Furthermore, we transplanted the porcine decellularized optic nerve containing neurotrophin-3-overexpressing Schwann cells in a rat model of T10 spinal cord defect in vivo. Four weeks later, the regenerating axons grew straight, the myelin sheath in the injured/transplanted area recovered its structure, and simultaneously, the number of inflammatory cells and the expression of chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans were reduced. The results showed that NEUROD1 overexpression reprogrammed the cultured reactive astrocytes into neurons in vitro with an efficiency of 13.4%. Using proteomic and bioinformatic analyses, 1952 proteins were identified, of which 92 were differentially expressed. Among these proteins, 11 were identified as candidate proteins in the process of reprogramming based on their biological functions and fold-changes in the bioinformatic analysis. Furthermore, western blot assay revealed that casein kinase II subunit alpha (CSNK2A2) and pinin (PNN) expression in NEUROD1-overexpressing reactive astrocytes was significantly increased, suggesting that NEUROD1 can directly reprogram spinal cord-derived reactive astrocytes into neurons in vitro, and that the NEUROD1-CSNK2A2-PNN pathway is involved in this process. Our results revealed that the mean spontaneous firing rate of the caudate-putamen nucleus was increased by sodium salicylate treatment, while dopamine levels were decreased. In addition, electrical stimulation of the caudate-putamen nucleus markedly reduced the spontaneous firing rate of neurons in the primary auditory cortex. These findings suggest that the caudate-putamen nucleus plays a sensory gating role in sodium salicylate-induced tinnitus.

The propensity score (PS) based method has been increasingly used in road safety evaluation studies. However, several major considerations regarding its implementation arise when using the PS method. First, as is well known, the PS method is 'data hungry' in terms of the number of treated and control units, however, it is sometimes difficult and time-consuming to construct a large sample in road safety studies. It would be helpful to better understand how to choose a proper sample size, as well as the ratio of the number of treated units to the control ones. Second, the criteria used for covariates selection of the PS model were not fully consistent across the existing road safety evaluation studies. Due to the complicated mechanisms behind the implementation of road safety measures and policies, including all relevant covariates that affect both the selection into treatment (i.e., implementation of road safety measures) and the outcomes (i.e., road accidents) is impossible. In this paper, we conduct a simulation study to investigate such issues and provide some practical suggestions for using PS methods in road safety evaluations. The estimator considered in this study is the inverse probability weighting estimator based on the PS. Our results suggest that the bias and variance of the estimated treatment effect will remain stable when the sample size reaches a certain level. A proper sample size is the one that ensures relevant covariates achieve acceptable balance. Regarding the issue of covariates selection, including the covariates that significantly affect the road accidents is recommended, regardless of whether they affect the implementation of road safety measures. This study also proposes practical procedures for using the weighting approach to evaluate the effects of road safety treatments.Speed-pedelecs -fast electric bicycles offering pedal support up to a speed of 45 km/h- are a recent, environmentally friendly, and mobility efficient innovation. However, their high travel speed may increase crash and injury risk. Due to their recent introduction accurate crash data are not available yet. Since near-crashes may serve as a proxy for crashes this study analyzed traffic conflicts (i.e., near-crashes and minor crashes) in the Netherlands with the aim to proactively identify potential crash partners, crash patterns, and crash risk increasing factors. To this end, twenty-eight participants used a speed-pedelec in daily traffic, equipped with a forward and a backward facing camera, for two to three consecutive weeks. In a total of 227 h of video footage in which a distance of 6584 km was travelled, 115 conflicts were identified of which 114 were near-crashes in which evasive actions were performed to avert a crash, and one was a minor crash. The most frequent conflict partner were bicycles (51 %), (4) speed-pedelecs rode near or at an intersection, OR = 3.94, 95 % CI = [2.42-6.43]. These findings suggest that conflict risks are higher when speed-pedelec riders make use of bicycle facilities than when they ride on the roadway for cars. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/jh-x-119-01.html However, the consequences of crashes with motorized vehicles on the roadway will probably be more severe for speed-pedelec riders than with bicycles on the cycle path. It is a sequel to the paper Fatal train accidents on Europe's railways 1980-2009 (Evans (2011), which covers the three decades 1980-2009. The present paper discards the data for the 1980s, but adds the data for 2010-2019. The data cover the 28 countries of the European Union as in 2019, together with Norway and Switzerland. The source of the recent data is largely the European Union Agency for Railways. The estimated overall trend in the number of fatal train collisions and derailments per train-kilometre was -5.6 % per year from 1990-2019, with a 95 % confidence interval of -7.1 % to -4.2 %. The estimated accident rate in 2019 was 0.85 fatal collisions or derailments per billion train-kilometres, which represents a fall of 78 % since 1990. This gives an estimated mean number of fatal accidents in Europe in 2019 of 3.89. The data and results for 2010-2019 closely match the extrapolation of the results for 1990-2009, so that in 2009 extrapolation would have given a good forward projection for 2019. By the same argument this paper gives a forward projection of the mean number of accidents in 2029 of 2.12, assuming no change in train-kilometres, or pro-rata changes with changes in train-kilometres. The paper investigates the causes of accidents. A notable finding is that the proportion of accidents caused by signals passed at danger (SPADs) fell from 40 % in 1990-1999 to 21 % in 2010-2019. This is probably due to the increasing deployment of train protection systems. The number of fatalities in individual accidents has a skew distribution most accidents have a small number of fatalities, but a few have a large number. The overall observed number of fatalities per accident is 4.23, and there is no indication that this mean changes with time. This implies that the mean number of fatalities per year has the same downward trend of 5.6 % per year as the mean number of accidents per year.Understanding how marine fish early-life history is affected in the long-term by environmental and oceanographic factors is fundamental given its importance to population dynamics and connectivity. This work aimed at determining the influence of these processes on the interannual variability in hatch day and early-life growth patterns of European seabass, over a seven-year period (2011-2017) in the Atlantic Iberian coast. To accomplish this, otolith microstructure analysis was used to determine seabass hatch day and to develop early-growth correlations. In most years, hatching occurred from February to April, with two exceptions in 2012, hatching started in early-January, and in 2016 an exceptionally long hatching period was registered. Using generalized additive models (GAM), we observed that sea surface temperature (SST), the North Atlantic Oscillation index (NAOi) and Chlorophyll-a (Chla) were the main drivers behind the inter-annual variability in seabass hatch day. Analysis of correlations between growth increments allowed assessing important periods of seabass growth and how future growth is affected.

It operates both as a ligand-gated cationic channel and as a metabotropic receptor in neuronal and non-neuronal cells. As protein phosphorylation is an important cell function regulatory mechanism, deciphering how tyrosine phosphorylation modulates α7 dual ionotropic/metabotropic molecular function is required for understanding its integral role in physiological and pathological processes. α7 single-channel activity elicited by ACh appears as brief isolated openings and less often as episodes of few openings in quick succession. The reduction of phosphorylation by tyrosine kinase inhibition increases the duration and frequency of activation episodes, whereas the inhibition of phosphatases has the opposite effect. Removal of two tyrosine residues at the α7 intracellular domain recapitulates the effects mediated by tyrosine kinase inhibition. The tyrosine-free mutant receptor shows longer duration-activation episodes, reduced desensitization rate and significantly faster recovery from desensitization, indicating that phosphorylation decreases α7 channel activity by favoring the desensitized state. However, the mutant receptor is incapable of triggering ERK1/2 phosphorylation in response to the α7-agonist. Thus, while tyrosine phosphorylation is absolutely required for α7-triggered ERK pathway, it negatively modulates α7 ionotropic activity. Hsd11b2-/- neonates exhibited incipient hypokalaemia from 15 days of age and became increasingly polydipsic and polyuric from weaning. As with adults, they excreted a high proportion of ingested Na+ through the kidney, (56.15 ± 8.21% versus control 34.15 ± 8.23%; n = 4; P less then 0.0001), suggesting that changes in nephron electrolyte transporters identified in adults, by RNA-seq analysis, occur by 4 weeks of age. Our data reveal that Na+ imbalance in the Hsd11b2-/- neonate leads to excess Na+ storage in skin and incipient hypokalaemia, which, together with increased, glucocorticoid-induced Na+ uptake in the kidney, then contribute to progressive, volume contracted, salt-sensitive hypertension. Skin Na+ plays an important role in the development of SAME but, equally, may play a key physiological role at birth, supporting post-natal growth, as an innate barrier to infection or as a rudimentary kidney.
The aim of this study was to examine the influence of neonatal vitamin D concentration on the development of early-onset type 2 diabetes in a large population sample.
We conducted a case-cohort study utilising data from the Danish biobank and registers. Neonatal vitamin D was assessed measuring 25-hydroxyvitamin D
[25(OH)D
] concentrations on the dried blood spot samples from the Biological Specimen Bank for Neonatal Screening. Cases of type 2 diabetes (n = 731) were retrieved from the Danish National Patient Register for all individuals born in Denmark between 1 May 1981 and 31 December 1992. The sub-cohort (n = 1765) was randomly selected from all children born in the same period. The serum H-FABP levels in the sepsis patients [26.6 (9.3-79.0) ng/ml] were significantly higher than in the choric HF patients [6.6 (4.6-9.7) ng/ml]. A Kaplan-Meier curve showed that the survival rate of the high-H-FABP group was significantly lower than that of the middle- and low-H-FABP groups. The reduction of phosphorylation by tyrosine kinase inhibition increases the duration and frequency of activation episodes, whereas the inhibition of phosphatases has the opposite effect. Removal of two tyrosine residues at the α7 intracellular domain recapitulates the effects mediated by tyrosine kinase inhibition. The tyrosine-free mutant receptor shows longer duration-activation episodes, reduced desensitization rate and significantly faster recovery from desensitization, indicating that phosphorylation decreases α7 channel activity by favoring the desensitized state. Knowledge about the age of a stain, also termed as time since deposition (TsD), would provide law-enforcing authorities with valuable information for the prosecution of criminal offenses. Yet, there is no reliable method for the inference / assessment of TsD available. The aim of this study was to gain further insight into the RNA degradation pattern of forensically relevant body fluids and to find candidate markers for TsD estimation. Blood, menstrual blood, saliva, semen and vaginal secretion samples were exposed to indoor (dark, room temperature) and outdoor (exposed to sun, wind, etc. but protected from rain) conditions for up to 1.5 years. Based on expression and degradation analyses, we were able to identify body fluid specific signatures and RNA degradation patterns. The indoor samples showed a marked drop in RNA integrity after 6 months, while the outdoor samples were difficult to interpret and therefore excluded for some of the analyses. Up to 4 weeks, indoor samples showed more stable and less degrading transcripts than outdoor samples. Stable transcripts tended to be significantly shorter than degrading ones or transcripts, which are neither degrading nor stable. We reinforced the body fluid specific and the housekeeping gene nature of previously reported markers. Approximately 43% of patients who undergo tricuspid valve repair to correct tricuspid regurgitation will develop residual pulmonary hypertension, putting them at risk for developing increased right ventricle pressures. Previous studies have quantified the forces required to cinch the tricuspid annulus by only pressurizing the right ventricle, leaving out forces from the pressurized left ventricle and septal wall unaccounted for. This study pressurized both left and right ventricles of 10 porcine hearts to their normal physiological pressures of 110 mmHg and 30 mmHg respectively, then increased right ventricular pressures to mimic moderate and severe pulmonary hypertension. A suture was anchored around the free wall of the tricuspid annulus with the free end attached to a force transducer. The force transducer was mounted on a slider system which pulled the suture at regular intervals. The cinching force on the tricuspid annulus was quantified with each annular reduction by simulating peak systole condition in both ventricles. The data was compared with only the right ventricle pressurized as previous studies did. There were significant differences in required cinching forces with each increase in right ventricular pressure and between trials that pressurized both ventricles versus only the right ventricle, suggesting adoption of this physiologically improved protocol. The purpose of this paper was to quantify age-related differences in foot mechanical work during walking across a range of speeds and at a single fixed speed with varied demands for push-off power. 9 young and 10 older adults walked at 1.0, 1.2, and 1.4 m/s, and at 1.2 m/s with an aiding or impeding horizontal pulling force equal to 5% BW. We calculated foot work in Visual3D using a unified deformable foot model, accounting for contributions of structures distal to the hindfoot's center-of-mass. Older adults walked while performing less positive foot work and more negative net foot work (p less then 0.05). Further, we found that the effect of age on mechanical work performed by the foot and the ankle-foot complex increased with increased locomotor demand (p less then 0.05). Our findings suggest that during walking, age-related differences in foot mechanics may contribute to reduced push-off intensity via greater energy loss from distal foot structures, particularly during walking tasks with a greater demand for foot power generation. The aim of this study was to gain further insight into the RNA degradation pattern of forensically relevant body fluids and to find candidate markers for TsD estimation. Blood, menstrual blood, saliva, semen and vaginal secretion samples were exposed to indoor (dark, room temperature) and outdoor (exposed to sun, wind, etc. but protected from rain) conditions for up to 1.5 years. Based on expression and degradation analyses, we were able to identify body fluid specific signatures and RNA degradation patterns. The indoor samples showed a marked drop in RNA integrity after 6 months, while the outdoor samples were difficult to interpret and therefore excluded for some of the analyses. Up to 4 weeks, indoor samples showed more stable and less degrading transcripts than outdoor samples. A suture was anchored around the free wall of the tricuspid annulus with the free end attached to a force transducer. The force transducer was mounted on a slider system which pulled the suture at regular intervals. The cinching force on the tricuspid annulus was quantified with each annular reduction by simulating peak systole condition in both ventricles. The data was compared with only the right ventricle pressurized as previous studies did. There were significant differences in required cinching forces with each increase in right ventricular pressure and between trials that pressurized both ventricles versus only the right ventricle, suggesting adoption of this physiologically improved protocol. We calculated foot work in Visual3D using a unified deformable foot model, accounting for contributions of structures distal to the hindfoot's center-of-mass. Older adults walked while performing less positive foot work and more negative net foot work (p less then 0.05). Further, we found that the effect of age on mechanical work performed by the foot and the ankle-foot complex increased with increased locomotor demand (p less then 0.05). HIV-1-RNase H assay was used to study the RNase H inhibition by garcinol and isogarcinol. Docking of garcinol into the active site of the enzyme was carried out to rationalize the difference in activities between the two compounds. Garcinol showed higher HIV-1-RNase H inhibition than the known inhibitor RDS1759 and retained full potency against the RNase H of a drug-resistant HIV-1 reverse transcriptase form. Isogarcinol was distinctly less active than garcinol, indicating the importance of the enolizable β-diketone moiety of garcinol for anti-RNase H activity. Docking calculations confirmed these findings and suggested this moiety to be involved in the chelation of metal ions of the active site. On the basis of its HIV-1 reverse transcriptase-associated RNase H inhibitory activity, garcinol is worth being further explored concerning its potential as a cost-effective treatment for HIV patients.

Responses were obtained from 39 participants (68.4% response rate).
Overall, patient responses indicated a preference for health care at Gender Dynamix. Adolescents preferred wait times (79%), as well as the physical environment (97%). Respondents felt less stigma in the community-based setting (68%). Information sharing and family and whanau support was high at both Gender Dynamix (94%; 86%) and Tauranga Paediatrics (86%; 86%), and low at MiCAMHS (33%; 32%). Patients were more likely to report being heard at Gender Dynamix (91%). Few studies have evaluated whether pandemic-related stressors, worries, and social distancing have affected the mental health of pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Data came from an online survey of United States pregnant women (n=715), conducted in May 2020. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale were used to assess depressive symptoms, thoughts of self-harm, and moderate or severe anxiety. Multiple logistic regressions were used to examine the associations of COVID-19 experiences with mental health outcomes.
Participants were racially diverse. The prevalence of adverse mental health outcomes was 36% for probable depression, 20% for thoughts of self-harm, and 22% for anxiety. Women who reported family members dying from COVID-19 had four times higher odds of having thoughts of self-harm than women who did not experience family death. Depression was more prevalent among women who canceled or reduced medical appointments. Women were more likely to have wnt women during pandemic circumstances.Melanoma represents the deadliest skin cancer. This contestation occurs, in part, because of the absence of consensually agreed-upon understandings of what prejudice is. In this context, the current study sought to answer the question, "what do people understand to be prejudice?" Participants read an intergroup attitude expressed by a member of their own group (an "in-group" member) or another group (an "out-group" member). This was followed by an interpretation of the attitude as either "prejudiced" or "free speech." This interpretation was also made by in-group or an out-group member. Subsequent prejudice judgements were influenced only by the group membership of the person expressing the initial attitude the in-group member's attitude was judged to be less prejudiced than the identical attitude expressed by an out-group member. Participants' judgements of free speech, however, were more complex in-group attitudes were seen more as free speech than out-group attitudes, except when an in-group member interpreted those attitudes as prejudice. These data are consistent with the Social Identity Approach to intergroup relations, and have implications for the processes by which intergroup attitudes become legitimised as free speech instead of prejudice.S100 calcium binding protein A6 (S100A6) has been reported to involve in many kinds of cancers through regulating intracellular calcium homeostasis. Feasibility was defined a priori as completion in at least 70% of patients either with or without help. To enhance racial diversity, the original sample size was later changed and augmented by 50% with the intention of increasing enrollment of older minority patients.
A total of one hundred fifty-four patients were registered with a median age of 72 years (range, 65-91 years). Forty-three (28%) identified themselves as African American or Black. One hundred forty-one patients (92%) completed the electronic geriatric assessment. In this study, we describe a method for causing randomly oriented wrinkles to locally evolve into folds using water droplets. When a droplet comes into contact with the random wrinkles that have spontaneously formed upon film deposition owing to residual biaxial compressive strains, radially extended folds instantaneously emerge at the droplet boundary. Upon water evaporation, the wrinkles beneath the droplet also undergo a transition, leaving a fold network. By contrast, the surface regions distant from where the droplet was placed retain the wrinkle morphology. The folded areas can be controlled by adjusting the volume and number of droplets. These transitions are enabled by the capillary forces of water that help to increase the local compressive strains. This capillary-induced wrinkle-to-fold transition provides a simple mechanism to develop folds in selected locations on wrinkled surfaces of film-substrate systems subject to small biaxial compression, which is unachievable with conventional approaches.Cross-linking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) has become a powerful technique that enables insights into protein structures and protein interactions. The detailed interfacial structure evolution and reaction mechanism have been carefully illustrated down to the atomic scale. This work aims to demonstrate that the detection of PAI in roasted coffee is not necessarily diagnostic for Folpet as it can also originate from the reaction between phthalic anhydride (PAA), derived from phthalates, and amino acids (AAs), as a NH3 source. Thermal treatment of AAs with PAA confirmed that PAI generation follows a temperature-dependent path. We performed a systematic review to amalgamate current understanding of the economic impact of surgery on the individual and household. We searched Pubmed and Medline for articles addressing economic aspects of surgical disease/care in low income countries. Data analysis was descriptive in light of a wide range of methodologies and reporting measures. Quality assessment and risk of bias analysis was performed using study design specific Joanna-Briggs Institute checklists. This study has been reported in line with PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and AMSTAR (Assessing the methodologiCs. Out of the newly scored SSR loci, Anisl 15 and Anisl 2 showed fixed alternative alleles between A. pegreffii and A. berlandi resulting as 100% diagnostic loci. However, not all healthcare settings employ round-the-clock radiologists and PXR sensitivity for diagnosing hip fracture may vary depending on digital display. We aimed to validate a computer vision algorithm to detect hip fractures across two institutions' heterogeneous patient populations. We hypothesized a convolutional neural network algorithm can accurately diagnose hip fractures on PXR and a web application can facilitate its bedside adoption.
The development cohort comprised 4235 PXRs from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH). The validation cohort comprised 500 randomly sampled PXRs from CGMH and Stanford's level I trauma centers. Xception was our convolutional neural network structure. We randomly applied image augmentation methods during training to account for image variations and used gradient-weighted class activation mapping to overlay heatmaps highlighting suspected fracture locations.
Our hip fracture detection algorithm's area under the receiver operating characteristic curves were 0.98 and 0.97 for CGMH and Stanford's validation cohorts, respectively. Besides negative predictive value (0.88 Stanford cohort), all performance metrics-sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, accuracy, and F1 score-were above 0.90 for both validation cohorts. Our web application allows users to upload PXR in multiple formats from desktops or mobile phones and displays probability of the image containing a hip fracture with heatmap localization of the suspected fracture location.
We refined and validated a high-performing computer vision algorithm to detect hip fractures on PXR. A web application facilitates algorithm use at the bedside, but the benefit of using our algorithm to supplement decision-making is likely institution dependent. Von Willebrand factor (VWF) is an acute phase reactant synthesized in the megakaryocytes and endothelial cells. VWF forms ultra-large multimers (ULVWF) which are cleaved by the metalloprotease ADAMTS-13, preventing spontaneous VWF-platelet interaction. After trauma, ULVWF is released into circulation as part of the acute phase reaction. We hypothesized that trauma patients would have increased levels of VWF and decreased levels of ADAMTS-13 and that these patients would have accelerated thrombin generation.
We assessed plasma concentrations of VWF antigen and ADAMTS-13 antigen, the Rapid Enzyme Assays for Autoimmune Diseases (REAADS) activity of VWF, which measure exposure of the platelet-binding A1 domain, and thrombin generation kinetics in 50 samples from 30 trauma patients and an additional 21 samples from volunteers. Samples were analyzed at 0 to 2 hours and at 6 hours from the time of injury. Data are presented as median (IQR) and Kruskal-Wallis test was performed between trauma patients and volunteers at both time points.

Here, the impacts of electrical conductivity of substrate on the morphology and structure of VG prepared by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition are studied by scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Amphiprion ocellaris is one of the rare reef fish species that can be reared in aquaria. It is increasingly used as a model species for Eco-Evo-Devo. Therefore, it is important to have an embryonic development table based on high quality images that will allow for standardized sampling by the scientific community.
Here we provide high-resolution time-lapse videos to accompany a detailed description of embryonic development in A ocellaris. We describe a series of developmental stages and we define six broad periods of embryogenesis zygote, cleavage, blastula, gastrula, segmentation, and organogenesis that we further subdivide into 32 stages. These periods highlight the changing spectrum of major developmental processes that occur during embryonic development.
We provide an easy system for the determination of embryonic stages, enabling the development of A ocellaris as a coral reef fish model species. This work will facilitate evolutionary development studies, in particular studies of the relationship between climate change and developmental trajectories in the context of coral reefs. Thanks to its lifestyle, complex behavior, and ecology, A ocellaris will undoubtedly become a very attractive model in a wide range of biological fields.

Steps of pilot testing, item reduction, and confirmatory factor analysis resulted in a five-subscale, 55-item instrument with acceptable goodness-of-fit indices and good internal consistency reliability. Test-retest reliability demonstrated acceptable temporal stability. The Nurses Responsibilities in Healthcare Quality Questionnaire demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability. The instrument may assist education providers and health service managers to identify gaps between nurses' beliefs and professional role expectations, and evaluate the impact of educational and clinical initiatives designed to develop nurses' knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to healthcare quality.
Lymphoma is a health outcome of interest for drug safety studies. Studies using administrative claims data require the accurate identification of lymphoma cases. We developed and validated an International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM)-based algorithm to identify lymphoma in healthcare claims data.
We developed a three-component algorithm to identify patients aged ≥15 years who were newly diagnosed with Hodgkin (HL) or non-Hodgkin (NHL) lymphoma from January 2016 through July 2018 among members of four Data Partners within the FDA's Sentinel System. The algorithm identified potential cases as patients with ≥2 ICD-10-CM lymphoma diagnosis codes on different dates within 183 days; ≥1 procedure code for a diagnostic procedure (e.g., biopsy, flow cytometry) and ≥1 procedure code for a relevant imaging study within 90 days of the first lymphoma diagnosis code. Cases identified by the algorithm were adjudicated via chart review and a positive predictive value (PPVies.

A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted.
Data collection was performed from June to August 2017 in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin province, which consists of seven districts and three counties. In total, 304 older adults aged 60 years and above participated. The characteristics of older adults were evaluated in terms of frailty status, loneliness and the QOL. One-way and two-way analyses of covariance and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves were used to explore the relationships of frailty, loneliness and the QOL.
The one-way ANCOVA showed a significant difference among robust, prefrail and frail participants for loneliness. Moreover, an interaction effect of frailty with loneliness in determining the QOL was found. The receiver operating characteristic curves showed that loneliness and QOL could distinguish frail older adults, and the best cutoffs were 34.

A 24-year-old woman was referred to us for an intracranial haemorrhage in the left temporal lobe caused by a ruptured cavernous malformation; the bleeding extended over the left Heschl's gyrus and Wernicke area. On admission, the patient had global aphasia. A few days later, she spontaneously improved but remained with mild residual comprehensive dysphasia. She reported hearing, in her right ear, recently heard words, which is consistent with palinacousis. Auditory acuity testing was normal. EEG showed focal slowing in the left temporal region with no epileptiform activity. During awake surgery for resection of the cavernous malformation, stimulation of the superior temporal gyrus did not provoke palinacousis. The patient made good recovery with complete resolution of the aphasia and no recurrence of palinacousis. We aimed to review this phenomenon and to provide a systematic review of the current literature.

Patients had a baseline Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Global Physical Health (GPH) score and follow-up score at 3 months. The current coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has placed unprecedented restrictions on people's lives and routines. To counteract the exponential spread of this virus, a lockdown was implemented in Germany in March 2020. Infected persons and their contacts were also quarantined. Compliance with quarantine measures is essential for containing the spread of the virus and avoiding incalculable consequences in terms of morbidity and mortality. On the other hand, prolonged homestays, particularly quarantining, may lead to fear, panic, anxiety and depression. Hence, determining the psychological response in people during quarantine and their coping strategies is relevant for the counselling and support of affected persons by healthcare workers.

Antioxidant dietary supplements are used by many patients with cancer to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and improve prognosis. While some research indicates oral antioxidant supplementation reduces side effects and improves patient survival, other studies suggest the use of antioxidant dietary supplements may interfere with chemotherapy and reduce its curative effects. There is a need to clarify the evidence base on the impact of dietary antioxidant supplementation during chemotherapy on both side effect and treatment efficacy outcomes. We will use a scoping review approach to identify what systematic review evidence exists regarding beneficial and harmful effects of dietary antioxidant supplements when used during cancer treatment.

We will systematically search PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, Dissertations & Theses Global and the Cochrane Library from inception to October 2020. Systematic reviews of raexisting gaps in the evidence as identified by the scoping review.
This scoping review does not require ethical approval as it is a secondary assessment of available literature. The results will be presented at conferences and submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. We will also disseminate results to community and clinical stakeholders and involve them in developing subsequent research to address critical existing gaps in the evidence as identified by the scoping review.
Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) decreases the morbidity and mortality risk among patients with cardiac diseases; however, the impact of CR on patients with diabetes remains underexplored. This is a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis methodology to explore if the effect of CR on mortality and morbidity is the same in patients with type 2 diabetes compared with patients without diabetes.
Interventional and non-interventional studies comparing the effect of CR, for at least 1 month, on all-cause mortality and cardiovascular outcomes including fatal and non-fatal myocardial infarction, revascularisation and rehospitalisation in adults with cardiac diseases will be deemed eligible for inclusion. Studies published between 1990 and 2020 will be searched in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CINAHL, Scopus and in registries for randomised controlled trials. Eligible studies will be selected using the Covidence software, and their salient details regarding the design, population, tested interventions and outcomes of interest will be gathered.
A 24-year-old woman was referred to us for an intracranial haemorrhage in the left temporal lobe caused by a ruptured cavernous malformation; the bleeding extended over the left Heschl's gyrus and Wernicke area. On admission, the patient had global aphasia. A few days later, she spontaneously improved but remained with mild residual comprehensive dysphasia. She reported hearing, in her right ear, recently heard words, which is consistent with palinacousis. Auditory acuity testing was normal. EEG showed focal slowing in the left temporal region with no epileptiform activity. During awake surgery for resection of the cavernous malformation, stimulation of the superior temporal gyrus did not provoke palinacousis. The patient made good recovery with complete resolution of the aphasia and no recurrence of palinacousis. We aimed to review this phenomenon and to provide a systematic review of the current literature. Antioxidant dietary supplements are used by many patients with cancer to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and improve prognosis. While some research indicates oral antioxidant supplementation reduces side effects and improves patient survival, other studies suggest the use of antioxidant dietary supplements may interfere with chemotherapy and reduce its curative effects. There is a need to clarify the evidence base on the impact of dietary antioxidant supplementation during chemotherapy on both side effect and treatment efficacy outcomes.
