The development of news media and social media has radically changed the way the public consumes information. This study explores the structure of online news media networks in three countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, to investigate the phenomenon of fragmentation in the news consumption pattern on social media. Based on the results of the three network indicators used in this study, it can be concluded that the structure of online news media networks in Indonesia and Malaysia shows a tendency of fragmentation. In contrast, this study did not find sufficient evidence that the phenomenon of fragmentation was occurring in the Singapore media network. In-depth analysis on each formed media cluster shows that online news media in Indonesia and Malaysia tend to group based on similarity in market segments, regions or political alignments.
The efficacy of mesnchymal stem cells (****) to treat the necrotic tissue of salivary glands (SGs) has yet investigated.
This study was conducted to investigate the potential capacity of **** to restore the function and regenerate the necrotic submandiular gland in the rat animal model.
Twenty-one Sprague-Dawley rats were provided from a breeding colony and randomly divided into three groups including the positive control or induced SG atrophy without treatment, the treatment group or induced SG atrophy with **** isolated transplantation and the negative control group consists of healthy rats. The atrophic and necrotic submandiular gland was induced using intraoral duct ligation of the main duct of submandiular gland for one month. The isolated stem cells were confirmed using flow cytometry for CD90 and CD 105. The isolated **** were cultured and injected to submandiular gland and the potential efficacy of **** to treat the atrophic submandibular glands was evaluated using histopathology on two weeks pootic SGs in a rat model. **** may be potential candidates for cell-based therapies targeting hypofunction of SG induced by a range of diseases or because of surgery and radiotherapy of head and neck cancers.

With increasing awareness about the health benefits of natural antioxidants, efforts are needed to develop methods for producing plant-based antioxidants as sources of nutraceuticals or functional food ingredients. This study aimed at establishing an optimum temperature for hydrothermal extraction of phenolic compounds from the leaves and stems of ROD. Spray-dried extracts obtained from hydrothermal extraction at four different temperatures, as well as their raw materials and spent residue were analyzed for moisture content and water activity. The samples were extracted with organic solvent and their total phenolic content, phenolic composition and antioxidant activity were also determined. Moisture content was below 10% and the water activity was below 0.6 inclusive, which are recommended for storing dry plant products. Glucogallic acid, ellagic acid, rutin, quercetin 3-O-malonylglucoside and quercetin were the phenolic compounds identified in all the samples. Rutin was the predominant compound. As expected, all the spray-dried extracts had higher phenolic content and antioxidant activity than the raw materials and spent materials. The researchers spent a lot of time on purposeful roaming in the city to explore the vibrant city views, and enough time was spent interviewing citizens and research samples in the city of Sanandaj. Regarding urban views, the terms in the literature became more complete in new categories included Spot View, Focal View, Continuous View, Tunnel View, Planar View, Blocked View, and Layered View. Regarding the reasons for desirability or undesirability of views, five main categories identified included Natural Elements, Visual Harmony, Spatial Proportions, Identity, and Visual Disturbance.A series of trimethyltin(IV) carboxylates (1-7), having general formula [(CH3)3SnOOCR], where R = 3-CF3C6H4- (1), 3,4-(OCH2CH3)2 C6H3- (2), 3-FC6H4- (3), 4-ClC6H5- (4), 2,4-(OCH3)2C6H3- (5), 4-NO2C6H4- (6), 5-CH3C4H2N2- (7) have been synthesized and are characterized by using analytical techniques like, FT-IR, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR spectroscopy in addition to elemental analyses. To validate the structural motif, one of the complex (2) was also analyzed by single crystal XRD technique. The single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the molecular species exist in one dimensional polymeric chain, wherein five coordinated tin is attached to two oxygens of the carboxyl and three carbon atoms of CH3 groups, whereas the bond angles for C-Sn-C (117.20-121.65°), C-Sn-O (87.87-98.60°) and O-Sn-O (173.75°) lie in the predictable range of distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry. All the synthesized complexes were also subjected to preliminary screening for various biocidal applications such as antimicrobial, anti-diabetic, protein kinase inhibition and brine shrimp lethality test to check their efficacy.

An asymmetric domino reaction combining vinylogous Michael reaction, hydration of aldehyde, and oxy-Michael reaction proceeds with α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and α-acyl α,β-unsaturated cyclic ketones in the presence of diphenylprolinol silyl ether to afford tetrahydrochromane derivatives with excellent enantioselectivity. After the domino reaction, addition of Wittig reagent and acid in the same reaction vessel promoted a second domino reaction incorporating retro oxy-Michael reaction, isomerization, and Wittig reaction to afford chiral functionalized cyclic 1,3-diene derivatives with excellent enantioselectivity. Overall, six reaction steps proceed in a one-pot procedure.A unique chiral amine organocatalyst with a bispidine structure was found to be efficient for the diastereo- and enantioselective Mannich reaction of isatin ketimines with ketones. A series of 3-substituted 3-amino-2-oxindoles bearing vicinal tertiary and quaternary chiral stereogenic centers were obtained in excellent yields with excellent dr and ee values. The gram-scale synthesis and transformation of the product showed the practicability of this methodology. In addition, a possible transition state model was proposed to explain the origin of the stereoselectivity.We present a new approach to femtosecond direct laser writing lithography to pattern nanocavities in ferromagnetic thin films. By progressively lowering the laser fluence, the formation of closed spallation cavities below the ablation threshold is achieved. Systematic studies by the electron and optical interferometric microscopies, supported by molecular dynamics simulations, enabled us to gain an understanding of the thermo-mechanical spallation mechanism at the solid-molten interface. We achieved the fabrication of periodic arrangements of closed spallation nanocavities. Due to their topology, closed magnetic nanocavities can support unique couplings of multiple excitations (magnetic, optical, acoustic, spintronic). To avoid nAb-mediated inactivation, engineered AAV vectors with modified protein capsids, materials tethered to the capsid surface, or fully encapsulated in a second, larger carrier have been explored. Many of these engineered AAVs have added benefits, including avoided immune response, overcoming the genome size limit, targeted and stimuli-responsive delivery, and multimodal therapy of two or more therapeutic modalities in one platform.

Unintentional injuries among adolescents is a major public health problem the world over. A great majority of the annual deaths among adolescents is due to unintentional injuries; it is also the leading cause of death among adolescents in the world. The aim of this study was to estimate the incidence of injuries and their associated factors among school going adolescents aged 13-17 years using data from the most recent Global School-Based Health Survey (GSHS) conducted in Sri Lanka.
A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire, among 3262 adolescents attending government schools. The sample was selected through a two-staged cluster sampling technique. In the first stage, 40 schools were selected using probabilities proportional to school enrollment size, from all schools in the country that have classes in grades 8-12. Then, from the selected schools, classes were selected using systematic equal probability sampling with a random start. The weighted prevalence was calculaven due consideration when designing school-based interventions to prevent adolescent injuries.
This study demonstrated that the prevalence of serious unintentional injuries among school going adolescents is a major public health problem in Sri Lanka. This timely and comprehensive survey would help policy makers and researchers identify the unmet needs related to adolescent injuries. Furthermore, evidence generated form the study should be given due consideration when designing school-based interventions to prevent adolescent injuries.
There is a paucity of reports clarifying the implication of knee osteoarthritis (OA) on spinal sagittal alignment of patients undergone surgery for lumbar spine. This study aimed to analyze how osteoarthritic knee affects radiographic and clinical results of degenerative lumbar disease patients undergone lumbar fusion.
We retrospectively reviewed the medical records and radiographs of 74 consecutive degenerative lumbar disease patients who underwent posterior instrumentation and fusion surgery between May 2016 and June 2017 and were followed up for minimum 3 years postoperatively. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to the severity of knee OA by Kellgren-Lawrence grading (KLG) scale (group I, KLG 1 or 2 [n = 39]; group II, KLG 3 or 4 [n = 35]). Patient demographic data, comorbidities, spinal sagittal parameters and clinical scores were extracted and compared at preoperative, postoperative 1 month and the ultimate follow-up between the groups. Heat resistance is a common characteristic of harpins, a class of proteins found in Gram-negative bacteria, which may be related to the stability of coiled-coil (CC) structure. A great majority of the annual deaths among adolescents is due to unintentional injuries; it is also the leading cause of death among adolescents in the world. The aim of this study was to estimate the incidence of injuries and their associated factors among school going adolescents aged 13-17 years using data from the most recent Global School-Based Health Survey (GSHS) conducted in Sri Lanka. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire, among 3262 adolescents attending government schools. The sample was selected through a two-staged cluster sampling technique. In the first stage, 40 schools were selected using probabilities proportional to school enrollment size, from all schools in the country that have classes in grades 8-12. Then, from the selected schools, classes were selected using systematic equal probability sampling with a random start. The weighted prevalence was calculaven due consideration when designing school-based interventions to prevent adolescent injuries. This study demonstrated that the prevalence of serious unintentional injuries among school going adolescents is a major public health problem in Sri Lanka. This timely and comprehensive survey would help policy makers and researchers identify the unmet needs related to adolescent injuries. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records and radiographs of 74 consecutive degenerative lumbar disease patients who underwent posterior instrumentation and fusion surgery between May 2016 and June 2017 and were followed up for minimum 3 years postoperatively. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to the severity of knee OA by Kellgren-Lawrence grading (KLG) scale (group I, KLG 1 or 2 [n = 39]; group II, KLG 3 or 4 [n = 35]). The anatomical characteristics of the cervix (length of the cervix, number of cervical rings and the appearance of the external os) were assessed post-mortem. There was a type of the cycle by ewe breed interaction represented by no differences in mucus production between ewe breeds at the natural cycle for both the follicular and luteal phases of the cycle. The expression of Cathelicidin, PMAP23, and PMAP37 in the endometrium changed during the estrous cycle and pregnancy in a stage-specific manner. The mRNA expression of Cathelicidin, PMAP23, and PMAP37 was also detected in conceptus and chorioallantoic tissues during pregnancy. Cathelicidin protein was mainly localized to luminal epithelial cells and some immune cells in blood vessels and to chorionic epithelial cells of chorioallantoic membranes during mid-to late pregnancy. The expression of Cathelicidin was induced by calcitriol but increasing doses of estradiol-17β and progesterone did not affect the expression of Cathelicidin, PMAP23, or PMAP37 in endometrial tissues. We conducted a long-term follow-up of a cohort of children with newly diagnosed unprovoked seizures to assess treatment with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), neuroleptics, antidepressants and medication for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with special attention to the impact of comorbidities on the use of such medication.
Our study cohort comprised 769 children (28 days-18 years), living in Stockholm Sweden, with a first unprovoked seizure identified between 2001 and 2006. Information on neurodevelopmental comorbidities and Cerebral Palsy (CP) at seizure onset was collected from medical records. Information on treatment with AEDs, neuroleptics, antidepressants and ADHD medication was retrieved by linkage to the Swedish National Prescription Registry between 2005 and 2014. The association between comorbidities and drug treatments was assessed by odds ratios (OR) with 95 % confidence intervals (CI), adjusted for age and sex.

While previous scholarship has documented barriers to Supervised Consumption Services (SCS) access, little is known about how Non-SCS-users perceive available, sanctioned SCS, and how such perceptions may hinder their SCS use. The objectives of this study were to examine 1) barriers to accessing SCS for SCS-users and Non-SCS-users; and 2) the extent to which these barriers are consistent between groups.
We conducted semi-structured interviews with 75 PWUD in two cities in Western Canada, Edmonton and Calgary, who may or may not have accessed available SCS. Participants were recruited on the streets near SCS via traditional fieldwork and snowball sampling. We employed a generalized prompt guide and asked a range of questions about how PWUD perceived and/or experienced SCS in the area. All interviews were digitally recorded, transcribed, thematically coded, and analysed.
Despite PWUD's generally positive perceptions of SCS, we identified several operational barriers to SCS access, including wait times and time limits, restrictions on injection assistance, and client bans from clinics.

Plasmodium parasites possess a translocon that exports parasite proteins into the infected erythrocyte. Although the translocon components are also expressed during the mosquito and liver stage of infection, their function remains unexplored. Here, using a combination of genetic and chemical assays, we show that the translocon component Exported Protein 2 (EXP2) is critical for invasion of hepatocytes. EXP2 is a pore-forming protein that is secreted from the sporozoite upon contact with the host cell milieu. EXP2-deficient sporozoites are impaired in invasion, which can be rescued by the exogenous administration of recombinant EXP2 and alpha-hemolysin (an S. aureus pore-forming protein), as well as by acid sphingomyelinase. The latter, together with the negative impact of chemical and genetic inhibition of acid sphingomyelinase on invasion, reveals that EXP2 pore-forming activity induces hepatocyte membrane repair, which plays a key role in parasite invasion. To facilitate future analyses of these actors, we introduce ClimActor, the largest harmonized global dataset of more than 10,000 city and regional governments participating in networks like the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, C40 Cities for Climate Leadership, ICLEI Local Leaders for Sustainability, among others. We include key contextual information on each actor's population, geographic location, and administrative jurisdiction to facilitate disambiguation of potential overlaps in actions or emissions. Here, we show decision-making by a bistable gene network in artificial cells with constant protein turnover. Reducing the number of gene copies from 105 to about 10 per cell revealed a transition from deterministic and slow decision-making to a fuzzy and rapid regime dominated by small-number fluctuations. Gene regulation was observed at lower DNA and protein concentrations than necessary in equilibrium, suggesting rate enhancement by co-expressional localization. The high-copy regime was characterized by a sharp transition and hysteresis, whereas the low-copy limit showed strong fluctuations, state switching, and cellular individuality across the decision-making point. NMR studies show that these compounds occupy the tryptophan binding pocket of UHM domains. Co-crystal structures of the inhibitors with the PUF60 UHM domain and medicinal chemistry provide structure-activity-relationships and reveal functional groups important for binding. These inhibitors inhibit early spliceosome assembly on pre-mRNA substrates in vitro.

Although the translocon components are also expressed during the mosquito and liver stage of infection, their function remains unexplored. Here, using a combination of genetic and chemical assays, we show that the translocon component Exported Protein 2 (EXP2) is critical for invasion of hepatocytes. EXP2 is a pore-forming protein that is secreted from the sporozoite upon contact with the host cell milieu. EXP2-deficient sporozoites are impaired in invasion, which can be rescued by the exogenous administration of recombinant EXP2 and alpha-hemolysin (an S. aureus pore-forming protein), as well as by acid sphingomyelinase. The latter, together with the negative impact of chemical and genetic inhibition of acid sphingomyelinase on invasion, reveals that EXP2 pore-forming activity induces hepatocyte membrane repair, which plays a key role in parasite invasion. To facilitate future analyses of these actors, we introduce ClimActor, the largest harmonized global dataset of more than 10,000 city and regional governments participating in networks like the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, C40 Cities for Climate Leadership, ICLEI Local Leaders for Sustainability, among others. We include key contextual information on each actor's population, geographic location, and administrative jurisdiction to facilitate disambiguation of potential overlaps in actions or emissions. Decisions based on few molecules may be inaccurate but are cheap and fast. Realizing decision-making with a few molecules in artificial cells has remained a challenge. Here, we show decision-making by a bistable gene network in artificial cells with constant protein turnover. Reducing the number of gene copies from 105 to about 10 per cell revealed a transition from deterministic and slow decision-making to a fuzzy and rapid regime dominated by small-number fluctuations. Gene regulation was observed at lower DNA and protein concentrations than necessary in equilibrium, suggesting rate enhancement by co-expressional localization. The high-copy regime was characterized by a sharp transition and hysteresis, whereas the low-copy limit showed strong fluctuations, state switching, and cellular individuality across the decision-making point. Cytomegalovirus (CMV)-based vaccines show promising effects against chronic infections in nonhuman primates. Therefore, we examined the potential of hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccines based on mouse CMV (MCMV) vectors expressing the small HBsAg. Immunological consequences of vaccine virus attenuation were addressed by either replacing the dispensable gene m157 ("MCMV-HBsȍ) or the gene M27 ("ΔM27-HBs"), the latter encodes a potent IFN antagonist targeting the transcription factor STAT2. M27 was chosen, since human CMV encodes an analogous gene product, which also induced proteasomal STAT2 degradation by exploiting Cullin RING ubiquitin ligases. Vaccinated **** were challenged with HBV through hydrodynamic injection. MCMV-HBs and ΔM27-HBs vaccination achieved accelerated HBV clearance in serum and liver as well as robust HBV-specific CD8+ T-cell responses. A secondary analysis was conducted of the WOMAN trial, which evaluated the use of tranexamic acid for PPH and collected infant outcome data to assess drug safety. The analysis was restricted to singletons (n=18 942). Overall and country-level rates of stillbirth and PDNM were calculated. Multilevel logistic regression models examined the association of stillbirth and PDNM with selected risks, and the association of mother's QoL at discharge after stillbirth or PDNM.
For women with PPH, the rate of stillbirths was 104.42 per 1000 births (n=1978) and the rate of PDNM was 15.56 per 1000 live births (n=264). Cesarean delivery, increasing blood loss, maternal complications, and maternal death were strongly associated with these adverse outcomes. Women with stillbirth and PDNM were significantly more likely to report poorer QoL.

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed great strain on blood resources. In an effort to extend platelet (PLT) shelf life and minimize waste, our institution transitioned room temperature to cold-stored PLTs for administration to bleeding patients.
We describe the administrative and technical processes involved in transitioning room temperature PLTs to cold storage in April 2020. Additionally, we describe the clinical utilization of cold-stored PLTs in the first month of this practice change, with a focus on changes in PLT counts after transfusion, hemostasis, and safety outcomes.
A total of 61 cold-stored PLT units were transfused to 40 bleeding patients, with a median (interquartile range [IQR]) of 1 (1-2) units per patient. The median age was 68 (59-73) years; 58% male. Median pretransfusion and posttransfusion PLTs counts were 88 (67-109) and 115 (93-145). A total of 95% of transfusions were administered in the operating room 57% cardiac surgery, 20% vascular surgery, 8% general surgery, and 5% solid organ transplantation. https://www.selleckchem.com/MEK.html Hemostasis was deemed to be adequate in all cases after transfusion. There were no transfusion reactions. One patient (3%) experienced a fever and infection within 5 days of transfusion, which was unrelated to transfusion. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is common in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Defic it intake of ω-3 polyuns aturated fatty ac ids (PUFAs) may be as sociated with developm ent of PTSD.
This study randomized mechanically ventilated patients suffering from multiple trauma (n = 150) into 2 groups a study and a control group that received enteral feeding with or without fish oil. Fifty-one patients were interviewed 6 months after discharge from the ICU. Psychometric parameters of PTSD were assessed by questionnaires. The fatty acid composition of erythrocyte membranes was performed by homogenization of the cells in hexane-isopropanol.
No differences were found in baseline characteristics between the groups. Erythrocyte membrane composition showed significantly higher concentrations of ω-3 fatty acids in the study group. Anxiety and depression symptoms were correlated with an increase in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) on days 4 and 8 for depression and EPA on day 4 and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on day 8 for anxiety. Total ω-3 content was positively correlated with anxiety and depression as well. An inverse correlation was found between DHA and EPA in the treatment group and with the total ω-3 and DHA in the control group for the Brief Illness Perceptions Questionnaire.

World herbaria with 387.5M specimens (Thiers 2019) are being rapidly digitised. At least 79.9M plant specimens (20.6%) are already databased throughout the globe in the standard form of GBIF-mediated data. The contribution of smaller herbaria has been steadily growing over the last few years due to cost reduction, usage of platforms and solutions developed by the leaders. A web-resource the Moscow Digital Herbarium (Seregin 2020b) was launched by the Lomonosov Moscow State University in October, 2016 for publication of specimens imaged and databased in the Moscow University Herbarium (MW). These data are now fully available in the Moscow Digital Herbarium and GBIF. Complete georeferencing of the specimens from the City of Moscow was a key task in 2020. As of May 2020, 50,324 specimens, including 49,732 specimens from Russia, have been georeferenced (78.6%) and 39,448 specimens have fully-captured label transcriptions (61.6%). Based on these data, we give a detailed overview of the collections including spatial, temporal and taxonomic description of the dataset.
An important functional trait of organisms is their trophic mode. It determines their position within food webs, as well as their function within an ecosystem. For the better part of the 20
century, aquatic protist communities were thought to consist mainly of producers (phytoplankton) and consumers (protozooplankton). Phytoplankton cover their energy requirements through photosynthesis (phototrophy), while protozooplankton graze on prey and organic particles (phagotrophy). However, over the past decades, it was shown that another trophic group (mixoplankton) comprise a notable part of aquatic protist communities. Mixoplankton employ a third trophic mode by combining phototrophy and phagotrophy (mixotrophy). Due to the historical dichotomy, it is not straightforward to gain adequate and correct information on the trophic mode of aquatic protists. Long hours of literature research or expert knowledge are needed to correctly assign trophic modes. Additionally, aquatic protists also have a long history of und links aquatic protist taxa, with a focus on marine taxa, to their AphiaID and their trophic mode. The bulk of the data used for this dataset stems from (routine) monitoring stations in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The data were augmented and checked against state-of-the-art knowledge on mixoplankton taxa by consulting literature and experts. Thus, this dataset provides a first attempt to make the trophic mode of aquatic protists easily accessible in both a human- and machine-readable format.
Despite Sweden's strong entomological tradition, large portions of its insect fauna remain poorly known. As part of the Swedish Taxonomy Initiative, launched in 2002 to document all multi-cellular species occurring in the country, the first taxonomically-broad inventory of the country's insect fauna was initiated, the Swedish Malaise Trap Project (SMTP). In total, 73 Malaise traps were deployed at 55 localities representing a wide range of habitats across the country. Most traps were run continuously from 2003 to 2006 or for a substantial part of that time period. The total catch is estimated to contain 20 million insects, distributed over 1,919 samples (Karlsson et al. 2020). The samples have been sorted into more than 300 taxonomic units, which are made available for expert identification. Thus far, more than 100 taxonomists have been involved in identifying the sorted material, recording the presence of 4,000 species. One third of these had not been recorded from Sweden before and 700 have tentatively be are mostly sorted to the order level. In total, the 79 datasets currently available comprise around 165,000 specimens, that is, about 1% of the total catch. However, the data are now accumulating rapidly and will be published continuously. The SMTP dataset is unique in that it contains a large proportion of data on previously poorly-known taxa in the Diptera and Hymenoptera.The present work is a contribution towards accelerating the digitisation process of natural history collections, usually a slow process. A two-stage process was developed at the herbarium of the University of Coimbra (i) a new workflow was established to automatically create records in the herbarium master database with minimum information, while capturing digital images; (ii) these records are then used to populate a web-based crowdsourcing platform where citizens are involved in the transcription of specimen labels from the digital images. This approach simplifies and accelerates databasing, reduces specimen manipulation and promotes the involvement of citizens in the scientific goals of the herbarium. The novel features of this process are (i) the validation method of the crowdsourcing contribution that ensures quality control, enabling the data to integrate the master database directly and (ii) the field-by-field integration in the master database enables immediate corrections to any record in the catalogue.Multiple disciplines can help to discover cryptic species and resolve taxonomic confusions. The Asian horned toad genus Megophryssensu lato as a diverse group was proposed to contain dozens of cryptic species. Based on molecular phylogenetics, morphology, osteology, and bioacoustics data, the species profiles of Megophrys toads in the eastern corner of Himalayas in Medog County, Tibet Autonomous Region, China was investigated. The results indicated that this small area harbored at least four Megophrys species, i.e., M. medogensis, M. pachyproctus, Megophrys zhouisp. nov., and Megophrys yeaesp. nov., the latter two being described in this study. Additionally, the mitochondrial DNA trees nested the low-middle-elevation and high-elevation groups of M. medogensis into a monophyletic group, being in discordance with the paraphyletic relationship between them revealed in the nuclear DNA trees. The findings highlighted the underestimated biodiversity in Himalayas, and further indicated that the Megophrys toads here have been probably experienced complicated evolutionary history, for example, introgression between clades or incomplete lineage sorting and niche divergences in microhabitats.

Thus, this dataset provides a first attempt to make the trophic mode of aquatic protists easily accessible in both a human- and machine-readable format. Despite Sweden's strong entomological tradition, large portions of its insect fauna remain poorly known. As part of the Swedish Taxonomy Initiative, launched in 2002 to document all multi-cellular species occurring in the country, the first taxonomically-broad inventory of the country's insect fauna was initiated, the Swedish Malaise Trap Project (SMTP). In total, 73 Malaise traps were deployed at 55 localities representing a wide range of habitats across the country. Most traps were run continuously from 2003 to 2006 or for a substantial part of that time period. The total catch is estimated to contain 20 million insects, distributed over 1,919 samples (Karlsson et al. 2020). The samples have been sorted into more than 300 taxonomic units, which are made available for expert identification. Thus far, more than 100 taxonomists have been involved in identifying the sorted material, recording the presence of 4,000 species. One third of these had not been recorded from Sweden before and 700 have tentatively be are mostly sorted to the order level. In total, the 79 datasets currently available comprise around 165,000 specimens, that is, about 1% of the total catch. However, the data are now accumulating rapidly and will be published continuously. The SMTP dataset is unique in that it contains a large proportion of data on previously poorly-known taxa in the Diptera and Hymenoptera.The present work is a contribution towards accelerating the digitisation process of natural history collections, usually a slow process. A two-stage process was developed at the herbarium of the University of Coimbra (i) a new workflow was established to automatically create records in the herbarium master database with minimum information, while capturing digital images; (ii) these records are then used to populate a web-based crowdsourcing platform where citizens are involved in the transcription of specimen labels from the digital images. This approach simplifies and accelerates databasing, reduces specimen manipulation and promotes the involvement of citizens in the scientific goals of the herbarium. The Asian horned toad genus Megophryssensu lato as a diverse group was proposed to contain dozens of cryptic species. Based on molecular phylogenetics, morphology, osteology, and bioacoustics data, the species profiles of Megophrys toads in the eastern corner of Himalayas in Medog County, Tibet Autonomous Region, China was investigated. The results indicated that this small area harbored at least four Megophrys species, i.e., M. medogensis, M. pachyproctus, Megophrys zhouisp. nov., and Megophrys yeaesp. nov., the latter two being described in this study. Additionally, the mitochondrial DNA trees nested the low-middle-elevation and high-elevation groups of M. medogensis into a monophyletic group, being in discordance with the paraphyletic relationship between them revealed in the nuclear DNA trees. We obtained ∼47 million 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene sequences using consistent clean subsampling and experimental procedures, which enabled accurate and unbiased comparison of all samples. Statistical analysis reveals significant correlations between taxonomic composition, sedimentary organic carbon concentration, and presence or absence of dissolved oxygen. Extrapolation with two fitted species-area relationship models indicates taxonomic richness in marine sediment to be 7.85 × 103 to 6.10 × 105 and 3.28 × 104 to 2.46 × 106 amplicon sequence variants for Archaea and Bacteria, respectively. Using historical records from the region, we assess the extent to which natural and anthropogenic factors have altered biogeochemical cycling in the lake over the last 2,000 y. We show that rates of nutrient supply from deep waters to the photic zone have dramatically increased since the mid-19th century in response to changing wind dynamics, reduced ice cover, and their associated impact on limnological processes in the lake. With stressors linked to untreated sewage and catchment development also now impacting the near-shore region of Lake Baikal, the resilience of the lake's highly endemic ecosystem to ongoing and future disturbance is increasingly uncertain.The flux partitioning in delta networks controls how deltas build land and generate stratigraphy. We find that coupling between upstream and downstream bifurcations can lead to chaos; despite its simplicity, our model generates surprisingly complex aperiodic yet bounded dynamics. Our model exhibits sensitive dependence on initial conditions, the hallmark signature of chaos, implying long-term unpredictability of delta networks. However, estimates of the predictability horizon suggest substantial room for improvement in delta-network modeling before fundamental limits on predictability are encountered. We also observe periodic windows, implying that a change in forcing (e.g., due to climate change) could cause a delta to switch from predictable to unpredictable or vice versa. We test our model by using it to generate stratigraphy; converting the temporal Lyapunov exponent to vertical distance using the mean sedimentation rate, we observe qualitatively realistic patterns such as upwards fining and scale-dependent compensation statistics, consistent with ancient and experimental systems. We suggest that chaotic behavior may be common in geomorphic systems and that it implies fundamental bounds on their predictability. To this end, one of the primary tools in fluorescence microscopy is that of computational deconvolution. Wide-field fluorescence images are often corrupted by haze due to out-of-focus light, i.e., to cross-talk between different object planes as represented in the 3D image. Using prior understanding of the image formation mechanism, it is possible to suppress the cross-talk and reassign the unfocused light to its proper source post facto. Electron tomography based on tilted projections also exhibits a cross-talk between distant planes due to the discrete angular sampling and limited tilt range. By use of a suitably synthesized 3D point spread function, we show here that deconvolution leads to similar improvements in volume data reconstructed from cryoscanning transmission electron tomography (CSTET), namely a dramatic in-plane noise reduction and improved representation of features in the axial dimension. Contrast enhancement is demonstrated first with colloidal gold particles and then in representative cryotomograms of intact cells. Deconvolution of CSTET data collected from the periphery of an intact nucleus revealed partially condensed, extended structures in interphase chromatin.

We previously reported a novel method of mesenteric excision for esophageal cancer surgery. The esophagus, trachea, recurrent laryngeal nerves (RLNs), and surrounding lymph nodes (LNs) are contained in a common mesenterium, which we termed the "mesotracheoesophagus". In addition, near-infrared (NIR) image-guided lymphatic mapping has recently been used. The purpose of this study was to confirm the feasibility of NIR image-guided lymphatic mapping for upper mediastinal LN dissection, and to confirm the oncological feasibility of our surgical approach.
Fifteen patients with resectable esophageal cancer underwent submucosal injection of indocyanine green (ICG), and underwent robot-assisted esophagectomy. The frequency of ICG positivity in the LN basins along the RLNs, and metastatic frequency were assessed. Regarding the oncological feasibility of our thoracoscopic esophagectomy, the recurrence patterns and survival of 72 consecutive patients who underwent curative resection from 2011 to 2016 were analyzed.
ICG-positive LN basins along the right and left RLNs were found in 12 (80% of 15) patients (3 patients positive for metastatic LNs) and 11 (73% of 15) patients (2 positive for metastatic LNs and 1 false-negative), respectively. All ICG-positive LN basins were found within the mesotracheoesophagus. The sensitivity was 5/6 (83%), and the negative predictive value was 6/7 (86%). Among the 72 patients, with a median follow-up period of 1644days, only 3 (4.2%) patients developed locoregional recurrence.
The NIR image-guided lymphatic mapping was feasible. Our results with no ICG-positive basins outside of the '"mesotracheoesophagus", supported our surgical approach. It might become standard, with acceptable locoregional control.

The rats were submitted to middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and were treated with sodium butyrate or Myricitrin (15 and 30 mg/kg) for 28 days. The spatial memory was studied by Morris water maze (MWM). After 4 weeks, the rats were euthanized and hippocampus region was utilized for neurochemical and biochemical changes. The extent of histone acetylation was studied by ELISA. Protein levels were analyzed by Western blot analysis. The mRNA levels were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In silico bioinformatics docking studies were done for target confirmation of Myricitrin. The treatment of Myricitrin showed improved memory in MWM compared to rats treated with vehicle, and the effects of Myricitrin were similar to sodium butyrate-treated rats. At a dose of 30 mg/kg Myricitrin, the histone deacetylase content was decreased, the expression levels of BDNF were increased, the levels of acetylated H3 and H4 along with Syn-I in the hippocampus region were over-expressed compared to control vehicle-treated rats. However, at low dose, i.e., 15 mg/kg Myricitrin failed to show alterations in biochemical as well as neurochemical markers. Docking studies suggested the BDNF and Sun-I as potential target proteins of Myricitrin. The two agricultural pests consist of one species of thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande 1895)) and one species of whiteflies (Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood, 1956), and the shared predator is a predatory mite (Amblyseius swirskii Athias-Herriot, 1962). The predatory mite is the biocontrol agent employed in order to achieve the biological control. The proposed model successfully reproduces this density mediated indirect interactions between pests when their carrying capacities are increased. Moreover, the pests' final population levels may depend on their initial densities and those of their predator. With these results, the proposed model may have the potential to assess whether these indirect pest interactions disrupt or enhance biological control. Additionally, it can also be used as an ancillary tool to theoretically assess the effects of pest biocontrol strategies in the referred experimental setup.
