    To investigate the diagnostic performance of T2*-weighted gradient echo (GRE) imaging, susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI), or quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) in differentiating multiple system atrophy-parkinsonian type (MSA-P) from Parkinson's disease (PD).

    A systematic literature search through the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases was performed, starting on September 8, 2020, to identify studies evaluating the diagnostic performance of putaminal hypointensity on T2* GRE or SWI and phase shift on QSM in differentiating MSA-P from PD. The pooled sensitivity and specificity were obtained using hierarchical logistic regression modeling and hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic (HSROC) modeling. The pooled diagnostic yields of T2* GRE, SWI, or QSM among MSA-P patients were calculated using the DerSimonian-Laird random-effects model.

    Twelve original articles with 985 patients were finally included. SWI was performed in seven studies, T2* GRE was performed in three studies, and QSM wtivity and specificity were 0.65 (95% CI 0.51-0.78) and 0.90 (95% CI 0.83-0.95), respectively. • The pooled diagnostic yield of T2* GRE, SWI, or QSM was 66% (95% CI 51-78%).

    This systematic review and meta-analysis summarises the current literature on invasive treatment options of cystic hepatic echinococcosis (CE), comparing percutaneous radiological interventions to surgery, still the cornerstone of treatment in many countries.

    A literature search was conducted in Medline and EMBASE databases (PROSPERO registration number CRD42019126150). The primary outcome was recurrence of cysts after treatment. Secondary outcomes were complications, duration of hospitalisation, mortality and treatment conversion.

    The number of eligible prospective studies, in particular RCTs, was limited. In the four included studies, only conventional surgery is compared directly to percutaneous techniques. From the available data, in terms of recurrence, percutaneous treatment of hydatid cysts is non-inferior to open surgery. With regard to complications and length of hospital stay, outcomes favour percutaneous therapy.

    Although evidence from prospective research is small, percutaneous treatment in CE is an effective, safe and less invasive alternative to surgery.

The TRIM dressing film is composed of alternative microscale arrangement of heat-responsive hydrogel regions and mechanical support regions, which enables the surface microtopography to have a significant effect on disrupting bacterial colonization upon infrared irradiation. The regulation of the interfacial contact to the attached skin confines the produced heat and minimizes the risk of skin damage during thermoablation. Quantitative mechanobiology studies demonstrate the TRIM dressing film with a critical dimension for surface features plays a critical role in maintaining intercellular cohesion of the epidermis during photothermal therapy. Finally, endowing wound dressing with the TRIM effect via in vivo studies in S. aureus infected **** demonstrates a promising strategy for mitigating the side effects of photothermal therapy against a wide spectrum of bacterial infections, promoting future biointerface design for antibacterial therapy. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. AOCED was incorporated in diets at dose levels of 0%, 0.75%, 1.5% and 3.0% (w/w) and administered to healthy domestic shorthair female cats starting two weeks before mating, then during mating, gestation, lactation and to their kittens until they reached 32 weeks of age. The diets were made isocaloric and met the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) nutrient requirements of cats for growth and reproduction. Dietary AOCED treatment did not affect the overall health, physiological parameters, food consumption and body weights of the queens and their kittens. No AOCED-related changes in haematology, coagulation or clinical chemistry parameters were observed in either generation when compared to control cats. Plasma levels of EPA and DHA were dose-dependently increased in both generations, demonstrating bioavailability of the fatty acids. In this study, safety of AOCED at levels up to 3.0% in the diet was demonstrated in cats with administration starting in utero and until kittens reached 32 weeks of age. In the conventional air cathode, the 2D multiphase interface on the surface of the gas diffusion layer (GDL) inevitably results in an insufficient amount of active sites and poor interfacial contact, leading to sluggish reaction kinetics. To address this problem, a 3D multiphase interface strategy is proposed to extend the reactive interface into the interior of the GDL. Based on this concept, an asymmetric air cathode is designed to increase the accessible active sites, accelerate mass transfer, and generate a dynamically stabilized reactive interface. With a NiFe layered-double-hydroxide electrocatalyst, ZABs based on the asymmetric cathode deliver a small charge/discharge voltage gap (0.81 V at 5.0 mA cm-2 ), a high power density, and a stable cyclability (over 2000 cycles). In a quantitative trait loci (QTL) study using 82 backcross inbred lines (BILs) derived from Koshihikari (KOS) and Habataki (HAB), 68 QTLs for 25 panicle morphological traits were identified. Gene expression profiling from inflorescence meristems of BILs was obtained. The combination of phenotypic QTL (pQTL) quantitative trait loci with expression QTL (eQTL) analysis revealed co-localization between pQTLs and eQTLs, consistent with the significant correlations between phenotypic traits and gene expression levels. By the combination of pQTL and eQTL data, two genes are identified for controlling panicle structure OsMADS18 modulates the average length of primary rachis, and OsFTL1 has pleiotropic effects on the total number of secondary rachis, grain number per panicle, plant height, and length of flag leaves. Phenotypes were confirmed in RNA interference (RNAi) knocked down plants and overexpressor lines. This study was conducted on the basis of a completely randomized design in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement with dietary supplemental WP sources (no WP; 2% WP and 2% whey protein concentrate (WPC)) and ethanol (zero and 6%) into drinking water. Birds were challenged with ethanol 6% from 10 to 24 days of age. Growth performance, immune responses, intestinal morphology and antioxidant enzymes were assessed in both challenged and non-challenged groups. There was a significant interaction between ethanol and WP sources for growth performance, so that weight gain (WG), feed intake (FI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were significantly improved in broiler chickens challenged with ethanol and fed with WP (p  less then  .05).   • BACKGROUND The Australian government has implemented a compulsory aged care accreditation system to guide and monitor the risk management approach in registered residential aged care (RAC) homes. This research assessed the contribution of electronic health records (EHR) to risk management in RAC homes in relation to the extent that aged care accreditation fulfils its role. METHODS A convenience sample of 5560 aged care accreditation reports published from 2011 to 2018 was manually downloaded from the Accreditation Agency web site. A mixed-method approach of text data mining and manual content analysis was used to identify any significant differences in failure to meet accreditation outcomes among the RAC homes. This took account of whether EHR or paper records were used, year of accreditation, and size and location of the homes. RESULTS It appears that aged care accreditation was focused on structure and process, with limited attention to outcome. There was a big variation between homes in their use of measurata infrastructure and clear guidance.BACKGROUND The present cohort study aims to examine the relationship between fibrinogen (Fib) levels and glucose metabolism [fasting blood glucose (FBG) and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c)] and investigate the impact of high Fib on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with stable *** and pre-diabetes mellitus (pre-DM) or diabetes mellitus (DM). METHODS This study included 5237 patients from March 2011 to December 2015. Patients were distributed into three groups according to Fib levels (low Fib, median Fib, high Fib) and further categorized by glucose metabolism status [normal glucose regulation (NGR), Pre-DM, DM]. All patients were followed up for the occurrences of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), including cardiovascular mortality, nonfatal MI, stroke, and unplanned coronary revascularization. RESULTS Linear regression analyses showed that FBG and HbA1c levels were positively associated with Fib in overall *** participants, either with or without DM (all P  0.05, respectively). When patients were stratified by both glucose metabolism status and Fib levels, high Fib was associated with a higher risk of MACEs in pre-DM (HR 1.66, 95% CI 1.02-2.71, P  less then  0.05). Medium and high Fib levels were associated with an even higher risk of MACEs in DM (HR 1.86, 95% CI 1.14-3.05 and HR 2.28, 95% CI 1.42-3.66, all P  less then  0.05). RESULTS The incidence of occult AL on postoperative day 7 was 6 of 15 (40%). Hand-sewn anastomosis, compared with stapled anastomosis, was a significant risk factor. Five more cases with occult AL that could not be detected with CE could be detected on CT following CE; CE alone had a 33% false-negative radiological result rate. CONCLUSIONS Hand-sewn anastomosis appeared to be a risk factor for occult AL, and CE alone had a high false-negative radiological result rate. CONCLUSIONS Gastric remnant necrosis after distal gastrectomy can be a gastrointestinal presentation of cholesterol crystal embolization. Perioperative/intraoperative risk assessments such as preventive total gastrectomy or intraoperative assessment with indocyanine green fluorescence angiography may be desirable to avoid this complication.
    BACKGROUND The Australian government has implemented a compulsory aged care accreditation system to guide and monitor the risk management approach in registered residential aged care (RAC) homes. This research assessed the contribution of electronic health records (EHR) to risk management in RAC homes in relation to the extent that aged care accreditation fulfils its role. METHODS A convenience sample of 5560 aged care accreditation reports published from 2011 to 2018 was manually downloaded from the Accreditation Agency web site. A mixed-method approach of text data mining and manual content analysis was used to identify any significant differences in failure to meet accreditation outcomes among the RAC homes. This took account of whether EHR or paper records were used, year of accreditation, and size and location of the homes. RESULTS It appears that aged care accreditation was focused on structure and process, with limited attention to outcome. There was a big variation between homes in their use of measurata infrastructure and clear guidance.BACKGROUND The present cohort study aims to examine the relationship between fibrinogen (Fib) levels and glucose metabolism [fasting blood glucose (FBG) and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c)] and investigate the impact of high Fib on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with stable CAD and pre-diabetes mellitus (pre-DM) or diabetes mellitus (DM). METHODS This study included 5237 patients from March 2011 to December 2015. Patients were distributed into three groups according to Fib levels (low Fib, median Fib, high Fib) and further categorized by glucose metabolism status [normal glucose regulation (NGR), Pre-DM, DM]. All patients were followed up for the occurrences of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), including cardiovascular mortality, nonfatal MI, stroke, and unplanned coronary revascularization. RESULTS Linear regression analyses showed that FBG and HbA1c levels were positively associated with Fib in overall CAD participants, either with or without DM (all P  0.05, respectively). When patients were stratified by both glucose metabolism status and Fib levels, high Fib was associated with a higher risk of MACEs in pre-DM (HR 1.66, 95% CI 1.02-2.71, P  less then  0.05). Medium and high Fib levels were associated with an even higher risk of MACEs in DM (HR 1.86, 95% CI 1.14-3.05 and HR 2.28, 95% CI 1.42-3.66, all P  less then  0.05). Decreased activity of antioxidant enzymes (T-***, GSH, GSH-Px) and elevated MDA content were observed in different segments of the small intestine. Furthermore, the concentrations of Fe, Cu, Zn and Mg were significantly decreased or increased. In addition, the mRNA expression levels of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, MAPK3, NF-κB, and Caspase-3 were increased after glyphosate exposure. However, research on the neurobehavioral effects of this endocrine disruptive chemical is still in its infancy. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of long-term exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of BPS on recognition memory and its mechanism(s) of action, especially focusing on the glutamatergic/ERK/CREB pathway in the brain. Adult female zebrafish were exposed to the vehicle, 17β-estradiol (E2, 1 μg/L), or BPS (1, 10 and 30 μg/L) for 120 days. Fish were then tested in the object recognition (OR), object placement (OP), and social recognition tasks (SR). Chronic exposure to E2 and 1 μg/L of BPS improved fish performance in OP task. This was associated with an up-regulation in the mRNA expression of several subtypes of metabotropic and ionotropic glutamate receptors, an increase in the phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2 and CREB, and an elevated transcript abundance of several immediate early genes involved in synaptic plasticity and memory formation. In contrast, the exposure to 10 and 30 μg/L of BPS attenuated fish performance in all recognition memory tasks. The impairment of these memory functions was associated with a marked down-regulation in the expression and activity of genes and proteins involved in glutamatergic/ERK/CREB signaling cascade. Collectively, our study demonstrated that the long-term exposure to BPS elicits hermetic effects on the recognition memory in zebrafish. Furthermore, the effect of BPS on the recognition memory seems to be mediated by the glutamatergic/ERK/CREB signaling pathway. Chromium (VI) reduction by organic compounds is one of the major pathways to alleviate the toxicity and mobility of Cr(VI) in the environment. However, oxidative products of organic molecules receive less scientific concerns. In this study, hydroquinone (H2Q) was used as a representative organic compound to determine the redox reactions with Cr(VI) and the concomitant oxidative products. Spectroscopic analyses showed that Cr(III) hydroxides dominated the precipitates produced during redox reactions of Cr(VI) and H2Q. For the separated filtrates, the acidification induced the oxidative polymerization of organic molecules, accompanied with the complexation with Cr(III). The aromatic domains dominated the chemical structures of the black and fluffy organic polymers, which was different to the natural humic acids due to the shortage of aliphatic chains. Results of linear combination fitting (LCF) for Cr K-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectra demonstrated that up to 90.4% of Cr inventory in precipitates derived after the acidification of filtrates was Cr(III) complexed with humic-like polymers, suggesting that Cr(III) possibly acted as a linkage among organic molecules during the polymerization processes of H2Q.

The type strain is GTF13T (=KACC 19788T=JCM 32043T).Pseudomonas chlororaphis isolates have been studied intensively for their beneficial traits. P. chlororaphis species function as probiotics in plants and fish, offering plants protection against microbes, nematodes and insects. In this review, we discuss the classification of P. chlororaphis isolates within four subspecies; the shared traits include the production of coloured antimicrobial phenazines, high sequence identity between housekeeping genes and similar cellular fatty acid composition. The direct antimicrobial, insecticidal and nematocidal effects of P. chlororaphis isolates are correlated with known metabolites. Other metabolites prime the plants for stress tolerance and participate in microbial cell signalling events and biofilm formation among other things. Formulations of P. chlororaphis isolates and their metabolites are currently being commercialized for agricultural use.A novel thermotolerant bacterial strain was isolated from a hot spring in a Tibetan geothermal field. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the novel strain showed that it belongs to a distinct lineage far from any known taxa. The new isolate shared the highest pairwise sequence identity with Phreatobacter cathodiphilus S-12T (92.8 % similarity) according to the 16S rRNA gene sequences. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped and formed white round colonies. The strain grew at the ranges of 28-45 °C (optimum, 37 °C), pH 5.0-7.0 (optimum, pH 6.0) and 0-2 % NaCl. The strain was positive for catalase and oxidase. The major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone Q-10. Polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylcholine. The major fatty acids were summed feature 8 (C18  1  ω7c and/or C18  1  ω6c). The DNA G+C content was 68.3 mol%. Based on these distinguishing properties, this strain is proposed to represent a new species of a new genus Rhabdaerophilum calidifontis gen. nov., sp. nov., within a new family Rhabdaerophilaceae fam. nov. The type strain of the type species of Rhabdaerophilum calidifontis is SYSU G02060T (=KCTC 72351T=CGMCC 1.17070T).Eight facultatively anaerobic rod-shaped bacteria were isolated from raw milk and two other dairy products. P. chlororaphis species function as probiotics in plants and fish, offering plants protection against microbes, nematodes and insects. In this review, we discuss the classification of P. chlororaphis isolates within four subspecies; the shared traits include the production of coloured antimicrobial phenazines, high sequence identity between housekeeping genes and similar cellular fatty acid composition. The direct antimicrobial, insecticidal and nematocidal effects of P. chlororaphis isolates are correlated with known metabolites. Other metabolites prime the plants for stress tolerance and participate in microbial cell signalling events and biofilm formation among other things. Formulations of P. chlororaphis isolates and their metabolites are currently being commercialized for agricultural use.A novel thermotolerant bacterial strain was isolated from a hot spring in a Tibetan geothermal field. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the novel strain showed that it belongs to a distinct lineage far from any known taxa. The new isolate shared the highest pairwise sequence identity with Phreatobacter cathodiphilus S-12T (92.8 % similarity) according to the 16S rRNA gene sequences. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped and formed white round colonies. The strain grew at the ranges of 28-45 °C (optimum, 37 °C), pH 5.0-7.0 (optimum, pH 6.0) and 0-2 % NaCl. The strain was positive for catalase and oxidase. The major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone Q-10. Polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylcholine. The major fatty acids were summed feature 8 (C18  1  ω7c and/or C18  1  ω6c). The DNA G+C content was 68.3 mol%. Based on these distinguishing properties, this strain is proposed to represent a new species of a new genus Rhabdaerophilum calidifontis gen. nov., sp. nov., within a new family Rhabdaerophilaceae fam. nov. The type strain of the type species of Rhabdaerophilum calidifontis is SYSU G02060T (=KCTC 72351T=CGMCC 1.17070T).Eight facultatively anaerobic rod-shaped bacteria were isolated from raw milk and two other dairy products. Results of phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the isolates are placed in a distinct lineage within the family Propionibacteriaceae with Propioniciclava sinopodophylli and Propioniciclava tarda as the closest relatives (94.6 and 93.5 % similarity, respectively). On the basis of phenotypic and genetic data, eight strains (VG341T, WS4684, WS4769, WS 4882, WS4883, WS4901, WS4902 and WS4904) are proposed to be classified as members of a novel species in a new genus of the family Propionibacteriaceae, for which the name Brevilactibacter flavus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. Methods Pelvic limb kinematics and kinetics were measured for a 2 year old healthy female Dachshund (5.4 kg) during gait using 3-D motion capture and force platforms. A computed tomography scan was conducted to acquire pelvis and pelvic limb morphology. Using the OpenSim modeling platform, a bilateral pelvic limb subject-specific rigid body musculoskeletal computer model was developed. This model predicted muscle activation patterns, muscle forces, and angular kinematics and joint moments during walking. Results Gait kinematics determined from motion capture matched those predicted by the model, verifying model accuracy. Primary muscles involved in generan patterns and forces. Thus, musculoskeletal modeling allows for quantification of measures such as muscle forces that are difficult or impossible to measure in vivo. The effect of nanorods surface chemistry on the optical and mechanical properties of keratin composite films is fully investigated. Colloid nanorods confer to the keratin films interesting color effects due to plasmonic absorptions of the metal nanostructures. The presence of metal NRs induces also substantial change in the protein fluorescence emission. In particular, the relative contribution of the ordered-protein aggregates emission is enhanced by the presence of cysteine and thus strictly related to the surface chemistry of nanorods. The presence of more packed supramolecular structures in the films containing metal nanorods (in particular cysteine modified ones) is confirmed by ATR measurements. In addition, the films containing nanorods show a higher Young's modulus compared to keratin alone and again the effect is more pronounced for cysteine modified nanorods. Collectively, the reported results indicate the optical and mechanical properties of keratin composites films are related to a common property and can be tuned simultaneously, paving the way to the optimization and improvement of their performances and enhancing the exploitation of keratin composites in highly technological optoelectronic applications. The Get WalkIN' program is comprised of 16 email messages sent over 12 weeks. Email messages target social cognitive theory constructs of self-efficacy, goal-setting, self-monitoring, and social support. Program reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance were assessed with quantitative measures in a pre-post design. Findings indicate that within the Extension system, program adoption was high and program maintenance was moderate. Program effectiveness was demonstrated with an increase of 77.1 ± 49.9 min in weekly walking post-program. This increase in walking was maintained 3 months post-program. Capturing data on the implementation process was challenging. Overall, the results indicate success in program adoption and maintenance with further efforts needed to improve follow-up data collection from participants. In addition, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which became law in 2010, requires hospitals to conduct community health needs assessments (CHNA) and develop community health implementation plans (CHIP) as a response to priority needs every 3 years. These new requirements have led to greater transparency and accountability and this scoping review considers what has been learned about community benefit from 2010 to 2019. Methods This review identified peer-reviewed literature published from 2010 to 2019 using three methods. First, an OvidSP MEDLINE search using terms suggested previously by community benefit researchers. Second, a PubMed search using keywords frequently found in community benefit literature. Relative abundance of an ARG was calculated as the percentage of fecal samples showing the presence of that particular ARG. The frequency of occurrence of resistance marker against each class of antibiotic was calculated as the percentage of fecal samples carrying at least one resistance marker for that particular class of antimicrobials. Antibiogram of Vibrio cholerae (V. cholerae) O1 strains isolated from four of these samples was obtained by disc diffusion method and was compared with the ARG profile of corresponding fecal samples from which the strains were isolated. A 464 bp amplicon of the V3-V4 region of bacterial 16S rDNA was obtained by PCR from 9 of these 25 samples using the primer pair S-D-****-0341-b-S-17 and S-D-****-0785-a-A-21 and sequenced to determine the major operational taxonomic unit (OTU).

  • The synthesis routes used to produce MCM, their physical, morphologic and chemical features, and their application in the removal of these micro-organic contaminants from water will be assessed. The advantages and disadvantages of using MCM in water treatment, and their comparative performance with the carbonaceous non-magnetic precursors will be also discussed in this review. Sanitary inspection is used in low-, medium- and high-income settings to assess the risk of microbial contamination at water sources. However, the relationship between sanitary inspection and water quality is not well understood. We conducted a critical literature review and synthesized the findings of 25 studies comparing the results of sanitary inspection and microbial water quality analysis. Most studies used sub-standard sanitary inspection and water quality analysis methods, and applied simplistic comparisons that do not characterize the complexity of the relationship. Sanitary risk score was used to represent sanitary inspection results in 21 (84%) studies; of which 12 (57%) found a significant association between score and microbial water quality and nine (43%) did not. Participatory sanitary inspection (12%) and reporting results **** to communities (24%) were uncommon. Most studies relied on laboratory-based water quality analysis as an independently sufficient measure of safety, but reported inadequate quality control (52%) and/or sub-standard sample processing methods (66%). We found that sanitary inspections could contribute to improving water safety through four mechanisms guiding remedial action at individual water sources, allowing operators and external support programs to prioritize repairs, identifying programmatic issues, and contributing to research. The purpose of the sanitary inspection should be considered when planning sanitary inspection execution, data analysis, and reporting to ensure appropriate methods are employed and results are fit for purpose. Further exploration should recognize that sanitary risk factors represent sources of contamination, pathways for contaminants to enter water supplies, and breakdowns in barriers to contamination. Their recalcitrant nature makes them difficult to be removed from the environment using conventional remediation strategies. This study hypothesized that, upon continuous operation, biofiltration of OSPW in fixed-bed biofilm reactors would allow the development of NA-degrading microbial community within the biofilter following successful removal. Both raw and ozonated OSPW were treated in the biofilters and changes in microbial community were tested via 16S/18S amplicon sequencing and metatranscriptomics. Through switch from suspended growth to attached growth, a shift in indigenous microbial community was seen following by an increase in alpha diversity. Concomitantly, improved degradation of NAs was monitored, i.e., 35.8% and 69.4% of NAs were removed from raw and ozonated OSPW, respectively. Metatranscriptomics analysis suggested the presence of genes involved in the degradation of organic acids and petroleum-related compounds. Specifically, functional abundance of aromatic compounds' metabolism improved from 0.05% to 0.76%; whereas abundance of benzoate transport and degradation pathway increased from 0.04% to 0.64%. These changes conclude that continuous operation of OSPW in the bioreactors was in favor of shaping the overall microbiome towards better NA degradation. OBJECTIVE To review the published literature on clozapine associated cardiotoxicity (CACT), summarize diagnostic features, and evaluate monitoring procedures for safe clozapine re-challenge. RESULTS Clozapine-associated Myocarditis (CAM) - Incidence of early myocarditis (≤2 months) is infrequent but serious. Clinical diagnosis is confounded by variability in presentation and non-specificity of symptoms. Re-challenge considerations include clozapine impact on symptomatic severity and associated disability and risk of suicidality. Re-challenging is recommended only after full clinical resolution of myocarditis and cardiac function impairment, under closely controlled conditions, starting at very low dosage, extremely slow titration and frequent assays of lab and cardio biomarkers. Clozapine associated cardiomyopathy (CAC) -develops later but mortality has been reported at 12.5-24.0%. Re-challenge is generally not recommended due to paucity of outcome data. Monitoring Cardiac Toxicity Plausible steps include closer clinical monitoring, repeated assays of biomarkers, and echocardiographic studies, and cardiac MRI changes with unremarkable findings of cardiac dysfunction with echocardiography. Subclinical clozapine associated cardiotoxicity is more prevalent than CAM and CAC. Diagnosis is often challenging due to non specific presentation. Active monitoring is recommended. Intact decision-making skills in the social context are essential for optimal functioning in the community. Despite its significance, social decision making in schizophrenia (SCZ) has not been adequately examined. Hence, we examined social decision making in SCZ using the Ultimatum Game(UG), a neuroeconomic paradigm that involves financial transactions between a proposer and a responder to split a sum of money between them. Thirty male patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia as per DSM-IV (age = 30 ± 7.08) and thirty age-matched healthy male volunteers (HV;age = 28.48 ± 3.74) participated in the study. All participants functioned as responders and had to either accept or reject offers made by an anonymous proposer. We also examined whether the gender or emotional expression of the proposer influenced acceptance rates. SCZ had significantly lower acceptance rates than HV for slightly unequal offers (t = 3.94, p = less then 0.0001). However, there was no significant difference between SCZ and HV for other offers.

Participatory sanitary inspection (12%) and reporting results back to communities (24%) were uncommon. Most studies relied on laboratory-based water quality analysis as an independently sufficient measure of safety, but reported inadequate quality control (52%) and/or sub-standard sample processing methods (66%). We found that sanitary inspections could contribute to improving water safety through four mechanisms guiding remedial action at individual water sources, allowing operators and external support programs to prioritize repairs, identifying programmatic issues, and contributing to research. Their recalcitrant nature makes them difficult to be removed from the environment using conventional remediation strategies. This study hypothesized that, upon continuous operation, biofiltration of OSPW in fixed-bed biofilm reactors would allow the development of NA-degrading microbial community within the biofilter following successful removal. Both raw and ozonated OSPW were treated in the biofilters and changes in microbial community were tested via 16S/18S amplicon sequencing and metatranscriptomics. Through switch from suspended growth to attached growth, a shift in indigenous microbial community was seen following by an increase in alpha diversity. Concomitantly, improved degradation of NAs was monitored, i.e., 35.8% and 69.4% of NAs were removed from raw and ozonated OSPW, respectively. Metatranscriptomics analysis suggested the presence of genes involved in the degradation of organic acids and petroleum-related compounds. Specifically, functional abundance of aromatic compounds' metabolism improved from 0.05% to 0.76%; whereas abundance of benzoate transport and degradation pathway increased from 0.04% to 0.64%. These changes conclude that continuous operation of OSPW in the bioreactors was in favor of shaping the overall microbiome towards better NA degradation. OBJECTIVE To review the published literature on clozapine associated cardiotoxicity (CACT), summarize diagnostic features, and evaluate monitoring procedures for safe clozapine re-challenge. RESULTS Clozapine-associated Myocarditis (CAM) - Incidence of early myocarditis (≤2 months) is infrequent but serious. Clinical diagnosis is confounded by variability in presentation and non-specificity of symptoms. Re-challenge considerations include clozapine impact on symptomatic severity and associated disability and risk of suicidality. Re-challenging is recommended only after full clinical resolution of myocarditis and cardiac function impairment, under closely controlled conditions, starting at very low dosage, extremely slow titration and frequent assays of lab and cardio biomarkers. Clozapine associated cardiomyopathy (CAC) -develops later but mortality has been reported at 12.5-24.0%. Re-challenge is generally not recommended due to paucity of outcome data. Despite its significance, social decision making in schizophrenia (SCZ) has not been adequately examined. Hence, we examined social decision making in SCZ using the Ultimatum Game(UG), a neuroeconomic paradigm that involves financial transactions between a proposer and a responder to split a sum of money between them. Thirty male patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia as per DSM-IV (age = 30 ± 7.08) and thirty age-matched healthy male volunteers (HV;age = 28.48 ± 3.74) participated in the study. All participants functioned as responders and had to either accept or reject offers made by an anonymous proposer. We also examined whether the gender or emotional expression of the proposer influenced acceptance rates. SCZ had significantly lower acceptance rates than HV for slightly unequal offers (t = 3.94, p = less then 0.0001). However, there was no significant difference between SCZ and HV for other offers.

  • OBJECTIVE Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a heterogeneous disease with multiple neurological deficits that evolve over time. It is also associated with an increased incidence of neurodegenerative diseases. Accordingly, clinicians need better tools to predict a patient's long-term prognosis. METHODS Diffusion-weighted and anatomical MRI data were collected from 17 adolescents (mean age = 15y8mo) with moderate-to-severe TBI and 19 healthy controls. Using a network diffusion model (NDM), we examined the effect of progressive deafferentation and gray matter thinning in young TBI patients. Moreover, using a novel automated inference method, we identified several injury epicenters in order to determine the neural degenerative patterns in each TBI patient. RESULTS We were able to identify the subject-specific patterns of degeneration in each patient. In particular, the hippocampus, temporal cortices, and striatum were frequently found to be the epicenters of degeneration across the TBI patients. In the present study, we determined the expression of SEZ6L2 in a tissue microarray from patients with CRC and then, analysed the correlation between SEZ6L2 expression and the prognosis of the patients. Furthermore, the potential function of SEZ6L2 in CRC was determined using cell counting kit, colony formation assay and xenograft model in vitro and in vivo. Flow cytometry, Western blotting, immunohistochemical staining and a blocking experiment were employed to investigate the underlying mechanism of SEZ6L2 regulating CRC growth. Our results indicated that SEZ6L2 was significantly up-regulated in tumour tissues of patients with CRC compared with adjacent normal tissues. Up-regulation of SEZ6L2 was correlated with a poor prognosis in patients with CRC. In vitro experiments suggested that the knockdown of SEZ6L2 inhibits CRC cell growth and colony formation, but it has no significant impact on the invasion. The antitumour effects of shSEZ6L2 were also confirmed by a xenograft model. Investigations of the mechanisms indicated that the knockdown of SEZ6L2 impairs the growth of the CRC cells by inducing caspase-dependent apoptosis, which was mediated by mitochondria-related proteins. BACKGROUND TR-PPCI for STEMI is underutilized in the United States due to concerns about prolonging D2BT. Whether operators and hospitals adopting a radial first approach in STEMI incur prolonged D2BT is unknown. METHODS In 1,272 consecutive cases of STEMI with PPCI at our hospital from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2016, we studied TR-PPCI adoption and its association with D2BT including a propensity matched analysis of similar risk TR-PPCI and trans-femoral primary PCI (TF-PPCI) patients. RESULTS With major increases in hospital-level TR-PPCI (hospital TR-PPCI rate 2.6% in 2011 to 79.4% in 2016, p-trend less then .001) and operator-level TR-PPCI (mean operator TR-PPCI rate 2.9% in 2011 to 81.1% in 2016, p-trend = .005), median hospital level D2BT decreased from 102 min [81, 142] in 2011 to 84 min [60, 105] in 2016 (p-trend less then .001). TF crossover (10.3%; n = 57) was not associated with unadjusted D2BT (TR-PPCI success 91 min [72, 112] vs. TF crossover 99 min [70, 115], p = .432) or D2BT adjusted for study year and presenting location (7.2% longer D2BT with TF crossover, 95% CI -4.0% to +18.5%, p = .208). Among 273 propensity-matched pairs, unadjusted D2BT (TR-PPCI 98 [78, 117] min vs. TF-PPCI 101 [76, 132] min, p = .304), and D2BT adjusted for study year and presenting location (5.0% shorter D2BT with TR-PPCI, 95% CI -12.4% to +2.4%, p = .188) were similar. While 3D organoids recapitulate normal epithelial renewal, proliferation, and differentiation, non-cell autonomous reactive epithelial changes under inflammatory conditions are evaluated in the absence of the inflammatory milieu. Reactive epithelial changes are reconstituted upon exposure to exogenous recombinant cytokines. These changes are modulated pharmacologically or genetically ex vivo. Molecular, structural, and functional changes are characterized by morphology, flow cytometry, biochemistry, and gene expression analyses. BACKGROUND TR-PPCI for STEMI is underutilized in the United States due to concerns about prolonging D2BT. Whether operators and hospitals adopting a radial first approach in STEMI incur prolonged D2BT is unknown. METHODS In 1,272 consecutive cases of STEMI with PPCI at our hospital from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2016, we studied TR-PPCI adoption and its association with D2BT including a propensity matched analysis of similar risk TR-PPCI and trans-femoral primary PCI (TF-PPCI) patients. RESULTS With major increases in hospital-level TR-PPCI (hospital TR-PPCI rate 2.6% in 2011 to 79.4% in 2016, p-trend less then .001) and operator-level TR-PPCI (mean operator TR-PPCI rate 2.9% in 2011 to 81.1% in 2016, p-trend = .005), median hospital level D2BT decreased from 102 min [81, 142] in 2011 to 84 min [60, 105] in 2016 (p-trend less then .001). TF crossover (10.3%; n = 57) was not associated with unadjusted D2BT (TR-PPCI success 91 min [72, 112] vs. TF crossover 99 min [70, 115], p = .432) or D2BT adjusted for study year and presenting location (7.2% longer D2BT with TF crossover, 95% CI -4.0% to +18.5%, p = .208). Among 273 propensity-matched pairs, unadjusted D2BT (TR-PPCI 98 [78, 117] min vs. TF-PPCI 101 [76, 132] min, p = .304), and D2BT adjusted for study year and presenting location (5.0% shorter D2BT with TR-PPCI, 95% CI -12.4% to +2.4%, p = .188) were similar.
