Main outcome measure Prescribing patterns of psychotropic drugs. Results A total of 1045 prescriptions were examined. The mean age of the patients was 47.3 years (SD = 13.6), two-thirds of the patients (64.5%) were males. Fifty-two percent of the patients were diagnosed with schizophrenia while 15.2% were diagnosed with depression. The later third was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, schizoaffective and anxiety disorders (15.8%, 11.1% and 5.1% respectively). The most commonly prescribed drugs were typical antipsychotics for schizophrenia, bipolar and schizoaffective disorders, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors for depression and tricyclic anti-depressants for anxiety. Polypharmacy was found in 877 prescriptions (84%), and drug-drug interactions (DDIs) were identified in 823 (94%) prescriptions. The DDIs were classified as minor (4, 0.5%), significant (418, 50.8%) and serious (401, 48.7%). Conclusions Our results suggest that the pharmacotherapy of psychiatric disorders in Palestine may not be in accordance to international guidelines and the incidence of polypharmacy and DDIs is high.

  • Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is a human tumorigenic virus and the etiological agent of an endothelial tumor (Kaposi's sarcoma) and two B cell proliferative diseases (primary effusion lymphoma and multicentric Castleman's disease). While in patients with late stage of Kaposi's sarcoma the majority of spindle cells are KSHV-infected, viral copies are rapidly lost in vitro, both upon culture of tumor-derived cells or from newly infected endothelial cells. We addressed this discrepancy by investigating a KSHV-infected endothelial cell line in various culture conditions and in tumors of xenografted ****. We show that, in contrast to two-dimensional endothelial cell cultures, KSHV genomes are maintained under 3D cell culture conditions and in vivo. Additionally, an increased rate of newly infected cells was detected in 3D cell culture. Furthermore, we show that the PI3K/Akt/mTOR and ATM/γH2AX pathways are modulated and support an improved KSHV persistence in 3D cell culture. These mechanisms may contribute to the persistence of KSHV in tumor tissue in vivo and provide a novel target for KS specific therapeutic interventions.     We studied EGFR mutations in circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and explored their role in predicting the progression-free survival (PFS) of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with erlotinib or gefitinib.

    The L858R, T790M mutations and exon 19 deletions were quantified in plasma using digital droplet polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR). The dynamics of ctDNA mutations over time and relationships with PFS were explored.

Patients were randomized (11) to subcutaneous burosumab or to continue conventional therapy. We present patient-reported outcomes (PROs) from this trial for children aged ≥ 5 years at screening (n = 35), using a Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) questionnaire and SF-10 Health Survey for Children. PROMIS pain interference, physical function mobility, and fatigue scores improved from baseline with burosumab at weeks 40 and 64, but changed little with continued conventional therapy. Pain interference scores differed significantly between groups at week 40 (- 5.02, 95% CI - 9.29 to - 0.75; p = 0.0212) but not at week 64. Between-group differences were not significant at either week for physical function mobility or fatigue. Reductions in PROMIS pain interference and fatigue scores from baseline were clinically meaningful with burosumab at weeks 40 and 64 but not with conventional therapy. SF-10 physical health scores (PHS-10) improved significantly with burosumab at week 40 (least-squares mean [standard error] + 5.98 [1.79]; p = 0.0008) and week 64 (+ 5.93 [1.88]; p = 0.0016) but not with conventional therapy (between-treatment differences were nonsignificant).     First time analysis of the epidemiology, management and outcomes of patients with splenic injuries in Switzerland. This study aims to assess the effect of hospital treatment volume on successful non-operative management (NOM) in splenic injuries.

    A multicentric registry-based study including all patients with splenic injuries entered into the Swiss Trauma Registry from 2015 to 2018 was conducted. Patients were stratified according to the hospitals treatment volume of splenic injuries. Primary outcome was the rate of successful NOM.

    During the 4-year study period, 652 patients with splenic injury were included in the study. Median age of the study population was 42 (IQR 27-59) years, and median ISS was 26 (20-34). The overall rate of successful NOM was 86.5%. Median HLOS was 13 (8-21) days. In-hospital mortality was 7.2% (n = 47). The mean number of patients with splenic injuries per center and year was 14. Five out of 12 Level I trauma centers treating more patients than the mean (≥ 15/year) were defined as high-volume centers. Multivariable analysis adjusting for differences in baseline and injury characteristics revealed treatment in a high-volume center as an independent predictor for successful NOM (OR 2.15, 95% CI 1.28-3.60, p = 0.004) and shorter HLOS (RC - 2.39, 95% CI - 4.91/- 0.48, p = 0.017), however, not for reduced in-hospital mortality (OR 0.92, 95% CI 0.39-2.18, p = 0.845).

    Higher hospital treatment volume was associated with a higher rate of NOM and shorter HLOS, but not lower mortality. These results constitute the basis for further quality improvement in the care of splenic injury patients within the trauma system in Switzerland.

  • Three emissive bridged-triphenylamine derivatives are designed and synthesized by incorporating carbon (DQAO), oxygen (OQAO), and sulfur (SQAO) atoms with two carbonyl groups. The fully bridged geometry and unique frontier molecular orbital distribution reveal its potential as narrowband thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters. DQAO-, OQAO-, and SQAO-based organic light-emitting diodes exhibit the maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 15.2%, 20.3%, and 17.8% for blue, green, and yellow, respectively.In lithium-organic batteries, organic cathode materials could dissolve in a liquid electrolyte and diffuse through the porous separator to the active lithium-metal anode, resulting in cycling instability. However, 2,2'-dipyridyl disulfide (PyDS) can be cycled 5 times better than diphenyl disulfide (PDS) although both are soluble. We believe this is related to their reactivity with lithium (Li0). Herein, we investigate the chemical reduction of PyDS by lithiated carbon paper (Li-CP) in ether electrolyte. It is found that only 6.3% of PyDS was reduced by Li-CP after 10 days, unlike PDS. Experimental and computational results show that PyDS molecules are ionized by lithium ions of lithium salts delocalizing the charge on pyridine rings of PyDS, which can momentarily store Li0, thus keeping the S-S bond inert in chemical reaction with Li0. This finding is successfully utilized in a membrane-free redox flow battery with PyDS catholyte, showing long cycle life with high energy density and energy efficiency. This work reveals the interesting charge storage mechanism and the different activity of organodisulfides toward electrochemical reduction and chemical reduction due to the organic groups, which can provide guidance for the design of stable lithium-organic batteries.Methods to activate the relatively stable ether C-O bonds and convert them to other functional groups are desirable. One-electron reduction of ethers is a potentially promising route to cleave the C-O bond. However, owing to the highly negative redox potential of alkyl aryl ethers (Ered less then -2.6 V vs SCE), this mode of ether C-O bond activation is challenging. Herein, we report the visible-light-induced photocatalytic cleavage of the alkyl aryl ether C-O bond using a carbazole-based organic photocatalyst (PC). Both benzylic and non-benzylic aryl ethers underwent C-O bond cleavage to form the corresponding phenol products. Addition of Cs2CO3 was beneficial, especially in reactions using a N-H carbazole PC. The reaction was proposed to occur via single-electron transfer (SET) from the excited-state carbazole to the substrate ether.     Three emissive bridged-triphenylamine derivatives are designed and synthesized by incorporating carbon (DQAO), oxygen (OQAO), and sulfur (SQAO) atoms with two carbonyl groups. The fully bridged geometry and unique frontier molecular orbital distribution reveal its potential as narrowband thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters. DQAO-, OQAO-, and SQAO-based organic light-emitting diodes exhibit the maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 15.2%, 20.3%, and 17.8% for blue, green, and yellow, respectively.In lithium-organic batteries, organic cathode materials could dissolve in a liquid electrolyte and diffuse through the porous separator to the active lithium-metal anode, resulting in cycling instability. However, 2,2'-dipyridyl disulfide (PyDS) can be cycled 5 times better than diphenyl disulfide (PDS) although both are soluble. We believe this is related to their reactivity with lithium (Li0). Herein, we investigate the chemical reduction of PyDS by lithiated carbon paper (Li-CP) in ether electrolyte. It is found that only 6.3% of PyDS was reduced by Li-CP after 10 days, unlike PDS. Experimental and computational results show that PyDS molecules are ionized by lithium ions of lithium salts delocalizing the charge on pyridine rings of PyDS, which can momentarily store Li0, thus keeping the S-S bond inert in chemical reaction with Li0. This finding is successfully utilized in a membrane-free redox flow battery with PyDS catholyte, showing long cycle life with high energy density and energy efficiency.   • Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has emerged as a pandemic leading to unprecedented disruption of global health and economy. Transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2) has been found to be critical in priming the viral spike protein and the host ACE2 receptor before the virus enters into the host cell. Recent studies have experimentally demonstrated that Alpha 1 antitrypsin (encoded by SERPINA1 gene) is an inhibitor of TMPRSS2 and provided support to the already approved therapy as a candidate for COVID-19. Interestingly Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency is common among Europeans. Here we have provided in silico evidence that Alpha 1 antitrypsin can interact with TMPRSS2 and both of them are co-expressed in the human liver and lung. We then analyzed the gnomAD dataset to show that Europeans and Latinos have a substantially higher carrier frequency of Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (~12%) compared to other large ethnicities. Therefore, we hypothesize that Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency might be a risk factor for severe infection with SARS-CoV-2. We propose Alpha 1 antitrypsin status as a potential prognostic predictor of COVID-19 outcome.

The purpose of this study is to validate the VPET screening tool in identifying high-risk youth. Methods and findings We prospectively enrolled a convenience sample of children during the index ED visit who were called 3 months and 6 months after this visit. 269 youth (33%) completed 3-month follow up (44.2% male); 240 youth (29.4%) completed 6-month follow up (45% male); 84.0% reported some level of violence exposure after 3-months and 84.2% (n = 240) reported some level of violence exposure after 6-months. Predictive validity was assessed by Spearman's correlation between VPET score and follow-up score at 3-months and 6-months post-enrollment; logistic regression to calculate odds ratios between positive VPET item responses and positive follow-up score; ROC curve analysis. VPET score had internal consistency, as tested by Cronbach's alpha (α = 0.642). Children who were male, non-white, and had been hurt at home or school reported the highest VPET scores. Conclusion VPET has sufficiently strong psychometric function and performs well as a screening tool to predict future violence exposure for youth ages 8-17. We classified carabid beetle larvae as the most dangerous prey because of their sharp mandibles and predatory habits, followed by scarabeid larvae; lepidopteran and passalids larvae were considered to be non-dangerous prey.   • Remote sensing allows obtaining information on agriculture regularly with non-invasive measurement approaches. Field data is crucial for adequate agricultural monitoring by remote sensing. However, public available field data are scarce, mainly in tropical regions, where agriculture is highly dynamic. The present publication aims to support the reduction of this gap. The LEM+ dataset provides information monthly about 16 land use classes for 1854 fields from October 2019 to September 2020 (one Brazilian agricultural year) from Luís Eduardo Magalhães (LEM) and other municipalities in the west of Bahia state, Brazil. The reference data were collected in two fieldworks (March 2020 - first crop season, and August 2020 - second crop season). The boundaries of the fields visited in situ were delimited using Sentinel-2 false color compositions (near infrared - red - green) at 10 m spatial resolution. The land use classes were labeled monthly based on information collected in situ (agricultural land use and photographs) and by visual interpretation of Sentinel-2 false color composition (near infrared - shortwave infrared - red) and MODIS/Terra (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) time series. The dataset can be useful for the development of new pattern recognition methods for agricultural land use mapping and monitoring, comparison of different classification methods, and optical and SAR remote sensing time series analysis. Shells were cut transversely, obliquely and longitudinally in order to obtain different orientated sections of the outer and inner layer and of the myostraca. The identification of major microstructural elements was provided by detailed SEM and laser confocal microscopy images. Microstructure and texture characterization was based on EBSD measurements presented as band contrast images and as color-coded crystal orientation maps with corresponding pole figures. Crystal co-orientation was measured with the MUD value. Finally, the distribution of the organic matrix occluded within the outer crossed-lamellar layer was revealed using FE-SEM.     Remote sensing allows obtaining information on agriculture regularly with non-invasive measurement approaches. Field data is crucial for adequate agricultural monitoring by remote sensing. However, public available field data are scarce, mainly in tropical regions, where agriculture is highly dynamic. The present publication aims to support the reduction of this gap. The LEM+ dataset provides information monthly about 16 land use classes for 1854 fields from October 2019 to September 2020 (one Brazilian agricultural year) from Luís Eduardo Magalhães (LEM) and other municipalities in the west of Bahia state, Brazil. The reference data were collected in two fieldworks (March 2020 - first crop season, and August 2020 - second crop season). The boundaries of the fields visited in situ were delimited using Sentinel-2 false color compositions (near infrared - red - green) at 10 m spatial resolution. The land use classes were labeled monthly based on information collected in situ (agricultural land use and photographs) and by visual interpretation of Sentinel-2 false color composition (near infrared - shortwave infrared - red) and MODIS/Terra (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) time series. The dataset can be useful for the development of new pattern recognition methods for agricultural land use mapping and monitoring, comparison of different classification methods, and optical and SAR remote sensing time series analysis. Shells were cut transversely, obliquely and longitudinally in order to obtain different orientated sections of the outer and inner layer and of the myostraca. The identification of major microstructural elements was provided by detailed SEM and laser confocal microscopy images. Microstructure and texture characterization was based on EBSD measurements presented as band contrast images and as color-coded crystal orientation maps with corresponding pole figures. Crystal co-orientation was measured with the MUD value. Finally, the distribution of the organic matrix occluded within the outer crossed-lamellar layer was revealed using FE-SEM. The designed nanosystem ([PHC]PP@HA NPs) was constructed by coloading hemoglobin (Hb) and chlorin e6 on polydopamine to build small-sized PHC NPs, which were encapsulated inside the polymer micelles (poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(ethylenimine)) and then capped with functionalized hyaluronic acid. The pH-responsive feature made [PHC]PP@HA NPs retain an initial size of ∼140 nm in blood circulation but rapidly release small PHC NPs (∼10 nm) with a high tumor-penetrating ability in the tumor microenvironment. The in vitro penetration experiment showed that the penetration depth of PHC NPs in the multicellular tumor spheroids exceeded 110 μm. The [PHC]PP@HA NPs exhibited excellent biocompatibility, deep tumor permeability, high photothermal conversion efficiency (47.09%), and low combination index (0.59) under hypoxic conditions. Notably, the nanosystem can freely adjust the release of oxygen and damaging PHC NPs in an on-demand manner on the basis of the feedback of tumor activity. This feedback tumor therapy significantly improved the synergistic effect of PTT/PDT and reduced its toxic side effects. Here, the sliding friction behaviors of amorphous carbon (a-C) films at different simulated temperatures (STs) (300-1300 K) were analyzed by molecular dynamics. The density, average coordination number, and local residual stress as well as the hybridization of sp, sp2, and sp3 of a-C films were analyzed to reveal the high-temperature sliding friction mechanism of a-C films. The results show that the friction coefficient (μ) of a-C films increased with increase in ST. Meanwhile, the friction mechanisms of a-C films are different at an ST lower than 800 K and higher than 1100 K.

    Hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) promotes cancer progression and metastasis by interacting with vascular endothelial growth factor, thereby inducing epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and angiogenesis. Recent studies have correlated increased HDGF levels with poor prognosis in various malignancies, including lung cancer. This meta-analysis systematically assessed the prognostic significance of HDGF expression in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

    Eligible studies were identified by searching literature in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane library until June 2020. The pooled hazard ratio (HR) or odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was determined to assess the relationship between HDGF expression and clinical outcome in patients with NSCLC.

    The pooled HRs between high HDGF expression and clinical outcome were 2.20 (95% CI 1.75-2.76, P < .001) and 2.77 (95% CI 1.79-4.29, P < .001) for overall survival and disease-free survival, respectively. High HDGF expression was significantly correlated with a larger tumor size (OR 1.59, 95% CI 1.02-2.46, P = .040).

    Sciatica is one of the common clinical diseases. Studies have proved the efficacy of Chinese patent medicine (CPM) in the treatment of sciatica, so far, there has not been a complete systematic review of its effectiveness and safety, and the comparative efficacy and safety of CPM have not been ranked. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the efficacy and safety of these CPM by means of systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA), and to compare them in order.

    We will search PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMbase, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, CBM and other databases for RCTs of CPM in the treatment of sciatica, (database established until December 30, 2020). In addition, we will manually search the "Pharmaceutical Information", "National Essential Drug List", "Chinese Pharmacopoeia", etc. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/1400w.html to inquire about drug instructions, and screen the market circulation and clinically commonly used CPM. We will use RevMan software, gemtc package, GeMTC software for statistical analysis, and draw the surface under cumulative ranking area (SUCRA) to predict the order of curative effect of treatment measures.

    Our study will compare and evaluate the effectiveness of CPM in the treatment of sciatica, and rank different CPM. The outcome indicators will include clinical efficacy, pain degree, lumbar spine function and adverse events.

    Cushing's disease (CD) is associated with increased risk of mortality, myocardial infarction, stroke, peptic ulcers, fractures and infections. The prevalence of CD is nearly 40 per million and higher in women than in men. When surgery has failed, is not feasible, or has been refused, pharmacotherapy can be considered a valuable option. Pasireotide is the first medical therapy officially approved for adult patients with CD. We will conduct a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of pasireotide for CD.

    Five English databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and OVID) and 3 Chinese databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database) will be searched from their respective inception of databases to December 2020. Two reviewers will select articles, extract data and assess the risk of bias independently. Any disagreement will be resolved by discussion with the third reviewer. Review Manager 5.3 software will be used for data synthesis. The Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool will be used to evaluate the bias risk.

    This systematic review and meta-analysis will conduct a comprehensive literature search and provide a systematic synthesis of current published data to explore the efficacy and safety of pasireotide for CD.

    The present study aimed to evaluate the role of early F-18 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18] fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) in non-small cell lung cancer patients undergoing immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment.Twenty-four non-small cell lung cancer patients who received nivolumab or pembrolizumab and underwent FDG PET/CT as an interim analysis after 2 or 3 cycles of ICI treatment were retrospectively enrolled. Tumor response was assessed using the PET Response Criteria in Solid Tumors 1.0 (PERCIST) and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) criteria after 2 or 3 cycles of ICI treatment (SCAN-1) and after an additional 2 cycles of ICI treatment (SCAN-2). The best overall response was determined by FDG PET/CT or chest CT at ≥ 3 months after therapy initiation, and the clinical benefit was investigated. progression-free survival was investigated, and its correlation with clinicopathologic and metabolic parameters was examined using aents with discordant response assessments between the PERCIST and EORTC criteria showed conflicting clinical benefits. Among the 14 patients with PMD, none experienced any clinical benefit. The pooled hazard ratio (HR) or odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was determined to assess the relationship between HDGF expression and clinical outcome in patients with NSCLC. The pooled HRs between high HDGF expression and clinical outcome were 2.20 (95% CI 1.75-2.76, P < .001) and 2.77 (95% CI 1.79-4.29, P < .001) for overall survival and disease-free survival, respectively. We will search PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMbase, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, CBM and other databases for RCTs of CPM in the treatment of sciatica, (database established until December 30, 2020). The prevalence of CD is nearly 40 per million and higher in women than in men. When surgery has failed, is not feasible, or has been refused, pharmacotherapy can be considered a valuable option. Pasireotide is the first medical therapy officially approved for adult patients with CD. We will conduct a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of pasireotide for CD. Five English databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and OVID) and 3 Chinese databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database) will be searched from their respective inception of databases to December 2020. Two reviewers will select articles, extract data and assess the risk of bias independently. Any disagreement will be resolved by discussion with the third reviewer. From June 15th to 30th, 3-4 weeks after the easing of confinement measures, we screened 1,636 collaborators of NOVA university of Lisbon for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 spike specific IgA and IgG antibodies. We found that spike-specific IgG in 50 of 1,636 participants (3.0%), none of which had anti-spike IgA antibodies. As participants self-reported as asymptomatic or paucisymptomatic, our study also provides a measurement of the prevalence of asymptomatic/paucisymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infections. Our study suggests that essential workers have a 2-fold increase in viral exposure, when compared to non-essential workers that observed confinement. Low molecular weight metabolites can be assessed by metabolomic analyses, and although these have been conducted in RA and in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, few have been carried out for ILD in the context of RA. Therefore, we analyzed serum metabolomic profiles of ILD in RA to identify novel biomarkers. Methods Serum samples from 100 RA patients with ILD and 100 matched RA patients without chronic lung disease (CLD) were collected. These samples were subjected to metabolomic analyses using capillary electrophoresis time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Results A total of 299 metabolites were detected in the metabolomic analysis. By univariate analysis, serum levels of decanoic acid and morpholine were lower in RA with ILD (false discovery rate Q = 1.87 × 10-11 and 7.09 × 10-6, respectively), and glycerol was higher (Q = 1.20 × 10-6), relative to RA without CLD. Serum levels of these metabolites in RA with usual interstitial pneumonia or RA with non-specific interstitial pneumonia were also altered. The partial least squares-discriminant analysis model generated from these three metabolites could successfully discriminate ILD in RA (area under the curve 0.919, 95% confidence interval 0.867-0.968, sensitivity 0.880, specificity 0.780). Conclusions Serum levels of some metabolites were significantly different in RA with ILD compared with RA without CLD. It is concluded that metabolomic profiling will be useful for discovering candidate screening biomarkers for ILD in RA.

  • The ability to distinguish between erratic and systematic patterns of change in case count data is crucial for assessing and projecting the course of disease outbreaks. Here, it is shown that measuring the strength of trends can provide information that is not readily captured by commonly used descriptive indicators. In combination with the 7-day moving average, Bandt and Pompe's permutation entropy and Wilder's relative strength index were found to support the timely detection of coronavirus epidemic trends and transitions in data from various countries. The results demonstrate that measuring the strength of epidemic growth trends in addition to their magnitude can significantly enhance disease surveillance.We investigated the recruitment of specific parasitoids using a specific blend of synthetic herbivory-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) as a novel method of pest control in greenhouses. In the Miyama rural area in Kyoto, Japan, diamondback moth (DBM) (Plutella xylostella, Lepidoptera Plutellidae) larvae are an important pest of cruciferous crops in greenhouses, and Cotesia vestalis (Hymenoptera Braconidae), a larval parasitoid of DBM, is found in the surrounding areas. Dispensers of HIPVs that attracted C. vestalis and honey feeders were set inside greenhouses (treated greenhouses). The monthly incidence of DBMs in the treated greenhouses was significantly lower than that in the untreated greenhouses over a 2-year period. The monthly incidences of C. vestalis and DBMs were not significantly different in the untreated greenhouses, whereas monthly C. vestalis incidence was significantly higher than monthly DBM incidence in the treated greenhouses. Poisson regression analyses showed that, in both years, a significantly higher number of C. vestalis was recorded in the treated greenhouses than in the untreated greenhouses when the number of DBM adults increased. We concluded that DBMs were suppressed more effectively by C. vestalis in the treated greenhouses than in the untreated greenhouses.Today, monachine seals display the largest body sizes in pinnipeds. However, the evolution of larger body sizes has been difficult to assess due to the murky taxonomic status of fossil seals, including fossils referred to Callophoca obscura, a species thought to be present on both sides of the North Atlantic during the Neogene. Several studies have recently called into question the taxonomic validity of these fossils, especially those from the USA, as the fragmentary lectotype specimen from Belgium is of dubious diagnostic value. We find that the lectotype isolated humerus of C. obscura is too uninformative; thus, we designate C. obscura as a nomen dubium. More complete cranial and postcranial specimens from the Pliocene Yorktown Formation are described as a new taxon, Sarcodectes magnus. The cranial specimens display adaptations towards an enhanced ability to cut or chew prey that are unique within Phocidae, and estimates indicate S. magnus to be around 2.83 m in length. A parsimony phylogenetic analysis found S. magnus is a crown monachine. An ancestral state estimation of body length indicates that monachines did not have a remarkable size increase until the evolution of the lobodontins and miroungins.Across diverse systems including language, music and genomes, there is a tendency for longer sequences to contain shorter constituents; this phenomenon is known as Menzerath's Law. Whether Menzerath's Law is a universal in biological systems, is the result of compression (wherein shortest possible strings represent the maximum amount of information) or emerges from an inevitable relationship between sequence and constituent length remains a topic of debate. In non-human primates, the vocalizations of geladas, male gibbons and chimpanzees exhibit patterns consistent with Menzerath's Law. Here, we use existing datasets of three duetting primate species (tarsiers, titi monkeys and gibbons) to examine the wide-scale applicability of Menzerath's Law. Primate duets provide a useful comparative model to test for the broad-scale applicability of Menzerath's Law, as they evolved independently under presumably similar selection pressures and are emitted under the same context(s) across taxa. Only four out of the eight call types we examined were consistent with Menzerath's Law. Two of these call types exhibited a negative relationship between the position of the note in the call and note duration, indicating that adherence to Menzerath's Law in these call types may be related to breathing constraints. Exceptions to Menzerath's Law occur when notes are relatively homogeneous, or when species-specific call structure leads to a deterministic decrease in note duration. We show that adherence to Menzerath's Law is the exception rather than the rule in duetting primates. It is possible that selection pressures for long-range signals that can travel effectively over large distances was stronger than that of compression in primate duets. Exceptions to Menzerath's Law occur when notes are relatively homogeneous, or when species-specific call structure leads to a deterministic decrease in note duration.     Hong Kong Special Administrative Region SAR (China) achieved measles elimination status in 2016, and the incidence of measles infection had been low over the past few years. However, the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) at the Department of Health was notified on 22 March 2019 of an outbreak of three cases of measles infection among workers at the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region International Airport (HKIA).

    We reviewed notifications of measles received by CHP from 1 January to 17 May 2019. We defined a confirmed case of measles as having laboratory evidence of measles infection. All confirmed cases among airport workers or those with epidemiological information suggesting they had been infected by contact with airport workers were included in the review. We described the epidemiological features and reviewed the control measures against the outbreak.

    We identified 33 cases, 29 of which were among airport workers. They comprised 22 men and 11 women, aged 20-49 years (median 25 years). The majority of people with confirmed measles presented with fever and rash. All required hospitalization. None developed complications. Control measures, including enhanced environmental hygiene and improved ventilation at HKIA and vaccinations for the airport community, were implemented. Vaccinations were provided to 8501 eligible airport workers, and the outbreak was declared over on 17 May 2019.

This paper describes such responses from January to mid-April 2020 in PHC, including public health measures in Muscat, Oman.

    This is a descriptive study showing the trends of the confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 and the undertaken responses to the evolving epidemiological scenario. These responses were described utilizing the World Health Organizations' building blocks for health care systems Leadership and governance, Health workforce, Service delivery, Medical products and technologies, and health information management.

    In mid-April 2020, cases of COVID-19 increased to 685 (particularly among non-nationals). As the cases were surging, the PHC responded by executing all guidelines and policies from the national medical and public health response committees and integrating innovative approaches.
