    The Actiwatch 2 (AW2) is a wrist-worn accelerometer typically used to measure sleep. Although it can measure physical activity, there is limited evidence supporting its validity. We assessed the validity and reliability of the AW2 to measure sedentary behavior and physical activity (light, moderate, vigorous intensities), and reported their respective count cut-points.

    Twenty-eight males and 22 females completed a task battery comprising three sedentary tasks and six randomized physical activity tasks at varying intensities, whilst wearing the AW2, a reference accelerometry device (Actigraph GT3X) and a cardiopulmonary gas analyzer on two separate occasions. Validity was assessed using correlations (AW2 counts versus GT3X counts and metabolic equivalent (MET) values), reliability using Bland-Altman analyses, and cut-points were determined using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) area under the curve (AUC) analyses.

    AW2 counts were positively correlated with GT3X counts (rho = 0.902, p < 0.001) and METs (rho = 0.900, p < 0.001). AW2-derived counts were comparable across independent assessment periods. Sedentary (AUC = 0.99, cut-point 256 cpm) and vigorous activity (AUC = 0.95, cut-point 720 cpm) were strongly characterized, and moderate activity (AUC = 0.66, cut-point 418 cpm) was weakly characterized.

In particular, the neon FIB has a relatively high sputtering rate with a lower probability of swelling and less re-deposition issues compared to a helium FIB. Here, both neon and helium FIB etchings are investigated for milling and repairing electron-beam lithography (EBL) defined hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resist patterns. Different dosages of neon FIB etching result in distinct etching profiles. Using the appropriate doses, arrays of uniform gap with aspect ratio more than 20 can be achieved on HSQ nanostructures. The neon FIB etching has a resolution of 20 nm on HSQ patterns. With XeF2 assistance, neon FIB etching can be enhanced for etching depth by a factor of ∼1.2. Whereas, helium FIB can also etch thick HSQ patterns, with **** lower etch rates.

  • The aim of the present study was to study longitudinal changes in bone mineral density (BMD), vitamin D, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels in females over a 10-year period after laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB).

    Twenty-three women, mean age 43.4±8.7years and mean body mass index (BMI) 44.6 ± 5.17kg/m
    at baseline, were included. BMD, BMI, S-calcium, S-25(OH)-vitamin D, and fP-PTH were measured preoperatively and 2, 5, and 10years postoperatively.

    Tenyears after surgery, BMD of the spine and femoral neck decreased by 20% and 25%, respectively. Changes in serum levels of vitamin D, PTH, and calcium over the same period were small.

    The major aim of the present study was to determine the effects of quercetin, a well-known flavonoid, on attenuating cisplatin (CDDP)-induced fat loss and the possible mechanisms.

    Tumor-bearing nude **** and tumor-free BALB/c **** were administrated with CDDP alone or in combination with quercetin by a diet containing 0.1% or 1% quercetin (LQ or HQ) or by intraperitoneal injection (IQ) to determine the effects of quercetin on the anticancer effect of CDDP or CDDP-induced fat loss. The effects of quercetin on fat accumulation in CDDP-exposed 3T3-L1 cells were also determined.

    We first showed that HQ and IQ significantly enhanced the anticancer effect of CDDP by upregulating p53- and p21-associated pathways, while tended to attenuate CDDP-induced fat loss in tumor-bearing nude ****. We explore its use in three typical tasks fiber bundle clustering, simplification, and selection across a population. The clustering algorithm groups fibers from single whole-brain datasets using a non-parametric k-means clustering algorithm, with performance compared with three alternative methods and across four datasets. The simplification algorithm removes redundant curves to improve interactive visualization, with performance gauged relative to random subsampling. The selection algorithm extracts bundles across a population using a one-class Gaussian classifier derived from an atlas prototype, with performance gauged by scan-rescan reliability and sensitivity to normal aging, as compared to manual mask-based selection. Our results demonstrate how the SCPT enables the novel application of existing vector-space ML algorithms to create effective and efficient tools for tractography processing. Wall motion and vector flow were extracted at high frame rates, which allowed for a visual appreciation of tissue movement and blood flow simultaneously. Several clinical markers were extracted, and visual inspections of the wall motion and flow were conducted. From all the potential markers, young healthy volunteers had smaller artery diameter (7.72 mm) compared with diseased patients (9.56 mm) ( p -value ≤ 0.001), 66% of diseased patients had backflow compared with less than 10% for the other patients ( p -value ≤ 0.05), a carotid with a pulse wave velocity extracted from the wall velocity greater than 7 m/s was always a diseased vessel, and the peak wall shear rate decreased as the risk increases. Based on both the pathological markers and the visual inspection of tissue motion and vector flow, we conclude that the clinical feasibility of this approach is demonstrated.     We conducted a 3-year prospective cohort study between 2009 and 2014, and it included 317 female high school athletes aged 15 years. At baseline, they underwent detailed examinations for various parameters that were documented during their first year of high school. The parameters assessed were height (cm), weight (kg), general joint laxity (points), navicular drop (mm), anterior laxity of the knee using the KT-1000 Knee Ligament Arthrometer (mm), angle of femoral anteversion (º), knee extensor/flexor muscle strength (Nm/kg), and hip abductor strength (Nm/kg). All ACL injuries that occurred during these 3 years were recorded.

    Of 317 players, 27 were excluded because they either had a history of ACL injury or could not complete the study. Thirty ACL tears occurred. Three of the ACL injuries were contact injuries, whereas the remaining 27 were noncontact injuries. Greater body weight (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.030-1.174; P = 0.004), a high hip abductor strength (95% CI, 1.462-4.827; P = 0.001), and small femoral anteversion (95% CI, 0.746-0.982; P = 0.027) were found to be risk factors in logistic regression analysis.

Variations in the characteristics of GHG flux and its response mechanism to environmental hydrothermal conditions and soil properties were analyzed. Higher soil carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions were observed in the growing season, whereas nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions were mainly observed in the non-growing season. Methane (CH4) absorption showed no obvious seasonal change. Linear regression analysis revealed that GHGs in the study area were positively correlated with total nitrogen and organic carbon content, and the number of microorganisms present in the soil. Hydrothermal factors were critical controllers of soil CO2 emissions, but they did not majorly influence CH4 and N2O fluxes. Repellent activity and contact toxicity of the obtained samples and myristicin against the adults of Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera Tenebrionidae), Lasioderma serricorne (Coleoptera Anobiidae), and Liposcelis bostrychophila (Psocoptera Liposcelididae) were compared. Nineteen components were identified in the SFE-CO2 extract. Twelve components were identified in the L. pteridophyllum rhizomes essential oil. SFE-CO2 extract exhibited higher contact toxicity against T. castaneum, L. serricorne, and L. bostrychophila (LD50 = 69.60 μg/adult, 14.58 μg/adult, and 1.69 μg/cm2, respectively) than that of L.

Three sandy sites of different desertification reversal stages in the Hobq Desert were selected. Variations in the characteristics of GHG flux and its response mechanism to environmental hydrothermal conditions and soil properties were analyzed. Higher soil carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions were observed in the growing season, whereas nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions were mainly observed in the non-growing season. Methane (CH4) absorption showed no obvious seasonal change. Linear regression analysis revealed that GHGs in the study area were positively correlated with total nitrogen and organic carbon content, and the number of microorganisms present in the soil. Hydrothermal factors were critical controllers of soil CO2 emissions, but they did not majorly influence CH4 and N2O fluxes. For STAI-State, 9 effect sizes were considered (41 patients) and the intervention group was significantly favored (WMD = -6.032; 95% CI = -8.900 to -3.164; p-value ˂ 0.001).   • Next, we summed all of the means of the CNS autoantibodies for each group into a new index score called the Neurodegeneration Index (NDI). The NDI was calculated for each tested group and showed veterans with GWI had statistically significantly higher NDI values than all three control groups. The present study confirmed the utility of the use of plasma autoantibodies for CNS proteins to distinguish among veterans with GWI and other healthy and symptomatic control groups.Plant pathogenic bacteria may influence vector behavior by inducing physiological changes in host plants, with implications for their spread. Here, we studied the effects of maize bushy stunt phytoplasma (MBSP) on the host selection behavior of the leafhopper vector, Dalbulus maidis (DeLong and Wolcott). Choice assays contrasting leaves of healthy (****-inoculated) vs. infected maize (Zea mays L.) were conducted during the asymptomatic and symptomatic phases of plant infection, with leafhopper males or females previously exposed to infected plants (bacteriliferous insects) or not. In each assay, 40 adults were released in choice arenas where only the leaves of two plants from each treatment were offered and visible, and the insects landed on the leaves were counted 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 23 h after release. During the asymptomatic phase of plant infection, an effect was observed only on bacteriliferous females, who preferred leaves of healthy plants 5 h after release or later. The symptomatic phase triggered a pull-push effect on non-bacteriliferous females, who were first attracted to symptomatic leaves but hours later moved to healthy leaves. Non-bacteriliferous males initially preferred symptomatic leaves (up to 5 h after release) and later became equally distributed between treatments. Bacteriliferous males and females initially did not discriminate between healthy and symptomatic leaves, but only the females tended to move to healthy leaves 9 h after release. Oviposition was drastically reduced on symptomatic leaves. The changes in vector behavior induced by MBSP favor its primary spread, since bacteriliferous females prefer healthy leaves at early (asymptomatic) stages of the crop. Among them is the determination of the optimal stage of pollen induction for androgenesis. In this work, we developed Microscan, a deep learning-based system for the detection and recognition of the stages of pollen development. In a first experiment, the algorithm was developed adapting the RetinaNet predictive model using microspores of different eggplant accessions as samples. A mean average precision of 86.30% was obtained. In a second experiment, the anther range to be cultivated in vitro was determined in three eggplant genotypes by applying the Microscan system. Subsequently, they were cultivated following two different androgenesis protocols (Cb and E6). The response was only observed in the anther size range predicted by Microscan, obtaining the best results with the E6 protocol. The plants obtained were characterized by flow cytometry and with the Single Primer Enrichment Technology high-throughput genotyping platform, obtaining a high rate of confirmed haploid and double haploid plants. In each assay, 40 adults were released in choice arenas where only the leaves of two plants from each treatment were offered and visible, and the insects landed on the leaves were counted 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 23 h after release. During the asymptomatic phase of plant infection, an effect was observed only on bacteriliferous females, who preferred leaves of healthy plants 5 h after release or later.     Older lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) adults are an underserved and understudied population that experience specific health disparities. The intersection of aging and chronic medical disease with a higher risk for substance use and mental illness may place older LGB adults at risk for co-occurring conditions and resulting comorbidity. We benchmark these methods using 100 manually curated datasets from 16S and whole metagenome shotgun sequencing.

    The multivariate and compositional methods developed specifically for microbiome analysis did not outperform univariate methods developed for differential expression analysis of RNA-seq data. We recommend a careful exploratory data analysis prior to application of any inferential model and we present a framework to help scientists make an informed choice of analysis methods in a dataset-specific manner.

In this study, mental illness symptoms persisted for more than 5 years among half of disaster survivors, but the community-wide prevalence of depression remained stable, suggesting that the community itself was resilient.Recently, some studies have suggested that the abnormal expression of β-catenin in bladder cancer (BC) is associated with the progression and survival of BC, but there are still some controversies. Hence, we elaborated on the relationship between β-catenin expression and BC through a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. As of March 2020, Embase, PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Science Direct/Elsevier, Medline and CNKI were used for systematic literature retrieval to investigate the correlation between β-catenin expression and BC. Meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager and Stata software. Fourteen studies were included, including 865 BC tissues and 106 controls. Combined ORs were identified with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) in a random- or fixed-effects model. We illustrated that there was a significant correlation between β-catenin and BC, that there was abnormally high expression of β-catenin in BC tissues compared with normal bladder tissues (P less then 0.05), and that the combined OR was 14.
