  • The Rędziński Bridge in Wrocław is the biggest Polish concrete cable-stayed bridge. It is equipped with a large structural health monitoring (SHM) system which has been collecting the measured data since the bridge opening in the year 2011. This paper presents a comparison between the measured data and the finite element method (FEM) calculations, while taking into account 7 years of data collection and analyses. The first part of this paper concerns the SHM application. In the next part, which contains comparisons between forces in cables and temperature changes throughout the structure, the measured data are presented. The third part includes SHM-based calculations and simulations with a complex FEM model to check the measured data and to estimate future measurements. The study group comprised 41 copper smelter and refinery workers (average age 51.27) with occupational exposure to arsenic, cadmium and lead. The control group consisted of 36 healthy volunteers (35 men and 1 woman, aged 27-66, average age 51.08). Neurological examination, brain imaging, and visual and brainstem auditory evoked potentials were performed, and the relationship between blood Cd, Pb concentration (Cd-B, Pb-B), blood zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP), and urine As concentration (As-U) were assessed. In the workers, exceedances of allowable biological concentrations were observed, with the urinary concentration of arsenic being 5.2%, the cadmium and lead in blood being 1.3%, while the case of ZnPP was 2.6%. The mean P100, relative P100, and N145 visual evoked potential (VEP) latencies were significantly longer in exposed workers than in the controls. The mean wave III and V brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) latency and the mean wave III-V and I-V interpeak latencies were longer, and the I and V amplitude was lower in the workers than the controls. In summary, occupational exposure to As, Cd, and Pb is associated with prolonged latency and reduced evoked potential amplitude, but As-U, Pb-B, Cd-B, and ZnPP concentrations are not linearly related to potential components. Herein, immune development of combination-fed (CF), sow-reared (SR) and formula-fed (FF) piglets, and the effect of prebiotics was tested. Piglets (n = 47) were randomized to SR, FF, CF, FF+prebiotic (FP), and CF+prebiotic (CP). FP and CP received formula with galactooligosaccharides and inulin (4 g/L in a 41 ratio). CF and CP piglets were sow-reared for until d5 and then rotated between a sow and formula every 12 h. On day 21, piglets received an intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide 2 h prior to necropsy. Immune cells from blood, mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN), and spleen were phenotyped. Classical (nitric oxide synthase) and alternative (arginase activity) activation pathways were measured in isolated macrophages. Serum IL-6 and TNF-α were measured by ELISA.     Parenteral nutrition (PN) is a complex medium in which added insulin can become unstable. The aim of this study is, therefore, to evaluate the stability of insulin in PN and to identify influencing factors.

    A total of 20 IU/L of regular insulin was added to PN in either glass or Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) containers. A 24 h stability study was performed via an electrochemiluminescence immunoassay in different media A ternary PN admixture, separate compartments of the PN bag and a binary admixture. This study was repeated in the absence of zinc, with the addition of serum albumin or tween and with pH adjustment (3.6 or 6.3). Insulin concentration at t time was expressed as a percentage of the initial insulin concentration. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was applied to determine the factors that influence insulin stability.

    In all PN admixtures, the insulin concentration ratio decreased, stabilising at a 60% and then plateauing after 6 h. At pH 3.6, the ratio was above 90%, while at pH 6.3 it decreased, except in the amino acid solution. ANCOVA (r

Accompanying neuroprotection, immunohistochemical analysis indicated that IL-13Nab inhibited pKr-2-induced expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase and myeloperoxidase within activated microglia/macrophages and neutrophils, possibly resulting in attenuation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and oxidative damage of DNA and protein.

  • Here, we report a thirteen years' survivor of initial primary lung cancer, who successfully diagnosed with second primary lung cancer(SPLC). It was arising from the pneumonectomy cavity of a non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC). Few cases of SPLC associated with the post-pneumonectomy cavity have been reported in the literature. The histologic results of SPLC was metastatic pleomorphic carcinoma. It is a rare type of lung cancer; which incidence has been reported to range from 0.1% to 0.4% among all lung cancers. Based on regular follow-up with chest computed tomography(CT) and an understanding of post-pneumonectomy changes, the second primary pleomorphic carcinoma was correctly diagnosed and appropriately treated.Pyopneumothorax is characterized by a pleural collection of pus and air requiring emergent thoracic drainage. A 65-year-old diabetic woman presented with a two-week history of fatigue and dyspnea but without fever. Chest computed tomography showed extensive pleural effusion and air in the left pleural cavity, which caused a mediastinal shift with peripheral circulatory failure. There was no evidence of a pulmonary fistula. Anaerobic bacteria were found in the pus smear after microscopy. After 17 days of chest drainage and 18 days of antibiotic treatment, the patient recovered without any complications. The etiology of pyopneumothorax in this case was slowly progressive pyothorax due to gas-producing anaerobic bacteria. In conclusion, we should pay careful attention to serious infectious diseases, including pyothorax, in diabetic patients due to the high prevalence and subclinical symptoms.
    Three-dimensional diagnosis has shown that orthodontic therapy could potentially move the roots of the teeth outside the original bone structure. The purpose of these case studies was to test the possibility of obtaining correct three-dimensional tooth positioning with clear aligners, thereby modifying the periodontal structure accordingly, at the same time.

    Regenerative Corticotomy (RC) was performed with clear aligners on ten adult patients (40 anterior teeth) with skeletal Class III malocclusion, for dental decompensation, prior to the orthognathic surgery. The CBCT examinations were performed before treatment (T0) and 1 year after orthognathic surgery (T1). The vertical and the horizontal hard tissue changes, the width of keratinized gingiva, the incisors proclination (IMPA) and the percentage of inclination compared to the planning were analyzed.

    The distance between the Cemento-Enamel Junction (CEJ) and the Bone Marginal Level (BML) decreased in average from 5.5​±​3.2​mm to 1.39​±​0.53​mm. The horizontal changes were at the 3​mm level 1.42​±​0.5​mm, at the 5​mm level 1.98​±​0.66​mm and at the 7​mm level 2.70​±​0.87​mm. The width of Keratinized gingiva changes were on average 1.42​±​0.36​at T0 and 4.16​±​2.25​at T1. All the changes were statistically significant with p​<​0,05. The mean proclination based on IMPA values was +9.16 +-1.19°. The mean difference of the incisor's proclination compared to the digitally planned was -1 +-0.6° (89.87 +- 6.46%).

Among these effects are disruptions in mental health and psychosocial well-being. Traditionally, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions have been implemented in response and recovery phases. Yet, the field of disaster management has demonstrated a shift towards disaster risk reduction (DRR). The degree to which the MHPSS field has followed this trend has been limited by several factors, including a lack of consensus-based guidance for MHPSS and DRR integration. However, examples from the field exist and demonstrate the feasibility of taking proactive approaches to supporting mental health and well-being and building better before emergencies occur. The following article outlines two case examples, one project in Sierra Leone and another in India, integrating MHPSS and DRR approaches and principles. Lessons learned from these cases and specific challenges in each context are highlighted and discussed.Fusarium species are common plant and animal pathogens. For humans, there are two dominant species complexes, F. solani species complex (FSSC) and F. oxysporum species complex (FOSC), which both infect immunocompromised individuals. However, there are few reports related to elasmobranchs infected by Fusarium species. In this study, we report a case of a rough-tail stingray from an ocean park infected by FSSC diagnosed using histopathology and microscopic observation, with morphological characteristics and molecular techniques used to identify the pathogen. Histopathology showed fungal hyphae invading stingray tissues, while micro/macroconidia were found under the microscope. We identified this pathogen as FSSC 12 through phylogenetic analysis using internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and elongation factor 1-alpha (EF1-α) sequences. Furthermore, we report that application of voriconazole (orally) and terbinafine (topically) constituted an effective therapy, curing the stingray.Multimorbidity is an emerging public health priority. This study aims to assess the role of lifestyle and socioeconomic status in the prevalence of multimorbidity and chronic diseases by using two language groups that are part of the same genetic subgroup but differ by daily habits. We conducted a cross-sectional survey in 2016 with randomly selected population sample with 4173 responders (52.3%) aged 20-69 years in Western Finland. We included 3864 Finnish participants with Swedish (28.1%) or Finnish (71.9%) as a native language. We used a questionnaire to assess participants' chronic diseases and lifestyle. We determined multimorbidity as a disease count ≥ 2. Finnish speakers were more likely to have a diagnosis of COPD, heart failure, diabetes, reflux disease, chronic kidney failure, and painful conditions than Swedish speakers. The prevalence of multimorbidity was higher for Finnish speakers in the age group of 60-69 years (41.0% vs. 32.0%, p = 0.018) than Swedish speakers. A higher proportion of Finnish speakers smoked, were obese, inactive, and had lower socioeconomic status compared to Swedish speakers.

Further, it strongly triggers the cytotoxic effects against MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells with an effective IC50 value.   • We sought to clarify the psychological profile of experimentally induced nostalgia, compared to two other modes of thinking about one's past-reflection and brooding-also experimentally induced. We tested both British and Chinese participants. Our main hypothesis was that nostalgia's profile is more positive in terms of six psychological benefits and seven autobiographical memory functions. The results were consistent with the hypothesis. In regard to psychological benefits, nostalgia (vs. reflection and brooding) increased positive affect, self-esteem, self-continuity, social connectedness, and meaning in life. Furthermore, nostalgia increased optimism relative to brooding (but not reflection). In regard to autobiographical memory functions, nostalgia (vs. reflection and brooding) led to higher boredom reduction, conversation, intimacy maintenance, and death preparation, as well as lower bitterness revival. Nostalgia also elevated teach/inform relative to brooding (but not reflection). The findings were similar for British and Chinese participants.We review concepts involved in describing the chemodynamic features of nanoparticles and apply the framework to gain physicochemical insights into interactions between SARS-CoV-2 virions and airborne particulate matter (PM). Our analysis is highly pertinent given that the World Health Organisation acknowledges that SARS-CoV-2 may be transmitted by respiratory droplets, and the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention recognises that airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 can occur. In our theoretical treatment, the virion is assimilated to a core-shell nanoparticle, and contributions of various interaction energies to the virion-PM association (electrostatic, hydrophobic, London-van der Waals, etc.) are generically included. We review the limited available literature on the physicochemical features of the SARS-CoV-2 virion and identify knowledge gaps. Despite the lack of quantitative data, our conceptual framework qualitatively predicts that virion-PM entities are largely able to maintain equilibrium on the timescale of their diffusion towards the host cell surface. Comparison of the relevant mass transport coefficients reveals that virion biointernalization demand by alveolar host cells may be greater than the diffusive supply. Under such conditions both the free and PM-sorbed virions may contribute to the transmitted dose. This result points to the potential for PM to serve as a shuttle for delivery of virions to host cell targets. Thus, our critical review reveals that the chemodynamics of virion-PM interactions may play a crucial role in the transmission of COVID-19, and provides a sound basis for explaining reported correlations between episodes of air pollution and outbreaks of COVID-19.Age-related and noise-induced hearing loss disorders are among the most common pathologies affecting Americans across their lifespans. Urine was tested three times for each case, with microalbuminuria defined as a urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) of 30-299mg/gCr, at least twice on three measurements. Youden's Index was used as an index of the cut-off value (CO) according to the ROC curve.

    A single uPCR was useful for differentiating normoalbuminuria and micro- and macroalbuminuria in patients with non-diabetic lifestyle-related diseases. Regarding the GFR categories, the CO of the second uPCR was 0.09g/gCr (AUC 0.89, sensitivity 0.76, specificity 0.89) in G1-4 (n = 197) and 0.07g/gCr (AUC 0.92, sensitivity 0.85, specificity 0.88) in G1-3a (n = 125). A single uPCR was useful for differentiating normoalbuminuria and micro- and macroalbuminuria in patients with non-diabetic lifestyle-related diseases. Methods The tool utilized criteria developed by clinicians to self-assess IR to deliver four classes of ATMP over a series of time points. Each assessment was independently analyzed and validated by independent expert groups. Results & conclusion The collated results indicated an overall trend toward IR for all classes of ATMP. The study highlighted areas where IR is evidenced, areas where work is ongoing and areas where further work is required to achieve IR.   • Human amniotic epithelial cells (hAECs) exhibit a strong capability to restore ovarian function in chemotherapy-induced premature ovarian failure (POF). However, the therapeutic efficacy of hAECs is usually affected by the limited number and proliferative ability of grafted hAECs in target organs. The transplantation of stem cells encapsulated in sodium alginate-bioglass (SA-BG) composite hydrogel has recently been shown to be an effective strategy for tissue regeneration. The current study aims to investigate the therapeutic potential of hAECs or hAEC-derived conditioned medium (CM) encapsulated in SA-BG in **** with chemotherapy-induced POF.

    A central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an ophthalmic emergency due to its strong association with cerebrovascular and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. A timely diagnosis is necessary but difficult in the setting of dense asteroid hyalosis, as typical fundoscopic findings can be obscured. We present a case where multimodal imaging in an eye with anobscured fundus could lead to timely diagnosis and management of CRAO in a patient with acute vision loss.

    A 94-year-old Caucasian woman with a history of exudative macular degeneration presented to the retina clinic with acute vision loss in one eye over the course of an afternoon. The patient had dense asteroid hyalosis, and a direct retinal exam was not possible. Multimodal imaging suggested a CRAO diagnosis. The patient received digital ocular massage directly prior to undergoing fluorescein angiography (FANG), which confirmed the diagnosis. We applied these models to real exome-wide data of 11,127 sequenced individuals (54% cases) and replicated suggestive associations in 21,631 genotype-imputed individuals (51% cases).

    Motivational Interviewing (MI) has a robust evidence base in facilitating behavior change for several health conditions. MI focuses on the individual and assumes patient autonomy. Cross-cultural adaptation can face several challenges in settings where individualism and autonomy may not be as prominent. Sociocultural factors such as gender, class, caste hinder individual decision-making. Key informant perspectives are an essential aspect of cross-cultural adaptation of new interventions. Here, we share our experience of translating and adapting MI concepts to the local language and culture in rural Nepal, where families and communities play a central role in influencing a person's behaviors.

    We developed, translated, field-tested, and adapted a Nepali MI training module with key informants to generate insights on adapting MI for the first time in this cultural setting. Key informants were five Nepali nurses who supervise community health workers. We used structured observation notes to describe challenges ion thus faces challenges in cultures where such assumptions may not hold. The current study aimed to compare the predictive value of serum progesterone on day of HCG administration / metaphase II oocyte (P/MII) ratio on IVF/ ICSI outcome to serum progesterone (P) level alone and the ratio of serum progesterone/estradiol level (P/E2) ratio in prediction of pregnancy rates after ART.

    Two hundred patients admitted to the IVF/ICSI program at Minia IVF center in Egypt in the period from October 2016 to May 2018 were included in this study. Serum Progesterone (P) and Estradiol (E2) levels were estimated on the day of HCG administration. The ratio between serum P and the number of MII oocytes (P/MII ratio) was calculated and the predictive values of the three parameters (P, P/E2 ratio and P/MII ratio) in prediction of cycle outcomes were measured.
