven studies were included in the review five cross-sectional studies and two randomized clinical trials. A total of 7755 patients composed the final population. An increase in bone sequestra, cortical bone lysis, and bone density was observed in bisphosphonate-related ONJ, while larger bone sequestra, more frequent periosteal reactions, and mandibular canal enhancement were noted in denosumab-related ONJ. Because couples with open agreements permit sex with outside partners, they must navigate different relationship issues than monogamous couples, and this can translate to differences in communication. We therefore examined differences between cisgender men in monogamous versus open relationships regarding communication about sexual agreements, safety agreements, breaking of sexual and safety agreements, the disclosure of broken sexual and safety agreements, and general relationship communication. Using a sample of 395 couples, we found that while certain aspects of communication are different for monogamous couples compared to open couples, similarities also exist. Specifically, we identified no differences in how explicitly couples discussed their sexual and safety agreements, attitudes toward communication about safety agreements, and mutual avoidance and withholding communication. However, monogamous couples had more positive attitudes toward communication about sexual agreements. The results were mixed on the perceived impact that broken safety agreements had on communication with the primary partner. Thanks to the development of a digital twin of the real robot station, tests of proper application functioning in off-line mode (without using a real robot) were conducted. The obtained results were verified on-line (on the real test station). Tests of the correctness of gesture recognition were carried out, and the robot recognized all programmed gestures. Another test carried out was the recognition and execution of voice commands. A difference in the time of task completion between the actual and virtual station was noticed; the average difference was 0.67 s. The last test carried out was to examine the impact of interference on the recognition of voice commands. High compliance in wearing a mask is a crucial factor for stopping the transmission of COVID-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, social media has been a key communication channel for citizens. This study focused on analyzing content from Twitter related to masks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Twitter data were collected using the keyword "mask" from 27 June 2020 to 4 July 2020. The total number of tweets gathered were
= 452,430. A systematic random sample of 1% (
= 4525) of tweets was analyzed using social network analysis. NodeXL (Social Media Research Foundation, California, CA, USA) was used to identify users ranked influential by betweenness centrality and was used to identify key hashtags and content.
The overall shape of the network resembled a community network because there was a range of users conversing amongst each other in different clusters. It was found that a range of accounts were influential and/or mentioned within the network. These ranged from ordinary citizens, politicians, and popular culture figures. The most common theme and popular hashtags to emerge from the data encouraged the public to wear masks.

In this study, RNA-Seq was used to evaluate global changes across the microspore transcriptome of soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merrill) as a consequence of pretreatment low-temperature stress. Expression analysis revealed more than 20,000 differentially expressed genes between treated and control microspore populations. Functional enrichment illustrated that many of these genes (e.g., those encoding heat shock proteins and cytochrome P450s) were upregulated to maintain cellular homeostasis through the mitigation of oxidative damage. Moreover, transcripts corresponding to saccharide metabolism, vacuolar transport, and other pollen-related developmental processes were drastically downregulated among treated microspores. Temperature stress also triggered cell wall modification and cell proliferation-characteristics that implied putative commitment to an embryonic pathway. These findings collectively demonstrate that pretreatment cold stress induces soybean microspore reprogramming through suppression of the gametophytic program while concomitantly driving sporophytic development.

These opposing metabolic processes remained in balance; however, which resulted in little-to-no changes to NEP. These effects of deforestation on ecosystem productivity, however, were highly variable between years and among the study islands. In light of the worldwide declines in kelp forests observed in recent decades, our findings suggest that marine deforestation profoundly affects how coastal ecosystems function.BACKGROUND The purpose of the study was to determine the impact of the performance of bimanual coordination tasks with specific characteristics on the changes in quality of coordination, musculoskeletal load of the upper limbs and cognitive functions. METHODS AND FINDINGS A group of 26 people aged 60-67 years performed 6 sessions of bimanual coordination training. Each session included set of tasks that varied depending on the shape in which the cursor moved, the coordination mode (in-phase, anti-phase, complex) and the tracking mode (imposed or freely chosen speed). Performance was assessed by Error, Variability and Execution. The load of upper limb muscles was expressed with the value of the normalized EMG amplitude. Cognitive functions were evaluated using the Vienna Test System. The Variability and Error values obtained during the sixth training session decreased by more than 50% of the initial values. Tasks with freely chosen speed showed changes from 15% to 34% for Error and from 45% to 50% for Variability. For tasks with imposed speed and coordination mode anti-phase or complex it was between 51% and 58% for Error and between 58% and 68% for Variability. Statistically significant differences between load during the sixth training session compared to the first session occurred in three out of four muscles and were between 9% to 39%. There were statistically significant differences in motor time and no differences in variables describing attention and working memory. CONCLUSIONS Coordination mode is meaningful for improving coordination skills; tasks in the anti-phase and complex are recommended. Tracking mode also plays a role, tasks with an imposed cursor movement speed have greater potential to improve coordination skills than tasks with freely chosen. Improved control skills resulted in the reduction of upper limb musculoskeletal load. It can be assumed that an increase in coordination skills with the use of appropriate training can help to reduce musculoskeletal load.Although there are many methods for reconstructing diets of the past, detailed taxon identification is still challenging, and most plants hardly remain at a site. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing were performed using a primer set specific to the genus Oryza because rice (Oryza sativa) was a staple food and this was the only member of this genus present in Japan at that time. DNA metabarcoding targeting plants, animals (meat and fish), and fungi were also carried out to investigate dietary diversity. We detected amplified products of the genus Oryza from more than half of the samples using PCR and Sanger sequencing. Another factor influencing the perception and recall of vaccination-related information might be people's attitudes towards vaccines. A confirmation bias would mean that pre-existing pro-vaccination attitudes positively predict perceptions of severity and recall of symptoms of vaccine preventable diseases and negatively predict perceptions of sevd of anti-vaccination claims can be explained by these particular universal cognitive biases.Despite more than 250 years of taxonomic research, we still have only a vague idea about the true size and composition of the faunas and floras of the planet. Many biodiversity inventories provide limited insight because they focus on a small taxonomic subsample or a tiny geographic area. Here, we report on the size and composition of the Swedish insect fauna, thought to represent roughly half of the diversity of multicellular life in one of the largest European countries. Our results are based on more than a decade of data from the Swedish Taxonomy Initiative and its massive inventory of the country's insect fauna, the Swedish Malaise Trap Project The fauna is considered one of the best known in the world, but the initiative has nevertheless revealed a surprising amount of hidden diversity more than 3,000 new species (301 new to science) have been documented so far. Here, we use three independent methods to analyze the true size and composition of the fauna at the family or subfamily level (1) assessments bystronger biases have distorted our understanding of the fauna in the past. We analyze latitudinal gradients in the size and composition of known European insect faunas and show that several of the patterns contradict the Swedish data, presumably due to similar knowledge biases. Addressing these biases is critical in understanding insect biomes and the ecosystem services they provide. Our results emphasize the need to broaden the taxonomic scope of current insect monitoring efforts, a task that is all the more urgent as recent studies indicate a possible worldwide decline in insect faunas.

The in-depth characterization of this chemistry, applied for the first time to silicones, is investigated first with model alkylamines (hexylamine, 2-ethylhexylamine and N-propylethylenediamine), a model oligosiloxane (3-aminopropylmethyl bis(trimethylsiloxy)silane), and finally various amino-polysiloxanes. It is shown that after a first acid-base reaction resulting in ionic pairing, aza-Michael addition proceeds smoothly in mild conditions (50 °C, 1-week reaction). Both monoadducts and di-adducts, together with residual amine, are observed by NMR. The supramolecular assembly of the thus-created zwitterionic moieties is highlighted by a concomitant increase in viscosity and phase separation, as observed by transmission electron microscopy, bringing an additional glass transition at -40 °C assigned to highly polar ionic clusters. Below the stoichiometry in acrylic acid, all zwitterionic silicones follow the same classical behavior of nonentangled polymers according to the Rouse model, whereas upon introducing an excess of acrylic acid to amino groups, an enhancement of the elasticity is observed. Finally, silicone elastomers with solid-like behavior and elastomeric mechanical properties are obtained using a high molar mass polymer bearing bifunctional N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyl units that favor a high degree of physical crosslinking.
Awake, unsedated in-office upper airway procedures are performed frequently and have high completion rates, yet less is known about the patients' pain experience and potentially influencing factors. It is also unclear if patients' pain experiences become worse with repeated procedures. We identified procedure- and patient-related factors that might influence procedural completion and pain scores.
Retrospective chart review.
Pre-, intra-, and post-procedure pain scores were collected prospectively for awake unsedated upper airway procedures performed at a single institution over a 5-year period. Patient factors reviewed were demographics, body mass index, psychiatric and/or pain diagnosis, and related medications. Procedure factors reviewed were procedure type, route, side, and performance of the same procedure multiple times. Patients reported their pain level before, during, and after the procedure using a standard 0 to 10 scale. Maximum pain score change (PΔmax), or the difference between highest and lowest reported pain levels, was calculated. Descriptive and multivariate analyses were performed.
Procedure completion was 98.7% for 609 first time patients and 99.0% in 60 patients undergoing 292 repeat procedures. PΔmax did not covary with age, gender, or BMI. PΔmax decreased over time for those undergoing multiple identical procedures.

Spirituality contributes to the health and well-being of individuals. This study investigates the factors that predict the spirituality perceptions and the effect of death anxiety of nurses.
This was a cross-sectional study, 382 nurses working in four public hospitals intensive care and emergency departments setting in two different cities in Turkey.
Variables predicting the total and subscale scores of the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale of nurses were determined by linear multiple regression analysis. Except for the religiousness subscale, the satisfaction level of nurses was found to be a significant predictor in total of Spirituality and Spiritual Care Scale.

The current study utilized an intersectional approach to assess potential disparities in the likelihood of receiving a PRF and the likelihood of receiving post-PRF follow-up care among veterans with substance use disorders (SUDs). Among 458,092 veterans who received a SUD diagnosis in 2012, Black veterans were less likely to receive a PRF, although Black-disabled veterans and Black-female veterans were more likely to receive a PRF. Homelessness was related to greater likelihood of receiving a PRF and post-PRF care. Hispanic/Latinx veterans who experienced homelessness were more likely to receive post-PRF care, while disabled veterans who experienced homelessness were less likely. Hispanic/Latinx, female veterans, and Black-disabled veterans were significantly less likely to receive post-PRF care.
Overall, over 80% were either neutral or positive about the change. Our study showed a consistently low non-compliance rate of MSM over the three periods. The generally high level of acceptance of time-limited deferral among donors lends support to science-based policy development to protect blood safety. The in-depth characterization of this chemistry, applied for the first time to silicones, is investigated first with model alkylamines (hexylamine, 2-ethylhexylamine and N-propylethylenediamine), a model oligosiloxane (3-aminopropylmethyl bis(trimethylsiloxy)silane), and finally various amino-polysiloxanes. It is shown that after a first acid-base reaction resulting in ionic pairing, aza-Michael addition proceeds smoothly in mild conditions (50 °C, 1-week reaction). Both monoadducts and di-adducts, together with residual amine, are observed by NMR. The supramolecular assembly of the thus-created zwitterionic moieties is highlighted by a concomitant increase in viscosity and phase separation, as observed by transmission electron microscopy, bringing an additional glass transition at -40 °C assigned to highly polar ionic clusters. Below the stoichiometry in acrylic acid, all zwitterionic silicones follow the same classical behavior of nonentangled polymers according to the Rouse model, whereas upon introducing an excess of acrylic acid to amino groups, an enhancement of the elasticity is observed. Background Due to the increasing emergence of multi-resistant bacteria the search for alternative antimicrobial substances is of high interest. Promising agents are antimicrobial peptides which are host defense molecules of the innate immune system in a wide range of different species. Objectives The aim of this study was to assess the activity of nisin, melittin, lactoferrin, parasin-1 and LL-37 against 35 oral bacteria and Candida albicans employing the gold standard method for anaerobic susceptibility testing. Methods The activity of the peptides was determined by an agar dilution method under anaerobic and aerobic conditions. The test media contained final peptide concentrations between 0.125 µg/ml and 8 µg/ml (melittin, lactoferrin, parasin-1, LL-37) and between 0.125 µg/ml and 128 µg/ml (nisin). Results Nisin completely inhibited the growth of Megasphaera sp., Bifidobacterium longum, Parvimonas micra, Actinomyces israelii, Actinomyces naeslundii, Actinomyces odontolyticus, Prevotella intermedia, Streptococcus anginosus, Streptococcus constellatus and Staphylococcus aureus. The authors report a case of posterior dislocation in which patient remained asymptomatic and the dislocation was detected in a routine follow-up radiograph done at 18 months after surgery. UKA was subsequently converted into total knee arthroplasty and patient had a stable knee at two years follow-up with no signs of loosening or instability. Posterior meniscal bearing dislocation may remain asymptomatic and continued examination with high index of suspicion is needed to disclose such complications in the absence of symptoms.
Diaphyseal tibial fractures distal to a well-fixed tibial component although rare present a significant challenge and optimal treatment remains controversial. Displaced periprosthetic tibial shaft fractures are ideally treated with open reduction internal fixation with plate osteosynthesis. However, this treatment method is associated with weight-bearing restrictions, which can be difficult for elderly patients with multiple comorbidities and balance impairment. We present our experience of internal fixation with an intramedullary nail that uses an inferior entry point, standard intramedullary tibial nail, and conventional instrumentation.
Between 2017 and 2018, three patients with acute tibial shaft fractures distal to a TKA (Felix Type 3A) were treated with an intramedullary nail. Preoperative planning involved assessing proximal tibia to ensure adequate room for implant and instrumentation. The average patient age was 66.3years (range 59-72years) and all patients were males. All the patients sustained fractures of distal tibial and fibula diaphysis, after a road traffic accident. There were no complications intraoperatively, and all procedures were completed uneventfully. One patient underwent additional fixation of the fibula.
All patients achieved a radiological fracture union after an average of 20.6weeks. There were no fixation failures, or nonunions postoperatively. There were no new symptoms relative to the TKA that could be attributed to the tibial nailing procedure.
We recommend that this technique can be used primarily for this fracture pattern distal to a TKA, provided there is adequate space to accommodate the nail and instrumentation proximally anterior to the tibial tray.
The ultimate success of a total hip replacement lies in patients forgetting about their artificial joints during routine activities. "Forgotten Joint Score (FJS)" is emerging as an important tool in assessing outcomes of total hip arthroplasty. There has been no version of this score available in commonly spoken vernaculars in India. This study aims to formulate and validate the Hindi version of FJS in Indian population.
A total of 136 patients with a minimum follow-up of 6months and a maximum follow-up of 18months after total hip arthroplasty were asked to fill the translated and adapted version of FJS questionnaire, at two points of time 2weeks apart. The Hindi version of FJS (I-FJS) was tested for reliability and responsiveness, floor and ceiling effect and validity against modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS). Construct validity was expressed as the Pearson correlation coefficient. Internal consistency was expressed as Cronbach's alpha and test-retest reliability as the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC).
I-FJS showed excellent internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha of 0.88. Intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.94. I-FJS showed good correlation with m-HHS (
= 0.8,
= 0.001). The standard error of measurement was 3.6 and the smallest detectable change was 9.97. There was no floor or ceiling effect observed with I-FJS. Data from this study were insufficient to establish adequate responsiveness of I-FJS.
I-FJS is a valid, reliable and reproducible score for hip function in post-THA patients. It is devoid of any floor or ceiling effect. Hindi version of FJS could be an effective tool for studying hip function in the Indian population.

It remains controversial whether isolated acetabular component revision or both component revision surgeries should be performed in patients with stable femoral component. The present study aimed to evaluate the survival of patients with unrevised stable uncemented femoral stem who underwent isolated acetabular component revision.
A retrospective analysis was conducted in patients who underwent isolated acetabular component revision and had stable uncemented femoral component during revision hip arthroplasty between February 1998 and December 2009. Demographic data of the patients included age, previous surgery, complications, duration between primary and revision surgery, and duration between revision and latest follow-up. Functional results were analyzed using Harris Hip Score (HHS).
Fifteen hips of thirteen patients were included in the study with a mean age of 62.08 ± 12.9years. Average time from THA to the isolated acetabular revision was 9.2 ± 3.48years. Average follow-up time from revision to the latest follow-up was 12.
