Iran is one of the earliest countries involved with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. In the present short report, we have presented our experiences as a cardiovascular tertiary center during the COVID-19 outbreak. At the beginning, we have pursued our activities in four field of administrative, preventative, therapeutic, and research. Then by gaining new experiences, we have tailored our strategies. Finally, we have described our challenges and future strategies on returning to normal activities.Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve is infrequently associated with left heart anomalies. The association of aortic stenosis in Ebstein's anomaly has been reported to be extremely rare and the association of coarctation of aorta is even rarer especially in adults. The combination of all three of these lesions is virtually unknown without any references in literature. We report here an unusual case of Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve and severe aortic stenosis with coarctation of aorta in an adult who presented to us with exertional dyspnoea in the third decade and underwent a successful single-stage intracardiac repair.

A comprehensive electronic search was done using PubMed, Ovid, SCOPUS, Embase and google scholar from inception to July 2020. Articles were included if they discussed factors affecting outcomes in coronary bypass grafting (CABG). Case reports, expert opinion, and editorials were excluded.
There are many factors that influence and predict outcomes following coronary artery bypass surgery. Age, diabetes, and isolated systolic hypertension were preoperative factors with strong correlation to mortality and morbidity rates post CABG. In addition to these, the degree of renal failure and heart failure correlated with poorer operative results. The use of the left internal mammary artery has transformed outcomes and has proven advantage over venous conduit use. Newer minimal invasive techniques have the potential to further optimize outcomes.

Tracking longitudinal biomarkers as a way to identify early disease onset may help to reduce mortality from diseases like ovarian cancer that are more treatable if detected early. Two disease risk prediction frameworks, the shared random effects model (SREM) and the pattern mixture model (PMM) could be used to assess longitudinal biomarkers on disease early detection. In this article, we studied the discrimination and calibration performances of SREM and PMM on disease early detection through an application to ovarian cancer, where early detection using the risk of ovarian cancer algorithm (ROCA) has been evaluated. Comparisons of the above three approaches were performed via analyses of the ovarian cancer data from the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial. Discrimination was evaluated by the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve and its area, while calibration was assessed using calibration plot and the ratio of observed to expected number of diseased subjects. The out-of-sample performances were calculated via using leave-one-out cross-validation, aiming to minimize potential model overfitting. A careful analysis of using the biomarker cancer antigen 125 for ovarian cancer early detection showed significantly improved discrimination performance of PMM as compared with SREM and ROCA, nevertheless all approaches were generally well calibrated. Robustness of all approaches was further investigated in extensive simulation studies. The improved performance of PMM relative to ROCA is in part due to the fact that the biomarker measurements were taken at a yearly interval, which is not frequent enough to reliably estimate the changepoint or the slope after changepoint in cases under ROCA.
We present a complication following the deployment of the MANTA vascular closure device (VCD) following a transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedure which resulted in occlusion of the common femoral artery.
To address possible complications associated with MANTA VCD.
This was addressed by ballooning the site from the contralateral side which re-established flow.
We believe this is the first report to address this kind of complication and may prove useful as more of the MANTA devices are being used in multiple procedures.

The actual time to determine a final "best" design can take several hours or days, depending on the number of scenarios that are examined. The computational cost increases as the kernel of the one-parameter CRM design is expanded to other settings, including additional parameters, monitoring of both toxicity and efficacy, and studies of combinations of two agents. For a given vector of true DLT probabilities, we have developed an approach that replaces a simulation study of thousands of hypothetical trials with a single simulation. Our approach, which is founded on the consistency of the CRM, very accurately reflects the results produced by the simulation study, but does so in a fraction of time required by the simulation study.

Low ocular perfusion pressure (OPP) may increase the risk of optic neuropathy. This study investigated the effects of OPP on the ganglion cell complex (GCC) and optic nerve head-retinal nerve fibre layer (ONH-RNFL) thickness in presumed systemic hypotensives (PSH). Fifteen participants with PSH and 14 controls underwent automated sphygmomanometry and Icare tonometry to calculate OPP mean OPP (MOPP), systolic OPP (SOPP), and diastolic OPP (DOPP). ONH-RNFL and macula GCC thickness were evaluated using the Optovue iVue optical coherence tomographer. Statistical analysis comprised independent t-tests, the Mann-Whitney U test and binary logistic regression analysis. There was no significant difference when comparing ONH-RNFL and macula GCC thickness between both groups. Increased MOPP (OR = 0.51; 95% CI 0.27-0.97; p = 0.039) and SOPP (OR = 0.79; 95% CI 0.64-0.98; p = 0.035) were significantly associated with a decreased risk of reductions in GCC total thickness. Increased SOPP (OR = 0.11; 95% CI 0.01-0.89; p = 0.027) was significantly associated with a decreased risk of reductions in the average ONH-RNFL thickness. The study found no significant retinal thickness changes in PSH's, in comparison to the controls. The study established that, by increasing MOPP and SOPP, there was a decreased risk of reductions in the total GCC thickness and average ONH-RNFL thickness. Higher SOPP may decrease the possibility of retinal thinning of the GCC and ONH-RNFL. However, higher MOPP may decrease the odds of thinning of the GCC before ONH-RNFL changes.Rabies is a fatal viral infection that causes enc ephalitis in warm-blooded animals, including humans. In this case report, we describe a rabies case in a white-tailed deer in the Santo Domingo ranch, in Catazajá, Chiapas, Mexico, where white-tailed deer are kept under captivity, and are meant for human consumption. This is the first report of a rabies case in white-tailed deer in Mexico. We also describe the challenges to obtain a rabies diagnosis and the lack of public health policies to ensure containment of the disease, as well as the lack of awareness among farmers in the area. One single confirmed case of rabies indicates that more animals are affected by the disease. The risk for human health and economical losses will remain unknown until rabies tests are routinely performed in animals that present neurological symptoms.Brucellosis is an important zoonosis occurring globally. In addition to the risk for disease in humans, the disease causes production losses, since the disease in livestock is characterized by abortion and other reproductive failures. The disease is a public health concern in China, but no information is available on knowledge, perception and awareness of potential risk groups such as farmers, butchers and animal health workers; yet successful control requires compliance of those affected groups to be effective. Following the principles of the Ecohealth approach, emphasis was given to participation of all relevant stakeholders, use of qualitative and quantitative tools, and cross-sectorial collaboration. Data collection included on-farm questionnaires (N = 192) and collection of bulk milk samples of goat (N = 40), cattle (N = 45) and buffalo (N = 41) from farms, as well as serum samples (N = 228) from humans. Milk samples were tested with an ELISA for presence of antibodies, while a serum agglutination test wudy demonstrates the presence of brucellosis in livestock and humans in Yunnan, indicating a non-negligible risk for humans. It is also made apparent that there is a need for increased awareness among both farmers and professionals in order to reduce the risk of zoonotic transmissions.Infantile hemangiomas are common benign vascular tumors but are rarely found in an intracranial location. Our literature review identified 41 reported cases. There is no general consensus on management of these rare lesions and until recently, treatment was limited to surgery or pharmacological management with steroids or interferon. Although beta-blockers have been widely prescribed in the treatment of cutaneous infantile hemangiomas since 2008, their use in the treatment of intracranial infantile hemangiomas has been minimal. We present a case of infantile hemangioma affecting the right orbit, associated with intracranial extension, causing intermittent right facial nerve palsy. The patient achieved an excellent outcome following combined treatment with oral propranolol and topical timolol maleate 0.5%, with complete regression of the lesion by 4 months. We conclude that beta-blockers are a safe and effective treatment of intracranial infantile hemangiomas and can be employed as first-line management of these lesions.Several research groups have explored the repositioning of human immunodeficiency virus aspartyl peptidase inhibitors (HIV-PIs) on opportunistic infections caused by bacteria, fungi and protozoa. In Trypanosoma cruzi, HIV-PIs have a high impact on parasite viability, and one of the main alterations promoted by this treatment is the imbalance in the parasite's lipid metabolism. However, the reasons behind this phenomenon are unknown. In the present work, we observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) that the treatment of T. cruzi epimastigotes with the HIV-PIs lopinavir and nelfinavir induced a huge accumulation of crystalloid-shaped lipids within the reservosomes, most of them deforming these key organelles. As previously reported, those structures are characteristic of lipid inclusions formed mostly of cholesterol and cholesterol-esters. The fractionation of nontreated epimastigotes generated two distinct fractions enriched in reservosomes one mostly composed of lipid inclusion-containing reservosomes (Fraction B1) and one where lipid inclusions were **** less abundant (Fraction B2). Interestingly, the extract of Fraction B2 presented enzymatic activity related to aspartyl-type peptidases 3.5 times higher than that found in the extract obtained from Fraction B1. The cleavage of cathepsin D substrate by this class of peptidases was strongly impaired by pepstatin A, a prototypical aspartyl PI, and the HIV-PIs lopinavir and nelfinavir. For efficacy, the majority of providers noted increases in their knowledge due to AR-IMPACT (89.6 percent). Like reach, adoption was also extensive; approximately 42 percent of AR-IMPACT participants attended more than one conference, and close to 56 percent of participants noted no barriers to adopting the changes discussed in the conferences. With implementation, the time requirements for developing a case conference ranged from 2 to 4 hours, and the cost per CE credit was $137, which is on par with other programs.

Examine the relationship between prescription opioid analgesic use during pregnancy and preterm birth or term low birthweight.
We analyzed data from the National Birth Defects Prevention Study, a US multisite, population-based study, for births from 1997 to 2011. We defined exposure as self-reported prescription opioid use between one month before conception and the end of pregnancy, and we dichotomized opioid use duration by ≤7 days and >7 days.
We examined the association between opioid use and preterm birth (defined as gestational age <37 weeks) and term low birthweight (defined as <2500 g at gestational age ≥37 weeks).

Preterm birth occurred more frequently among infants of women reporting prescription opioid use during pregnancy. While many go on to recover from such disorders, certainly, there will be individuals in palliative care (PC) at some point who still suffer with OUD. One of the major barriers to PC for individuals recovering and currently suffering from an OUD is the stigma related to having an OUD. Therefore, in the context of PC, it is important to understand the relationship that exists between PC, OUDs, and how stereo-types related to substance use disorders affect patient engagement in PC. For this paper, the focus will be on how stereotypes affect pain management in PC for persons with an OUD. A review of current literature regarding OUDs and pain management indicates a need for care specific to the needs of those in PC who formerly and/or currently suffer from an OUD in order to avoid relapse or worsening of their affliction while still managing their pain. The striking lack of knowledge and resources regarding OUDs and their treatment indicates a need to strengthen/increase resources for physicians to educate on treating OUDs as well as alternatives for pain management. This article presents dignity-enhancing care as a gateway to fairly treat individuals with an OUD and to get rid of the stigma associated with OUD patients.

The highest frequency for comorbidities associated with opioid-related hospitalizations (ORHs) included infections, chronic bodily pain, and malnutrition. There was a higher proportion of 18-35-year-olds who used SEPs as compared to hospitals and a higher proportion of individuals aged 36 years or older who used hospitals as compared to using SEPs. Of the nearly 100 zip codes in Clark County, six showed a disproportionally high frequency of ORHs, and three comprised the majority of injection drug use.

While this problem is well known to the public due to significant media and political attention, patients are poorly educated on the proper handling and disposal of unused opioids. Instead, the onus has fallen on the healthcare provider to minimize the number of opioids prescribed.

We performed a prospective study evaluating baseline understanding of medication disposal using a questionnaire given to the patients during their preoperative visit. Subsequently, patients were provided written information on proper disposal of their medications and an activated charcoal medication disposal bag. Study patients completed a survey about disposal of their unused opioids at their last post-operative visit. The success of education and proper disposal of opioid medications were evaluated.
Thirty-five patients, average age of 45 (range 20-77), were enrolled, and 31 patients successfully completed both surveys.
For efficacy, the majority of providers noted increases in their knowledge due to AR-IMPACT (89.6 percent). While many go on to recover from such disorders, certainly, there will be individuals in palliative care (PC) at some point who still suffer with OUD. One of the major barriers to PC for individuals recovering and currently suffering from an OUD is the stigma related to having an OUD. Therefore, in the context of PC, it is important to understand the relationship that exists between PC, OUDs, and how stereo-types related to substance use disorders affect patient engagement in PC. For this paper, the focus will be on how stereotypes affect pain management in PC for persons with an OUD. A review of current literature regarding OUDs and pain management indicates a need for care specific to the needs of those in PC who formerly and/or currently suffer from an OUD in order to avoid relapse or worsening of their affliction while still managing their pain. The striking lack of knowledge and resources regarding OUDs and their treatment indicates a need to strengthen/increase resources for physicians to educate on treating OUDs as well as alternatives for pain management. Orthopaedic literature on hip arthroscopy has become more robust primarily from the advent and transformation in the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome from an open surgical dislocation to an ambulatory arthroscopic procedure. Numerous studies have reviewed the frequency of authors and subjects in particular areas of arthroscopy, but until this article, none had been performed on the most influential in hip arthroscopy. The question to be answered is, Do such studies contribute significantly to our knowledge by suggesting future topics to clinicians and training programs? The viscoelastic properties of suture may impact how soft tissue (such as the shoulder rotator cuff tendons) heals to bone and therefore may impact patient outcomes. Thus, it is logical to use suture material less likely to creep and elongate. Suture tape, in particular, may show superior biomechanical properties compared with standard sutures. However, in cadaveric studies, failure generally occurs at the tissue interface, rather than the suture material (or anchor). Thus, the quality and thickness of local tissue must be taken into consideration when determining postoperative rehabilitation or return to activity. Clinical outcome studies comparing suture materials remain elusive, but there is little reason not to use stronger suture material, and this is an option within the surgeon's control. Latarjet technique via open or arthroscopic approach is a very complex surgery that includes several steps. The coracoid placement that is performed at the end of this procedure represents the key point to avoid complications and attain the best clinical results. Mechanics and biology need to work as a whole to improve the integration of the graft on the glenoid neck. Superior capsular reconstruction remains a controversial procedure, and long-term results still need to be established. Graft thickness seems crucial and fascia lata appears superior to dermal allograft. Using a subacromial spacer by suturing dermal allograft to the subacromial bone "increases graft thickness" and reduces superior humeral head migration but increases subacromial pressures in a static laboratory cadaver model. It remains to be seen whether clinical studies support this concept. Risk factors of failure after arthroscopic posterior shoulder stabilization are not well understood. Careful attention to anatomy may be the key to helping patients understand their risk of failure after surgery. Posterior stabilization may be even more sensitive to small amounts of bone loss than is anterior stabilization. As failure rates after arthroscopic rotator cuff remain high, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained interest as a potential biological augmentation to enhance bone-tendon healing. Recent research shows that delayed PRP application fails to significantly improve clinical results or decrease retear rates but may result in less fatty-infiltration of the repaired rotator cuff muscles. Most of the existing methods based on the feedback control and feedforward compensation cannot guarantee optimal output. Unlike the existing methods, the proposed method extends the estimated disturbance and output variables into the state variables, forming a multivariable non-minimum state space (MNMSS) prediction model, and then uses the rolling optimization principle in predictive control to design the controller based on the formed prediction model. The main advantages of the proposed method are that the state can be guaranteed to be available to the MNMSS model and the optimal control performance and anti-disturbance ability of system can be obtained by the designed controller. The proposed MNMSSPC-D method is verified by the simulation with a heavy oil fractionator. In this paper, a new robust adaptive estimation approach is designed for the inverted pendulum. The estimation scheme is composed by an auxiliary high gain observer in cascade with an adaptive sliding mode observer. The auxiliary high gain observer is designed to estimate auxiliary outputs in order to solve the dissatisfaction of observer matching condition related to the presence of disturbances. Then, using the estimated auxiliary outputs, the adaptive sliding mode observer is synthesized to estimate conjointly the states, the unknown parameter (the pendulum mass which appears nonlinearly in the dynamics of the pendulum model) and the unknown disturbances. The stability analysis is established using the Lyapunov approach. Numerical simulations are carried out to validate theoretical results. Furthermore, experimental tests are realized using a real pendulum setup (a product of Feedback Instruments) to highlight the good performances of the proposed estimation method in practice.

There is little data describing trends in the use of hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 following publication of randomized trials that failed to demonstrate a benefit of this therapy. We identified 13,957 patients admitted for active COVID-19 at 85 U.S. hospitals participating in a national registry between March 1 and August 31, 2020. The overall proportion of patients receiving hydroxychloroquine peaked at 55.2% in March and April and decreased to 4.8% in May and June and 0.8% in July and August. At the hospital-level, median use was 59.4% in March and April (IQR 48.5-71.5%, range 0-100%) and decreased to 0.3% (IQR 0-5.4%, range 0-100%) by May and June and 0% (IQR 0-1.3%, range 0-36.4%) by July and August. The rate and hospital-level uniformity in deimplementation of this ineffective therapy for COVID-19 reflects a rapid response to evolving clinical information and further study may offer strategies to inform deimplementation of ineffective clinical care.Magnetic nanorobots (MNRs) based on paramagnetic nanoparticles/nanoclusters for the targeted therapeutics of anticancer drugs have been highlighted for their efficiency potential. Here, we present a method for controlling paramagnetic nanoclusters through enhanced tumbling and disaggregation motions with a combination of rotating field and gradient field generated by external electromagnets. The mechanism is carried out via an electromagnetic actuation system capable of generating MNR motions with five degrees of freedom in a spherical workspace without singularity. The nanocluster swarm structures can successfully pass through channels to the target region where they can disaggregate. In vivo experiments employed simultaneous PET/MRI of Raji-bearing NSG **** on day 0 (3 h), 1, 2, and 5 after intravenous administration of low (1.87 ± 0.04 × 106 cells), middle (7.14 ± 0.45 × 106 cells), or high (16.83 ± 0.41 × 106 cells) cell dose. Biodistribution (%ID/g) in regions of interests defined over T1-weighted MRI, such as blood, bone, brain, liver, lungs, spleen, and tumor, were analyzed from PET images. Escalating doses of CAR T-cells resulted in dose-dependent %ID/g biodistributions in all regions. Middle and High dose groups showed significantly higher tumor %ID/g compared to Low dose group on day 2. Tumor-to-blood ratios showed the enhanced extravascular tumor uptake by day 2 in the Low dose group, while the Middle dose showed significant tumor accumulation starting on day 1 up to day 5. From these data obtained over time, it is apparent that intravenously administered CAR T-cells become trapped in the lung for 3-5 h and then migrate to the liver and spleen for up to 2-3 days. Here, we report a protective role of ERRα in the intestine. We found that **** deficient in ERRα were susceptible to experimental colitis, exhibiting increased colon inflammation and tissue damage. This phenotype was mediated by impaired compensatory proliferation of intestinal epithelial cells (IEC) following injury, enhanced IEC apoptosis and necrosis and reduced mucus-producing goblet cell counts. Longitudinal analysis of the microbiota demonstrated that loss of ERRα lead to a reduction in microbiome α-diversity and depletion of healthy gut bacterial constituents. Mechanistically, ERRα mediated its protective effects by acting within the radio-resistant compartment of the intestine. It promoted disease tolerance through transcriptional control of key genes involved in intestinal tissue homeostasis and repair. These findings provide new insights on the role of ERRα in the gut and extends our current knowledge of nuclear receptors implicated in IBD.In this work, the optical properties of asymmetric nanoshells with different geometries are comprehensively investigated in the quasi-static regime by applying the dipolar model and effective medium theory. The plasmonic behaviors of these nanostructures are explained by the plasmon hybridization model. Asymmetric hybrid nanoshells, composed of off-center core or nanorod core surrounded by a spherical metallic shell layer possess highly geometrically tunable optical resonances in the near-infrared regime. The plasmon modes of this nanostructures arise from the hybridization of the cavity and solid plasmon modes at the inner and outer surfaces of the shell. The results reveal that the symmetry breaking drastically affects the strength of hybridization between plasmon modes, which ultimately affects the absorption spectrum by altering the number of resonance modes, their wavelengths and absorption efficiencies. Therefore, offsetting the spherical core as well as changing the internal geometry of the nanoparticle to nanorod not only shift the resonance frequencies but can also strongly modify the relative magnitudes of the absorption efficiencies.

Biodistribution (%ID/g) in regions of interests defined over T1-weighted MRI, such as blood, bone, brain, liver, lungs, spleen, and tumor, were analyzed from PET images. Escalating doses of CAR T-cells resulted in dose-dependent %ID/g biodistributions in all regions. Middle and High dose groups showed significantly higher tumor %ID/g compared to Low dose group on day 2. From these data obtained over time, it is apparent that intravenously administered CAR T-cells become trapped in the lung for 3-5 h and then migrate to the liver and spleen for up to 2-3 days. This phenotype was mediated by impaired compensatory proliferation of intestinal epithelial cells (IEC) following injury, enhanced IEC apoptosis and necrosis and reduced mucus-producing goblet cell counts. Longitudinal analysis of the microbiota demonstrated that loss of ERRα lead to a reduction in microbiome α-diversity and depletion of healthy gut bacterial constituents. The results reveal that the symmetry breaking drastically affects the strength of hybridization between plasmon modes, which ultimately affects the absorption spectrum by altering the number of resonance modes, their wavelengths and absorption efficiencies. After hemostasis was achieved, and in the setting of an international normalized ratio of 1.2, the clinical team requested 4 additional units of plasma because "the patient was not resuscitated with a 11 ratio of RBCs to plasma." This case illustrates that misconceptions surrounding resuscitation with conventional components may lead to unnecessary transfusions in patients with normal laboratory values who have achieved hemostasis. CONCLUSIONS This report provides clarification as to how conventional components can be used for trauma resuscitation and why there is no need to transfuse additional plasma-containing components to achieve a desired ratio when the patient is no longer bleeding and laboratory values are within normal limits. In addition, panobinostat increased exon 7 retention in the SMN2 mRNA. In a comment on our article ''Role of Ultra-widefield Imaging in Eales' Disease A Case Series", the author asserts that Widefield fluorescein angiography (FA) detected significantly more number of active vasculitis as compared to Optos in our study which is not in line with our conclusion. We agree that Widefield FA is the gold standard for detecting activity in uveitic eye, and in fact, we have mentioned that 'FA was considered the gold standard for diagnosing active vasculitis and clinical examination and Optos findings were compared to FA' in our Materials and methods section.
Studies investigating the safety of hormone replacement therapy in cervical cancer have predominantly included patients with squamous disease. Pathological studies have identified estrogen receptor positivity in cervical adenocarcinomas. A recent small case-control study suggested a trend towards reduced survival with hormone replacement therapy in cervical adenocarcinomas. Unlike central nervous or gastrointestinal system involvement in hemolytic uremic syndrome which manifests clinically, muscle involvement may not and, if present, may worsen the existing acute kidney injury and may worsen disease prognosis. Considering the high morbidity and mortality in acute phase of hemolytic uremic syndrome, prompt evaluation to know the extent of extrarenal organ involvement at the earliest is important for management and prognosis of these patients.On the basis of the principal components analysis-particle swarm optimization-least squares support vector machine (PCA-PSO-LSSVM) algorithm, a fault diagnosis system is proposed for the compressor system. The relationship between the working principle of a compressor system, the fault phenomenon, and the root cause is analyzed. A fault diagnosis model is established based on the LSSVM optimized using PSO, the compressor fault diagnosis test experimental platform is used to obtain the fault signal of various fault occurrence states, and the PCA algorithm is employed to extract the characteristic data in the fault signal as input to the fault diagnosis model. The ****-propagation neural network, the LSSVM algorithm, and the PSO-LSSVM algorithm are analyzed and compared with the proposed fault diagnosis model. Results show that the PCA-PSO-LSSVM fault diagnosis model has a maximum fault recognition efficiency that is 10.4% higher than the other three models, the test sample classification time is reduced by 0.025 s, the PCA algorithm can effectively reduce the input dimension, and the PSO-LSSVM fault diagnosis model based on the PCA algorithm for extracting features has a high recognition rate and accuracy. Therefore, the proposed fault diagnosis system can effectively identify the compressor fault and improve the efficiency of the compressor.

The objective of this review is to address the barriers limiting access to diagnosis and treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus nephritis (LN) in Brazil, specifically for patients in the public healthcare system, arguably those with the least access to innovation.
A selected panel of Brazilian experts in SLE/LN were provided with a series of relevant questions to address in a multi-day conference. During the conference, responses were discussed and edited by the entire group through numerous drafts and rounds of discussion until a consensus was achieved.
The authors propose specific and realistic recommendations for implementing access to innovative diagnostic tools and treatment alternatives for SLE/LN in Brazil. Moreover, in creating these recommendations, the authors strived to address barriers and impediments for technology adoption. The multidisciplinary care required for SLE/LN necessitates the collective participation of all involved stakeholders.
A great need exists to expand the adoption of innovative diagnostic tools and treatments for SLE/LN not only in Brazil but also in most countries, as access issues remain an urgent demand. The recommendations presented in this article can serve as a strategy for new technology adoption in other countries in a similar situation.

During the conference, responses were discussed and edited by the entire group through numerous drafts and rounds of discussion until a consensus was achieved. The authors propose specific and realistic recommendations for implementing access to innovative diagnostic tools and treatment alternatives for SLE/LN in Brazil. Moreover, in creating these recommendations, the authors strived to address barriers and impediments for technology adoption. The multidisciplinary care required for SLE/LN necessitates the collective participation of all involved stakeholders. A great need exists to expand the adoption of innovative diagnostic tools and treatments for SLE/LN not only in Brazil but also in most countries, as access issues remain an urgent demand. Possible effects of tVNS on physiological parameters and general side effects were recorded. In addition, we report the rate of recovery using coma recovery scale revised (CRS-R). RESULTS The tVNS regime of four hours daily for eight weeks was feasible and well tolerated with little side effects and no clinically relevant effects on physiological parameters. Three patients showed improvements (>3 points) in the CRS-R following eight weeks tVNS. CONCLUSION We demonstrated that tVNS is a feasible and safe VNS strategy for patients following severe TBI. Under natural conditions, the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons at concentrations higher than 126 μg kg-1 and 5557 μg kg-1 was not conducive to the microbial degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and alkanes, respectively. These results can be used as a reference for an enhanced bioremediation of contaminated groundwater. The study confirmed that the addition of pinecone-biochar and the coexistence of indigenous microorganisms can effectively reduce the bioavailability of heavy metals. Among the heavy metals, As(III) can be oxidized to As(V) and then stabilized, and other heavy metals can be stabilized in a complex and chelated state characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The application of Fe3O4@EPS on sustained acceleration of MO decolorization were confirmed by batch experiments and anaerobic sequenced batch reactors. Due to biocompatibility of the biogenic shell, the as-prepared Fe3O4@EPS exhibited low toxic to microorganisms by the Live/dead cell test. Moreover, negligible leaching of EPS under high concentration of various anions and less than 10% of EPS was released under extreme acidic and basic pH condition. The results of study provided a new preparation method of biological intimate and environmentally friendly redox mediators and suggested a feasible way for its use on bio-reduction of pollutants.Imaging an adsorption reaction taking place at the single-particle level is a promising avenue for fundamentally understanding the adsorption mechanism. Here, we employ a dark-field microscopy (DFM) method for in situ imaging the adsorption process of I- on single Cu2O microparticles to reveal the acid activation mechanism. Using the time-lapsed DMF imaging, we find that a relatively strong acid is indispensable to trigger the adsorption reaction of I- on single Cu2O microparticle. A hollow microparticle with the increase in size is obtained after the adsorption reaction, causing the enhancement of the scattering intensity. Correlating the change of the scattering light intensity or particle size with adsorption capacity of I-, we quantitatively analyze the selective uptake, slightly heterogeneous adsorption behavior, pH/temperature-dependent adsorption capacity, and adsorption kinetics as well as isotherms of individual Cu2O microparticles for I-. Our observations demonstrate that the acid-initiated Kirkendall effect is responsible for the high-reaction activity of single Cu2O microparticles for adsorption of I- in the acidic environment, through breaking the unfavorable lattice energy between Cu2O and CuI as well as generating high-active hollow intermediate microparticle.

The results of study provided a new preparation method of biological intimate and environmentally friendly redox mediators and suggested a feasible way for its use on bio-reduction of pollutants.Imaging an adsorption reaction taking place at the single-particle level is a promising avenue for fundamentally understanding the adsorption mechanism. Here, we employ a dark-field microscopy (DFM) method for in situ imaging the adsorption process of I- on single Cu2O microparticles to reveal the acid activation mechanism. Using the time-lapsed DMF imaging, we find that a relatively strong acid is indispensable to trigger the adsorption reaction of I- on single Cu2O microparticle. A hollow microparticle with the increase in size is obtained after the adsorption reaction, causing the enhancement of the scattering intensity. Correlating the change of the scattering light intensity or particle size with adsorption capacity of I-, we quantitatively analyze the selective uptake, slightly heterogeneous adsorption behavior, pH/temperature-dependent adsorption capacity, and adsorption kinetics as well as isotherms of individual Cu2O microparticles for I-. These factors increase the prevalence and incidence of obesity and sarcopenia, which have unclear effects on bone mineral density. The purpose of this study was to determine how the above selected factors affect BMD. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 58 women (aged 62.1 ± 4.8 years). Total body, left proximal femur, lumbar spine BMD, and body composition parameters were measured with dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Isokinetic flexion and extension strength of the dominant leg were measured at 60 deg./s. Grip strength was measured with the dominant upper extremity. To determine the volume of physical activity (PA), the PA level was monitored for seven consecutive days using an ActiGraph model GT1M accelerometer. Results BFM was positively associated with BMD of the proximal femur (β = 0.31; P less then 0.05), whereas LBM or appendicular lean mass (ALM) did not relate to BMD at any sites. Dominant isokinetic strength also did not relate to BMD at any site. A/G (android/gynoid) fat ratio shows positive association with lumbar spine BMD after adjusting for YSM (years since menopause), height, smoking status, and steps per day. Conclusion We observed a positive association between proximal femur BMD and BFM, but not between LBM, ALM or isokinetic strength. This paper proposes a validation method of the fabrication technology of a screen-printed electronic skin based on polyvinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene P(VDF-TrFE) piezoelectric polymer sensors. This required researchers to insure, through non-direct sensor characterization, that printed sensors were working as expected. For that, we adapted an existing model to non-destructively extract sensor behavior in pure compression (i.e., the d33 piezocoefficient) by indentation tests over the skin surface. Different skin patches, designed to sensorize a glove and a prosthetic hand (11 skin patches, 104 sensors), have been tested. Reproducibility of the sensor response and its dependence upon sensor position on the fabrication substrate were examined, highlighting the drawbacks of employing large A3-sized substrates. The average value of d33 for all sensors was measured at incremental preloads (1-3 N). A systematic decrease has been checked for patches located at positions not affected by substrate shrinkage. https://www.selleckchem.com/pharmacological_epigenetics.html In turn, sensor reproducibility and d33 adherence to literature values validated the e-skin fabrication technology. We approximated linear WLS errors via second-order Taylor approximation, and further approximated the error covariance matrix using a least-squares solution and the variance in measurement noise over the sensor nodes. The algorithm does not require any prior knowledge of the true target position or noise variance. Simulations validated the superior performance of our new method.During human-robot collaborations (HRC), robot systems must accurately perceive the actions and intentions of humans. The present study proposes the classification of standing postures from standing-pressure images, by which a robot system can predict the intended actions of human workers in an HRC environment. To this end, it explores deep learning based on standing-posture recognition and a multi-recognition algorithm fusion method for HRC. To acquire the pressure-distribution data, ten experimental participants stood on a pressure-sensing floor embedded with thin-film pressure sensors. The pressure data of nine standing postures were obtained from each participant. The human standing postures were discriminated by seven classification algorithms. The results of the best three algorithms were fused using the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory to improve the accuracy and robustness. In a cross-validation test, the best method achieved an average accuracy of 99.96%. The convolutional neural network classifier and data-fusion algorithm can feasibly classify the standing postures of human workers.In recent years, close attention has been paid to microbial flocculants because of their advantages, including safety to humans, environmental friendliness, and acceptable removal performances. In this review, the preparation methods of microbial flocculants were first reviewed. Then, the performances of bioflocculants in the removal of suspended solids, heavy metals, and other organic pollutants from various types of wastewater were described and commented, and the removal mechanisms, including adsorption bridging, charge neutralization, chemical reactions, and charge neutrality, were also discussed. The future research needs on microbial flocculants were also proposed. This review would lead to a better understanding of current status, challenges, and corresponding strategies on microbial flocculants and bioflocculation in wastewater treatment.The shortage of natural aggregates has recently emerged as a serious problem owing to the tremendous growth of the concrete industry. Consequently, the social interest in identifying aggregate materials as alternatives to natural aggregates has increased. In South Korea's growing steel industry, a large amount of steel **** is generated and discarded every year, thereby causing environmental pollution. In previous studies, steel ****, such as blast furnace **** (BFS), has been used as substitutes for concrete aggregates; however, few studies have been conducted on concrete containing both BFS and Ferronickel **** (FNS) as the fine aggregate. In this study, the compressive strength, chloride ion penetrability, and carbonation characteristic of concrete with both FNS and BFS were investigated. The mixed **** fine aggregate (MSFA) was used to replace 0, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the natural fine aggregate volume. From the test results, the highest compressive strength after 56 days was observed for the B/F100 sample. The 56 days chloride ion penetrability of the B/F75, and B/F100 samples with the MSFA contents of 75% and 100% were low level, approximately 34%, and 54% lower than that of the plain sample, respectively. In addition, the carbonation depth of the samples decreased with the increase in replacement ratio of MSFA.Intake of dietary supplements has increased, despite evidence that some of these have adverse side effects and uncertainty about their effectiveness. This systematic review examined the evidence for the cognitive benefits of a wide range of dietary supplements in healthy young adult samples; the aim was to identify if any might be useful for optimising cognitive performance during deployment in military personnel. Searches were conducted in 9 databases and 13 grey literature repositories for relevant studies published between January 2000 and June 2017. Eligible studies recruited healthy young adults (18-35 years), administered a legal dietary supplement, included a comparison control group, and assessed cognitive outcome(s). Thirty-seven of 394 identified studies met inclusion criteria and were included for synthesis. Most research was deemed of low quality (72.97%; SIGN50 guidelines), highlighting the need for sound empirical research in this area. Nonetheless, we suggest that tyrosine or caffeine could be used in healthy young adults in a military context to enhance cognitive performance when personnel are sleep-deprived.
