We describe a simple, rapid, and inexpensive strategy to screen for CAG repeat expansion mutations at the ATXN1, ATXN2, and ATXN3 loci using melting curve analysis of triplet-primed PCR products. Plasmid DNAs of known repeat sizes were used to generate threshold melt peak temperatures, which rapidly and effectively distinguish samples carrying an expanded allele from those carrying nonexpanded alleles. Melting curve analysis-positive samples were confirmed by capillary electrophoresis sizing of the triplet-primed PCR products. All three assays achieved 100% sensitivity, with 95% CIs of 67.86% to 100% (SCA1), 74.65% to 100% (SCA2), and 91.58% to 100% (SCA3). The SCA1 assay also achieved 100% specificity (95% CI, 97.52%-100%), whereas the SCA2 and SCA3 assays achieved specificity of 99.46% (95% CI, 96.56%-99.97%) and 99.32% (95% CI, 95.70%-99.96%), respectively. These screening assays provide robust and highly accurate detection of expanded alleles and are amenable to large-scale screening while minimizing the need for capillary electrophoresis sizing for every sample.The identification of gene fusions is a cornerstone of diagnosis and treatment decision making for tumors of many forms and primary sites. Recently, a new platform for nanopore sequencing has become publicly available, the Flongle flow cell from Oxford Nanopore Technologies, which offers lower throughput, but lower price testing. Here, we describe the results of retesting of 15 specimens previously tested with both Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies MinION sequencing. Furthermore, we additionally blindly tested 13 specimens that had undergone clinical Illumina-based sequencing. The Flongle sequencing pipeline removed key complexities of a multiplexed nanopore sequencing protocol, reduced sequencing turnaround time, and showed excellent concordance with Illumina results. It was particularly strong in identifying notoriously difficult to detect CIC-DUX4 translocations. The Flongle sequencing pipeline may be the assay of choice for deployment in small- to medium-sized molecular laboratories.
    There is emerging evidence that physical activity can have beneficial effects on anxiety. A comprehensive synthesis of the evidence of the anxiolytic effects of physical activity from randomised controlled trials (RCTs) in children and young people (CYP) is warranted.

    A search of 13 databases was conducted to identify RCTs testing the effects of physical activity on anxiety symptoms in children and young people (up to 25 years). Screening, data extraction and risk of bias assessment (using the Cochrane Collaboration tool for assessing risk of bias) were independently undertaken by two study authors. The primary analysis used a random effects model to compare the effect of physical activity interventions to no intervention or minimal intervention control conditions on state anxiety, assessed using validated, self-report measures.

    Of the 3590 articles retrieved, 22 RCTs were included, with nine included in the primary meta-analysis.   • Compliance and tolerance of facemasks for extended periods are legitimate concerns. The goal of this study was to identify the physiologic and symptomatic effects of extended-use N95 filtering facepiece respirator (N95) compared with medical masks. We hypothesized that hospital personnel wearing medical masks alone would report fewer subjective complaints compared with personnel wearing an N95 with or without overlying medical mask.

    This was a nonrandomized cohort study of hospital-based healthcare personnel at a single tertiary center wearing a medical mask alone or N95 with or without overlying medical mask during routine clinical activity. Potential subjects were consented and asked to complete a structured survey, including a 10-point Likert scale for subjective symptoms headache, lightheadedness, breathlessness, facial bruising, facial irritation, mental fatigue, physical fatigue, and yawning. Study investigators also obtained vital signs on the participants. Results between subjects wearing a medical mask and subjects wearing an N95 were compared. A sample of 144 subjects, 72 in each mask cohort, was needed to detect a 20% difference in a composite outcome of headache, shortness of breath, or lightheadedness between groups with an alpha of 0.05 and power of 0.8.

    We enrolled 72 subjects in each group. There were no differences in baseline demographics. Overall 77% of the cohort reported subjective symptoms while donning a mask. There was no difference in the composite outcome, no difference recorded symptoms except facial bruising, and no difference in physiologic measures between groups.

    Practice guidelines advise caution on the use of metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This review aims to examine the evidence for the benefits and risks of metformin use in patients with T2DM and CKD.

    The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and PubMed were searched; the references of selected papers were hand searched. Systematic reviews, randomised controlled trials, cohort studies, case series and case-control studies were included. The full text of selected articles was reviewed. The outcomes studied were all-cause mortality, cardiovascular complications, lactic acidosis and worsening of renal function. Recommendations were graded according to the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network system.

    A total of 139 unique articles were identified, 14 of which met the inclusion criteria and were selected for full-text review. Four cohort studies reported an association between metformin use and improved all-cause mortality in CKD stage 4 and better. Two cohort studies reported improved cardiovascular outcomes with metformin use. Four cohort studies, 1 case series and 1 case-control study reported no significant association between metformin use and an increased risk of lactic acidosis in CKD. There is a moderate level of evidence to support reduced mortality, improved cardiovascular outcomes and a low risk of lactic acidosis with metformin use in patients with T2DM and with CKD stage 4 and above.

    Primary healthcare providers play a crucial role in educating their patients on chronic disease self-management (CDSM). This study aims to evaluate CDSM competency and satisfaction in patients receiving their healthcare from public or private healthcare providers.

    A cross-sectional household study was conducted in a public housing estate using a standardised questionnaire to interview Singaporeans and permanent residents aged 40 years and above, who were diagnosed with at least 1 of these chronic diseases hyperlipidaemia, hypertension or diabetes mellitus. CDSM competency was evaluated with the Partners In Health (PIH) scale and a knowledge based questionnaire. Satisfaction was evaluated using a satisfaction scale.

    In general, the 420 respondents demonstrated good CDSM competency, with 314 followed up at polyclinics and 106 by general practitioners (GPs). There was no significant difference between patients of polyclinics and GPs in CDSM competency scores (mean PIH score 72.9 vs 75.1, P=0.563), hypertension knowledge scores (90.9 vs 85.4, P=0.16) and diabetes knowledge scores (84.3 vs 79.5, P=0.417), except for hyperlipidaemia knowledge scores (78.6 vs 84.7, P=0.043). However, respondents followed up by GPs had higher satisfaction rates than did those followed up at polyclinics (odds ratio 3.6, confidence interval 2.28-5.78). Favourable personality of the doctors and ideal consultation duration led to higher satisfaction in the GP setting. A longer waiting time led to lower satisfaction in the polyclinic group.

This study aimed to analyze the correlation between the extent of mismatched Q defects in V/Q single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) with preoperative clinical and hemodynamic parameters in patients with CTEPH.

    A total of 102 patients with CTEPH prior to PEA having V/Q SPECT/CT scans were retrospectively reviewed. Age, gender, New York Heart Association classification, intraoperative right-sided heart catheterization (mPAP and PVR), and 6-minute walk test (6MWT) findings were obtained from clinical records of patients.

    Linear regression analysis showed a significant but weak correlation between the preoperative mPAP and PVR with the extent of mismatched Q defects in V/Q SPECT/CT (rs=0.09474 with p=0.0016 and rs=0.045 with p=0.045, respectively).     Trauma is a major global health problem and majority of the deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), at even higher rates in the rural areas. The three-delay model assesses three different delays in accessing healthcare and can be applied to improve surgical and trauma healthcare delivery. Prior to implementing change, the capacities of the rural India healthcare system need to be identified.

    The object of this study was to estimate surgical and trauma care capacities of government health facilities in rural Nanakpur, Haryana, India using the Personnel, Infrastructure, Procedures, Equipment and Supplies (PIPES) and International Assessment of Capacity for Trauma (INTACT) tools.

    The PIPES and INTACT tools were administered at eight government health facilities serving the population of Nanakpur in June 2015. Data analysis was performed per tool subsection, and an overall score was calculated. Higher PIPES or INTACT indices correspond to greater surgical or trauma care capacity, respectiv India.

    Pancreatic duct ligation in a minipig model leads to exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). This allows the study of digestive processes and pancreatic enzyme replacement therapies. However, detailed descriptions of the surgical procedure, perioperative management, a determination of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency are scarce in the literature. Data of the long-term health status of minipigs upon EPI induction are still not available. Therefore, the present study describes in detail an experimental approach to the induction of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency via pancreatic duct ligation in minipigs and the long term follow up of the animal's health state.

    Bow Hunter's Syndrome (BHS) is known as one of cervical diseases which causes vertigo, but the details of its vertigo, especially nystagmus and eye movement, are still incompletely understood. This time, we reported the first case of BHS with a nystagmus chart with video record of transitional nystagmus.

    The patient, a 47-year-old female, complained of vertigo caused by head rotation. When she turned her head leftward, leftward nystagmus appeared, and this was followed by dullness of the right arm. After her head was returned to the central position, downbeat nystagmus appeared, which changed to rightward nystagmus. She was diagnosed with BHS by her symptoms and images. We recorded a nystagmus video and nystagmus chart of this transitional nystagmus including downbeat nystagmus. Her vertigo was cured by the modification of a prescription for her past medical history hypertension.

    The vertigo of BHS accompanies nystagmus. In this present case, the transitional nystagmus was observed, and it occurred towanosis.
    Fluid overload is common in patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and ultrafiltration (UF) is frequently required. There is lack of guidance on optimal UF practice. We aimed to explore patterns of UF practice, barriers to achieving UF targets, and concerns related to UF practice among practitioners working in Europe.

    This was a sub-study of an international open survey with focus on adult intensivists and nephrologists, advanced practice providers, and ICU and dialysis nurses working in Europe.

    Four hundred eighty-five practitioners (75% intensivists) from 31 countries completed the survey. The most common criteria for UF initiation was persistent oliguria/anuria (45.6%), followed by pulmonary edema (16.7%). Continuous renal replacement therapy was the preferred initial modality (90.0%). The median initial and maximal rate of net ultrafiltration (UF
    ) prescription in hemodynamically stable patients were 149 mL/hr. (IQR 100-200) and 300 mL/hr. (IQR 201-352), respectively, compared to a median UF
    rate of 98 mL/hr. (IQR 51-108) in hemodynamically unstable patients and varied significantly between countries.     South Africa has one of the highest tuberculosis incidence rates. Biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs are associated with an increased risk of tuberculosis. The objective of this study was to describe the tuberculosis disease incidence rate among public sector patients receiving biologic therapies in the Western Cape Province.

    A retrospective, descriptive analysis was undertaken using routine health data collated by the Provincial Health Data Centre from January 2007 (first use of biologic therapy in the Western Cape) to September 2018.

When she turned her head leftward, leftward nystagmus appeared, and this was followed by dullness of the right arm. After her head was returned to the central position, downbeat nystagmus appeared, which changed to rightward nystagmus. She was diagnosed with BHS by her symptoms and images. We recorded a nystagmus video and nystagmus chart of this transitional nystagmus including downbeat nystagmus. Her vertigo was cured by the modification of a prescription for her past medical history hypertension. The vertigo of BHS accompanies nystagmus. We aimed to explore patterns of UF practice, barriers to achieving UF targets, and concerns related to UF practice among practitioners working in Europe. This was a sub-study of an international open survey with focus on adult intensivists and nephrologists, advanced practice providers, and ICU and dialysis nurses working in Europe. Four hundred eighty-five practitioners (75% intensivists) from 31 countries completed the survey. The most common criteria for UF initiation was persistent oliguria/anuria (45.6%), followed by pulmonary edema (16.7%). Continuous renal replacement therapy was the preferred initial modality (90.0%). The median initial and maximal rate of net ultrafiltration (UF ) prescription in hemodynamically stable patients were 149 mL/hr. (IQR 100-200) and 300 mL/hr. (IQR 201-352), respectively, compared to a median UF rate of 98 mL/hr. (IQR 51-108) in hemodynamically unstable patients and varied significantly between countries. The objective of this study was to describe the tuberculosis disease incidence rate among public sector patients receiving biologic therapies in the Western Cape Province. A retrospective, descriptive analysis was undertaken using routine health data collated by the Provincial Health Data Centre from January 2007 (first use of biologic therapy in the Western Cape) to September 2018.   • It is unclear if allergen immunotherapy (AIT) can reduce allergy effector cell activation. We evaluated the basophil response during Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der p) subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) and its relationship to allergen-specific immunoglobulin G4 (sIgG4) in allergic rhinitis and/or asthma patients. The study included 55 subjects, of which 35 cases received Der p SCIT and 20 controls received standard medications. Symptom and medication scores (SMSs), sIgG4 levels, specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) levels, allergen-induced basophil activation tests (BATs) in whole blood, and BAT inhibition assays in serum were determined at weeks 0, 4, 12, 16, 52, and 104 of SCIT. Levels of Der p sIgG4 in SCIT patients significantly increased after 12 weeks of treatment compared to week 0. Serum obtained from SCIT patients significantly inhibited basophil activation after 12 weeks of treatment. Removal of immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) antibodies at week 104 reduced the ability of serum to block basophil activation. An increase of Der p sIgG4 rather than reduction of Der p sIgE correlated with the reduction of basophil activation during SCIT. Univariate linear regression analysis showed different growth rates between the CRP rats and the control rats, and that the difference appears around 11 weeks old, indicating that they developed adult-onset obesity. We also found that chronic elevation of CRP can prime molecular changes broadly in the innate immune system, energy expenditure systems, thyroid hormones, apolipoproteins, and gut flora. Our data established a causal role of CRP elevation in the development of adult-onset obesity. Notch1 gene deletion was accomplished by adenoviral vector-mediated Cre recombination, and Notch1 overexpression was achieved by overexpression of Notch1 intracellular domain (N1ICD). EVs were isolated by using the size exclusion column method. Proteomic composition of EV was carried out by mass spectrometry. A mouse myocardial infarction (MI) model was generated by permanent left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery ligation. Intramyocardial transplantation of Notch1 knockout C-**** (C-MSCsNotch1 KO) arly, EV-C-MSCNotch1 FF and EV-C-MSCN1ICD treatment improved cardiac function and decreased fibrosis in **** post-MI. To mimic the component and hierarchical structure of woven bone, amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and mineralized collagen fibril were synthesized and compounded with alginate to form IWBLHs with various ratio.

    Roxadustat is an orally active hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) anemia.

    This Phase 3, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study examined patients with Stages 3-5 CKD, not on dialysis (NCT01887600). Patients were randomized (21) to oral roxadustat or placebo three times weekly for 52-104 weeks. This study examined two primary efficacy endpoints European Union (European Medicines Agency)-hemoglobin (Hb) response, defined as Hb ≥11.0 g/dL that increased from baseline (BL) by ≥1.0 g/dL in patients with Hb >8.0 g/dL or ≥2.0 g/dL in patients with BL Hb ≤8.0 g/dL, without rescue therapy, during the first 24 weeks of treatment; US Food and Drug Administration-change in Hb from BL to the average Hb level during Weeks 28-52, regardless of rescue therapy. Secondary efficacy endpoints and safety were examined.

    A total of 594 patients were analyzed (roxadustat 391; placebo 203). Superiority of roxadustat versus placebo was demonstrated for both primary efficacy endpoints Hb response [odds ratio = 34.74, 95% confidence interval (CI) 20.48-58.93] and change in Hb from BL [roxadustat - placebo +1.692 (95% CI 1.52-1.86); both P < 0.001].     To evaluate the antimicrobial activity, mechanical properties, and fluoride release capacity of glass ionomer cement (GIC) used for cementing orthodontic bands and modified by ethanolic extract of red propolis (EERP) in different concentrations.

    Two orthodontic GICs containing EERP at 10%, 25%, and 50%, were used. The following assays were carried out cell viability tests against Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans, diametral tensile strength, compressive strength, shear bond strength, microhardness, and fluoride release capacity. The statistical analyses of the antimicrobial tests, fluoride release, diametral tensile strength, compressive strength, and microhardness were performed using two-way analysis of variance and Tukey test (P < .05). Shear bond strength data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey test (P < .05).

    At the concentrations of 25% and 50%, EERP was shown to be a promising antimicrobial agent incorporated into GICs against C albicans (P < .001) and S mutans (P < .001). Roxadustat is an orally active hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) anemia. This Phase 3, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study examined patients with Stages 3-5 CKD, not on dialysis (NCT01887600). Patients were randomized (21) to oral roxadustat or placebo three times weekly for 52-104 weeks. This study examined two primary efficacy endpoints European Union (European Medicines Agency)-hemoglobin (Hb) response, defined as Hb ≥11.0 g/dL that increased from baseline (BL) by ≥1.0 g/dL in patients with Hb >8.0 g/dL or ≥2.0 g/dL in patients with BL Hb ≤8.0 g/dL, without rescue therapy, during the first 24 weeks of treatment; US Food and Drug Administration-change in Hb from BL to the average Hb level during Weeks 28-52, regardless of rescue therapy. Secondary efficacy endpoints and safety were examined. A total of 594 patients were analyzed (roxadustat 391; placebo 203). Superiority of roxadustat versus placebo was demonstrated for both primary efficacy endpoints Hb response [odds ratio = 34.74, 95% confidence interval (CI) 20.48-58.93] and change in Hb from BL [roxadustat - placebo +1.692 (95% CI 1.52-1.86); both P < 0.001]. Superiority of roxadustat was demonstrated for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol change from BL, and time to first use of rescue medication (both P < 0.001). The incidences of treatment-emergent adverse events were comparable between groups (roxadustat 87.7%, placebo 86.7%). Roxadustat demonstrated superior efficacy versus placebo in terms of both Hb response rate and change in Hb from BL. The safety profiles of roxadustat and placebo were comparable. To evaluate the antimicrobial activity, mechanical properties, and fluoride release capacity of glass ionomer cement (GIC) used for cementing orthodontic bands and modified by ethanolic extract of red propolis (EERP) in different concentrations. Two orthodontic GICs containing EERP at 10%, 25%, and 50%, were used. The following assays were carried out cell viability tests against Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans, diametral tensile strength, compressive strength, shear bond strength, microhardness, and fluoride release capacity. The statistical analyses of the antimicrobial tests, fluoride release, diametral tensile strength, compressive strength, and microhardness were performed using two-way analysis of variance and Tukey test (P < .05). Shear bond strength data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey test (P < .05). At the concentrations of 25% and 50%, EERP was shown to be a promising antimicrobial agent incorporated into GICs against C albicans (P < .001) and S mutans (P < .001). The fluoride release capacity of the GICs was not affected, and the EERP concentration of 25% was the one that least affected the mechanical properties of the cements (P > .05). The GICs containing EERP at 25% showed a significant increase in their antimicrobial activity against S mutans and C albicans, while mechanical properties and fluoride release remained without significant changes. This cross-sectional analysis used a baseline data set (version 2.0.1) from children enrolled in the ongoing Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study between September 1, 2016, and October 15, 2018. Children aged 9 to 10 years without serious psychiatric or neurological comorbidities were recruited at 21 research sites in the US. Study recruitment was designed to approximate the racial and socioeconomic diversity of the US population. Data were analyzed from February 1 to March 31, 2020. The simulated experiment demonstrated the feasibility, accuracy, and efficiency of the proposed method, and the real data processing result verified the effectiveness of the proposed method for FMCW-SAL in practical applications.Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) has been considered a promising technology for nuclear safeguard inspection, especially for isotope content ratio determination, since it can be easily designed for portable, fast, and in situ measurement. However, it was a challenge to determine hydrogen isotopes in metal samples due to the unfavorable spectral interference, the poor calibration of the hydrogen content, and the small difference between the atomic emission intensity of hydrogen isotopes at around 656.28 nm. This paper presents the determination of hydrogen isotope contents ratio using LIBS under partially baseline-resolved conditions. The results show that by introducing a proper buffer atmosphere for the LIBS measurement, the resolution of the hydrogen and deuterium emissions could be improved, but still not enabled, by a baseline resolution with a moderate resolution spectrometer. However, with the method of integral intensity correction, the accurate quantitative measurement of hydrogen and deuterium contents in a metal matrix could be achieved. This work provided the possibilities for the further development of LIBS in hydrogen isotopes in in situ measurement for nuclear safeguards.Accuracy in vein detection is important for intravenous applications such as venipuncture and other medical procedures. In this work, the design and implementation of a light source with LEDs in the range of 750-860 nm are presented. To obtain the design, a numerical simulation was made using the near-field diffraction theory to obtain homogeneous illumination at 40 cm of the sample, with a radial arrangement of three concentric LED rings. With the developed light source, an experimental scheme for the acquisition of vein patterns was implemented. Using a basic algorithm for the identification of intravenous patterns, a prototype was obtained that we believe can be used in intravenous applications and other medical procedures.We study the propagation of the radially polarized Airy vortex beams (RPAiVBs) in a chiral medium analytically. The RPAiVBs split into the left circular polarization of the RPAiVBs (LCPRPAiVBs) and the right circular polarization of the RPAiVBs (RCPRPAiVBs). We mainly discuss the effects of the vortex and the chiral parameter on the propagation properties of the RPAiVBs, involving the intensity distributions and the radiation forces.   • This approach leads to improvement of the mechanical and physical properties of biocomposites for extensive applications. The present review article intends to provide a general overview of selecting the materials to manufacture hybrid biocomposite systems with improved strength properties, water, and burning resistance in recent years.Grafting is regarded as an integral component of sustainable vegetable production. It is important in the management of soil-borne diseases, and reports suggest that grafting with viable rootstocks can enhance crop growth and yield. This research was conducted using splices and cleft grafting techniques to investigate graft compatibility among varieties of high yielding eggplant scion (MCV1, MCV2, CCV1, CCV2, CCV3, NCV, and TCV) grafted onto wild rootstocks (MWR, BWR, and TWR) to study their morphophysiological and yield characteristics. High yielding scions grafted onto wild relative rootstocks were compared with two controls including self-grafted and non-grafted. All the scion had a high rate of germination (≥95%) and remarkable graft success (100%) was recorded in MCV1, MCV2, and TCV using the cleft techniques. Generally, the use of rootstocks resulted in higher total and marketable fruit yield compared to the non-grafted and self-grafted scion plants, respectively. In particular, MWR and TWR rootstock conferred the highest vigour to the scion, resulting in the highest values recorded for total and marketable fruit yield, number of fruits per plant and average fruit weight. A similar result was obtained in fruit length and diameter, where long and wide fruits were observed in scions grafted onto MWR and TWR rootstocks, respectively. Grafting of high yielding eggplant scion onto resistant MWR, BWR and TWR eggplant rootstock was found to be beneficial for eggplant cultivation. The remarkable compatibility and vigour of the rootstock with scion led to the improvement in total and marketable yield of the fruits. The applied BSFL shares were 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% of the diet, replacing up to 61.3% of FM and allowing us to reduce FO use by up to 95.4% in the case of 30% incorporation. The applied substitution affected feed quality, increasing the expansion rate, and decreasing feed density, sinking speed and water stability. However, body weight gain, specific growth rate, feed, and protein conversion ratios, were improved in groups fed BSFL. Moreover, feed acceptance was increased with treatments containing 10 to 30% BSFL. No effects on nutrients digestibility were observed. Specifically, yellow and nourishment, black and stimulant, yellow and vitamin supplement, green and dietary fiber supplement, and red and iron supplement are tightly associated regardless of the country. The strong tie between cosmetic and white is specific to the Taiwanese consumers. This suggests that careful color selection based on consumers' environmental and cultural backgrounds is important in communicating information regarding energy drink functions. The aim of the study was to describe recent studies in the field of phytotherapy, focusing on compounds isolated from chosen plants of Centaureinae and the possibilities of using them to treat antifungal infections, inhibit serotonin and ease symptoms of seborrhea dermatitis and hyperpigmentation. The results of these biological studies have shown that in the future, extracts from the above-mentioned plant material may be used as active substances in new safe and effective drugs.

The aim of the study was to describe recent studies in the field of phytotherapy, focusing on compounds isolated from chosen plants of Centaureinae and the possibilities of using them to treat antifungal infections, inhibit serotonin and ease symptoms of seborrhea dermatitis and hyperpigmentation. The results of these biological studies have shown that in the future, extracts from the above-mentioned plant material may be used as active substances in new safe and effective drugs.
